00:00To the weather now, Rochelle join us. Nice working with you.
00:04Thank you. It's been quite a week. Rain, sun today
00:08it was quite a scorcher. And you hinted there would be rain over the weekend.
00:12Why is the weather so unpredictable? Well I'm glad you asked Dominique because the
00:16atmosphere's behavior is very sensitive to even small changes.
00:20So how we had Tropical Storm Jerry the other day and he affected us today
00:24with giving us some showers. But I'll tell you more at the Weather Center.
00:28Good evening
00:32Trinidad and Tobago. It's the moment we've all been waiting for.
00:36It's finally Friday. Now for the details on your
00:40weather. We're starting off with what happened today. Isolated
00:44showers and brief isolated thunderstorms affected the country
00:48into the late afternoon, trailing moisture and low level conversions
00:52behind. Tropical Storm Jerry continued to sustain activity
00:56mainly over eastern Trinidad. As the morning and afternoon
01:00progressed, some of these areas of activity spread further inland
01:04producing brief isolated thunderstorms or short periods of heavy rainfall.
01:10Over in Tobago, isolated light moderate showers approach the island
01:14with some moving on shore. Now, let's see what Port
01:18of Spain is looking like with TV6's Weather Center. Downtown is mostly clear with temperatures at 28
01:24degrees Celsius. We have winds coming southeast at 3 knots and humidity at 84%. So tonight will be mostly
01:32settled despite a few lingering showers with a medium chance of isolated thunderstorm activity.
01:38We have minimum temperatures coming in at 24 degrees in Trinidad and 26 in Tobago.
01:44Tomorrow is Saturday, so I know most of you have plans to head out. But you may want to reconsider
01:50because according to the Met Office, conditions are expected to be fair to party cloudy with a few
01:56showers and the low to medium chance of isolated thunderstorm activity favouring western and coastal areas of Trinidad.
02:04Gusty winds and street of flash flooding are likely in the vicinity of heavy downpours. Maximum temperatures will be at an equal high of 33 degrees in both islands.
02:16Looking ahead now to our two day forecast, Sunday will be mostly sunny and breezy at times despite the isolated shower.
02:24However, there is a low chance of the heavier shower or thunderstorm during the afternoon. And we are starting back the week on Monday, not so bright.
02:33With partly cloudy to cloudy periods with scattered showers and a medium chance of thunderstorm activity favouring but not limited to Trinidad.
02:42Maximum temperatures are 33 degrees in both islands on Sunday and 30 degrees in Trinidad and 31 in Tobago on Monday.
02:50All those heading to Maracas, Las Cuevas, Macri, whatever beach of choice. Tomorrow's seas are moderate with waves near 2 meters to 2.5 meters in open waters
03:01and below 1 meters in sheltered areas. But if you prefer to walk at sunrise or just taking in a beautiful sunset, sunrise is at 5.54 in Trinidad and it was set at 5.50. Over in Tobago, sunrise is at 5.51 and it was set at 5.47.
03:19And with no more hazardous seas alert, if you're planning any boating activities tomorrow, here are your Thai times.
03:26In international news now, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck off the southeastern coast of the Philippines this morning, sending panicked residents running into the streets as the ground shook.
03:49At least one person died after they were buried under rubble. The US tsunami warning system initially warned of possible tsunami waves in the Philippines, Indonesia and the island nation of Palau.
04:02But the threat had passed by midday. This is very unfortunate news.
04:07That's all for weather tonight. Have a safe and happy weekend and make sure to enjoy it. Don't go anywhere. There's more news after the break.
