00:00:13Hello and welcome to Gangs All Here. My name is Ryan Sampson. That's my guy Frankie Rittery
00:00:16from U-Stadium and that's Brian Costello, our Jets beat writer from The Post. Today,
00:00:20guys, is Thursday, October 15th. Week 6. Jets at the Patriots. Their first AFC East matchup
00:00:27of the season. It's a big one. The Jets enter 2-3, the Patriots 3-2. Kaz, there's a lot
00:00:34of
00:00:34things to talk about in this matchup, but before we get to any of it, as always, how you doing
00:00:39today, buddy? I'm good. How are you guys? We're good. I think vibes are high. We got a Bailey
00:00:44bro shirt. Vibes are high, baby. The Bailey bros are here. Bailey is here to save the day,
00:00:50everybody. I said the Jets are back, Kaz, and we drafted David Bailey. Maybe we're starting
00:00:55to get back. I don't think we're going to, I don't think we win that game last week without
00:00:58the big DB 3-1. So, you know, the Bailey bros are here, Kaz. I'm sending you a shirt, by
00:01:04the way. Please don't. Please don't. Kaz is disgusting. He's like, what the hell's going
00:01:12on? Frankie will be selling those t-shirts though on U-Stadium for Jets fans. Kaz, look, I think,
00:01:19as always, I got to start with the vibe check of this team. Coming off a win, ending that
00:01:23three-game losing streak, and we heard Garrett Wilson's comments yesterday about how this
00:01:28is a big-ass game. What is the vibe check of this team heading into week six?
00:01:33Yeah, they're feeling good, guys. You know, they got to win. So, it's always a good locker
00:01:37room after a win. You know, I think they're encouraged by particularly the way to play
00:01:42defense on Sunday. I think the offense realizes it's got to do some things better. But, yeah,
00:01:48they're feeling good right now. As they should. And, Frankie, you know, like you said,
00:01:53David Bailey was really the cause of that defense kind of igniting. They had eight sacks total. He
00:01:59has three himself. Puts on a breakout performance in his rookie campaign. What are your vibes after
00:02:05watching him do that and the Jets getting the win? Well, we spoke about this earlier in the year
00:02:10that, and I specifically thought that the front seven would be a strength of this football team.
00:02:16I don't think we saw that until last week's game. Kings Anagbari, Rye, and Kaz, he had a big game
00:02:22himself. I think the whole D-line, the defensive tackles played well. Tavondre Sweat played well.
00:02:26Daryl Jackson Jr. made a big impact in that fourth quarter. We finally saw the things that I was
00:02:32expecting to see earlier in the year. Linebackers played well, too. Jamie and Sherwood back-to-back
00:02:38solid week. So, that's something that I think Aaron Glenn needs to do if he wants to win games.
00:02:43And another thing that he did, and I think when you have guys like Bailey and Anagbari
00:02:48playing well that you're able to do is you're able to bring the corner up on the line. Jarvis
00:02:55Brownlee Jr. is able to come up on the line of scrimmage and cause confusion. That's the
00:03:01number one thing when it comes to playing defense in the NFL. Are you able to confuse what the
00:03:05offense wants to do or confuse them in them not knowing what you're doing? That's something
00:03:10that you can do when your guys are playing well up front. Jarvis Brownlee, man. One of Bailey's
00:03:15sacks was because of Brownlee. I know. The tackle, Bailey was unaccounted for. The tackle slid
00:03:20protection inside for Brownlee and left Bailey uncovered. Have you gotten off your high yet from
00:03:25that week? No, I'm just getting started. All right. It's still Thursday. I'll be off this. He's got a huge
00:03:29opportunity. But, like, he's got a huge opportunity. We're going to see whether or not Will Campbell
00:03:33plays this week. Kaz, this is a major, long list of injury report for both the Jets and Patriots,
00:03:40it feels like, this week. Let's start with the Jets, though, Kaz. We heard Aaron Glenn speak
00:03:45yesterday about Adonai Mitchell, Brees Hall, Dylan Parham, Joseph Asai. He considers them all week to
00:03:51week. Do you expect any of those guys to be a late add that they're going to be able to
00:03:56play this
00:03:56suit up this week or no? No. Week to week in Aaron Glenn speak means they're not playing.
00:04:02That's pretty, whenever he comes out Wednesday and says these guys are week to week, that means
00:04:05they're not playing. So, yeah, no, I don't think any of those guys would play. I'd be surprised.
00:04:10So, you know, we'll see the injury report today if someone ends up being limited, but I'd be
00:04:14surprised. The big one there is the Adonai Mitchell. We find out that he does get a procedure
00:04:19done. Was it his finger or his hand? Because I heard both from the media. He said hand, but I
00:04:24think it was
00:04:25it was his finger, you know, that was listed. I don't think, you know, when the picture we had
00:04:30that basically the cast was on his fingers, like he did something to it. I don't know if he tore
00:04:35a
00:04:35ligament in his finger, if he broke a finger or what happened. I mean, it was clear from the day
00:04:39one
00:04:40that they were downplaying this injury and Aaron Glenn was lying about it. And, you know, yesterday he
00:04:44kind of fessed up that they actually did have it. We asked him last Friday and he said no, that
00:04:49there
00:04:49was no procedure. And then all of a sudden Wednesday he had a procedure. So I don't know
00:04:54why they decided that they were going to, you know, not be just truthful about the injury.
00:05:00It seems weird because he wasn't playing. So I don't see what they gained from that. But
00:05:04yeah, he's they should have put him on IR because now, you know, I think he's going to miss his
00:05:09fourth game. So they kind of they blew that. They wasted a roster spot on for these four
00:05:14weeks. But, you know, I thought he'd be back this week. So I think that one's a big one
00:05:18that that he's out. And they really I thought Sunday that was one of my takeaways from Sunday's
00:05:22game is how much they miss. I had my Mitchell because he just he's a deep threat and they
00:05:28don't have that without him. And the offense really misses that. Go ahead. Cause this really
00:05:33quick. There's been speculation. I'm just throwing this out there because I read this
00:05:37online that it's possible that maybe why Glenn is not talking about 80 Mitchell's injury
00:05:43is because it could have been a non football related injury. Do you think there's anything
00:05:48to that? Cause it doesn't make any sense why he wouldn't just come out and say, he
00:05:52got his finger caught in a Jersey or whatever. And there's this, you know, ligament. Yeah.
00:05:57Right. Like, what do you think's going on? I don't think that makes any sense. Cause why,
00:06:00why would he like that? He doesn't have to tell us how the injury happened. He can still tell
00:06:04us what the injury is like. True. And to me, you know, you, he was, he was not, he was
00:06:10not
00:06:10injured going to Thursday's practice. He was injured after Thursday's practice. That's when
00:06:14the injury happened. Right. Like he wasn't, he didn't miss any practice Wednesday. And
00:06:18then he was limited. If you show up limited on Thursday, that means you got hurt in Thursday's
00:06:22practice. True. So I believe that I believe, you know, and I think he may have got his finger
00:06:27caught in a Jersey and it might've been really bad. Uh, you know, it might've ripped the
00:06:30ligament. Remember, you guys remember Fitzpatrick in 2015. Yeah. He heard it. I think it was
00:06:36his thumb on his left hand was, you know, he had to have surgery. He had surgery that
00:06:40week and he ended up playing because it was, you know, it was his, uh, offhand and he's
00:06:46a quarterback. So it was a little bit easier to come back from and a wide receiver. Cause
00:06:50I, I, I was fighting back and forth with the trolls last night because of the Adonai Mitchell
00:06:55injury saying the same thing you just said. I don't understand why Glenn didn't come out
00:07:00immediately and say, Hey, Adonai is going to be out for a little bit. He's got a, uh, a finger
00:07:06injury. He might have to go evaluation for surgery. We're going to evaluate those
00:07:10things and then update you along the way. But instead he plays this game of, no, he's
00:07:15out, uh, finger injury. Not sure. You know, won't tell you if it's a surgery. Won't tell
00:07:20you how long it's out. Won't tell you if it's a fracture and people are like, well,
00:07:25what'd you expect that? Who are they going to sign? Who are they going to bring? Meaning
00:07:28Jets fans, who are they going to bring in is in this room? If it's a roster spot, they
00:07:32can only dress 48. And I'm like, well, they're down Omar Cooper. They're down Adonai Mitchell.
00:07:36They need receiver help. Tim Patrick only returned last week. Don't you think they could
00:07:41have signed another body off the streets or someone off the practice squad onto the active
00:07:45roster? It might not even be wide receiver either, right? It might need another position.
00:07:49Like it's just those roster spots are valuable. You see, they make moves every Tuesday, right?
00:07:53They're juggling every Tuesday based on the injuries of who they're bringing in, who's
00:07:57going to practice squad, that kind of thing. So they could have done something. It just,
00:08:01it's the IR when they change the rules and they let people come back after four weeks,
00:08:06that's become a tool for teams that they use all the time, right? We've seen it with
00:08:11the Jets. If you think a guy's going to miss four weeks, you put them on IR and use that
00:08:15roster spot. And I, I, one thing to be clear on, I understand Friday before Detroit playing
00:08:21that game, Ryan, because then you had Detroit doesn't know if he's playing and that, I understand
00:08:26that part of the gamesmanship. When we got Wayne in play and the next Wednesday, I think the next
00:08:31Wednesday, he wasn't practicing. I feel like Glenn probably then should have been, all right,
00:08:34here's the deal. He, you know, whatever, he had surgery. He's going to be out for three weeks. I
00:08:39don't, I didn't, don't get the downplaying it after that. It doesn't make sense to me. And it's
00:08:45just weird. It's tough to trust the coach when he's, now he's talking about injuries and he gets
00:08:49squirrely about things. Cause we did hear though, that Kenyon Sadiq was limited with concussion
00:08:54protocol. Dane Belton was limited. Omar Cooper was activated off IR. He's practicing, uh, Kiko
00:09:00Maui Noah was full. Are all those guys you expect to suit up or are they going to slow roll
00:09:06Omar
00:09:06Cooper into this thing too? He suits up. Sadiq is a tricky one concussion, right? But it seems like
00:09:12he's pretty far along in the protocol. I saw him in the locker room yesterday. Typically guys, if
00:09:17they're not doing well in the concussion protocol are not in the locker room. Uh, so I, I, I'm pretty
00:09:23positive about Sadiq, but I think it's one of those things you never know. He has to pass
00:09:28certain steps before he's activated for Sunday. Uh, but yeah, I, I don't see why Cooper would
00:09:34have to sit out. I mean, he's, he's, if the calf is healed, the calf is healed. And I think
00:09:39you, you, you roll with him. And, uh, on the Patriots side, Will Campbell went down, exited
00:09:44the game last week against the Raiders as did Travion Henderson, but they were both limit listed
00:09:50as limited yesterday, not out or did not participate in practice. So that's interesting
00:09:54to me. And the Patriots also activated their wide receiver and AJ Brown off IR. So I don't
00:10:00know, cause like we thought maybe they'd be coming in banged up. They might not be as banged
00:10:04up. What do you expect to like, who's going to suit up for the Patriots this week?
00:10:09Yeah. I'd be surprised if Campbell and Henderson were able to suit up after just getting injured
00:10:12Sunday. And those seem like pretty significant injuries. I think this is some gamesmanship from
00:10:16Mike Rabel here, uh, you know, with the injury report. I think he also listed everybody that
00:10:21had a hangnail on the injury report yesterday. Um, AJ Brown, I have no feel for, uh, high ankle
00:10:28sprints, tough to come back from, especially for a receiver seems a little quick, but you
00:10:33know, I, I, I'm going to guess that's probably, they're probably going to see how he comes through
00:10:36these three days of practice and make a decision Friday on that. That'd be my guess on him.
00:10:40But, um, you know, it wouldn't be shocking if it went either way.
00:10:44Yeah. It's, uh, he's a big weapon and it'd be tough for the Jets to have to go up against
00:10:48AJ Brown. Even if he's not full a hundred percent, he is still a weapon down the field for them.
00:10:53Uh, cause amongst all those injuries, which would you say matters the most for this Jets
00:10:58and Patriots game?
00:11:00Well, AJ Brown is the most significant, right? I think, cause I just feel like he's a, he's
00:11:05such a good receiver and I think he's a matchup problem for the Jets. I just, who do you,
00:11:10who do you put on him? Um, you know, he could, if he's healthy and Drake may seems like he's
00:11:17rolling now that that could be trouble. Uh, I've, I've heard some things that Will Campbell
00:11:22was kind of playing. Okay. Like he's, he's been, he hasn't been great. So I don't know
00:11:26how significant that one is. And Ramondre Stevenson is a pretty good back. They still have with
00:11:31Henderson. So to me, Brown is the one that's significant there. I think we didn't mention
00:11:37this guy's coming back. Christian Gonzalez is significant on defense. They're getting
00:11:40him back. He said, he's going to play, uh, that's, you know, he's obviously a great
00:11:44cornerback and, uh, that's going to be big for their defense. Yeah. Something interesting
00:11:48about that. No, we will Campbell. So the Patriots now are slotted to start Caleb Lomu. You remember
00:11:54Caleb Lomu played with Spencer Fano at Utah. We just played against Spencer Fano. Bailey did
00:12:00get a sack against him. Just throwing that out there. Caleb Lomu is a first round pick just
00:12:04throwing that out there. So he's, he's a good player going through and looking at the,
00:12:07you know, draft process. He was one of my favorite players, I think, offensively in the draft. So
00:12:12he's no slouch playing left tackle and he's the opposite of Will Campbell, longer arms,
00:12:17bigger body kind of tackle. Just throwing that out there. It's, it's a good note by you,
00:12:21but I think that's where we also go into this part of the show now is the David Bailey of
00:12:24it all
00:12:25cause look AFC defensive player of the week. He was named after a three sack, four hit four
00:12:30quarterback hip, nine pressures against Cleveland Browns. Six of those pressures came in the fourth
00:12:34quarter. Can you help us put this in perspective cause and what we're seeing from David Bailey,
00:12:39five sacks and five games to start his, you know, his career. He's the, he's the 13th rookie to do
00:12:45it since 1982 with five sacks and five games. The only other jet was Hugh Douglas in 1995. What is,
00:12:50what is it about this start from David Bailey that's impressed you most?
00:12:54How quick it's been, right? Like I, I, I expected David Bailey to have a good season. I wasn't sure
00:12:59he'd do it right out of the box. And, you know, last week at this time, people were talking about
00:13:04why he wasn't getting off to a faster start. So three sacks changes things. He had a great,
00:13:09great game. He had a great game on Sunday. Um, I wouldn't get hung up on the five sack total
00:13:15number. Right. Cause we've seen, there's going to be, there's going to be weeks where he doesn't
00:13:19have sacks. You know, well, well, we got four sacks against the Browns last year. And, uh, so
00:13:25to me, it's more impressive. It's just down and down out, how consistent he's been, how high a motor
00:13:30he has. He's playing the run really well. He's, he's affecting the play. And when he's not getting
00:13:35a sack, I thought a lot of the Sean's like scrambles and he was moving around because
00:13:40it was barely was back there. So I'm not so hung up on the number rather than sacks. And I
00:13:44get that's
00:13:45how we measure everything. And that's what we'll be able to at the end of the year. But to me,
00:13:48he's just been a professional from day one. And he, I haven't seen any signs that he's
00:13:55struggling as a rookie. Um, you know, and I think he's adjusted to the NFL really well.
00:14:00There was some crazy comments during the broadcast about he's the best player in the league already.
00:14:06I don't know if we're, I can't put him there, but I think, I think there's something about
00:14:11exactly. But I will say about this defensive unit cause we've seen how he's already impacted.
00:14:17And Frankie was just talking about before how the jets can blitz and how they can do these
00:14:21sim pressures and line him up in multiple spots. Cause they did finally move around last week.
00:14:26Is it too early to call him the best player on this jets defense right now?
00:14:32Hmm. Um, no, I'd probably go there. Right. Cause I think, uh, that was a debate we had. I remember
00:14:40preseason, like who was the best, who's, who'd you say is the best player in the defense?
00:14:45You know, it's probably what him to Mario Mika. Yeah. Is that, that, that'd be the conversation,
00:14:49I think. So I think that's a fair conversation to have. I mean, he's had a, he's had a huge
00:14:53impact,
00:14:54uh, clearly already. So I wouldn't argue that. How do you feel about that?
00:14:58Listen, man. And to what cause was saying, it's not only the sack numbers. Cause if you look at it,
00:15:04right, five sacks in the first five weeks as a rookie since 2000, only two players have done that
00:15:11in their first five weeks, not first five games. It's Von Miller. And then it's a guy named Mark
00:15:15Anderson who actually played for the Patriots, had a very weird career, by the way. So I was looking
00:15:19at his numbers. I'm like, that, that, that was another game log thing. I went through cause it
00:15:23kind of blew my mind a little bit. You know, I like to go through the game logs, but, um,
00:15:27the splash
00:15:27plays are where David Bailey is, is, is, is really impressing me. It's, it's the TFLs. It's the run
00:15:33stops. It's sniffing out a screen. The awareness that he has on a football field, I think is where
00:15:40I'm even surprised, you know, like I've loved Bailey since I first put on his tape at tech and
00:15:47even Stanford before that. It's the, the way that he is, his awareness, his ability to diagnose
00:15:53things helps out everybody. He is a real good edge. He's not just a real good sack edge or sack
00:16:01artist, or he's on a DPR. He is an outside linebacker slash edge and we're seeing it. And listen, I'm
00:16:08going to give Glenn a little credit on, on it. Like I think Glenn worked with Aiden Hutchinson.
00:16:12He was successful with him. Glenn was a great defensive player in this league. Aaron Glenn,
00:16:17I think played with Hugh Douglas. Did he for a year? Maybe he did. I think he did. Yeah. Yeah.
00:16:22They played together. Yeah. So like he saw that, you know, Parcells, they don't want to run the
00:16:26four, three, one, three, four, whatever. That's another convo. Um, but David Bailey's playing the
00:16:32position the way it's supposed to be played. He's one of a very few edge players in the league
00:16:35that is not only getting pressures, but is also getting run stops. It's a big advantage
00:16:40to our defense. I, again, don't think we win that game against Cleveland. If Bailey's not
00:16:46on the field, I just don't. It's, it's a thing, Ryan. Yeah. One other thing about Bailey that
00:16:50stood out to me was the Jets put out the video of the post game locker room and he gets
00:16:55the
00:16:55game ball and the locker room exploded. Oh yeah. When he got the game ball. And like you've seen
00:17:01that you saw in training camp and that video shows it like he has the respect of a lot of
00:17:05veteran teammates, which doesn't always happen for rookies and doesn't always happen for number
00:17:09two overall picks who come sometimes have a sense of entitlement about them and rub teammates
00:17:15the wrong way. But this guy from all accounts, like, you know, he's there early in the morning
00:17:19work and he's there late at night working. He's, I think they love the fact that he's not
00:17:24like on social media and you know, they love all that stuff. So he is, he's endeared himself
00:17:30to teammates, which, which tells you something too.
00:17:33Yeah. He's an impressive young man. I mean, we had him on the show before the season started.
00:17:37We got to ask him about what he was expectations were this year. Cause you could just tell from
00:17:41his, from the way he carries himself and the way he speaks about himself. He is all about
00:17:45football. That is all the thing he cares about is, is crap, his craft and making it the best
00:17:50he can.
00:17:50Did you see Garrett Wilson in that clip cause you see Garrett Wilson just has a huge smile
00:17:55on his face. Like it's looking at your little brother being successful. And then Garrett actually
00:17:58tweets something online about, Hey, you know, he had five sacks or in his first, like I
00:18:04got three sacks.
00:18:04What did Glenn call him flamethrower?
00:18:06Yeah.
00:18:06That's a great nickname for him. Flamethrower. I like that. Um, it's not just about David Bailey
00:18:11though, for this upcoming game cause it's a young edge war. When you would talk about
00:18:15this matchup cause the Patriots got two young guys that are pretty darn good right now to
00:18:19start the year. And Elijah Ponder and Gabe Jakas, Jakas, Jakas, Gabe Jakas. Cause talk to me
00:18:26about these two guys that jets are going to be going up against on their side when they're
00:18:30on offense, Elijah Ponder. He's got a really good ability right now to, to get after the
00:18:36quarterback. Uh, PFF has him at five sacks. He's four and a half officially. He has an
00:18:4082.4, uh, edge grade. That's 11th out of 106 edge players, 13 run stops. Uh, he's had
00:18:47at least a half sack and four straight games, including two sacks and a strip sack against
00:18:51the Raiders. These are two, two young edges. The jets are going to be going up against as
00:18:57well. Yeah, I think it's about the jets offensive line, right? Which right now to me is one of
00:19:02the biggest question marks about this team. Uh, we thought they were, you know, we had
00:19:05high expectations for them coming into the year. It's been shaky and it's been up and
00:19:10down. They've kind of taken turns having bad weeks. It feels like, uh, you know, Membu
00:19:15had a week that wasn't great. Olu had a week that wasn't great last week. Joe Tippman had
00:19:19a week that wasn't great. They're committing a lot of penalties. You know, if you go back and
00:19:22look at the penalties from that game, there was so many on the offensive line. Um, so this is a
00:19:28good test for them. The Patriots are a good defense. They're well-coached defense. They got
00:19:33to the Superbowl last year, a large part because of that defense. And, uh, the guys you mentioned
00:19:39are going to give them a test. And I'm curious to see, can this offensive line put together a
00:19:45solid game? Uh, cause I feel like they haven't really put it all together yet this year. There's
00:19:49been the first game, I guess the Titans game, they played really well in that game, but since then
00:19:53they haven't really played well. Uh, there's been a lot of sacks. Some of those are on Geno. Some of
00:19:58those are on the offensive line. The running game has kind of been hit or miss. So, uh, I think
00:20:04this
00:20:04is a big week for the offensive line. It certainly is. And, uh, not only are they going against these
00:20:09young edges, there's guys like Draymond Jones who was limited Wednesday as well. Uh, there are some
00:20:14real players in the middle of this defense, uh, like cause was mentioning to Frankie, uh, between
00:20:19these edges. I think this is a fun question. If you take David Bailey off the board, which one of
00:20:23these young edges between ponder and Yacus really scary the most? I mean, listen, man, Gabe Yacus,
00:20:30man, he, uh, or Ackus, excuse me. He is a player that when you were looking at him at Illinois,
00:20:37you're seeing a guy that is a man amongst boys and people weren't sure if he'd be able to bring
00:20:44that
00:20:45into the NFL because you're playing against men, right? He is bringing that into the NFL. I mean,
00:20:50he's bullying offensive tackles. When you look at all the metrics, you have ponder on there,
00:20:57Ackus, Bailey, Will Anderson, Hutchinson. I mean, that that's, you know, uh, Rousseau,
00:21:03those guys are there and you have two Patriots on there actually. So they're in every conversation or
00:21:07every metric you look at, you see one of those two or both of them. Ackus though is going to
00:21:12be
00:21:12an issue, I think for Olu. And I'm really curious how that looks. I think Membu is a better matchup
00:21:18for him. He plays more on the left, but they move him around a little bit. It's going to be
00:21:21interesting to see how Olu and even Membu, Membu's game strength isn't an issue. You're going to be
00:21:28tested with this kid. This is one of the strongest edge players right now in the NFL, young guys.
00:21:35He's going to give us some issues, but this is a good test for those guys. Ponder's a long edge,
00:21:41long, lengthy moves. Well, for, for, for a bigger guy. I thought Olu played well against Jared
00:21:45Verskaz. I mean, he held up pretty good against the, the young ed, the young rookie, uh, young
00:21:49edge, I should say. Last week, the tackles had the game of the interior. Yeah. Struggled. Right.
00:21:55And it's like, like I said, they're kind of taking turns. It's it is having had a week where
00:21:59it felt like the five guys other than the week one where the five guys played really
00:22:03well. Um, you know, last week, the interior was the issue. Well, well, the interior is
00:22:08going to have a battle this week because you have what Christian ball more. And then you
00:22:12have a Milton, Milton Williams, Milton Williams. Yeah. You have two really good quality defensive
00:22:17tackle. That whole defensive line guys is, is, is one of the best in football this year.
00:22:22Yeah. And I also think if you're looking at it, teams are giving the jets issues with games
00:22:27up front, you know, TD stunts blitzes. So I think if you're, you're game planning for
00:22:33the jets right now, you're definitely planning on doing a lot of that. Cause that's, that's
00:22:37giving them issues. Look, uh, the Patriots defense overall, they are, uh, sixth in the
00:22:44NFL in terms of yardage allowed on the ground and run game. So they, you know, they're going
00:22:48to try and stop the Jets run, uh, and, and try to bottle up Braille and Allen this week
00:22:53too. Uh, they give up 90.8 rush yards per game. Uh, Milton Williams, their defensive
00:22:58tackle has 12 pressures in the interior. That's pretty crazy. Six of them were against
00:23:02the Raiders last week. Christian Barmore. Uh, he's a beast. Like they got real guys up
00:23:07front. And like Kaz said, I think this is where I, I think this is where the game is probably
00:23:13going to be ultimately won or lost is how the jets offensive line can handle this Patriots
00:23:17defensive front. Um, cause if you were to say one reminder of, uh, last year, the game
00:23:25at the Meadowlands, which was utterly forgettable for, for every reason. Right. Except if you
00:23:30remember the end of halftime, the end of the first half, uh, Membu and Barmore were ready
00:23:36to kill each other. Yeah, that's right. And like the jets offensive line does not like Christian
00:23:43Barmore. I can tell you that. So that's something to watch on Sunday. That's fun. That's always fun
00:23:48to watch. Uh, and look, cause if you were to say there's a, I mean, is it easy to say
00:23:53that Jordan
00:23:53Merrith is the weak link on this, this line right now, because we've seen since he stepped in for
00:23:58Parham, it feels like there's just not enough communication between the guys right now.
00:24:03Yeah. And think about it. He got here. He was a, you know, cut down weekend. Uh, so it's been,
00:24:09you know, he hasn't been here very long. He hasn't, he hasn't gotten a lot of time on task with
00:24:12these
00:24:12guys and he's a backup for a reason. So yeah, I think he's definitely been the weakest of the
00:24:17five of them. Well, cause during our live watch party show at the ready, shout outs to them.
00:24:23They did a great job. The tacos were awesome. By the way, those state quesadillas free tacos for
00:24:27everyone. Yeah. I'm not a big quesadilla guy, but they'll stay quesadillas kind of sold me.
00:24:31But, um, right. Cause during the show, you know what I said to me when we were like on commercial,
00:24:37he goes, can I just tell you something? I think Joe Tippmann might just be slightly overrated.
00:24:42Like the next play you see Tippmann just get manhandled. Now this, I don't think Tippmann's
00:24:48overrated, but he's a guy that this week he's going to be super important because he had a bad
00:24:55game in past pro last week. It was awful. It was awful all over the place. I want to see
00:25:00him this
00:25:00week. Cause those guys know how to get pressure on the quarterback. Like you just talked about with
00:25:03Milton and, and, and, and Ballmark. So guys, like, I don't think I've been, I don't think I've been shy
00:25:07in terms of sharing my opinion on Joe Tippmann. I think he's a light, light guard. And I think
00:25:12he's, I really do believe he's better off at center. Uh, I know other people have disagreements
00:25:17there with me, but I just, I don't think he's the type of guy you want as your right guard,
00:25:23especially with member. Who's a power guy. If I'm going to establish a run, I need my,
00:25:28I need body movers up front. And I just typical guards don't play at his size and are effective.
00:25:34And I think the other thing that was shocking to me last week cause he was getting abused in past
00:25:40pro and it was, it was one-on-ones. It wasn't like it was stunts and twists as much. He
00:25:44was
00:25:44getting abused one-on-one and it felt like that's a, that's an issue that can happen and rear its
00:25:49ugly
00:25:49head again this week. Yeah. Look, I think he's overrated by some people in the fan base that,
00:25:56that we're going way too high on him. You know? Um, I think he's a fine starting guard. I, I,
00:26:05there's, there's also a notion of like, you have to have an all pro at every position.
00:26:09That's not going to happen. So I think you need some, you need some dudes that are just good
00:26:12starters. And I think Tiffman is one of those guys and he had a bad week. He had a really
00:26:16bad
00:26:16week. Let's see if he bounces back from that one. He usually is not that bad, right? Like I,
00:26:22that was a rarity. He's, he's usually a guy you don't really notice either way out there. He's,
00:26:27he's not, you know, so, um, I think he'll probably have a bounce back week this week.
00:26:32I'll say something. I'm looking up some numbers right now with Tiffman. If you do qualified snaps
00:26:37for guards, he's not ranked very high at all. He's actually 32nd in pass blocking grade out of
00:26:44all guards in the NFL. Unqualified. He's outside the top 50, but in true pass sets, he's ranked at
00:26:50a 57 per like points. They like, that's what you're talking about. A true pass that where you're
00:26:55getting. Yeah. No. And again, you can't blame, you can't blame. Yeah. I mean, when he's in his
00:26:59one-on-ones, he, it was ugly last week, but like Kaz was saying before, and this is something about
00:27:05Gino of it all, he does take sacks here because he does hold onto the ball too long. It feels
00:27:09like
00:27:09and, and that I can't put everything on this offensive line in terms of, cause right now
00:27:13they're giving up at least three sacks or more per game, right? Like that's, that's not good.
00:27:17That's not going to help, help your offense. And they're doing it cause it feels like in the
00:27:21worst time, like third down or second down. And I remember the Detroit game, you give up two
00:27:25straight sacks after you get close to the red zone. Like those are the sacks that are killer
00:27:30in the moment, like situational wise. Yeah. Yeah. You're right. And, um, I think Gino needs
00:27:40to get the ball a little faster. I don't know if he can though. I think that's his game is,
00:27:44this is kind of who he is. So, uh, they're, they're gonna have to try to hold up longer,
00:27:48but it's, um, yeah, it's been a lot of sacks. I'll say this with Gino, the one thing,
00:27:54the reason he's getting sacked also, there's no real escapability for him. You know, he leads
00:27:58the NFL in pressure to sack percentage. So he has the highest pressure leading to a sack
00:28:05percentage in the NFL, meaning there's not much escapability from him when he is getting
00:28:09pressure. I mean, he's in his mid thirties. He's not that type of quarterback anymore.
00:28:13He's a pocket passer. I also think they miss Brees in this role. You're right. Brees is an outlet.
00:28:18Brees is a guy that when he's in trouble, he can just go to Brees. Braylon is not the same
00:28:22type of receiver as Brees is. I would hope Isaiah Davis was, but they benched him after that sack
00:28:28cause. Yes. And then, and then, you know, Sadiq, the injury could be that. Yeah. But like,
00:28:36yeah, he kind of needs outlets that he doesn't have right now. Good call. Cooper can help in
00:28:40that regard as well. Yep. That's a good, it's a good, good call cause. Uh, well look, the offense
00:28:45is 26th in yards. It's 27th in scoring. Uh, they couldn't score after that first scripted drive
00:28:51until late in the game cause last week. And we talked about how much they shot themselves in
00:28:55the foot. They were constantly playing behind the sticks guys in the first down. We talked cause I,
00:29:00I think this is still more conversation there, a larger part of how big of an issue is this
00:29:05with Frank Reich and the way he's calling the game. Is he putting these guys in the best
00:29:10position to succeed on the field? Yeah. He could use a good game this week,
00:29:16right? Cause it hasn't been pretty. The last two weeks have not been good. Um, so I think Frank
00:29:22Reich can answer some questions. Uh, but just like we talked about the offensive line Patriots are a
00:29:26good test for him. They, they've got a good defense. Let's see if he comes up with some answers. You
00:29:31know, they're going to take away Garrett. They're going to, whether it's Gonzalez or whatever they're
00:29:35going to do, they're going to try to take away Garrett. Can he get them open? Can he figure it
00:29:39out?
00:29:39Uh, can he incorporate other guys into this, uh, and, and get something going? They ran the ball
00:29:46last week pretty well. I don't know. You know, I think that was the conditions helped in that regard.
00:29:52Um, but you know, we'll see if they can keep that going as well. But yeah, I think Frank Reich,
00:29:57this, this is a big week for him, right? It certainly is. Uh, and, and Frankie, I'm, I'm curious when
00:30:02you're looking at this Braylon, like Kaz said, 24 carries 116 yards, 88 of those came after contact.
00:30:08So he was able to make guys miss. He was able to get some, some yards after contact there.
00:30:15Can they get this run game going again against this Patriots front?
00:30:19Well, if you have Braylon Allen running between the tackles, you see how much different that looks
00:30:23are the Patriots going to miss as many tackles as the, as the, I mean, listen, with that weather too,
00:30:28I was telling Ryan, it's tough to grab. It's hard to tackle. Yeah. Yeah. You can't grab
00:30:32Claude. You're slipping. It's a slide. And so it was actually a good game for Braylon's sake
00:30:35in terms of him, you know, getting his first big game here. Um, good conditions for that.
00:30:40I'll say this, the running game that Frank Reich wants to run. I think it makes more sense of back
00:30:47like Braylon. I think the problem with Frank Reich is I don't think he understands what he wants to
00:30:52do with this offense yet. I think when you throw Brees Hall, Garrett Wilson, Kenyon Sadiq, even Mason
00:30:58Taylor, you throw all these pieces in and you're telling an offensive coordinator with a quarterback
00:31:04that he just started, uh, you know, coaching with, um, it's tough. I think he's trying to figure it
00:31:11out because we saw that first drive was awesome last week, right? You know, Garrett had 70 yards on
00:31:15that first drive. I mean, it was simple. It was Garrett and Braylon. Yeah. Honestly, he should just
00:31:19keep it that simple. Sometimes I think like, you know, what is it? Kiss, keep it simple, stupid.
00:31:23Yeah. He's told me that all the time. Um, you know, and, and I think that he needs to start
00:31:28doing
00:31:29that. I think he wants to get a little cute with Sadiq and stuff, but listen, Garrett Wilson's a top
00:31:3310 receiver in this game. If you're in a, if you're in weather like that, Braylon Allen is,
00:31:38is an above average kind of back. Brees Hall is an above average running back. Make go to your guys
00:31:44that, that, that have proven it, or, you know, can do it. I'm not interested in Isaiah Williams
00:31:49playing the slot. I'm not interested in, you know, trying to do some stuff with Omar Cooper is going
00:31:53to probably take some of that away from him. If you're going to start like cause, would you expect
00:31:58in three wide receiver sets, it'd be Garrett, Tim Patrick and Omar Cooper for all intents and
00:32:03purposes? Yeah. As long as he's up to speed on everything, which I would assume he is
00:32:08been in all the meetings and stuff. So I, yeah, I would think so. And that's, that's where I think
00:32:12it could probably alleviate some of that Garrett Wilson pressure because like cause you had just
00:32:16said, like it was the Garrett Wilson show last week, seven catches, 104 yards in the touchdown.
00:32:21Uh, Christian Gonzalez is one of the best, if not the best corners in the NFL. I've seen Garrett go
00:32:28up
00:32:28against him. He has not done well in his career against Christian Gonzalez. Yeah. Then again,
00:32:32Garrett said yesterday. Oh, he did. Garrett's somebody asked about the match. Garrett's somebody
00:32:37asked about the back and forth. I think that was the term to use. And they said, there's
00:32:40been no back and forth. He's, he's thought he's been, you know, he's gotten the best of
00:32:44me in these matchups. So, and I will say this, right? Like Gino can be the X factor there
00:32:51a little bit where maybe you take some shots with Garrett and actually try to get him the
00:32:56ball a little bit more. Justin Fields could not throw like, let's be real. Couldn't throw.
00:33:01Aaron Rogers didn't love going downfield. He loved this to keep everything short. I wonder
00:33:07if Gino can actually get Garrett the ball downfield and get him some more opportunities, but will
00:33:14he take those shots? Yes. Well, look at, I think Gino's been playing this whole season
00:33:18a little bit conservatively. He hasn't thrown a pick yet. You know, he has a very high completion
00:33:22percentage, almost 70%, but I want him to almost take a few more shots downfield. Now, listen,
00:33:27last week's game, that's the weather conditions didn't call for that. So you could just kind
00:33:31of put that game off to the side. But yeah, I think this is a game cause and I'm sure
00:33:36you
00:33:36agree to Ryan, like they're going to have to take shots down the field. And I think Garrett's
00:33:40good enough where at this point, I don't care who the other corner is. There's not a lockdown
00:33:45guy in the NFL. There's no Darrell Rivas out there in the NFL.
00:33:48Christian Gonzalez is pretty close to that. Nah, man. I don't, I don't, I don't think
00:33:51anyone's at that point though, where Gary, I'm not saying he's Rivas, but I'm saying
00:33:55to be like a lockdown kind of guy, I don't know. Christian Gonzalez is a lockdown corner.
00:34:00I haven't looked enough of it, Ryan, to say that, to be honest with you. I think he's a
00:34:04very good cornerback. I don't know if he's like the lockdown, like Rivas. I'm not saying
00:34:09Rivas. I'm not saying Rivas. Well, a lot of teams just don't do that anymore, Ryan. They
00:34:12don't put a guy on your number one. They play sides. Yeah. It's very, the traveling
00:34:16thing has kind of gone away in the NFL from what I've seen. Yeah. It's nice to see Garrett
00:34:21though, have almost, he's averaging 75 yards a game, which is good to see. And like, I
00:34:25want to get that. Like, I think he needs to have an 85, 90 yard kind of game touchdown
00:34:30ride because new England's going to want to score points and they are scoring points.
00:34:34We'll get into that about how Drake may is going to take shots. But I think this is where
00:34:38again, if, if I'm the jets, I wonder even without 80 Mitchell, who can take the top off
00:34:43of a defense, can you get enough deep threats between your tight ends, Garrett, Omar and
00:34:48Tim Patrick? Because I think that's really what's going to help. Like it's going to open
00:34:53up things for your run game. It always does when you can test the defense deep. So they're
00:34:56not stacking the box against your run and you can make your offensive line a little
00:34:59bit easier on you. I, I, I don't, this is where a credit. And this is what you're talking
00:35:03about cause where they were able to generate a ton of offense with Garrett against Denzel
00:35:08Ward. Who's also one of the best corners in the NFL. They moved him away from his side of
00:35:12the field, a bunch and use a lot of crossing patterns, but you know, the Patriots and Mike
00:35:16Rabel, they're going to be trying to guard against exactly that. And they're going to
00:35:20bracket Garrett with a safety over the top. Most of the time as well.
00:35:25Yeah. And they're better than the Browns. So they're going to, they're better players
00:35:29and they're going to get more pressure, I think on Gino, but yeah, it's, they, I wrote
00:35:35something today about the targets, you know, he needs, they need to figure out again, these
00:35:39targets, right? He had 11 targets last week after having four in Chicago, which was a
00:35:43weird game with them where they only had 15 passes, but they, he had 11 against Detroit
00:35:49and then seven Green Bay and seven Tennessee and Green Bay was like nothing in the first
00:35:54half. And then they, they went to him later. And it seems even against, against Cleveland,
00:35:59there was this lull where they didn't go to him and Cleveland sort of took them away.
00:36:04They were doing bracket coverage at one point, but like the jets have to have better counterpunches.
00:36:08That's one thing I've noticed. I just haven't loved their answers when, when they're getting,
00:36:15you know, when they're getting stopped by these teams, they don't seem to have a good
00:36:18answer because taking nothing away from that win, right? They won the game, but they won
00:36:24the game on a fumbled punt. And because Isaiah Bond couldn't catch, right? If those two things
00:36:32have happened, they lose the game and really offensively be talking about the offense a lot
00:36:36this week, right? They'd lost that game, right? If that last touchdown was kind of a gift touchdown,
00:36:41uh, after the, the, the, the, the, the punt snap. So, you know, if you just imagine if they'd lost
00:36:48that game, 12 to 10, we'd be killing the offense all week this week. Cause if they got that punt
00:36:54off, did any of us think, Oh, the jets are going to drive down the field here and win the
00:36:57game?
00:36:58Not the way the offense is playing. This could be trouble. So they've got to come up with better
00:37:03answers and it's great first drive. And then Cleveland adjusted and, and you like watching
00:37:09from the press box, I saw like all of a sudden they're doing bracket coverage on Garrett and
00:37:14just taking him away. And they just, they really didn't have answers for that. So, um, I want to
00:37:21see from the offensive coaching staff, can they make better adjustments? I feel like Chicago too,
00:37:25they didn't really have a lot of adjustments there, but what they were doing to them.
00:37:28No. And that's what I'm saying again, like a lot of this has to fall on besides just,
00:37:32you're going to give Garrett a hopefully 10 plus targets again this week, but the other
00:37:36guys in this receiving room and tight end room, they have to be actual threats at the end,
00:37:41the passing game. They have to make plays. We're not, I'll just say this. There is a very
00:37:46small chance you're winning this game. If Garrett Wilson doesn't have a big day, that's all
00:37:50I'm saying. It's going to be tough for him to have a big day. That's what I'm saying.
00:37:53It's just, it's just saying to you guys, we're talking about this right now. Frank
00:37:57Wright just said that, uh, Gino checked into the game winning touchdown. Oh, wow. Ron
00:38:02Gino, Gino called that. That's big. And Gino might've called some of those quarterback
00:38:07sneaks too, which I liked. I mean, there was a 30. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I liked that. They
00:38:12were doing that for sure. Totally. Um, and, and I think again, like with Sadiq, if he can
00:38:18play and Mason Taylor, can we take advantage of the scene, like get up field a little bit,
00:38:25stop with these out routes and the short check downs. I need the, cause you can see Mason
00:38:29Taylor can be a chain mover. If he can be a third down threat for them, that's a big piece
00:38:34for this offense to be able to put drives together. But that's the problem. Frankie and
00:38:38cause like they get to the midfield and it feels like, all right, we just got a first down after
00:38:41a nice big play. Oh, here comes a holding penalty up. Here comes a false start. And then all of
00:38:46a
00:38:46sudden it's first and 15 and first to 20. And that's what the Patriots want you to
00:38:49play. That's what they want you to play. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. A hundred percent. I've
00:38:53had the penalties that have killed them on offense. Um, yeah, they just, they're just
00:38:58drive killers and, uh, they've got to, they got to figure out how to stop those. And
00:39:04you know, Aaron Glenn, when he came in, he said he was going to stop the penalties,
00:39:08right? Where he basically pointed the finger at Robert Sala and said it was, it's
00:39:11coaching and he's going to fix it. Well, I think they're, are they second or third in the
00:39:16league right now in penalties? Yeah. Second. Yeah. But I'll say this like, right. If
00:39:22you're Mike Vrabel though, I agree with you in the sense of you need those guys to
00:39:26be threats, but you have to prove it in game. Yeah. Like Mike Vrabel is not coming
00:39:33into this game worried about Mason Taylor. Now at halftime, if Mason Taylor is having
00:39:37some, you know, big plays in the first half or make it a ton of catches. Yeah. That
00:39:41might be an adjustment that'll open things up for Garrett, but Garrett Wilson is their
00:39:44focus and Braylon Allen. Like there's nobody else that that defense is losing
00:39:49sleep over. They're running whatever vanilla coverage they can run, but we're
00:39:52going to think more about that guy and the, and the guy, you know, behind center.
00:39:56So yeah. Um, let's flip it over to the jets defensive side cause. Wow. How much
00:40:02they blitzed, uh, Cleveland was insane. I know you've seen that the numbers there
00:40:06in terms of Aaron Glenn and how aggressive he was eight, uh, the jets had an 18.2%
00:40:11sack rate. That's the highest by any defense in a game this season. According
00:40:15to true media, 15 different people or pass rushers, including four defensive
00:40:19backs. They pressured to Sean Watson on 59.1% of his dropbacks. Uh, they love,
00:40:24like I said, showing some pressures, eight, seven guys in the line of scrimmage
00:40:28dropping four or five back, not, you know, giving some confusion, that
00:40:31offensive line, who's coming, who's not going. But I wonder, is that going to be
00:40:36something you think that will be a staple for Aaron Glenn, even moving forward
00:40:39now against this Patriots offense, where he's going to try to get after
00:40:42Drake may. I don't think he can do it as much as he did there. Deshaun
00:40:47Watson's a different quarterback, right? Uh, I think it's week to week.
00:40:51Like he's, he's kind of emphasized that Glenn saying, I, he doesn't want to be
00:40:54put in a box that he's going to change it week to week. I think, I think
00:40:58Deshaun Watson was right for that. And the Browns, they felt were, you know,
00:41:03and then the Browns lose, um, their right tackle early in the game, who was not
00:41:08very good to begin with. And they have DeJuan Jones in there. So they were able
00:41:12to attack. I, I'm not sure you do that against Drake May. I don't know what
00:41:16Drake May's numbers are. I haven't looked against the blitz, how he's done, but I
00:41:19think he's, he's probably a tougher quarterback to blitz than, uh, Deshaun
00:41:24Watson is. Yeah. I mean, uh, very good against the blitz, by the way, he ranks
00:41:28near the top of the league and passing yards against the blitz. And I'll say this
00:41:32about the Patriots and how they're going to try to attack you. It's downfield.
00:41:34There's no, there's no secret about that. Yeah. Uh, the Patriots on average
00:41:39yards per attempt, they're averaging over eight yards per attempt. It's fifth in
00:41:42the NFL, uh, in terms of, uh, yards per completion, they are also six in the NFL
00:41:48with 12 over 12 yards per completion. That's crazy. That's like a first down
00:41:53every time they complete the ball, they are trying to that that's sixth in the
00:41:57NFL, by the way. I know how, well, that's, that's the state of the NFL, but like,
00:42:00because you could see it even with it with or without AJ Brown, they're putting
00:42:04up those type of numbers and downfield threat for you, this, and I don't know
00:42:09how you feel about this, but I know I feel about this. This feels like a actual
00:42:13real test for this secondary and how they're going to cover the deep ball.
00:42:19Yeah, I agree with you. And I feel like the secondary has played so well and
00:42:23it's been, been one of the pleasant surprises for the jets. You feel like
00:42:28there's a week coming though, where they're going to, you know, they're going to
00:42:30Detroit, Detroit tested them, but this is another one where, how, how do they fare
00:42:36against this, this new England attack? And those numbers are crazy of throwing
00:42:39down the field. Um, I feel like teams haven't tested them completely with deep
00:42:45shots. Uh, so do they, do they, you know, Detroit hit a couple on them. Um, but I
00:42:52think, I would think new England's going to try to do that more and how do the jets
00:42:55hold up. Can, can AZ Thomas continue to have the season he's having this game
00:42:59Belton continue to have the season he's having, you know, Brandon Stevens got hit
00:43:02with the double move for the touchdown on Sunday. Do they test him? Yeah, this is,
00:43:07this will look, this will tell us something about the secondary, right?
00:43:09I'll say this too. This'll yeah, it will tell us a lot about the secondary, not
00:43:14only with our, our main guys, but some of our, our, our, our secondary guys that we
00:43:18think about, um, because the Patriots have a slew of receivers, right? They have
00:43:23Romeo Dobbs, no one's that great, but they have a bunch of pretty good ones.
00:43:26Romeo Dobbs, Matt Collins, the Mario Douglas, very underrated player. Yup. Kyle
00:43:31Williams. Kyle Williams. Chisholm. I really like, like that kid. Yes. Looks like a
00:43:35third down threat. Like he looks, I'm not saying he's Wes Walker. I'm not saying
00:43:38he's like, you know, any one of those Raymond Dola, but what he does remind me
00:43:42is those old school, get him the ball on third down because he's a mismatch in the
00:43:45slot. Yes. And then you have Hunter Henry who's, who's been very successful
00:43:49against the jets, um, over the years. So yeah, they have a bunch of guys
00:43:53guys. This is going to test someone like D'Angelo Ponds or Jarvis Brownlee. I
00:43:57mean, these, these, these slot corners. Here's, here's a question for
00:44:00Kaz. I was going to say, I don't know. Over under, before we get to over
00:44:04under this cause, how many snaps does D'Angelo Bonds play this week? Over
00:44:08under five and a half. Yeah. So it's been strange guys, right? Like, and it's, and
00:44:13the Brownlee evaluation is hard too. He did a great job blitzing last week. He was
00:44:18the key blitzer. But if I say again, if Isaiah Bond can catch, we're having a conversation
00:44:23about Jarvis Brownlee and coverage. Yes. So yeah. Do they, you know, do they go with
00:44:29more Ponds? I'm not sure. I'm, I, that, that has kind of baffled me their usage of
00:44:34him. I'll say this about Ponds real quick cause when I was looking at, I don't know
00:44:38if it was, it was you that posted the video or somebody did, but I remember
00:44:42looking at a video of D'Angelo Ponds off to the side and he's running some drills. I mean,
00:44:46this is like two or three weeks ago. He didn't look like he was moving very gingerly. And
00:44:52I was surprised that he was going to be able to play on Sunday. I wonder if he must be
00:44:56still
00:44:56hurt, right? Like he's gotta be, no? I mean, what's.
00:45:00Hey, why do you have him out there? Right. You know, like he's playing special teams. Like
00:45:03I don't think you'd be risking it if he's, if he's still hurt.
00:45:07I agree. I just, it's weird because I remember his, you know, him at Indiana is flying all
00:45:12over the place. It wouldn't shock me if he's playing a lot this week, just because
00:45:16the Patriots want to take those shots downfield. And if there's someone I want to actually
00:45:20turn Drake May over, it's going to be D'Angelo Ponds who has to be covering one of these guys.
00:45:24Put him against Pop Douglas, put him against Kyle Williams.
00:45:27But right, if he can't move, he shouldn't play.
00:45:29Yeah, but Kaz is saying he's not hurt. Like that, that's where I, he's not hurt.
00:45:33Yeah. He played against Chicago. He made the penalty, right? Too that probably hurt him with
00:45:38the coaches. Yeah. So that was, that was not a good, that was not a good technique penalty.
00:45:42Yeah. He got the interception, but that was not good. Um, that's because he yanked the guy.
00:45:49He was the lowest, I think he was the lowest grade. Yeah. He was the lowest graded guy that
00:45:54week. Barely played. Barely played. No, no, the week before. And then, yeah, he barely played last
00:45:58week. So, uh, look, the Patriots offensive line is banged up with Will Campbell with the knee injury,
00:46:02like you talked about. Uh, Morgan Moses was limited with a foot injury as well. Cause
00:46:07can the jets get enough pass rush on Drake may though, because he has this capability as well.
00:46:12And if the jets, they don't honor their pass rush lanes, he can burn you with his legs.
00:46:17Is that a matchup that you're really focused on as well as how the jets get after Drake may?
00:46:21Yeah. I mean, look guys, Drake may has been one of the most fascinating guys in the NFL to me,
00:46:26right? He, I picked him in our preview section to win MVP and I was getting destroyed by my friends
00:46:32for two weeks of like, you know, nice pitch, but he seems to have figured things out in the last
00:46:37couple of weeks. And like, he's a very talented guy that had a rough start to the season. So has
00:46:42he, is he on track now? I mean, this feels like a very old Patriots like season, right? Where the
00:46:49Patriots with Tom Brady would always start out slow and people would be writing them off. And then
00:46:53they don't, the next thing you look, they won 10 games in a row or something. So yeah, I don't
00:46:58think
00:46:58they're going to have eight sacks this week, right? I'll tell you that. But, um, you know,
00:47:02I think they're a confident bunch right now, the jets and they should, this is a good one for Aaron
00:47:07Glenn to, you know, design some pressures here. Can he, can he get to him? Can he, can he figure
00:47:11it
00:47:11out? But, uh, you know, Drake may is one of the more fascinating guys in the NFL right now to
00:47:17me.
00:47:18Yeah. The thing with Drake may too, and this has been kind of the shtick with him that everyone
00:47:22talks about is he plays really well against bad teams. He doesn't play that well against good teams,
00:47:27specifically defenses. And that's when the story of him this year, Seattle. He played well against
00:47:31Buffalo though, right? Two weeks ago. Uh, he did. Yeah. But there's secondary cause they give up a
00:47:36crap load of yards back there. Yeah. They're a good team. Yeah. They are a good team. Yeah. Yeah.
00:47:40Yeah. Totally. Yeah. I'm, I'm looking at it more like on a defensive front. I think against good
00:47:46secondaries, he struggles a bit to go with the big yards to get that 300 yard game. And with the
00:47:51bad
00:47:51secondaries, he can torch them. I think we'll figure out what kind of secondary we have this week.
00:47:55Yeah. Exactly. Yeah. This is it. Yeah. Yeah. So I mean, this is Aaron Glenn's real test as a,
00:48:00as a coordinator. Uh, how well can he scheme up his defense? Can you get some SIM pressures on
00:48:05Drake may sack him, bring him down. Don't have roughing the passer penalties. I still have
00:48:10horrors from that game a couple of years ago. What was it? Um, JFM, JFM with the, which was not
00:48:15a
00:48:15roughing the passer. It was a terrible penalty call, but like, I still have hard dreams about that.
00:48:19Like who got the pick on that play? Uh, Michael Carter. Michael Carter. Yeah. What happened to
00:48:24him? I don't know. I miss him though. I miss him. Yeah. You don't miss him. No. Um, cause Foxborough
00:48:35is a house of horrors for the jets. I read your column yesterday. Uh, can you just talk about how
00:48:41not kind it's been for the jets up in Foxborough? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, look one win guys since the
00:48:47big
00:48:47win, right. Since the playoff win in 2000, January, they won there once. And the game
00:48:53they won was the Belichick finale game where it was snowing and breeze ran for all those
00:48:58yards. And Bailey Zappi was their quarterback. Uh, and then even, you know, going before that,
00:49:03they won there in 2008, the Favre overtime game. They won there in 2006 with Chad when they
00:49:10tore up the turf. I think there was one more win before that, like in 2002. Uh, but like
00:49:16of the Brady era, like it's, it's been rough there, man. You can, you don't need, you
00:49:20don't need two hands to count all the wins in Foxborough. And overall rise to this, the
00:49:27AFC East, right. We haven't talked about it. Is their first division game last 10 years,
00:49:33they're 13 and 47 in, in the, in the AFC East. Okay. So let's let that number sink
00:49:41again, 13 and 47 years, 13 wins in the division, right? Worse than I thought. If you go on the
00:49:49road in the last 10 years, four and 26, damn, they have not won a game in Miami. They won
00:49:57the one game. I, we just mentioned in Foxborough and then they won three in Buffalo. One was
00:50:03and they haven't won there since 2019. Uh, the end of the last game of 2019 season, when
00:50:08Josh Allen came out, started and left the game after one play and Matt Barkley came
00:50:12in, the jets won that game. They won a game in Donald's rookie year when he ran all over
00:50:16the field and threw to Robbie Anderson. And then they won in 2016 on Thursday night football
00:50:21in week two, but that's, that's what you're talking about. So road wins. Yeah. So four
00:50:27road wins in 10 years. And if you go with the last six seasons is one, one win on the
00:50:34road
00:50:34in the division. People wonder why we're so negative about this team. They don't win.
00:50:39They just don't, they don't win games. They're not supposed to win. They don't win games. Period.
00:50:46Like I just, it's like, it was, it was, I don't know. One road. I hate how people are
00:50:52like, you guys are so negative. They don't give me anything positive to be positive about
00:50:55this team. If you want to, if you want to bring me out to the positivity world, go win
00:51:00this weekend, go win this game. That's it's winnable, but I'm not saying they're going
00:51:05to win. It's a winnable game. Like the Patriots are not the Tom Brady era Patriots. Like this
00:51:10is not the team that scared me. Like causes saying all those, all those years where you're
00:51:15going up to bill Belichick and Tom Brady, there's no chance they're winning this football
00:51:18game. It's different now. Like I understand they went to the super bowl. I think their
00:51:22schedule was insanely easy. And I think they had an easy road to the, to the super bowl
00:51:26last year. I wouldn't poopoo it like that. I do it. Take a look at who they beat last
00:51:30year. They beat a bunch of backup quarterbacks. They did, but that's the NFL. I understand
00:51:35not to derail where you're going. Sorry. The point is this is not the bill Belichick, Tom
00:51:40Brady. This is not your father's Patriots. This is not my Patriots. Like this is a different
00:51:46team cause. So the fact that it is a house of horrors, I feel like this has to be written
00:51:51all over. Like I understand they're doing this whole one and all mentality. This has to be
00:51:56a win for the jets. Like they have to have the mentality. We're coming in here. We're pulling
00:52:00off the upset. Don't you agree with that?
00:52:03I think they have that mentality, Ryan. It's nice to have that mentality of the week. When
00:52:08Sunday comes, it doesn't always work out that way. Right? Like, yeah, I think the jets
00:52:12think they can win. Um, you know, they're going and thinking that. Yeah. And it's not,
00:52:16this isn't Tom Brady versus Luke Falk, right? Like, like this is a more even matchup. Still
00:52:23think it's a tough matchup. I know, you know, we'll probably do our predictions
00:52:26soon, but, um, yeah. And the, the one to know thing makes me want to put my head
00:52:32through a wall. It's very much coach speak. Um, all right, fellas, I'm going to do trivia.
00:52:38And then I got a little bit of a one-liners here for you. Cause can you tell me which
00:52:43jets
00:52:44player has the most receiving yards in a single game versus the Patriots all time?
00:52:53Oh, man. None come to mind recent years. That's for sure. It's definitely not recent.
00:52:59I'll go, uh, Wesley Walker.
00:53:04Ooh, Wesley Walker was third with 168 receiving yards. This receiver had 194 receiving yards
00:53:11in a single game. Can you take a guess? It's Keyshawn Johnson. It's Keyshawn Johnson.
00:53:18September 12th. Uh, he had eight catches. I remember that for 194 yards and a touchdown in
00:53:23that game in 1999. All right, guys, let's do the quarter. Wait, wait, wait. I don't
00:53:28know. Wait, wait, wait. Who was the, uh, who that wasn't in Foxborough? Was it? Who was
00:53:35the quarterback? It was versus Bledsoe. Uh, give me one sec. It was in, I'm just trying
00:53:41to remember why I remember that game. There's something weird about that. Jets lost that game
00:53:4430 to 20. That's right. Okay. When was the date? Right. September is week one. It was
00:53:51September. That's when Vinny blew out his Achilles. Yes. September 12th, 1999. Wait,
00:53:57so the, wait, the backup came in. Yes. Yeah, that's right. So it was the, yeah. Okay. Got
00:54:03it. That's why. Yeah. Okay. Got it. Sorry. My brain's like Rick Meyer. And I think Tupa
00:54:08played Tupa. Yep. Tupa had two touchdowns in that game. Took Keyshawn. Yeah. One was a Tiki.
00:54:13That's crazy, dude. Yeah. All right, guys, I got one sentence for you and just give me a
00:54:19quick answer on this. Kaz, I'll start with you. Does David Bailey get to Drake May?
00:54:26Yes. Frankie? Absolutely. All right. What scares you the most about New England if
00:54:32you're, if you're looking at this matchup, Kaz?
00:54:37Uh, hmm. I just, I think it's the overall just mystique that the Patriots have against
00:54:47the Jets. Like, I, I don't know. I, I still think that's a factor, guys. I still think
00:54:53that for whatever reason, the Jets get in their heads when they play the Patriots.
00:54:58Uh, Josh McDaniel. Okay. I, I, uh, he's a, he's a, he's a weird, scary guy. He's, he's,
00:55:06he's, he's one of those kind of OCs. He's either masterminding the grand plan or nothing,
00:55:12but against us, it always happens to be a grand plan. Kaz, what's the Jets X factor this weekend?
00:55:20Uh, Omar Cooper Jr. Right? Can he come in? Can he have a, can he actually have an impact right
00:55:26away?
00:55:27Cause I think he could change the offense a little bit. Like we talked about, I think
00:55:31Gino's holding the ball is partly because he doesn't have anywhere to throw the ball
00:55:35because they just haven't had enough weapons out there. And so I think Omar Cooper Jr. Can he come in?
00:55:40Can he be an outlet for Gino? Maybe break one off with a yard after catch. I'll make him the
00:55:45X factor.
00:55:46Frankie. Uh, the best blocking wide receiver in NFL history, Tim Patrick.
00:55:53I'm joking. Um, the X factor is going to have to be Mason Taylor. All right. I think Mason Taylor's
00:55:58got to eat or get a ton of looks or receptions in that first half. Just so new England comes
00:56:03into
00:56:04the second half and says, we got to guard this guy. Get, get, get that safety plan more in the
00:56:08middle of the field versus on the outside over Garrett. All right, fellas. It's time for over
00:56:13unders. Uh, last week, uh, Brian, can you pull this one up for me last week? Look at this over
00:56:20unders last week cause you went one in three. I went three in one. Frankie went one in three
00:56:25on the season. Here you go. Cause you're sick. You're six and 13, buddy. It's not good for you.
00:56:32Uh, I'm 11 and eight and Frankie's five and 10. Um, we got, we got to get better results
00:56:38here. We got to get better. You're holding it down, right? I'm trying. You're holding
00:56:42it down. Let's start off with Gino Smith, 225 and a half pass yards cause.
00:56:49225 and a half. Yeah. That's a big number. That's high, isn't it? Yeah. That's what
00:56:53DraftKings has him at right now. He's averaging 217 a game, by the way.
00:56:59I'll go under under, uh, Frankie. Give me, give me an over under on Gino due to
00:57:05causes record. Not that mine's any better. I am going to go over. I think I kind of
00:57:12that since it's such a high number and he's averaging 224 and a half, uh, passing
00:57:16yards per game. I kind of think that, that Gino might go over just because they
00:57:20might be trying to like air it out as much as possible. Yeah. Uh, let's go to Garrett
00:57:25Wilson, 74 and a half receiving yards cause. Uh, over. I will go over as
00:57:35well. Frankie. I'm going to go over also. David Bailey. They got him at half a sack
00:57:41cause over, under over. I'm going to go under. I don't think he's going to get, I
00:57:47think they're going to make sure that he does not get a sack this game. I think
00:57:50he's going to get one of those like negative one yard quarterback ran out of
00:57:53bound sacks. I'm going to go over. There you go. Over. All right, guys. And then
00:57:57give me your anytime touchdown score cause it could be Jets or Patriots. Do
00:58:03Frankie first. Let me think. All right, Frankie, give me an anytime touchdown
00:58:05score. I'm going to double down on the one I had last week. Cause I think we're
00:58:09doing Gino Smith rushing touchdown. He's, he's going to do it, man. They're
00:58:12good. Why would they, why would they do that with braille and out? Cause he's
00:58:15going to look to throw to Garrett. He's going to be bracketed. He's going to
00:58:18look somewhere else. No one else is going to be open. He's just going to run
00:58:20it. You just talked about how bad of his capability he has. I did, but I
00:58:24think he'll, he'll, he'll get in his bag a little bit. I'm going to tell you
00:58:27why. Cause Gino's good against the cause. I'm going to give you a buffer
00:58:29here. I'm going to go, uh, for me, I'll pick Drake may as anytime
00:58:33touchdown score. The jets do not usually contain these quarterbacks. Well, when
00:58:37they're scrambling may has burnt them before. I think he'll score a touchdown
00:58:40this week. I'll go Ramondre Stevenson. I like that pick as well. Um, okay,
00:58:46fellas. Now let's do some predictions. Now you can bring this one up, Brian.
00:58:50Uh, last week cause he could technically get a second win for this
00:58:54one. He picked a clean Bailey sack. Yes, he did. So that's, that's
00:58:59pretty funny though. Um, so he's three and two. I'm three and two. Uh,
00:59:03we were all in the jets last week. Frankie was three and one. Cause
00:59:05he was absent from week one. Let's do some predictions. I'll start
00:59:10with you. I almost got the score. Yeah, you did. You almost 17, 14, almost
00:59:14cause wanted to copy that score. I know he did. He, he wanted to pick
00:59:17cause. And you know what you said last week too, we're talking
00:59:19about, remember you said this could be a game with a weird score,
00:59:23like a 16, 12. You said something like that. That's exactly what
00:59:28happened. It was. Go ahead, Frankie. Give me your prediction. All right.
00:59:33Well, do you guys remember week one last year in the NFL season? What
00:59:37happened? The Patriots, uh, lost to the Raiders. The Raiders beat the
00:59:40Patriots. And then the year before that, Gino played the Patriots also at
00:59:46Foxborough with C with Seattle. And, uh, he won that game too. Wow. He
00:59:51actually had 327 yards last year. He actually had 362 yards. So Gino
00:59:57Foxborough doesn't rattle him. It's not a, it's not a house of
00:59:59horrors for Gino guys. He likes playing there. I think. Um, so
01:00:03Gino's two and O in his last two games of Foxborough. What about
01:00:06before that? I remember him in a jets uniform. I was going to say, I
01:00:11don't want to go back that far. You know, I kind of did the cutoff
01:00:13at 2015. Um, no guys, listen, this jets team is, is trying their best. I
01:00:22think Glenn's got the guys playing hard. I think that, uh, and I'm not
01:00:25going to go on the soliloquy as long as I did last week. Um, I think the
01:00:29team's playing hard. I just, I don't think the strategy is going to be
01:00:32there. And I don't think we have enough horses to go, uh, to compete when it
01:00:38comes to scoring enough points. My issue with this team is not the defense. It's
01:00:43what this team is the offense and being creative enough to put up enough
01:00:46points. I don't think we have enough weapons, a and B, even if we do have
01:00:51all of our weapons or we do have the weapons, I don't know if the scheme
01:00:53the, uh, via Frank Reich is there to score with this team. That's been
01:00:58rolling the last couple of weeks. Um, I have new England taking care of
01:01:02business. I have this being a bit of an ugly one here. Uh, I have the
01:01:07Patriots 31 Jets 17. That was the score. Oh my God. He did it again.
01:01:13He did it again. No way. You thought that's what I'm not kidding you. That
01:01:17was the score. I was, are you joking? Yeah. I swear. That was going to be my
01:01:20score. I can't do that. We can't do that. That was your score again. What the hell
01:01:24is going on? Well, what are we sharing? I go first next week.
01:01:28Give me, so you're taking the Patriots. I'm assuming I just don't see how the
01:01:32Jets win this one. I just, I can't come up with a formula for them to win this
01:01:36game. Patriots are rolling. They look like one of the best teams in the NFL
01:01:39again. Um, you know, so I, I just, I, a win is a win is a win. Jets beat the
01:01:47Browns, but I think if you really dig into that, there was some issues there
01:01:51offensively that you'd have to be worried about going forward. So Frank, he took
01:01:55my damn score. So what am I doing? You know what? I'll do you a favor this
01:01:58week. I'll change mine. I'll do 31. No, no, you, you stick with it. I'll stick with
01:02:02it. I'll stick with it. I'll go. I will go. Uh,
01:02:073420. How about that? That's a good one. Uh, I'll be quick on this. Um, I
01:02:14really don't do it. No, no, no. I've really wanted the Jets to, to pull off an
01:02:18upset this week. Uh, it would be an upset of all upsets. In my opinion,
01:02:22there's seven and a half point dogs. The fact that you're, uh, almost you're
01:02:25over a touchdown underdog to a team in new England, a place that you have
01:02:29historically not done well at all. There is too much, uh, elements wise of, I
01:02:35think the Patriots just match up so much better against the Jets
01:02:37here. Uh, and I think they're going to do the two things that we talked
01:02:40about in this episode. They're going to take away Garrett Wilson and they're
01:02:43going to take away David Bailey, probably your two best players right
01:02:45now and making sure that they don't have a big impact that you want them
01:02:48to have in this game. Because if those guys do have big games, I think there
01:02:51actually is an avenue for the Jets to pull off the upset here. Yeah. And I
01:02:54just don't like the way Juno Smith playing football right now. I know that I
01:02:57have gotten a lot of critique about that online, but watch the tape, watch the
01:03:00film. He holds onto the ball too long. He doesn't have outlets to get the
01:03:03receivers too. I understand he's playing in sloppy conditions, both those
01:03:06games at home. But as we've seen, I think when he is under pressure, he
01:03:11crumbles and I don't think he can get the ball out to the guys that you
01:03:13wanted to in time. I'm hoping I'm wrong. I hope I am wrong, but I think the
01:03:18Patriots are going to blow the Jets out. I think this is going to be an ugly
01:03:20one Patriots 38 jets 10. It's going to be wildly. It's going to be ugly, which
01:03:25that's as, that's as much of a blowout as you could possibly get. I think we're
01:03:29looking at another Monday morning where I'm telling cause I don't have much
01:03:33faith in this coach and he's got to prove me wrong. So yeah.
01:03:37You had a good week, Aaron. When you had a good week, it was ugly, but you had a
01:03:42good week. Cause let me ask you a question. I was speaking, I was speaking to Ryan
01:03:47about this. I didn't want to ask you, but you know what? You're here now. I'm
01:03:49going to ask you. I, why are these press conferences? Why do they seem like
01:03:54they're so short that they're not any real good questions being asked? Like not
01:03:59by you guys. There's not enough. Like there's not enough variety. It's like, we
01:04:03want to hear more. Like we, can you guys even, I only hear you guys asking a
01:04:06question or two. I was even talking to Antoine a little bit about it. Like
01:04:10what's going on. Is that, is that typical? Like, is that like how it's always been?
01:04:15Like, yeah, no, that's not how it's always been. Yeah. But the PR, you'll hear the PR
01:04:20staff say a couple more and like, um, you know, they typically do it seven
01:04:26minutes, eight minutes in, uh, Monday was five minutes. I think like five
01:04:30minutes. Yeah. Mondays was really short. Like that's the one that's tough. The
01:04:35Monday one, I'd like to be longer. Uh, but we don't control it. Uh, and it's
01:04:39press conferences are tough because you, you're, you're working on, you have a
01:04:44story idea. You need to ask a question for that story idea. So you don't always get
01:04:48to every single thing. Like we talked about last week, like last Friday, I
01:04:51was devoted to minutiae Friday where I asked about nation. Right. I didn't
01:04:56end up not asking about Isaiah Davis because right right answer to the day
01:04:59before, but I asked, we asked about, we pressed them about Mitchell a little
01:05:02bit last Friday that what was going on. So the Fridays are a little bit easier
01:05:06to do that, but yeah, it's, it's, I wish we could get longer. I mean, I feel
01:05:10like they used to be like 15 minutes and we're kind of down to like eight, nine, he
01:05:15did 12 minutes yesterday, which was a longer one, but yeah, no, we, we would
01:05:20like to have more time with the head coach. Yeah. I'm just curious because
01:05:25sometimes I watch these, right. And I'm trying to just get an understanding as
01:05:29to like what the vibe check is, what the coach is thinking about the team, how
01:05:33he's looking, is he confident in what they're doing? And like, I, you don't
01:05:38get much, you know, and then it gets derailed with like some softball
01:05:41questions sometimes, whatever. I just wanted to ask cause it was just, yeah.
01:05:46Guys. Yeah. I mean, people have stories to give you that they're working on and
01:05:49there's also Jess and please that ask questions, right? Like Eric Allen is in
01:05:53there. So is that normal? And it's, I don't know, Frankie, I'm not with other
01:05:59teams and it's, but you know, uh, so yeah, the Jets website asked some questions. So
01:06:04some of those you might think are softballs might be coming from them.
01:06:07Yeah. Okay. Sometimes they tend to be positive, obviously questions. Um, but
01:06:12yeah. And he, you know, Glenn will give us his opening statement that comes
01:06:16sometimes chew up the first two minutes of those eight minutes. Uh, you know,
01:06:20especially Wednesday when they go over like, Oh, this is by the Patriots, what
01:06:23he likes or whatever. So yeah, it's, uh, I think I said this before on the show, I
01:06:29miss when the coach did the radio show because that's a better forum for drilling
01:06:35down into a topic and asking follow-up questions. Press conferences staying
01:06:38for asking follow-up questions. Yeah, no doubt. No doubt. Cause we're looking
01:06:43forward to your coverage, uh, throughout the weekend and up in Foxboro, and then
01:06:46we'll catch up with you next week. Thank you, man. Appreciate it. All right, guys.
