The Local Government Minister has given an overview of conditions in Trinidad following the past two days of heavy rainfall which has resulted in flooding in several areas.

00:00The local government minister has given an overview of conditions in Trinidad following the past two days of heavy rainfall, which has resulted in flooding in several areas.
00:12There have been several reports of flooding. We have in the regions of Sandy Grandi, in particular, you have the 18 reports of fallen trees, most of them in the Digo Martin and Sandy Grandi region.
00:26We have three major landslides along the North Coast Road, some in Sour Lavantel, we also have a New Blanchise Road in Tunapuna-Piaco region.
00:40We have two completely collapsed roadways, one at Begues Road, Pool Village, Rio Claro, and one at Heights of Aripal in Arima.
00:53We have dispatched engineering teams to make recommendations so that we could immediately make provisions for residents to access their homes.
01:05We have reports of eight damaged roofs in Port of Spain, Princess Town, Separia, and Rio Claro region.
01:14We had one fire incident in Princess Town region amidst all of the rain.
01:21We have a lot of flooding in the Piaco, Tunapuna-Piaco region, St. Helena, Kelly Village, Carony, Kaparo, Manuel Congo, and the Piaco area.
01:35In the Sandy Grandi region, Coal Mine, North Oropuch, Vega de Oropuch, La Saiva Road.
01:40In Cova, Tabaki, Talparo region, Chinchin Road, Petersfield Road, Canupia, Las Lomas, Brazil, San Rafael.
01:51We also have in Arima and Chaguanas.
01:53I want to commend the Minister of Education last night, following our conversation with the Minister of Education, Dr. Michael Dowlatt,
02:06the Ministry of Rural Development and the Ministry of Education, coordinated to ensure that transportation was available,
02:15to make sure that every student was able to attend school-to-sit CAPE exams, despite the widespread flooding.
02:27Transport was provided in the form of troop carriers from the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment.
02:35The regional corporations provided trucks, and our disaster management unit provided dinghies or small boats.
02:44We were able to provide transport for students from Las Lomas to Chaguanas Secondary Schools.
02:52The Tunapuna-Piaco Corporation Municipal Police provided escort for students from Kunupia to Lachmi Girls and St. Francois Girls.
03:01The boats and trucks were deployed in the Penal-Debe, Sandy Grandi, Tunapuna-Piaco, and Kuva-Tabaki-Talparo region.
03:12So I want to thank the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment for their support.
03:16We have CAPE examinations continuing tomorrow.
03:20And all support systems will remain in place to ensure that students arrive safely.
03:26These are compulsory E-level exams.
03:30And so it is important for all our Form 6 students, we give you parents the assurance that we will ensure that your child gets to school and they write their exams.
03:41And we will give you the full support to ensure that that is done.
