00:00Hi there, welcome to the latest update from the Met Office. Another showery day for most
00:05of us today. More showers in the north and east compared with Tuesday. Because we've
00:10got this upper trough in the jet stream, an upper level low pressure which causes a vacuum
00:16high above and causes the air to rise, generating a lot of showers. And those showers will be
00:22most frequent and most lively across the north and east of the UK. Some hail and thunder
00:26associated with more of the livelier downpours. Gusty winds as well, but not quite as breezy
00:31as Tuesday. And the showers easing off a little towards the west and southwest as we head into
00:36the afternoon. Temperatures typically mid to high teens, not feeling especially warm for
00:42the time of year. And then we go into the evening with more showers across the north and the
00:46east, for a time at least before those showers gradually, after dark, die away. Clear spells
00:52then breaking out across the east only for an hour or two before the cloud builds from
00:55the west. And the next system brings some more persistent wet weather into Western Britain
01:00and Northern Ireland by dawn. Heaviest rain at this stage across Northern Ireland and temperatures
01:06rising through the night, especially across western areas. Double figures at this stage.
01:11Single figures for some of the more sheltered and clearest spots in the east. Now we begin
01:16Thursday with some very wet weather around, especially across western parts. That rain soon pushes
01:21across most of the rest of the UK. It's heaviest across western hills, but for many it actually
01:28eases into the afternoon. It stays damp and it stays breezy, but the rain not quite as widely
01:35persistent and heavy with some gaps breaking out, especially towards the southwest. And
01:39actually Northern Scotland, still a few showers here, but largely avoiding the more persistent damp
01:44weather with some brightness coming through. Now it's a little more humid on Thursday because
01:49of the southwesterly airflow, but it's not going to feel particularly warm with the rain and
01:54the gusty wind that is coming up from the southwest. It's going to be breeziest in the south.
01:59Heading into the evening, the outbreaks of rain become increasingly patchy, but they will
02:05be persistent across parts of Scotland and Northern England for a time. A greater chance of drier
02:10and clearer weather breaking through in the south. And it's going to be a mild night with
02:15the cloud and the breeze. But by Friday, the jet stream is starting to nudge further north.
02:22Here goes that upper trough into the continent and a ridge of high pressure begins to influence
02:26things a little more towards the south. Still some weather fronts around, still low pressure
02:31close by, so still some rain and showers especially towards the north on Friday. But into the weekend,
02:37that trend with the jet stream pushing a bit further north and ridging coming up from the south,
02:42that continues. So expect a drier and warmer weekend, but no heatwave. Latest thoughts will
02:50always be found on our YouTube channel. Bye-bye.
