Hiya Toys Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla Godzilla (2002) Exquisite Basic Series Figure Review

00:22Here's your look at the brand new Hyatt toys, exquisite basic, Godzilla against Mechagodzilla,
00:26Godzilla 2002.
00:33From Godzilla against Mechagodzilla, this detailed action figure brings the king of the monsters to life.
00:39Standing seven inch tall, the figure faithfully recreates Godzilla's iconic design from his
00:43fierce eyes to reptilian mouth to his dark gray skin. The yellowed weathering on his teeth and
00:48claws adds a lifelike touch, while the sharp dorsal fins featured layer paintwork for extra intensity.
00:54I wonder if Godzilla is even considering codename MFS3 Kiryu. Either way though, before we get a
01:00closer look at Godzilla before he battles Mechagodzilla, let's take the tape measure and
01:04see how tall the figure's gonna stand. Big thank you to the folks over at Hyatt toys that did provide
01:09the sample. Godzilla is slated to drop on land August 2026, so sometime this month. For how big the king
01:17of the monsters is, first we're gonna go right to the very tippy top of his head. If I'm looking
01:21at this
01:21correctly, I'd like to think by now I am. You're looking at Godzilla standing about six and a half inches
01:27in height, of course based on the way I've gotten configured right now. That's gonna work out to be a
01:31figure
01:31that's about 16 and a half centimeters tall. For its length, and again that will vary, from one end of
01:38its
01:38snout to the end of its tail, Godzilla seems to clock in about 13 inches in length, or give or
01:43take about
01:4433 centimeters long. Let's just get this guy turned around right now. What I find rather interesting
01:50is that the cyborg of Mechagodzilla was actually used from the old skeleton of a previous first
01:55Godzilla, which is actually kind of funny because if you bring in previous Godzillas, I'm just bringing
02:00one right in now from the 1999 release, he actually seems to have more borrowed over components to the
02:061999 one than he does in fact from the 2001. 2001 kind of more notably had the larger, I think
02:14at the
02:15time I called it an otter face, but like you can kind of really see though that he gets a
02:20lot more of
02:21the details and the designs more from the 1999 release than he does from the 2001. Of course to be
02:26expected, Godzilla does come include with hands for his accessories. I mentioned this a couple of times
02:32and I'll mention it again here in this review. Hands are fine and good. The thing about it though is
02:37that he already kind of has these styles of hands already on the ends of his forearms. Yes, to be
02:41fair
02:41though, they're kind of more closed in gripping hands versus say for example the flat out fanned out
02:47hands that he has. So you can see like it's not a real whole lot different between like these hands
02:53and then these hands with just the wider spread fingers. I feel like maybe again like with stuff like
02:59this, I would be thrilled if Hayatoys maybe would instead of using hands as a possible thrown in
03:04accessory include things like, I don't know, like little ships, pieces of boulder, pieces of debris,
03:11something like that that Godzilla can currently already hold with the hands that Eerie has on the
03:15ends of his forearms. Again, I don't know if these necessarily bring that much more to the table.
03:20They're just slightly different posed hands, but I feel again like the hands that he has already on the
03:25ends of his forearms are perfectly serviceable. By the way though, if you did want to change out
03:29the hands on this Godzilla, just pop them very easily off the pegs. Find of course the hand that
03:34makes the most sense. Thumbs will go in after all and plug that onto the peg. I want to make
03:39sure of
03:39course you've got that all the way on there because you don't want those hands to fall off.
03:43So again, like you've got this style of hand and then on the flip side, you've got this style of
03:48hand.
03:49But again, like this hand isn't really necessarily holding anything because Godzilla doesn't
03:53actually have in any other accessories than what we've just finished looking at.
03:58Moving those to the side, the one notable thing though also about Godzilla from 2002 is that he
04:03does have a wider gill. See the way that they've actually designed like the neck for Godzilla. And
04:09this is again, like when I look at this and then I go and look back at the 1999, let's
04:14just close his
04:14mouth. When you look at kind of the two designs of Godzilla's, they kind of look the more closest in
04:19proximity, which again, like this is from 1999. This is the one from the 2002 film. Again, you've
04:25got the wide, more kind of gullet neck, which is again, fairly accurate to the way he looks in the
04:31movie. He has very much a wide neck here with kind of these spikes or like these additional kind of
04:38details that he has on the side of his neck. You compare that then to the 2001 Godzilla and it's
04:44very
04:44much a completely different design. Now really this one would predate the 2002. So this Godzilla
04:51would have come first, this Godzilla then latter. But there's definitely a lot more design elements
04:56I feel shared with the 1999 release than there was with the 2001. The designs also for Godzilla,
05:02getting a closer look at his head sculpt here. I mean, while yes, he has more of a wider neck,
05:08it's a very trademarked design to the King of the Monsters. Once again, they seem to be going with
05:12more of that glass eye look that gives a lot more realism to the design of the face.
05:16He has kind of more a tapered off snout, not maybe nearly as wide, for example, as the previous two
05:23Godzillas, but it definitely does read very much like a very cool design of the character.
05:28Having also this wider neck piece, one thing I did notice though about it, it does seem like there's a
05:34space gap right here. Now they probably have allotted that, added that in there. So you'd be able to move
05:39the neck up and down and back and forth, just adding a little bit of space here.
05:43It's unfortunate though, because the way they've designed it, he does have sort of a slot,
05:48a gap right there where he's letting the air all in. Of course, the mouth does open and close.
05:53Kind of hard to get in there with your fingers. They do open, of course, and close. You can see
05:57that
05:57he does have not necessarily a tongue, because the tongue is way up in here. We'll just pull that down
06:03just a little bit. Yes, like with other Godzillas, the tongue is articulated,
06:06but sometimes as you open and close the mouth, you'll find actually that his tongue is stuck up
06:12to the top of the roof of his mouth, like he's trying to eat, finish off maybe a jar of
06:15peanut
06:16butter. But yeah, we'll go ahead and just bring the tongue down a little bit here. Getting your
06:21fingers just pulling this down. The tongue gets stuck frequently. So I'm sure you're probably going
06:28to be experiencing the same thing I'm experiencing, but just go ahead and bring the tongue back down.
06:32Really nice paint on the teeth, the top and the bottom of the row. Yeah, I do really like the
06:37head sculpt quite a lot. Looking also at the dorsal fins too. And I keep wanting to keep bringing
06:42in the 1999, because I feel like, again, the dorsal fins are very similar design. They look
06:48almost like, I don't know, like shards of ice, just by the way that they're designed. 1999's Godzilla
06:55also had something very similar to that. Yet, again, I'm just going to bring, because we don't have a 2000
07:01Godzilla just yet. You can see, like with the 2001, the dorsal fins not only are smaller in design,
07:07but they seem more rounded off. Not nearly as jagged and bladed like these ones right here.
07:13Paint on this is, again, really nicely done. Kind of more of the darker Godzilla. He is actually
07:17really of the three Godzillas that it brought in, well, the other two on either side of him. He is
07:21the darkest of Godzilla's. Dark more in the gray coloring here. There's some additional wash that
07:26they've added in there as well. Really nice work, though, on the figure overall. I think really of
07:32the three figures, while I did really like the red coloring that they added to the dorsal fins of
07:3699's, and I kind of think it's charming, though. He's got the otter face for the 2001. I think of
07:41the three Godzillas within this time frame, this is my favorite of the designs. Yes, again, he does
07:47unfortunately have that space right there, but if you can kind of overlook that, maybe even just bring
07:51the collar down just a little bit. It's a fine, fine-looking Godzilla. Of course, he does have,
07:56again, the articulation in the tail. That's one thing, though, that Hayatois has done exceptionally
08:01well with all the releases of The King of the Monster is, again, these sectional joints that
08:05allow the tail to move back and forth. I find, actually, also with this Godzilla, he has the most
08:11freedom, it seems, to be able to move his tail around. I'm not sure what they've done differently
08:15here. It's not like it's necessarily more gaps in between each of the sections, but it does seem,
08:20though, like he's got a lot more mobility in his tail this time around. Maybe they found some new
08:26way of designing these tails that gives much more flexibility to the figure. One thing also I wanted
08:31to bring back here, and I keep going back to, again, bringing in the 99, it seems like his legs,
08:36or at least maybe his thighs and lower calves, maybe are being borrowed over from this mold.
08:42The 2001 has completely different legs. The feats look very similar. Looking at, again,
08:48it looks maybe like the 99s are just a little bit bigger than the 2002, but yeah, it does look
08:54like
08:55maybe they may have borrowed maybe at least the leg, maybe at least the lower calf from that other
09:00Godzilla. For the figure's articulation, going through that right now, obviously we've already
09:05looked at the fact that the mouth does open and close. There we go. I mean, again, like just looking
09:10at the front of the face of the three of, you know, 99, 2000, and 2000, well, 2002, 2001,
09:17I think, again, this is the one that kind of really, for me, reads the most like Godzilla. Just,
09:21again, a little bit more of a tapered nose, tapered snout. A little skinnier, though, in the face, but
09:26again, a very broad neck. Once again, articulation for this guy, his mouth does open and close.
09:32If, again, you can get your finger in there, just root out the tongue. The tongue does also have
09:37some possibility there, too, so you can move that up and down as well. For his neck, his neck has
09:42a
09:42ball joint here, so I'm going to kind of hold on to the collar piece here. The neck does move
09:46forward
09:47and back, up and down, but then he has a secondary joint. The joint does allow for the neck to
09:54move
09:54around, so you could technically turn the head around, really, if you wanted to. This piece also
09:58does move as well, so there's a couple of, again, different sections that complete the neck.
10:03The torso does rotate. However, though, with so much spikes going on, I think this might be the
10:10real reason why you can't move this too much. It doesn't really seem like he does have much mobility
10:16here. You can move it up and down just a little bit. Turning it doesn't seem like it's just really
10:21tight. It could just also be the fact it's tight, not necessarily that things get... Well, like right
10:25here, you can kind of see, too, like this part, if I get my finger out of the way, this
10:30part right here
10:30does seem like it rubs against the sculpting that's underneath, so that might be the thing
10:35that's causing the torso maybe not to move. It's just maybe, again, it's really tight.
10:40The arms move all the way around. No real issues. I guess, no, not that much in the way of
10:45the issues
10:45other than just, again, like the collar piece kind of get in the way of things. The arms hinge out.
10:50No, necessarily no issues there. He has a swivel right here, if I just hold on the shoulder.
10:56Swivels right here in the shoulder, and I guess more in the bicep area. Double hinge on the elbow.
11:01Hands rotate all the way around, hinging back and forth. And for his legs, legs split this far.
11:07They go forward and back. A little bit of a swivel there at the top of the thigh, more the
11:12way that
11:12the leg was just assembled in the manufacturing of it. Of course, there's going to be a ball joint.
11:17You just can't see it, but there's a ball joint working behind the scenes. There is a double hinge
11:22in the knee. The lower leg does rotate just a little bit. The feet, I know we haven't really spent
11:27a
11:27whole lot of time looking at Godzilla's feet. Just, again, like the really nice paint work done on
11:32this. Varying degrees, you can see it's kind of like a beige color. They've added a wash of brown.
11:37It just looks really neat on those feet. They move again up and down. You can also rock them back
11:42and
11:42forth. And then if we tackle the tail, again, like, I don't know if we want to spend so much
11:47time kind
11:47of counting off how many links he has, but one, two, three, four, well, there's a lot.
11:52With all of those, though, together, collectively, they're all working as a team. Seems like, again,
11:57like this Godzilla has probably the best articulation in his tail that I've seen so far from Haya.
12:03There's a lot that you can do with this. Now, I don't really know the reasoning why that tail moves
12:08as well as it does. I mean, again, I'm looking at this Godzilla. Maybe this one, yeah, this one
12:12doesn't move maybe nearly as much or as freely as this one does here. But again, like I really think
12:18that this is definitely one of the better looking Godzillas that they've done within, you know,
12:22again, the confines of this time. If you like the wider collar Godzilla, because again, like this one's
12:27going to be a little bit broader here. It's a really neat release from Haya. Again, we'll bring
12:33back in the other Godzillas. Heavily, again, I feel influenced by the 1999, not so much maybe again
12:39influenced by the 2001. There's also going to be a Heat Ray Godzilla versus a version of this guy
12:46also getting released. And of course, Godzilla, if you're going to have him from Godzilla against
12:51Mechagodzilla, you'd like to think as well the team behind the scenes at Haya are eventually going to
12:55be releasing a Mechagodzilla as well. And they are definitely looking forward to picking that one up
13:00and pairing them against the King of the Monsters here. While this Godzilla is looking to touchdown on
13:05land August 2026 for the asking price of $50.99, you're unfortunately going to have to wait then
13:11for the first quarter of 2027 to roll around before you're going to be able to go and get your
13:16hands
13:17on the Mechagodzilla, which is going to be selling for $117.99. In between that time, though,
13:24Haya is also planning to drop as well the Heat Ray version of the Godzilla that we just finished having
13:29a look at, he's also looking to drop this month. He's going to be selling for $62.99. There is
13:36going
13:36to be a difference of prices. There's also going to be a difference of colors. If I get my hands
13:41on
13:41that one, of course, I will be doing the comparisons between that Godzilla and this Godzilla. And this
13:45Godzilla is a nice Godzilla. He is a little bit more, again, like the faithful, the traditional design
13:51of the character where he's got more of like the skinnier snouts. He has, again, a wider colored neck,
13:56and he has the spikier looking dorsal fins. If you don't necessarily love the look of the
14:02Godzilla from 2001, the one by franchised years predates this one by a year. If you don't like
14:09the smoother, almost like odder look of that Godzilla, pick up this one, because this one,
14:14again, has a lot of the similar designs, elements to the 1999 release, but it doesn't have the red.
14:21Also, this one, too, of the three that we've looked at, the other two that have brought in this
14:25review. He is by far, though, the darkest of the King of the Monsters, more that faithful, dark gray.
