AccuWeather's Bernie Rayno breaks down what you can expect in the coming days as widespread cold and snow make their way through the north-central and eastern U.S.
Transcript
00:00The cold has been locked in from the lakes to the northeast since about Thanksgiving Day, and it has been cold.
00:08But the coldest air mass of this pattern is on the way.
00:12It begins with another fast-moving storm that will be pushing across the upper Midwest Thursday night,
00:18then that pushes in toward the mid-Atlantic states as we get into Friday.
00:22Most of the snow with this is going to be in the Midwest. It's going to be a coating to an inch or two.
00:27But then, here comes the motherlode of cold.
00:32It is across the Northwest Territories and the Yukon Territory of Canada now.
00:37That's going to dive southeast as we head into this weekend.
00:41While it's going to be cold from the lakes toward the northeast,
00:44the coldest part of this air mass is going to be across the upper Midwest on Saturday,
00:49when many locations will struggle to get above zero.
00:53Now, with this Arctic air mass, a storm's going to form.
00:57How quick and how strong the storm is will then dictate how much snow there's going to be with it.
01:03Certainly, there's going to be some snow with this as we get into Saturday across the Midwest.
01:08The question is, does the wave that form along that boundary come up the coast
01:12to bring a lot of snow, at least over six inches, across parts of the northeast?
01:17Or does it just go out to sea and it's flurries?
01:20Yes, both options are possible, but regardless of that storm, get ready for the cold this weekend.
