00:00:47 Mom says JTA has everything we need.
00:00:51 Great quality, plenty of variety, plus the freshest fruits and vegetables.
00:00:56 I get to choose more treats because mommy says JTA's prices are really good.
00:01:02 Plus, mom says we get free groceries when she uses her points from her JTA Thank You Card.
00:01:08 And, when it's time to pay, mom has the biggest smile.
00:01:12 She says her total bill always costs less at JTA.
00:01:16 That's why mommy prepares the best meals for our family.
00:01:20 I love JTA.

00:03:12 But like, head going. What's happening here? Like I grow.
00:03:16 You grow.
00:03:17 Looking like Frankenstein.
00:03:19 You know that, that is morning show that have you growing and growing, Mr. TV man.
00:03:22 Hey, hey, hey, you in black.
00:03:25 Get out here.
00:03:26 Come out here.
00:03:27 Come out here and represent the people.

00:03:32 Look at his shot.
00:03:33 The people are expecting us to deliver on to the people what the people deserve.
00:03:37 The people.
00:03:39 Are we on TV?
00:03:40 All right.
00:03:41 A very special good afternoon in Trinidad and Tobago.
00:03:43 I'm Arwin Hopkins and welcome back to me.
00:03:46 Yeah, yeah, welcome back to you.
00:03:47 Welcome back to you.
00:03:48 Yes, my name is Arwin Hopkins.
00:03:50 Welcome back to me.
00:03:53 Yeah.
00:03:55 So many things have happened over that past week, since I've been away.
00:04:01 Have you all been, and I just want to jump off on the point that you are making.
00:04:06 Yeah.
00:04:07 Because I know that the ministry of health would have sent out a statement a short while ago.
00:04:11 And it speaks about the heat that we have been experiencing.
00:04:16 And it is, Trinidad is on fire.
00:04:20 I don't mean to sound like Iowa this afternoon.
00:04:23 Yeah, yeah, do something.
00:04:24 Yeah, Trinidad on fire.
00:04:25 We need water.
00:04:26 The people want water.
00:04:27 The people want water.
00:04:28 The people need water.
00:04:29 It is a really bad state of affairs, but not only in Trinidad and Tobago.
00:04:35 You remember, you look, Alexander look what you're doing.
00:04:39 The paper, all the paper, all the napkins, come off of the place.
00:04:43 Yeah, yeah, the wind is all the way over here.
00:04:45 Hold on, hold on, hold on.
00:04:47 Give Alexander a good napkin, please.
00:04:49 Listen, inside here is a furnace.
00:04:53 I bought a corn roll today.
00:04:54 A what?
00:04:55 A corn roll, because I feel to eat a corn roll.
00:04:57 Somebody, please give Alexander a napkin.
00:05:00 Alexander cannot continue this program.
00:05:03 In this condition.
00:05:04 And I cannot be speaking to this gentleman.
00:05:07 The gentleman looking like.
00:05:09 I look like a jira buck.
00:05:12 Like an old set of gazette paper.
00:05:14 Jackie, be careful what you're going to give to him.
00:05:18 He says he must not take napkins from ladies.
00:05:20 Switch the pick there.
00:05:21 Let me see if Jackie can.
00:05:23 Let me see Jackie.
00:05:24 Let me see Jackie.
00:05:25 Hey, don't fall on that Christmas tree.
00:05:29 He says he must be careful when a woman gives you a napkin.
00:05:33 Alexander, I'm not going down that road.
00:05:37 But it has been very, very hot.
00:05:40 And as I said, the Ministry of Health has sent out some information
00:05:45 concerning this hot weather.
00:05:48 So it's not something to take very lightly.
00:05:50 I'm going to my Jamaican friend.
00:05:51 I have a fan there.
00:05:53 Oh yeah, I'm seeing a fan there.
00:05:55 But the fan is not on.
00:05:56 We have to call my boy again.
00:05:58 Larry!
00:06:00 Larry!
00:06:02 But Alexander, I have been looking at what has been happening
00:06:09 as it relates to crime.
00:06:12 And I was a bit shocked by what I saw on social media
00:06:17 over the past seven days.
00:06:20 We continue to see robberies.
00:06:22 We continue to see home invasions.
00:06:25 But what is surprising and what is startling
00:06:31 and what is troublesome and what has to be of concern
00:06:37 to everybody in this place is what is happening in Tobago.
00:06:42 Up the road.
00:06:44 Because all of a sudden, you remember the days
00:06:47 where you had one murder in Tobago and that was the big news?
00:06:51 Because Tobago felt that something had gone awry.
00:06:57 And what is this all about?
00:07:00 Well, I'm seeing the murders climbing in Tobago.
00:07:05 I'm not hearing anything.
00:07:07 So is it Tobago that is what you're accepting or what?
00:07:11 Tobago is Trinidad now or what?
00:07:14 I'm hoping not.
00:07:15 It's 300 and something.
00:07:16 So we're accepting these things or what?
00:07:18 We're accepting the home invasion or what?
00:07:21 We're accepting where you can barely walk in the street
00:07:24 and you say, "I don't like to see these things
00:07:26 "because people may feel that I'm giving the impression
00:07:32 "that things are so out of control."
00:07:35 And you know, Alexander and them--
00:07:38 We like to compare.
00:07:39 Compare.
00:07:40 Well, what is happening in New York right now?
00:07:42 Speaking about New York.
00:07:44 You understand?
00:07:45 But my point is--
00:07:47 Let me make my point.
00:07:48 Make your point.
00:07:49 My point is that these incidents of crime that we are seeing,
00:07:55 we must not become comfortable.
00:07:59 We must not believe that this is a part of the culture.
00:08:03 We must not believe that this is an everyday occurrence
00:08:07 because let me tell you--
00:08:08 And this morning I was having a discussion
00:08:10 with the criminologist, Dr. C. Passan,
00:08:14 and he agreed and I also made the statement,
00:08:19 "It is a case of the sitting duck, you know.
00:08:24 "Who is next, you know?"
00:08:26 You know, Goldberg used to say, "Who's next?"
00:08:29 Who's next?
00:08:30 Well, Marlon, let me go down this road with you.
00:08:34 Again, I draw--
00:08:36 Good afternoon to Whitney.
00:08:38 Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:08:39 Whitney was good.
00:08:40 Not Whitney Houston, eh?
00:08:41 Yeah, Whitney was good.
00:08:42 I took Whitney to the places, you know, in the places.
00:08:45 Marlon, let me share this with you.
00:08:47 Over the years, I would bring my conversations
00:08:50 on my experiences as a police officer
00:08:53 and I remember, I recall back in the day--
00:08:56 And I'll just show you how everything
00:08:57 just come together in a strange way.
00:08:59 Back in the day, when crimes of a particular nature
00:09:05 was happening in the Port of Spain, Lavantine area,
00:09:08 the people in the Southern Division, they were quiet.
00:09:13 "It's not affecting us."
00:09:15 "We have time for that."
00:09:18 And then it started to creep down slowly
00:09:21 and slowly getting faster, faster, down on their end.
00:09:26 And then they realized what the police officers
00:09:29 were saying all along, that crime has no boundaries.
00:09:35 These fellas and them marking you
00:09:36 and sometimes your own relative putting you up
00:09:40 because they want you to--
00:09:42 They find, you know what?
00:09:44 I'm going to say this now.
00:09:48 Over the weekend, I got a call from a lady
00:09:51 and her son is interested in the property more than her.
00:09:59 She has some concerns.
00:10:02 So I reach out to the boy and I told him something.
00:10:08 I'm just telling you how it is.
00:10:09 Some person's going out of their way with the Hopkinson.
00:10:13 Crime has no boundaries.
00:10:14 Sometimes you see something happening here
00:10:16 and you are wondering who from down there came and who, who, who.
00:10:19 Sometimes you got to look right next to you, you know?
00:10:22 Because everybody is about--
00:10:23 Sometimes you need to look on the bed.
00:10:25 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, right on the bed, Mr. Hopkinson.
00:10:27 Right next on the bed.
00:10:28 On the bed?
00:10:30 Well, in my case, I had two dogs.
00:10:32 You had to sleep, so you know.
00:10:34 Oh, you had to sleep?
00:10:35 Sleep.
00:10:36 You can't blink.
00:10:37 [laughs]
00:10:38 Mr. Hopkinson.
00:10:39 Tell you.
00:10:41 So when these things happen,
00:10:43 the public is now seeing the importance of everybody being on board.
00:10:47 And let me thank members of the public here.
00:10:49 It is not lost, you know, because we are seeing now, Mr. Hopkinson,
00:10:53 the homicide bureau of investigations.
00:10:56 They are achieving some goals.
00:10:59 Persons are turning up--
00:11:00 Alexander, after that, people dead.
00:11:02 Wait, let me finish.
00:11:03 Persons are turning up at the station now more than ever.
00:11:06 The problem remains, though.
00:11:09 When does homicide intervene?
00:11:11 When people dead?
00:11:12 That's my point.
00:11:13 But then, Mr. Hopkinson, then you have a certain--
00:11:15 My point has always been about preventative measures.
00:11:18 Right, but then you have a certain level of responsibility, too.
00:11:21 Are you still telling me that you don't care?
00:11:23 Well, it's not I supposed to live here and I supposed to--
00:11:26 I supposed to what?
00:11:29 Persons walking around with firearms.
00:11:31 The police alone removed about 11 guns on the nation's streets
00:11:34 between Friday and probably today.
00:11:36 You know that?
00:11:38 You know why?
00:11:39 Because we are all there.
00:11:40 I said to you before, if we control the streets, we control crime.
00:11:43 So it's not like the commission of police have mandated everybody--
00:11:48 everybody--
00:11:50 to perform certain duties.
00:11:51 I'm not going to mention what these duties are.
00:11:54 And they have given specific instructions with respect to certain individuals.
00:11:58 And I will say no more on that.
00:12:00 So we know what we have to do, you know, Mr. Hopkinson.
00:12:02 The problem is--the problem is--the problem remains
00:12:06 that we need to bring more sheep into the pasture.
00:12:12 You see? Because--
00:12:13 What do you mean by that?
00:12:14 All right.
00:12:16 Citizens say that they are like sheep.
00:12:18 They cannot do anything.
00:12:19 And they must be guided.
00:12:21 We are here, no--asking to come with us.
00:12:25 We will lead the way.
00:12:28 And all will be okay, no, Mr. Hopkinson.
00:12:29 That's what we're saying, you know.
00:12:31 You see, I have bought into your concept--
00:12:35 You should.
00:12:36 --of you control the streets--
00:12:38 You control crime.
00:12:39 --and you control crime.
00:12:40 It's a total doubt.
00:12:41 And I do believe in it because I believe that there--
00:12:45 that could be of great benefit to us in Trinidad and Tobago.
00:12:50 But when I see what transpired this morning at the Arema Hospital,
00:12:56 it tells me that there are holes as big as manholes
00:13:06 when it comes to that--that--that chant that you have.
00:13:15 If you control the streets, you control crime.
00:13:18 Consistency is the aspect that we are looking at now
00:13:21 to see how we could better design it
00:13:23 with respect to the manpower resources.
00:13:26 How can we treat with this?
00:13:28 How can we maintain the presence and visibility
00:13:33 under the present climate,
00:13:35 which speaks to a shortage of manpower, Mr. Hopkinson?
00:13:39 So now, again, the Commissioner of Police today--today--
00:13:45 put in together some strategies again
00:13:47 to try to treat with the manpower resources
00:13:50 so that we could have this constant visibility
00:13:55 and presence on the nation's streets
00:13:58 because it is important--let me tell you this.
00:14:01 Every organization, no more than ever, Mr. Hopkinson,
00:14:03 we have seen--I will tell you this.
00:14:06 Tell us this. Tell us.
00:14:08 There was a robbery in--right next door, on this side,
00:14:15 over the weekend.
00:14:18 Fifteen or more youths. Fifteen, eh?
00:14:21 You hear what I said? Fifteen or more youths.
00:14:26 Planned, orchestrated the robbery via the cell phone.
00:14:33 Who will go where? Who will attack what?
00:14:36 And all of that. Fifteen. One, five.
00:14:42 When you put mechanism in place
00:14:45 to treat with the situation,
00:14:48 sometimes the mechanism that you put in place
00:14:50 will run away, you know, Mr. Hopkinson?
00:14:54 Why is it running away?
00:14:57 Well, here the funny thing is--
00:14:58 Is there a leakage?
00:15:00 Well, let me tell you this.
00:15:02 For those who are applying for 1601, a.k.a. gift,
00:15:06 not every man who has a gift in his hands
00:15:11 is capable of using this gift effectively.
00:15:15 I rest my case.
00:15:18 You hear what I'm telling you?
00:15:19 So why are we lining up in line?
00:15:21 Next. Next. Next.
00:15:25 We're waiting for gift.
00:15:26 Everybody, "Alexander, why? Why? Why? Why? Why?
00:15:29 Why? Why? Why? Why?"
00:15:32 Mr. Hopkinson, within recent times here--
00:15:34 Let me talk to the gift men.
00:15:36 With the exception of a few--
00:15:38 And I'm commenting. I'm saying this every day.
00:15:41 I like the nature. I like the action they took.
00:15:45 But there are some persons, Mr. Hopkinson, still--
00:15:49 still--
00:15:51 they forget the song,
00:15:53 "Don't leave your gun at home, boy, take your gun to tongue."
00:15:55 You know that song?
00:15:56 No, I've never heard it.
00:15:57 It's a Western song. I'll play it for you later.
00:15:59 All right? So it--
00:16:01 So it just goes to show, Mr. Hopkinson--
00:16:03 Don't leave your--
00:16:04 Don't leave your gun at home, boy.
00:16:06 Yes.
00:16:07 Take your guns to tongue.
00:16:08 Okay.
00:16:09 You know what that means?
00:16:10 I know what it means.
00:16:11 Right.
00:16:12 I'm just going to YouTube it after.
00:16:14 Sorry.
00:16:15 So if it is that persons are applying for firearms,
00:16:19 and we're seeing certain activities taking place
00:16:22 that persons are armed with firearms,
00:16:24 and offer no resistance at all, none whatsoever,
00:16:28 Mr. Hopkinson,
00:16:29 then the question must be asked,
00:16:32 according to Thanos, to what end?
00:16:36 You know, when it comes to an FUL holder--
00:16:40 Go ahead. Go ahead.
00:16:42 You're going down that road this evening.
00:16:43 They face a number of circumstances--
00:16:48 I want you to include in your conversation
00:16:51 a security officer. Go ahead.
00:16:53 All right, a security officer.
00:16:55 A policeman.
00:16:57 But you see, I don't want to really talk about
00:16:59 security officer or policeman.
00:17:01 All right. FUL holder. Go ahead.
00:17:03 An FUL holder.
00:17:04 Yes.
00:17:05 They face different circumstances every day.
00:17:10 When they go to the bank, when they go to the grocery,
00:17:13 when they go to the fast food outlet,
00:17:15 when they go to buy a doubles or a roti
00:17:17 or some payload for lunch.
00:17:22 There are several circumstances there,
00:17:25 and circumstances that can be explosive.
00:17:31 Very.
00:17:32 Yeah.
00:17:33 And that is why you wasn't here.
00:17:35 You was not here, you know,
00:17:36 because I was hoping that you were here.
00:17:39 I was hoping that you were here
00:17:40 when something happened right outside there,
00:17:42 like this is ground zero.
00:17:45 When something happened--
00:17:46 I remember.
00:17:47 Right.
00:17:48 I heard of it.
00:17:49 Marlon, when I saw
00:17:53 the scripting conversation,
00:17:57 I was disturbed.
00:18:00 And you see, if I was on TV,
00:18:02 I would tell you something not to do.
00:18:05 Because I will tell you why.
00:18:08 Here it is that persons are defending themselves
00:18:15 against the element that seems to feel
00:18:17 that everybody is an easy target.
00:18:21 And when they defend themselves, Mr. Hopkins,
00:18:23 and I stand up for the people this evening,
00:18:26 as we approach independence,
00:18:29 we expect a certain behavior from citizens,
00:18:34 police officers, etc.
00:18:37 When I saw a written report,
00:18:40 and I saw a person's name on a desk,
00:18:42 and I said,
00:18:43 "But I spoke to Marlon about this before.
00:18:46 Why is a person still taking a person's home picture?"
00:18:50 A man was shot on a FPL hole,
00:18:54 Miss Jackie,
00:18:57 living 29A Duncan Street.
00:19:00 What is that?
00:19:01 What are you offering there?
00:19:04 Why do you have to put where the persons are living?
00:19:08 Why do you have to put all this information
00:19:10 out in the public domain?
00:19:12 Are you not putting the persons who have the FPL address?
00:19:18 An easy conversation.
00:19:20 Jackie was at so-and-so location,
00:19:23 if you want to put Jackie's name.
00:19:25 You can put Miss or Mrs.
00:19:27 Not so?
00:19:28 Or L.
00:19:30 L. Hopkinson.
00:19:32 You don't have to put on the people's whole name,
00:19:34 like for the police.
00:19:35 And then hear what happened.
00:19:37 He was confronted by two men,
00:19:40 and he had cause to legally defend himself.
00:19:44 What do you think I mean by that?
00:19:45 Go ahead. Go ahead.
00:19:46 You understand what I'm saying?
00:19:48 - I do agree with you.
00:19:50 - Yeah.
00:19:51 - That too much information is being given.
00:19:53 - And what you're doing,
00:19:55 you're putting people's life at risk.
00:19:57 Lives at risk.
00:19:58 - He had a Glock 19 pistol,
00:20:01 serial number 9122567333,
00:20:05 and 18--
00:20:06 - But Alexander,
00:20:09 it is not that that information is coming out of thin air.
00:20:13 - Well.
00:20:14 - That information is being provided
00:20:16 via an official source.
00:20:19 - Let me tell you this.
00:20:22 Whilst I will take my colleagues to task for that,
00:20:26 some of them,
00:20:28 there are some persons
00:20:30 disguised under the umbrella of media,
00:20:35 yeah,
00:20:36 and going and interviewing persons
00:20:40 and making them feel
00:20:43 that they are doing something with a purpose.
00:20:47 And these poor little people
00:20:50 on this 61st Independence,
00:20:54 giving out all the information to these people.
00:20:58 You know what a man told me the day before yesterday?
00:21:01 He said, "Alexander, if anything ever happens to me,
00:21:03 I am a thing, you know.
00:21:05 I am a different, you know."
00:21:06 He said, "If anything happens to me
00:21:08 and the police are never after me,
00:21:09 I'll live in Africa, baby."
00:21:11 You understand?
00:21:12 That's what you will reach,
00:21:14 because you are putting persons' name and address.
00:21:18 What kind of car they have,
00:21:21 where they're working,
00:21:23 their FUL number,
00:21:25 the rungs,
00:21:27 and if they get a chance,
00:21:28 they show the whole FUL in their hands,
00:21:29 and they're going away.
00:21:31 What is this?
00:21:32 What is this?
00:21:33 You're putting persons' life at risk.
00:21:36 So we're hoping that this will change,
00:21:39 and change rapidly.
00:21:40 All you have to say, as far as I'm concerned,
00:21:42 is that,
00:21:44 Mr. Hopkinson,
00:21:45 if anybody wants to feel it's easy,
00:21:47 he had,
00:21:49 he legally
00:21:51 defended himself.
00:21:53 And let the police know
00:21:57 who is doing the networking now,
00:21:59 will take statement and have all the information,
00:22:02 and that information must be taken.
00:22:04 The only how that must be published
00:22:06 is when it's taken before a court.
00:22:08 Outside of that, Mr. Hopkinson,
00:22:11 you cannot do people that.
00:22:13 And this home invasion thing too.
00:22:15 Ladies and gentlemen,
00:22:17 and victims of home invasion,
00:22:19 you're sitting in your home,
00:22:20 and taking an interview like this.
00:22:22 Well, I see me two boy and them come inside,
00:22:27 and when they come inside,
00:22:29 they kick my, look my husband there,
00:22:31 Frankie, they kick him.
00:22:33 Frankie, tell them what you see.
00:22:35 Yeah, tell them what you see.
00:22:37 And make all you want to know.
00:22:38 And make all you want to know.
00:22:39 All kind of thing, and these people,
00:22:41 this is what matters, Mr. Hopkinson.
00:22:43 And all you, and all you want to do
00:22:45 is talk to the police.
00:22:46 But as soon as a mic get in your face,
00:22:48 go in your mouth,
00:22:49 you're lapping down the place.
00:22:51 Well, Alexander, there are ways to do things.
00:22:53 You know, when I held a certain position,
00:22:57 I would do things.
00:22:59 So you don't hold that position anymore?
00:23:01 The way that I felt,
00:23:03 things that should be.
00:23:04 Reasonable man, you know.
00:23:05 Let us be responsible, Mr. Hopkinson.
00:23:07 And I have told persons,
00:23:08 and I'm sure other colleagues may frown upon this,
00:23:13 but if I feel that taking a story from you,
00:23:18 or the information that you're giving,
00:23:20 can put your life at risk,
00:23:22 I have done in the past,
00:23:24 I have told people I'm not going to take that.
00:23:26 Or I will be very selective in what I tell.
00:23:29 Yeah, yeah.
00:23:30 And you can.
00:23:31 You can send the information out there,
00:23:33 but what you're sending
00:23:34 is enough to know that something happened.
00:23:37 And not the whole story,
00:23:38 the man had issues, black and white,
00:23:41 and as he attained,
00:23:42 he pulled out the gun on the right-hand side,
00:23:44 and he fired six shots.
00:23:46 So he made it six.
00:23:47 So that means that you're 12.
00:23:48 What's going on here, boy?
00:23:49 All right.
00:23:50 Let's remind people of the numbers.
00:23:52 Could be, could be.
00:23:53 623-1711, the extensions are 1992.
00:23:57 Hey, hey, what is this going on here?
00:23:59 You see, what is this?
00:24:01 You see when you're cut and paste,
00:24:02 what is this?
00:24:03 What is this?
00:24:04 That new number?
00:24:05 Yeah, 1193, you see?
00:24:06 That new number?
00:24:07 Jackie.
00:24:08 1993.
00:24:09 1996, 1997.
00:24:12 What are we coming back?

00:26:16 Welcome back.
00:26:17 So let's deal with some...
00:26:19 um...
00:26:20 what is on the agenda now.
00:26:22 So we do have a video for you.
00:26:23 A man jumps into the water in the vicinity of the waterfront.
00:26:26 The breakfast shed era.
00:26:28 That happened earlier today.
00:26:30 And he died.
00:26:32 Well, from what I saw,
00:26:35 he did not look very well.
00:26:38 Yeah.
00:26:39 At that time.
00:26:40 And that was earlier today.
00:26:41 He was frothing at the mouth.
00:26:44 He looked to be unconscious.
00:26:46 Well, and I said this before and I just want to say, um...
00:26:50 Every time we bring the counselor here,
00:26:54 we have a conversation about suicide.
00:26:57 And the coping mechanisms
00:27:00 that some persons do not have.
00:27:03 And they cannot treat the things because
00:27:06 they do not know how.
00:27:08 They do not know who to go to and all of that.
00:27:10 So, Marlon, it's our responsibility here
00:27:13 to at least start advertising again,
00:27:16 whether it's from the Ministry of Health or whoever,
00:27:19 that persons can call if they're having an issue
00:27:22 and have a conversation probably to change your mind,
00:27:26 to persuade you from taking your own life.
00:27:29 Because it is increasing.
00:27:32 I have seen my colleagues.
00:27:34 It happened to us.
00:27:36 So we are not exempted and standing at the rear
00:27:38 in any way where this is concerned.
00:27:40 Not everybody has the ability to cope
00:27:43 with things when they are confronted
00:27:45 with some harsh realities, you know, Mr. Hopkins.
00:27:48 So, again, tomorrow I'll try to look to see
00:27:52 or communicate to the Ministry of Health,
00:27:54 my friends at the Ministry of Health, to ask
00:27:56 which, where, how,
00:27:58 what numbers we can use,
00:28:00 we can give to persons who are having issues.
00:28:03 Because too many suicides.
00:28:05 And when a country having suicide issues, Mr. Hopkins,
00:28:07 it's not a good look, eh?
00:28:09 - No. - It's not a good look.
00:28:10 - The stats will tell you that the numbers are on the rise.
00:28:13 - Yeah, it's on the rise.
00:28:14 Right, so it's not a good look at all.
00:28:15 So that's something we can address.
00:28:17 Before you go any further. - Yes.
00:28:18 - Before you go to, the Toronto Police Service,
00:28:20 Western Division, Western Police Division,
00:28:22 Senior Superintendent, Mr. Henry,
00:28:24 and his team down at Western Division,
00:28:28 they want to keep a town meeting in Maraval.
00:28:32 Maraval Police Station,
00:28:34 in Maraval Police Station town meeting.
00:28:35 This will be held at the Maraval RC School,
00:28:39 Fatima Junction, Palmara.
00:28:43 Right?
00:28:46 Parmen, sorry, sorry, Parmen.
00:28:49 I always say Palmara.
00:28:50 Right.
00:28:51 Let's--
00:28:53 - Oh, your glasses.
00:28:54 - Yeah, yeah, the glasses.
00:28:55 Yeah.
00:28:58 Parmen.
00:28:59 So, tomorrow is Maraval RC School, Fatima Junction, Parmen.
00:29:02 - Alexander.
00:29:04 - And that, yeah.
00:29:05 - Give me this, give me this, give me this.
00:29:06 - No, no, no, look at that, the 29th, which is still--
00:29:08 - Yeah, but what you're talking about Parmen and thing?
00:29:10 - Look at that.
00:29:11 - Okay, so it's Maraval RC School, Fatima Junction, Parmen.
00:29:15 - Parmen, five o'clock, all right.
00:29:17 Your finger big, big, big, blocking the whole thing.
00:29:19 (laughing)
00:29:21 - All right, so tomorrow, the 29th,
00:29:24 you can go to the Maraval RC School
00:29:28 for 5 p.m.
00:29:29 The city officer's there, they're having a tongue meeting,
00:29:32 the Maraval Police Station tongue meeting, yeah?
00:29:35 - All right.
00:29:36 - Let's go.
00:29:37 - So there was a fatal RTA earlier today
00:29:38 along Veto-Ruba-Link Road in the vicinity of South Park Mall.
00:29:42 - Yeah.
00:29:43 - The victim is 37-year-old Ezekiel Maraj.
00:29:46 - Yeah, from Point 14, I hear from.
00:29:48 Say from Point 14, somebody.
00:29:50 Again, you know this, and to me,
00:29:53 I saw another one someplace,
00:29:56 another bike man was on the road again in a second.
00:29:58 So like, something is happening.
00:30:01 Should I have a funny thing, funny way to,
00:30:04 every time there's one, there's two.
00:30:06 There's three, there's four.
00:30:07 There's five, there's six.
00:30:08 So we're asking members of the public
00:30:11 to drive for you and the other users of the road.
00:30:15 Drive for you and the pedestrian, yeah?
00:30:19 Because death is at the door, you know?
00:30:23 And let me commend the officers of the Highway Patrol
00:30:26 over the weekend.
00:30:28 Boy, you talk, but listen.
00:30:30 A man left his home coming up the road
00:30:34 and handed over in excess of a thousand and change
00:30:44 because of his speeding on the intersection.
00:30:45 Would you understand that?
00:30:46 A man left his home and paid police officer $2,000
00:30:49 on the priority bus route.
00:30:51 Polices out there doing their job.
00:30:53 They were, I think the police lasted on Saturday and Sunday
00:30:58 from about nine in the morning to about nine at night.
00:31:02 And then they came back again sometime about 11.
00:31:04 And only ticket for a man who's speeding,
00:31:06 ticket after ticket after ticket after ticket,
00:31:09 ticket down the place.
00:31:11 I said to some extent, and it's up,
00:31:13 because you know there's something we just overlook
00:31:15 in the police service.
00:31:17 How much financial support we just give to institutions.
00:31:27 That's all.
00:31:30 Because if $2,000 for a ticket on the priority bus route,
00:31:32 and let's say for the month, I catch about 40 people.
00:31:37 That's just to show you how we are really sustaining
00:31:43 a lot of things.
00:31:44 It's just that.
00:31:47 - Good boy, Alexander, like a money.
00:31:48 Let's go to Arima.
00:31:50 - Like a money.
00:31:52 - Where I would have told you that earlier today,
00:31:54 there was a fatal shooting at the Arima Hospital car park.
00:31:59 It was an employee.
00:32:01 He was killed as he drove into the compound
00:32:04 just after seven o'clock this morning.
00:32:06 - Let me ask you this, Mr. Augustine.
00:32:07 Let us wait for what it is.
00:32:10 You said that you want the police on the streets.
00:32:13 This is not really on the streets per se.
00:32:14 This is in a compound.
00:32:17 So if this is a compound of an institution,
00:32:25 then it's supposed to have the relevant security systems there.
00:32:29 Now I will take the blame for things in the streets now.
00:32:33 Although we cannot be in all locations at the same time,
00:32:35 and we are asking members of the public
00:32:37 to use their eyes and their ears,
00:32:38 deputize themselves for time,
00:32:41 and give us the relevant information
00:32:42 before they put on TikTok and Instagram and Facebook.
00:32:46 But when you have institutions,
00:32:50 and you provide your security,
00:32:53 you expect a certain type of response.
00:32:55 - So then what you're saying, Alexander,
00:32:58 you need to have armed security at hospitals,
00:33:04 at schools, at churches, at orphanages.
00:33:10 - Right, go ahead.
00:33:11 - Everywhere.
00:33:13 That's what you're telling us, you know.
00:33:14 - Are the persons in society walking around the place armed?
00:33:17 - Yes. - So then what is the problem?
00:33:19 If that is where it reaches,
00:33:21 we have brought it to that level.
00:33:23 We, every citizen of this nation,
00:33:25 who used to turn a blind eye to things happening before,
00:33:28 and say, "Well, you know, it's just a small thing, man.
00:33:30 "They're doing a little small robbery.
00:33:32 "They're hunting with illegal gun and things.
00:33:34 "They don't really shoot nobody and rob nobody."
00:33:36 And that's where we've been taking.
00:33:39 But, there's nothing to hunt.
00:33:40 They go and look for humans.
00:33:42 They go in a person's home.
00:33:44 So it's we responsible for that.
00:33:47 So when you're ready, tell me.
00:33:49 Armed persons, get your armed security network,
00:33:54 and give yourself a fighting chance.
00:33:56 That's what I say. - We're coming back.
00:33:58 (upbeat music)
00:34:03 (upbeat music)
00:34:07 (upbeat music)

00:36:30 Good evening, Tobago.
00:36:31 We see ya. We see ya.
00:36:33 [singing]
00:36:38 A very special good evening.
00:36:42 And really condolences to members of the Calypso Fraternity
00:36:47 and also the Gospel Fraternity
00:36:49 following the passing of Denise Plummer.
00:36:53 This morning I would have spoken about it.
00:36:55 But to persons who do not know us yet,
00:37:00 yes, Denise Plummer has died.
00:37:03 That was confirmed by Tuko.
00:37:05 It has been confirmed by her relatives.
00:37:07 Of course, she was battling with cancer for some time now.
00:37:14 And, well, the fight ended.
00:37:17 Yeah?
00:37:19 How come this cancer situation
00:37:23 has been around since everybody was young
00:37:28 and they can't seem to get a finger on it at all
00:37:30 because sometimes you think everything is good and then...
00:37:34 So that's something in your life
00:37:37 that we like to see somebody get some,
00:37:39 or some doctors get a good cure for it.
00:37:41 If you detect it early, you have a fighting chance.
00:37:44 But if you detect it a little too late,
00:37:46 well, then the chances of you surviving are very slim.
00:37:52 Of course, I can't remember whether it was ever published
00:37:57 when she was diagnosed with cancer.
00:37:59 But I think that we, members of the media,
00:38:02 only knew of her diagnosis maybe in the past few months.
00:38:09 Not two or three months, but maybe let's say the past year
00:38:12 or something like that.
00:38:14 So we knew that she was having some difficulty
00:38:17 and some challenges.
00:38:19 We remember there was even a concert that she held
00:38:22 so that funds could be raised.
00:38:24 So really, condolences.
00:38:26 She was a pioneer.
00:38:28 And we all know about her introduction into Calypso,
00:38:33 the challenges, and we looked at this lady throughout the years
00:38:38 and she just developed and she just took the fraternity by storm.
00:38:43 So it's a very sad day for the Calypso fraternity
00:38:46 and also the Gospel fraternity.
00:38:48 Yeah?
00:38:50 Let's go to Maloney now.
00:38:52 Maloney, Maloney, Maloney.
00:38:55 Alright, let's go to Maloney.
00:38:56 Some persons were talking about this yesterday.
00:38:59 Maloney, look, Maloney, look.
00:39:01 [Gunshots]
00:39:03 Oh, Jesus Christ.
00:39:05 [Gunshots]
00:39:07 All of this going on now with Maloney.
00:39:10 [Laughs]
00:39:12 Oh, now, members of the public, this is what I've been talking about.
00:39:16 This is what we have grown to accept,
00:39:20 according to this goodly gentleman here.
00:39:24 We have grown to accept that because still, still we wait.
00:39:28 Still, persons are not seeing the weapons of war
00:39:32 as being a threat to human life, apparently,
00:39:36 because they are still on the nation's streets
00:39:40 and they are being dealt with or treated just like having a pistol.
00:39:46 The weapon of war continues.
00:39:48 You're hearing it.
00:39:50 That is no pistol.
00:39:53 That has magazines to load.
00:39:55 It sounds like a jackhammer.
00:39:57 Yeah, yeah. It sounds like it's knocking down the place.
00:40:00 Maloney, I know you're fighting hard,
00:40:04 the good citizens of Maloney.
00:40:07 You're fighting hard to bring your community to a level of peace.
00:40:13 I know that you're fighting hard.
00:40:15 You're using law enforcement, but they continue.
00:40:18 And you know what is strange, Maloney?
00:40:21 You're trying to settle down.
00:40:22 Just when you think all is going well.
00:40:24 Some building brings some men in the building to sleep
00:40:29 and to terrorize and do things to people.
00:40:32 If every community in Trinidad and Tobago, people already run in.
00:40:35 So you run from Mova, 2nd Caledonia, you're going up Maloney.
00:40:38 Shots again, so you run from Maloney.
00:40:41 Where you going to next? Carapo.
00:40:43 You run from Carapo, shots.
00:40:45 You run Arima, shots fired.
00:40:47 You run down Central, home invasion, shots fired.
00:40:50 And before you know it, you're leaving Miss Hopkins.
00:40:52 You have nowhere to run anymore.
00:40:55 You have nowhere to run.
00:40:57 So let us stop running.
00:40:59 Let us stop running.
00:41:02 I know someone is going to say, "Alexander, give me my thing and we will stop running."
00:41:09 Give you your thing and you will stop running.
00:41:12 Some of us make a valuable contribution and have nothing
00:41:19 other than their eyes, their heads and a telephone.
00:41:21 Yeah?
00:41:23 That sounds a bit like me.
00:41:25 It sounds like Hopkinson.
00:41:27 Let's go to Cuva.
00:41:29 Let's go to Cuva.
00:41:31 Yeah.
00:41:33 Cuva, boy.
00:41:35 Remember the public?
00:41:38 Here we go again.
00:41:40 [Silence]
00:41:50 A lot of secrets have been stored here this evening.
00:41:53 So according to the caption here, it's a man distressing a family.
00:41:57 Yeah, yeah.
00:41:59 This is the third incident.
00:42:00 So this is a person known to them.
00:42:01 Yeah, and not only that.
00:42:03 A person they have held in their bosom.
00:42:05 The Cuva police.
00:42:08 The police are saying, "And Cuva, Cuva, Cuva, Cuva."
00:42:10 There are some people working in Cuva.
00:42:12 Cuva, they are saying that you all are not responding to this in the manner which you are supposed to.
00:42:18 I understand this man was living with some woman in the area there.
00:42:21 And the woman left him with good cause because he is of a violent nature.
00:42:25 He is of a violent protemporary.
00:42:27 So, and she left.
00:42:29 And now he is taking it out on everybody.
00:42:31 He is coming and he is mashing up cars.
00:42:33 He is mashing up.
00:42:35 He just, his name is Mashup.
00:42:36 He is mashing up everything.
00:42:37 You hear what he said?
00:42:38 We are going to the police here now.
00:42:40 Go and bring them now.
00:42:42 What?
00:42:44 It sounds like the man in Mova the other day.
00:42:47 And before we end this program, we are going to go to Mova.
00:42:50 We are going to talk about Mova, Caledonia and them people in Caledonia.
00:42:52 Alright, so this man, this man is ripping apart a community in Cuva.
00:43:00 Citizens are saying that they are going to the Cuva police station and calling.
00:43:05 I have to call my colleague, the senior superintendent, Mr. Simon there.
00:43:09 Because when I saw this, I said, "No, something is wrong."
00:43:13 They said this is the baddest man in Cuva, you know.
00:43:18 El Bado, you know, he is breaking up windows.
00:43:20 He is breaking up doors.
00:43:21 He is breaking up, he is mashing up vans.
00:43:23 El Bado in Cuva.
00:43:27 Yeah?
00:43:30 Look at him, yeah, yeah, look at him.
00:43:31 He is mashing up the people's vans.
00:43:33 A variety of vehicles.
00:43:35 His daughter, that is traveling to and from school, you know.
00:43:39 I tell you, the fellow looks like he is willing and able to separate himself.
00:43:47 One, two, he is moving on to a third.
00:43:49 Yeah, that is the third.
00:43:50 You will see his collection in a while, Mr. Hopkinson.
00:43:53 Members of the public, this is unacceptable.
00:43:56 Because some citizens will become annoyed.
00:44:02 And then put themselves into trouble.
00:44:04 So the first thing they are engaging is law enforcement.
00:44:06 They are engaging law enforcement.
00:44:08 Law enforcement, we cannot let the people down.
00:44:11 So Cuva police, if you are watching me now, you know this man, go and bring this man over.
00:44:16 Look what this man is doing.
00:44:17 Maliciously damaging things and the next thing is going to reach somebody.
00:44:21 He will reach somebody and then it is a murder.
00:44:25 You must investigate.
00:44:27 So he mashed up three vehicles.
00:44:30 Look at his behavior.
00:44:32 Look at his actions on display.
00:44:34 He is viewing for you to see.
00:44:36 Yeah, look at this.
00:44:38 Two.
00:44:40 Mr. Hopkinson, there is only so much a man can take.
00:44:43 There is only so much.
00:44:46 Three.
00:44:48 So much a man can take.
00:44:49 It is hard, it is hard, it is hard, over hills and valleys.
00:44:53 But that is unacceptable.
00:44:57 So Cuva, Cuva, Cuva, Cuva, Cuva.
00:45:01 I am calling on my colleagues in the Cuva police station.
00:45:06 Let this not continue.
00:45:08 Somebody will be seriously injured or killed.
00:45:15 Whether by this man or someone is going to seize the opportunity to confront this man and something can happen.
00:45:25 Let us not reach that level.
00:45:27 Respond Cuva, respond.
00:45:28 Respond Cuva, respond.
00:45:30 That is a new mantra.
00:45:32 Respond Cuva, respond.
00:45:33 Respond Cuva, respond.
00:45:35 Good evening caller.
00:45:36 Hi, good evening.
00:45:38 Good evening to you all both.
00:45:40 I am having a problem with my neighbor.
00:45:42 I don't know if this is the right place but I just need some help.
00:45:45 Tell us which of the guys you are.
00:45:47 I have a dog.
00:45:48 The dog is tied by my window.
00:45:53 The dog barks at 7 in the morning, half past 5 until she comes home whatever time.
00:45:57 She goes back out at 2pm, the dog barks from 2pm until she comes back whatever time.
00:46:03 Are you renting?
00:46:04 No, it's the AGC.
00:46:07 No, well you know that's not… you haven't engaged the AGC?
00:46:11 No, I don't know what to do.
00:46:14 I went to the police station.
00:46:16 I called you and they said they will pet him.
00:46:20 But it's nothing and then I have a grandmother, she has dementia.
00:46:24 Recently I was in an accident, I was bound.
00:46:27 I am on sick leave.
00:46:28 It brought on good ego.
00:46:30 And the dog barks all day in my head and I feel sick.
00:46:33 That's the dog?
00:46:35 That's the dog in question?
00:46:36 That's not the dog.
00:46:37 It's two dogs.
00:46:38 She has one by my window and one lower down.
00:46:41 So why is she putting a dog by your window?
00:46:42 Why is she putting a dog by your window?
00:46:43 Why is she putting a dog by your window?
00:46:44 Huh?
00:46:45 Why is she putting a dog by your window?
00:46:46 She has the dog tied by the wall.
00:46:48 So my window is right there by the wall.
00:46:51 You don't see the dog?
00:46:52 I don't know, sir.
00:46:54 Huh?
00:46:56 I don't know.
00:46:57 I only see the dog when she comes home and the dog barks.
00:47:01 But when she's there, the dog don't bark.
00:47:03 As she leaves, the dog barks several times non-stop.
00:47:06 But does she stay at home?
00:47:07 But does she stay at home?
00:47:08 But you say it's an AGC development?
00:47:09 Yeah.
00:47:10 Yes, it is.
00:47:11 Alright.
00:47:12 Well, my advice is that…
00:47:15 What area is this?
00:47:16 This is Maribar, Arima.
00:47:18 Arima?
00:47:19 Maribar, Arima.
00:47:20 Yeah?
00:47:21 Make contact with the HGC because I know that that is not a part of policy, eh?
00:47:27 To have pets at HGC developments, eh?
00:47:30 So I suspect that that is something that…
00:47:33 And it's a single unit.
00:47:34 It's a single unit?
00:47:36 Yes, it is.
00:47:38 Yeah, but pets, I don't…
00:47:40 Pets, businesses, things like that.
00:47:43 I don't know.
00:47:44 It's just not allowed.
00:47:45 It's just that the dog is tied all day.
00:47:47 When she leaves, she can untie the dog.
00:47:49 And when we tie up the dog, I don't know what's happening.
00:47:51 Oh, the yard is fenced?
00:47:52 Oh, the yard is fenced?
00:47:53 I don't hear you.
00:47:55 Is the yard fenced?
00:47:57 Hello?
00:48:00 Is there a fence around the property?
00:48:02 Yes, there is a fence.
00:48:03 There is a fence.
00:48:04 There is a fence.
00:48:05 Yeah.
00:48:06 Alright, okay.
00:48:07 Alright, well, as I said, make representation to the HGC and see what sort of assistance
00:48:13 that they can get.
00:48:14 I want to ask one more question, my lady.
00:48:15 Go ahead.
00:48:16 Where is she working?
00:48:18 She works at the pet store.
00:48:21 When they leave in the morning, half past five, the dog barks.
00:48:25 So if I work shift, if I want to have two hours extra rest, I can't get the dog bark.
00:48:30 My grandmother has dementia.
00:48:32 She's very depressed over the dog.
00:48:34 Other people have problems with the dog, but because I talk about it, she uses it with me.
00:48:39 Alright, well, make a call.
00:48:42 And I will ask my friends at the HGC if anything can be done there.
00:48:48 And as soon as you file a report, send it in.
00:48:50 And what you can do is to send us a copy of the report that you sent to HGC.
00:48:55 Yeah.
00:48:56 We would like that.
00:48:57 Yeah.
00:48:58 Yeah.
00:48:59 No problem.
00:49:00 Because we are here to do it.
00:49:01 Send the report to beyondthetape1@gmail.com.
00:49:06 Beyondthetape1@gmail.com.
00:49:08 Okay.
00:49:09 Yeah.
00:49:10 Thank you.
00:49:11 Thank you very much.
00:49:12 And we hope that you get some assistance soon.
00:49:14 I think the dog is hungry.
00:49:15 We should feed the dog.
00:49:16 We're coming back.
00:49:17 Let's take a break.
00:49:18 Colgate Total gives you a superior antibacterial protection for whole mouth health.
00:49:30 It helps stop problems before they start.
00:49:32 So you're dentist ready.
00:49:33 Mr. Walker.
00:49:34 Oh, am I early?
00:49:36 Be dentist ready with Colgate Total.

00:51:02 In Trinidad, we have to become very creative and we need to have legislation for imps too.
00:51:09 You know, because sometimes in this life you are trying to work hard, do everything that is good, be a law-abiding person, and then you always have some imps, some dotish imps doing some foolishness.
00:51:24 So to the legislators and them, let's try to get the imps legislation.
00:51:30 Legislation only for imps.
00:51:33 Let me tell you the latest.
00:51:35 Let me tell you what police is looking at at this time.
00:51:38 There are a number of persons who are living in certain residences.
00:51:42 They are in their home. They are creating a system in their backyard.
00:51:47 And next thing you know, in the backyard, every Saturday night, party, hearty, party all the time.
00:51:56 Saturday night fever.
00:51:58 Sunday night collision.
00:52:00 All of that. They are having it in place.
00:52:02 Saturday night fever. Sunday night collision.
00:52:05 What can I say? Friday night coughing.
00:52:09 All of that. They are in the money party.
00:52:11 And hear what they are doing.
00:52:13 They are telling police officers.
00:52:15 We must be smart.
00:52:17 They are telling police officers, "Well, this is a private residence."
00:52:20 But hear what?
00:52:22 Whenever money is being charged, whether online or offline, cash or otherwise,
00:52:31 is being charged to persons to come to occupy these premises, the game changes.
00:52:42 So for those who live in different places and all this calculation taking place, be careful.
00:52:49 You have to get the relevant license to do that.
00:52:54 And let me just go a little bit into this because we say we will hold on to this evening because we are getting some information.
00:52:59 A man put up on the social media something about a marriage trade.
00:53:06 And what he is saying is that the marriage trade is corrupted in some way or another.
00:53:14 And he called the person's name only to realize that the marriage trade does not have the person's name that he calls under his system.
00:53:24 And they are putting up these things on social media and expect to get away.
00:53:30 But the police has become very skillful in the land of the hummingbird.
00:53:36 We are dealing with every color crime there is now.
00:53:38 If you put on a white color, we deal with that.
00:53:40 If you put on a blue color, black color, any color crime, we deal with that.
00:53:44 But I will tell you this.
00:53:46 For those who continue to behave like that, according to the police, run.
00:53:54 According to the who?
00:53:55 The police.
00:53:56 Oh.
00:53:57 According to the police, run.
00:54:01 What do you mean?
00:54:03 Let's go to Mar-a-Val.
00:54:05 This was from last week, right?
00:54:07 Look at this.
00:54:12 How does this term to be a law abiding police?
00:54:16 Explain that to me.
00:54:17 When everybody committing a crime, let me tell you something.
00:54:19 One, two, three, four.
00:54:24 Is it okay to carry a man inside?
00:54:26 Oh, okay. One of them is a victim.
00:54:28 Yeah, they stuffed him in the man's mouth and carried him inside.
00:54:31 Remember the republic, how this could be accepted?
00:54:35 How this can be accepted?
00:54:39 How the citizens sit down and say, "Well, all right."
00:54:42 "No, they're hungry. They're looking for food."
00:54:46 You feed them.
00:54:48 Why you don't feed them?
00:54:49 Call them home by you.
00:54:51 Feed them in bowls.
00:54:54 How this could be accepted?
00:54:57 Imagine you're on the inside and see your brother coming inside with a tiny hand and something stuffed in the mouth.
00:55:05 7.62 for everybody.
00:55:09 5.56 for everybody.
00:55:12 9 for everybody.
00:55:15 Yeah?
00:55:16 And when you finish, call the police.
00:55:23 Because this is unacceptable.
00:55:26 This is ridiculousness.
00:55:31 They don't care.
00:55:32 They are robbing you.
00:55:34 They are hurting you in the process.
00:55:39 How do you reach out to a gentleman after he went through this ordeal?
00:55:43 After that day.
00:55:44 Let me ask you this, Ms. Hopkinson.
00:55:45 So let's say for some reason this man went through this and we give him a gun.
00:55:50 Tell me, tell me what lecture,
00:55:54 tell me what counseling session or how many you have to go through.
00:55:58 How do you see somebody coming there looking funny and moving all how gunshots mean forward?
00:56:04 It is difficult to deal with it because you cannot tell me.
00:56:07 How you can reach to that stage where you get so calm?
00:56:09 "Well, you know, I was robbed before, but I understood my robbers."
00:56:15 No, you can't understand that.
00:56:17 How do you bring this man to the level where he's not humble again?
00:56:22 No way.
00:56:23 Yeah.
00:56:28 I hope you're paying attention to this.
00:56:30 After going through a situation such as that, your mind is tainted forever.
00:56:35 And you know what person I said?
00:56:37 "Well, training, training, you know, police officers."
00:56:42 And among other persons, sometimes you go there, Ms. Hopkinson, with no intentions to kill anybody,
00:56:48 but because they would have invited their actions, would have invited their own deaths.
00:56:54 Sometimes you have to go home and talk to yourself, you know.
00:56:57 And then you can go to the counselor because we just go and get counseling, right?
00:57:01 But, and this has come down to this.
00:57:04 Police officers like to, you know, when they do something, a lot of persons like to come see me and say,
00:57:09 "Get ready, give me a report, give me a report."
00:57:11 But no, I can't give you no report until I went through my whole session, you know.
00:57:15 You understand what I'm telling you?
00:57:16 No, no, let us be honest.
00:57:17 Alexander boy.
00:57:18 You have to be careful, boy, because these, these persons...
00:57:21 Pardon, I'm not on you, you know.
00:57:23 No, don't do that.
00:57:24 Don't do that.
00:57:25 Hello, hello, hello, what?
00:57:27 Let us go through the counseling session and let the counselor tell me,
00:57:30 "Alexander, you're in a position where you can now address this situation."
00:57:34 It's as simple as that.
00:57:35 This is not 1938, you know.
00:57:38 No, it's not, it's not 19-nothing.
00:57:40 Because we are going to that.
00:57:42 It's 2023.
00:57:43 Yeah, we're not going to that.
00:57:44 And we must be, we must be honest and fair with these persons.
00:57:47 You know what somebody's asking me, "Alexander, Alexander, how do you manage to,
00:57:52 what can we do now more than ever to motivate these young charges
00:57:56 into coming out there and, and detecting crime and, and all these things?"
00:58:00 You know what I told them?
00:58:01 Yes.
00:58:03 I told them some of them just need to be encouraged in the right way, you know.
00:58:08 Motivated.
00:58:09 Explain to them, sit to them and have a conversation.
00:58:12 Be honest with them and support the efforts of the South Kensington.
00:58:16 So, Alexander, when the man asks you for your report, you call him partner?
00:58:22 Yeah.
00:58:23 No, no, no.
00:58:24 He's coming back.
00:58:25 Partner, you know, come back.

01:00:07 Weekend exercises net four firearms and six suspects.
01:00:12 Several persons are arrested and four firearms and a quantity of ammunition seized by officers
01:00:17 during multiple anti-crime exercises conducted across the country over the weekend.
01:00:23 Alright, so a number of areas would have been visited by police.
01:00:27 We control crime, we control the streets, we control crime.
01:00:30 Look at these firearms and subconscious.
01:00:32 Look at that gun there.
01:00:34 Look how many lives are saved.
01:00:35 They're walking around with bulletproof vests.
01:00:38 Yeah? Magazines, pistols.
01:00:41 Yeah? Narcotics.
01:00:44 You went to Mearo?
01:00:46 By what?
01:00:47 You went to Mearo?
01:00:48 For what?
01:00:49 But they say they had no house.
01:00:50 All the houses in Mearo rented out over the weekend.
01:00:54 Yeah, because things were floating up on the sea.
01:00:56 You see what Trinidadians do?
01:00:58 Just imagine that. Everything's floating up on the sea.
01:01:00 If I tell them, "Come to Mearo. Let's plant some trees."
01:01:04 Nobody's coming.
01:01:05 But things float up when you see everybody up in Mearo.
01:01:07 You can't get no place for rent.
01:01:09 Some houses are 19 people.
01:01:12 Yeah?
01:01:13 And people put all their family to take rentals
01:01:16 because they think that something will float up in their direction.
01:01:19 And when it floats up and you get it, and we catch you,
01:01:24 you have to go to court for possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
01:01:29 because I know you're going to get a whole kilo.
01:01:31 So, Alexander, what you're saying is very, very interesting.
01:01:35 So, you're telling me because there was a drug bust recently
01:01:40 where the police would have found these items, right?
01:01:44 So, you're telling me that people from other areas would have heard the news
01:01:49 that drugs--
01:01:50 Floating up at sea?
01:01:52 Floating up at sea, and they would have left their community--
01:01:55 They left their lawful homes.
01:01:57 --to go to sea if they can't get drugs?
01:01:59 Yeah, they left their lawful homes, Mr. Hopkinson.
01:02:01 Wow.
01:02:02 And going up there.
01:02:03 The senior superintendent of the Eastern Division, Mr. Khan, and his team,
01:02:07 working day and night, day and night.
01:02:09 So I told them they're looking sleepy, but they have to stay there
01:02:13 because you know why?
01:02:14 Persons are receiving death threats and gunshots already fired in the area
01:02:19 for persons who they believe are in possession of some of the items.
01:02:23 Let's take a call.
01:02:24 Good evening, caller.
01:02:25 Good evening, caller.
01:02:26 Good afternoon, Mr. McIntosh.
01:02:28 Yeah, how are you?
01:02:29 Yeah, my man, Superintendent and Jackie.
01:02:32 I want to talk about two rapid response.
01:02:37 In the case of sometimes in your house and you call the police,
01:02:42 now some of the police, they're a little slow and inexperienced,
01:02:45 so they ask you, "How old is the man?"
01:02:48 Which one of the windows is shut up by?
01:02:51 And all of a sudden, by the time you hear him,
01:02:53 that's the man looking to make way inside of you, you understand me?
01:02:56 So even though that you have your FUL and you want to shoot,
01:03:00 you still want to call the police because they might say, "Excessive force."
01:03:04 So you want to call the police first and make sure before you bring him down.
01:03:08 But by the time the police ask him, "Is that a tall man?"
01:03:12 He's got his skin all darkened.
01:03:14 Some of the police respond, "So-and-so."
01:03:16 Now the second response, and the same response as that, is the ambulance.
01:03:22 The people on the ground sick, they're not breathing.
01:03:26 The people in the ambulance or the hospital here, is the person breathing?
01:03:31 Okay.
01:03:33 You have them sit up?
01:03:37 Are there any movements at all?
01:03:39 And they're delaying the person gasping for breath.
01:03:43 These are the emergency response people need to be trained more efficiently
01:03:49 so that we obtain that.
01:03:52 Because we want the police alone in general field have to respond and be quick in everything.
01:03:59 So I'm saying, and finally, these people that you see using all these firearms,
01:04:05 superintendent, we see it over and over, the law is for the lawless.
01:04:11 But these fellas and them, they're not getting good judgment at all.
01:04:15 After these men get bail and come back out, they do the same thing again.
01:04:21 So we have enough places for us to make a big jail.
01:04:24 These fellas could plant the whole akuma, we get dashing cassava right through the air,
01:04:30 and hope them bring me the ferrari more steps.
01:04:34 I bet you things will change.
01:04:36 But we have too much of a lawyer, too much of a good lawyer in Trinidad.
01:04:39 Bless you this evening.
01:04:41 So let me say this, let me tell you this early o'clock.
01:04:45 Jail is no longer to punish the individual for his crime.
01:04:49 It is to reform the individual for the crime.
01:04:53 Yeah.
01:04:55 That a good?
01:04:56 Yeah.
01:04:57 Well, listen to the script.
01:05:00 There's a jail called Cala Choka.
01:05:03 Cala Choka has committed a murder with a pickaxe in the United States.
01:05:09 They try all kinds of things to get off.
01:05:12 You know this drug seller?
01:05:14 You're on death row.
01:05:15 Death row is not to reform.
01:05:16 Death row is a way to get your throat cut.
01:05:18 You understand me?
01:05:19 I hear you.
01:05:20 I hear you.
01:05:21 I hear you.
01:05:22 Yeah, so we have to be serious here, man.
01:05:23 All right, Marlon, I'm all ears.
01:05:24 And before you go, before you go, did you call the 999 or you call the station when you're
01:05:28 talking about the scenario there?
01:05:30 Okay, well, sometimes you call the 999 and say, well, the 999 responded, but sometimes
01:05:37 you call the station.
01:05:39 It depends on how quick you get your number and what you're doing.
01:05:43 So sometimes you call 999, be busy with that call too.
01:05:46 But I'm not saying they're bad at responding, you know, but I'm just sure they cannot respond
01:05:50 because somebody breaking in the door and they're trying to call and they're trying
01:05:53 to call.
01:05:54 Every time you're waiting for that there, it's like me.
01:05:57 When I call you, they have to come in from another agency one time too.
01:06:02 All right, Cola.
01:06:04 I hear you.
01:06:05 Where are we at exactly?
01:06:06 But let me just share this with you all.
01:06:09 Pertinent information to me is important when something is happening at your home.
01:06:15 Pertinent information, right?
01:06:18 Now, in the nighttime, you might ask what the man have on another night, might be able
01:06:21 to see.
01:06:22 What I can tell you is this, I'm seeing two men.
01:06:25 I live at so and so address.
01:06:27 If you're coming down in the street, there's a man with three yard.
01:06:29 You understand what I'm saying?
01:06:31 Cola, officer, I'm seeing a car.
01:06:33 Hold on, let me see.
01:06:34 Yeah, PF 2929.
01:06:38 It is parked there.
01:06:40 It was not there before.
01:06:41 It seems that it would have come with the men and all these little things important.
01:06:44 Alexander.
01:06:45 Yes, sir.
01:06:46 Good evening.
01:06:47 Thank you.
01:06:48 Thank you.
01:06:49 Cola, good evening.
01:06:50 Yeah, I love it.
01:06:51 Yeah, hi, good night, good night.
01:06:52 Just calling concerning the little incident that happened in Tebib over the weekend there.
01:06:56 I just want to share my little view on it.
01:06:58 So a couple of years back, it had this entity and who came to Trinidad and they wanted to
01:07:03 do the man and all for, I should say, for performing, right?
01:07:07 Because it had a young lady in the club who was not supposed to be there.
01:07:11 I want to know if people don't check IDs again in clubs.
01:07:14 What you are doing in this club at 17 years old.
01:07:16 That is one.
01:07:17 I'm not blaming her for being there.
01:07:18 I want to send my condolences to the family and stuff.
01:07:21 What I'm saying, we really watch these things.
01:07:24 She's 17.
01:07:25 They're not supposed to be in the club.
01:07:26 The next thing is to have security.
01:07:27 She's supposed to be home.
01:07:28 Nobody checking, nobody to walk in the club again.
01:07:30 They don't have security to check.
01:07:32 That's all.
01:07:33 I don't listen to nothing.
01:07:34 You're 17 years, you're home in your house.
01:07:36 That's what I say.
01:07:38 Anytime you're 17 years and you're all partying at night, you have to be with your mother
01:07:42 and your father.
01:07:43 You see, when all they like is she's just 16 years old and leave her alone, they say,
01:07:49 separated by fools and all kind of thing.
01:07:52 Yeah, all they like them things.
01:07:53 They go to jail for that.
01:07:55 Who sings that?
01:07:56 Journey?
01:07:57 Hey, she's coming back.
01:07:59 Journey sings that now.

01:08:37 The communal spirit of the Best Village Competition flourished under the direction of the late coordinator, Joyce Wong-Sang.
01:08:44 During her tenure from 1963 to 1986, she established a rapport with performers,
01:08:51 ensuring that they had all they needed to give their best showing.
01:08:55 Recognizing that the Best Village Competition also needed community support,
01:08:59 Wong-Sang introduced free supporters buses.
01:09:02 These were sent into the villages on performance days,
01:09:05 ensuring that anyone interested in seeing their community group in action was able to do so.
01:09:11 Her relationship with performers and community members set the standard for future Best Village officers
01:09:17 who have taken up the mantle working with community groups, organizing events,
01:09:21 and fostering a culture of collective effort to ensure success.
01:09:25 As we enter the 60th year of the Prime Minister's Best Village Trophy Competition,
01:09:30 the spirit of community remains the heart of the experience.

01:10:28 You know I wrote a song long time ago called Gone Fool?
01:10:31 Yeah, Mr. Gone Fool.
01:10:34 If you, everybody wants a gift because they tell themselves that's the solution to the pollution.
01:10:39 I think that's terra fabulous.
01:10:41 Terrible?
01:10:42 Terra, terra.
01:10:44 Listen, gone fool, because everybody thinks it's the solution to the pollution.
01:10:49 This time, I say that it's nothing.
01:10:52 But, take a look at what some people do.
01:10:54 This is a foreign video.
01:10:56 Take a look at what some people just do when they have their gift and absolutely nothing to do.
01:11:00 Take a look at this.
01:11:02 It's graphic, yeah? It's graphic.
01:11:08 Start to sing a slow song, Mr. Hopkinson.
01:11:10 Start to sing a slow song.
01:11:12 Hum something, Mr. Hopkinson.
01:11:13 [Humming]
01:11:20 You see?
01:11:21 Wait, wait, wait.
01:11:22 Wait, wait, wait.
01:11:24 Show it to us again.
01:11:25 Show it again.
01:11:26 Start by humming.
01:11:27 Look, look, look, look.
01:11:28 Oh my word.
01:11:29 Yeah.
01:11:30 Bring it back to Jackie.
01:11:32 [Humming]
01:11:38 Titanic song.
01:11:39 [Humming]
01:11:42 Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
01:11:44 You see?
01:11:45 Who is this boy?
01:11:48 I don't think he was deliberate.
01:11:49 You don't think he was? No, he wasn't deliberate?
01:11:51 He's facing the gun, looking down the barrel and trying to see the mechanism of the gun.
01:11:57 Wow.
01:11:58 That is what they call a gone fool.
01:12:00 Alright?
01:12:01 But then, take a look at this.
01:12:05 Another foreign video.
01:12:07 And it's not to say that, let me say this before I go, Marlon's going to criticize me, but I'll take the yay for this.
01:12:12 Over the weekend, I saw this.
01:12:16 Average shootings in the United States.
01:12:20 I'm just telling you.
01:12:22 So when my colleagues are saying, "Alexander, boy, we can't come back here, we can't come back here."
01:12:26 You can't stay there either.
01:12:28 You can put it in your pipe and smoke it.
01:12:30 You can't stay certain places because everybody having gun issues.
01:12:34 Everybody, nobody, nobody is exempted.
01:12:38 We are having gun issues here.
01:12:40 Persons are having gun issues there.
01:12:42 You see?
01:12:44 There are persons right now in Ukraine.
01:12:48 Two? They had war, Mr. Hopkinson.
01:12:51 Gun issues.
01:12:52 Take a look at this.
01:12:59 Who are you?
01:13:04 This is where?
01:13:06 Jamaica?
01:13:07 Yeah.
01:13:08 Jamaica, Jamaica.
01:13:11 Gunshot.
01:13:13 We hear it now. We hear gunshots.
01:13:19 This is a robbery in a bank.
01:13:21 What?
01:13:23 You hear that?
01:13:34 Well, I'm hoping that the financial institutions in Toronto, Bayborough, we all have mechanisms in place
01:13:42 in case some wayward person with some wayward thoughts waywardly enters the bank and decides to stick him up.
01:13:50 I'm hoping that we have mechanisms in place where the knobs are pressed and persons are able to...
01:13:56 Let me tell you this.
01:13:58 There's some place right in Tonga. I don't want to tell you which it is.
01:14:00 Right in Tonga. If you go in the place, right?
01:14:02 And you go to steal.
01:14:05 You'll just see some smoke.
01:14:08 And I come and I meet you there.
01:14:10 Yeah.
01:14:11 I come and I meet you right inside the place.
01:14:14 It's like magic.
01:14:15 Yeah, yeah.
01:14:16 We have to start to think in advance.
01:14:19 You can't think when you reach the door.
01:14:21 You have to think in advance.
01:14:22 Your body has to keep in advance.
01:14:24 And stop thinking by the door.
01:14:26 Good evening, caller.
01:14:28 Caller, good evening.
01:14:29 Good evening, Marlon. Good evening to you, officer.
01:14:31 Marlon, I was looking for you and you can't involve this for me.
01:14:33 Nothing happened.
01:14:34 But then today we were outside.
01:14:35 There didn't be any camera.
01:14:36 Marlon?
01:14:37 Nothing happened.
01:14:38 Nothing held.
01:14:39 He went and see the girls that run in the World Games.
01:14:44 Go ahead, sir.
01:14:46 Mr. Alexander, the last time I spoke to you, I said you were eating off the tree.
01:14:50 This time I think you're eating in the pot now because the pot spoon is spreading.
01:14:55 And Mr. Dixon said you're short like about 1,400 persons.
01:15:01 Yeah, yeah.
01:15:02 And so the question I want to ask, civilians, would civilians be considered to sit,
01:15:09 to operate from the reception area of the TTPS?
01:15:13 Now, the reason I'm asking that, I mean, to kind of free up one or two others,
01:15:17 is it that officers have to be in uniform or civilians could be operating in this reception area?
01:15:24 Because once I think somebody is there in uniform, you know, Marlon, Miss Jackie,
01:15:29 free to go out and in case a call come in to go out and answer.
01:15:33 But what about when law enforcement is there and it means nobody to answer a call,
01:15:39 is somebody in distress?
01:15:40 So I'm just wondering if civilians could fill that role, I mean, with the correct education and qualification and so forth,
01:15:48 but at least have an officer present so that persons will feel a little comfortable they're not just talking to a civilian.
01:15:55 All right.
01:15:56 You know, I know the Commissioner of Police, well, she shared no such information with me in terms of her intentions,
01:16:02 whether that is concern or anybody else.
01:16:04 However, my suggestion remains the same.
01:16:06 We have some able-bodied men that have left this job because they have reached the age for retirement.
01:16:13 But they are able-bodied, good, structured persons who would have performed well.
01:16:20 Alexander, I'm not supporting that.
01:16:22 I'm not supporting that.
01:16:23 There are too many young people out there that deserve jobs.
01:16:28 Right?
01:16:29 These men and gentlemen would have retired.
01:16:32 They have gone home now.
01:16:33 Let the gentlemen and women go.
01:16:35 Let me say this, Mr. Hopkinson.
01:16:36 Bye-bye, everybody.
01:16:37 Let me say this.
