00:01Previously on Project Runway All-Stars,
00:03you'll design outfits for two singles
00:06about to go on their first date.
00:08That means we're dressing a man.
00:09Maybe I should do menswear.
00:11Here's something that I can do.
00:12At first I was going to do the menswear,
00:14but then there was some skepticism.
00:16It's sexy and it's sophisticated at the same time.
00:19Cool.
00:24I love this high neck.
00:25It's almost ecclesiastical and nautical on a yacht.
00:28I'm a huge fan of Heather Gray.
00:30To mix it with that lilac, absolutely brilliant.
00:33The winner this week is Fabio.
00:36This fabric looks like a pair of amazing pajamas.
00:41He told you to make him nothing and you made him nothing.
00:44Banana Republic is what that could be.
00:46Helen and Justin, we were unhappy with both of your looks,
00:49but you were successful in creating chemistry
00:51with both of your singles.
00:53So we are going to give you both a second chance.
00:5814 of the best designers from Project Runway are back.
01:03And this time the competition is bigger than ever.
01:07Each week their skills are tested to the limit
01:10as they compete for the largest prize in runway history.
01:14Who will be cut?
01:16And who will have it all sewn up?
01:20This is Project Runway All Stars.
01:30Happy birthday Michelle.
01:32Happy birthday Michelle.
01:34Today is my birthday.
01:3630, 60s.
01:38So we're having coffee at Gotham West Market.
01:41Look at the newspaper.
01:43Justin notices that Alyssa Milano is on the cover of USA Today.
01:47Whoa!
01:49Alyssa Milano makes a splash.
01:52Project Runway All Star designers head out for some fun in the sun.
01:55Are you guys ready to find out what this is about?
01:58Yeah.
01:59Let's go.
02:00Hello.
02:01Good morning.
02:02Good morning.
02:03I see the USA Today headline led you here.
02:18I'd like to introduce you to the president of USA Today Travel, John Peters.
02:23Hi.
02:24Hi, designers.
02:25At USA Today Travel, we provide tools and information to help travelers make the most of their trip.
02:29From planning and booking to experiencing and sharing, we give readers what they need to personalize their lifestyle and their travel destination.
02:36And because no travel experience is complete without just the right wardrobe, your challenge is to create elegant resort wear suitable for a glamorous getaway.
02:46Okay.
02:47Resort wear can go day to night, can be a beach wear, evening wear, can be anything.
02:54Your budget is $150 and is extra motivation.
02:59USA Today is providing a special prize.
03:01You want to tell us about that, John?
03:03Well, USA Today will publish a photo story and interview with the winning designer and their look.
03:08USA Today reaches millions of people daily, so this is exposure that no money can buy.
03:12And we'll offer the winner a customized vacation getaway to the Caribbean.
03:19We need a vacation.
03:20We need a vacation time.
03:21Oh, my God.
03:22Okay, designers.
03:23This is a big prize.
03:25So let's up the ante with an all-stars twist.
03:29You must also design a swimsuit to go under your outfit.
03:33I've never made swimsuits, so this is really a challenge on top of another challenge.
03:38I've never done swimsuits.
03:40I have not made swimwear before, so I'm hoping it will pan out for the best.
03:46My last line was all swimwear, but the first probably ten I made were awful.
03:52There's one last thing.
03:54To make sure you don't get too comfortable, you're going to be randomly assigned a new model.
04:00When you design for one model all the time, she becomes your muse.
04:06But I love my girl.
04:08We know their bodies, we're accustomed to their fittings, and now I don't know who I'm working with.
04:13Now, most swimsuits are made of lycra, so to help you, we've conveniently placed all the swatches under the water just for you.
04:19No, no, no.
04:21Baby girl's not getting her hair wet for nobody.
04:24Wait a minute, did you really think that we were going to make you strip to do it?
04:27Yes.
04:28Don't worry, we would not do that to you.
04:31Instead, I've called in a few friends to help.
04:34Oh.
04:35Come on out, boys.
04:38Okay.
04:39Oh.
04:40Good job.
04:41I'll be sure.
04:42The all-stars pool boys are here to help you with your swatch selection.
04:46Pool boys, forget the challenge because pool boys.
04:50The boys will swim in for your lycra and then climb out of the pool to show you the fabric up close.
04:55If you don't like the selection, you just send them back in.
04:58There's no time restriction.
05:00Oh, we could do this all day?
05:02I'm hoping my fabric is all the way in the end of the pool so I can see him swim and see his pretty hair glistening in the water.
05:09Are you ready?
05:10Yes.
05:11Good job.
05:12Oh, my God.
05:13Happy birthday, Michelle.
05:19Oh, no.
05:20No, no, no, no, no.
05:21Oh, my God.
05:22I love it.
05:24Find me a good one.
05:25Find me a good one.
05:26Find me a good one.
05:27One of the first things that I see is a zigzag print.
05:31It's yellow and black.
05:33And it's the only one that's really graphic.
05:35Everything else is muddled and cheesy.
05:37Oh, I like it.
05:38There's a reason it's speaking to me.
05:39I'll keep it.
05:40That's cool.
05:41I choose this yellow and black print.
05:42It's very graphic.
05:43And then I look around and I see that Michelle is using the same fabric.
05:48And if Michelle is using it, I'm gonna switch.
05:50What about this red one?
05:51Okay.
05:52Oh, my God.
05:53Oh, my God.
05:54Oh, my God.
05:55Oh, my God.
05:56Oh, my God.
05:57Oh, my God.
05:58Oh, my God, my God.
05:59Oh, my God.
06:01Oh, my God.
06:02Oh, my God.
06:03Oh, my God.
06:04Oh, my God.
06:05It's my God's name.
06:06I'm gonna switch.
06:07What about this red one?
06:08Okay, let's see.
06:10I choose this camouflage print.
06:12It's very, very different from everyone else,
06:15and I think it might be risky.
06:17Oh, I love it.
06:19I just hope the judges will react in a positive way.
06:22Yeah, it looks good with the black.
06:24I like it with the black.
06:25Yes, I love this.
06:27This is perfect.
06:28I decide to go with this feather print
06:30that has a lot of colors.
06:31It's a little bright, but spews vacation.
06:33Kevin, can you do a backstroke, please?
06:36We have the sketch.
06:39Thanks, boys.
06:44I'm thinking rock and roll, relax, Ibiza.
06:48I've decided to come up with a really simple silhouette.
06:51The pattern alone is already complicated and busy.
06:54I don't want to make a really busy swimsuit.
06:57Last week, they mentioned that they can buy my look
07:00at a cheap department store.
07:02So I will make sure that this week you cannot find it in any store.
07:07It's going to have to be custom made.
07:10The swimwear will be a one-piece red cutout,
07:13and the back is going to be all black striped.
07:15I'm transferring that look to my resort wear.
07:18I'm going to make a really bold piece that people will not forget.
07:24My girl is just a Miami girl.
07:25For my resort wear, I'm doing this matte beaded gray tunic shape.
07:30And I want to do a super low plunging swimsuit.
07:33I think it's going to be edgy and rocky, and that's the kind of girl I am.
07:38I want to go for something really bright and colorful and pretty,
07:41just because, to me, that's vacation.
07:44I'm thinking with my bathing suit, I'm going to be homage to Baywatch
07:47and do the super high cut, running down the beach type of bathing suit.
07:51It's time to go to mood.
07:53Well, I'm in the mood, so let's head over.
07:55Oh.
08:00All right, guys, we have 30 minutes.
08:02I need a pretty basic color.
08:08I decided that my girl is going to Nikon's Greece,
08:10so I'm going to create this column dress, but I'll make it modern.
08:14I'm pairing it with an asymmetrical bathing suit.
08:18Knowing that Isaac made a lot of comments about asymmetry
08:22and how he doesn't like it.
08:23What bothers me is that people default to asymmetry
08:28because it's the easiest way to make a dress fit.
08:31It's a risk, but I'm willing to take it.
08:35One of the best tricks of the trade when you're doing swimwear
08:38is this fold-over elastic.
08:40It's a lot easier to finish the edging.
08:42Three yards of this, and I don't know where everybody else is
08:45because they're going to need this stuff.
08:47Nothing's, like, speaking to me.
08:50I'm not sketching.
08:52I don't really necessarily know where I'm going with what I'm making,
08:55but I want this to look like she's out for the day,
08:58maybe on her yacht.
08:59This feels more elegant and special.
09:01OK, I see two and a half of that.
09:03I'm thinking a lace pant and a high-waist bathing suit bottom.
09:07Five minutes, guys, five minutes.
09:11Oh, yeah, that's enough.
09:12I like the stripes.
09:15And that's for the chiffon.
09:20Bye, guys.
09:21Bye, Simone.
09:22Aww.
09:28Wow, that does not get any less crazy.
09:39I'm starting to cut the pattern and getting everything in play,
09:42and I sew it together.
09:46It does not be expensive to me.
09:49I think once you have all the straps, it won't look like a,
09:51because right now you only have this.
09:53It looks like a tank top.
09:55I realized the other side is black.
09:57I just took the print out and started working with that right away.
10:02I think it is a risk for me to go in that route.
10:06However, the bathing suit that I'm making is very graphic,
10:09and it's not a typical baby suit.
10:16I love that blue sandu.
10:17Me too.
10:18Right now I'm draping the pants that will be made of lace.
10:21I don't normally drape.
10:23I have to make sure the fit on the pant is, like, impeccable.
10:25We don't want no crazy crotches happening on the runway.
10:28No camel toes, any toes.
10:30No, we're just going to leave the toes alone.
10:32Has anybody made a strength suit before?
10:34No.
10:35They're really a lot easier than you think.
10:38Oh, yeah.
10:38Yeah.
10:39They just stretch.
10:39You just cut out the shape pretty much, right?
10:41Yeah.
10:43How do you finish it?
10:44Well, I bought elastic that I fold over.
10:47I think the people that are going to have the most trouble
10:49with this challenge are those that are going to get frightened
10:52or terrified by the swimsuit.
10:53And that's just a portion of the challenge.
10:55How wide is it?
10:56I have a couple that I bought.
10:57I don't know which one I'm going to use.
10:59Do you have extra ones?
11:01Maybe.
11:02We'll see.
11:06Nobody ever offers me anything.
11:09They see a strong competitor.
11:11That's what it is.
11:15Coming up on Project Runway All-Stars.
11:17As long as we've got no nipples hanging out, then we're all good.
11:20Nothing fits.
11:21I can't save this dress.
11:23I couldn't deal with it.
11:24Inside, I'm ready to blow up.
11:26I'm about to finish the top.
11:34It's taking me forever to finish the swimsuit.
11:37And I have not even started making the resort wear yet.
11:40Robin, how do you hem a pleat?
11:42Good luck.
11:43That's how you hem it.
11:44Last week, no one went home, although I'm pretty certain Justin and I both should have.
11:51And I've been in the bottom before, so I'm not trying to let that creep up on me again.
11:55Yeah, I'm all about that YOLO life.
11:58Let me see the elastic.
11:59I don't have...
12:00I don't know if I have anything for you.
12:01Honestly.
12:02No, but let me see what it is for the future.
12:03Dimitri asked me for some elastic, but what I have left doesn't have a whole lot of stretch.
12:05I got this to use either this.
12:06Oh.
12:07I have a regular elastic, so I could get away with it, I think.
12:08Hi, designers.
12:09Hi.
12:10Hi.
12:11Good.
12:12So USA Today have offered an amazing prize for this challenge, so I want to introduce
12:28to you Alison Maxwell, who's the fashion editor there, and she's going to be co-mentoring
12:33with me today.
12:34This woman knows what she's talking about, and so I'm excited to hear her feedback.
12:37Hi, everyone.
12:38I can't wait to hear all about your girl and where she's traveling.
12:41All right, let's get started.
12:43She's going to Ibiza.
12:44I've never been there, so I have no idea what girls wear there.
12:48It's very chic, elegant, but there is that party atmosphere letting loose.
12:52And it's not all inclusive, it's very exclusive.
12:55I'll make her look exclusive, or maybe change her flight to somewhere else.
13:02I'm thinking the south of France.
13:04I like this, but I don't know if it's appropriate.
13:06Why could this not be appropriate?
13:08It's a swimsuit.
13:09It's going to show some flesh.
13:10Yeah, definitely.
13:11As long as we've got no nipples hanging out, then we're all good.
13:14It's such a fun tease with the little trim.
13:17I love it.
13:18Oh, thank you.
13:19So I was thinking Europe, Mechoness.
13:21I love the print.
13:22I mean, I love it, but looking around the room.
13:25Don't look around the room.
13:26This reminds me of how a Bond girl would dress coming out the water.
13:29Xana loves it, and I think Dimitri's look is absolutely hideous.
13:34Initially, I was thinking she's like on her yacht in the Maldives.
13:37She's kind of ballin' maybe.
13:38The lace will be here.
13:40Then I have this denim-y fabric.
13:43I do want you to remember to make it as chic as possible.
13:47Mm-hmm.
13:48You're putting denim with something that's quite luxe.
13:50Mm-hmm.
13:51I have two ideas going here.
13:53One is really long fringe or just a very simple textural breakup.
13:58Well, you know, fringe is great for dancing.
14:00Yeah.
14:01Not so good for swimming, though.
14:02No.
14:03I think this is really pretty.
14:04Well, it takes it away from caution tape.
14:06Right.
14:07Into a nice finished swimsuit.
14:11I remember reading in Marie Claire.
14:14Yeah.
14:15Go figure.
14:16Her worst nightmare would be to design swimwear.
14:18Oh.
14:19Yeah.
14:20It looks heavy.
14:21I don't hate it, though, for that reason.
14:24Okay.
14:25Just okay?
14:26Oh, that swimsuit.
14:30It might look a little bit boring.
14:32Really?
14:33It feels a little complicated to me, too, with the tie at the waist.
14:36It's a bit conservative for you.
14:38That's what it is.
14:39I think so.
14:40Yeah.
14:41Good luck.
14:42This is actually the print that I got today.
14:44Okay.
14:45And it's going to be really high cut, like Baywatch.
14:47Super sexy.
14:48Okay.
14:49I just pictured her in a really beautiful island.
14:51I think you have to really focus on the glamour aspect.
14:55Yeah.
14:56And I think also you want to be a little bit about ease and feeling relaxed.
15:00Perfect.
15:01All right.
15:02Good luck.
15:05Okay, all-stars.
15:06Remember, this is about a very elegant, fabulous trip.
15:11And the prize is pretty fabulous, too.
15:13Yes.
15:14Let's not forget that the winner here will appear in USA Today.
15:18So be sure to give it your all.
15:20Good luck.
15:24Bye.
15:29Does that mean that models are coming in soon?
15:31That would suck, because I don't have a swimsuit to fit on her.
15:33I'm so far from being at that place.
15:34Yeah.
15:35It's like, I can't even deal with that.
15:37Hi.
15:38Hi.
15:39How are you?
15:40Hi.
15:41We got a few things to try on.
15:43This is the first time that I'm fitting you.
15:45Okay, turn around.
15:46This is my first time working with my new model, and I have to learn her body type.
15:53Her torso is much longer than the average torso.
15:59So all the line is going to be like this.
16:03I put this together in two seconds.
16:05I'm going to go to the sewing room.
16:06I will be right, right back.
16:08How tall are you?
16:09I have 11.
16:10You are?
16:11Yeah.
16:12Okay.
16:13With a jumpsuit, if it's too tight, it's going to like hike and pull.
16:16Or if it's too long, it's going to be a really baggy crotch.
16:18So I'm kind of just like winging it at this point and hoping that it kind of just all lines up.
16:26Okay.
16:27Super big and stompy stompy.
16:29That is not great.
16:31All right, let's see.
16:33For me to make a bathing suit in about two minutes, it actually fits really good.
16:38I want to make a few adjustments to it, but I'm like, wow, I still got it.
16:42This looks good.
16:43Yeah.
16:44Yeah.
16:45Okay, cool.
16:46I love it.
16:47The swimsuit looks beautiful on her.
16:49And then I move on to my resort wear.
16:52I'm going to figure out this crazy thing.
16:57Because my model has completely different proportions from my previous model,
17:02it doesn't work for her body.
17:04I can't save this dress.
17:06So I'm going to make a completely new dress within two or three hours.
17:12Whatever.
17:13Don't worry about crunches or anything.
17:15It looks amazing.
17:16Bye, ladies.
17:17Oh my God.
17:18Where do I start?
17:19My model is huge.
17:21She's 6'1".
17:23And I couldn't fit the dress I made.
17:26So I just abandoned it because I couldn't deal with it.
17:29The emotions I'm going through, I can't describe.
17:32I mean, I still keep my face, but inside I'm ready to blow up.
17:3815 minutes, guys.
17:3915 minutes.
17:40I need more time.
17:41It's the end of the day and the only thing I need to do is the top of the outerwear,
17:50which hasn't been done because I ran out of the pleated fabric and I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do about that.
17:59Five minutes, guys.
18:00Five minutes.
18:01Five minutes.
18:02Oh my gosh.
18:03Oh my gosh.
18:04Oh my gosh.
18:05Oh my gosh.
18:06I sewed, I must have twisted my top before I sewed it on.
18:10I just sewed my top to my bottom and my zipper and I realized that I twisted the top portion of my jumpsuit before I attached it to the bottom.
18:20Is that the back attached to the front?
18:22The whole side is twisted and now I need to undo everything and redo it.
18:27I don't even know what to do right now.
18:29How does that even happen?
18:30Oh my gosh.
18:31Sleep deprivation, that's how it happens.
18:33Time wasn't allotted for like such a big mistake.
18:36Okay.
18:37Tomorrow morning, I just have so much work to do.
18:40Time is up.
18:41All right.
18:42Bye.
18:43Bye.
18:46Coming up on Project Runway All Stars.
18:48Sorry, I need to go sew it real quickly.
18:50Everyone's like last minute rushing around.
18:53Michelle's look looks messy.
18:56It's not cute.
19:07Is the steamer on?
19:09I don't know.
19:10How am I fix that side?
19:11I have to finish my jumpsuit and make a bathing suit.
19:15And I just, there's just no time for it.
19:19What's going on here?
19:21I need to finish my dress and a bikini bottom.
19:24What is this happening right now?
19:26I've never done a bikini bottom before, so I don't know how long this is going to take me.
19:34Everyone's like last minute rushing around.
19:37It's the time where we all make our mistakes.
19:39Ooh.
19:40That's not good.
19:41This hand sewing right now is blowing mine, like.
19:49The skirt that I made, it has two tiers.
19:52And the second tier, the outer layer, was pretty long.
19:56And since it's a resort wear, I wanted to keep it light.
20:00So I decided to make that tier shorter.
20:03And use the remaining fabric from that tier to make the top.
20:14Hi, meanies.
20:15Hi.
20:16I'm right behind you.
20:18I abandoned the dress that we tried yesterday, remember?
20:22So completely, and I made just another one in two hours.
20:25Let me just finish this.
20:28All right, let's come here in the mirror.
20:30Oh, my God.
20:31It looks actually pretty good.
20:33Oh, good.
20:34How is your fitting?
20:35It's like hard because a jumpsuit, you have to fit the whole thing.
20:40No, I know.
20:41The jumpsuits are hard.
20:42All right, Sydney.
20:43Let's go hit the Chihirque salon.
20:47Welcome back.
20:48Kind of a sleek bun to the back, but the bun I want to be kind of messy.
20:52Maybe just wet, wet, and a little bit of height in the back.
20:56I want to do like a crown braid.
20:58Here?
20:59On both sides?
21:00Perfect.
21:07My idea at the Mary Kay Design Studio today is just to go full on out with this crazy makeup.
21:12Accentuate the brows and give her lashes so long that she can't even open her eyes.
21:16I want to keep her nice and golden and glowy, but really natural.
21:22Maybe I'm thinking a little iced cocoa.
21:25Oh, that's beautiful.
21:26I just want to have a really clean, sun-kissed look.
21:29A little bit of apricot twist.
21:30Oh, yeah.
21:31It's really pretty.
21:32It's really pretty.
21:33I like it a lot.
21:37Here we go.
21:38Finish her suit.
21:39And the QVC accessory wall.
21:43I grabbed these amazing wedges.
21:45They have a cork sole and this cute little tassel.
21:48And I think what screams, like, high-end resort more than details like that.
21:52Ooh, how short did we go?
21:55Michelle's look looks messy.
21:57The way she draped things and where things are, like, tucked.
22:00It's...
22:01It's not cute.
22:03Ten minutes, guys.
22:04Ten minutes.
22:06Is that my makeup?
22:07Oh, no.
22:08Oh, my gosh.
22:09Well, I'll cover it with a necklace.
22:11Yeah.
22:12I love Samantha's jumpsuit, but her swimsuit is just not good.
22:19Gorgeous.
22:21Oh, my God, makeup.
22:23Okay.
22:24You look beautiful.
22:26Come on, girl.
22:27Walk and talk.
22:28Your butt looks awesome.
22:30Yeah.
22:31Yeah.
22:36Coming up on Project Runway All-Stars.
22:39She takes it off and I get flash dance.
22:41There was something not so flattering about the front of the bathing suit.
22:45It bordered on offensive.
22:47It's crazy.
22:48It was, like, instant camel toe.
22:49Oh, boy, Nigel!
22:50The winner of Project Runway All-Stars will be given the chance to create their own capsule
22:55collection with QVC and will appear on QVC's Spring Fashion Week.
23:00A fashion spread in Marie Claire and a position at the magazine as contributing editor for one year.
23:05Qi Hair Care will send the winner to stay in a luxury spa resort as a special guest at their international
23:11conference in Cancun, Mexico, plus product and staff for an entire year of runway shows.
23:17From Mary Kay, an entire year's worth of beauty products for their fashion shows and professional makeup artist
23:23services for their debut show.
23:25And from Brother Sewing and Embroidery, a complete sewing and crafting studio to launch their lines.
23:30And $150,000 in cash.
23:38Hi, designers.
23:39Hi.
23:40This week we joined forces with USA Today to challenge you to create elegant resort wear for a glamorous getaway.
23:48You also designed an attention-grabbing swimsuit from Lycra found in the bottom of a pool.
23:53Did you have fun?
23:54Oh, yeah.
23:55Well, let's meet our judges.
23:57First, co-founder and designer of luxury brand Marquesa, Georgina Chapman.
24:02Hi, designers.
24:04Next, one of the most iconic names in American fashion, Isaac Mizrahi.
24:10Eight.
24:11Eight.
24:12We're down to eight.
24:13And our guest this week is a world-renowned photographer.
24:16His New York studio has been in demand for almost 20 years.
24:20These days, he's in front of the camera just as often as he is behind it.
24:25Please welcome Nigel Barker.
24:27Woo!
24:28Eye designers.
24:31Easy on the eyes.
24:32Uh, yeah.
24:34So tonight, your models are revealing your swimsuits under your resort wear live on the runway.
24:41So what are we waiting for?
24:42Let's do it.
24:43Good luck.
24:52She looks amazing, and it's showing a little hint of the bathing suit, but not too much.
25:14The dress, and how it moves, and how it sparkles, I love my look.
25:22I love the swimsuit.
25:25It's loud, and yet at the same time, I think really modern.
25:29I know I'm taking a risk using the denim with the lace, and it's something that the judges
25:43would either love or hate.
25:44Get it, girl.
25:45But it stands out so much on the runway, and I feel like I might have a chance of winning.
25:50I love how it moves.
26:11Every single designer is looking at the dress saying, oh my god, that looks amazing.
26:16Uh huh.
26:33If I were ever to have a resort collection, this would be it.
26:36It would be laced, and lightweight, and just pretty, and oh, peekaboo, look what my bikini's
26:40on under it.
26:41Welcome to Brazil.
26:57It moves really beautifully.
26:58These fabrics are really luxe, and I really like the overall look.
27:02My look is totally elegant vacation look.
27:20But I just can't believe that I'm seeing so much booty on this runway.
27:37It's supposed to be high cut, but it might as well be a thong right now, and I just can't
27:41even believe it.
27:54For my dress, I'm showing a perfect example of asymmetry.
28:00And for my bathing suit, I'm showing a perfect example of asymmetry.
28:04Designers, thank you for a revealing and very sexy runway.
28:17Fabio, and Helen, you're both safe.
28:25Thank you very much.
28:28You can leave the runway.
28:30One of you is the winner this week, and one of you will be going home.
28:47Dimitri, let's start with you.
28:54I was inspired by Grace, and I wanted to give her something effortless and versatile.
28:59She can change her shoes and go to the beach, or put the heels on and go to the party.
29:04Let's see the big reveal.
29:09Okay, let's start with Isaac.
29:10I really love this.
29:11I think it's exemplary of asymmetry.
29:14It doesn't look random, it looks specific.
29:18So congratulations.
29:20I don't love silk charmeuse, but what saves it is the color.
29:24The color is ravishing.
29:26What I liked about the silk was actually the contradiction of the camo underneath.
29:31So you gave us an evening-esque look, and it really works on her.
29:35I like the asymmetry.
29:37I think you could have watched the hem.
29:39I think the swimsuit is really nice.
29:41It's original.
29:42This particular swimsuit, for me, the cut is perfect.
29:45It would make a great cover shot.
29:47Well done.
29:49Hi, Jay.
29:50I wanted to design a piece for her travel to Ibiza.
29:52It's a maxi dress that she could wear at night to dinner.
29:55And then going out, take the dress off, and go swimming in the dirty waters of Ibiza.
30:01Okay, let's see the swimsuit.
30:03I loved your dress when I walked down the runway.
30:08I thought it had such wonderful movement to it.
30:10But I like the bottom of your dress more than the top.
30:13It's just a touch too heavy.
30:15Somehow there's pleats that don't need to be there on the side, and there's this leather yoke that sort of ruins it.
30:20And then when she revealed this bathing suit, I thought, well, there's another crazy moment that he had, you know?
30:26I just don't understand the print next to that degradé stripe.
30:30As far as the swimsuit is concerned, you know, the bottom, I think, is a little too high.
30:33It's hard, that line, when it cuts right on the stomach button.
30:36The fabric reminds me of something I'd put my toddler boy in.
30:41Mm.
30:42Hi, Sam.
30:43When I thought of resort wear and being up at the pool and, like, seeing the water and the water's always so blue, that's the first thing you think about,
30:49I thought to do, like, a wide leg pant, a one piece for traveling purposes, like, just throwing your swimsuit with it.
30:54Time for the big reveal, Sam. Let's see your swimsuit.
30:58I love a jumpsuit, and I always have one in resort.
31:03It tells a story, it has attitude, so well done for thinking that thought.
31:08And then she takes it off, and I get flashdance, and I'm lost, I have to be honest.
31:13I just got, like, bad 80s who's the boss flashback.
31:17Samantha.
31:18Exactly.
31:20I just think there are, like, taste choices here on the bathing suit, whereas, like, on the jumpsuit, you hit a home run.
31:26I like the color so much, but there was something not so flattering about the front of the jumpsuit.
31:32It sagged in a funny way that I think really wrecked some of the effect of the very good jumpsuit.
31:39All right, Justin.
31:40For this resort wear, I'm thinking about going to the south of France, and I just made a really straightforward envelope dress.
31:49And the big reveal.
31:50Here is an example of a really cohesive, classy look.
31:57I really understand this woman.
31:59I want to be this woman.
32:00Wow, Justin, this is great.
32:03There was a chastity to her in a kind of Grecian goddess sort of way.
32:08And also, darling, it's a black swimsuit.
32:11It looks so fresh.
32:12I adore it.
32:13Congratulations.
32:14The back is amazing.
32:15I would literally photograph this from the back.
32:18Yeah.
32:19Looking over her shoulder, and it would sell.
32:20Love your choice of fabric.
32:22And that bathing suit is just pretty perfect.
32:25Okay, Michelle.
32:26She's a Miami girl, and she's going from poolside and throwing on this frock on top, climbing into her convertible, and going dancing.
32:37Okay.
32:38And your big reveal.
32:40I love the swimsuit, because I think it's a textile layered on top of another textile.
32:45Is that right?
32:46The print I have is this Charlie Brown, zigzag, yellow and black.
32:50And so I actually found an elastic that I could stack over top to change the pattern up.
32:54I think it's sort of the best swimsuit we've seen today, really.
32:57I love that you didn't take this triangle up too high, and the straps started really low.
33:02I thought that was really fresh.
33:03What is that little detail in the front?
33:05It's the same elastic just right through here.
33:08It really contours the body nicely.
33:10It pulls the waist in.
33:12However, in the dress, I feel like it did everything a woman doesn't want to happen to their body.
33:17The pleats, or whatever they were, the way it was caught, just simply looked to me as if she had caught it in her underwear.
33:23Oh, boy, Nigel!
33:25Ah!
33:26But wow, what a swimsuit.
33:27Thank you, Michelle.
33:29Sanji.
33:30When I think of resort, I just think of something really kind of easy and relaxed.
33:34Kind of keep it semi-sexy, but still functional and fun.
33:37And let's see your reveal.
33:42All right, I'll start with your pajama outfit.
33:45I love the placement of your lace.
33:47That's so important when you have a fabric like that.
33:50And those pants, oh my God, those pants are insanely beautiful.
33:54I know you love the pants, Isaac, but for me, they just weren't long enough.
33:57It seemed to shorten her.
33:59What I didn't necessarily love was the trimming, this big panel of what it was, a taffeta.
34:06Denim, actually.
34:07Oh, it's denim.
34:08Mm-hmm.
34:09Had you just shown us the pants with the swimsuit?
34:13Because the top of the pajama thing wasn't my favorite part of this.
34:16Mm-hmm.
34:17But like, when was the last time you saw a bandeau that actually flattered a woman's anatomy?
34:21No, it's so good.
34:22I'm sitting here wondering why they don't make strapless bras in the silhouette.
34:25It's the most genius thing ever.
34:27I can really see both these things translating into such an interesting collection.
34:33Thank you, designers.
34:34The judges and I are going to deliberate and we'll call you back.
34:43Oh, hey.
34:44Hey, girls.
34:45So.
34:46And the ferry.
34:48You're on the bottom.
34:49You're on the bottom.
34:50You're on the top.
34:51You're on the top.
34:52You're on the top.
34:53You're on the top.
34:54I'm on the bottom.
34:55Oh, really?
34:56They either loved a swimsuit or they loved a dress.
34:59Yeah.
35:00So it was the most kind of positive critique overall.
35:04It's a lot of skin on the runway.
35:06But not in a gratuitous way.
35:08I was proud of them.
35:09No, I thought it was handled very, very well.
35:10Let's talk about the most successful designs.
35:13Loved Sanji.
35:14And I see those clothes and there's something fresh and modern and exciting that I want to see her collection.
35:18And the swimsuit was superb and really one of the most iconic pieces.
35:22Something that no one else has really done and it already looked brilliant.
35:25There was something about the usage of that fabric around the middle.
35:28This was awkward as she turned.
35:30There were a few bad angles.
35:35Can I just bring up Justin?
35:36I loved the whole blue, black thing.
35:38It felt fresh to me.
35:39Very.
35:40You know?
35:41Yeah.
35:42It was very elevated, the whole look.
35:43The whole thing.
35:44It was sexy, yet it was chic and covered up.
35:47I just think he had the wonderful balance there.
35:49I love how he said, I went for a simple envelope dress, even though it looked like there was nothing simple about that.
35:55No.
35:56No.
35:57No.
35:58Should we talk about Dimitri?
36:02Dimitri knocked it out of the park this week.
36:05And here we are constantly warning them against asymmetrical hemlines.
36:09Right.
36:10And he took it and he ran with it.
36:12When he revealed the camo swimsuit, it was wrong because it had nothing to do with sort of the grease or the look, but it worked so well.
36:19And cohesive.
36:20Cohesive.
36:21Very cohesive.
36:22Really cohesive.
36:25So do we have a winner?
36:28Okay, let's move on to our lowest scoring looks.
36:31Should we start with Michelle?
36:33Michelle's hard for me because I do think that was the best, one of the best swimsuits.
36:36The swimsuit is unbelievably good.
36:38I thought the dress was, what was she even thinking?
36:42You mean the pleats in the front?
36:44Yeah, what was that?
36:45Again, like a random weirdness.
36:47I think you have to question, you know, if she doesn't get that that's wrong and she sends it down like that, then what on earth is going on?
36:56So let's talk about Jay.
36:58I liked the dress actually, I liked the way it flowed, I liked the way it looked, I thought it was beautiful.
37:03But then he adds this like leather yoke that just makes the whole thing like sort of sit in this bad way.
37:09So heavy handed.
37:10I, you know, like the shock value of the swimsuit being different, but it didn't really work.
37:15It had a high waist and then all the black across the boob.
37:17And the bottoms were so unflattering.
37:22Let's talk about Sam.
37:23I did think the jumpsuit had a lot of merit. You can see it walking down Miami Beach.
37:28And then a neon 80's high legged bathing suit.
37:32I don't understand who her woman is or who the muses there.
37:35No.
37:36The crotch.
37:37The crotch.
37:38No.
37:39Just the way the fabrics cut, I mean just the worst lines were in the worst places.
37:42Yes.
37:43So it was like instant camel toe when there isn't any need for it.
37:45Actually, I wasn't getting camel toe, I was getting moose knuckle, frankly.
37:50What?
37:51I don't even know what that is.
37:52But you didn't see it?
37:54Oh, moose knuckle.
37:56Yeah.
37:57You're right.
38:00I think we know who we're sending home.
38:02I think so.
38:04Yeah.
38:05Let's bring them out.
38:09Designers, one of you will be in USA Today tomorrow with your winning look.
38:15And someone else will be eliminated tonight.
38:24Designers, let's find out the results.
38:28Sanji, you're safe.
38:30See you next week.
38:32Thank you guys.
38:35Justin.
38:37Dimitri.
38:38One of you will be in USA Today tomorrow with your winning look.
38:45And that designer is...
38:49Justin.
38:54Come back, kid.
38:56Congratulations, Justin.
38:58And Dimitri, you just need to find that extra something to score the win.
39:02Congratulations, boys.
39:04I think the fact that I won is a big deal because millions of people beat USA Today.
39:11It's definitely a fantastic opportunity to put a name out there.
39:16And the free vacation, I'll take that.
39:20Did you win?
39:22Yay!
39:23Good job.
39:24I think we all knew it.
39:25Good job.
39:27Runner up again.
39:31And now to the lowest scoring designs.
39:34Michelle, you had a low score, but you are safe.
39:38Thank you, sweetheart.
39:39You can leave the runway.
39:40And that leaves Sam and Jay.
39:46Sam, although we like the idea of a jumpsuit for resort wear, yours was ill-fitting.
39:52And when it came off, it revealed a swimsuit that looked really uncomfortable and it bordered on offensive.
39:57Sorry.
39:59Jay, we like the way your dress flowed, but you just tried to incorporate too much into your design.
40:06You need to learn that sometimes less is more.
40:10Sam and Jay, you are both super talented designers, but as you know, only one of you can stay.
40:15The designer eliminated tonight is...
40:28Sam.
40:30That means you stay in the competition, Jay.
40:33You can leave the runway.
40:41Sam, a huge thanks for joining us here on All Stars.
40:44Thank you so much.
40:45I appreciate it.
40:47We wish you all the best.
40:48Now it's time to leave the runway.
40:52Thank you so much.
40:53You're wonderful and beautiful.
40:55Take care.
40:56Bye, darling.
40:57I definitely think it was a great experience, and I'm happy to have been here.
41:00I wish that it ended differently.
41:02Aw, Sam.
41:04Okay.
41:05Aw, I can't look at her.
41:07Give me a hug.
41:08It's gonna be all right.
41:09I'm gonna go home, and I'm gonna continue to work on my line, and it's just gonna get better.
41:16Next, on Project Runway All Stars.
41:17This is the avant-garde challenge.
41:18Finally.
41:19$100 each, if one of you volunteers to sketch in the Shark Tank.
41:34Oh, what did I get myself into?
41:42Helen, are you okay?
41:43You just have a one.
41:45It's a matter of opinion.
41:46You can't be so arrogant.
41:47No, I'm not being arrogant.
41:49I'm just being direct.
41:50The silhouette is just off.
41:52Sort of getting more Ziggy Stada.
41:53I feel like you're giving me attitude.
41:55I feel like she's always looking at me with her lips to the side.
41:58Resting bitch face.
42:04agora.
42:05We're gonna get you the angle.
42:06We're gonna go in theora part in her voice.
42:07Man 2's got to be amazing.
42:08Your
42:09derecho is like a big camera.
42:10
42:15How is this?
42:17There is amazing.
42:20You monk.
42:21You're passing the cosa.
42:22I'm not being apertory.
42:23It's aミ Ми pounder.
42:24I'm sorry.
42:26You're a follower that's not even if you're pulling up.
42:27I don't get past.
42:28I'm just being Dazu.
42:29I'm a jerk.
42:30I don't even know when you're putting a hotel.
42:31You're going to stay.
42:32I'm not going to stay.
42:33I'm not asking all the zombies.
