00:00Assistant Commissioner of Police Richard Smith was speaking when the fire alarm at the Police
00:12Administration building went off.
00:14ASP Misha Lewis then indicated to those in attendance that the building would have to
00:19be evacuated in keeping with protocols.
00:22Members of the media, staff and police officers were told to leave heavy equipment behind
00:27and to exit the building immediately.
00:30Speaking with the media shortly after, Acting Commissioner of Police Junior Benjamin said
00:34that fire officials responded and the police were following protocols as the alarm ought
00:39to have only been triggered for emergency situations.
00:43Unfortunately, I do not have exactly the reason for the emergency but I can tell you for sure
00:52when these things happen, immediately we want all officers and persons to respond in a way
00:58that speaks to a level of urgency to get out and at least allow the authorities to come
01:03and check the place to ensure safety and security before people go back inside.
01:07Benjamin said he could not indicate if everyone had been evacuated at that time or how many
01:12people were in the building.
01:14However, he explained that fire officers would be conducting floor-to-floor searches to ensure
01:20that nothing was amiss.
