00:02Mohammed with this
00:03special weather update.
00:04Let's get you caught
00:06up on the latest alerts
00:07for Trinidad and Tobago.
00:08A hurricane warning
00:10is now in place for Tobago,
00:11which has been upgraded
00:13to a red level.
00:13Additionally, the
00:14MetService advised
00:15that a tropical storm
00:17watch, which has taken
00:17effect for Trinidad, is now
00:21currently at the orange level.
00:21Now, we've been hearing
00:23that Tobago is bracing
00:23for a direct hit
00:25from social media.
00:25Take what you see and hear
00:29online with a pinch of salt.
00:30The truth is that we
00:32are unable to predict
00:32with precision the
00:35exact track that Beryl will take.
00:36That is to say, if it's likely
00:39to make a landfall or not
00:40across Tobago, what we do know
00:42from looking at the satellite
00:43imagery, is that we can see
00:46this system passing somewhere
00:46between Tobago and
00:49Barbados at this time.
00:49Hurricane Beryl, this
00:52category four major hurricane
00:52and a potentially devastating
00:55threat to the islands,
00:55has actually slowed
00:58a little bit and is now
00:59moving west-northwest at
01:0130 kilometers per hour,
01:02and is approximately
01:04450 kilometers
01:05east-southeast of Tobago,
01:06according to the MetService's
01:09most latest update.
01:09Beryl's hurricane-force winds
01:12are expected to bring with it
01:13heavy rains, with one to
01:15three-inch accumulations
01:15that could result
01:17in flash flooding
01:17and possibly intense
01:19thunderstorm activity
01:21that could affect the island.
01:21In addition, tonight's
01:23sea conditions are predicted
01:25to worsen drastically.
01:26Large open-water swells
01:27can pose a risk to vessels
01:30because of the system's nature,
01:30and frequent overtopping of
01:33waves onto nearby properties
01:33and roads are to be
01:36expected.
01:36Now, these higher-than-normal
01:39swells also inevitably
01:40cause some beach erosion,
01:41so if you are in Tobago,
01:43take prompt action
01:44to safeguard your
01:45property, life,
01:46and means of livelihood.
01:47If your home is unsafe
01:49or at risk of flooding
01:49or wind damage, take
01:51cover inside or flee
01:53to a secure place.
01:53Have your grab-and-go
01:56water and medication,
01:57which should be kept
01:58in waterproof containers
02:00for at least seven days.
02:01And we're seeing this
02:02system coming into view,
02:03much clearer now on
02:05satellite imagery,
02:06so by now, loose
02:08items should be fastened
02:08and outdoor drains
02:10should be cleared.
02:10Place your sandbags,
02:12if you've collected them,
02:12by each doorway leading
02:14outside your house,
02:15and for absolutely no
02:18reason should you be
02:19outside sightseeing.
02:20Now, that's the most
02:21recent information
02:21we have on Hurricane
02:22Beryl.
02:23The newscast will have
02:25another update at seven o'clock.
02:26I'll see you then.
