00:13Fox came out with a poll the other day and said that Jalen Hurts, the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia
00:19Eagles, will be the player that has the most pressure on him of any other player in the National Football
00:27League this coming season.
00:28That's kind of crazy when you think about the resume.
00:30Now, look, it's really difficult to have a conversation about Hurts, especially when you do a sports talk show like
00:37I do in Philadelphia, where you have all the Jalenites rushing to them like this guy's your girlfriend or something.
00:44You got to put things in context here.
00:46Look, the resume, without a doubt, two NFC championships, a Super Bowl, and a Super Bowl MVP.
00:53You can't get away with that.
00:55You can't get around that.
00:56But when you have a conversation, who is the best quarterback in the National Football League, Hurts is not in
01:02the top 20.
01:04He is on a great roster of football players.
01:09Howie Roseman is the preeminent general manager in all the National Football League.
01:15Folks, look at the roster that he's put together the last five or six years.
01:19Over the last four years of 50 and 18, they just end up jettisoning A.J. Brown up to New
01:25England.
01:26They're bringing more talented players in each and every single time.
01:29And this comes at the heels of what Howie has done with that franchise.
01:33As for Hurts, again, I've always thought he was a caboose.
01:36I thought he was a product of the environment that was in the huddle.
01:40I've never seen him elevate his game.
01:43I've never seen him elevate players around the huddle that were in his game.
01:48How could you have two 1,000-yard wide receivers?
01:51People go, Sills, look at the numbers, though.
01:54The players had two 1,000-yard receivers.
01:56My fight and my retort is, well, how could you be 29th in passing if you've got two 1,000
02:04-yard receivers on your football team?
02:06And really, since the 2021 year, Jalen Hurts has averaged around 24th in passing.
02:13And a year ago, where they needed to elevate, when the running game and Saquon Barkley weren't the same, they
02:18couldn't.
02:192026 is a big year for him.
02:21Because remember, the $255 million contract that he signed with the Eagles,
02:26in which they gave him that 50-annual deal at one time was the highest-paid player in the National
02:30Football League,
02:32that's where service is rendered.
02:34He's only got $20 million in guarantees heading into the 2026 season.
02:41Nicole Lynn, his agent at Clutch Sports, is not going to send him in to the 27th season with half
02:46the salary.
02:47They're going to need to renegotiate that contract.
02:50And my question is, do the Eagles look at Jalen Hurts as a $60 million-a-year guy?
02:56I say no.
02:57And that's why they haven't given him a contract extension.
03:01He's eligible for it, could have received it.
03:04And as a matter of fact, at the NFL Combines, Nicole Lynn asked Howie Roseman and the Eagles,
03:10if we were going to get into contract negotiations for an extension.
03:14They declined.
03:16Well, what's the reasoning?
03:18They don't believe they want to be in business with Jalen Hurts until he can show that he can run
03:23a pro-style offense.
03:25Sean Manning, the new offensive coordinator that's been brought in, has been brought in to kind of give that whole
03:31entire offense a complete facelift.
03:34They want to spread the football around, something that they've never done.
03:37How about this?
03:38In 2,400 passing attempts, since Hurts has been the starting quarterback in Philly, 90 passes across the middle of
03:46the field?
03:46Is that by design?
03:48Or is that by the coach saying, we don't believe that he can throw the football across the middle of
03:52the field?
03:53That's where you get more turnovers.
03:55You talk about predictability?
03:56One of the reasons why it's so predictable is because of the limitations that are on the quarterback.
04:02You don't throw across the middle of the field.
04:04You don't have a check down game.
04:05So you're bringing a West Coast-style coach in to turn Jalen Hurts into Matthew Stafford, Brock Purdy, a West
04:16Coast quarterback?
04:17He's never been a West Coast quarterback.
04:20He's been an RPO quarterback his entire career, dating back to Alabama and Oklahoma.
04:27Now, you're asking a former MVP of a Super Bowl, hey, I don't want you to play like you did

04:34I want you to play like Brock Purdy.
04:38How in God's name do you think?
04:40And it would be one of the greatest reclamation projects or turnarounds in the history of an athlete.
04:46It'd be like asking Matthew Stafford, hey, Matthew Stafford, I want you to run the football a little bit more
