00:00In this FreeCAD tutorial, you learn how to assemble a threaded part and a cap to a bottle model.
00:08When you have created a new document, select the assembly workbench.
00:13Then create a new assembly
00:15and select the insert component button.
00:27You can also access the button here.
00:35Click on Open File to insert your models.
00:40First select the threaded bottle model.
00:45Then click on Open File again and select the bottle cap model.
00:51First click on the main body of the bottle model.
00:57Before you insert, you first have to save this assembly document.

01:04After the document is saved, the bottle model has been inserted.
01:10Now click on this thread body to insert it.
01:15You see it's located here at the bottom.
01:21Finally click on the body of the bottle cap to insert it.
01:25Then click on OK to finish the model insertion.
01:31This lock icon shows that the part you inserted first is grounded, so it cannot move.
01:37To hide this icon, expand joints in the tree and click on the eye icon.
01:47To move a part freely, hold the ALT key together with the left mouse button, so you can drag parts
01:53to a better position.
01:55Now let's add some assembly joints.
02:00Click on these two edges while holding the CTRL key.
02:11Then add a fixed joint.
02:18It's not necessary now, but it's possible to add an offset or rotation angle.
02:28Click on OK to apply the joint.
02:33To fix the cap on the bottle, select these two edges while holding the CTRL key.
02:44And add another fixed joint.
02:47And add another fixed joint.
02:56To look into the model, click on the View tab.
03:01And select Clipping View.
03:06Select the X or Y plane and rotate the model if necessary.
03:19To position the cap correctly, you have to add an offset.
03:26Enter an offset of 0.5 mm and click on OK to apply.
03:37Also close the Clipping View menu.
03:41So this is how a simple assembly works with the FreeCAD assembly workbench.
03:52A total of three parts were assembled.
03:55A bottle, threaded neck and a cap.
03:59By clicking the eye icons, you can hide each model.
