00:01We've seen a significant change in the weather during the last day or two and overnight even
00:06eastern parts of the UK saw some much needed wet weather.
00:11Now this is the radar and satellite imagery from Monday morning and you can see at first
00:15the rain was focused across the north and some western parts.
00:19Initially showery outbreaks of rain but the rain turned heavier and more persistent through
00:24the afternoon on Monday eventually reaching the east and southeast overnight.
00:28That rain was with us first thing Tuesday but it is now peeling away into the North Sea
00:34and what follows are more scattered showers but outbreaks of rain blossoming across northern
00:40Scotland will lead to some persistent wet weather here, rumbles and thunder as well, largely
00:45avoiding the outer Hebrides and Shetland through the afternoon but otherwise it's a wet afternoon
00:50for northern Scotland in particular.
00:53Elsewhere across the UK the rain turning to showers and those showers will be lively where
00:57they occur, especially across the east and south of the UK with some hail and thunder
01:02expected as well as gusty winds.
01:05Now they will move through on a stiff breeze in the south and that's going to make it feel
01:09on the cool side.
01:10Despite some brightness in between showers, temperatures are a degree or two down compared
01:14with Monday afternoon we are talking about 19 to 22 celsius at their highest.
01:21Now through the Tuesday evening those showers will continue for a while in the east but eventually
01:26they will become fewer and further between.
01:28Towards the west and the north we keep some showers going but they won't be quite as lively
01:32or as heavy as the daytime showers.
01:35Clear spells breaking through but a keen breeze so unremarkable temperatures overnight certainly
01:41more comfortable compared with many nights as we ended spring temperatures reaching 14 celsius in places.
01:50Nevertheless we do start off Wednesday with this developing area of low pressure.
01:55Now May, the end of May saw a weak and north shifted jet stream.
01:59We've now got a stronger and south shifted jet stream helping to form these areas of low pressure
02:04which will result in a wet start to Northern Ireland, Western England and Wales.
02:09The rain moving east and northeast during the morning and into the afternoon so that by the
02:15afternoon it's much of Scotland, the east of England as well where we see the wettest weather.
02:20Followed very swiftly by frequent showers and longer spells of rain into Northern Ireland,
02:26the north of England, the Midlands seeing the livelier showers again, some rumbles of thunder,
02:31gusty winds moving these showers through as well, a breezier afternoon to come but some brightness
02:37emerging as well. The north of Scotland largely avoiding the wettest weather until later in the day
02:43and it's going to feel cool because of the increase in the breeze and because we're going to see
02:49that jet stream dipping even further south. Now this area of low pressure swirling around close
02:56to the west of Scotland will keep outbreaks of rain lingering through Northern Scotland and then
03:01back into Northern Ireland as we close out Wednesday. Frequent showers continuing further south across
03:07the UK even after the sun goes down. Clear spells in between the downpours but they will be frequent
03:13and they'll be increasingly lively going into Thursday because as you can see this dip in the jet stream,
03:19this upper trough comes south across the whole of the UK. A very unsettled day to come on Thursday,
03:26frequent showers, gusty winds, unseasonably windy across the south and the west of the country in
03:32particular and that's going to make it feel even cooler on Thursday and into Friday. So cool and
