00:00Learn to design this angular tube connector in FreeCAD.
00:03This is the final video of this series.
00:06Here you see the two tubes that need to be connected with a 45 degree joint.
00:11The body for the connector is already created, similar to what was shown in the earlier videos.
00:17To make it active, double click on the connector body.
00:20Now create a new sketch in the part design workbench.
00:25Select the XZ plane to sketch on.
00:30Go to the Circle from Center tool.
00:34First draw a circle with a diameter of 10 mm on the origin.
00:40Then draw another circle with a diameter of 130 mm, also on the origin.
00:46Select the Polyline tool.
00:51And draw a vertical line between the two circles on the Y axis.
00:56Right click once to exit the current polyline.
01:01Then draw two lines as shown, one inside the small circle and one between both circles.
01:10Right click twice to exit the Polyline tool.
01:16To make them collinear, select both lines.
01:22And add a parallel constraint to align the lines.
01:29Now select the Trim tool.
01:33And click on the circle parts outside the shape you created to remove them.
01:38Then select the Dimension tool.
01:41And add this angular constraint of 45 degrees.
01:50Also make sure that the vertical line is aligned with the Y axis.
01:55Select this vertex and click on the vertical axis.
02:00And add a coincident constraint.
02:05The sketch is fully constrained now, but some lines have to be added.
02:09First select these lines and make them construction lines.
02:18Then select the Polyline tool.
02:23And draw these lines to create a sort of rectangle.
02:30Right click once to exit the current polyline.
02:33And do the same on the other side.
02:43Select these two lines and make them equal.
02:46Select these two lines and make them equal.
02:51Select the Dimension tool.
02:55And add a length of 15mm to this line.
03:04Then add a perpendicular constraint to these two lines.
03:10Do the same for these two lines on the bottom side.
03:16But this results in an error.
03:23Undo the latest actions until the first perpendicular constraint.
03:29Sometimes an extra undo is necessary before a redo.
03:33Press CTRL plus Y.
03:35Then drag this vertex to the outside.
03:38Add the perpendicular constraint to the two lines again.
03:43You see it works now.
03:45Now exit the sketch.
03:48And go to the Pad tool.
03:52Change the mode to Symmetric.
03:55And add a length of 60mm.
03:58Click on OK to apply.
04:01Now select these four edges.
04:03Which is enough.
04:08Go to the Fillet tool.
04:13Add a radius of 5mm and click on OK.
04:22Now it's time to create a datum plane on the center of the tube joint.
04:29Select this face as the first selection.
04:34And the face on the other side as the second selection.
04:40Change the angle around the X axis to 90 degrees.
04:43And the datum plane is positioned exactly on the center of the tube joint.
04:47This plane is needed for mirroring specific features later.
04:50Click on OK to apply the datum plane.
04:54Now select this face and create a new sketch.
05:03First project this line inside the sketch.
05:05First project this line inside the sketch.
05:11Then select the centered rectangle tool.
05:15Start drawing on the vertical axis.
05:17And enter a horizontal distance of 50.2mm.
05:20Press Tab and enter a vertical distance of also 50.2mm.
05:25Press Enter, sometimes twice to apply.
05:29Select the dimension tool.
05:31And enter a vertical distance of 4.9mm between these vertices to position the rectangle on the exact center.
05:40Click on Close to exit the sketch.
05:44Go to the Pocket tool.
05:47And enter a length of 15mm.
05:52Click on OK to apply the pocket.
05:57Now hide both tubes and select these 4 edges on the inside.
06:03Don't forget to hold the Ctrl key for this.
06:11Go to the Fillet tool.
06:13And enter a radius of 5mm.
06:17Click on OK to apply the fillets.
06:21Now it's time to mirror this cut to the other side of the tube joint.
06:26Select this pocket and fillet feature while holding the Ctrl key.
06:31And go to the Mirror tool.
06:35For the plane, choose to select a reference.
06:40And click on the datum plane in the model or in the design tree.
06:46Click on OK to apply the mirror.
06:50Both sides have the right cuts now.
06:52The model is completed.
06:53Hide the datum plane and show both tubes to see what the model looks like.
06:59This was the final chapter of this video series about creating tube joints in FreeCAD.
