00:38when evil lord zad arrives on the moon the power rangers need new thunder zords in the help of a
00:42brand new white ranger thunder zord has more than 15 sounds and phrases from the show activate by
00:48pressing the button on mega thunder zords chest to hear him speak and watch his eyes light up
00:52his accessories include his signature thunder saber they've got the ability to morph and even
00:57up the score but thanks to playmates too it's right now available in stores a big thank you to the
01:02folks over at playmates that did provide the sample of the brand new mighty morph and power rangers
01:06reignition ultimate mega thunder zord personally one of my all-time favorites of the mega zords what
01:12can i say i'm a big fan of a zord wearing a firebird as a belt this guy is currently
01:17stocked in stores
01:18right now for around 64 canadian a little less than that obviously if you're shopping around in
01:23the u.s sadly though it doesn't actually have the individual zord components to build the thunder
01:29zord but what it does have instead is 12 sounds and phrases and its lies light also light up as
01:34well
01:35we're going to get down to those details in a moment let's also take the tape measure and give you
01:39some 411 looking and clocking in the thunder zord being roughly 12 inches in height or give or take
01:46about 30 centimeters tall i would be a poor reviewer if i didn't point out the fact that the zord
01:51does
01:51come include with a paper instruction sheet the street the sheet does show you how to store the
01:57saber located here on the side of the belt it also shows you how to activate the lights and the
02:02sounds
02:02right over here and how to change out the batteries the batteries though and required in this case is ag13s
02:08you need three of those but the folks over at playmates have already taken the time to include those
02:14what i did notice though about the battery compartment if i just flip around the zord right
02:17now here's the battery compartment by the way uh you would just unscrew that obviously to gain access
02:22to those three button batteries i don't actually see an on and off switch unless i'm missing something
02:29here generally though they usually put an on and off switch or correction they usually put an on and off
02:35and a try and try as i best i can't actually see an on or off switch for this so
02:42i would suggest if
02:43you're obviously just not looking to drain the batteries just don't press the button on the front
02:46of his chest for the accessories though that come included with the thunder zord first of all you get
02:51yourself the saber the energy staff here i should really say is actually fairly durable it's a little
02:58softer on the end it does actually have some really nice molded details there there is no storage
03:04space necessarily on the zord but you'll be happy at least to know that it does have two gripping
03:09hands now you may already pay if you're paying attention at least notice at the beginning of
03:13this review that i actually had him wielding the staff in both his hands and that's actually
03:18something that can be done by having hinge joints located concealed inside the forearm cavity here of
03:24its shoulders it does also have swivelable wrists as well to show you guys what it looks like though
03:29one thing at least that's a benefit to the zord is that the plastic in the hands is somewhat soft
03:34we can take ourselves the staff here get the plastic thumb out of the way and get the staff
03:40in its hands now it does have decent levels of posability it won't do all that much really when
03:45it comes to shoulders but we're going to get looking at that more in a moment but again being
03:49that it does have at least bends in its elbows you can also bend the elbow on this hand too
03:55and you can have it wielding the staff now i like that idea it i mean it would have suffered
04:01a bit
04:02solely obviously if it would only have rotated in its wrist but the fact it does also have why am
04:07i
04:07struggling so much doing this the fact the fact that it does actually have a bend right here means
04:13at least you can actually have it wheeling the staff like i said in both its hands now it's likely
04:19going to be the way i'm going to have this displayed on the shelf it does also come included
04:23with its sword now the thunder saber though again has a little bit more going on for it
04:28i think it generally does it use i feel more the sword in the show than maybe the actual staff
04:33the sword is made of what looks to be very soft gray plastic it's got some nice additional paint
04:39that they've put on the front there as well and it does also come include with a sheath like in
04:43the
04:43show a sheath in the show take the saber slide it down in place you can see some additional
04:50decorative details they're also added at the very end of the sheath as well there's a clip right here
04:56now the clip is supposed to attach to the top of the inside of its belt the top and inside
05:01i know
05:02that sounds a little weird let's go ahead and take the staff out of its hands for a second here
05:07and put it off to the side we just move its arms out of the way and it's only really
05:12located on one side
05:13so this side won't actually have it if i just i just hit the button by mistake if you turn
05:20it you
05:20have to have it completely flat or i should say completely straight you can see just move its arm
05:27out of the way there's a slot right there can you see the slot i know i'm just blocking it
05:32i'm sure
05:32with my own hand take yourself the sheath and it clips right in place it's actually located right in
05:39there i wish really i'd be able to move the shoulders out of the way but it's next to impossible
05:43so we're going to go ahead just trust that i know where this goes and then the sheath just attaches
05:49into the slot here now one problem unfortunately with the design of the the thunderzord is the fact
05:56that we just move its arms out of the way here for a second it can hold the sword and
06:01the sheath
06:01okay providing that the torso is always facing forward the moment though you go to turn the torso
06:08it's going to hit the side of it so you're not going to be able to really turn the torso
06:11while
06:12the sword is in place that makes sense because you're going to be covering over that slot so you'd
06:18have to decide for yourself if you want this thing in dynamic poses you're going to have to probably
06:2286 the idea of having this thing with a sheath attached to its belt we'll take that right now out
06:29of the way just untab it here i wish again like it could have been in a different place but
06:34i believe
06:35that's also where it's located in the show i mean they could have also just take this off here for
06:40a second until i finished my thoughts i wish there was maybe a way that they could have put a
06:46hole
06:47bear with me here as i just try to remove this it doesn't help really that the shoulders are always
06:52in the way maybe we'll just we'll move the shoulder up just a little bit see there's the
06:59slot right there it's difficult to try to put that in and even more difficult to try to remove it
07:06i think i almost have it there we go what i did really want to say is i wish there
07:11had been maybe a
07:12hole here because again like between the shoulders and the torso twisting i would feel like you'd always
07:18end up knocking this off whereas if they had put a peg right there i know it's obviously going to
07:23be
07:23a little bit more of an unsightly hole but had they put it there you could have attached the sheath
07:28there instead of actually having to attach it on the top because again like the moment you start to
07:33turn the torso you've already now blocked off that slot and heaven forbid though if you actually
07:38still have the sheath right there you'll only end up popping it off in the process let's take
07:43ourselves the sword slide it back into the sheath and we'll put it off to the side with the staff
07:48getting a closer look now at the thunder zord first things first obviously we're going to look at the
07:53face very heavily influenced this zord was by like samurai armor again it's one of my all-time
07:59favorite of the zords i i just like the combination of the zords of course you've got the lion mega
08:04zord
08:04kind of essentially being like i believe like the shoulder parts like the top of the torso
08:08but it's basically like the red dragon zord wearing clothes it's wearing like the boots it's wearing
08:15like the arms it's basically just getting dressed in the morning and the red dragon is my all-time
08:20favorite of the zords again like it doesn't have any transformation to it you can't remove the
08:25component pieces there at all but again like you've got the main parts here for the shoulders from the
08:29line down below again you've also got the tiger well you've also got the griffin and the unicorn
08:35respectively on the side they i mean they were probably like the less interesting of the zords
08:39just because again like between the griffin and the unicorn they looked basically the same some nice
08:45detailing though done to the zord i was actually pleasantly surprised to see that the zord did
08:49actually have ankle articulation and it actually has some pretty good posability as well for the legs
08:54if we again just move this up out of the way there's the lion head there on the front for
08:58a nice
08:59belt buckle but again like one of the coolest things about this was the fact that the firebird
09:03basically just latched on to the back of the body of the zord and then folded itself around to make
09:09essentially pants or like a belt for the pants now these are actually softer plastic they've made
09:16them sure this way so that you would actually have some additional posability for the legs even
09:20though despite having this slit right here you can't really move the legs any further out than
09:25what they are right now again there's the detailing for the griffin and the unicorn respectively
09:31i don't feel like really playmates has missed any of their marks when it comes to the detailing on
09:36this like the boots look fantastic again of the individual zords they don't have much really in the
09:40way of the detailing on the bottom of it like really nice color again they're on also on the
09:44shoulders as well it's a little bare and basic on the back just because again that's where the
09:49battery compartment has to be for the zord and again you've also got the firebird only really just
09:54its head because again its wings have to fold around to the front that said though i'm sure you guys
09:59would want to see what this thing looks like with the eyes lit up all of that can be accomplished
10:03by simply just pressing the button here on the front now it's going to cycle through 12 phrases
10:08the fact that it doesn't again have it doesn't seem like an on and off or a try it seems
10:13like
10:14you will be cycling through all 12 phrases you could even do that in the store as well just
10:18constantly going up and pressing the button there also didn't seem to be any restriction plastic
10:23pieces to prevent the batteries from working so i'm sure kids could go up there constantly
10:27pressing the button and draining the batteries in the process we're going to press the button
10:32several times here
10:45one thing that you've probably already noticed is that you have to listen through the whole phrase
10:51you can't abruptly change the phrase as it's in the middle of whatever it's doing so if i press the
10:56button again and then i press it while it's doing its thing
11:02it has to finish what it needs to do before it moves on to the next thing
11:11and if you are fans obviously of the show and the season
11:16you're going to recognize the fact that they are calling out to the zords
11:27the one thing about it though it doesn't have much in the way of sound effects it's fine the
11:34fact that it's constantly calling out to the zords but i would have liked had there been maybe more
11:41like music some slashing effects because it doesn't seem like it does nearly as much of that
11:50if you're also picking this up as a gift for a child
11:53you're probably going to be hearing this often in the house
11:57and again there's no way to turn that back off by pressing the button
12:04i like that they include as many phrases as they do i just wish though that it was more
12:10actual sound effects
12:15i think by now we probably exhausted all the 12 phrases here
12:22i have still really yet to hear much in the way of actual sounds so again it's mostly just audio
12:28clips
12:29for the thunder zords articulation he doesn't really have much in the way of his head because
12:34his head has to be built into the electric component pieces for its eyes to light up
12:38so don't really expect that you can be able doing all that much with the head
12:42the head by the way even like the crest is more of a softer plastic
12:46the arms rotate all the way around
12:48they are unfortunately a little more limited when it comes to moving them out
12:52had there maybe been a way that they could have made some additional posability points here
12:56so you could actually bring the shoulders out a lot more
12:57it goes from basically just a parallel park
13:00and the arms go up a little less than 45 degrees
13:05again like you do have the arm rotation so at least there's that
13:07i like that at least the arms for the sake of holding the saber or the staff
13:12that there is actually a hinge joint right here
13:15so you can actually move that in and out
13:17the hands do also rotate all the way around as well
13:20but again like the thing that surprised me really the most about the thunder sword
13:23was the fact that the legs split as far out as they did
13:27they don't go as really as far out as maybe some would like
13:30but at least they can do something more than just swivel back and forth
13:32and yes they do swivel also back and forth
13:35some decent levels of posability also for the knees
13:38so you can get i wouldn't say necessarily a running pose
13:41because this thing won't be able to hold its own weight
13:43but at least though it does have a decent bend in its knees
13:46does also have some ankle articulation there as well
13:49the feet don't necessarily move up and down
13:53even if they would i don't think there's really much clearance anyways for this to
13:56to move up and down but at least you've got yourself some ankle rocking
13:59so with that you can also get this in some decent enough poses if you want at
14:04least the wider stance for the thunder sword the only thing unfortunately with
14:07that though is while it has a lot more in its legs
14:10it doesn't really have a whole lot of it though in the shoulders
14:13so it comes to really if you want a nice pose with this thing with its saber
14:18you could get in its hands you could get him actually wielding the staff for example with
14:23both of its hands but if you want the arms to be wider out than what they are
14:27that's as far really as they go
14:28i like that they at least have sound effects to this you know again like 12 plus phrases
14:33but again like it's only seems to be phrases
14:36i've gone through this and i feel like i keep coming up across the same phrases
14:41i i feel like maybe there's some that are buried in there that i've yet to uncover
14:4412 phrases is still fine but i wish that there had maybe been some additional sound effects
14:50some music added in there as well because as much as i love the second season
14:54and the ultimate mega thunder sword i think the unfortunate thing about this though is those
14:59phrases especially if a kid's pressing that may start getting tiring after time
15:04love the design of this like i said this one does not actually morph in the sense that you can
15:08actually take the individual zords and have them combined together if that doesn't bother you at
15:12all and you just want to show peace on the shelf either for yourself or again for a younger collector
15:17of power rangers it's not a bad price for how cool of a thunder zord you're actually getting
15:22if you can get past the fact that the ultimate mega thunder zord doesn't actually morph and transform
15:27it's actually a pretty fun toy the price of what this guy's selling for at least here again in canada
15:33that's 64 it's like 64.89 for that at least they've incorporated the sound effects to it the sounds and
15:40phrases from the show had it not been the case that the phrases weren't included with this i maybe think
15:45that it might have been too high of a price but that having sound effects is working to its favor
15:50the thing that doesn't necessarily work to its favor though is it's again all audio clips taken from
15:55the show if you like the way that the thunder zord transforms and each of the individual power
16:00rangers calling out to their zords that may be fine for the first few times that you press that
16:05unfortunate thing about that though is it you can't change it to the next phrase by pressing the
16:11button which sometimes is the case with these phrase sound effects figures you can usually interrupt
16:16whatever it's doing pressing the button again and then it's just going to jump to the next phrase
16:20it's almost like if to get to a phrase that you want to hear you have to listen to the
16:25full full
16:26extent of that audio clip before then you can press the button again i wish there was maybe a way
16:31that
16:32playmates could have found an interruption in the button so that at least if you have to get through
16:37listening to all the phrases if there's one that you've already heard several times and you want to
16:41skip right over it have that interruption feature in the button so you can press it and change the
16:47phrase right away instead of again having to listen to the extent of it before it moves on to the
16:51next
16:52what do you guys go think of the ultimate mega thunderzord does it bother you at all that this
16:57doesn't actually transform or do you think though is just a toy that sits on a shelf it's pretty cool
17:03i like that there's actually a lot more posability going forth than what i was really expecting
17:07decent posability in the knees some good ankles there as well it does have a twistable wrist or twistable
17:14waist unfortunately though with that twisting waist you lose the functionality of actually having it store
17:19the sheath and i do wish that the sheath could have stored on the side of the firebird instead
17:25of actually attaching onto the top so you could have both at the same time twisting feature in the
17:30waist and also the storage of the sword if you don't have it displayed on the figure big thank you
