00:00In this video you learn how to add a threaded part to a PET bottle model in FreeCAD 1.1.
00:05The link to design this bottle model is in the description.
00:10First make sure the part design workbench is selected.
00:14Then create a new body for the thread.
00:20Press F2 to rename the body.
00:23Enter thread and press enter to apply.
00:28Make sure the body is active, otherwise double click on it.
00:34Now select the fastener's workbench.
00:40And click on this button to add a threaded rod.
00:47To get rid of all these buttons, switch back to the part design workbench.
00:54Click and hold the left mouse button and drag the threaded rod inside the thread body.
00:59Release the mouse button to place it.
01:01You see it's located at the bottom here.
01:05Select the thread body and expand the placement menu by clicking the small arrow.
01:15Now expand the position menu and enter 262mm for the Z axis.
01:21The threaded rod will move to the top of the bottle.
01:24The position depends on the height of the bottle.
01:28Select the original threaded rod and enter a size of M30.
01:36the width of the thread body.
01:37Also check the thread box to model real thread.
01:45Click on the top face of the threaded rod and create a new sketch.
01:55And select the circle from center tool.
02:00Click on the origin, enter a diameter of 25mm and press enter to apply.
02:07Click on close to exit the sketch.
02:11To cut the circle out, select the pocket tool.
02:16For the type, select through all.
02:21Click on OK to apply.
02:30Now create a new sketch and select the YZ plane.
02:40You already see the cut in the threaded rod is aligned with the bottle's wall.
02:44To remove a small part of the threaded rod, select the rectangle tool.
02:52Create a rectangle of 28 by 3mm.
03:01Press enter to apply.
03:06Select the dimension tool.
03:10Click on a lower vertex and drag the mouse.
03:13Click enter 20mm and press enter to apply.
03:21Click the right mouse button to exit the dimension tool.
03:24Only one symmetrical constraint is needed.
03:27Click on these two vertices and then on the vertical axis.
03:34Then click on this button to add a symmetrical constraint.
03:39To remove the redundant constraint, click on this number and press delete.
03:43Click on close to exit the fully constrained sketch.

03:51Thanks!
03:52To cut the rectangle out, select the pocket tool.
03:55For the type, select through all.
03:58For the mode, select symmetric to cut it to both sides.
04:05Click on OK to apply.
04:15You see the threaded part is aligned with the bottleneck.
04:17Let's edit this sketch of the bottle model.
04:21The bottleneck has a diameter of 28mm
04:30and the thickness was created 1.5mm to the inside.
04:40That's why the circle that was cut out has a diameter of 25mm,
04:45which is the opening of the bottleneck.
04:47Click on close to exit this sketch.
04:55To create a temporary section view, click on the View tab and select Clipping View.
05:04Select Clipping Y to cut the view.
05:09And you see the bottle neck is perfectly aligned with the threaded rod.
05:16Click on close to exit the section view.
05:21It could also be interesting to model a threaded cap for this bottle.
05:26And 3D print the parts to see if they fit.
