00:00Just because he's a primate, doesn't mean he has to be primitive.
00:03Here's your look at the brand new Hyatt toys, Godzilla vs. Kong, Exquisite Basic, Kong 2.0.
00:21Legend collide as Godzilla and Kong, the two most powerful forces of nature, clash on the big screen in a
00:26spectacular battle for the ages.
00:27As Monarch embarks on a perilous mission into the fantastic uncharted terrain, unearthed clues to the Titan's very origins and
00:34mankind's survival, a conspiracy threatens to wipe out the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the Earth
00:40forever.
00:41This brand new Kong 2.0 figure stands 16 centimeters tall, crafted with attention to detail based on the original
00:47CG data, faithfully reproduces every aspect of Kong's appearance from Godzilla vs. Kong, showing Kong's unstoppable and majestic stance.
00:55The figure is meticulously detailed with multi-layered paint applications that highlight his intimidating eyes, robust musculature, and battle-scarred
01:03chest, reflecting decades of combat.
01:06This whole time, Monarch's been trying to trace back the clues and the origins of Kong, but I feel like
01:10the origins of Kong may be a little bit closer with that of a previous mold.
01:14Sounds like riddles right now. Hopefully it won't be riddles after this review is done.
01:17Before we actually get a closer look at Godzilla vs. Kong 2.0 Kong, first I'd like to thank the
01:22folks over at Hyatt Toys that did provide this sample.
01:24This figure is slated to drop the fourth quarter of 2026. The price online, $58.99.
01:31How tall is he going to be? Let's answer that right now.
01:33The tape measure is telling us that Kong 2.0 stands 6 inches in height, making out to a figure
01:39that's about 15 centimeters tall.
01:41And wouldn't you know it, while we're looking at Kong 2.0, I can't find Kong 1.0, so I
01:46can't bring him in for this review.
01:47I did say, though, earlier that this version of Kong may actually be borrowing a lot of things from a
01:52previous mold of Kong.
01:53And I bring the example in right now. This is the Godzilla X Kong, the New Empire Kong.
01:59Short of maybe, yeah, the color is being slightly different. This one now is brown. This one a little bit
02:03more gray.
02:04I do feel like, though, there's probably a lot of elements of this Kong that is using the previous mold
02:09of the previous Kong.
02:11Another Kong that we can also bring in, this is Power Glove Kong from Godzilla X Kong, the New Empire.
02:15And, of course, slightly smaller. While it's not 1.0 Kong, it's a slightly smaller Kong.
02:20This is the one from Kong Skull Island. This might prove to be one of the most accessorized Kongs.
02:25Not only does the figure have swappable hands galore, but he does also, of course, come in clue with his
02:30axe.
02:30What remains, at least, though, of Mechagodzilla, and right over there, he also comes with two swappable head sculpts.
02:36Maybe we'll look at first, though, the axe. This is the axe that we get from 2.0 Kong.
02:40Not having, again, the first release of Kong. This is the Kong that we got. This is the axe we
02:44got from the new Empire Kong.
02:47It seems like me, at least. I'm looking at the two, and it does look like they're identical.
02:52I say identical. Obviously, the paint's a little bit different on this one.
02:55It does seem, though, that the spike is a little bit of a darker metallic blue than the original one
03:00before.
03:01But I would not be surprised at all if it's not the exact same mold.
03:04Of course, this can be also held in his hand, along with what also can be held in his hand.
03:08And the head and, I guess, spinal cord remains of Mechagodzilla.
03:13Now, I like Mechagodzilla. I didn't honestly like him in Godzilla vs. Kong.
03:17I thought it was just, I don't want to say too mechanical, but there was something really lacking, I feel.
03:21Maybe you just need a bigger bulk to him.
03:23There is some possibility, surprisingly enough.
03:25You can rotate his head and what's left behind that.
03:29You can rotate at least the head all the way around.
03:31There's no mouth articulation, I thought, by the fact that there looked almost like a hinge right here that you'd
03:36be able to open and close the mouth.
03:38But, no, no, that's not the case at all.
03:40I feel really like this would be able to glow, but, of course, for that, you'd have to get yourself,
03:45like, a light source and find a way, of course, to shine a light constantly on the stem remains of
03:49Mechagodzilla.
03:50But, at least, though, we get ahead.
03:52We're kind of ahead already of the previous Godzillas already.
03:55Well, I guess that's not to be fair.
03:56The Godzillas from before have also come in clue with quite a lot of hands.
03:59Maybe not as many hands as these ones.
04:01Right now, though, in the end, well, one socket on the end of the forearm, I've got already a gripping
04:06hand.
04:06I did that because, at the beginning of the review, I had the figure rotating, holding his trusty axe over
04:11his shoulder.
04:13The figure does also come in clue with another gripping hand.
04:15So, if that's the one for that, that would be, then, the hand for that, so that would be the
04:19opposite side for that.
04:20Another gripping hand.
04:22You'll see a common trend with all of these is that the coloring on these is a lot more of
04:26a brown, a chocolate brown, versus the gray we looked at before.
04:30It comes with, also, again, a couple of gripping hands.
04:32Some of these hands are actually a little bit better suited for holding, like, Mechagodzilla, so, like, you just have
04:37to stretch the plastic just a little bit.
04:39You can heat this also up with a hairdryer or hot water if you prefer.
04:43Or just pry, again, the hand away from the palm.
04:45You want to kind of get it around the thumb.
04:47And, as you can see, he can hold quite well, too, the head.
04:51Nothing else, of course.
04:52The rest remains of Mechagodzilla.
04:54So, we'll just kind of put that off to the side.
04:56The figure does also come in clue with a couple of exciting gestured hands.
05:01Giant monkey jazz hands.
05:03Well, they're not really so much jazz hands, but nice mauling hands.
05:06Plotting hands.
05:08Would he be smart enough to start to plot the taking of the world?
05:11I don't know.
05:11Maybe.
05:11Then he also comes in clue with knuckle-dragging hands.
05:14So, like with other Godzillas, or like with other Kongs before, like this one right here, you can actually get
05:20this guy walking around on his knuckles.
05:22And, actually, you know what?
05:23We'll do that right now.
05:24One issue I kind of had, really, with this King Kong, and I hope that I haven't said Godzilla this
05:29whole time.
05:30One problem I have, though, with Kong is the changing of the hands.
05:33When you go to pop the hand off, I find, like, the post of the peg isn't long enough.
05:39So, like, when you, for example, try to get a new hand on there, I find a lot of times
05:43the hand then pops completely off.
05:45Now, that may not have a lot to do with the stem of the peg.
05:48It may just be the fact I don't have this completely inside the peg hole or the peg socket.
05:53Pressure, pressure I put on this.
05:54Pressure I'm putting on myself.
05:55Of course, they get this all in his hand.
05:57But, yeah, I'm probably going to have to heat this.
05:59I feel better, maybe, with hot water.
06:01We'll have to come and revisit that again.
06:04There we go.
06:04That's the sound, really, you want to have it make.
06:07This one other hand I've already, again, swapped out.
06:09Oh, no, I didn't actually swap that.
06:11I swapped it back.
06:12Pop this hand off.
06:14Let's see if we at least can get something going here.
06:16Pop the new hand in place.
06:19Which, again, like, is very difficult.
06:21This also does, by the way, have a ball joint right at the end of the forearm.
06:25And I wouldn't really say that I'm going to put all the blame on that.
06:28But I find, like, that sometimes does move up.
06:31And it kind of gets further away.
06:33It kind of starts removing how much stamina it has to work with.
06:37Then, to get the hand on there, you may have a harder time.
06:40Oh, my God.
06:41We're just going to come back to that.
06:42We'll come back to it because I don't want to eat up all this time.
06:44Again, really, really what you want to have is a satisfying snap of the hands properly popping back into the
06:51forearms.
06:51I'll have better luck, though, looking at the head sculpts for Kong.
06:54Just get him to stand here for a second.
06:57Okay, so he gets two other heads outside of just the regular neutral face that he has.
07:02I'm going to bring this in right now.
07:04And you guys can let me know for yourselves.
07:06Are these the same head sculpts?
07:08If you were to ask me, I would say yes.
07:10I think the only thing short of maybe changing the color from the gray to the brown.
07:15They've also gone in there and painted clearly the gums and the teeth a slightly different color.
07:20But it does seem, though, unless this one has a slightly furrier chin, that might maybe be the only thing
07:26that's different, really, between the heads.
07:28Because it does really look like they are using, if not for maybe the exact same head sculpt, maybe they're
07:33borrowing over a lot of similar aspects to it.
07:36I'm looking, though, at Godzilla.
07:38I'm looking at King Kong's ears.
07:40The ears look to be the same size.
07:42The beard, if I can get my finger out of the way.
07:45Yeah, you know, I'm looking at the beards.
07:48They also look like they're identical.
07:49So it could very well be just a case that there's a color swap between this one and this one.
07:53But in fact, the molds are exactly the same.
07:57Maybe challenge this as well.
07:58This is the other screaming head that we get included with this new version of Kong.
08:02This is the original one.
08:04And say, again, the original one.
08:05This is the Godzilla X Kong, the new Empire Kong.
08:09Yeah, obviously the coloring of the inside of the mouth is slightly different.
08:12This one has much more yellowish teeth.
08:15I will say one thing, though, that 2.0 Kong does maybe a better job at.
08:20The eyes seem to pop a lot more.
08:23Now, they're going with a different route when it comes to their eyes.
08:25They're trying to give them more of like a glass eye effect.
08:28And it does make the eyes, I feel, a lot more realistic.
08:32But I feel maybe these eyes do pop a little bit more than the original one.
08:36But it does seem still like they are using the exact same head sculpts.
08:41Move that off to the side.
08:42And actually, you know, while we're also at it, too, bringing Kong 2.0.
08:46Here's the original Kong.
08:47I kept wanting to really look at the body parts and still see if I can find something about one
08:52that is different from the other.
08:54The shoulders look to be the same.
08:56The biceps, triceps, and furry forearms of Kong all seem to be the same.
09:01He also has the same scarring here on the front as well.
09:03Yet, though, I still feel like maybe the eyes are a little bit better approached here for Kong.
09:07They seem like they're a little bit more orange.
09:10You know, one before may have had to work a little harder.
09:14Oh, there we go.
09:15With maybe just the light hitting it just the right way.
09:18Yeah.
09:19I think aside from that, though, they may, in fact, be using the exact same bodies.
09:22It's just picking, of course, your poison as to whether you want to go with a gray version of Kong
09:27or if you like your Kong a little bit more brown.
09:30I kind of be honest with you.
09:31I kind of like Kong being a little bit more gray myself.
09:34Not saying, though, that the brown doesn't work here for Kong 2.0.
09:38Adding the brown again, if you like your monkeys a little bit more brown in color, the face looks fantastic
09:42on it.
09:43Whether, again, it is the same one as before, I think, like, the paint does make it a lot more
09:47shinier and more realistic.
09:49He still has the scar, though, on the front of his chest, so that hasn't changed at all either.
09:54I have still one issue, though, when it comes to Kong, and that's still trying to get his feet to
09:58balance.
09:59With everything that they've perfected on these figures, whether this figure is just a recopy repeat, they have still yet,
10:05I feel, to fix the problem with the feet.
10:07The feet, first of all, are curved.
10:09They're not flat-footed, for example.
10:12And then on top of that, I don't feel like there's never nearly enough hinging, a space enough right above
10:18the foot where you can actually move the feet properly.
10:21Like, I always kind of constantly feel like when I'm putting Kong down, I have to lean him forward to
10:26get him to stand the best.
10:28Now, of course, when you do have his arms moved forward, for example, that's going to cause a little bit
10:32of, well, maybe not, maybe not, when it comes to displaying this guy.
10:36So if you, like, for example, wanted to put, like, Mechagodzilla's head in his hand, or maybe, again, even the
10:41axe, I guess he stands okay.
10:43Again, there's just that one little bit of issue.
10:45I feel like maybe for future Kong figures, just a lot for a little bit more space for that hinge
10:50to work.
10:51So you can actually, you know, or maybe, again, like it's just a little tighter on this figure.
10:54Now, see, now I'm starting to move it.
10:56Maybe that was the issue the whole time.
10:58For Kong's articulation, though, like, we're just going to move his arms out of the way, his head's going to
11:03be, first of all, on a ball joint.
11:04And I feel like I'm saying that, and it downplays how good that ball joint actually is.
11:09First of all, it's a ball joint in the sense that there's a ball joint here, and there's one that
11:13you can't see that's still inside the neck.
11:15So right away, the head can actually move a lot more than you'd expect it would.
11:19In addition to that, though, Kong does also have a ball joint at the base of the neck.
11:22So he's got one here, and he's got one here.
11:26Between those two, the Kong figure can actually move his head quite freely, even all the way around.
11:31It can also rock back and forth, too.
11:33So if you want to have a pose going for that.
11:35Maybe, you know what, I'll also add it, too.
11:37Let's pop out one of the heads.
11:39I failed miserably trying to change out the hands.
11:41Let's see if we actually fare a little bit better changing out the heads.
11:43There's obviously the socket hole on the inside.
11:46Pop that onto the peg.
11:48Will we get the same sound that we got for the hand?
11:51Not quite.
11:52But I think it's still firmly attached on there.
11:55Yeah, that's a great-looking head sculpt for Kong.
11:58And again, too, even if it is the case that they're using the same body as the previous Kong,
12:02with having now three different head sculpts to work with,
12:05yeah, I could have really one Kong with just a regular, very stoic look to his face.
12:10And then I could have a screaming Kong maybe holding, again, the remains of Mechagodzilla in his grasp.
12:15For his arms, his arms do rotate all the way around.
12:18Now, he does actually have a socket joint, or a part that conceals the joint on the top of his
12:23shoulder.
12:24So while normally, though, again, like if it wasn't for really this,
12:27you'd probably be able to see like a completely open area for his armpits.
12:30These do a well-enough job of kind of finishing off everything so it looks complete.
12:35But his arms do, again, rotate all the way around.
12:36No issues really there.
12:37Arms also hinge outward as well.
12:40When it comes to his bend, the elbows do bend with a double hinge.
12:44I can already say, from the memory that I had a Kong 1.0,
12:48the previous Kong, the first Kong that we got,
12:50always had an issue when it comes to his elbow bending.
12:53The new versions of Kong, not even just this one,
12:55but like all the Kongs we've started to get lately,
12:57have all had much better articulation when it comes to the elbows.
13:01Hands rotate all the way around.
13:02They hinge back and forth.
13:04The top of the torso is going to be on a very good ball joint.
13:07Now, there's actually several ball joints.
13:09It isn't just one.
13:10There's one to the top that's going to move up and down,
13:13forward and back.
13:14You can technically, too, rock it.
13:16There's a secondary ball joint, kind of mid-area of the stomach as well.
13:19So you can rotate it all the way around that way, too.
13:22Feet move forward and back.
13:24There is a hinge out there as well for the legs.
13:26There is a secondary hinge right here above where the,
13:29I guess, halfway up the thigh.
13:31There's also a double hinge on the knee.
13:33And now that I feel like I've loosened it up a little bit,
13:35because it was actually giving me problems earlier,
13:38yeah, I do feel like maybe the feet,
13:39they're not, they haven't fixed them completely,
13:42but they certainly seem like they're a lot better than they were
13:45when I first got Kong out of the packaging.
13:47But there's 2.0 Kong.
13:50Maybe it is more just a case that it's cosmetic changes to the Kong.
13:53So in actual fact, while it's still, yes, being the same body as this one,
13:57it's just a case whether you like brown instead of more gray.
14:01Because again, we've gotten a lot of Kongs before,
14:03like even the one with the power glove.
14:04I know that's not really the name of the power,
14:06that's not really the name of King Kong.
14:07But the one, though, that we got from Godzilla X Kong,
14:10the New Empire, with the augmented arm.
14:13He's been gray.
14:14The one over here as well has also been gray from the New Empire.
14:17Generally, though, there hasn't really been a lot of just regular brown Kongs.
14:21Even the one from Skull Island kind of borderlines more to be gray
14:24than it does to brown.
14:26So I think one thing at least could be said for this one,
14:28the benefits of getting this figure,
14:30if you already have the ones before,
14:31you have, first of all, the head for Mechagodzilla,
14:34so that's still great to see.
14:35And then you have a different color choice,
14:37a different brown instead of just the gray.
14:39I like the look of this Kong.
14:41I mean, again, like I'm used now to the body
14:43because, again, we've already gotten this one before.
14:45But I got to say, like, even if the changes are small
14:48and they're still marketing this as 2.0
14:50as being a vast improvement,
14:52what has to be at least taken away from this
14:54is that it's a vast improvement from the original King Kong.
14:57It isn't so much a vast improvement from the previous Kongs,
15:01the ones that we've most recently got.
15:02Because if that's the case,
15:04and you're trying to compare the two,
15:05this Kong really only varies only in his color.
15:08The cosmetic Kong, or 2.0 Kong if you prefer,
15:12is again slated to drop the fourth quarter of 2026
15:15for $58.99.
15:18I'm not generally bothered by the fact
15:20that Haya really hasn't changed too much from Kong,
15:22from one Kong to the other.
15:23Because to look at this one and look at the articulation
15:26and even like the accessories that he has,
15:27he really doesn't veer that far off
15:30from the Godzilla X-Kong,
15:31the new Empire Kong that we've already had a look at,
15:33just short of, again, changing the colors.
15:35If you like and prefer your Kong
15:37to be a little bit more brown in his fur,
15:39this might be the better Kong to choose.
15:41Even then saying that,
15:43I mean, if you already have the original Kong,
15:45by having also swappable head sculpts,
15:47changes right away the way that the character looks.
15:49It's not like really he has only just one head sculpt,
15:52and that if you have both of them on the shelf,
15:54you can clearly see that they are the same.
15:56But having then different head sculpts
15:58means you can also change the look of Kong.
16:00You can also have this one
16:01holding the remains of Mechagodzilla,
16:03while the other one is holding his axe firmly in his grip.
16:07Still, they haven't fixed the one issue
16:08that I have with King Kong's here,
16:10and that's changing out the hands.
16:12The feet, okay,
16:13maybe the feet were a little tighter on this figure.
16:15Once I loosen things up,
16:16he stands better than he did before.
16:19But the hands, changing hands,
16:20is still a difficult thing.
16:21I feel like maybe make the posts longer,
16:24the ones that go inside the hand.
16:26Because if you have the ball joint
16:28so close to the sleeve of his forearm,
16:30it doesn't give a whole lot of space
16:32to attach properly the hand to the rest of his arm.
16:35If they can just fix that,
16:37maybe for a Kong 3.0,
16:39but do we really even need
16:40that many more changes to the figure?
16:42They have constantly perfected their craft.
16:45So like every new release
16:46that we've gotten of Godzilla,
16:48every new release we've gotten of King Kong,
16:50have gotten progressively better from before.
16:52This one necessarily isn't a step ahead
16:54of the previous Kong.
16:56In fact, it's sort of parallel to the previous Kong,
16:58just with only, again, a different color
17:00and some of the different accessories that he had
17:02that the one didn't have before.
17:04Big thank you again to the folks over at Hyatt Toys
17:06that did provide this sample.
17:07Today we were having a look
17:08at the Godzilla vs. Kong King Kong version 2.0.
17:12Let me know what you guys think of this figure
17:14down below in the comment section.
17:15And I think a question I really do want to post
17:18for those that have already picked up
17:19the previous Kong,
17:20and I'm specifically saying Godzilla X Kong,
17:22the new Empire exquisite basic Kong.
17:24If you already have that figure,
17:26the one that I compared in this review,
17:28is there enough changes made to this one?
17:30Just with, again, the change of the color,
17:32the change of some of the new accessories.
17:34Is there enough at least that's been added
17:36to this release of Kong
17:37that can justify picking this figure out?
17:40Still to justify it,
17:41I mean, like it's $58,
17:42it's 99 cents,
17:43it's a little less than $60.
17:45I still think like Hyatt Toys
17:47is knocking it out of the park,
17:48making themselves very budget-friendly
17:50for new-time collectors
17:52and long-time collectors.
17:53For those that have been collecting
17:55King Kong as long as I have,
17:57there's still enough that surprises me
17:58every single time I look at a brand new figure.
