02:36Welcome to Beyond the Tape. I'm your host Mark Basant. Welcome Trinidad and Tobago and of course
02:55our viewers across the globe. This is Beyond the Tape and I know usually we would have Captain
03:00Valence Rambarat. He's a little bit delayed because of an accident along the Uriah Butler
03:06Highway between the Kearney and Monmouth Road flyover. Our information is that apparently there
03:13was a collision involving this ice truck you're seeing on your screen that is occupying at least
03:18two lanes of the northbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway. There was also another vehicle
03:24also involved in that particular accident that you're not seeing. The vehicle is supposedly in
03:31the bushes nearby and it is causing some serious traffic congestion. People heading south also
03:39perhaps slowing down as well and people experiencing difficulty on the northbound lane trying to get
03:46into Port of Spain and of course to go eastbound as well. So we are certainly hopeful that Captain
03:53Rambarat will be here in the shortest possible time so that he can share his insightful information
03:59about missing persons or anybody that have been recovered or found and otherwise and those that
04:07remain on the missing persons list. So it's day 15 of the state of emergency and we just want to
04:16kind of catch up a little bit with the figures representative of the various police divisions
04:24across Trinidad and Tobago. So for those of us joining us there, approximately 755 operations
04:35to date targeting at least 711 priority offenders. Police have conducted 4,269 searches to date.
04:47There have also traffic operations, forgive us for the typo in operations there in the second,
04:54610 traffic operations to date and the number of persons arrested to date for the state of
05:03emergency day 15 is 601. Traffic offenses detected 1,578. Importantly firearms recovered 36 to date.
05:16Ammunition recovered 1,462 assorted ammunition, sorry 1,042 assorted ammunition and dangerous
05:29drugs seized 114,143.7 grams of marijuana and 607.76 grams of cocaine. So certainly the police
05:43you know is pushing in their operations to rid the country of illicit firearms, illicit drugs and
05:52other illicit paraphernalia that is found in the possession of persons whether it's in their
05:58vehicles, at their homes or otherwise as the state of emergency continues. I know that they would
06:05have been debating the matter in Parliament earlier today in terms of whether or not an
06:12extension will be granted for the state of emergency. I don't think a decision has been
06:18made just yet. So certainly we will keep you posted on that. So with that we're going to go
06:24quickly to our headlines.
06:46Those were some of the headlines within the last 24 hours and unfortunately over the last 48 hours
06:55we had three additional homicides from Friday to this morning. So this morning unfortunately
07:03Ornella Park 33 years of age was shot and killed, that's Miss Park on your screen there, on her way
07:11to work from the, she works at the Port of Spain City Corporation. She was shot and killed by a
07:17gunman near Lovers Lane in Belmont and police sources are saying of course based on the
07:24information and speaking to a couple of senior officers earlier today that Miss Park was
07:30allegedly in another location on the other side of Belmont and was warned not to come to that side
07:37of Belmont. So it's really strange that you know somebody would be shot for coming on one side of
07:44Belmont when they did not comply and we certainly hope well that those that are responsible for
07:51Miss Park's killing will be brought to justice in a shorted, shortest possible time. And then
07:58on Friday night there was the shooting death of 58 year old Monty James at
08:06Bata Circular in Diggle Martin. I think we have a few images to share or video
08:14of the area where Mr. James was found. What was strange was that apparently gunshots were heard
08:21on Friday night and upon checking nobody saw or found anything. And on Saturday morning around
08:3010 45 a.m. relatives of Mr. James went to the area near his home and they actually found him
08:38bleeding with with gunshot wounds. He had already passed and you know the relevant police
08:45were contacted to come to the scene. And last night there was also another homicide in the
08:53Barrapore area. That victim has been identified as Jason Kevin Morris. The information that we
09:01have is it happened shortly around eight o'clock last night. Mr. Mohammed was sitting in a car with
09:09a number of other persons in the Rochard Douglas area when apparently gunmen pulled up in the
09:17vehicle and opened fire on the group of men. Now Mr. Mohammed was a little bit slow in getting out
09:23of the car while everybody else scattered who was outside of the vehicle. And in so doing he ran he
09:30was shot several times by the gunmen who then escaped in their vehicle. What we understand
09:37is that police are still trying to determine a motive for the shooting. They are not sure if
09:42Mr. Mohammed was the intended target and that group of persons that you know that would have
09:50scampered when the gunman came. But unfortunately it's 13 days into the year and unfortunately there
09:57are 13 murders for the year. So it seems that you know unfortunately the numbers are picked up with
10:05the date because I remembered one time we had about five in about nine days approximately.
10:12That we are hopeful that you know a lot of them have been committed with the assistance of
10:17firearms as the police continue their relentless pursuit during the state of emergency to
10:24rid the country and the streets of those illicit firearms.
10:28We're going to take a short break and we'll be back. Stay with us.

13:19Welcome back to Beyond the Tape. I'm your host Mark Bosant and of course we are now joined by
13:23Captain Valence Rambarad from the Hunter Search and Rescue Team. I think he ran up the highway
13:29after that accident. Yes so those of you good afternoon everyone and it's a pleasure to be on
13:35Beyond the Tape on a Monday again. We are joined by Captain Valence Rambarad from the Hunter Search
13:41and Rescue Team. Welcome back to Beyond the Tape. I'm your host Mark Bosant and of course we are now
13:47joined by Captain Valence Rambarad from the Hunter Search and Rescue Team. Welcome back to
13:53Beyond the Tape on a Monday again. So those those persons who are expecting their loved ones from
13:58south up north you can expect a delay because a large cargo truck capsized on the northbound and
14:07blocked all three lanes. So the traffic has started to move and the truck has, they're carrying the
14:13and then they have a lot of motorists on the southbound lane slowing down macro traffic as
14:17they call it. Macro traffic. That causing even traffic of people leaving border speed to go to
14:21south or central you know. Yeah. So how was how was your weekend? Well weekend was good and I
14:27said at the last program that my mom's birthday was on Sunday and we had a nice family celebration
14:34but for December 2024, we're still working on December 2024, we had 48 reports of missing
14:43persons. The last Monday we had 21 still outstanding. We were able over the last week
14:50to reduce that by three persons so we still have 18 missing persons and this may be our last chance
14:58to take a look at the 18 missing persons and if you have information which could lead to us
15:04trying to assist these families to locate their loved ones, please feel free to contact us at
15:10799-1453. So outstanding still for December we have Ishmael Edwards and we still working on this
15:21case Casey Smith we have information that she's here there and everywhere we're getting videos
15:26of her presence in the Port of Spain district and we're working with the police to try to to get her
15:33Dijani Fenty is still missing as well as Jaden Jackson. Jaden is one of those
15:42boys who ran away from one of the children's home and we're working with the children's
15:46authority to try and get him back. He was last seen in Fairfield in Princess Town.
15:53Ricky George remains outstanding as well as Sean Lee Martinez. Sean Lee Martinez is another
16:00children's authority case and he was last seen in the El Dorado district. We have Michael Charles
16:08who remains missing who is still missing as well as Dwayne Collingwood. We're working to get some
16:17additional information on Dwayne Collingwood from the Bank Village Carapachima district so we could
16:23assist that family. Elijah Stevens we're working on this case with the Barataria Police and he
16:31remains outstanding. Natalia Mandare. Mark remember the guy who was thrown out of the V Club in
16:41Moriah Road in Conupia? Yes. Alleged that Natalia Mandare was with him and she remains outstanding.
16:50We're close to closing Crystal Foster. I believe she established contact with her family last night
16:58and by tomorrow we should get hear from the family if she's back home. Frandelis Rodriguez is one of
17:04these cases where we work with the migrant community to try to assist them when we have the
17:10lost migrants and she remains outstanding. There was an incident if I'm researching right where
17:17they came up from Princess Town. Yes. And they arrived near the supermarket in Arima. Yes. And
17:22there were some witnesses and apparently a car pulled up. Pulled up and took her in. Oh wow. Right
17:27so this one is a troublesome one. Tyrese Amoroso. He is still outstanding but you can recall his
17:35vehicle was found burned in the Chaguanas district so we have a red flag on Tyrese Amoroso. So if
17:42members of the public could assist us. He is from the Chaguanas district. A young man.
17:50Genesis Ruben. We're working with the St. Joseph Police and hopefully we know that she's probably
17:56in the Degomartin district. So if you're in the Degomartin district and you spot her please call
18:02799-1453. Danelle Hamlin. We are unable to get any info. We do not have information on her thus
18:13far. Devon Phillip is remains outstanding from the Chatham district as well as Shane Thomas. Now
18:22Shane Thomas is mentally compromised and this is about his third time. So we know with time
18:32he will be located. And then we have Pete Phillip. Mark you would know Pete Phillip. Pete Phillip is
18:38the the guy from the rig down there. Now well services limited has stated that he has been his
18:47body has been observed below the debris of the fallen rig 110. And they need some time and some
18:55clearance from the Osh people to recover his body. So I know his wife has been saying that
19:04his birthday is on the 27th of January and they would like to have his body for that time.
19:12As we go into January we still have we had 13 reports of missing persons so far.
19:18And January has been good in the sense that we only have five persons unaccounted for. We were
19:24able to account for eight and those persons are Marika Harry. Now we're working closely with the
19:34penal police with respect to Marika Harry. We closed the red flag in this case but by tomorrow
19:42we will we will base on information that we could possibly collect tonight. Was it particular
19:49her disappearance? Well she was out there on Olier's night. She communicated with her family
19:55just after midnight that she was in the she was with ants right on the road there.
20:02And you remember the ants on last day? Right. And so we have those text messages and further to that
20:11we were able to get to her Instagram account. Right. And we were able to pick up the chats
20:17and in the chats she is confirming there is a conversation between her and ants. Now we're in
20:23contact with ants. He doesn't want to go to the penal police station and he's denying it
20:30categorically that he was in she was in his presence. But we want to we want to call out ants.
20:35Yes we need. If you have information to help the police or you can just search on your rescue team.
20:42Just call 799. Just call them and give them the information if you know where she is.
20:47Because her mother is distraught at this time and and and she has been in contact with us and
20:52we're relaying all the information to the police. She's a teenager man. A teenager. Yeah and this is New Year's
21:00morning. Exactly. Right. So it could not have been that she was in the company of somebody else.
21:06It had to be you ants. So we're asking you to to continue to talk to me and let's go to the police
21:13station and penal. I am available 24 7 to take you there for you to speak to the police officers.
21:20Then we had Kimaya Bishop. She's a repeat offender and we're working with her mother. She has been
21:26spotted in phase 4 in Vietnam. Crystal Collins. We don't have an update on Crystal Collins but we were
21:34in contact with the police over the weekend with respect to Crystal. Right. And this we have Destiny
21:41Matthews from Tacoragua who is still outstanding. In this case Mark the last case for that we cannot
21:49account for is Keston Koto from the El Dorado, Tonopona area. It is said that he came home,
21:57parked his vehicle, his GPS and stated that the vehicle didn't go anywhere. It was Israel.
22:05What we're looking at here is a case of trying to see what happened to him when he parked his vehicle
22:11and he lived in an apartment there in El Dorado. So we're trying our best to work on this case to
22:17see what would have happened to Keston Koto. But this is a red flag case that we've red flag
22:23and we're working on these cases. I wanted to ask you and I'm sure the producer would have the
22:30photo of Shastri Rampersad who was kidnapped in November. I know that last Monday when we spoke
22:37you said that a ransom had been paid and you expected that Mr. Rampersad would have been
22:43released. Of course that did not materialize and I would really like to get an update and I
22:48really like to appeal to anybody who has information about Mr. Rampersad's whereabouts.
22:54His family remains optimistic. I know there are a lot of things that are happening behind the
22:59scenes with police officers from the anti-kidnapping squad but come on somebody should know something.
23:05I mean it's been months and we prefer to have a very you know happy ending to this story.
23:11Yeah and we continue to work closely with the police and his relatives and we're picking up a lot of
23:16information and transmitting that information to the Trinidad and Tobago police service. So hopefully
23:24we could have Shastri and Rampersad back home with his family because I find it odd that the
23:32family kept their end of the bargain and the persons who have Shastri and Rampersad they have
23:38not kept their end. So we're asking those responsible to ensure that Shastri gets home as quickly as
23:46possible and we want to get some, we want to make his family happy and to have him home but this is a
23:54very interesting case. Right, you want to identify any recent missions that you would have gone on?
24:01Yeah we would have gone on, we have Nila Ragbir and I want to highlight it simply because it
24:09tells you and tells the public the kind of work we have to do. So Nila Ragbir when missing
24:16few weeks ago family contacted us and over the last few days we were able to track her
24:24using public information as well as the relatives and our members. So first of all she was spotted
24:31in a boutique mall area in Port of Spain and then we were able to get a member of the public
24:38to give us information that she was in Citygate. So it appears that she was moving between
24:44Citygate and Frederick and Henry Street. Right. And on the weekend she was spotted on Prince
24:51Street and the relatives and our members were able to close in and get her and here she is.
24:57This was submitted by a member of the public and we immediately got her family to
25:03identify her and this is her with her happy sister and good ending. Now Nila is mentally
25:08compromised as well. Yes I remember you said that. So but it indicates that she was wearing
25:13the same clothes over a period of time so we needed to find her. Yes. Put her back with her
25:19family and of course her family has to work extensively with her, get the help to ensure that
25:27she doesn't wander off because if they don't get a medication they have this tendency to
25:32wander off. And Mark I think on Friday you would have shared information with respect to Mathieu
25:40Badoul from Princess Town District. Yes. We had worked extensively in the field trying to locate
25:47Mathieu Badoul and we have this is the scene there where the police picked up information
25:55from a member of the public and visited an area of the Fairfield Estate Road and there in the
26:02bushes there about 200 feet inside and that's he was found under strange circumstances and let me
26:09explain the strange circumstances to you. He what we know about this case is simply that he was
26:18gambling on the night. Right. And we have recordings from his friends stating that he came upon
26:23and yeah you know about winning a wappie. Right. So he won the wappie that night we understand he
26:29had about fifteen thousand dollars on him. Wow. And this is the last video we have of him walking
26:35along High Street. That would have been after or before. This is just before he won the wappie.
26:39Or just before. He was going towards the train line in Princess Town to engage in the wappie
26:46there and um. He was back there. Yes. I know the area. My family from Princess Town so I know the
26:55area. I left there for a short while. So it's not a very. Yeah. You know. But I'll explain the strange
27:00circumstances. Normally we when we find victims that have hanged themselves we normally observe
27:06certain things. First of all the feet are off the ground. Right. The head pops forward in all cases.
27:12In Matthew's case the head was backwards. I think they tied his hands. Yeah they had the
27:19hands tied. Yes. His feet they were touching the ground and his knees were bent. So it meant that
27:25he could not have popped his neck to be in that position. So immediately upon viewing it we said
27:32this is probably it appears to be a homicide and something similar to what happened at Cali Bay
27:39with a female. Yeah about in November or early December. Yeah. So we found it strange. The
27:47police officers when the autopsy is completed hopefully they could determine the cause of death.
27:54But I know with a body in that state of decomposition. Yes. It may be difficult but
28:01let's hope that the family can get some justice in this matter. Yeah because you know you're
28:07thinking here among friends you know playing a card game for money and so on and somebody
28:15thought or somebody's I should say thought that you know hey this man went all this money now
28:19we had to take it. And we think that's what happened and that made him an ideal victim
28:25for robbery and in the process he may have been killed. But we're keeping our eyes the family.
28:31I mean we're close to the family now and they worried. They were worried about where he was.
28:36Now it has turned to the fact that he may have been murdered. So that's why we asked the
28:41Princes Town Police and Homicide to pursue with some degree of determination this case
28:47so that the family you know could understand what went on. I certainly want to extend our
28:52deepest sympathies to his family and his passing and of course hopeful as Mr. Rambaut said that
28:59those that are responsible for this horrendous murder has brought to justice.

31:04Welcome back to Beyond the Tape. I'm your host, Mark Massan, joined today by Captain Valence
31:08Hunter's search and rescue team. And before we go into the next segment, I just want to remind you
31:13of the numbers to call 623-1711 extensions 1996 and 1997. And it was a very interesting comment
31:25the prime minister made in parliament today, captain. And while speaking about the scourge
31:31of violence in the country and gang violence that is causing a lot of
31:37the bloodletting in Trinidad and Tobago last year and into this year, he spoke,
31:44I was a little bit taken aback, he spoke about a particular police station that takes off their
31:51lights and closes up literally in the night. Alluding to, of course, the fear of criminals.
31:59I don't know which police station it is, but certainly it's an indictment where you see now
32:06even the police are afraid of these criminals, if the claim of what the prime minister is saying
32:10turns out to be true. Well, I missed the statement. I even missed any update on the parliament debate
32:16on the SOE in terms of the extension. I don't know if you have any. I think it's still ongoing.
32:20It's still ongoing. But yes, that's an indictment. But Mark, I recall seeing a video in the Israel
32:28River area where the police was present and there were AR-15, there were rifles going off from
32:34all directions and there was a murder at that time. And I continue to say that if I was a police
32:41officer, I would have not gone there. I would have been fearful for my life because I may not be able
32:48to have gone back to my family. So if the prime minister made that statement, yes, there exists
32:57fear. I would advise the general public and certainly some police officers because these
33:06elements possess high-powered rifles and they could do a lot of damage and it's easy for them
33:13to storm a police station. I know this is a national security issue, but sometimes, Mark,
33:20when you visit police stations, they are understaffed. They have officers on leave and
33:26there's a small handful of them running up any particular station at one point in time
33:31and it makes them easy targets for the criminals or anybody who want to put God out of their thoughts
33:39and engage the police in any sort of activity. But you may have some truth in that.
33:46Yeah, certainly. And I share the sentiments because there have been the association of
33:52talking about some of the bulletproof vests they've been wearing not for many years. It's
33:57worn. There's other problems that the officers face in terms of ammunition and other pressing
34:05things that the association have raised from time to time. And certainly, it's difficult
34:11sometimes for the conditions for police officers to operate under.
34:15Right. And then when the SOE was announced, I know at the press conference, it was said that
34:20no amount of resources will be spared in this renewed fight against the criminal elements. I
34:26hope they get the bulletproof vest and the ammunition. And additionally, what was said
34:31was that they would confer on to the, well, the power similar to the police were conferred upon
34:39the soldiers, the army personnel. So I think with an increased human resource group available
34:47in the fight against crime, they should adequately staff police stations to make them secured.
34:53I remember Izia said that because there was a number of recruits that went up and did the
34:58polygraph test and they failed. So now it's a whole process to again, try to bolster the staff
35:05for the police for service numbers. So it's an ongoing process. And as we speak about criminal
35:11elements, one of the most troubling things in the last couple of days, of course, is the threats
35:18sent out against prison officers, where police are now investigating some of those claims.
35:27And these are images you will see here first on Beyond the Tape. Yesterday, they had a huge
35:33operation in the maximum security prison building one. Over 300 prison officers took part in this
35:42exercise in a state of emergency in a massive search of cells in that building. And what they
35:51found was alarming. Improvised weapons, at least 40 or 50 improvised weapons you're seeing on your
35:58screen from shanks and iron and metal and all these different things, harshly blunt objects.
36:08And they also recovered, according to my source, 39 cell phones as well as there were SIM cards
36:16also recovered, cigarette packets, cigarettes rolled with marijuana in them, roll-ons, and a
36:24number of cell phone charges at the top of your screen on the left-hand side of that, all laid out
36:30on a table tennis board there with some prison officers looking on. And what I was also told was
36:36that there's also some medicinal drugs that was brought into the prison, of course, unauthorized
36:44or unpermitted or not permission was not granted. So those were also seized as well. And my
36:50understanding is that the police continue to, sorry, the prison officers continue to step up
36:56these searches as well. They had the assistance and support of the Guarding Emergency Branch
37:01of the TGPS as well as two other specialized units within the prisons because I understand
37:07that close to 300 officers were called from various prisons to come and help in the search.
37:12They are supposedly searching for a particular cell phone, I understand, where apparently it is
37:20alleged that somebody made a call talking about threats to prison officers' lives and so on and
37:25they're trying to locate that cell phone and in so doing, of course, all this illegal contraband.
37:31Captain? Yes, and if you're following the news, the Prison Officers Association president came out
37:40and he spoke about the possible harm to prison officers and I know the gentleman wouldn't jump
37:47just like that. It had to have something that would have triggered him coming public
37:52to warn about some impending harm that may come to prison officers. So what they seized there
38:01is evidence that the threat is real, but mark the question of these Germans in the prison, right?
38:09The robbers. But what I'm looking at in the image, I'm seeing in the images, I'm seeing a lot of
38:15phone chargers and if you have a phone and it has to be charged, then the easier thing to do
38:22would be to check your electricity supply and make that inaccessible to the prisoners.
38:29So you may not want to have these electrical outlets close, well, within the rooms, of course.
38:36You will have lighting, of course, and that is one way that the authorities could assist the prison
38:43in terms of prison management is to look at the electricity source and ensure that
38:49there is none to power phones and you may not have to put the jammers at all.
38:54And I remember speaking with a former prisons commissioner and I asked him in relation to the
39:01grabbers, that is, because if you understand the logistics of how grabbers work, if you make a
39:07direct call, it's supposed to stop it, right? But with the advent of WhatsApp, you just need data
39:13on your phone. It's like a radio signal, which is a different thing. So he did not answer me
39:18directly as to whether or not the capabilities might, maybe now they have extended that further
39:25technology to prevent WhatsApp calls from going in and out the prison, because it seems to be one
39:30of the most popular way, even us out in the, what they call the free world, operates on calls and
39:36WhatsApp calls. And in terms of some of those kidnappings or ransom, we know they were using
39:41burner phones from the prison. Yes. And so they're very difficult to trace, but still they need to
39:47look at the electrical supply, the power supply and find out where they, how they are charging
39:54these phones and that's a free advice. Look at it, it may stop the problem. Yeah, and we can't
40:00negate the fact that there's also complicit elements in this as well, who obviously has to,
40:06we have to look into that as well. All right. So we're going to take a short break and
40:10we're hopeful to take some of your calls when we get back, stay with us.

41:54Welcome back to Beyond the Tape. I'm your host, Mark Bassant, joined today by Captain
41:57Valence Rambarak from the Hunter's Search and Rescue Team. We want to remind you of the numbers
42:02to call 623-1711 extensions 1996 and 1997. Of course, a good chance for you guys to connect
42:10with Captain Rambarak and any concerns or any of any relatives perhaps that are missing that we
42:16don't know about would be a good time to call in and have a chat with him. In the meantime, of course,
42:21over the weekend, we're pretty busy. There were several road traffic accidents, you know, in that
42:27festive time with carnival, Christmas upon us. This one in the Rockyville area in Tobago.
42:37Here you see the van that seems like a police vehicle as well was also part of that
42:45collision there. A number of police vehicles, fire officers also on the scene.
42:51A kid very early in the morning. Yes, that's a better shot here.
42:57I see that the vehicle struck the police vehicle. It looks like we're not too certain of the
43:04circumstances or how the incident happened. But clearly, Captain, you know, we are in a time where
43:11you know, festive time, people are coming from parties early in the morning, two, three, four,
43:15five in the morning. And I'm not saying that is the case here. But in a general sense,
43:21we have to exercise more caution on the roadways. Yeah, and we move from the Christmas into the
43:27carnival season. And we continue to see road traffic accidents all over. We had an encounter
43:34on the way up. So we urge drivers to be careful. But you looking at Tobago, and I know,
43:42Tobago has had a lot of road traffic accidents on that Claude Noyle Highway. Yeah. And so they
43:49have to look at the speed limit there. So we urge the drivers in Tobago to be careful,
43:54to have their vehicles and good work in order, and to be cautious on the on the roads there in Tobago.
44:01Yeah. So this this actual accident, we're not certain of the location, I think it's somewhere
44:06in East Trinidad. But it certainly shows the Osamaru Village, that's our direct back road.
44:13That wing road comes out of the side street there. The gentleman with the Ford Ranger,
44:19of course, having the right of way. And guess what happens? He drives off. Yeah, he drives off.
44:25With nothing more, nothing major happening to his vehicle, he decides to drive off. And of course,
44:29the driver is filming him with his phone. He's walking up to at least get some, some,
44:36bit of information. Yeah, in terms of vehicle, of the number plate of that. And I don't even think
44:42that he stopped at that intersection before proceeding. Because it's a very precarious
44:48intersection of was a narrowish kind of road. But you see, yeah, he didn't even stop. There was no
44:54braking. So this person, of course, coming and having the right of way. Luckily, it wasn't as
44:59bad as it looked first looked, and he ended up partially in the drain. The driver was unconcerned,
45:05he stood for less than five seconds and drove off. And then he drove off. And that's not the
45:09kind of behavior we want to encourage. But I think this one is a clear cut one where the
45:13driver of the white station wagon clearly broke the major road there. And he's culpable. I hope
45:20really that the van driver would have, would get justice in this matter. And the other issue really
45:26is with a car. Yeah, it would have been much more serious. The car would have ended up in
45:31the box train there and you could have got fatalities. There was a wall there as well.
45:36This accident happened in Claxton Bay over the weekend, I think it was on Saturday.
45:41Looked pretty bad. It was at least, I think, two vehicles involved in what it looked like a
45:48head-on collision and several people were injured badly in this particular accident here. You know,
45:55one of the vehicles overturned. Somebody here seems to have been injured. The injured persons
46:03were removed from the vehicle that is on its side. The other one, of course, looks like a Nissan
46:11Tida. Head-on. You can see the entire front is mangle wrecked and you have at least what
46:21appears to be one of the victims from one of the vehicles being attended to. And I think the driver
46:27of this Tida was actually in his vehicle still. A little bit pinned and there was another video
46:33where some of the passers-by was telling him what to do just to relax. A gentleman was telling him.
46:41So you see he was pinned there. I think his feet might have been pinned. The impact of the
46:45collision, of course, and the gentleman there was rendering some assistance to tell him how
46:50to just wait until assistance arrived. Mark, I'm not too sure if you're following social media with
46:58respect to some of these accidents. So the first three we did this afternoon, there's one commonality
47:05in it and that is the presence of these vans in all three. And there is a better commentary. I'm
47:12not casting aspersions on anyone but there's a better commentary going on in the country with
47:18respect to these four by four vehicles and the rate of speed by which they are driven.
47:25And there's a tendency by some of the drivers to bully others on the road. And I'm following it
47:32closely because we're on the road every day and we see it. And so if an appeal could be made to us,
47:41these drivers of these vans, to follow the traffic laws and stay within your speed limit
47:51and drive as if you're driving a car and not these high-end vehicles.
47:57Surely. As you said, the whole incident because people don't know this because I don't know if
48:04you would look at those vehicles, those types of vehicles, the Rangers, the Fords and so on.
48:10And because when you speed with those vehicles, especially on the highway, because of the
48:14spacing in the wheel well, which is far greater than a car or so on, you're inclined to flip
48:20easier. Easier. With the wind and so on and the speed that you're going. Right. You can turn over
48:27easier in those vehicles than a car or even a SUV that is a little bit lower in the spacing.
48:31And if you're following the RTAs, you're seeing a lot of vans being turned over,
48:37flipped on their sides, you're seeing minibuses. So what you're seeing is quite true. It appears
48:43that the axis, the center of gravity is higher than the cars. So they have to exercise caution
48:54on the roads while driving. And they have to also know that we're looking on at them because we
48:59suspect that some of them ought to be told that they're not handling their vehicles well on the
49:06road. Yeah, of course. And this particular accident was in the Valencia area, also over the weekend,
49:14involving a pedestrian, I believe, on the roadway here, seemed to have been struck.
49:22You'll see the pedestrian is lying on the roadway. A police van is in the backdrop there.
49:29I don't know if the person was attempting to cross the street or the roadway in that area.
49:36When he was apparently struck, he's lying there motionless. And that Valencia stretch area
49:44is an area where you tend to see a lot of accidents happening. A lot of people overtaking in that area
49:52where you're really not supposed to be overtaking. To be overtaking because you don't have shoulders on that
49:56Valencia stretch by the essential pathway to the eastern part of Trinidad. And we really observe
50:04them. But that's another RTA with a pedestrian. And, you know, you pointed out that
50:12lately we've seen a lot of pedestrians involved in these RTAs. So you have to be extremely
50:20careful on the roads. You have to know the users of the road and that in some cases
50:27there will be pedestrians crossing at any point in time. And drivers have to be careful because
50:33we have seen an increase in pedestrians being involved in RTAs. Yes, exactly. And of course
50:40sometimes you might be overtaking and somebody trying to cross the road. Maybe, I don't know if
50:43that was the case here. And you can't stop in time. And of course the end result is that
50:50you hit that person crossing the street. All right, we're going to take a short break and
50:54we'll be back after this. Stay with us.
51:03Welcome to Holiday Inn Express, I'm Spencer. Do enjoy your stay, sir.

51:46Guess what everyone? Today on our class trip to the Nature Seekers Centre, we saw amazing animals

52:03more. They showed us how solar power works and how it's helping them save money and the
52:08environment. Wait, wait. You said save money? And we get to save the planet too? That sounds
52:13like something we should look into, sweetie. So, you have any more pictures? Yeah. Solar power
52:19to the people. Trinidad and Tobago's love, love of athletes is conditional and optional based on
52:33My lover's got no money. He's got his strong beliefs. The fearless one is asking,
52:40what do the people of Trinidad and Tobago really want?
52:47Athletes, coaches, administrators, and public. We need to find the desire to work together.

53:25Welcome back to Beyond the Tape. I'm your host, Mark Bassan, joined today by Captain Valence
53:36Rambarat from the Hunter Search and Rescue Team. And we have just a couple minutes to wrap. We just
53:41wanted to kind of touch on, there were two fires over the weekend in the El Dorado area. It seems
53:48to be a dwelling house. I didn't hear anything or see anything in the news to suggest that anybody
53:54was in that house, thankfully. Unfortunately, I know the dwelling structure of somebody who was
54:00living there was consumed by the flames. And, you know, it seemed to have spread quite quickly. And
54:07then this is the fire in the St. Helena area. Also, I think the following night, it could have
54:14been on Saturday night into Sunday morning. Also looked like a dwelling structure of some sort
54:21there. And of course, we just want to remind people of safety when you're at home or if you're
54:28leaving to go out, what you should and shouldn't leave on. Yeah, and I think in some cases,
54:33you pay special attention to electrical. And that is the main cause of fires, house fires,
54:40and be careful with your stoves. But I just want to make a plug, Mark, for police officers and fire
54:47officers when they're out there. I know extra resources will go to the police, but I want to
54:52make a plug for the fire officers as well. Make sure that they have good equipment, good appliances,
54:59so that some of these fires, when you look at these fires that you've just shown, they could
55:05have that ability to save some of the structures. It's not just about saving lives. That's first,
55:10that's the first priority, but also with respect to saving the property as well. And
55:18Mark, as we wrap up, there's one case quickly I'll go through. Mark Anthony,
55:23he went missing on the 1st of November. The family contacted us late. He's from the Prince
55:31Town District. And once we posted up the poster, Sergeant Evans from the Aruka Police contacted us
55:38and indicated to me that a body was found in the Aruka District on the 6th of November.
55:44We're happy to report that the body corresponded. The family was able to identify that body,
55:52albeit very late, and that he was cremated just a couple days ago, last Tuesday.
55:57So it took the entire November, December, and January to bring clues. No signs of foul play.
56:03No signs of foul play. But he was mentally compromised as well. So the family, not sure
56:11how he did get from Prince Town to Aruka, but the post mortem showed that the injuries were
56:17consistent with a road traffic accident. Yes, he was struck. Yes, there was also a similar case.
56:23That was the same case with the guy who was struck and it took a while after to identify him.
56:30Yeah, no, this is a different case. So as we end, Mark, it's very important that
56:36we ask families to report any instances of missing persons to us immediately. We will work
56:45with the police to ensure that it is reported, but get us as early as possible. And we need
56:52your assistance as well in locating some of these missing persons. So if you can assist,
56:58please follow our social media platform and contact us at 799-1453 immediately.
57:06All right. I hope you took that number. Repeat tonight at 11.30. We run tomorrow at 11 o'clock.
57:15The TV6 News is up next. Stay with us.
