03:35Welcome to Beyond the Tape.
03:51I'm your host, Mark Boussaint.
03:52Welcome to our viewers across Trinidad and Tobago, our global viewers, and of course, our
03:58brothers and sisters in the eye of Grenada.
04:00And, you know, it's been at least almost 48 hours since Sati Karim was taken outside her home
04:12at Bassey Street in Valsane.
04:14And we're employing anybody with information about her whereabouts to contact the nearest
04:20police station.
04:22And you would remember that she was, the vehicle that she was in with another relative and her
04:28son was blocked, and they were ordered out of the vehicle, robbed of cash and valuables,
04:34at least the male relative, adult relative.
04:36And then they drove off with her vehicle and another vehicle that came and blocked their
04:44path.
04:45And they later recovered the vehicle that she was taken in, not a couple hours later.
04:51But the whereabouts of Mrs. Karim still remains, you know, elusive to police officers.
04:59And we are hopeful that in the coming hours, even, that she will be released safely to her
05:05family.
05:07You know, and while we ponder over that kidnapping, there was the unfortunate murder last night of
05:1420-year-old Kwesi, King of Upper Kokiri Terrace.
05:19He was shot around 9.30 last night, pushing the murder counter to 212.
05:25It's certainly a really sad way for a young man to lose his life, you know, at such a very
05:30young age.
05:32And of course, today with us is Corporal Derek Shabodyman from the St. James Police Youth Club.
05:39Founder.
05:40How are you?
05:41Well, Superintendent Basand, I'm honored.
05:45I'm honored and it's unfortunate to start, you know, with those negative news.
05:49But, you know, that's just how things are in Trinidad.
05:52And we need to use this program to educate and keep people informed and impress upon them
05:58to provide good intel so that, you know, we can bring this woman back home to her husband
06:04and her children, you know, and we should leave no stone untold.
06:07And I know that the anti-kidnapping squad, you know, is already on the ground in showing
06:13that, you know, every video, every camera, somebody who might be able to access.
06:20And we trust God that, you know, with good prayers that she returns safely back to her son
06:27and her husband.
06:28Very unfortunate.
06:28Yeah, and you raise a salient point because we talked yesterday about anybody with, you
06:35know, if you have CCTV cameras in and around that area and, you know, footage that might
06:41be able to assist the police, of course, please do not hesitate to reach out to the police
06:45because I guess you want to be your neighbor's keeper.
06:48So if people in that area happen to have video footage of the actual kidnapping, please share
06:53it with the police so that they can assist them in perhaps identifying some of these culprits
06:58and in so doing, you know, might be able to get information from other persons who might
07:03have seen these persons, whether or not they might have been masked, but I guess their
07:08physique or their physical stature or how they have built persons or how their mannerisms
07:13or how they move around, persons are able to identify persons like that as well.
07:17But certainly, and there's no need to send anything viral, you know, you go straight
07:21to the police, you go straight to the anti-kidnapping unit and provide them that information.
07:25They have the technology, you know, they have all the state-of-the-art equipment that we
07:30will be able to, you know, in terms of addressing the physical, the features of the person and
07:36much more.
07:37You know, I thank God that we still have a lot of law-abiding people in this country and
07:44they certainly support the police service and we embrace them, we thank them and we
07:49trust that situation.
07:50You know, when you put your foot in somebody, a mother being kidnapped, broad daylight in
07:56the presence of a husband and a son, it is not a good thing.
08:00I mean, they say no kidnapping at all is good, but the brazeness of these elements, we have
08:05to make a statement.
08:06We have to let them know that this country is not for sale.
08:09I would not allow you, you know, to have people tortured and traumatized like that.
08:15I could imagine what our son is going through, what the father is going through, waiting for
08:20his call.
08:21You know, trust him that somebody could and say yes, we found out all is well.
08:25You know, you want to start with being an eternal optimist, of course, and trust that
08:30the wife come back safely.
08:32And our prayers are with the family and we trust that at the end of the day, you know,
08:37there is a smile and there is a silver lining at the end of this dark cloud.
08:41Yeah, you made a statement to me when I introduced those two grim things that happened and you
08:47said this is how it is in Trinidad, but this is how we do not want it to be in Trinidad.
08:51And by virtue of your powerful words and others who are listening to this program, we want
08:59to make Trinidad a completely different place, a safer place.
09:04And the Minister of Homeland Security, of course, speaking about several security measures,
09:10Mr. Alexander, yesterday speaking on TV6's morning edition, said that in the coming weeks,
09:16persons are going to see a number of things visible to ensure that persons feel safer in Trinidad and Tobago.
09:24And, of course, we are hopeful and optimistic that it's a very tall order for the police, of course.
09:31And, of course, as we know, Mr. Shabody, police cannot do this on their own.
09:36We need the assistance of the communities across Trinidad and Tobago.
09:40We need you all to be part of that change that we want to see.
09:45That's right. Fighting crime is a multi-pound approach.
09:48No one can pat themselves on the back and say, you know, require a superman and a batman in 2025.
09:54It has to be a collective effort.
09:56In fact, 90 percent of the crimes that has been addressed that has a success story, it has to do with intel.
10:02It has to do with the citizenry. It has to do with the police. It has to do with confidentiality.
10:07You know, the elements and characteristics that will ensure that people come on board and will continue to assist the police in this ongoing fight.
10:15And the fight is no time to retreat.
10:17You know, we have accepted the fight. We will take it to them.
10:21And, you know, with having God on our side, and that's the important part,
10:25because there's a component of fighting crime that speaks to wisdom, knowledge and understanding.
10:31Sometimes you have to move the textbook away. You have to move the act.
10:34And sometimes you have to say, God, I need your help with this one.
10:38And with all God being in the center of fighting crime, wishful thinking.
10:43So we have to continue to thank God for, you know, giving us the wisdom, the knowledge.
10:47Sometimes it's like that, something spark.
10:50Yeah.
10:51And they say, oh, how? Somebody come and say, oh, I want to talk to you for two minutes, please.
10:54You know, all that, it has to do with God and working and ensuring that the enemy doesn't take hold of our committees.
11:02And we stand firm together with this program.
11:04Every day for one hour, we educate, we inform, we appeal to people that come on board.
11:10You know, we encourage people to play a greater role in terms of this fight.
11:16And we are grateful for this one hour. This one hour is so important.
11:19It could save a life. It could save, it could help somebody looking on.
11:23Say, okay, I am interested. I'm more informed.
11:28And therefore, I would now make myself available to be part of this proactive approach to crime fighting.
11:33And it must be saluted.
11:35Yes.
11:36All right, we're going to take a quick look now at our headlines.
12:05So those are some of the headlines over the last 24 hours.
12:17And, of course, the last thing you saw there is Uzi.
12:22And we want to commend the officers of Central Task Force and Central Division,
12:29where in the Freeport Criminal Investigations Department conducted an intelligence-led operation
12:35where they went to an area of Carlson Field where they observed a man holding a firearm.
12:41Upon looking in the direction of the officers of the suspect, he dropped the object and fled into nearby bushes.
12:48But despite the chase, the suspect escaped.
12:52However, officers were able to recover this black mini Uzi submachine gun
12:58fitted with a magazine containing two rungs of 9mm ammunition.
13:02And, of course, you know that area has also been very infamous over the last couple of weeks or months, rather,
13:08for shootings and homicides.
13:11So that certainly is some good work by the police there.
13:14One gun less is one gun less in terms of a child being killed, a family being targeted.
13:21You follow?
13:22And we have to continue to appeal the persons that the gun that you know and you're aware of,
13:29you have knowledge of, been hidden somewhere, call the police, inform the officers.
13:33There is no need to give your name.
13:35I think it will be helpful that we get these guns out of the committee, out of the hands of the criminal element,
13:41so that they would not, you know, utilize that type of power upon those who are, unfortunately,
13:48at the mercy, gunless.
13:50And we will be able to beg and trust and hopeful that God continue to clean and bring our community
13:57to where it's supposed to be, a safe space where we can play and enjoy each other's company.
14:02Certainly.
14:03Certainly.
14:04And last night, of course, there was an unfortunate accident near the central bank towers.
14:10They're heading on to the vicinity of the South Key Pairs.
14:14A pedestrian was struck, and I believe he was hurt badly.
14:18I'm not certain if he passed, but, of course, he's lying there rather motionless.
14:25And police, you know, continuing inquiries into that particular incident as well.
14:32Yeah, we appeal to people to drive at a pace where sometimes somebody flashed across,
14:37you could match brakes.
14:38Yeah.
14:39You know, and speed continued to be the 90% problem in terms of this country.
14:45You know, even people who may be using the highway.
14:49Crossing the streets.
14:49That's right.
14:50Yes, yes, crossing the streets.
14:51Yeah, it's imperative that.
14:52And sometimes, like, you see the gentleman in black, you don't even make them out.
14:56In certain colors, it's camouflage.
14:58You know, and you really have to take your time and make sure the vehicle comes to a stop.
15:04You know, people have ice it off, walk over, and people are not even using it.
15:09They're still taking rest.
15:10It was built to guarantee a safety, and they're still running across.
15:14I say, wow.
15:15You know, so you're building things to people to ensure their safety, and they're not utilizing it.
15:20That's very unfortunate.
15:21So we appeal to people, you know, your life is important.
15:25It's actually, you know, and as you traverse and as you make your way from,
15:29make sure that safety is also the cornerstone,
15:32because you have a family home, and they're looking forward to meeting them at home.
15:36Yes, certainly.

18:54A message from the TTPS.
18:56Welcome back to Beyond the Tape.
19:10I'm your host, Mark Bassan, joined today by Corporal Derek Chabody of the St. James Police Youth Club and founder.
19:17And we are talking about the good work a police officer did in Central Trinidad.
19:23But there was also an exercise over the last three days.
19:27We want to take a look at this video of a drug eradication exercise.
19:31Let's go.
19:31Let's go.
19:31Let's go.
19:31Let's go.
19:31Let's go.
19:33Let's go.
19:35Let's go.
19:36Let's go.
19:37Let's go.
19:39Let's go.
19:40Let's go.
19:41Let's go.
19:42Let's go.
19:43Let's go.
19:44Let's go.
19:45Let's go.
19:46Let's go.
19:47Let's go.
19:48All right.
19:48Let's go.
19:49Let's go.
19:50g
20:03.
20:04.
20:05A great deal.
20:08A great deal.
20:13No one was arrested. This exercise was incident-free.
20:18Right, so you see the Trinidad and the Tobago Police Service,
20:44good work by the police officers of the Tobago Division,
20:47namely the Tobago Divisional Task Force,
20:50the police K-9 unit with the able assistance
20:53of members of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment.
20:57Combine effort again. Combine effort,
21:00and that is where they hit them the most.
21:02You target, you know, where they're being funded,
21:05because they sell the weed, they make the money,
21:07they go on to buy the gun, and therefore you have to disrupt,
21:10they have to shut it down, and therefore you have to commend
21:13Assistant Commissioner Cibero and his team.
21:16So it's not just the task force alone.
21:19You see the combined effort, and of course you have to look at the intelligence.
21:23People would have informed the police,
21:25listen, so-and-so go to Tobago, and I need you all to come and address that.
21:30And it is, you make Tobago a safer place by reaching out the police and ensuring that they respond.
21:37So I want to salute Mr. Cibero and the first respondents and all the different units,
21:42together with the Trinidad-Bago Regiment Defence Force.
21:45It shows that collectively we can do much more than as a single unit, and they must be commended for that.
21:52Yes, certainly. And I know that, you know, over the last few weeks we've spoken about school violence,
21:58and I think it's a topic also very near and dear to your heart.
22:03And I know you have some thoughts you'd like to share perhaps as we go forward with this situation
22:10where students found, you know, culpable of any violent behaviour and they are charged face expulsion from schools.
22:19And then there's also that whole idea of that safety net in schools and whether or not the contention is
22:27if police officers also need to be in schools.
22:31Well, as I said before, and I will continue to because it has been a success mantra for me,
22:37the method that we use has been successful, so I can only use and recommend what has been successful for me.
22:43The multi-power approach is excellent. And I want to appeal to parents.
22:48When you see girls fighting and you have a daughter, you need to sit down and say,
22:54I want to have a discussion with you. Put the video on. Ask them if that behaviour is acceptable.
23:00You know, remind them that there should not be, there need to be a discussion first with the home.
23:06Every mother, every family should have pulled that video and say,
23:10I need to have a talk with my teenage daughter. I need to have a talk with my teenage son.
23:14That discussion is important.
23:16Secondly, I think having police officers in schools is a good thing because this is what we are doing now.
23:24However, sometimes you will find one officer attached to three schools, you know,
23:29so that community policing is already doing good work on the ground with schools.
23:33They are networking with the social worker. They are networking with the principal.
23:37If you go south, you will see excellent work being done.
23:40Central, Tobago, Western Division, of course, we are leading in one of the best initiatives. You follow?
23:47The point is that we can now look at what is working and expand it. There is no need to reinvent the wheel.
23:54So if Western Division has an excellent initiative where police officers are going to school,
24:00let's bring more officers on board, let's expand it, let's train it and make sure the officers work in concert with other stakeholders,
24:07trauma experts, psychologists, you know, the dean, a number of different people, so they won't feel abandoned.
24:15And therefore the officers should not be seen as somebody only promoting law enforcement.
24:20You have policemen after they are going to school, they are teaching basketball, football, swimming.
24:25They are doing remedial class. So there is connectivity taking place with the students.
24:29Well, I figure that kind of unison is definitely needed going forward as we try to think outside of the box when it comes to trying to tackle those kinds of problems
24:39that has been very, very, you know, commonplace now in the schools and in the school environment rather than the time when you and I went to school.
24:48That's right.
24:49But I think we have a caller on the line. Caller, good evening. Good evening, caller.
24:56Caller? I think the caller might have. Caller, are you there? Good evening, caller. Hello, caller.
25:08All right. I'm hearing the caller, but I don't think that the caller is hearing us.
25:13So, yeah, you were talking about that, that unison and the NIFA.
25:18Thank you. Thank you.
25:20Okay. Hello, good day, caller.
25:22Yeah, good afternoon.
25:23Good afternoon, sir. Go ahead. You're live.
25:25Good afternoon.
25:27I'm not hearing you.
25:29Yes, go ahead. We're hearing you. You go ahead.
25:32I am not hearing anyone. Good afternoon.
25:35Yes, go ahead. Lower your TV, sir.
25:37Hello.
25:38All right. So, it doesn't seem like the caller is hearing us, but we are hearing you, caller.
25:44So, yeah, you were talking about, you know, that unison and it's extremely important going forward that we have that kind of engagement.
25:54Thank you, sir.
26:06Anyhow, this is the third time I'm calling this program on the same matter.
26:13And I'm just asking myself, when should I decide not to pursue a matter?
26:19When should the public come to that point, not to pursue a matter?
26:23I'll tell you what the matter is.
26:24I'll tell you what the matter is.
26:25I'll tell you what the matter is.
26:26I have purchased my vehicle by a garage.
26:32I wouldn't call a name or anything like that.
26:35And the owner of the garage took 56 parts from my vehicle, totaling $178,000.
26:47It was a BMW.
26:49And I made a report to the police station.
26:53I have, he, the garage owner, he has also made a report to the police station.
27:00And in his report, he said that the part was stolen because he had a worker who had a stealing problem.
27:08I don't know what that has to do with me.
27:10Yet, I have, I have called everybody.
27:14I have sent messages to the last Minister of National Security, the two police commissioners, to the present Army Commissioner Homeland.
27:23And there's not a word.
27:25And this guy, he has a report stating that he saw the part, that the part was stolen by him.
27:31And I can't get no justice whatsoever.
27:34Two years now, I am pursuing this.
27:37I'm asking myself, when should I stop, should I stop at a certain time?
27:42How do I get justice in a situation like this?
27:45All right, Kuala, I hope you leave your number.
27:49And of course, Corporal Shabadi will contact you.
27:53And, you know, he will get a chance to respond after this short break.
27:57Stay with us.

31:06A message from the counter-trafficking unit
31:08Of the Ministry of National Security
31:11Welcome back to Beyond the Tape
31:23I'm your host Mark Bassan
31:24Joined today by Corporal Derek Shabody
31:26Founder of the St. James Police Youth Club
31:29And I know you want to respond to the last caller
31:31Very unprofessional
31:32Very unprofessional
31:34Somebody brings a vehicle
31:35And you providing a service
31:38And you start to make excuses about
31:40Your worker being
31:41Stealing the parts
31:44That is totally unacceptable
31:47And has nothing to do with you or me
31:48Totally unacceptable
31:48I would want to advise that gentleman
31:51Not only to call me
31:52But also to seek legal advice
31:53You know what I mean
31:55They say the U.S.
31:55You would have tried
31:56The police would have tried
31:57But you need to go to a lawyer
31:59And seek legal advice
32:00And probably bring that into a civil matter
32:04Because this cannot be
32:05You cannot bring your vehicle
32:07Seeking a particular service
32:09And when I come inquiring about this service
32:12You come making excuses
32:13That you are always involved with your workers
32:15That has nothing
32:16In fact your workers
32:17Must be properly well vetted
32:19And therefore your workers
32:20Must be made to pay
32:22In terms of reimbursement
32:24For anything that is stolen
32:25Put your worker before the court
32:28Charge your worker
32:29Tell your worker
32:30If you do not pay back the gentleman
32:31Then you know
32:32I will report the matter
32:33And then you are left inconvenienced
32:35Because the vehicle that you dropped there
32:36To get repaired
32:37Is now even in a worse state
32:39Yes
32:39Parts are stolen
32:41And you have no recourse
32:42You are inconvenienced
32:44If you needed your vehicle
32:45Now you have to go and travel perhaps
32:47Or buy a new vehicle
32:49As the case may be
32:50If you have money
32:51If you can afford it
32:52Yeah
32:52I have many bad actors like that
32:54Posing as mechanic
32:56Posing as straight down painter
32:57Posing as smart men
32:59You know
33:00On the mining
33:01And we have to be very careful
33:02You have to go and get
33:03Something
33:03A second opinion
33:05Yes
33:06This is excellent
33:07Just jumping out
33:08And going to mechanic
33:09Is not the best
33:10It is always good to ask
33:11Inquire
33:12And it is very unfortunate
33:13What a gentleman going to
33:14And I am sure
33:14A few more people well
33:16Probably nodding it
33:17And saying wow
33:18I went through that as well
33:19It is very unfortunate
33:20So the gentleman
33:21Use secret legal advice
33:23And if you can leave me
33:24Your number
33:24You can call me at
33:25296-1218
33:27I will be able to put you
33:28On to some officers
33:29Who will be able to guide you
33:31And probably provide
33:32A good way
33:33Counsel
33:33In terms of our way forward
33:35Well as a first time caller
33:37We are so sorry
33:38That you had to call us
33:38About this situation
33:40But your good self
33:42I am hopeful
33:43And optimistic
33:44That you will be
33:44Given the proper guidance
33:46And assistance
33:47Going forward
33:48So that this matter
33:49Can be resolved
33:50In the shortest possible time
33:51Seeing that
33:52It has always been
33:52What?
33:53Two years now
33:54Since this
33:54That he has been facing
33:56This situation
33:57Yes
33:58Unfortunately
33:59Untenable
33:59Untenable
34:00To say the least
34:01You know
34:02All right
34:03So we have
34:05An announcement
34:06As it deals with
34:07Trinidad and Tobago
34:08Police Service
34:09Town meeting
34:11And that meeting
34:13Is coming up
34:13Guess what?
34:15Tomorrow
34:15At 6pm
34:17At the
34:18Maraval
34:19Community
34:20Centre
34:21So all those
34:22Persons
34:23Who live
34:23In that area
34:24And environs
34:25You are asked
34:27To come out
34:27And have an interaction
34:29With the police officers
34:31Of that area
34:32Give them an idea
34:34Of some of your concerns
34:35Give them an idea
34:37Of things you think
34:38You all can do
34:40The police that is
34:41To improve
34:42On what they are doing
34:44Now in the area
34:45And give some
34:46Viable suggestions
34:48So that
34:49You know
34:50The police officers
34:51Can now take away
34:52What they learned
34:52From you
34:53And then
34:54You know
34:55Try to
34:56Better the service
34:57That they give to you
34:58That's right
34:58And this is an initiative
35:00That we are proud of
35:01Where members of the public
35:02Come
35:03And the police officers
35:04They listen
35:04You know
35:06They make notes
35:06You know
35:07And then they respond
35:08It is an absolutely
35:10Excellent atmosphere
35:11It is not confrontational
35:12It is about
35:13Members of the public
35:14Saying listen
35:15I've been going
35:16Probably
35:16I can invite a gentleman
35:18You know
35:19And that is probably
35:20An excellent platform
35:21Yes
35:21To share
35:22I don't know
35:23What the vision
35:23But I know that
35:25Senior superintendent
35:25Williams
35:26Who heads
35:26Western division
35:28Excellent officer
35:29Along with inspector
35:30Is any family to yours
35:32No he's not
35:32But I know him
35:34Officer and a gentleman
35:35Yes
35:35Very nice
35:36But I know that
35:37Western division
35:38Has an excellent relationship
35:40In terms of
35:40Members of the
35:41You always have a good turn out
35:42People look for
35:43Because you see
35:44There are talk shop
35:44People
35:45And sometimes
35:47When you hear
35:47Second and third
35:48Tomiton
35:49People looking for
35:50Results oriented
35:50What has been done
35:51What steps
35:52Has been taken
35:53What programs
35:54Has been put in place
35:55And two
35:56The station council
35:59Also provides
36:00Members of the public
36:02To sit with the police
36:03And also work out
36:04Sometimes
36:05I like to talk about
36:06Fighting crime
36:07Police
36:08Don't fight
36:09You know
36:09What is the crime plan
36:10I do believe
36:11In other people
36:11That we should have
36:12A plan against crime
36:13And not a crime plan
36:15Right
36:15And therefore
36:16It is in that
36:17Good taste
36:17That we let the public
36:19Know that they are
36:19Part and parcel
36:20Of the solution
36:21But we do not
36:22Put them in harm's way
36:23And that Tomiton
36:24We want to appeal
36:25To all those in Maraval
36:26And sometimes
36:27In Maraval
36:28They want to come
36:29And it's an opportunity
36:30An excellent opportunity
36:31The officer would not
36:32Say no
36:33It's an excellent platform
36:34And we want to
36:35Salute
36:36The organizers
36:37Mr. Williams
36:39And his team
36:40For ensuring
36:41That every division
36:42Have a Tomiton
36:44Excellent initiative
36:45Yes so again
36:46A reminder
36:47Tomorrow
36:48At the Maraval
36:49Community Center
36:50From 6pm
36:52Police officers
36:53Are asking
36:53You know
36:54Persons from that
36:55Area and environment
36:56To come out
36:56Render their opinions
36:58Their thoughts
36:59Their ideas
37:01Whatever it might be
37:02To improve the safety
37:03And security
37:05Of where you live
37:06And your community
37:07Because I think
37:08That engagement
37:08Is extremely important
37:10Because then
37:11The police officers
37:12Get feedback
37:13From those
37:15That live in the area
37:15Of some of the things
37:16That they might not
37:16Have even been aware of
37:18So when you go there
37:19And you raise
37:20Some of these concerns
37:21That they are not aware of
37:22Then they are able
37:23To act in some
37:24Form or fashion
37:25Yeah and more than that
37:27You know when people come
37:29We want to make sure
37:30That people
37:30When they voice their opinion
37:32They are not putting
37:33Themselves at risk
37:33And therefore
37:34They might be stopped
37:35The officer might come to them
37:36Have a chat with them privately
37:38Because of the nature
37:39And the sensitivity
37:40Of what they may be sharing
37:42It may be required
37:43This officer will talk to you now
37:45You know you may have
37:46CID on board
37:47You may have
37:47The inspector in charge
37:48Of the division
37:49And that type of
37:50One on one
37:51May take place
37:52To ensure that
37:53The conversation
37:54Doesn't tarnish
37:56Or becomes
37:56Public consumption
37:57You follow
37:58But I think
37:59Anything
38:00Where our officers
38:02Are making themselves
38:03Availing themselves
38:04To speak with the public
38:06I think the public
38:07Has an absolutely
38:07Excellent opportunity
38:08To say officer
38:09This is happening
38:10In my place
38:11This is happening
38:12In my corner
38:12I need some type
38:14Of redress
38:14Alright certainly
38:15Alright remember the numbers

40:40You have to groom them
40:41First you have to target them
40:43Scope them out
40:45See if they have low self esteem
40:47Family problems you know
40:49Then you move in
40:51And gain the trust

41:09You have to isolate them

41:22A message
41:32From the counter-trafficking unit
41:34Of the ministry
41:34Of national security
41:36Welcome back to Beyond the Tape
41:51I'm your host Mark Besson
41:52Joined today by
41:53Corporal Derek Shabody
41:54Founder of the
41:55St. James Police Youth Club
41:57And it would be remiss of me
41:59Not to wish him
42:00Happy Ivory Anniversary
42:02I understand that you're
42:04Celebrating 14 years
42:06Today of marriage
42:07And it's a double celebration
42:09Because I also understand
42:10Today is your wife's birthday
42:11Yeah well I got
42:12Instructions 14 years ago
42:14Instructions
42:17Yeah yeah
42:17We are off the tiny nut
42:19And I gladly accept it
42:21You know
42:21I thank God for a good woman
42:22The Bible says
42:23Every good man is a
42:25Woman on the side
42:26You know
42:27We need good women
42:28And I thank God for my wife
42:29She has been very good to me
42:31She has been
42:32Left hand
42:33And right hand
42:33She supports all my
42:35Initiative and projects
42:36Home
42:37Raising the boys
42:39You know
42:39Multitasking
42:40Women do a very good job
42:42And we need to salute them
42:43And commend them
42:44So to my wife
42:45You know
42:45Love in the house
42:46You know
42:47I never regret
42:49I thank God for
42:51You know
42:52Good times and bad times
42:53Because it shapes you
42:54It makes you become
42:55A better person
42:56And as a result of that
42:57You know
42:58You can stand there
42:58And
42:59It's only when you are tested
42:59You can give a testimony
43:00Indeed
43:01You know
43:02I know you would have been tested
43:04If you did not
43:05Have
43:06Get some time
43:07To indicate
43:09And send some greetings
43:10Oh no no
43:11That don't lock
43:11That don't lock up
43:13I'm going to say
43:13I'll have to call you and ask you
43:14Because you can do something
43:16To venture my behalf
43:17You might end up
43:17You might end up
43:17And be on the TV
43:18Alright you have a call on the line
43:20Caller good evening
43:21Hi good afternoon
43:23Good evening ma'am
43:25Yeah
43:25I'm not hearing myself on the TV
43:29Okay
43:30You don't need to
43:31Go ahead
43:32Uh huh
43:33Uh huh
43:34Uh huh
43:34Yes
43:36Well I am calling here
43:38To make a complaint
43:39I am calling
43:40From Paraseco area
43:43It had a big fight
43:45In my yard
43:46On Friday night
43:48And I was so shaken up
43:50Being a woman
43:51And home here
43:52With nobody else
43:54And the guys were threatening
43:56One said he will kill the other one
43:59He come in tonight
44:00And keep my house close up
44:02It was a problem
44:03Concerning money
44:05That was owed
44:07And was not paid
44:08So when I see what's going on
44:10I was so shook up
44:11I said I'm going to call the police
44:14And I called the Santa Clara police station
44:17And when I called them
44:19A woman constable answered
44:21She took my name
44:23She took my address
44:25And she said
44:26That she's going to come
44:28The police is going to come
44:30Lo and behold
44:32So
44:32Up to now
44:33They didn't come
44:34Nobody stood up
44:37Nobody at all
44:39And here I am
44:40So scared
44:41I am still shook up
44:43About that incident
44:45And what I had to do
44:47I started to pray to God
44:49And call the fellow
44:51One of them
44:52And ask them
44:52Please
44:53Go in peace
44:54God let anger
44:55Cause worry
44:56To end up in the station
44:58And all this thing
44:59And he kept saying
45:01The man owe him money
45:02I said look
45:03I don't have much money
45:05At home
45:05But look
45:05Hold this $200
45:07And go please
45:09In the name of Jesus
45:10Right?
45:11And he just
45:12We are in to me
45:14Friend
45:14By all God
45:15He say
45:16I love the man
45:17You love him
45:17Guys
45:18Why are you paying for
45:18Men out to kill him
45:19I say no
45:20I love you too
45:22The both of you
45:23Right?
45:23And as a Christian woman
45:25I don't want to see
45:27A murder take place
45:28Here
45:28Right?
45:29And he started to cry
45:31And act
45:31With the proof of him
45:32I lay my hands
45:34On his head
45:34And proof of him
45:35And I give him the money
45:36He took it
45:37And then he left
45:38But what I am saying
45:40Is we are supposed
45:41To help the police
45:42Right?
45:44That had nothing
45:45To do with me
45:46But just for peace
45:47Sake
45:48I give him the money
45:49And to diswaste
45:51No police
45:53Has even come here
45:54To find out
45:55What happened
45:56Or nothing
45:57I am still traumatized
45:59As a matter of fact
46:00Kola
46:01We hope you leave
46:02Your number
46:02For Mr. Shabadi
46:03Mr. Shabadi
46:07I mean
46:07I can't even express
46:10How the lady felt
46:11But
46:11She must be commended
46:13First
46:13That is
46:14You know
46:15The quickening of the spirit
46:16And allowing God
46:17To use her
46:18To resolve
46:19That is excellent
46:20And sometimes
46:21Police always come
46:22And sometimes
46:24You are required
46:25You know
46:25To do some intervention
46:26And she has to be
46:28Applauded
46:28And commended
46:29You know
46:30Saying I love all your board
46:31Come people man
46:32There is value for life
46:33And that is what community
46:34Policing is all about
46:36The people coming
46:37You know
46:37However ma'am
46:38I want to let you know
46:39That we are not going to
46:40Pretend
46:41That the officer
46:42Did not respond
46:43And we would like you to
46:44Leave a number
46:45Or if you are inclined
46:47To call
46:47The inspector
46:48In charge of the
46:49Station
46:50And you know
46:51For a formal report
46:53It would be also helpful
46:54And I know that
46:55South Western Division
46:56And the Division
46:57Has watched this program
46:58All the time
46:58And I know that
46:59They are taking notes
47:00And the woman police
47:01Who took the call
47:03And did not respond
47:03You know
47:04It is very unfortunate
47:05You could have called
47:05Let you know
47:06That you know
47:07We have a little
47:08Setback
47:10Don't worry
47:11You know
47:11And give the one
47:12Some kind of assurance
47:13Very unfortunate
47:13Because that is not
47:14What the police
47:15Is all about
47:16When somebody is on your phone
47:17And they are appealing
47:18For help
47:18You know
47:19Give them the assurance
47:20The fact is
47:21Based on what she said
47:23Is that
47:23They said they were coming
47:25Yes
47:25So you are waiting there
47:27Hoping
47:27That they can come
47:28And defuse the situation
47:30Before it escalates
47:31Yes
47:31And she sounds like
47:32An elderly lady
47:33But she stepped in
47:34Had to use
47:36Her persuasive powers
47:37To try to
47:38Come and
47:39Simmer the situation down
47:41Thank God for that
47:42Yes
47:43She dipped in her own pocket
47:45And gave money
47:46To this person
47:47That was owed money
47:48Those things
47:48You know
47:49You don't find people
47:50Like that every day
47:50That is commendable
47:51Commendable
47:52Honestly
47:52I hope that
47:52The senior superintendent
47:53That of the
47:54Southwestern division
47:55Is looking on
47:56And I know
47:57He would probably
47:57Want to find out
47:59We hope that
48:00This person
48:01We could talk to her
48:02Yes
48:03Through you of course
48:04And send a time mandate
48:05Yes
48:05And find out
48:06Why is it that
48:06This police officer
48:07Who gave
48:08A solemn duty
48:09To go
48:10To that
48:11Location
48:12And so
48:13The problem
48:13Never arrived
48:14God forbid
48:15Something else
48:16Had happened
48:17What would have
48:17Been the position
48:18That's right
48:19God forbid
48:19Thank you very much
48:20And we need to be
48:21Thankful for people
48:22Who can supersede
48:24And do intervention
48:25And use good
48:25Let good sense prevail
48:27They must be commended
48:28But officers must
48:29Understand that
48:30They have a role
48:30And you can't be
48:31On 174
48:32Making a promise
48:33And to fulfill
48:34And we have the courtesy
48:34To say ma'am
48:35We apologize
48:36Is everything okay
48:38You know
48:39Make a second call
48:40Let you know
48:41That they're probably
48:41A little
48:42Set back
48:42You know
48:43So that she will
48:44Get the reassurance
48:44That the officers
48:45Took the call
48:47As a serious call
48:48All calls are serious
48:49And the superintendent
48:50In charge of the division
48:51Remind officers
48:52Over and over
48:53Especially those
48:53At the charging level
48:54Make note
48:55Make call
48:56Do respond
48:57Do follow up
48:58And make sure
48:59The person
48:59At least
49:00Matters are attended to
49:01Yeah
49:02And I just want to say
49:02I hope that
49:03This is not necessarily
49:05A reflection on the
49:06Santa
49:06Santa Flora police station
49:08Okay
49:08There are other officers
49:09There are other officers
49:10That I am certain
49:10That are very hard
49:11Working
49:12Excellent
49:12Excellent officers
49:13So you know
49:13One person might
49:14Spoil the entire image
49:15Of your station
49:16And we certainly
49:17Don't want that to happen
49:18In the future
49:19So we are hopeful
49:20That you know
49:21The relevant personnel
49:23Is taking their notes
49:24And we will follow up
49:26On this situation
49:27Alright
49:27We're going to take

51:24This is Mary
51:31Mary has bills to pay
51:34And takes a chance
51:35Parking in front of the building
51:37At the no parking sign
51:38Mary returns to her car
51:40And this is what happens
51:43Mary decides to call
51:51When she's five minutes away
51:53To let her daughter know
51:54That she is close by
51:56But Mary forgot
51:57One thing
51:58After two tickets
52:06Mary just isn't paying attention
52:09To her speed
52:10Don't be like Mary
52:26Obey the laws of the rude
52:29A message from the TTPS
52:31Welcome back to Beyond the Tape
52:47I'm your host Mark Bassan
52:48Joined today by
52:49Corporal Derek Shabody
52:51Of the St. James Police Youth Club
52:53And I know with school now
52:55Officially closed
52:56The summer vacation has
52:58Started
52:59And I know you have
53:00A lot of activities planned
53:01And you want to obviously
53:03Educate the public
53:04Well this is a national program
53:06And I thank God
53:07That the Commissioner of Police
53:08And the Executive
53:09Has given
53:10The police officers
53:12A mandate to
53:12Ensure that
53:13The young people
53:14Time are occupied
53:15Constructively
53:16You follow
53:17The Superintendent
53:18Judge of Committee
53:19In charge of Cops
53:20You know
53:21Has given
53:22The time of giving
53:23The adult
53:25At value
53:26That camps are essential
53:28Especially in this time
53:29But more than that
53:30We would like to
53:30Appeal to people
53:31To make sure
53:32And be very careful
53:33In terms of
53:34Where you're putting
53:34Your child
53:35Make sure
53:35It's a disciplined camp
53:37Make sure that
53:38You do your checks
53:39And balance
53:39In terms of the leader
53:40Make sure you understand
53:42And do a little
53:43Policing
53:44In terms of the environment
53:45You know
53:46The space
53:47Where they
53:47You know
53:48Check the level
53:49Of communication
53:50Do not just
53:50Say
53:51Okay my child
53:52Is involved in a camp
53:53You must participate
53:54You must police
53:55You must do
53:56Your own
53:57Due diligence
53:58To ensure
53:59The safety
53:59Of your children
54:00In addition to
54:02It is absolutely
54:03Important
54:04That in this time
54:05Especially for five weeks
54:07You have to take
54:08Into consideration
54:09The level of communication
54:11Dropping your child
54:13And bringing a child
54:13Ensuring that
54:14Your child
54:15Safety
54:15Because the elements
54:16Are there
54:16The elements
54:17Are looking
54:18All for what you call
54:20Opportunity
54:21That's why crime
54:21Unfortunately
54:23Raises ugly head
54:25Once they have
54:26The opportunity
54:26And do not take
54:28For granted
54:28That you know
54:30Their child
54:30In a police
54:30You come
54:31And that's it
54:31You follow
54:32It is important
54:33That you work
54:34In concert
54:34Leave a second
54:36Contact number
54:36Teach your children
54:37About a code
54:38Let them know
54:39If they're in a vehicle
54:40And if they're uncomfortable
54:41What to say
54:42How to behave
54:43Say driver
54:44Sir you don't have to
54:45Stop out here
54:45You have your teacher
54:46Child to be tactful
54:47When they call you
54:49They must be able
54:49To mention a code
54:50On the phone
54:51To know that
54:52Something is wrong
54:53Because my child
54:53Never would mention
54:54There is a new discussion
54:56That you need to have
54:57With your children
54:58In terms of the phone
54:59The phone having that value
55:00Make sure it has internet
55:02Some formula
55:03$20 on it
55:04It should be a case
55:05Where there's no money
55:05That important call
55:08Could be an important
55:09You know
55:09Could be very central
55:10In addition to
55:12Teach your children
55:13To move in groups
55:13The more you move
55:15Single
55:16Then unfortunately
55:17The elements
55:18Will be able to
55:18Pray on you
55:19Yep
55:20Right
55:20We want to appeal
55:22To the private sector
55:23Well
55:23To support the camps
55:25You know
55:25It is good business
55:27What is the case
55:29A few cases of water
55:31Drinks
55:31Snacks
55:31It's a good thing
55:33To want a child
55:33Come to the camp
55:34This morning
55:34And sometimes parents
55:36Parents cannot afford the camp
55:37And you'll find that
55:38The leaders
55:39Appeal them to
55:40Corporate sponsors
55:41Or to individuals
55:42To sponsor the child
55:43Probably a breakfast
55:44A meal
55:45And it's good to know
55:46That children
55:47Of any level
55:49Could say that
55:50Okay I have been
55:51The beneficiary of a camp
55:52For five weeks
55:53For five weeks
55:53I've learned
55:53And I'm grateful
55:54So we want to appeal
55:56To all those
55:57Who are having camps
55:58At a national level
55:59About Trinidad and Tobago
56:00We want to salute them
56:02Whether it's
56:02Police Club
56:03YMCA
56:04Harvard
56:04You call it
56:06It is
56:06Exempt
56:07It is a step
56:08In the right direction
56:08And there's thousands
56:10Of children
56:10That are out of school
56:12And we want to
56:13Appeal to parents
56:15Get your child
56:16Involved
56:17In a camp
56:17It's what happened
56:17In Belmont
56:18Young people
56:19Lying on the block
56:20And trigger pick up
56:22There's no place
56:23There's no reason
56:24Why your child
56:25Should be lying on the block
56:26Lying on the corner
56:27There's no safe place
56:28In fact my mother
56:29Tell me
56:30All lime is sour
56:30And she never tastes
56:32A sweet lime yet
56:32You follow
56:33So I just want to appeal
56:35Times are different now
56:36And make sure
56:37Time is occupied
56:39Constructively
56:39Right
56:40Well as we go
56:41Of course
56:42I just want to
56:42Big up everybody
56:43In Palosico
56:44You know
56:44I've been there
56:45Many times
56:46Many years
56:46I have a lot of friends
56:47And family
56:48That live in that area
56:50And so on
56:50And really nice people
56:52They can really cook
56:53And that lady
56:54Just brought back
56:55So many memories
56:56So to all you
56:57Residents in Palosico
56:58Thanks so much
