00:00On today's Toy Spot, we're going to be having a look at Stargate Atlantis, Series 1, Lieutenant Colonel Shepard.
00:20Many of you probably are saying, hey, are you into Stargate Atlantis? You bet I am.
00:25Probably one of my favorite shows.
00:27Granted, the show no longer is on TV.
00:29We've got Stargate Universe.
00:31Really haven't gotten into that show yet.
00:33I might just wait until it comes out on DVD.
00:36But a big fan of Stargate Atlantis.
00:38A huge fan, really, of SG-1.
00:41And I had not warmed up to the Stargate Atlantis until I started buying the DVD sets.
00:47And as soon as I did, I think I ended up liking Stargate Atlantis much more than SG-1.
00:56So, getting these figures was a very, very rewarding experience for me.
01:02I ended up getting these on Big Bad Toy Store during a clearance of these figures.
01:09They were clearing out a lot of these figures.
01:11And I picked up a whole lot of them.
01:12I don't remember what I paid for them, but, I mean, the price was certainly something I didn't want to
01:19pass on.
01:20And so I picked these up.
01:22Before we actually look at the figure, let's look at the packaging.
01:25The packaging is a very nice blue.
01:27And as you can see in the background here, we've got the Stargate ring.
01:32And we've got just some trees and shrubbery down below there.
01:38Very nice.
01:39Picture there of...
01:42I want to see, is it Joe Flanagan?
01:45I think Joe Flanagan, who plays Colonel Shepard.
01:49And I really, I like his character, I think, a lot more than I like...
01:58I'm trying to think of Richard Dean Anderson's character.
02:02Not Mitchell, because that was Ben Browder.
02:10I draw a blank.
02:11And anyway, really like the character.
02:14Let's look at the back of the packaging.
02:16Says, Lieutenant John Shepard served the U.S. Air Force as a pilot before he was discovered
02:22and possessed the rare ATA gene needed to operate ancient technology.
02:27After joining the Atlantis expedition, Shepard was forced to take command of the mission's military operations,
02:32where his quick thinking, military training, and devotion to duty
02:36have made him a crucial part of the Atlantis team.
02:39And it gives other read-ups, but the other read-ups are for the other characters.
02:42So I'll wait and do those when I'm ready to do the reviews here.
02:47And it's, with these characters, you can complete the Stargate characters in Series 1
02:51and Series 2 of the Stargate Atlantis line.
02:54Each contain a piece of the Atlantis-style Stargate.
02:57It says, collect one of each character to display your own figure-sized display.
03:03I am very looking forward to getting the figures opened up and getting the Stargate on display.
03:09When I actually get these guys together, or taken out,
03:14I'm going to do a review of the Stargate on its own, just because it's that fantastic.
03:19It also says you can receive a free Steve the Wraith figure
03:24with four proofs of purchase details inside.
03:27It's probably past the point that I'm going to be able to get this guy for free.
03:31Anyway, but at any rate, there's packaging on Lieutenant Colonel Shepard.
03:35Let's get this guy opened up, and we'll get a closer look at the figure.

03:44Like I said, big fan of Colonel Mitchell and Shepard.
03:50I think Shepard's one of my favorites, though.
03:53Now that we have the figure out of the packaging,
03:55I just want to also touch base on the fact that this is the brochure that you get with the
04:01figures,
04:01and it shows all the characters from Series 1.
04:05There is also a PX Previews Exclusive Field Ops Shepard,
04:09which looks to be the exact same figure.
04:11The only difference is they've included the vest on the figure.
04:15It also includes SG-1, Stargate SG-1 Series 4 Desert Camo Assortment.
04:24On the back, however, this is where you can send away for your free Wraith figure here.
04:33And I'm guaranteed it's past the point that I can get the free figure.
04:39Kind of sucks, but oh well.
04:42So a little brochure comes with the figure.
04:43Now let's get a look at John Shepard himself.
04:49And I've got to say, this is a fantastic figure.
04:51The likeness on this figure is just mind-blowing.
04:57I love the detail that they've done on the figure itself.
05:02Definitely looks like Joe Flanagan.
05:05I hope I have that right.
05:08But a really nice-looking figure.
05:10They did a great job.
05:12You can see the Stargate Atlantis logo on the one sleeve.
05:17The United States on the other.
05:20And certainly this was, being that this was from the early seasons,
05:25this is when they originally had the gray outfits.
05:28And then later on, Mitchell.
05:32I want to keep saying Mitchell.
05:33That's the thing.
05:35Shepard eventually started wearing the black outfit.
05:38The sleeveless black outfit there.
05:41But it's nice to get this figure and then the later figure,
05:44because then you can see the progression of the character itself.
05:49As you can see, he has a...
05:52Actually, he's got an array of accessories.
05:54We'll go through these one at a time.
05:56He's got his handgun.
05:58Let's get him stand there for a second.

06:05I mean, for the size of it,
06:05you can see there's a little bit of a gray wash on the black as well.
06:10And as you saw, he holds it really well.

08:54Now, looking at the articulation of the figure.
08:57The figure actually excels well in both the sculpt.
09:00But also the articulation.
09:02I mean, I was very surprised for how much articulation these figures have.
09:05He has a ball-jointed head.

09:14I think it's actually just a swivel joint shoulder.
09:18Kind of moves out in and out just a slight bit.
09:21He has a rotation in the bicep.
09:24You can bend the elbow.

09:32And you can bend the leg.
09:35You can rotate the thigh.
09:37You can bend at the knee.
09:39And you can also bend at the...
09:41No, you can't bend at the foot.

09:46But, I mean, pretty decent.
09:47I mean, it's a pretty decent articulated figure.
09:50It does seem a little stumpy to me, leg-wise.

09:59Overall, I'm really looking forward to getting the rest of these figures out on display.

10:34And hopefully I can learn to get the rifle in his hand a little bit better for the upcoming figures.
