01:00Hey guys, welcome back.
01:11Once again, this is your host, Anthony Gamer, and today's video, I'm going to be doing
01:16yet another game review.
01:19Now, given that there's been the new Halo infant coming out, and they're now celebrating their
01:2620th anniversary of the franchise, I figured I'd go back to the original, the OG that started
01:33it all, Halo Combat Evolved from 2001.
01:36Now, this game goes way back, and I can't tell you, there isn't really much I can't say
01:44honestly speaking that hasn't been said before about this game, right, because everything
01:49that has been said about this game is pretty much 100% on point, right, from the story to
01:55the gameplay to the graphics to, you know, everything, like, it was pretty much the birth
01:59of, not just a franchise, but something different, you know, in the 2000s.
02:05Okay, so let me just give you the rundown quickly, okay, just to let you know how epic this shit
02:11is.
02:12You start off with this stuff going on in the ship, and then you're introduced slowly to
02:20the main guy going to play us, he comes out as a cryogenic tube, whatever, that freezing
02:25thing, and then, you know, you start fighting these guys on the ship, as you guys prepare
02:31to send the ship and land into the Halo itself, the big wing, right, this is like, pretty much
02:38the brief introduction, they didn't give you everything, they just gave you enough to know
02:43what you need to do in this moment to get to the next level.
02:48And in the next level, you know, you crash on the Halo, everyone split up on whatever,
02:53and there's safety boats, and you have to go meet up with the survivors, and then go plan
03:00something ahead on what to do next.
03:02And that is where the game officially starts.
03:05And I tell you if the introduction alone for this was something on the next level, you
03:11know, it was, it's a lot of fun actually.
03:14And it still is a lot of fun today, you know.
03:17After you go from there, you know, you go on to do all the stuff where you basically travel
03:22around the whole wing, you know, to, like, these certain dark areas, or to the beaches.
03:29Yeah, they have beaches, and you know, you get to go all up in, like, these snowy areas
03:34and fight all the different current characters, which is very crazy.
03:40you see, bunch, right, because the current is basically a group of different races together.
03:45If you watch end of the Halo series, right, the animated series that they have, they sort
03:51of, like, explain more about their past, you know, like, the elites, or the small ones,
03:57or the big giant ones, you know, there's a lot to go in there.
04:03And there's a lot to go in the story, in the direction that it goes in.
04:08Like, you can tell this by, when you start the game, you can tell there's a lot here that's
04:14been going on, right?
04:15This isn't just the introduction of a story, you're actually in the middle of an ongoing
04:20story.
04:21And the game, it doesn't, like, give you everything right away, which is, like, I find probably
04:28the best way to go about doing this, right?
04:31It slowly gives you a bit of information, you know, as you're progressing through the introduction,
04:36and you go into, you know, the actual beginning of the story, where you go on these different
04:43adventures to, like, do this objective, or capture that objective, in a sense.
04:49And you slowly get to, you know, find out more and more about the Halo's past, and all
04:55these other things that have been going on, and this whole war between the humans and the
05:00Covenant, and what's really, you know, what, and where's your place in all of this, right,
05:05in a sense.
05:06And it's very well written, very well paced, and it's very well engaging, too.
05:15Like, there's not any moment in this game where there was much downtime, you know, from
05:20start to the finish in a story, and, you know, in a gameplay, it's, it was engaging.
05:27And that's something that I have on the point of when it comes to, like, the games that you
05:30see nowadays, like, that's a very, very hard thing to pull off.
05:37Almost near impossible to pull, to make a game engaging like that short the entire duration,
05:42you know.
05:43And I feel like you should, the game has paid enough credit for doing that, you know, because
05:47it's a game from 2001, and it's still just as playable now as it was back then, in my opinion.
05:54Okay, um, I don't really want to spoil the storyline for this game, because I still believe
06:01that, even after 20 years, you know, people still reserve their innocence to experience
06:07the game for the first time.
06:08And that's just my opinion on it, right.
06:10But, um, quickly, I'm just going to go into the, some of the goodies stuff here, like, the
06:15gameplay graphics and whatnot.
06:17Uh, this is probably where it might get a little bit iffy for you, because remember
06:22this game is a 20-year-old game, so you gotta understand that.
06:26In terms of graphics, of course, it's going to update it.
06:28But, for me playing it, it actually holds up pretty well, actually.
06:35You know, it doesn't feel like a 20-year-old game.
06:38It feels more like a 10-11-year-old game.
06:41And, man, yeah, this is the original Halo PC port from 2003 that I'm playing, reviewing
06:49here.
06:50Not the one from the 10th Anniversary Remastered or the Master Chief Collection Halo one.
06:58You know, this is the old, old one.
07:01Alright?
07:02I can tell you, it still looks good, actually.
07:05You know, the graphics, for the most part, it actually holds up the gameplay.
07:09It holds up quite a bit.
07:11You know, this is quite one of the strongest aspects from the technical side of the game.
07:16Because a lot of games, older games from the 2000s, they usually have their gameplay mechanics
07:24feel dated.
07:26You know, like, in the case of Max Payne, right, that game, the gameplay does feel dated,
07:33even though it is still good.
07:35Here, this game is actually old, arguably older than Max Payne.
07:40And, the gameplay is dated, right, the mechanics and a little bit movement stuff.
07:45But it doesn't feel like it's 20 years dated, you know.
07:50It still feels like something that you could actually playable and pass off the date.
07:55I know it because I've been playing it all now still, right.
08:00The voice acting is spectacular, right.
08:03This is probably the best voice acting you can experience on any game.
08:08Like, not just back then, but also even by today's standards.
08:13The voice acting actually holds up.
08:16The soundtrack, it's pitch perfect.
08:20It's about as perfect as you can get for a video game.
08:24Like, if you were to compare the soundtrack to other video game soundtracks,
08:28this is definitely top five.
08:31Even top three, in a sense.
08:34It's about as good as you can get for, you know, capturing the atmosphere and setting the tone for the whole,
08:39not just the whole game, but the franchise in itself.
08:42You know, it's such an iconic theme, right.
08:46And, like I said, it's about as perfect as you can get for a video game soundtrack.
08:51Like, it doesn't get better than this.
08:53You know, like, this is like top five, even top three, even, video game soundtracks of all time.
08:59Right.
09:00And, it definitely has earned all the praise it gets, you know, from fans and gamers alike.
09:06Okay, so overall, you know, if I had to sum this up, man.
09:12And, like I said, at the beginning of the video, there's not really much else I can say about the game.
09:17You know, that hasn't been said before, right.
09:20All I can say is that it really lives up to the name that people held it up to.
09:27You know, that standard of gaming that is set back in the day.
09:32It still holds up to that, even by today's standards.
09:36It is that game.
09:39Like, that game that ignited that thing in the FPS genre.
09:44And, it's about as perfect as you can get for an FPS game, actually.
09:49I don't see anything surpassing this anytime soon.
09:55Not even Halo Infinite, in a sense.
09:57And, I haven't even gotten to play that yet, you know.
09:59But, anyways, let me just sum this up.
10:01Okay.
10:02You already don't know.
10:04This game is 5 out of 5.
10:08Right.
10:09It's perfect.
10:10Right.
10:11It doesn't matter what generation, whichever you are in.
10:15Pop this game on and everyone is going to enjoy it.
10:20Right.
10:21The campaign.
10:22The campaign.
10:23Even to the multiplayer as well.
10:24Which is something I don't really review in these FPS, ah, in these game reviews.
10:29The multiplayer here is actually pretty good.
10:32You know.
10:33Just like some technical issues.
10:36But, overall still good.
10:38I have no complaints on that.
10:40Right.
10:41So, yeah guys.
10:42I am Halo Combat Evolved.
10:43This has been my review of the game.
10:46Perfect game.
10:47Definitely lives up to the standard that people have given it.
10:51I know I could have gone into a lot of detail about the story and what.
10:56But, I didn't really want to like do that and spoil it for you.
10:59I feel like you should play it and experience the story for yourself.
11:03You know.
11:04All I can just tell you that is very well good.
11:07Okay.
11:08So, that pretty much sums up my review guys.
