03:41Good evening, Trinidad and Tobago, and to our international audience, and of course, our brothers and sisters in Grenada.
03:47This is Beyond the Tape.
03:48I'm your host, Whitney Husbands.
03:49Now, I hope that many of you had an enjoyable and safe weekend, but it seems like after every weekend,
03:55there's some sort of chaos that happens coming out, and it continues to trend.
04:00And in this case, it's the TT Rideshare incident.
04:03That is a discussion among all of us throughout Trinidad and Tobago, and also making international social media as well,
04:11because of the driving skills of the driver and making sure he had quick, swift movement to protect his life.
04:16Of course, we will dive into that and more, but today is Monday, so that means we have the captain
04:20himself who is here with us this evening.
04:22Good evening to you, Captain Ramborato.
04:24Yes, good evening, Whitney, and a pleasant good evening to our viewers on Beyond the Tape.
04:29It's nice to be here.
04:30We have a cool Monday evening.
04:31But before we dive into those details, let me just say, I know viewers would have been following the case
04:38of the missing light aircraft that the St. Vincent may have disappeared on its way to Tobago, but I know
04:47the Express Online would have posted about an hour ago, quoting the Deputy Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the
04:55Grenadines, Major St. Clair, Likop,
04:59that the focus now is on finding the passengers, and it seems as if the aircraft was located in the
05:07Dominican Republic.
05:09And I know as a Caribbean, we were all following this story, so I think some better good news there,
05:15and it seems not to be what we initially thought.
05:20Additionally, I just wanted to ask you, before we delve into the details, World Cup is in the air.
05:25Do you have a favorite team?
05:27Of course, Brazil is my team all the way.
05:29I mean, we are a bit shaky, not a little.
05:31We are a bit shaky right now, but we will have to figure it out.
05:35We have to gel.
05:36We have to gel.
05:36Yeah, and remember, Argentina won the World Cup after losing their opening game to Saudi Arabia four years ago.
05:43But we didn't lose.
05:45But, I mean, we have a lot of work to do.
05:47Yes.
05:47There's a lot of work to do.
05:48When I saw that Spain played today, they played Cape Verde.
05:53Cape Verde.
05:53And Cape Verde came out in their minds, honestly, victorious, because many persons thought that they were going to lose,
06:01like what went on with Curacao with that 7-1 victory that Germany took.
06:07In this case, they held their own.
06:09They stood their ground and it's a great victory.
06:11The World Cup is going to be interesting.
06:12I think it's going to be interesting because, you know, they've opened it up to 48 teams and every match
06:19is what you play on the field on that day.
06:21It gives the teams a chance.
06:24Yes.
06:24Well, Curacao said in their minds they won, eh?
06:26Yeah.
06:27They won that game.
06:27It was a big look for them.
06:28They scored on Germany and it's very hard to score on Germany.
06:31Yeah.
06:32So, I think most Caribbean persons favor either Brazil or Argentina or both like me.
06:38Once a South American team, I will support it because it's close to us and it's close to they play
06:44a style of football.
06:45Most of the Brazilians are closer to what we play in the Caribbean.
06:49Yes.
06:50Yeah.
06:50But we say like we are Brazilians.
06:52Say it from a very young age.
06:53Before I was born, that was something that is embedded clearly in us when it comes to World Cup.
06:58World Cup.
06:58But we have a lot of Argentine fans as well because they will be playing tomorrow that's on.
07:02So, we will see whoever you're supporting.
07:04Of course, just have fun.
07:06Be safe.
07:07Enjoy it.
07:07And it's the beautiful sport that is football.
07:10That is a global thing that brings all of us together.
07:12Now, we're getting straight into our missions.
07:15Yes.
07:15So, we did have a few missions on.
07:18We had a very busy week.
07:20Yes.
07:20And our first mission, of course, we had a female teenager who went missing.
07:27And we had to get out Adriana Robertson.
07:32And I'll tell you, the police are really keen now.
07:35Yes.
07:35Because I received a call from senior superintendent, Guy Allen.
07:39And she wanted as much information.
07:42We had this searching in an area where she was last seen standing on the roadway in the Tonopuna district.
07:50And what happened was, just a couple of hours after they were switching this area, she eventually walked into the
07:58Tonopuna police station.
07:59But they suspected that the house just beyond the river was where she was at.
08:04Yes.
08:04And they realized that everybody was closing in on her.
08:08And she made her way to the Tonopuna police station.
08:11And it ended well, but, you know, we have to remind these teenage girls that they had to be careful
08:17when they're out there.
08:18Out there is not a nice place to be alone without your guardians present.
08:24And then we had a case of, this was the team that went out there to look for her.
08:29And then we had a case of, we got her received a report of a missing young man from the
08:37penal area.
08:40And we went down there to search for him.
08:43His name is Marcus Ramuta.
08:45And he was found alive.
08:47Actually, while we were searching with his father, and this is a member there, you know, and this is the
08:54father.
08:55Just, I will explain to you why this video was taken.
08:58We were at that location, and we were viewing some CCTV footage because he would have walked out in this
09:06direction.
09:06And while we were doing so, the father received a call from his son that he was okay.
09:12And subsequently, he has returned home.
09:14So, you know, we still went out there and made the effort because the CCTV footage is key to finding
09:21somebody.
09:22And, you know, we thank the persons who allow us to view their footage.
09:28And we had a happy ending in that case.
09:32Yes, great news.
09:32But in this case, I understand that there were six children who lost their lives.
09:37What is that about?
09:38All right.
09:39So, I just wanted to highlight something, right?
09:42Whitney, when the issue started with Angelo, Tobias Plaza, Hunter's Search and Rescue Team,
09:51we began a campaign to say, you know, leave our children alone.
09:55And what we did was we highlighted the six cases for 2026.
09:59And then up came the Mercedes Lane case.
10:03I think viewers are familiar with that case.
10:07But last Thursday, a 13-year-old boy was gone down in the Marabella district.
10:14And, you know, you didn't hear much about it.
10:17But, you know, we are concerned about it.
10:20And we are saying simply to leave our children alone.
10:23That's the slogan of our campaign.
10:26We want to continue to spread that message on the Search and Rescue Team.
10:31that, yes, we need to leave our children alone and leave them out of the crime and criminality
10:37and really poor safety standards in Trinidad and Tobago.
10:44That's with respect to Angelica Jogi, who unfortunately lost her life in a jet ski accident in Tobago.
10:53And we continue to say that children are precious and we have to cherish them.
10:57And we have to do everything in our power to protect them.
11:01Yes.
11:01And, of course, condolences to the families who have lost their angels, our children.
11:08I mean, this is sad that we have to speak on matters like this,
11:11where they're supposed to be living their lives and enjoying their lives in a mutual way.
11:15What we are doing is picking up a trend.
11:17Yeah.
11:17Yeah, we're saying, no, let's stop that right there.
11:20Immediately.
11:20Immediately and raise our consciousness.
11:23So if you can speak about it in your religious gatherings,
11:27whether it be a mosque, a church, a temple,
11:29whether you could do it in your schools,
11:31whether you have access to talk show programs,
11:35you're on air all the time.
11:38You know, just spread the word,
11:40whether you're doing a podcast or a vlog,
11:43anywhere that's educational,
11:44try and help spread the word.
11:46So the consciousness will seep into the society.
11:50And we wouldn't, it wouldn't just disappear.
11:53I myself went on radio twice last week.
11:57Just to spread the word and to make sure that, you know,
12:01those listeners knew what was going on.
12:04And we have to do all in our power to stop this trend.
12:09If it is a trend and say, we want to have our children protected at all costs.
12:15Yeah.
12:15And speaking of protection,
12:16we spoke when I opened earlier on what was trending over the weekend
12:20with the TT Wrightshire driver.
12:22And thank God that he's alive now.
12:24According to the Trinidad Express,
12:26a TT Wrightshire driver escaped a robbery ambush in Laventhal on Saturday night
12:31after using his vehicle to hit one of his attackers
12:34who was later taken into police custody.
12:36The 29-year-old police that other suspect,
12:40or the 29-year-old driver told police that is,
12:43the other suspect opened fire on his vehicle during the ordeal,
12:47which police believe may have been a planned setup involving two passengers.
12:52According to investigators,
12:54the driver, who was operating a white MG vehicle,
12:57picked up two women on Independence Square, Port of Spain,
13:00shortly after 9.15 p.m.
13:03During the trip,
13:04one of the passengers asked to be taken to Wharton Branch Road in Laventhal.
13:10Police said, upon arriving at the location,
13:12one of the women got out of the vehicle.
13:14Shortly afterwards, two men approached.
13:17One of the men, armed with a firearm,
13:19announced a robbery and demanded valuables from the driver.
13:22However, the driver accelerated away.
13:26In the process, he struck one of the bandits before escaping from the area.
13:32Investigators said the gunman then fired a number of gunshots
13:35as the vehicle sped away.
13:37The second passenger later exited the vehicle and ran off.
13:41The driver was not injured and later reported the incident to police.
13:46Now, officers responding to the report
13:48recovered a spent 9mm shell casing at the scene.
13:52The victim's vehicle was also examined as part of the investigation.
13:58Police later detained a 19-year-old suspect
14:00who was struck by the vehicle
14:02while he was seeking medical attention
14:05at the Port of Spain General Hospital.
14:07He remains in custody as inquiries into the incident continues.
14:12So this is what took place.
14:14Let's take a look.
14:24Now, Captain, it is very clear
14:28that we are seeing more and more females
14:31putting up individuals
14:33because they believe, I guess,
14:34some people think females may not be able to commit serious crimes,
14:40but you could be put in place.
14:42Yes, and this is a perfect example.
14:45And I'm happy that the driver would have had a dash cam
14:49because we've seen it clearly
14:50and we've seen it for a little while now
14:52that, you know,
14:53the aid and abet in the conduct of crimes
14:56and women do play the role in crime.
14:59They may not hold a gun,
15:00but they do aid and abet
15:02and are accomplices to criminal activities.
15:07No, my issue is that
15:09this is not the first incident we saw
15:12where persons used the service
15:14and in this said location,
15:17persons were held or items were taken.
15:20And my problem is here,
15:21not everyone from the community is like that.
15:23And when it is persons really need to use the service
15:26to either go to work,
15:27to get home from work,
15:28these are the individuals
15:29that will be there to assist
15:31in getting you to your final destination.
15:33And it's going to make it harder now
15:34for when they see the location
15:36where they have to either pick you up
15:38or drop you off
15:39that they wouldn't want to take that job.
15:41Whitney, about two years ago,
15:43a TT rideshare driver.
15:46Wow.
15:47If you could look on it,
15:48and then I'll come to that.
15:53So all this is part of our setup.
15:56I'm sure it went off.
16:01The self-action of the driver.
16:04Captain.
16:05Yes, he's very...
16:06Being alute.
16:07Yeah, yeah, he's alute.
16:08He's looking around.
16:09He's sensing there's a gun
16:11placed on his head.
16:18He's keeping his eyes
16:20on the person who placed the gun on his head.
16:27So, Captain, we are seeing...
16:28So, I was making the point.
16:30About two years ago,
16:31Whitney, a TT rideshare driver
16:33from Indian Walk in Maruga,
16:35took up a Spanish,
16:37a non-national Spanish Venezuelan
16:41in High Street in Rio Claro
16:43to drop off in Penal.
16:47Unfortunately,
16:49a few days after Hunter's
16:50search and rescue team,
16:51we were able to locate his body.
16:53And that really shook the country.
16:57And here it is,
16:58another TT rideshare driver.
17:01You could understand
17:02why there's no more
17:03Uber in Trinidad.
17:05Yeah.
17:05Because they got out
17:07because there were too much crimes
17:09involving the service.
17:11And, you know,
17:12and here it is.
17:14Here it is.
17:16Yeah.
17:17It's sad that persons
17:18are trying to work hard
17:19to provide for their families
17:20and individuals.
17:21They're just, you know,
17:23looking to take away
17:25not just items,
17:26but their lives as well.
17:28Yeah, because certainly,
17:29I mean,
17:30they would not have wanted
17:31that driver to go to court
17:33and identify any of those females.
17:36Yes.
17:36And I'm sure
17:37they would have seen the dash cam.
17:39So, they would have eventually,
17:41you know,
17:41taken his life away.
17:43But kudos to the driver
17:44for being one vigilant
17:46for looking on
17:47at the situation,
17:49for taking what I consider
17:50to be good evasive action.
17:53Yes.
17:53But I am happy
17:54that you are alive
17:55and you went to the police station
17:57and made the report.
17:59Yes.
17:59Now, there was an RT incident
18:00in the McCoy area intersection there.
18:03And this took place
18:04over the weekend.
18:05And again,
18:06this is where we always say,
18:08wait a few seconds.
18:10Wait a few seconds
18:11before, you know,
18:12driving up
18:12when your life turns green.
18:14Oh, yes.
18:15So, clearly,
18:16this driver here
18:18on the left
18:19had the green,
18:20which meant
18:21that the red
18:22would have come on.
18:23Yeah,
18:24the red would certainly
18:25have had to be on
18:27for this green light
18:28to come on.
18:29There would have been
18:30no amber
18:31and no attempt
18:32to slow down.
18:33And of course,
18:34this is the result.
18:35These,
18:35because we have nowadays,
18:36it will mash up.
18:38I don't know
18:38if the driver survived.
18:40Yeah.
18:41Back to basic.
18:43Yeah.
18:43Back to basic.
18:44We mentioned
18:44when you see the amber,
18:47it's not to speed up.
18:48You're supposed
18:49to slow down.
18:50Yeah.
18:50And what he says
18:51is that even slowing down,
18:54you have to cross,
18:55no problem,
18:56but do not accelerate.
18:58That person had enough time
18:59to slow down.
18:59He had enough time
19:00to slow down, right?
19:02And you may have gotten away,
19:03but certainly
19:05that's unacceptable.
19:08Yes.
19:08And as I said,
19:10I'm not too sure
19:10of the end result.
19:12I hope persons are like, though.
19:14But at that speed,
19:14you know,
19:15you could have easily
19:16caused a fetal accident.
19:18Yes.
19:19Now,
19:19we had further east
19:20as we see in Sangi Grandi,
19:21another RTA incident
19:22that took place
19:23for you.
19:24In this case,
19:27this was hard.
19:31Whew.
19:35Now,
19:35Captain,
19:36in this incident here,
19:38we still don't have
19:39the full,
19:40you know,
19:41information
19:42as to what
19:43caused the person
19:44to lose control
19:45of the vehicle,
19:46and we don't know
19:48if the person's life
19:49was lost.
19:50At all.
19:51And is this
19:52the end result?
19:53Yes.
19:54This is the end result.
19:55This is the end result.
19:55But a young man
19:56did well to jump that gate.
19:58Yes.
19:58He was patient.
19:59He would have been
20:00severely injured
20:02or he could have been
20:03on her life
20:04with that type of speed.
20:06And thank God
20:07he took evasive action,
20:09compliments to the young man.
20:11He, again,
20:12you know,
20:13his situational awareness,
20:15you know,
20:15you have to be aware
20:17and know how to
20:17take evasive action.
20:19but certainly
20:21the driver there
20:22is at fault
20:23and that's reckless driving.
20:25All right.
20:26So as we continue
20:27right now,
20:27let's take a look
20:28at what's making
20:28our SOE update
20:30as of June the 15th,
20:332026.
20:34Number of operations,
20:367,575.
20:38Number of targets,
20:39priority offenders,
20:402,161.
20:42Searches conducted,
20:433,244 traffic operations,
20:474,526 total persons arrested,
20:513,367 total persons charged,
20:56762.
20:58Firearms recovered,
20:59we're seeing an increase
21:00with the pistols,
21:02also the shotguns,
21:03giving us a total of 188 ammunition.
21:06We're seeing an increase
21:07with the 9mm,
21:08also the 12 gauge
21:10and the 5.56
21:11along with the 7.62 mm,
21:14giving us a total

24:30A message from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
24:45And welcome back.
24:46Remember, you could give us a call at 623-1711, extension 1996 and 1997.
24:52If you're now joining us, of course, we have Captain Rambert here with us each and every Monday.
24:56And no time to waste, Captain.
24:57Let us know what's going on with Mr. Pousins in the month of June.
25:00Yes, so, Whitney, so far, for the month of June, we've had 10 reports of missing persons.
25:07And of those 10, two remain outstanding.
25:11And the two remaining are female teenagers who are well known to us.
25:17Aliyah Ali is 16.
25:19She's a repeat runaway teen.
25:23And just on Saturday, I believe, I'd ask the Western Police Station to go to tomato trees in Diggomartin.
25:34And they spotted her and she ran away.
25:36So, I just wanted to speak to the residents of the tomato trees in Diggomartin.
25:42We have a 16-year-old.
25:44She's in your community.
25:45Please call the Western Police Station.
25:49And please let Aliyah Ali get to her home where she could be under proper supervision.
25:57We've been dealing with Aliyah since she was at St. Jude's home.
26:01Okay.
26:02And she may have gotten a little, you know, break to be with the family.
26:05And, of course, she ran away again.
26:08So, we're asking residents, please call the Western Police Station there or call 999-555 or 799-1453.
26:19Let me thank the Western Police Station for responding immediately to that case.
26:25And then we have another female teenager.
26:28Now, Daniela Maraj is well known to us as well.
26:31Yeah.
26:32She has been, she's a repeat runaway teenager.
26:35And we've been dealing with Daniela since she was 13 years old.
26:43So, Daniela, from time to time, she'll get up on the phone and speak with me, yeah?
26:48When she gets her phone.
26:50So, Daniela, we're asking you to please return home to Enterprise.
26:56So, we're asking persons if you have any information on Daniela Maraj,
27:02please contact the police at 999-555 or our team at 799-1453.
27:10And in terms of general guidance, I think persons, viewers, you know the situation out there.
27:17These girls, they run away and they don't know what exists out there.
27:22And they're blind to the ways of the world.
27:26And we're asking you, if it's for them, please assist by calling the police or call us at 799-1453.
27:35Yes, now, as we remember, one of the children that you mentioned earlier, which life was lost,
27:43and this was recent, which is Mercedes Lane, there was a candlelight vigil that took place.
27:48And this was a beautiful moment to see that persons came out along with your team.
27:53They were on the truck there with the drummers.
27:55And I did this video just to demonstrate the support from the community.
28:02There are small communities along the SS Irine Road.
28:06You're looking at Rancho Kimado.
28:07You're looking at Lucy Road, Irine.
28:09And those residents turned out in large numbers.
28:14And it was comprised of male, female children coming out, you know, just to support the family and, you know,
28:23in a way to send a message as well that, you know, such behavior would not be tolerated.
28:30And they sang lots of hymns, you know, just to ensure that, you know, the march was peaceful.
28:36And, you know, this is a time of mourning and this is what we do during that time.
28:42And, you know, it's really to help the family heal.
28:46And so Hunter's Search and Rescue Team, we were there.
28:49And it was a huge turnout for just a small area.
28:55And just want to say we appreciate all those who turned out.
29:00And, you know, it's a sad, sad situation down there.
29:06But, you know, persons are responding to this healing effort.
29:10And, you know, we appreciate the effort they made.
29:13Look, there is a baby in a farm.
29:16They all came out.
29:17Of course.
29:18This is what we mean, Captain, by the village, the community.
29:22Coming out.
29:22Coming out.
29:23Looking out for each other.
29:25Being that not when an incident happens.
29:28Not in this case, it's bringing more of the persons in the community together.
29:31The village is now getting closer cohesive in a way where they will now see the benefits of us looking
29:38out for each other.
29:40And we're seeing that here.
29:41Yeah.
29:41And interacting with the residents, you know.
29:43In this case, you know, they all knew the car and the police, you know.
29:48They gave the police information.
29:50So, you know, it was like they were all concerned and any better information was important.
29:55I picked up that during the vigil.
29:58And, you know, the vigil spoke a lot.
30:03Of course, I just want to remind viewers that her funeral is on for tomorrow at 1 p.m.
30:08at the Lucero Adventist Church and then to the Lucero Cemetery.
30:16Yes.
30:16And another name that we could never forget, Andrea about.
30:19Yeah.
30:19And in this case, there was a memorial, which I know you mentioned that you are very...
30:24Well, we go to the memorial on the day that she died.
30:29We believe she was died.
30:30But this was Andrea's heavenly birthday.
30:33Yeah.
30:33And the relatives decided to visit the site in Arifo, as well as another memorial in their village of Kumak.
30:41And we support the family.
30:43Now, this was the birth of Hunter's search and rescue team.
30:46And we've remained close to the relatives.
30:48There's her aunt and her cousin there with Glenn and, again, the cousin here in this city and aunt as
30:57well.
30:58And they were a major part of her life.
31:01And, you know, it was good in the sense that it came at a time when we're focusing on children
31:11and children's rights and, you know, protecting our loved ones at all costs.
31:17Really, the family gets depressed, to be honest.
31:21This is not something you could really deal with.
31:24Her birthday and the day on which they believe she died.
31:29And they get depressed and they call us and we try to respond to us in any way we can.
31:36So, viewers, it's a timely reminder going back to 2021 and, you know, this thing about leaving our children alone
31:45ties in with it.
31:47And understanding that, you know, we have to spread the word to leave our children alone.
31:52Yes.
31:53Ladies and gentlemen, we need to take that break.
31:54When we come back, we open up before 9-3 to connect with us and more.
31:57We'll be back.

34:09New Triple Power Serum with peptides, hyaluronic acid, and vitamin C.
34:13And welcome, Mark.
34:14You can give us a call at 623-1711, extension 1996, and 1997.
34:20Now, some quick information when it comes to the town meetings with the TTPS.
34:23Remember, the Southern Division town meeting at Tableau District, Tableau Secondary School, George Village Tableau.
34:30It's on Thursday, the 18th of June.
34:33All right.
34:33It's from 6 p.m.
34:34Come out and meet with the officers in your district.
34:38That is on this Thursday coming, which is the day before the holiday.
34:43Yeah, and so it's a good time.
34:45You have some time.
34:45You have to go to work the next day.
34:47No excuse.
34:49The Tableau is a very nice district between Princess Town and Rio Claro.
34:52So we use the residents.
34:54So go there and hear the concerns.
34:57Sorry, to list your concerns and to hear the performance of the Tableau Police Station in terms of what's going
35:05on in the community.
35:06Most definitely.
35:07Now, speaking of community, I understand there was another beach cleanup that took place in Mayaro.
35:23And, you know, you have hunters from all groups, including hunters, search and rescue team.
35:28We come out to support.
35:30There was the president, Hassan Ali, and his brother, Assad Ali.
35:35And, you know, there's counselor, Shafik Hussain.
35:40We all came together and, you know, assisted in the cleanup.
35:43And, as you know, Mayaro is an area where you have the leatherbacks nesting as well.
35:49And so, you know, what happens is that the leatherbacks will mistake the plastics in the water for the jellyfish.
35:58Yes, food.
35:59And that's a big problem.
36:01And they consume the plastic.
36:03So we tried as much to remove something like 70 or 80 garbage bags of plastics and ropes and nets.
36:11These nets, they get the leatherback turtles.
36:16All turtles.
36:17And they could die.
36:18Tied up in those nets and they die.
36:20So it was a pretty good beach cleanup.
36:23And, again, you know, hunters giving up their time to organize these events.
36:30And I think right now we would have cleaned a substantial part of the Mayaroa Eastern Coastline.
36:37I don't know if any other groups have cleanups planned, but we would have done a lot of work on
36:42the Eastern Coastline.
36:44But, Captain, what you could tell individuals, oh, gosh, you all go in there to spend time with your family,
36:49your friends,
36:49or sometimes you just want to get away.
36:51It's so hard to work with a garbage bag.
36:54Yeah, it's very hard.
36:55And you see, when you look around, you still see people pulling up there by the carloads
37:01and they're having, they're consuming things to eat and drink.
37:04And they are still not without a garbage bag.
37:08It's a culture we have to develop.
37:09So you know what?
37:10I think on one of those, I hope you can join me.
37:13You think you can join me?
37:14Yes, I did.
37:15Let's get together in Mayaroa for a holiday.
37:18You know, a holiday and just share our garbage bags.
37:21And now thought of it.
37:22You know, Captain X saying there's three garbage bags and leave the garbage bag there
37:25and then the garbage out of the garbage bag.
37:27But you're thinking just how to effect change, how to, you know, develop our culture.
37:33And it's been going on throughout our beaches.
37:37And you know where you will get garbage as well on our hiking trails.
37:40Yes, yes.
37:41And so like rivers as well as another place where prisons gather.
37:44Yes, people could do much better.
37:46And I was saying that even on our hiking trails, as hikers, we have garbage bags in our bags all
37:52the time.
37:53You must have that.
37:53On the way back, we pick up all the garbage we could possibly carry and we bring it out
37:59and dispose of it in a dumpster or by our homes as, you know, residential garbage.
38:05So we could do better.
38:07We could do better.
38:07Way better.
38:08I mean, yes, we have persons who are willing to take their precious time like yourselves
38:12and the other hunters who will come out to do cleanup initiatives.
38:16But it can't be that that is what you all are there to do.
38:19Yeah, it prevents harm to the turtles and the marine environment, but it does not change
38:26the culture that's causing the garbage to arrive at our seashores, rivers, hiking trails
38:32and other spots throughout Trinidad and Tobago.
38:35Captain, what do you think when you say the culture, right?
38:37What do you think is our culture when it comes to that?
38:40Where did that start from where we're just storing things everywhere?
38:44I don't think that was...
38:44There was a time we had a huge garbage problem in the country and there was a campaign.
38:50I'm sure our producer would remember that campaign.
38:54It was called Charlie.
38:55Oh, yes, Charlie.
38:56You remember Charlie?
38:57Yes, I remember Charlie.
38:58And I think we have to do something like that to re-educate the population.
39:03But I'll tell you something as an educator, no matter what you teach in the classroom,
39:08unless the parents practice it at home, it would not, you know, be entrenched as a positive behavior.
39:17So parents, if you're listening on, you have to do your part.
39:21You have to be the role model.
39:23So if you're walking the road and you just drank a pack juice,
39:28you don't fling it.
39:29You keep it until you reach a gallery.
39:31Somewhere to dispose of it.
39:32So is it that we are saying here that a lot of persons who may dispose of items, Captain,
39:38when they are home and they finish drinking, whatever, they just sweat on the side of the counter or the
39:44bed?
39:45Instead of tossing them out of the cars, but people still, you know, just have something to drink or eat
39:50and to scare the people, you know, just like that.
39:52And we have to continue to change the culture because while we're on searches,
39:57we bounce up tons of garbage in our rivers, in our seas, all through Trinidad and Tobago.
40:03We see heaps of tires on the remote agriculture road.
40:07You saw one just now there?
40:08Yeah.
40:08The one that was taken out of the net?
40:10Yeah, and we have to do better than that.
40:15I've been to clean countries.
40:17You know, Norway is one country.
40:20Sweden.
40:21Pride.
40:21And Sweden.
40:22Japan.
40:23Japan.
40:24They pride.
40:25Do you remember that video for the World Cup?
40:29World Cup.
40:29When they cleaned up their area, everywhere.
40:32They cleaned up their area.
40:33Yeah.
40:34Anywhere they went and they cleaned up the area where other persons left.
40:38Persons were, yes, correct.
40:39Loved garbage.
40:40It was the Japanese.
40:42Yes.
40:42We could strive to that standard.
40:44And we could get there, but education is key.
40:48I always wonder, why are tires by the beaches?
40:50Well, two reasons.
40:52And I'll explain to you why they're on the eastern coastline.
40:55One is that homeowners use the tires as a means of soil erosion to protect their beach fronts.
41:04And secondly, the efficient pierogues is easier when they're getting the pierogues out of the sea to pull them up
41:12on tires and drag them on to the high up.
41:15And so we know of the practice.
41:18And so we know of the practice.
41:18And I was talking to the councillor, Shafiq Hussein, and we did say their means to address the use of
41:26tires.
41:26By the way, the councillor indicated to me that sometime tomorrow, their corporation will be getting equipment to clean the
41:34sagasome seaweed of the eastern coastline.
41:38So, you know, all wrong effort, you know, to keep the eastern coastline as clean as possible.
41:47That's right, to keep TNT as clean as possible.
41:50We have to do that, yeah.
41:50Very important.
41:51Remember, you all could also give us a call at 623-1711, extension 1996 and 1997.
41:57We'll take that short break, and when we come back, we will continue with more.
42:00We'll be back.

44:39And we are back.
44:40Now, Captain, you all usually rescue animals.
44:44Yeah.
44:45And some of the animals, some of us are not really fond of when we see them.
44:48Because the last time it was a snake.
44:50Right.
44:50And in this case, we're seeing owls, which is very interesting.
44:54Right.
44:54But I want to clear up something.
44:56It's not animals.
44:57It's wildlife.
44:58Wildlife.
44:59Because we get called for dogs and cats.
45:02Yes.
45:03Now, we will go and rescue our dog if its life is in danger and the owner calls us.
45:07Or we'll do similarly for a cat.
45:10But we're not into collecting street dogs and that type of thing.
45:14Because we don't have the resources, right?
45:16And there's only so much you could stretch a group of volunteers.
45:19So, because we're hunters, we know, we understand wildlife.
45:26So, I was, I believe, in Port Ospin, you know, I mentioned I was on a few radio programs.
45:32I just completed one in Port Ospin, 9 p.m.
45:34So, when I received a call from a few neighbors in Warrenville stating that the owner of an unoccupied house
45:42had come four days before.
45:45Yes.
45:45And he had a pigeon infestation and he drove all the pigeons out of the window area and he sealed
45:55the area with bird proofing, which is put another wire.
45:58Yes.
45:59And during the night, they heard these birds screaming and for four days, they, you know, they tolerated that.
46:10They were, they were barn owls.
46:13And so, I told the neighbors, give me the contact of the owner.
46:18He spoke to the owner.
46:20He met us and he agreed for us to take down the bird proofing.
46:24And this is, this is close to midnight, yeah, when we got there, there's tunga there and trying our best
46:33to get down the bird proofing from the window.
46:35So, they were screaming to get out?
46:37They were screaming to get out, yeah.
46:39I, I have a video with them actually hitting the wire on a previous night, but I didn't, I didn't,
46:45I didn't send it to the producer.
46:47So, that would have been very, very, you know, demonstrative in terms of the birds hitting the bird proofing during
46:54the night.
46:54So, we took our time and we removed the bird proofing.
46:58It took us a while to remove it.
47:00It was properly secured to the, to the, where the windows are supposed to be.
47:06And here it is, what we're doing here is creating an outlet so that when we got inside the building,
47:13this is me trying to, you know, loosen those wires to get, not to damage the gentleman's netting, but, you
47:21know, to take our time so that when he's ready, he would put it up.
47:26He did a good job on bird proofing the area.
47:30Clearly, because he's given you all.
47:31But, to be fair to him, he had no idea that they were burned out.
47:37So, you ever saw a burn out?
47:38No.
47:38So, you'll see one shortly.
47:41And so, when we have come, when we have finished with, with removing the, the bird proofing, we made us
47:47our way inside.
47:49And this, I was lucky to capture him because one flew out as soon as we opened the door.
47:54I wasn't able to get a video of him.
47:56And you know what happened in this case?
47:58Well, there's a window just below the barn owl.
48:02You see how pretty that barn owl is on the left, right?
48:05So, once we got in, we were able to open that window.
48:09And I stopped this video just before this barn owl ducked down and went through the window.
48:15But this is a beautiful creature.
48:17It's a barn owl.
48:18I normally will hold them.
48:21They're very soft ones.
48:23They have our gloves.
48:24They're nice.
48:25But it's not our first encounter.
48:27But immediately we opened the door.
48:30One flew out.
48:32This one flew through a window that we opened.
48:35And another was able to get out from another room before we could spot it.
48:39But, you know, the fact that he stayed there with me meant that he was very thankful for being rescued.
48:46Because it was Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, I believe it was on Wednesday.
48:51So, they were crying.
48:52They were crying out for him.
48:54Right.
48:54But that is continuous?
48:56Because we were straight into the day or only nighttime?
48:58Only at night.
48:59They would sleep during the day and try to escape during the night.
49:03But I can imagine the heat too.
49:04Yeah, of course, the heat and then, well, owls don't drink water.
49:08I found out that from one of the forestry officials.
49:13So, I have to verify it.
49:15What do they eat then?
49:16But they eat small mammals and birds and stuff, right?
49:20So, they know how to hunt.
49:22I mean, it's part of the value food chain that we have existed in our natural world.
49:29Yes.
49:30But I want to thank the vigilant neighbors for calling us and for, you know, alerting us.
49:38And I met one neighbor who said, boy, I was going to throw a fishing hook and just pulled down
49:43that YSU.
49:44Of course.
49:44Because that gentleman's property, he cooperated well and he went with us.
49:49It took us just past midnight to feed those three vannels.
49:53Does it sound like a crying baby?
49:56Yes.
49:57It's actually a loud scream.
49:59Okay.
50:00I will send you the video I have of them on the wire beating up.
50:05I should have sent it to our producer.
50:07So, when you all arrived, they were on the wire trying to get out?
50:12No, no.
50:12No, they were not there as yet.
50:15They would probably would have come out a little later on to try to escape or they were there earlier.
50:20But when we got there, we didn't see them.
50:23But we were hearing them.
50:24Okay.
50:24So, I think they knew we were present.
50:27So, try at least to get them out.
50:29So, they didn't feel any danger.
50:30We are feeling to persons.
50:32Listen, when you're out there, try and treat animals with care.
50:36You know, if you're a bird proof in your area, make sure that there would not only be pigeons there,
50:44but it could be other wildlife.
50:46Wildlife, yes.
50:47So, again, owls, it could be Manico, Iguana, but checked thoroughly.
50:51I am not blaming the owner at all.
50:54But the neighbors, I want to thank you all for raising your voices, calling us and, you know, getting help
51:02for those three barnholes that were trapped in that building.
51:06Very interesting.
51:06My first time seeing barnholes.
51:09You don't see it on, like, television.
51:11Yeah.
51:12But, like, locally in Trinidad, I'm seeing it on TV now, yes.
51:14But there are lots of barnholes already.
51:16Yes.
51:16Right?
51:17So, there are five types of owls.
51:19And once you're out there like us, you will see the species.
51:23Many different wildlife.
51:24You will see all these different types of owls, the pigmey owls, and they're all beautiful creatures.
51:29Very easy to hold.
51:30Yeah, but the movement for me with the neck kind of freaks me out.
51:33Like, what's happening there was freaking me out a little bit.
51:36Yeah, and it does freak out a lot of people.
51:38Yeah, the movement, the eyes, the staring.
51:40Well, when the first time I saw one in real life was wondering where this come from.
51:45Where did this come from?
51:46I knew it was a bird.
51:48I knew it was an owl.
51:49But it was the first time I was seeing one in real life.
51:52I couldn't believe it.
51:53It got injured and fell just outside a lady's wall.
51:59Somewhere along the corridor, the east-west corridor.
52:02And she called and I went immediately.
52:04But I'm a brave person.
52:06I mean, I just went.
52:07You don't go young until.
52:09And I didn't care if it bit me or anything like that.
52:13I had on gloves.
52:14But he placed it into a box.
52:17And thank God, it was just, it probably got unconscious for a bit.
52:23But he was able to fly out by the next night without no broken wings or bones or anything like
52:29that.
52:29So, if you have wildlife to rescue, call 799-1453.
52:37We will assist.
52:39And if we can't, we get the game wardens involved and their other organization, the Reptile Conservation Society.
52:48We could get them to come out and help you.
52:51Last week, I think, we did, we guided.
52:55I have a video, too.
52:56I should have sent it.
52:57I didn't know we could have dealt with all of that today.
53:00But a gentleman called.
53:02He had a huge, a large Cayman in his yard.
53:05Yes.
53:06And in speaking with him, we told him, listen, just open back your front gate.
53:11It came through the front gate.
53:12It will go.
53:13You see him where Cayman.
53:14Yeah, and the game warden, Steve C. Passat, and I were able to guide the Cayman, show him how to
53:22guide the Cayman, back to return in the route.
53:27He came and he was able to walk off and get to the nearest river.
53:31Yes.
53:31Now, Captain, now persons who may have some issues with cats who may, they have their owners.
53:36They're not stray cats.
53:37They have their owners.
53:38But they're going into other persons' homes and stealing food and, you know, just making mischief.
53:45What could persons do?
53:46That's a really, really difficult thing.
53:49I'm not sure what you could do.
53:52But because, you know, domesticated cats are not really caged, right?
53:58Yes.
53:58You have to train your cat to not do that.
54:02But, you know, if any of us cats come by me, they still hold them and cuddle them and pet
54:07them, right?
54:08So, I think, you know, you have to train your domesticated animals.
54:13Both cats and dogs are easily trainable.
54:16So, but, you know, when you follow pet life, you see dogs going next door to take up children's toys
54:24and people at home.
54:26You're seeing cats bringing all sorts of things to their owners.
54:28Because there's a habit, eh?
54:29By the way, in the case of the cat and the dog, they will get out there.
54:35They will hold something down, whether it's a lizard or a bird or something.
54:39And bring it back.
54:40And they will bring it back to you.
54:42Because that's their way of bringing back something for you.
54:45For the person who is loyal to them.
54:48And they share, for them to share in their hunting sports.
54:53Now, Captain, what could persons really do when the neighbors may get frustrated, they'll be fed up.
54:58And then next thing you know, you know, persons do something drastic that could cause some issues for the neighbors.
55:06So, Mr. Cats.
55:07Yeah, yeah.
55:08So, you know, I'm not too sure what could be recommended.
55:13But I know, like in the cases of house cats, you could probably keep them indoor.
55:19Force them to stay inside.
55:21Make sure they are properly well fed over a period of a three-week period.
55:25And then observe them to see when you let them go.
55:28You know, whether they will go by the neighbor.
55:30You have to train them.
55:30It's like delinquent owners, though.
55:32It sounds like that.
55:32Because if you're low in here, your cats stray all over and you're not making sure your property is secure
55:40for this pet that you want.
55:43You're distressing other persons and it's unfair.
55:45I will be cozen if I come home and see my whole kitchen ransacked because I've got to want it
55:50to eat out everything.
55:52You could appeal to those persons, you know, to train a cat and let the cat be a house cat.
55:57Because, you know, people raise cats in apartments, high-rise buildings.
56:03And, you know, they bring them down and up.
56:06And they stay in their apartment when the owners go to work.
56:09They train them.
56:10And that is what should be done if you have a cat that really strains onto others' people's property and
56:20causing problems.
56:21The worst thing to raise are sloppy cats.
56:23That's not a good thing to do because you will distress others and persons will not like that.
56:27Captain, we have a few seconds, less than 10 seconds.
56:30Yeah, I just wanted to wish congratulations to Shima Kirai and Kaleb Suknanan for graduating from primary school and to
56:41wish them all the best.
56:44All right.
56:44Thank you so much, Captain.
56:45And, of course, as usual, we hope that you have a safe one for the rest of the week.
56:49TNTB gets ready for news coming up next.
56:51Remember, on Tuesday we will see ASP Russell joining us.
56:54Godspeed.
56:55You all have a safe one.
56:56God bless.
56:56We're out.
57:08God bless.
