Mattel DC Core Robin Cycle – Did he need to have a Vehicle?

00:00I don't know. With the design of this cycle, I have a feeling the Boy Wonder has blinders.
00:04Here's a look at the brand new Mattel DC Core Robin Cycle with Figure.
00:17This DC Premiere Batlink Robin Cycle is story ready with a 6.5 inch Robin figure and his matching motorcycle.
00:23The superhero figure is ready for exciting action moves and poses with 22 points of articulation.
00:28Exclusive motorcycle gear deco and a fabricate for realism.
00:32The Robin Cycle is compatible with all the other 6.5 inch DC figures and has an auto launch cannon.
00:37It releases three projectiles as it rolls.
00:39The Batlink modular system allows vehicles to be customized with other items from the Batman armory.
00:45The Robin Cycle fits completely inside the split open hood of the Batlink Batmobile.

00:58You know how comfortable I'd be with this guy riding behind me.

01:05Go ahead and contact the morgue.
01:08Before that, we get a closer look at Robin and his cycle of choice.
01:12Let's take the tape measure and see how tall the figure is going to stand and how long the motorcycle
01:16actually is.
01:16I grabbed this on Amazon.
01:18I did.
01:19Seems to be the only place right now where we can actually find Mattel DC merch, at least here in
01:23Canada.
01:24As for how tall the figure is going to stand, Robin seems to be at least six inches in height.
01:28Actually, he is exactly six inches in height.
01:31It's going to work out to be a figure that's 15 centimeters tall.
01:34For how long the cycle is, let's go back to inches from the front of its missiles.
01:38I don't know.
01:39I have a good idea.
01:40To the back of its wheel, eight inches in length.
01:42Or give or take about 20 centimeters long.
01:45This release of Robin.
01:46He seems to be using the exact same mold as the single DC core Robin, other than changing out the
01:51colors.
01:52The standalone Robin would have had kind of more of the classic colors with the reds, the yellows, and the
01:56greens.
01:56Where now this one rocks it with the darker blacks.
01:59Utility belt seems to be the same.
02:00The head sculpt is also the same, which I have an idea about the head sculpt.
02:03We'll kind of talk about that more in a moment.
02:05But then if you wanted to display this guy along with the Caped Crusader and the Flash that we've already
02:09had a look at, he's going to fit in fine for that.
02:12Other comparisons we can also make as well.
02:14Let's just bring in a couple of Robins we've gotten from McFarlane Toys.
02:16One tall, one small.
02:18He's got tiny, tiny little feet.
02:20Speaking of smaller Robins, let's also bring in ones from the DC Universe days.
02:24One, a classic Dick Grayson Robin.
02:26And one Robin that's all in red.
02:28If you don't count his motorcycle, then Robin really doesn't have any other accessories than a removable utility belt.
02:33Similar in the way, though, that Batman's worked.
02:35You can actually take the front of belt buckle and completely take off a utility belt.
02:39Let's just say, though, that Riddler has taken Robin in.
02:41He's about to maybe rob his face.
02:43Remember that episode of the classic 60s Batman where, like, the girlfriend of the Riddler pretended to dress like Robin?
02:49Suspense and disbelief.
02:50But then if you wanted to, you could give the utility belt maybe to her.
02:53I don't even remember what the girl's name was.
02:54Somebody can, I'm sure, let me know down below in the comments section.
02:56This review is all about Robin.
02:58And with, again, Robin, we can go ahead and just take the utility belt.
03:01Stretch this across.
03:03Plug this in place.
03:04There we go.
03:06Much like Batman's, though, on the back of the utility belt, they actually have these little pegs.
03:10So if you happen to have yourself a weapons rack like Batman had, the regular core of Robin is also
03:15going to have the same style of weapons rack, too.
03:18So that does answer a question I had earlier as to whether there is going to be another figure that's
03:21going to have a weapons rack.
03:22Man, I'm talking way too fast.
03:24Let's talk a little bit slower now.
03:25Now, take one of the included accessories that Batman had, and then, again, if we just flip up the cape
03:32here, you can actually take these slots and attach a batarang.
03:35You want to attach two?
03:37You can attach two.
03:38You want to attach three?
03:39I think that's a lot of batarangs, just to be honest.
03:41But you could do that also as well.
03:43Because Robin, again, doesn't have any other accessories, technically, again, you could just borrow the ones that he gets from
03:49the bat cave.
03:49So, again, you can just take yourself a utility belt, take yourself the batarang, and put that into Robin's hands.
03:56Now, because I don't have that individual Robin just yet, it would be very hard for me to do comparisons,
04:02really, between the two figures.
04:03One idea I had, though, the original Robin, that we eventually will look at here on this channel, has, like,
04:09the front of his tunic all kind of the lighter red, still a yellow cape, and it has the green
04:13tights.
04:14So, like, classic Robin.
04:15One thing I was kind of curious about, that other Robin happens to have himself a green mask.
04:20I'm thinking, though, because these heads technically can be popped off and can be swapped around, I know we had
04:27the problem before where we wouldn't be able to use these with the core Master Universe figures.
04:30But we already have DC figures already knowing that they use this size of peg.
04:35Like, I'm going to see maybe if I can swap the heads around with that eventual pickup of the Robin,
04:40just eventually, when I happen to find him.
04:43Because I do think, though, that the black mask is going to work a little bit better for him.
04:46Now, the only downside to that, if I'm going to be robbing this Robin of his head sculpt, then what's
04:51this guy going to have instead?
04:52Well, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
04:55Body-wise, though, for Robin, it looks like it'd be exactly the same.
04:58I think, like, all the sculpting also on the shoulders, it hasn't been changed at all.
05:01It's only just cosmetic that is the difference between this one and the regular Robin.
05:06He has a peg still on the back of his body that goes all the way through the back of
05:10his cape.
05:11Now, it's not going to work at all so far with the Batmans.
05:13Flash had one, too.
05:15Eventually, though, I'm sure when we're going to get backpacks, you'd maybe put a jetpack on the back of Robin's
05:19body.
05:21Who then really needs himself a motorcycle.
05:24But the figure has, you know, your standard size.
05:26He's going to be a little bit shorter than Batman, which I like that, at least.
05:29So they're not using the exact same bodies.
05:31He has a little bit shorter, like half a head shorter, give or take, as Batman.
05:35And, of course, he has all the same levels of posability.
05:37Just because this guy does technically come and include the motorcycle doesn't mean that they've skimped on the figure's posability.
05:42He has all the same as what the other Robin would have as well.
05:46Head's going to be on a ball joint.
05:48I don't know why I move this so slowly.
05:50The head can look down and up, of course, and he can also rock it back and forth as well.
05:53For his arms, they rotate all the way around.
05:56You can hinge them out.
05:57Now, with having, like, the shoulder pads like this, it does, doesn't limit as much as I was thinking.
06:04But you kind of kind of feel it, though, when you move his arms out at a T pose.
06:08The figure has no bicep swivel.
06:10But he does have, however, though, a swivel in his forearm.
06:12You can move it back and forth or all the way around.
06:14The hands do the same.
06:16Rotate them all the way around.
06:17There's a hinge there, too.
06:19So you can move that back and forth as well.
06:21So there is no waist swivel.
06:23And, again, like, oh, maybe there is a waist swivel.
06:26It's just, ah, tight.
06:29Happens to all the rest of us.
06:31There's a very tight waist.
06:33Legs do split out.
06:34There's the ball joints, of course, working behind the scenes.
06:36The legs go forward and back.
06:38You can drop the legs down just a little bit, but not by much, though.
06:42Three quarters of the way up the thigh, there's also a swivel cut, so you can rotate the legs all
06:45the way around.
06:45The figure does have a knee bend and, as you can already see, different colored knee pads.
06:52The boots, by the way, are the exact same boots, also, that the original standalone Core Robin is also going
06:56to have as well.
06:56So there's nothing at all that they've changed other than just making this guy primarily more black than primarily more
07:02green.
07:02I guess, really, the lower half of him would have been green.
07:04But he does also have ankle articulation, too.
07:08Good-looking Robin, without, again, not having the other Robin in front of me.
07:12I like the color choice on this guy, but will that change at all when we eventually, when I say
07:17when we, when I, when I eventually do pick up that Robin?
07:21I can't be the only one that's looking at Robin's cycle and not just think that it bears a very
07:25strong resemblance to a Kira's motorcycle.
07:28Of course, the only thing that's now been added to the motorcycle on Robin is the fact that there's this
07:33giant missile turret here on the front.
07:35The missiles have to then be added separately, and they actually work with a gimmick.
07:39So when you turn the tire around, it doesn't do it so much when you're spinning the tire.
07:44But when, let's say, for example, you put it down here and you put a little pressure on it, what
07:48it will do, though, is it's going to rotate the turret.
07:50And as it rotates the turret, it's going to fire one of the missiles.
07:54There we go.
07:55Keep continuing and repeating the steps till eventually all the missiles have fired off and hope that nobody's, again, driving
08:02in front of you.
08:02Have your insurance company card ready.
08:05The missiles, though, again, I like that at least that it doesn't spin right away.
08:08Like, obviously, it's going to take a little bit more than just doing this in order to fire those missiles.
08:13And they actually fire pretty far.
08:15Why I actually had my hand in front of it, because if not for that, it would go clearly across
08:19the room.
08:20But the missiles do snap back in place.
08:22It's an interesting looking motorcycle.
08:25I feel like his vision would be quite impaired.
08:28I understand, yes, there's going to be a screen on the inside.
08:31So Robin's going to at least be able to see what he's got going on here.
08:33But I feel like it would have been a nice place to add a little sticker.
08:36By the fact that there's also an outline frame here makes me think that at one point a sticker was
08:42going to be applied.
08:43Unfortunately, though, there's no stickers that come in clear with the motorcycle.
08:45It's fairly detailed.
08:47I mean, it's very front heavy.
08:48So I would imagine, like, getting speeds on streets would be a little harder to do.
08:52Some handles on the side, handlebars on the sides, jets on the back.
08:56And again, it has the red tires, a little Robin symbol there, also there on both sides as well.
09:01To get Robin inside his cycle, just in case of actually taking his legs and just obviously moving them forward.
09:07Get his arms ready.
09:08Get his arms prepped.
09:09Just bring his head around as well.
09:11Now, when you actually get Robin into his cycle, there's an opening on both sides.
09:15So when you take his legs, you slide them on the inside.
09:18You want to make sure that he clears both the insides.
09:21Because if you tuck the figure down, I've already had this happen already,
09:24where one leg was hanging out.
09:26But it tucks fairly well in there, actually.
09:29And then you're just going to take his handles.
09:30Now, I feel like with his handlebars, they're pretty low.
09:35I'm not sure why specifically they're so low.
09:37I would just think that this would be a very awkward ride for Robin to ride around in.
09:41I would have, if anything, probably brought the handles up.
09:44Now, these don't move or anything.
09:46Nothing at all on this moves, other than really just the gun turret on the front.
09:49This, I think, would be a little bit more comfortable.
09:51I mean, I would just think that that would be awkward for him to ride.
09:54Obviously, he can't see through the canopy either.
09:57Even though it's translucent yellow plastic, there's no way at all this guy's going to be able to see what's
10:01going on.
10:02He has to do really all of his looking by looking down on the screen.
10:05Is that comfortable?
10:06That doesn't look very comfortable.
10:08It's interesting, though, enough.
10:10Now, eventually, I'm just going to put this down here for a second.

10:14I had the packaging right in front of me.
10:16Oh, there it is.
10:17I'm just going to reach and grab this here for a second.
10:18The thing that's interesting, though, about Robin's cycle is that when you do eventually get yourself the Batmobile, it doesn't
10:24look at all, really, like anything on the actual cycle itself.
10:28Now, I thought right here would be the part that would detach and that this would be the part that
10:33then would slide into the front of the Batmobile.
10:35But it does look like he literally just backs in, difficult, I'm sure, would just back into the front of
10:41the Batmobile, and then he would just park himself as the Batmobile has opened up.
10:45You can also take one of the Robin Shurikens, and those blades can also go on the bottom of the
10:51cycle, too.
10:51So it does look like he's actually got more of a flying craft.
10:55Very interesting.
10:56I mean, as it is right now, it is a moving cycle.
10:59I think one thing I might end up doing, though, is probably take the missiles off, because if I do
11:03spin this around, or if my daughter ends up picking this up and playing around with it, as she starts
11:07to move this around, I really don't want this to accidentally fire in her face or maybe fire and hit
11:11the cat instead.
11:12The colors look okay.
11:13I don't know.
11:14I can't think, though, it's the most practical of motorcycles for Robin to be riding around in.
11:19If anything, he has to constantly be looking down on a view screen.
11:22And with not even having the view screen on by the absence of stickers, I just think it's not probably
11:28one of the most easiest rides to get around.
11:30But who's going to be telling him anyways?
11:32After all, he's got a big missile turret on the whole front of his vehicle.
11:36When eventually it gets around to get released, when eventually I get around to picking it up, we will be
11:40revisiting the Robin cycle when, of course, we look at the Batlink Batmobile.
11:44Robin will literally back his cycle into the Batmobile, and the Batmobile will split itself open.
11:49Think of it sort of the reverse steps of the Batpod leaving the damaged Batmobile, except I guess Batman this
11:55time was smart enough to know Robin's constantly backing this cycle into things.
11:59I might as well work around the problem by having the Batmobile literally working around the cycle.
12:07It does look like it could be a tad awkward.
12:10Again, if you also pick up the shurikens, you can also take the blades off of the Robin little throwing
12:15discs, and you can actually put them also on the bottom of the cycle too.
12:18So it gives them sort of a flying craft.
12:20Not sure, though, if I'm going to get around to picking that up.
12:22I say that now.
12:23Of course, I'm probably going to be eventually getting that as well.
12:25In the end, though, I do like the look of the Robin.
12:28Not having, obviously, the standalone core Robin, it's hard to say which one I like more.
12:32The benefit, at least, though, is that they use the exact same body.
12:35So if you wanted to, I have a feeling, though, you'd be able to swap the heads around.
12:39You don't really dig so much the green mask on the regular standalone core.
12:43Or just use the one that's got the black mask and hope that the skin tone is exactly the same.
12:48He doesn't have any accessories.
12:50But again, to be fair, he's got this Akira-style motorcycle that has a rotating missile turret on the front.
12:56I think for the safety of this, I'm probably going to have the missiles removed before my daughter finds this
13:00and launches one of the missiles across the room.
13:03I hope she doesn't hit the TV.
13:04This one, by the way, though, is on Amazon.
13:07Again, speaking as a Canadian collector, it'd be a little bit less, obviously, for U.S. collectors.
13:10I paid $29.99.
13:12So it's about $30.
13:13That gives us a motorcycle and a core figure that probably would have been on its own.
13:19But I would say like $15.
13:20So that works out to be, I guess, a $15 cycle and a $15 figure.
13:25Not too bad at all.
