00:00What's this Scooby Doo? We're coming after you. You're gonna solve that mystery. I see you Scooby Doo. Betrayal is back to you. What's this Scooby Doo?
00:12Hey guys, welcome back to the Parishes. Once again, this is your host in the game of today's video. This is probably the worst one I've seen so far. Okay, if you guys haven't paid attention, the new Scooby Doo series is coming to HBO Max next year and it's called Velma.
00:37You know, it's focused on the nerdy one in the group and it's completely atrocious. Just looking at it, I couldn't even tell you exactly what the hell is going on here.
00:54All I know is that watching this clip that they posted on the channel, you have like a black Velma basically complaining about something with HBO Max and I don't know man.
01:13It just looks atrocious for a lot of reasons. First off, the obvious element in the room is that they really swapped Velma, which is like an Asian mixed character to straight up black character and they made it look horrible.
01:29Second of all is the animation style. Okay, if you guys have been following the Scooby Doo franchise, you've known that the Scooby Doo franchise has been like one of the longest running shows going back to the 60s, right?
01:43And they have a pretty distinct animation style for the show. Even over the years, as they try to modernize it and, you know, update it and make it look worse.
01:55And they still largely kept in with their animation style. But here, looking at this, it just looks atrocious. That's the only way that comes to my mind looking at this.
02:08And the whole dialogue in the scene, it's basically one big self-insert. I mean, yes, you know, they have her talking about the streaming show to make it like a fourth wall breaking sort of thing.
02:25Which is getting annoying these days. All these shows and TV shows, they want to do this sort of self-referential sort of humor and fourth wall stuff.
02:39It's getting pretty annoying. But looking at this, this is basically dead on arrival.
02:49So, just by looking at it, like, you don't even need to explain or say nothing about it.
02:56If you're anyone that has been familiar with the Scooby Doo franchise and you know the Scooby Doo characters, you know, in the mystery gang.
03:04And you see this, you already don't know it's a wrap. It's going to bomb on release.
03:09Uh, rightfully so.
03:12I haven't even gotten into the other way of swapping with Palma and Shaggy or the fact that there's no Scooby Doo in sight in this new series.
03:23Think about that for a second.
03:25No Scooby Doo in this series.
03:28Like, how many times are you really going to have to be going through this whole shenanigans of taking already established characters and just re-skinning them to basically appeal to a demographic.
03:43Only for it to just basically blow up in the face.
03:46It's, it's, it's, it's basically become a cheap marketing gimmick at this point.
03:51Like, it's not really any substance or any value to what they're doing here.
03:56It's just like a cheap marketing gimmick.
03:58And, and glad that more and more people are actually coming around waking up to this eventual reality.
04:04You know, this, getting a lot of dislikes on their, um, HBO Max channel with the trailer.
04:10And, like I said rightfully so, it's about time we move past this bullshit shenanigans with re-skinning characters to appeal to other demographics instead of making new characters to appeal to said demographics.
04:30Or better yet, using already existing characters.
04:33There's a lot of black characters out there that, these studios, they don't even, like, touch.
04:42They just have them there in a vault collecting dust.
04:46Like that, that is what people actually want.
04:50Like, to give them new characters, not re-skinned characters.
04:55It's cheap and it's pathetic.
04:59And it looks atrocious too.
05:01Like, the fact that there's actually people that support this, in spite of how it looks.
05:09It just goes to show you that degeneracy is really the new currency moving forward, guys.
05:16But anyway, overall, that keynote sums up my thoughts on the new Velma show, guys.
