00:07for 21 games the jets couldn't buy interception sunday in chicago they finally got one and then
00:13they forced another turnover somehow by the end of the afternoon of their week four matchup those
00:18takeaways felt like a footnote because after further review the jets finally broke the
00:23interception drought but they didn't break the cycle here it is maker fitzpatrick steps in front
00:29of tyson badgin and gives the jets something they hadn't had all season and interception the drought's
00:34over new york took over in bears territory and this is a moment that many jets fans had been waiting
00:40for except it ended up being disappointing as the jets didn't put seven on the board instead they
00:46settled for three later in the game jamie and sherwood knocked the ball loose from deandre swift
00:50brandon stevens recovers at chicago 28 another takeaway another short field situation but that
00:56led to another field goal two takeaways for gang green six points and that's where this game starts
01:02to tell you something bigger about the jets because the turnovers weren't the answer at all in week four
01:07they just simply exposed the next problem look at the numbers here and you don't be embarrassed if
01:12you have to read it more than once it's a lot it's quite staggering but the bears ran 89 offensive
01:17plays
01:17to the jets 32 need more numbers to tell you how much the bears dominated in week four well chicago
01:24had
01:24the football for 42 minutes and 45 seconds the jets 17 minutes and 15 seconds new york finished with only
01:32157 total yards chicago mass 492 you don't get a disparity like that because one side of the ball
01:40had a bad day you get it when the problems start feeding each other the offense can't stay on the
01:46field so the defense goes right back out there the defense can't consistently get off the field so the
01:51offense waits and waits and waits for another possession then when one side finally makes a
01:56play the other side can't cash in that's not complimentary football in fact the only thing
02:01that is complimentary here is frustration and if you really want to sum up the afternoon just look
02:07at the interceptions that didn't count the jets actually had three more picks erased by penalties
02:11to vandre sweat brandon stevens and d'angelo pons each had one wiped out three plays that could
02:18have ended chicago possessions three flags that kept the bears on the field in week four the jets
02:23were wildly undisciplined as they finished with 12 penalties for 76 yards think about how perfectly
02:30those numbers fits this game the jets they finally start making the plays they've been waiting for
02:35and then they find a way to erase them now to be clear none of this lets the defense off
02:41the hook
02:41chicago finished with 34 first downs the bears ran for 232 yards kyle monongai alone had 146 rushing
02:49yards and two touchdowns yes the jets defense was on the field forever but sometimes it isn't even
02:55that deep the way you get off the field is by getting yourself off the field and aaron glenn didn't
03:01really dance around this after the game he called it quote not playing complimentary football at its best
03:06he also pointed to the penalties that negated turnovers and extended drive and that's the part
03:12that should concern the jets more than any interception streak because you can fix one number
03:17you can finally get the pick and end the drought you can force the fumble and recover it but none
03:23of it
03:23matters much if the rest of your football team doesn't help that play becoming something in week four
03:29the defense finally created takeaways the offense turned them into field goals the offense couldn't
03:34sustained possessions and the defense couldn't end enough of chicago's and when the jets did make
03:39plays to get off the field flags brought them right back that right there is the cycle so yes jets
03:46fans
03:47i'm not saying you shouldn't be happy about the interception sure bring out the green and white pom-poms
03:51if you want to i get it it took long enough but after a 23 to 12 loss to chicago
03:55that can't be the story
03:57because the jets spent more than a year waiting to end one drought sunday showed they have a much bigger
04:03one to worry about they have to start turning good plays into good possessions good possessions
04:08into points and on one side of the ball success into help for the other the jets they finally broke
04:14the interception drought now they've got to break the cycle
