00:13Hello and welcome to Gangs All Here. My name is Ryan Sampson. That's our Jets beat writer Brian Costello. Today
00:17is Monday, October 26th. The New York Jets fell to 2-5 to start the season after losing to the
00:22winless Dolphins at home at MetLife Stadium. And there is a lot to discuss after yesterday's game. But before we
00:28get to any of it, as always,
00:30Kaz, how are you doing today, buddy? I'm good, Ryan. Good to be home. Yeah, yeah. Good to be home.
00:36It was a beautiful day yesterday. Beautiful fall Sunday. Unfortunately, the Jets made it an ugly Sunday for a lot
00:43of Jets fans. And look, Kaz, the noise has never been higher or louder, I should say, on Aaron Glenn.
00:52I'm curious, now looking back at this 12, 14, 15 hours removed from the game, what are your thoughts on
01:02what happened yesterday and what went down?
01:05Yeah, inexcusable was my first thought, Ryan. I really haven't moved off of that. I mean, we talked about it
01:11all week. This was, and I think listeners to our show, viewers of our show know I'm not a big
01:17must-win guy.
01:18And I don't get caught up in that too much, but this was a must-win. Like, the Jets have
01:23not proven to us yet that they can punch up and beat teams that are in the, you know, upper
01:29tier of the NFL.
01:31So, we talked about it all along. They had to beat the teams that were in their weight class and
01:35teams that were maybe below them in the standings or in the NFL hierarchy. And the Dolphins were one of
01:41those teams.
01:43And this wasn't a, like, dramatic fourth quarter comeback win by the Dolphins. It was a beatdown in the first
01:53half, and then the Dolphins found a way to win the fourth quarter, right?
01:57I thought the Jets came back in the second half, did some things a lot better. But overall, the Dolphins
02:04beat them for three quarters of the game, I'd say.
02:08And just some inexcusable things. I know we're going to hit on all of them, Ryan, but we know what
02:13they are. End of the first half was a mystery.
02:17The not scoring from the one-yard line was brutal. Giving up a 60-yard touchdown, not being able to
02:23get off the field at the end of the game.
02:24Like, it's just, it's definitely a bad football team yesterday. And I haven't felt like that other than the Bears
02:33game and this one this season.
02:35Yeah, it felt very reminiscent of last year, right, Kaz, in terms of this team coming onto the field.
02:40And you felt like the other sideline has an advantage right now in the coaching advantage.
02:46And the Dolphins came out ready and prepared to play that game off a bye week, and it felt like
02:52the Jets just were punched in the mouth.
02:54And they go, oh, okay. And the Dolphins felt like the more desperate team for a win yesterday, if anything,
02:59as well.
03:00Look, the record speaks for itself in Aaron Glenn. Five wins out of his first 24 games.
03:050-8 in the division now, facing a division opponents.
03:09And when you look at that, Kaz, the record keeps getting worse and worse as we're going through here.
03:16They keep losing.
03:17Right, they keep losing.
03:18But like, so when you put it in a historical context, it's all-time bad.
03:23So I ask you, with the evidence that's piling up against Aaron Glenn, and the way that his team has
03:30played,
03:30and the way that they have prepared, or been unprepared in these games,
03:35is it starting to look like the Jets have gotten their answer, and we don't have an actual head coach
03:41right now?
03:44I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say don't have an actual head coach.
03:48I'm going to say the, you know, we've said all along,
03:532026 was going to be a referendum on Aaron Glenn.
03:55Should he be back in 2027?
03:57Right now, there's no way he should be back in 2027.
03:59I don't think he, I don't know how you make that case off of these first seven games.
04:04There's 10 games left.
04:06I'm going to maintain what I've said since the offseason.
04:09I think he deserves a whole season to see what he can do.
04:13I am skeptical that they are going to turn this around, Ryan,
04:16and make us change our minds the next 10 games, but there's 10 games to do it.
04:20And let them go out there and try and see what they can do.
04:25But yeah, this is, you know, this is Kotite level right now is what you're looking at.
04:31I think Kotite won four games in his two years, and Aaron has five.
04:35I, you know, I don't want to hear about Gase.
04:37He won seven games in his first season.
04:39I don't want to hear about Salah.
04:40He won seven games in the second season, and they were good in the middle of the year.
04:45Um, like this, this is, yeah, this is Kotite level right now.
04:50So, uh, change feels inevitable this morning, Ryan, but it's always, you know,
04:57I prisoner of the moment.
04:59Um, they, there's still games on the schedule that they can win.
05:02And I just find it hard to believe that they're going to convince us that, that,
05:06you know, Aaron Glenn is the guy in 2027.
05:09Well, maybe they, they pull some shock shocker off.
05:11Well, I'll say this.
05:12I mean, you say can win.
05:13I mean, if you look at their schedule, they can't win any of these games.
05:18If we're being honest with how this team is played, because if you can't, if you can't,
05:22if you can't be, I promise you, they're not going to be two and 15.
05:27I don't think they're going to be two and 15, but it'll be close to it again.
05:29And if they keep playing like that, you lost to a winless team that never held a lead
05:33in an entire game this season.
05:36And you lost to a team that was not nearly as talented as you cause that's the biggest
05:41indictment I have is on Aaron Glenn as the head coach.
05:43He did not.
05:45It's not like he lost to a, a bears team that was better or a Packers team that was better.
05:50He lost to the dolphins.
05:53Oh, and five.
05:54It's, it's, it's unexplainable.
05:57It's, it's inexcusable.
05:58Like you said, it's for jets fans right now, we have gotten our answer cause he is
06:04not the, not the head coach of the future and they need to move on from him.
06:07And I know they're not going to do it in the middle of the season, but I think everything
06:11that he says now moving forward, it just falls on deaf ears because all the jets fans are
06:16going to point to now is how quickly can we get to 2027 and get to the off season to
06:21find
06:21the next head coach.
06:22But then there's also the scary part cause of how are they going to find this next head
06:26coach because we've seen this owner and, and the search committees and the executives
06:31and the opinions they've gotten.
06:33I don't know, man.
06:34Like this feels like a very tumultuous time for this jets franchise right now after coming
06:38off that Sunday loss.
06:41Yeah, I get it.
06:43I get it.
06:43It was horrible, horrible loss, but you know, is it impossible Ryan that they could beat the
06:48bills at home in a few weeks?
06:51Yeah.
06:53Okay.
06:54I don't think it's impossible.
06:56Like, look, they, this, this game was a complete thud.
06:58The bears game was a complete thud.
07:00Other than that, I haven't felt like they're complete thuds.
07:03I I've seen bad jets teams beat the bills at home before.
07:08Right.
07:08I haven't seen many went up there in a long time, but, um, could they do that?
07:13Could they beat the Broncos at home?
07:14Could they beat the, like, there are games where they could pull off a shocker and maybe
07:17make you feel differently terms of like the coaching search.
07:20Obviously we're getting ahead of ourselves in that instance.
07:23I don't love talking about it.
07:25I know, you know, Aaron glad he's on fire, but I will say, I understand where you're coming
07:28from.
07:29And I think the difference, if you're, if you're looking for like, Hey, why should I have faith
07:33that they can get this right?
07:34This is going to be Darren Mugee making this hire.
07:38I'm confident in that.
07:39Like Woody Johnson is going to sign off on it.
07:41Right.
07:42But, um, if I don't think there's any reason that Darren Mugee should be fired.
07:46I think he's done a good enough job that he deserves to keep his job.
07:52And to me, you know, you saw this in 2021, Joe Douglas hired Sala, right?
07:58Ultimately Christopher Johnson signed off on it, but that was Joe Douglas's hire.
08:01I think the jets would do the same thing here.
08:03They would say to Mugee, you go, you go hire the coach.
08:05I don't think Woody has the stomach, you know, to, to interview 15 guys again, like
08:10he did just two years ago.
08:12I don't think they're going to be interested in spending giving Mike Tannenbaum any more
08:15money or any other search firm.
08:17So I think this would be a Mugee hire.
08:19Can he do it?
08:20We don't know.
08:21He's never done it.
08:22But like, if you, if you feel good about Mugee and you kind of trust what he's done so
08:27far, then that's a reason to have hope there that, that they could find a coach.
08:33It's unbelievable that the Jets season feels like cause it's over before we even get to
08:37Halloween yet again.
08:39Yeah.
08:39And we talked to holidays, right?
08:40Like, you know, I love the holidays.
08:42Yes.
08:42It's it's.
08:43And yeah, it's crazy.
08:44It's crazy.
08:45It's been, we couldn't get to Thanksgiving.
08:47It's been a decade plus now.
08:49It feels like I've just, and I know there was two years in, in, in 23 where they started
08:53well in 22, but like, yeah, it's just been a lot of bad football and it all falls again.
08:59I think on the coach, it falls on the coach, getting this team prepared and putting them
09:03in situations to win football games.
09:05So you talked about, you talked about the bad stuff.
09:08That's inexcusable yesterday.
09:09And I want to dive into some of those things.
09:12In the first half alone, outscored 21, seven, they gave up 231 yards to the dolphins offense.
09:17They only had 114 themselves.
09:19They really didn't have the ball much in the first half because the dolphins were just controlling
09:22the ball caused those first three possessions.
09:24It felt like, and the jets couldn't get off the field.
09:27So I want to start there with the defense and how one, it didn't feel like Glenn had his
09:33team prepared and ready to rock and roll to start the game.
09:35And two, I'm curious your thoughts about the end of the first half, not using the timeouts
09:41and what you saw or when that went down.
09:45Yeah.
09:46I'll start with the defense.
09:47And yeah, I thought the game plan was terrible.
09:50You know, I thought if you looked at it, the dolphins had ran for 200 yards against the
09:54bangles.
09:55They had run for over a hundred yards, I think in the last four games or so.
10:00So to me, the game plan was stop the run.
10:04Don't let Malik Willis run around.
10:07And if he beats you with his arm, he beats you with his arm.
10:09Now he did have a good passing day yesterday, but I thought the jets came out kind of soft.
10:14I didn't think they, I haven't seen the blitz numbers, Ryan.
10:17Have you looked those up?
10:18I don't know how much they blitzed yesterday, but it didn't feel like they blitzed a ton.
10:25And yeah, they just, you know, not ready to play is a tough one to evaluate.
10:29But I thought the game plan was bad from the start and they were giving up big plays to
10:34the tight end.
10:35He, Dulcich was wide open in the middle of the field.
10:38They gave up some long runs to Gordon right off the bat.
10:41And then if you go to the second half, I thought they played really well in the third quarter
10:46and then you get to 21, 17 and they gave up the 63 yard pass to Douglas where they don't,
10:52they just don't tackle.
10:53I mean, it was just bad tackling.
10:54And then you can't get off the field at the end of the game, you know, where, where the
11:00Dolphins are allowed to be able to run the clock.
11:02So the defense, yeah, it was, it was rough.
11:06Did you find the blitz numbers?
11:07Yeah.
11:07So the Jets blitzed him 12 of, um, 19.
11:13Uh, how many dropbacks did he have yesterday?
11:15Malik had, uh, he had 28 dropbacks.
11:20They blitzed him on 12 dropbacks yesterday out of the 28.
11:23Yeah.
11:24So that's not much.
11:25I would think it'd be higher against a quarterback like him.
11:27Uh, then in terms of the end of the half.
11:29Yeah.
11:30I was, I, I was kind of stunned in real time.
11:33Sometimes I don't always see that in real time, Ron, but when,
11:37uh, Willis had that run where he slid on the sideline and got the first down, that was
11:43the first problem.
11:43Like, all right, I would take a timeout here, take a timeout.
11:45And they didn't.
11:47Then you could argue, okay, don't take a timeout there.
11:50But then when, when Gordon, I think ran it for like four yards and they would second down.
11:54Now I'm banging the timeout because I can use the three timeouts.
11:58I'm thinking I'm stopping them there.
12:00Uh, get them to kick a field goal, but I'm getting the ball back with maybe 50 seconds
12:04left, 45 seconds left.
12:05And you could do something with it.
12:07I don't understand his explanation yesterday.
12:09I don't understand his explanation today.
12:12Um, to me, this is a game about getting the maximum number of possessions you possibly
12:18can.
12:19That's why teams defer, right?
12:22Like you want to get that possession.
12:23You're hoping you're getting a possession at the end of the first half and the possession
12:26at the beginning of the second half and can double score there, right?
12:28That's the whole, that's why every team defers.
12:32So why are you not trying to get the ball back there?
12:34And I think this is, I can't remember the other, what was the other game, Ryan, where
12:37he didn't do it?
12:37There was another game where he didn't really try to get the ball back.
12:40Uh, was it the Packers?
12:43Against the Green Bay Packers game.
12:44Yeah.
12:44Packers game.
12:45Yep.
12:46Yeah.
12:46And it was like, you know, yeah.
12:48Why aren't you, oh, it was the end of the game with the Packers.
12:50It was the end of the game where he didn't call the timeouts to give his chance again.
12:53He didn't call the timeouts.
12:54Yeah.
12:54Yeah.
12:55It's like, why aren't you trying to give your offense another possession?
12:57It doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever, but you know, I, uh, in a hundred, now it's
13:05a hundred and seven to six.
13:08It's again, you know, you asked me my thoughts at the top.
13:12Sure.
13:12And something I was thinking about this morning is one thing I wrote this off season
13:16and I strongly believed is like, just, just can't be embarrassing this year.
13:20Like that was the bar to me.
13:22It was, I didn't expect them to go to the playoffs.
13:24I picked them to go six and 11, didn't have high expectations, but last year was so embarrassing
13:30with the zero interceptions and the way they finished the season.
13:34Um, I thought this year they could be like, just not embarrassing.
13:39One hundred and seven to six over the last two years, the end of the first half, that's
13:43another stats, a stat, like zero interceptions where you're like, you can't even wrap your
13:46brain around it, how it's possible.
13:48And they've had two embarrassing losses.
13:50Now I'm in Chicago.
13:52Running 89 plays on them was embarrassing.
13:54And then yesterday was embarrassing losing to the winless Dolphins.
13:57So I think we'll probably win more games, Ryan, to be honest.
14:00We're being honest.
14:00I think, I think they're a well-coached team.
14:03Uh, I do think they have some good young players is they're going to have a hard time being
14:06consistent because they don't have a lot of experience and they don't have, there's,
14:11there's wide swaths of their roster.
14:14Like who is this guy that they're playing a starter wise, but they are well-coached and
14:19I can see them, you know, I can see them winning more games.
14:21And now here's where you say, right.
14:22Yeah.
14:22They play the jets again.
14:23They definitely could win more games.
14:25So I'm curious, you said, you said, uh, just there that, you know, you think they have
14:29the Dolphins, meaning that they have, uh, you know, a good young coach right there in
14:32Jeff Halfley.
14:33They do.
14:34So, so I, I'm, I'm interested to, to expand on that a little bit because Halfley, it was
14:40impressive yesterday.
14:41I felt like even at the end of the first half where he managed that successfully of like,
14:45okay, the jets are not calling any timeouts.
14:48Let me let the clock run down when we get into the goal, into the red zone.
14:50And then I could give my team three opportunities here to score a touchdown.
14:54He managed it perfectly there in that situation.
14:56And then I thought it was aggressive at the end to go for it on fourth down, try to get
15:00your first winning on the road.
15:03And my crazy cause though, the Aaron Glenn has never had that type of moment where you
15:07or I have gone, man, the jets got a good young coach right there.
15:11I feel confident in what he just did in that situation.
15:14And that's where I think this all leads to this conversation of Aaron Glenn, just, he's
15:20not a good head coach.
15:21He just, he does not look like a good head coach right now.
15:24Um, I thought he, I thought his best moment last year was against the Bengals.
15:30I thought he managed that very well.
15:32Remember he was like going for two, you know, they came back.
15:35Uh, he hadn't, it was, there was some good, I'm not sure if it was game, like time management
15:40necessarily, but there was good game management that he did in that Bengals game.
15:43He's not a young coach, Ryan.
15:45So we're never saying this good young coach, but yeah, yeah, I get what you're saying.
15:48Um, and that came kind of late that came up in the eighth game of the season.
15:53So you're kind of like already down on his game management, but I haven't watched the
15:56Dolphins every single game.
15:58I'm not sure if Halfway's had some bad moments, but I do know Halfway interviewed with the
16:01Jets in 25 and they, they were like, they liked him.
16:05They were very impressed by him.
16:06And I remember hearing good things after his interview.
16:09Um, I thought he was a strong candidate for the Giants last year, you know, being a Jersey
16:14guy before John Harbaugh emerged because everyone you talk to talks highly of Halfway.
16:19I've talked to Salah about Halfway because remember Salah went to Green Bay after he was
16:24fired by the Jets and Halfway was the DC there and Salah really liked Halfway and was really
16:29impressed with his coaching there.
16:31So I think they got a good one there.
16:33Yeah.
16:33Uh, he certainly seemed like, I love what I saw.
16:36I mean, I hate as a Jets fan, what I saw in the locker, but it was cool to see
16:40them
16:40celebrate with him for his, for his first victory.
16:42Uh, again, just real quick on the blitz rate yesterday, just even further total as a team
16:48on both rushing and passing downs.
16:49Cause I had just looked up the passing downs from Malik wills.
16:51The Jets had a blitz at a 42.9% blitz rate yesterday on all snaps defensively.
16:57Uh, in the first half, it was 33%.
17:00They upped it in the second half to 55% from Aaron Glenn's, uh, play calling, uh, spot there
17:05that both run and, and, and pass plays, um, at, in that fourth quarter really caused while
17:11the end of the first half is troubling again.
17:13And now that, that, that total that we're going to stare at forever now of 27 to nothing
17:17this year, 107 to six in the final two minutes of the first half under Aaron Glenn's tenure.
17:23That's horrible.
17:24Horrible and disgusting to look at as a fan in itself.
17:27I really thought this game was lost though, in the fourth quarter, when they get that
17:30ball to the one inch yard line and they have a chance to tie the game at that point.
17:34And they settle for a field goal.
17:36A lot of heat is after Frank Reich yesterday, despite the, the offense putting up a lot of
17:40numbers.
17:41What did you see just from that series and overall from the offense?
17:46Yeah.
17:47Um, I thought he got way too cute.
17:50The fullback dive, like no offense to Andrew Beck, but this is his first carry of the season.
17:56He had one carry last year.
17:57Like, I don't get it.
17:59Like if you're going to run the ball, just hand the ball to Braylon Allen and go, uh, I'm
18:03a, I'm a quarterback sneak guy when it's that close to a first down or a touchdown, you know,
18:10the dolphins had the tush push at the end of the game.
18:13Do the jets have a tush push?
18:14Like, I'm not saying you have to be Eagles and run it all the time, but I feel like that's
18:19a discovery that's been made in the last five years of football.
18:23Like, Hey, this is a play that works in short yardage.
18:26You know, maybe the jets don't feel like they can execute it with their offensive line.
18:30I don't know.
18:30But like, I hated the fullback dive.
18:34I hated the third down rollout with Gino that ends up in a sack.
18:38Um, so yeah, not good.
18:40And then, yeah, they lost the game there and then they lost it giving up a 63 yard touchdown
18:45after that, the defense wise, but overall the offense, right?
18:49I mean, it's weird.
18:51They put up good numbers, but they are not a good offense if you watch them.
18:55Um, and there's just long periods of ineffective play.
19:00Um, yesterday, I mean, their yardage came, they hit some really big plays, which is great.
19:05That's part of the game.
19:06It's good that they're explosive, but you can't live on that.
19:11I don't think, I think you need to be able to put together 10 play drives, 11 play drives.
19:14We don't see that a lot from the jets.
19:17Um, and then the, you know, the Garrett Wilson, I mean, I think I said on the show the other
19:22day, like I would have bet the over, I would have bet everything I had.
19:25If I, it's a good thing.
19:25I don't bet money because I thought the over on Garrett was a sure thing.
19:30And how the hell does he get three targets in that game?
19:33Um, I just, I can't comprehend it.
19:36Yeah.
19:37So to expand upon further, I will get into the Garrett thing real quick.
19:40Cause I do have some stats here that are alarming cause I'm on yesterday with Garrett itself.
19:44The jets put up 377 yards of offense.
19:47Like you had discussed, uh, they did score a couple of touchdowns there.
19:50Mason Taylor, I thought was really impressive yesterday, considering he had two of those,
19:55you got Moss type catches.
19:56Um, anytime touchdown score, I gave out Ryan.
19:59Hey, you're making some, you're making some money for some people.
20:02I think God awful this year and everything else, but that one I hit, uh, and then the
20:07emergence of Omar Cooper, right?
20:09Like Omar Cooper in two weeks now looks like a legitimate, maybe two number two receiver.
20:14Uh, if they have a number one in Garrett Wilson, but, uh, so I, with Frank Reich on that series
20:20right there, like you said, the fullback dive didn't make sense to Andrew Beck, considering
20:23he really isn't involved in the game plan of touching the ball.
20:27Then you go, finally, halfback dive with Braylon Allen and the jets interior.
20:31Again, can not get prep.
20:33Can I get that push?
20:34It feels like on short yardage situation cause is this a matter of the coach calling the
20:40plays at the wrong time?
20:41Or is it the jets just don't have the bodies up in the middle to be able to open up
20:46those
20:46type of holes for Braylon on short yardage situations?
20:48Cause when they're in the middle of the field, Braylon's carving them up in the middle.
20:53Yeah.
20:53I don't think those are exclusive Ryan.
20:55Right.
20:55Right.
20:55I think if you don't feel like you have the personnel, why are you calling the plays to dive
21:00right up the middle, right?
21:01Like maybe, maybe you did need to run a bootleg there.
21:04Maybe you did need to find Mason Taylor for another touchdown or Kenyon Sadiq.
21:09Remember him?
21:09Maybe you get him open.
21:11Um, so maybe you do something like that on second down and try, try to, to do that instead
21:19of the third down.
21:20And then when he gets sacked, it's over.
21:22Um, yeah, I don't know the answers there, right, but I, I don't think they trust their
21:28interior offensive line right now.
21:30Obviously they're still waiting on Parham to come back.
21:33That'll help.
21:33But I don't think Josh Myers, that's his specialty.
21:38I don't think that's Joe Tippman specialty.
21:39They're smaller.
21:41Um, you know, we've talked about Tippman a lot.
21:45Um, but yeah, I, I just, you just got to get it done from the one yard line and you
21:52have
21:52to be able to punch it in there.
21:53You know, one thing I will say about this Jets offense too, in the red zone, while it's
21:57been frustrating, they did convert on a couple of those yesterday.
22:00It, the numbers look better than what we're talking about of how the game felt right in
22:04terms of what we saw on the field and how they executed.
22:07I mean, it took really two awesome touchdown catches from Mason Taylor to convert some of
22:11those red zone trips.
22:12The Omar Cooper junior touchdown was a really nice design play.
22:16I'll give credit where credit's due there.
22:17Him coming out of the backfield.
22:19Uh, but, but like you said, it feels like there's more there on the table that they're
22:24just not getting cause.
22:25And let's talk about the more being Garrett Wilson.
22:29So you said unexplainable for three targets again, yesterday, zero in the first half.
22:33One of them was on a penalty where they took away that target in terms of targets percentage
22:39per route run, meaning how many times are you getting targeted in all the
22:42routes that you're running it during a game.
22:43Did you know that Garrett Wilson was the second lowest percentage on targets per route run
22:48yesterday?
22:49And guess who's the lowest?
22:52Who's the lowest?
22:53Sadiq?
22:53Kenyon Sadiq.
22:54So you have Kenyon Sadiq.
22:56You're talking about, you're talking about lowest in the NFL or lowest?
22:59Just yesterday on the Jets team.
23:01On the Jets team itself.
23:02On the Jets team.
23:02Okay.
23:03Yeah.
23:03Yeah.
23:03And the Jets team itself.
23:04So yesterday target percentage per route run.
23:07Garrett Wilson was second lowest on the team at 12.5%.
23:10He had 25 routes run.
23:12Three of them were actual targets.
23:14So that turned into a 12.5%.
23:16Kenyon Sadiq was 8.3% with the, the, the, the lowest.
23:19And Adonai Mitchell was the third lowest at 17.6.
23:24Cause I, I, I don't know what else to say in terms of, I don't know how you're not getting
23:28the ball into Garrett Wilson's hands.
23:30I've watched JSN.
23:31I've watched Jamar Chase, T Higgins.
23:33I've seen all the best receivers.
23:35And I'm not saying Garrett's a top 10 receiver.
23:37I know a lot of people want to argue with that.
23:39I'm not going to argue with that, but he is in a very good wide receiver.
23:43That should be part of your game plan.
23:45No matter what, how is it that Geno Smith and Frank Reich are not able to get the ball
23:50into his hands early and often?
23:54I don't know.
23:56I'm baffled, Ryan.
23:57I saw you, did you, you tweeted all his routes, right?
24:00I did.
24:01What did you find in that?
24:02I was able to watch it.
24:03Yeah.
24:03So there were two obvious misses where, uh, Geno had first in the second quarter had checked
24:08down to Braylon.
24:09If you remember into the flat and get, and he had a clean pocket.
24:13Garrett Wilson was streaking over the middle.
24:15No one within 10 yards of him.
24:17He completely just did not want to pull the trigger to him.
24:20And then the second time there was an out route where Geno, Geno, again, doesn't even
24:25look to Garrett's way and he's wide open.
24:27And instead Garrett takes a sack.
24:28But the more troubling thing I would say, besides the Garrett Wilson, not getting targeted
24:32on those types of plays, there were walk-in touchdowns to Omar Cooper, Kenyon Sadiq and
24:39AD Mitchell that Geno missed on three straight plays or not straight plays, but three plays
24:44in the game where Kaz, if they hit them, you're talking about major explosive plays, walk-in touchdowns.
24:50I saw the Mitchell one.
24:50The Mitchell one down the sideline you're talking about?
24:52Yeah.
24:53Yeah.
24:53I mean, the next play, he had Omar Cooper for a long one.
24:56He did.
24:56So he'd come back.
24:57But yeah.
24:58So that to me is where, again, the numbers would say, hey, Geno had a pretty good day
25:03yesterday, but the QBR is 77 and the film is not lying to me where it says, you're missing
25:09explosive plays downfield when guys are running wide open.
25:14Yeah.
25:15Yeah.
25:15Geno is a perplexing quarterback, right?
25:17Like he, I have a hard time with him because he's not bad, right?
25:22Like this isn't Zach Wilson or Justin Fields or like where you're like, oh my God, this
25:25guy can't play quarterback.
25:26He can play quarterback, but he doesn't really elevate those around him to be much better.
25:33So it doesn't feel like he's, it feels like it's kind of like a net zero with Geno, right?
25:38Like he's not hurting you, but he's not winning you football games either.
25:41Um, which is weird for a quarterback because usually they are bad or they are good and
25:47there's not much in between, but Geno is in between for sure.
25:51Uh, you just look at her like, oh, they're rolling the coverage.
25:55Like don't they roll the coverage to every good receiver and these guys still get the
26:00ball?
26:00Like how, how is that happening?
26:01Like I, they've just got to figure out ways to get him the ball.
26:05And I thought it was going to be this week because it's, you know, right.
26:08You're too young to know this, but the dolphins once had a defense in the seventies.
26:12Their nickname was the no name defense and the dolphins yesterday with a no name defense
26:17because I couldn't tell you who was playing cornerback still right now.
26:21I don't know who was playing cornerback because every time anyone made a play, I had to pull
26:24up my little flip card.
26:26Who was that guy?
26:27Because right.
26:28So like, this wasn't Christian Gonzalez taking Garrett out of the game.
26:32I don't even know who these guys are.
26:34Like they, they, they should have been able to get him open.
26:36They should have been able to scheme him open.
26:38Geno's got it.
26:39And I'm sure it's a combination of Reich and Geno.
26:42Yes.
26:42Yes.
26:43It's not, it's not all one or the other, but they've got to have a meeting this week.
26:47And the guy is extremely frustrated.
26:49Obviously CBS showed him yelling at Seth Ryan yesterday.
26:53He was biting his tongue again in the post game locker room.
26:56So, uh, they got to figure this out.
26:58It's, uh, it's, it's puzzling.
27:01It's, it's, it's frustrating as heck as a fan, because I do believe in the talent, like
27:05you said, and I do believe that you can scheme him to get the ball, no matter what the coverage
27:11is, is telling you or dictating to you.
27:13It does hurt though.
27:15When the quarterback is not looking his way and when the offensive coordinator is just
27:18not designing those plays, because maybe there's also those times.
27:22And I think the film will tell you this Gino's first and second reads aren't even
27:26towards Garrett's side.
27:27He's not even looking on that side of the field.
27:29And it feels more like he's becoming a decoy in this offensive game plan.
27:32And that is not what you spend $30 million a year on cause.
27:36Um, one of the other bright spots besides Omar Cooper and Mason Taylor was Braylon Allen
27:41goes for a hundred plus yards again, uh, total from scrimmage cause.
27:45And yeah, he's really been a bright spot in this running, running attack two straight
27:50weeks.
27:50Uh, Brees was practicing last week.
27:53Didn't play, didn't suit up, uh, this past weekend.
27:55Maybe he makes his return against the Raiders.
27:58How, how do they incorporate both of these guys to be a part of this ground game plan?
28:02Because we're, we're talking about all these weapons, the jets have, but apparently the
28:06offense just can't put up enough points.
28:08Well, that'll be the next storyline.
28:10You can see that one coming in my way, don't you?
28:12Yeah, I do.
28:13Uh, why, why are they giving Braylon more cameras?
28:16Why are they giving Braylon, like, yeah, it's, it's, but it's a good problem to have.
28:20It's noticeable though.
28:21Right.
28:21With Braylon in their ground, ground attack.
28:23Yeah.
28:23He's been very good.
28:25He's been very good.
28:25And so it's going to be interesting to see how Reich incorporates both of them.
28:29Can you get them both on the field at the same time?
28:31I mean, one of the problems I'm, I think they're having right now is personnel packages
28:37of like Kenyon City played 22 snaps yesterday.
28:41Now I get Mason Taylor, a really good game.
28:43Like we talked about.
28:43So Mason Taylor's ahead of him, like in the rotation and they clearly trust Mason a little
28:48bit more, maybe with running, one blocking, maybe with the playbook.
28:51I'm not sure, but you know, you can't have all these guys on the field at the same time.
28:56So when you have Cooper, Mitchell and Wilson on the field, you're going to have one tight
29:02end most of the time.
29:04And that seemed to be Mason Taylor yesterday.
29:06Uh, you know, earlier in the season, we were talking a lot about 12 personnel and 13 personnel.
29:10And, you know, when they had five tight ends in the, against Tennessee, do they get back
29:15to that at all?
29:17Um, do they try to do two, you know, pony package with two running backs with freezing
29:21Braylon?
29:24That's a lot of decisions for Mr. Reich to make coming up.
29:27And it's going to be interesting to see how this plays out.
29:30It does feel like he just doesn't adjust well.
29:33And I mean, Frank Reich in terms of like the first scripted drive cause it's always been
29:38good for him to start this year.
29:39But then after that, it just feels like it's a huge letdown.
29:42Like you said about personnel packages on third down, we're having three tight ends and Garrett
29:47Wilson not on the field with Tim Patrick on the field.
29:49Like, it's just, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's unbelievable that we are talking about how
29:55the Jets just don't have their best players on the field enough in a lot of these situations.
29:59And maybe that is what's ultimately harming them in winning these games.
30:05Yeah.
30:06You know, it's interesting.
30:07Glenn this morning said, like he was asked about Garrett again.
30:10He's like, this isn't the problem with our offense, basically.
30:14Like, you know, and I get where he's coming from.
30:18I don't think that's the reason they lost the game yesterday is because Garrett didn't
30:22get enough targets, but Garrett getting more targets could be the reason you win the game.
30:28And he's your best player.
30:29I don't think that's debatable.
30:32So they've got to figure out how to get him on the field more involved.
30:36I think Sadiq is number two on that list.
30:39He runs a four, three.
30:40Three, he's a freakish athlete that most teams don't have.
30:46How, how are you not using that weapon?
30:47You drafted him for a reason.
30:50I expected to see Sadiq lining up all over the place.
30:55I expected Sadiq to get handoffs in the backfield, Ryan.
30:58I expected Sadiq to get in the round like he did in Tennessee where he scored his first
31:01touchdown.
31:02I expected to see Sadiq in the seam, like we talked about.
31:05I expected to see Sadiq in the red zone.
31:07You know, one catch, you know, one catch yesterday.
31:11And I understand Aaron Glenn's point, but I think they've got to figure out a way to
31:19get these guys more involved.
31:20I think their offense has potential.
31:23We just, we're just not seeing the production right now.
31:25We're seeing production.
31:27We're seeing yardage.
31:28We're just not seeing winning, winning offense right now.
31:31Certainly not, Kaz.
31:32Certainly not.
31:32But final thoughts here as they head into another game against the Raiders, where the
31:38Raiders are traveling across the country.
31:41Jets are going to be home.
31:42There's a chance that Fernando Mendoza might even be starting this week, which is, you
31:45know, yeah, another intriguing aspect of this game coming up.
31:51Guys, I gotta be honest with you.
31:52All the Jets fans are done with Aaron Glenn.
31:55Despite, even if he wants to reel off a win here against the Raiders, I don't think he's
31:59going to put the fans in a different spot in terms of where they're thinking about him.
32:05So how does the rest of this play out with him this season?
32:08Because I can't believe, again, we're at this point where we're not even at Halloween
32:13and Jets fans are ready for the season to be over.
32:16Yeah, I'm with you.
32:17Win over the Raiders isn't going to do much.
32:20But like I said, he's got to pull some surprises off.
32:24He's got to maybe beat a Bills team, maybe beat a Broncos team at home, beat a Vikings
32:29team at home.
32:30I don't think they're winning at Arrowhead Stadium.
32:31I find that hard to believe.
32:33But can they win?
32:35Can they pull off an upset or two here?
32:38And they cannot have any.
32:40I mean, yesterday might have been it, right?
32:43Like it might already be over, but they certainly can't afford any more games like yesterday.
32:47Like they can't have a no-show when they go to Miami.
32:50They can't have a no-show against Arizona.
32:52They can't have a no-show this week against the Raiders.
32:55You got to win these games.
32:57And to me, and then pull off an upset or two.
33:01And maybe you feel better about this team at the end of the season than you do now.
33:06Maybe they do find some rhythm offensively.
33:10The young players do look good.
33:11The rookies have played well.
33:13So can you build off of that?
33:15I think it's a little trickier when it's not a quarterback.
33:19Obviously, if you had a rookie quarterback and we're building toward the end of the season,
33:22you'd feel better about it.
33:25But yeah, it's going to be, it feels like right now for me, looking at this,
33:29this is going to be a long 10 games.
33:31Because it feels like now we're just kind of marching to the offseason at this point.
33:36But maybe they can surprise us, Ry.
33:39I love that you continue to try to make this somewhat positive as much as you can.
33:44You're doing your job, obviously.
33:45If I'm the one making it positive, we're in trouble, right?
33:49Everyone thinks I'm negative.
33:51We're in trouble.
33:52I'm trying to find the positive light.
33:53Because yesterday was like ground zero here for all Jets fans.
33:57It's just, I don't know, man.
34:01How is Frankie?
34:02How is Frankie taking it?
34:03Frankie was like me a little bit yesterday in terms of relief, relief after losing that game
34:10because we finally can just put this to bed and say the Jets hired another lame duck head coach
34:15that just doesn't belong as a head coach.
34:16You guys can't put it to bed.
34:17There's 10 more games.
34:18There's 10 more games.
34:19Everyone's writing it out.
34:21You guys aren't going to sit there Sunday and not watch.
34:23No, no.
34:24We're going to watch for the young players and we're going to watch for them progressing.
34:28But we're going to, we all know the answer.
34:30Like we're waiting for the Jets to fire Aaron Glenn.
34:33That's the truth.
34:35That's the truth.
34:35So will you get annoyed?
34:36Will you get annoyed if he makes a mistake, game management mistake Sunday?
34:41No, because it's not surprising anymore.
34:43It's not surprising anymore.
34:46I just don't think you guys are going to get annoyed.
34:50Less than any Jets fan that still believes that he can coach his way out of this right now.
34:54I don't think it's about believing this, Aaron Ryan.
34:57I just think I've seen you guys too many times.
34:58Sometimes you guys never just completely throw in the towel on it.
35:03Like you're always, maybe like the last game of the season.
35:05Like I felt it then, but I've never felt it in November.
35:08I've seen, I've seen the coaches lose.
35:11And, you know, you knew like Gase, you knew in 2020 what was happening with Gase.
35:15And you guys were still, you're still laying it when they were playing the Patriots and
35:18they were playing the Raiders.
35:21You know, so I don't know.
35:22I think you guys will still be, still be crushing him on Sunday when he makes a mistake.
35:27I mean, crushing him because they continue to keep him employed.
35:30This guy shouldn't have a job.
35:31Yeah.
35:32It's bad.
35:33It's bad.
35:33It's really bad.
35:34Well, I don't think, we didn't talk about it, but I don't think you can, I don't know,
35:41I don't want to say you should, you should not fire him.
35:43I mean, firing him now does nothing.
35:45I get that everybody wants blood right now, but if you really think through it, right.
35:50Who's going to replace him?
35:52It's going to be Frank Reich.
35:53Yeah.
35:54Yeah.
35:54You want that?
35:55No.
35:55Like he's done such a good job as the office coordinator.
35:57Let's make him the head coach.
35:58Like, no, it's, it's Glenn's defense.
36:01That's not changing.
36:02If you fire him, Brian Duker is now going to be, it's sort of like with Sala.
36:06Like that was Sala's defense and you fired him.
36:09And all of a sudden the defense looked even worse because Ulbrich was now completely running
36:13it by himself.
36:14And he was trying to be the head coach.
36:15Like we've been down this road a couple of years ago.
36:17The interim coach thing doesn't work in the NFL.
36:21So there's no reason to fire him right now other than because, you know, it would make
36:25you guys happy for a few days, but you'll be, you'd be complaining about Frank Reich
36:29on Sunday if he was the interim coach.
36:31Can I ask you a question?
36:33Cause now I had to, when you had started the episode saying there's still some winnable
36:37games besides this Raiders game, where exactly do you see just for my own purposes, where
36:42do you see the win on the, on the schedule here for the jets, the rest of this way, they
36:47could beat the Cardinals in, in Arizona, in Arizona, they could beat the Cardinals.
36:52They could beat the dolphins in Miami.
36:54I know it hasn't happened in a long time, but the dolphins aren't unbeatable.
36:58They're not unbeatable.
36:59I'm not saying they're unbeatable, but in Miami, the jets do not historically do well.
37:04No, but look, the bills might have the number one seed wrapped up or something.
37:09Well, at that point we need to lose games.
37:11We cannot win the last game of the season like that.
37:16So there, you know, and I also think like, you, you never know what teams are going to
37:22look like in December.
37:23There's going to be, there's going to be some of those quarterbacks could be injured.
37:27There could be other injuries.
37:27You never know.
37:29They got some games at home.
37:31I don't, I don't think this team is like incapable of winning games, Riley.
37:36I know they looked horrible yesterday.
37:38I get it, but they didn't look horrible in, in Tennessee.
37:43They didn't look horrible against green bed.
37:45They didn't look horrible against Detroit, Cleveland, you know, new England was there, but like they,
37:52this is not a God awful football team.
37:55It's not, and it's not, it's not, it's not, I'm still sticking with six and 11, Ryan.

38:04Wow.
38:04I'm not backing off six and 11.
38:05You expect four more wins out of these, out of these games coming up.
38:08I do.
38:09I think the coaching is just that much of a detriment right now to this team, even despite
38:13the talent trying to outproduce that the, whatever the coaching is giving them tough
38:18to win football games when your coaches are putting in bad spots.
38:20And that's what the jets currently have been dealing with.
38:22And that's what they've been dealing with well over a decade plus now.
