11 December - National evening forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hi there. For many, Thursday has been a break in between bands of rain. Not for all, though,
00:06it has been a damp afternoon for Northern Ireland and Western Scotland. The weatherfront that has
00:11brought that wet weather is now moving its way east, albeit slowly, so turning wetter across
00:17parts of Wales, the rest of Scotland, Northwest England, Southwest England through the evening,
00:22and then after midnight, that rain slowly makes its way into central parts of the UK.
00:27Ahead of it, cloudier skies, not many cloud gaps, and so temperatures staying up at 9 or 10
00:33Celsius. Behind the front, though, clearer skies. A bright start to Friday for Western and Central
00:40Scotland, Northern Ireland, one or two mist patches around, and a touch of frost in some sheltered
00:44spots. But we keep the sunny skies going for much of the day, and increasingly so across
00:49the rest of Scotland into Northwest England, Wales, and the Southwest. A few showers following
00:55into Western Scotland, Northern Ireland, one or two elsewhere. Some heavy downpours in
00:59the Northwest of Scotland. Gusty winds. But otherwise, it's a much improved picture, I
01:05think, in the Northwest. Whilst the Midlands, East Anglia and the Southeast see this slow-moving
01:09area of cloud and rain gradually peel away through the day. The rain not particularly heavy, but
01:15it will be damp in places for much of the time. Eventually, it disappears for the start of the
01:19weekend. And then we've got the clear skies across Central and South Eastern parts of the UK. So a
01:25reversal of fortunes for Saturday. The lowest temperatures there towards the South and South
01:30East. A few mist patches, perhaps a touch of frost in some sheltered spots as a ridge of high
01:36pressure extends into the South and South East. But already, the next weather system knocking on the
01:41door. Tightly packed isobars. We know what that means by now. It means it's going to turn
01:46increasingly unsettled once again from the Northwest through the weekend. It's going to take all weekend
01:52for this unsettled weather to reach the Southeast. So after that bright start across much of England
01:57and Wales, we keep largely dry and bright conditions into the afternoon. The best of the sunshine towards
02:03London and the Southeast, East Anglia as well. Cloudier skies move in elsewhere. And by the afternoon,
02:09we've got some heavy rain into parts of Northern Ireland, Western and Southern Scotland. That rain
02:15accompanied by strengthening winds as well. And it's going to turn things milder once again with
02:22a strong Southwesterly flow. So 10 to 12 Celsius typically in some of the cooler spots, single
02:29figures. But we're all going to see that wind freshen up by Sunday. Southwesterly is bringing mild air
02:36and bringing a lot of rain. Main concerns for this additional rain, Southwest Scotland, Northwest England
02:43and North Wales, where there are yellow warnings. The risk of 40 millimetres through the weekend
02:48widely in these areas and over some of the wetter hills, 100 millimetres. On top of the rain that
02:55we've seen so much of recently, that could cause further issues. It's going to stay breezy through
03:00the day, but the rain not really reaching the Midlands, the South and Southeast. So although it
03:05turns cloudy, it's mostly dry. The rain across much of Scotland by the end of Sunday and Northern Ireland
03:11replaced by a few showers, but otherwise something a little brighter to end the weekend with.
03:1610 to 12 Celsius still mild for the time of year, not as exceptionally mild, but still a few degrees
03:22above where we'd expect for the middle of December. We'll keep updated on all the latest details on our
03:28YouTube channel. But for now, that's all for me. Bye bye.
