00:00Sonic Prime Cracking Down.
00:04It starts with 9 alone in a spaceship instead of with Sonic like at the end of the last story, so that's confusing.
00:11And he drives it into the void, and it drives into something and starts spinning.
00:16Which would only make sense if that thing moved into it while he was driving it.
00:21And it was faster than he expected it to be.
00:24He should be able to see that he's driving towards it, and dodge it.
00:30But it wasn't too damaged from to fly it like nothing happened into a portal and land in a red desert.
00:37He says it's empty just because he looked at the horizon.
00:40And he has to be talking about only sentient life.
00:44Or else he wouldn't think it was good, because no life means no plants to eat.
00:52And yet he says it's perfect because there's no one here.
00:56Even though he says it's grim.
00:57So why did he call it Grimm?
01:01I guess because he knows that if you're lonely for long enough, it'll damage your mental health.
01:07So he's only considering this place because he wants to live here with Sonic.
01:12And he's so selfish, he doesn't have any experience considering other people.
01:16So he didn't consider that Sonic would immediately get bored of this place.
01:23Even if he built a robot Sonic native to this place, he would immediately run out things to do and get bored after he explored the entirety of this world.
01:33Because there'd be no one to talk to, and nothing to watch for entertainment.
01:39He shoots lasers at a giant crystal to get inside, and finds a glowing crystal, and lasers it with his mechanical tails, and then lasers something else, and ends up with a big seed in his hand.
01:51And it's sweet that he says to himself that Sonic's gonna love this place, because he's not just saying,
02:00It's good that he'd love this place, because he'd want to put up with it if he didn't, and that would suck for me.
02:09He's talking like he actually cares about him.
02:12Then it goes back to the present, and he tells Sonic he hacked into something so he could block the council out of the system.
02:19And 9 says it's all going according to plan.
02:23Another cringey line, because it makes him sound like an unrealistic villain.
02:28And Sonic says they're gonna finally fix everything.
02:33And 9 says it's going to be perfect with a smile.
02:36Which is completely in contrast with what Sonic said, because he's talking about that planet he took ownership of.
02:44What does he think Sonic means by fix everything?
02:47There's obviously only one thing he could mean by that, and it's restore his world.
02:56Isn't 9 still planning to make his own world?
02:59So, he thinks he can still do that after letting him fix everything.
03:05It's pretty obvious that he's not really responding to what Sonic says, and he's contradicting him.
03:12Why isn't Sonic taken aback by this?
03:15It's going to be perfect.
03:16I mean, of course it's going to be perfect.
03:20There wouldn't be any doubt that he wouldn't be able to restore the world properly.
03:25It's more like he's talking about something else.
03:28Why don't they talk about this?
03:31Sonic could very easily say,
03:33And after I restore my world, you can show me what your new world is going to look like.
03:40He uses his Tails to get into a room and shock some robots, which looks cool.
03:44I really don't understand why Tails can't use gadgets to do this.
03:49Why can't he always carry around something that can do that?
03:52He's excited to show Sonic what he's got going on in the Grim.
03:58And 9 puts a prism shard in something and gets told there's a fourth shard and a blueprint thing there.
04:04Sonic and 9 fly away in the spaceship towards the portal.
04:07A bunch of filler happening here, during which they could easily have a conversation.
04:149 doesn't trust the green portals because he thinks they look unstable.
04:18Just judging them by their looks.
04:21But that's really hypocritical for him.
04:24Why does it matter what the portal color looks like?
04:27So, green portals represent space-time being weaker in fabric?
04:36Sonic calls him his best buddy, and it's sweet to see him smile while looking away from him.
04:42Sonic calls what he's doing epic, and it's sweet that he says yes it was.
04:47Then, because the aircraft gets shot,
04:519's just sad enough to tell him to stop saying stuff like this.
04:54He had a rough life, so I can forgive it, but he was being totally unfair.
05:00The ship crashes, and the council gets inconvenienced in Sonic's favor because of the airship owned by Rusty and Black Rose.
05:08Sonic runs while pushing a crate 9 is riding on,
05:12and 9 tells him where to go over and over.
05:15Sonic's so fast that he would have found where he wanted to get to on his own eventually.
05:19Sonic tells 9 that the unstable portals are safe,
05:23because other stuff went through it and they were fine.
05:26And conveniently, 9 trusts him even though he's paranoid and had a rough life.
05:31He could have just as easily thought,
05:33maybe only inanimate objects are able to survive the portals.
05:38But, you know, they don't really have a choice.
05:42So it makes sense, I guess.
05:44They go through the portal, and 9 gets flung ahead in the air,
05:47and Sonic uses the hard metal thing to catch him,
05:50and somehow he just thanks him instead of being in pain.
05:54I guess he's ignoring the pain.
05:56Because just thankful he's not drowning?
06:00Good thing he had rings?
06:02Sonic tells him that's what friends are for,
06:05and Sales sees them and says stupidly that anything that floats is a boat.
06:09And only now does 9 end up looking at him all stunned,
06:13even though he saw that he looked like him seconds before this and didn't react like that.
06:19The teen Eggman spaceship gets hit by colorful explosions,
06:24so that was nice looking,
06:26and 9 flies while carrying their crate to get them into the portal.
06:30Sonic says the cheesy line that this is what you get when you have friends,
06:34which is bad in the games, too,
06:37because he's supposed to be cool.
06:39There's a point where Sonic said 9's gonna love Tails,
06:43without elaborating on it.
06:45So he's still under the assumption that returning his world wouldn't end 9's consciousness.
06:51And he's especially running under desperation and delusion,
06:55because any unbiased, neutral party would assume 9 would hate Tails out of jealousy.
07:00And he's just thinking,
07:03if he talks to him long enough,
07:05his optimistic, cheerful friendliness will warm his heart.
07:10Dread tries to betray Sonic,
07:12and 9 immediately says sarcastically that it's great having friends.
07:17It would be unrealistic if they never argued.
07:21Thanks to another Knuckles protecting them,
07:23they end up being able to get away through the portal to the jungle world.
07:27This is such blatant filler,
07:29that they keep going to worlds that don't actually progress the plot,
07:34that could just be cut out of the story and it wouldn't matter.
07:37Because it's not like they had any real character interaction between 9 and Sales.
07:43There's no way he would call 9 Tails 9.
07:47He still remembers he doesn't want to be called Tails at the moment.
07:51They hear an earthquake.
07:53Sonic says that's not good,
07:55even though it isn't clear what he's seeing.
07:589 says their powers are intensified because of their close proximity,
08:02so the case won't hold them much longer.
08:05So that's new.
08:07I think Sonic X basically already did this with the Chaos Emerald.
08:11Again, this is just arbitrary.
08:13It just happens because a writer can make a magical gem do whatever it wants.
08:18This is the problem with fantasy.
08:21Thorne's pet bird uses its wings to fight back against the robots,
08:25and Thorne helps fight them too.
08:28Sonic runs while pushing the crate with 9 on it into the void,
08:31and he lets go of the crate while stopping from arbitrary forced exhaustion.
08:37Shadow puts his hands out to stop the crate 9's on that was heading towards him.
08:42He hates 9,
08:44or at least doesn't trust him.
08:46So why would he stop the crate's momentum to help him out,
08:49when he thinks it's inevitable that he's going to betray Sonic,
08:52and he doesn't know that he needs 9's help?
08:56Well, I guess because he assumed Sonic would punch him if he didn't help him?
09:00They end up going to the place where there's holograms of Sonic's friends repeating stuff.
09:09Shadow calls it sycophantic wish fulfillment,
09:13being very relatable right now.
09:15Sonic's sentimental enough to like this place instead of finding it sad like I'd expect.
09:219 walks out of earshot of them and calls this world an embryonic shatterverse,
09:27like he got stuck in the blueprint while forming.
09:30Well, isn't that another arbitrary thing that only is the case because that's the nature of the prism?
09:38He says it could be useful in finishing his new world,
09:41which somehow he decided to call the Grimm,
09:44even though it's an obviously evil name,
09:47or at least a name that reflects the nature of how solitaire confinement
09:51would take a toll on your mental health.
09:53And he wouldn't really consider the Grimm to be depressing if he's planning on living in it with Sonic,
10:00so it wouldn't really be Grimm anymore.
10:03The fact that he calls it the Grimm anyways is one of the things that makes it really obvious that it'll become a villain.
10:09Or it could be that he had exposure to emo or goth culture through television,
10:15and so he identified with that because he sees them as being rejects too.
10:20But there's no indication of that.
10:22We just have to assume it based on the clothes he's wearing.
10:25But that's the assumption you'd come if you were in good faith about him.
10:29And it's hard to be when he tried to kill Sonic as soon as he first met him.
10:34It's a lot easier for people to assume he's only wearing black clothes because he's evil.
10:40He hears Tails' holograms say that as long as he's around, Sonic will always have a win in.
10:46It was hard to understand what he said at first.
10:50Nine says they're nothing alike.
10:52And sadly, that's the end of it.
10:54I just have to assume it's because Tails looks cheerful with total faith that things are going to go well.
11:01But Nine's had moments like that with Sonic too.
11:04He's talking as if Tails doesn't have a relatable to him reason to talk like this.
11:09What should have happened in the story is,
11:12he had some free time when he was flying the spaceship,
11:15so he should have been written to ask Sonic to describe Tails' Sam in detail.
11:19Or more likely, Sonic would have told him what Tails was like unprompted.
11:24Which he could have easily done after he said,
11:26you're going to love Tails.
11:28Instead, he's got a flimsy reason to think he's always cheerful.
11:33Him having no respect for Tails because he's not as optimistic as him,
11:37the same thing Shadow hates about Sonic,
11:40gives him an emotional reason to be reluctant to do something so that he can meet Tails.
11:45Eventually, they open the box,
11:47and Nine says the alignment must be perfect because the slightest variation could be terrible.
11:52People and places could be ripped from existence.
11:56Ripped from existence as in destroyed?
11:59I thought that was going to happen anyways no matter what,
12:02if the only way to restore Sonic's universe
12:04would be to make it so that none of the worlds we saw keep being the way they are anymore.
12:10And that's why it's called the Shatterverse.
12:12Because it's one universe shattered apart.
12:14I hope it's just that we were overthinking it.
12:18My point is he's talking as if he can prevent people from dying when they restore Sonic's world.
12:25He says if he doesn't do this right, then reality could be changed forever.
12:29But he'd be changed forever no matter what,
12:32because doing what I just said would do that.
12:36For him to go along with Sonic's plan,
12:38he'd have to mean he thinks he could do this so that the people and places in the show would survive the show ending.
12:44And so that happening would only be a result of him screwing up.
12:48I assume this won't be the case,
12:49but right now it looks like it'd be a lot eviler than I expected from To Not Restore's world,
12:54because it'd be purely out of spite
12:56if he could do that without causing the end of Nine as we know him.
13:01If that was all they had a problem with each other over,
13:04that would make perfect sense.
13:07He says he could do it with some calculations,
13:10and he tells them he needs to be alone to work to have no distractions.
13:16Sonic thanks him and calls him Buddy and says they're a good team,
13:19and they high-five.
13:21And he chose his character development because this time he's normal about it.
13:25Yet again, Shadow says Nine can't be trusted.
13:29What's the point of doing this again?
13:31If you foreshadow something too many times,
13:34won't it just increase the likelihood that the audience hates it if it actually happens?
13:39It doesn't get any more dramatic.
13:43An airship belonging to the council shows up in front of Sonic as the story ends.
13:47This story by Patricia Velletto spends most of its time with Sonic running away from his enemies
13:54with the Prism Shards until he gets them to the cave from before.
13:59It's a little boring with filler all over the place,
14:02but at least it's trying to be exciting.
14:04It's just very repetitive and bare-bones as a plot.
14:07It has the most sweet moments between Sonic and Nine, though.
14:13So it's the least bad episode by far.
14:16I think it's actually the best episode in the show.
14:19Speaking as someone who watched the whole show.
14:22Obviously, when I first write the script for a review of an episode,
14:26I just watched it, and I haven't watched the whole show.
14:31But by the time I started recording my commentary,
14:34I had watched the whole show.
14:36So occasionally I talk like I already watched it all.
14:39But that's just improvisation.
14:42But yeah, this is clearly the least bad episode.
14:45I don't remember Sonic coming off like a complete idiot this time.
14:49For the most part.
14:51He was overly optimistic about Nine liking Tails.
14:54Even though it's obvious for a mile.
14:57He looks like an Evil Tails.
15:00It kept seeming like the prism could summon anything people wanted.
15:05But if that was really the case,
15:07he would have used the prism shard to summon the rest of the prism shards.
15:11He didn't use it to create a portal gun that would warp Sonic to him.
15:16I guess he just didn't have a good enough imagination.
15:20I mean, if the characters were really smart,
15:21they would use the prism shard to summon a portal gun
15:24that would have the prism shards on the other end of it.
15:28It's too bad this genius character didn't think of that.
15:31And if that's not possible with a prism shard,
15:34the show should have explained it.
15:36Because it really gave the impression that
15:38anyone could create anything they wanted with the prism shards.
15:41It's too bad this way to put it in the prism shards.
15:42It's too bad that you don't have to be in the prism shards.
