11 December - National afternoon forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hi there. A slow-moving weather front will arrive from the west during the day. That
00:06means different things depending on where you are. It means ahead at the front there's
00:10plenty of fine weather and that will last for much of the day for many parts of the
00:15UK. But for Northern Ireland and Western Scotland, the slow-moving front means a slow-moving
00:20band of rain and staying damp essentially through the afternoon across many parts of
00:25Northern Ireland. The rain is a ragged feature and so it's not going to be raining everywhere
00:30all the time. And for Western Scotland, it's mostly light rain, some moderate or heavy bursts
00:37here and there, particularly western hills and coast. But otherwise, it's just a damp afternoon
00:42for the northwest. Ahead of that, cloud thickening, still some brightness though through parts
00:46of Wales, parts of the Midlands, eastern England and a mild day to come, 12 or 13 Celsius in
00:52places. We'll keep those clear spells for much of the evening in the east but eventually
00:57cloudier skies arrive. The slow-moving front moves into western parts of England. Wales
01:03passes through Scotland and the skies do clear across Western Scotland and Northern Ireland.
01:08Temperatures fall away, close to freezing in a few spots. Some mist patches for Northern
01:13Ireland first thing. But that's where the brightest skies will be, away from any mist patches, Northern
01:18Ireland, Western and Central Scotland. Then the cloud clears Wales and the southwest by
01:23the time the sun rises. So decent sunny spells developing but you can see how slow that frontal
01:29progress is through the Midlands, parts of central, southern and southeast England. So a damp day
01:36to come in places. Although it's fizzling away, the rain turning more showery and it's not going
01:42to be raining very much at all by the time we get to the end of the afternoon. 12 Celsius
01:47in the southeast. I think more like the high single figures elsewhere. We've got this fresher
01:52air moving through. That does mean that we're going to see showers developing, some quite heavy
01:57downpours for the west of Scotland and then those showers turn to longer spells of rain this weekend.
02:03So very wet weather returns, especially for Western Scotland and North West England.
