00:00In this video, you learned to design this angular tube connector in FreeCAD.
00:09These two square tubes will be connected to each other by a 3D printable joint.
00:14You start in the part design workbench.
00:18Then create a new body.
00:21Select it, press F2 and rename it to Connector.
00:29To change its color, select it and press Ctrl plus D to go to the Appearance menu.
00:35Click on the Appearance button and select Diffuse Color.
00:41Select or enter a color code and click on OK to apply.
00:50Click on Close twice to exit the Appearance menu.
00:56Now create a new sketch.
01:01And click on the XZ plane to sketch on.
01:08Select the Circle from Center tool.
01:12Click on the origin and drag the mouse.
01:16Enter a diameter of 20mm and press Enter to apply.
01:21Draw another circle with a diameter of 120mm.
01:28Both circles will be aligned with the tubes.
01:32Select the Line tool.
01:36And draw this vertical line between the circles.
01:44Then draw another line between the circles which is aligned with the right tube.
01:53Also draw this separate line ending on the origin.
01:58Right-click to exit the Line tool.
02:02Select the short line and change it to a construction line.
02:09Then select these two lines and add a parallel constraint.
02:16Now these lines are aligned with each other.
02:25Select these two vertices and add a vertical constraint to align them.
02:32Select the Dimension tool.
02:35Click on these two lines and add an angle of 45 degrees.
02:41Now the sketch is fully constrained.
02:43But some lines need to be cut away with the trim tool.
02:47Select the parts of both circles outside the shape.
02:51Click on Close to exit the sketch.
02:55Here you see the shape you just created.
02:58Click on Pad to extrude it.
03:02To extrude it to both sides, select Symmetric for the mode and enter 50mm for the length.
03:09Click on OK to apply.
03:13Now select the four corner edges while holding the Ctrl key.
03:23Select the Fillet tool.
03:26Enter a radius of 5mm.
03:29Click to preview and click on OK to apply.
03:34It's time to add the protrusions on both sides.
03:40Hide the right tube and the connector by clicking on the eye icon.
03:47Select this end face of the tube and use the Sub Shape Binder tool to project it inside this body.
03:55Toggle Visibilities to see what you just projected.
04:00Make the connector visible again and click on this face.
04:05Create a new sketch.
04:09Now select the External Projection tool.
04:13And select the inside contour of the tube.
04:18Right click to exit the External Projection tool.
04:21Box select the projected lines and toggle Construction Geometry.
04:29Now the lines are not construction lines anymore.
04:33Click on Close to exit the sketch.
04:36And select the Pad feature to extrude it.
04:39Leave the length at 10mm and click on OK to apply.
04:44Now hide the Shape Binder and show the tubes to see how it connects.
04:55Select the end face of the other tube now.
04:58And create a Shape Binder.
05:05Hide the tube and make the connector body visible.
05:10Toggle the visibility of the most recent feature to see where the Shape Binder is located.
05:16Select this face and create a new sketch.
05:22Hide the most recent feature to see the Shape Binder more clearly.
05:27Use the External Projection tool again.
05:30And select the inside contour of the tube.
05:35Right click to exit the External Projection tool.
05:38Box select the projected lines and toggle Construction Geometry.
05:44Click on Close to exit the sketch.
05:46Select the Pad feature to extrude it.
05:49There's no preview so something is wrong.
05:52Click on Cancel to exit the Pad tool.
05:55When you hide the Shape Binder you can clearly see if any lines are missing.
06:00Double click on the sketch to edit it.
06:03Hide the shape and make sure the Shape Binder is visible.
06:08Project any missing lines and make sure it's defined geometry.
06:16Click on Close to exit the sketch.
06:19Now select the Pad feature again.
06:21Leave the length at 10mm and click on OK to apply.
06:26The design of the connector has been finished.
06:29Show the tubes to see the complete model.
06:33I know no clearance was allowed for the protrusions.
06:37But I want to see if it fits snugly as a 3D print.

06:54It'll try to go back to the 3D printing printer with a 2D printing printer,
06:54and it'll be a little bit different.
