00:04Sonic runs around Hilltop Zone with an entire page being wasted on nothing happening.
00:11And it's explained that Sonic is such a thrill seeker that he likes being around lava,
00:17which no one assumed about him.
00:20But he is supposed to be a daredevil.
00:23It's better to be flanderizing than making something up completely.
00:28And as usual, I have to just assume that he's magically immune to the convection of lava, specifically.
00:37It's more interesting to see him here than in Green Hill or Emerald Hill.
00:42And nobody would have cared about the setting he was in if it was an original setting that had no
00:48history.
00:50He wastes a bunch of my time, thinking he needs to make it back to Oil Ocean at one point.
00:56So good, it's not just that he's here because he's self-destructively thrill-seeking to the point of parody.
01:03He's just passing through because he happens to end up here after beating Dark Gaia.
01:09So he doesn't have a choice.
01:12After more padding, it cuts to Tails and Router.
01:16So there's no point in seeing Sonic so far because he did nothing.
01:21Tails says he set up the holoprojector meant to wake Nicole up.
01:26And Router has a bunch of boring technobabble in response about whether it's a good idea to use an old
01:32projector to bring out Nicole for just a few minutes.
01:37Why does Tails bother saying all of this instead of just doing it and not wasting my time if he's
01:42really optimistic?
01:45Router says Sonic's rubbing off on him because he's being optimistic about an unlikely thing.
01:51Establishing that apparently it took until now to become optimistic.
01:55It's hard to know for sure if that's been the case in the games because Tails thought Sonic needed his
02:01help the whole time in them.
02:02So he would have gone on adventures with them anyways.
02:04But since this is a good thing, it doesn't matter.
02:07It's the way that Sonic made him with cheerful.
02:10It would have been ideal if the writer didn't establish that it wasn't likely to work, though, because it makes
02:17it a little less believable.
02:19He brings back Nicole's physical form so she could be happy about being in the real world.
02:25So we're a few pages in and no plot progress has happened yet.
02:30I get to see Tails and Router welcome her back.
02:33And Router takes responsibility for Tails, Thal, and Phage invading the systems of the Raidership.
02:38And I get to see her reassure him because she only survived because of how well he built the airship.
02:45It's the materials of the airship itself that made sure she'd survive.
02:50And there's no chance that anybody would have picked materials that were more vulnerable to getting damage for an airship
02:56with nothing to gain from it.
02:59Because it would have had to do an air battle eventually.
03:03Tails, of course, asks her if there's any traces of Tails, Thal, and Phage in the digital world.
03:08And she says there aren't any, but she'll run a scan when repairs are done.
03:12With nothing prompting him to say this, Tails suggests taking a break to hang out for a bit as if
03:18she ever implied she wasn't going to.
03:21Somehow he read her mind.
03:23She says she can't maintain this form, which they already knew.
03:28So then what was the point of him saying that?
03:31And then it goes back to wasting my time with boring dialogue about what their future plans are when it
03:36would have actually been engaging to see them engage in those plans.
03:41While he's saying that boring dialogue with an insufferable smirk that's out of character,
03:46for no reason he says they need to get a ring energy converter and a cool found one in Arctica,
03:51so they need to go there.
03:53I guess by found he needs detected, because if she picked it up, they should already have it.
04:00And it's faster to get one than make one, and I assume Eggman destroyed any if they made any before,
04:09so I get it.
04:11Maybe it takes a long time to make one, so they can't just have a huge amount of them in
04:16the back burner.
04:18Roto says they're not even sure if it's there, and he makes up the excuse that stealing is wrong,
04:23even though it was stolen in the first place, and he was the one who wanted to steal an emerald
04:28from Breezy,
04:28and thankfully it's explained as him not wanting to go back to the place where his abusive father lives,
04:33so it's not out of character.
04:36Okay, but nothing requires him to go there.
04:39So Tails should have said that.
04:41Roto had no reason to even consider that he'd be forced to go there.
04:45And especially no reason to consider making up an excuse that nobody would have any chance of being convinced by.
04:52He's supposed to be smart.
04:54Why is Tails smiling when trying to reason with him?
04:57Like he doesn't care about his irrational feelings.
05:00Nicole finally points out after boring restating of what Tails said for no reason,
05:05that getting back what he invented from the man who always hated it would be satisfying.
05:09He should have already known that.
05:12So it's not the stadium that should convince him, it's the fact that his friends are all peer pressuring him.
05:19I don't remember it being that his ring energy converter was made by him when he was a kid.
05:25I don't think his father hated it in particular, and just hated that it represented him being interested in something
05:30other than what he wanted.
05:32He'd have to be insane to hate something so useful.
05:36He humors them, and it's cool that he says that if he does any talking, it'll be with his fists,
05:42but I'll believe it when I see it, and I doubt I will.
05:45They're already wasting my time by showing all of this instead,
05:49even though it doesn't advance the plot,
05:51because we never would have considered that he would insist on them not going to ArctaCon in the first place,
05:56so this could have been skipped past.
05:59Tails thanks her, and she frustrates me by somehow not understanding why he would want to get back at an
06:04abusive father,
06:06despite the fact that they're the freedom fighters,
06:09so their entire thing is wanting to get back at somebody.
06:12Then the story shows me Sally, Cream, and Amy,
06:16and continues completely wasting my time instead of having things happen.
06:21If you're going to take the time to make another issue for the reboot instead of what Archie's Sonic fans
06:26want,
06:26and it takes forever to finish every issue,
06:29it's unacceptably dumb to have any scene not advance the plot.
06:33If I wanted to just read a bunch of dialogue with nothing actually happening,
06:37well, that's just fanfiction with pictures.
06:40Why is it wasting my time showing Sally to help Cream what Nicole's creator's like?
06:45She's going to find that out anyways.
06:47Why not just show her talking to him?
06:51She describes him as complicated for no reason,
06:54and for no reason again, she tells Amy she can't fit six suitcases worth of dresses,
07:00which is confusing,
07:01because she's talking as if Amy's had a habit of wearing more than just the same thing over and over
07:06again,
07:07and she hasn't.
07:08It'd be great if she got over that and wore better outfits,
07:11but you can just instantly have her start wearing different outfits without confusing us
07:16by retconning that she was wearing different things in the past issues.
07:20She's also treating Amy like she's impossibly dumb by even telling her this.
07:26And this isn't pre-boot Sally and Amy,
07:29so it's not consistent.
07:31It's nice that Amy references the dress Honey made for.
07:35But it's pointless for her to be shown saying this,
07:37because we're probably going to see it anyway,
07:40and it'd feel better to see it.
07:42So all this ends up doing is making me wonder why Honey was stupid enough
07:46to cancel a line of fashion for no reason.
07:49The story wastes my time again.
07:52Sally's saying that she envies positivity rings hollow
07:55in a story where she's done nothing but smile for no reason so far.
08:00And I think she's been cheerful in most of the reboot too,
08:02and just gets remembered by a few moments where she was too angsty.
08:08Amy says she thought things would be less hectic in the world once it was put back together,
08:12and this was done to give Sally an excuse to give us some interesting exposition
08:16that ecosystems were thrown out of whack and infrastructures destroyed.
08:21But the infrastructure being destroyed is something we already assumed
08:25because of course the planet split apart in areas where roads were
08:28and the ecosystems would immediately restore themselves
08:31when the planet got put back together
08:33because now nothing is stopping animals from going where they did before.
08:37Somehow Amy and Sally are stupid enough to think the ecosystem thing
08:42is something for them to worry about.
08:44But it's so stupid of them that it isn't worth attention being given to the fact
08:48that the protagonists of Sonic are supposed to care about the environment.
08:52What would have achieved the same goal would have been
08:55if she referenced trees and other plant life being destroyed
08:57that people need to replant.
09:00Yeah, but we already knew that.
09:01Either show the heroes fixing these problems,
09:04which would be better to see,
09:05or don't waste our time.
09:07This has the same problem as IDW
09:09with nothing but tell instead of show
09:11and too much worthless dialogue and idiot characters.
09:14So the only reason I'm appreciating this story
09:16is because it takes place in a world that's actually interesting
09:19because it's got more than just villages that are all mostly the same
09:23and vases of Eggman
09:25with one floating island somewhere
09:27and one city
09:29that aside from being densely populated by Zombots,
09:33it never treated it like it was any different from being a city.
09:37and it's got more characters.
09:39The story bores me for a while after this
09:42because Sally and Amy tell each other things
09:44that they already know for no reason.
09:46What kind of name for an island is Isolated Island?
09:50Every island is isolated.
09:52No one would call an island that.
09:55What about Badnik Island?
09:57Cream reassures Sally and gets thanked for it.
10:00And this more worthless filler
10:03that ends up portraying Cream as an idiot
10:05for forgetting her suitcase for a second
10:08which was completely unnecessary
10:09and just makes it feel like a downgrade
10:11compared to how she was in the games.
10:14I mean, everybody forgets something from time to time
10:17but this was still unnecessary.
10:19The story tries to make us feel better
10:21about the fact that Antoine doesn't have a father around
10:24by having him reveal out of nowhere that he was abusive.
10:26He threatens to use a sword on his hair to keep him in line.
10:30And somehow a hero like Bunny
10:32thinks that's funny.
10:33I guess because she just assumes
10:35it was an empty threat.
10:37Well, it makes it not so bad that he's not around
10:39so I guess that's worth the character assassination
10:41for someone nobody liked anyways
10:43because he was gone at the start of the reboot
10:45in the first place
10:46and had no established character.
10:49But the scene goes back to being a blatant waste of time.
10:53It's too bad there isn't an editor for this issue
10:55or he did literally nothing but check the spelling and grammar
10:58and say, done, good enough.
11:00Who fucking cares about this?
11:03How is the scene necessary?
11:05It's just adding insult to injury
11:07to have so many scenes in a row
11:09that don't advance the plot.
11:12Antoine's a complete idiot
11:13who thinks for no reason at all
11:14that he has to be apart from someone
11:16who can protect him
11:16with a bunch of powers he doesn't have
11:18to do something.
11:20So he's just begging to get kidnapped
11:22and Bunny continues
11:23her only standout personality trait
11:25of being an idiot
11:26by standing by that decision.
11:29At one point in the field
11:30it shows Bunny and Joy
11:31being flirted with
11:32which is just crumbs of fan service
11:34compared to showing them kissing
11:36and it ruins it for me
11:37by having Antoine smirk.
11:39So that was a worthless scene.
11:41It didn't even really tell me
11:42what Antoine's planning to do
11:44with exact words.
11:45I just have to assume
11:46he's planning on bringing
11:47his father's sword somewhere
11:48even though he found it
11:50with the letter telling him
11:51to keep it
11:51because it doesn't tell you
11:53that this happened before
11:54that Sonic Universe Restored issue.
11:58And Sonic's shown going through
11:59Mystic Cave Zone
12:00which apparently was left
12:02with rickety rails by Eggman
12:04which is some nice creativity
12:05that makes it a little bit worth seeing.
12:08I say creativity
12:09because I don't remember
12:10any mine cart rails in the game
12:12and Sonic didn't do
12:13any rail grinding there.
12:15But one panel creativity
12:17that doesn't impact the plot
12:18doesn't change the fact
12:19that the scene is padding.
12:22Sadly, this isn't the only panel
12:24of him being in Mystic Cave Zone
12:25so the rest of it
12:26is just boring filler.
12:27We already assumed
12:28he would have been sad
12:29that Chip wasn't going to be
12:30around him anymore
12:31and this is just alienating
12:32to the people who found him
12:33annoying as hell
12:34because they actually understood
12:36what this franchise
12:36was meant to beat
12:37from the very beginning.
12:38A story that took itself seriously.
12:41It wasn't about
12:42obnoxious comedy
12:43and lame voices
12:44and character designs.
12:46Sonic explains that
12:48he's planning on bringing
12:49an oil sample back
12:50to his uncle.
12:51He could have explained
12:52that right before
12:53he actually did it instead
12:55and showed Chip himself
12:57what he's been cooking up.
13:00So he's planning on
13:01getting back into contact
13:02with Chip somehow
13:04even though Chip
13:04doesn't have any technology
13:06and isn't physical
13:07so he couldn't use it anyways.
13:09They would have to get
13:10fireproof technology
13:11to the unlivably hot
13:13core of the earth
13:14magically
13:14that could magically
13:15receive signals
13:16without them getting
13:17blocked by all the ground
13:18above Chip
13:19and would never run out
13:20of battery.
13:21So they'd have to
13:22threaten Ixos'
13:23sister at gunpoint
13:25to get it done.
13:27Or he's just saying
13:28show you
13:28because he's delusional
13:30that Chip is able to see
13:31any part of the world
13:32at any given time
13:33with no proof
13:34even though he didn't
13:35die.
13:36He went into the core
13:37of the earth
13:38just as much a god
13:39as he was before.
13:42So because that's
13:43his whole point
13:44to stay in the core
13:46of the earth normally
13:47he wouldn't die from it
13:48because he came
13:50from there
13:50in the first place.
13:52It's sad when
13:53all there is to talk
13:54about is usually going
13:55what an idiot.
13:57And then I have to
13:58see him think
13:59with the words
13:59sweet oil stench.
14:02I have to assume
14:03he's being sarcastic
14:04but what is the point
14:05to making him
14:06sarcastically
14:06have a thought
14:07that's completely
14:08out of line
14:08from what the creator
14:09of the franchise
14:10intended for it
14:11when you could have
14:12him just complain
14:13about the smell.
14:14He would hate it
14:15too much
14:16to joke about it.
14:17And after more
14:18worthless padding
14:20Sniffle has a
14:21justifiable complaint
14:22that Gunn made
14:23a mistake
14:23by not realizing
14:24that he could have
14:25cracked Eggman's
14:26internet network
14:27wide open years ago
14:28and instead
14:29they made him feel
14:30just as unappreciated
14:31as Eggman did.
14:32Which could help
14:33justify why he would
14:34agree to work
14:35for Eggman again
14:36after he contacts
14:37him in a cool way
14:38by talking to him
14:39using his eyepiece
14:40as a hologram projector.
14:42Gunn could have
14:43used a chocolate bar
14:44to bribe him
14:45into helping with them
14:46but they're just
14:47that undrusting
14:48that they think
14:49he would just
14:49program something
14:50that would inconvenience
14:51them too I guess.
14:53I'm getting reminded
14:54of the time
14:55in the actual run
14:56of Archisonic
14:56in the pre-reboot universe
14:58where Eggman also
14:59talks Sniffle
14:59into working for him
15:00again because
15:01the writer thought
15:01the fans wound up
15:02to not be in a
15:03creative new position
15:04where he could do
15:04things he never did
15:05before and instead
15:07remind them of
15:08Sad AM every time
15:09he's on screen.
15:10At least this time
15:11I'm not aware
15:12of any times
15:13that Sniffle
15:14betrayed him
15:14in the past
15:14in the reboot.
15:15Still he has to be
15:16really desperate
15:17for his help
15:18so this better
15:18be justified
15:19with that.
15:21I guess Sniffle
15:22is a forgettable
15:22character impact wise
15:24because I can't
15:24remember any times
15:25he actually did
15:26any engineering
15:27ever.
15:28And that's the only
15:29thing he'd be needed
15:30for.
15:31To have an extra
15:31engineer on hand
15:32to get things done
15:33faster
15:33he has the ability
15:34to come up
15:35with new tactics
15:35on the fly
15:36in case of an
15:37emergency
15:37unlike a robot
15:39he could replace
15:39him with
15:40because if all
15:41he did was
15:41assistive stuff
15:42you could get
15:43a robot to
15:44bring you coffee
15:45and press buttons.
15:48Sniffle
15:49asking him
15:49how he got
15:50on this line
15:51has to have him
15:52asking for specifics
15:53because he shouldn't
15:54be surprised
15:55that Eggman
15:56would be capable
15:57of doing this.
15:59Sniffle
15:59is scared
16:00of getting overheard
16:01and gets told
16:02he had a backdoor
16:02built into Gunn
16:03for ages
16:04and has only
16:05allowed them
16:05to continue existing
16:06because watching
16:07them do things
16:08is interesting
16:09to him.
16:11Will he ask
16:11me to think
16:12like this
16:12to justify
16:13him not simply
16:14destroying the
16:14homes of most
16:15of his enemies
16:16at night?
16:17The games make
16:18it clear he wants
16:19to kill them
16:20because of the
16:20badniks and stuff
16:21but he wants to
16:22kill them when
16:23they're awake.
16:24He lampshades
16:25that it isn't
16:25expected of Sniffle
16:26to go back
16:27to working for Gunn.
16:29Yeah but that's
16:29why it was good
16:30writing because
16:31it was creative
16:32and gutsy
16:32and more importantly
16:33gave him the ability
16:34to do new things
16:35in a story
16:35that he wouldn't
16:36have otherwise.
16:37So right now
16:38I'm really hoping
16:39he's going to be
16:39a double agent
16:40for him at least
16:40so he can keep
16:41that story potential.
16:42Not that he'd
16:43want any more
16:43issues of this.
16:45It's cathartic
16:46that Sniffle
16:46tells him to
16:47stop posturing
16:48and tell him
16:48what he wants.
16:50He tells him
16:50that Death Egg
16:51is going to
16:51destroy Gunn
16:52when it's fully
16:53powered.
16:54Come to think of it
16:55he's pretty
16:55simple-minded here
16:56because nothing's
16:57stopping someone
16:58from just
16:59making a new
17:00gun afterwards.
17:02Because there's
17:03always going to be
17:03brave people
17:04in the world.
17:05I mean he's
17:06also against
17:08environmentalism
17:09so he would
17:10be the kind of
17:11destroy the problem
17:12but not the
17:13rule the problem
17:13person too.
17:15He doesn't explain
17:16why he thinks
17:17that now it's
17:18gotten to be
17:18such a threat
17:19that's not worth
17:20letting it stick
17:20around for his
17:21own amusement.
17:23So that's
17:24forced.
17:25Why didn't
17:25he wipe it
17:26clean off the
17:27map years ago
17:28then?
17:29He says for
17:30old times sake
17:31he's giving him
17:31the one chance
17:32to go back
17:33to him.
17:35But he was
17:36an annoying
17:37assistant
17:37so why would
17:38he look back
17:39on old times
17:40positively?
17:41He could make
17:42a clone of him
17:44and he would
17:45be even more
17:46family to him
17:47because he
17:47made him.
17:50Sniffle is
17:50smart enough
17:51to say that
17:51he knows
17:52Eggman's
17:52going to
17:52lose again.
17:54It's actually
17:55satisfying to
17:55see this
17:56especially when
17:57he gets shown
17:57smirking at
17:58him.
17:59But I still
18:00wish he looked
18:00more like he
18:01did in Sad
18:01AM.
18:02The novelty
18:03value of him
18:04having a beard
18:04gets used up
18:06after the first
18:07issue.
18:08He's talking
18:09like Sonic.
18:10It makes sense
18:11that he'd
18:11imitate him
18:12to annoy him.
18:13I mean I
18:14don't think he
18:15ever faced
18:15Sonic in a
18:17fight so he
18:18wouldn't have
18:19the same amount
18:20of hatred for
18:20him that
18:21Eggman does.
18:22He turns off
18:23his communications
18:24with him before
18:25revealing it as
18:26an emerald and
18:26finishing his
18:27sentence.
18:28He has to
18:29have not let
18:30him finish his
18:31sentence on
18:31purpose to
18:32annoy him.
18:33I find this
18:34cathartic because
18:35Eggman wanted
18:36him to just do
18:37what he's already
18:37done a billion
18:38times and I'm
18:39proud of the
18:39writer for
18:40having the
18:40guts.
18:41And to be
18:42fair Sniffle
18:42has already
18:43got his own
18:44evil plan behind
18:44the scenes in
18:45the reboot so
18:46it's not going
18:47to add any
18:47new story
18:48potential to
18:48have him do
18:49what Eggman
18:49wants.
18:50So this is
18:51one good
18:52scene but it
18:53still doesn't
18:54make the
18:54issue worse.
