12 December - National afternoon forecast presented by Annie Shuttleworth
Transcript
00:00Good afternoon.
00:01A rare spell of sunshine to come for the rest of the day, particularly across western areas.
00:07But over this weekend we are expecting some quite heavy rainfall and you can see that
00:11waiting out in the Atlantic, this mass of cloud, we've got a warm conveyor belt arriving
00:16from the north and west through Saturday.
00:19But before then, a spell of drier and brighter weather will move in from the west, bringing
00:24sunny skies to many western areas by this afternoon.
00:27Ahead of that though, a cold front will bring a spell of wet weather across many eastern
00:32areas.
00:33So it will remain pretty murky through much of this afternoon across many eastern areas
00:36of England with a spell of fairly light rain throughout this afternoon and into this evening.
00:41Further west though, as I said, quite dry, sunny and with light winds it's not going to feel
00:46too bad.
00:47It is turning a little bit fresher once this band of rain and cloud clears through but I
00:50think throughout this afternoon it will still feel fairly pleasant.
00:54It's a way from the far north and west where the winds will pick up through this evening
00:57and we'll continue to see some spells of potentially quite heavy showers across parts of the Highlands
01:03and the Western Isles.
01:04Elsewhere though, a dry night to come, still a few showers just across the far south west
01:09of Wales but for many of us clear skies.
01:12And that will allow temperatures to fall away, much lower than they have done recently.
01:15So we are expecting a frost actually, particularly across southern counties of England as well as
01:20some central areas of Wales, particularly low-lying areas where we'll see that frost.
01:24But with the strength of the breeze further north and west, we will be frost free for many north
01:29and western areas.
01:30And the cloud will start to build across the north and west, Northern Ireland, Western
01:33Scotland through Saturday morning.
01:34Elsewhere though, a dry start to the weekend, the best of any sunnier weather throughout Saturday
01:40morning as the rain will become pretty persistent throughout the weekend across the north
01:45and west.
01:46We will have rain warnings in force form from Saturday morning all the way through until
01:50Monday actually for many parts of north-western areas of the UK.
01:54Further south and east, you should get away with a relatively dry day on Saturday but it
01:58is going to be a little bit colder than it has been lately.
02:01Temperatures not quite reaching double digits for many areas but if you're close to the coast,
02:04it's going to be a little bit breezier.
02:06Now the rain will continue through Sunday and we're keeping an eye on the accumulations, particularly
02:12across parts of the north and west as it will be another damp evening on Saturday evening,
02:18staying relatively dry across Wales and southern and central areas of England.
02:22This is how the rainfall totals start to build up through Sunday and into Monday and you can
02:26see areas such as Cumbria, parts of the southwest of Scotland, Northern Ireland, North Wales as
02:32well being highlighted as some of the hot spots for the highest totals.
02:36Actually across parts of Cumbria, you can see these red colours, we could see in excess of 200 millimetres
02:41falling over the period of 48 hours which is a lot of rain and will likely bring some impacts of
02:47flooding and travel disruption.
02:49So if you are in these areas or you're planning on travelling to these areas, please do stay tuned to the
02:53forecast throughout this weekend and you can do that by subscribing to our YouTube channel.
02:57I'll see you again soon, bye-bye.
