00:00:13Hello, welcome to Gangs All Here. My name is Ryan Sampson. That's our Jets beat writer,
00:00:16Brian Costello, and that's my guy, Frankie Vitorini from U-Stadium. Today is Thursday,
00:00:21October 29th, guys. We have Week 8 Jets vs. Raiders at MetLife, 1 o'clock Sunday.
00:00:26Today, there's some things to talk about this game. There's a lot to talk about off the field as
00:00:31well. The Jets are coming off a brutal, brutal loss to the winless Miami Dolphins, who are no
00:00:36longer winless. And this team just is in a rough spot right now, starting the season 2-5. But
00:00:44before we get to any of it, as always, I'll start with Kaz. How are you doing today, buddy?
00:00:49I'm good, Ryan. How are you? We had to wait a couple minutes here for Frankie to get his act
00:00:53together. He needs a John Berger in his life to tell him how to manage his time.
00:00:58Hey, he's trying to emulate his coach, right? He's trying to manage the clock.
00:01:03I think Frankie's banned from criticizing Aaron Glenn's time management this week after his time
00:01:10management made us wait five minutes. You're not wrong. You're not wrong. Frankie,
00:01:14you are a little bit late, buddy. You know what, man? Let me tell you something. I don't know what
00:01:18this city's trying to do with these roads here, but they decide that every single highway needs to
00:01:23get, you know, get constructed on or have construction at the same time. You got the
00:01:28Grand Central Parkway, Astoria Boulevard. I can't do it, Kaz. I can't win out here, man. I can't win.
00:01:34Sounds like convenient excuses to me. Yeah, sounds like excuses, excuses, excuses.
00:01:38Sounds like someone who's not taking accountability for what's going on out there. Oh, we're going to go
00:01:43there. All right. All right. Uh, Kaz, I always start with a vibe check and the vibes seem like
00:01:47they're low from a fan perspective. What's it like in the locker room after losing to the Dolphins
00:01:53and going two and five now? Yeah, they seemed a little low yesterday, right? To be honest with you.
00:01:58Um, you know, there wasn't a lot of ping pong being played. Uh, they play, there's a game for,
00:02:06was it, is it four square? Is that what it's called? I never played that as a kid, but my
00:02:12kids
00:02:12played it. Like it's like, there's four, they have tape in the locker room with four squares
00:02:16and they hit a ball back and forth. Now I will say that's usually a Friday thing and it gets
00:02:21quite
00:02:22loud in there when they play that. So we'll see Friday if they pick things up, but yesterday seemed
00:02:26a little down. Um, and obviously Garrett had what he had to say. So that was interesting, but yeah, I,
00:02:34I think it feels like the season's at a crossroads right now. It, it feels like it. I think it's
00:02:42the
00:02:42reality of the situation, uh, when you start two and five and the way they've gone about some of
00:02:47these losses and it feels like cause, and I'm curious what you think about this.
00:02:52There's some wins that could have happened this season at the jets have just unfortunately let
00:02:57slip through their fingers. Um, and, and by that, I think it's some of it's a due to how the
00:03:03offense
00:03:03has not lived up to the potential that we want. And other parts is the coaching is just not getting
00:03:08them to where they need to be and whether that's through game management or putting guys in the
00:03:12right spots to be successful. What is your read now? Uh, as we're now removed a couple of days from
00:03:18that loss of the jets and where they're at in this point in the season at two and five.
00:03:25Yeah. I mean, look, I think the only games they really weren't competitive were what the bears
00:03:32Patriots. I think you'd put those, those games as they didn't really feel like they had a chance to
00:03:36win those games. Um, so yeah, but we've talked about this before, right? And we look at everything
00:03:42through a jets lens, right? In Tennessee, they're sitting there going, Oh, we could have, we could
00:03:48have beat the giants. We could have beat the Eagles. We could have beat like they, a lot of games
00:03:51are
00:03:52close to the NFL. It's pretty rare to see three touchdown losses and things like that. So almost
00:03:57everybody in the NFL who's at the bottom right now is probably playing that game of, uh, you know,
00:04:02the, this week's opponent, the Raiders, I'm sure they're looking at the bills game as a game
00:04:06they could have won. And, uh, the chiefs game was a close game for them. They could have won that.
00:04:11So everybody plays that game. It's a little dangerous to me to, to get caught up in that too
00:04:16much, but yeah, I think Riley, you know, we looked at this four game stretch and say, can they win
00:04:23three out of four here? They can have a season if they win three out of four, you know, that's
00:04:27not
00:04:28going to happen. They've already, they've already lost, uh, you know, two of those games. So they
00:04:35can, you know, they win this one at two and two, but it's, it feels like it's a very big
00:04:40uphill climb
00:04:41to make anything happen. Positive this season. Frankie, uh, is there any way for you as a fan
00:04:47here for the jets to get back on track? If they were to get this win this week against the
00:04:51Raiders
00:04:52and move to three and five, are you really asking me that? I am asking you that. I am asking
00:04:58you
00:04:58that Ryan, they'd have to win. They'd have to win their next four games in a row, four game win
00:05:05streak. So I'm, I'm, I'm costed three or four. I'm going to, I'm going to go one up there when
00:05:10you're next. I said this past stretch was three or three. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Sorry about the Browns,
00:05:15the Browns Patriots, Dolphins Raiders. I felt like you can win three of those four games. Yes. And then
00:05:19you go into this next stretch with the chiefs and the bills at four and four and you're going,
00:05:24okay, you know, you can, you can have a season still. Yeah. For, I mean, they haven't won at
00:05:29Arrowhead since 1998 guys. I looked that up this morning. Cause I was trying to think if I ever
00:05:33covered a jets win at Arrowhead stadium, I have not, I was a young man in 1998. Uh, Ryan was
00:05:39just
00:05:39born around then. Right. I was six years old, buddy. What are you talking about? Wow. So yeah. So I
00:05:47think
00:05:47going forward might be a tough, tough ask Frankie. Well, I, yeah, no, but go ahead. Frankie.
00:05:54Well, no quickly, just for me to buy back in. Right. I mean, I, I can't listen. I, I, I
00:06:01did
00:06:01predict we lose to the dolphins. Right. And, and, but that was, that was kind of like a hail
00:06:06Mary kind of prediction there to a degree, because you kind of look at the rosters and you're thinking,
00:06:11how's this going to happen? I mean, this doesn't seem like it's feasible whatsoever. Um, but I had
00:06:17a feeling with this team and I still do. The only way that feeling goes away where they're going to
00:06:23be able to out scheme and just out prepare and, and win close games is, is by doing it. I
00:06:30mean,
00:06:30we always talk about this team winning three or four, you know, if you win two of your next three,
00:06:36they don't, they don't do that. That's just, it's not feasible. So for me, I have to be stunned.
00:06:43And the only way I'm going to be stunned, right? Is, is knock off three, four in a row. Right.
00:06:48I mean,
00:06:49get, get back to 500, get back to over 500. Can I give you a scenario? Can I give you
00:06:54a scenario?
00:06:54Yeah, go ahead. That's not winning four in a row. Close. It's similar. Let's say they beat the
00:06:59Raiders, right? That's not impossible. I'm not even touching the chiefs. They're not beating the
00:07:05chiefs in our head. Can they beat the bills at home? Is it possible? I, I, I would put that
00:07:12at
00:07:13a very low percentage chance. Okay. Let's say it's a 10% chance. You give it, it's the NFL.
00:07:18It's not zero, right? No, no. We've seen, we've seen bad jets teams beat the bills at home before
00:07:262022, 2023. It's happened. Okay. So let's give them that one. Then they get the charges in LA who
00:07:32have not won a game. They could be completely off the rails, dysfunctional by the time the
00:07:37jets get there. Can they win that one? They can. They, I'm not saying they will, but they
00:07:41can at Miami. I know it's a long time since they won in Miami, but I think them losing here.
00:07:48Do they have the average says you should split that thing. So do they win that one? Are you
00:07:53back on board? Frankie, if they beat the Raiders, the bills, the charges, the dolphins,
00:08:00listen, man, in that scenario, I'd have to reconsider the team in general, but cause it's
00:08:08just my issue with this team is I don't know what, with this coach specifically, I just don't
00:08:14know where, you know, where's this thing going, where what's the end game here? You know, that's
00:08:21my whole issue. And I thought that we spoke about this over the summer guys, where I was
00:08:25not too keen on the Minka Fitzpatrick deal or to Mario Davis or even Gino Smith. Like,
00:08:32all right, yeah, I get that raises the floor, but I hate raising the floor just to raise the
00:08:37floor without having any sort of ceiling or any component of putting together a sustainable
00:08:43year over year kind of winter. I know those guys will teach the young guys things and whatnot.
00:08:49And winning is good. I get all that for the culture and all this, but I don't know, man,
00:08:54I just thought this thing was faulty to begin with. And I think it's just move after move
00:08:59cause it's from coaching decisions to roster construction. It's just nothing makes sense.
00:09:04And then we wonder why we're sitting here every week to have in the same kind of conversations.
00:09:08It's not a coincidence. Just nothing to me. It really makes sense in their whole process
00:09:12from, you know, Sala till now. It's just like, what are you doing? Like, I don't know. I've been
00:09:19asking my, and I'm negative a bit. So maybe I'm always thinking that everything is not right because
00:09:26I haven't been proven wrong much yet, but it really doesn't mean two plus two here is always equaling
00:09:31five. You know, it's just not rational decisions. There's no need to get to Mario Davis and Minka
00:09:39and pay Minka that money. When you're basically in a rebuild, you're getting vets that might have
00:09:44a few years left. What? So when you're ready to win, they're off the team and you're spending money
00:09:49just to what? Knock yourself out of a top five pick. Like, I don't, I just don't get, I just
00:09:55don't
00:09:55get the logic. I really don't. Sorry. It's making sense to me. Cause it made sense to me then.
00:10:00And now it's like, all right, this is not working.
00:10:05So I guess my retort to that would be, what did you want them to do? You want them to
00:10:09go in the
00:10:10season? Like, just, just, just lose. Like you don't, don't try to win. Like, cause they try. Yeah,
00:10:17you're right. Those moves raised the floor. They, those moves were made to try to get a seven and 10,
00:10:23eight and nine season. Maybe if everything goes swimmingly nine and eight season, right. That's
00:10:27nobody, nobody looked at that and go, oh, make a Fitzpatrick tomorrow. They're going to be 12
00:10:31and five with this team. But I think they had to do that. Like, everyone's going to get fired if
00:10:38they don't win games. Like, I understand why they made those moves. And I understand what you're
00:10:42saying. They're not like move the needle, win the Superbowl type of moves, but I just don't know
00:10:47what you wanted them to do because like, you can't just snap your fingers and go, let's, let's get all
00:10:53really good players in here. Like it is. Yeah, no, I agree. And I don't think that was the money
00:10:59part of it, Frankie. Like I never understand why you guys worry about the money. Like I don't think
00:11:04the money of those tied up in those guys is preventing them from doing other things. That's
00:11:08the only time I think money becomes a factor. Um, it doesn't feel like the jets are, were unable to
00:11:14make moves this winter because of the money. So I, yeah, I think the contracts are kind of crazy for
00:11:20those two guys. They're clearly overpaid, but I think, you know, in the end, it didn't really,
00:11:26it didn't really prevent them from doing anything. So I think you guys are bringing up fascinating
00:11:30points. And I want to, I want to say this too, about this jets team and what we're currently
00:11:33seeing from them. I think there's real talent on this team, maybe not on the defensive side of the
00:11:38ball. Like we would, like you would hope, cause you, there are a lot of veterans that are being
00:11:41paid on that side of the ball, but on offensive side, offensive side of the ball, I think there's a
00:11:46lot
00:11:46of talent and a lot of young talent that you can build around. And then you would hope that a
00:11:50future rookie first round pick gets the slot in there and gets a nice chance to grow with those
00:11:55weapons. But it doesn't feel like right now the jets are using those weapons to the best,
00:12:01best to their abilities. And they're not putting them in positions to succeed, which does fall on
00:12:05coaching. And it's an indictment on them. Um, I, I, I'm curious though, cause again,
00:12:12I saw the Reddit thread. I don't know if you saw this, you know, people are comparing this to
00:12:17Dan Campbell and the way he started year two with the lions where they were one in six and the
00:12:22jets
00:12:23are two and five. Dan Campbell went down the stretch from starting at one in six. He won
00:12:29one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight of the next 10 games to go nine and eight that season.
00:12:40Do the jets have that ability slash talent to even reel off the, that type of run down the rest
00:12:47of
00:12:47the season? Cause no, they do not. They do not have the schedule to do it. Right. Like I, I
00:12:53think
00:12:54if you look at that lions team and that's 2022, you're talking about, right? Correct. So think about
00:12:59the NFC North at that time, not the NFC North. We know now, right? That's Justin Fields on the bears.
00:13:05That's the end of Aaron Rogers in green Bay. Um, Minnesota is probably the end of Kirk cousins
00:13:11or around the end of Kirk cousins there. Right. Like that's the Vikings might've been good that
00:13:16year. I'm thinking that's probably the team, the jet, the giants beat. Yeah. They beat the Vikings
00:13:20when the Vikings were 10 and three. Yeah. Okay. So like, right. So they, that's probably their
00:13:26big marquee win. They beat the jets on that stretch. So they were in a down division as my point,
00:13:33uh, the jets are not in a down division. They have two teams who are probably going to be
00:13:38super bowl contenders. When we get to January with the Patriots and the bills, they have to play those
00:13:43teams three times still coming up. They've got the Broncos. They've got the Vikings. They've got the
00:13:48chiefs. Those are some of the best teams in football. The schedule just doesn't set up for a run. Like
00:13:54the lions had there, forget about like, and then you can talk about Jared Goff versus Geno Smith.
00:13:59You can talk about that stuff. So to me for the lions, I don't didn't watch the lions closely that
00:14:05year, but I'm going to guess things kind of fell into place for them schedule wise, health wise,
00:14:10and they were able to make that run. I get to, I know what we've talked, I've talked about that
00:14:15before with Aaron Glenn. Um, I just don't see that happening, uh, for this team to go on a run
00:14:21like
00:14:21that. I do think, you know, I don't think it's over. I feel like the sense this week after the
00:14:25Dolphins game was like season's over, it's done. There's 10 games left. Like they can still win
00:14:32four more games, five more games, maybe like they can still do that. Um, so I don't know if that
00:14:39changes anything for anybody, but I do, I don't think the season's over, but I don't think they're
00:14:43going to go out and run like the lions. Well, you just highlighted all their opponents. Where do you
00:14:47see four or five more wins this year? And if that's so go ahead, you still have the Raiders,
00:14:52right this week, you got the Dolphins, you got the Cardinals, you got the Chargers. Okay.
00:14:57Those are four teams that I feel like are in their weight class was the term I like to use.
00:15:01Right.
00:15:01Can we, are they going to win all four of those games? Probably not from what we've seen, like,
00:15:06but I'm saying it's possible. And then, then do you steal one? Do you beat the bills at home?
00:15:12You know, or do you get the Broncos at home off the buy? Um, you don't know. Sometimes in December
00:15:17teams look different or the Vikings playing a backup quarterback or the Broncos playing a backup
00:15:20quarterback. I'm not even going to talk about the bills the last game. Cause I wouldn't count that
00:15:24if it's who's the bills backup now, I don't even know, but it always, you always used to be Matt
00:15:29Barkley playing in that game. Trubisky. Yeah. I don't know if Trubisky's gone. If the bills are
00:15:34playing their backup quarterback at that game, like Josh Allen comes out and hands it off.
00:15:38Jets better not win that game. They better not win that game. We're not, we're not counting that.
00:15:41Okay. But Kyle Allen. Kyle Allen. Okay. So there's still, there's still,
00:15:48there are winnable games on the schedule. And I get the nothing feels winnable right now. Cause
00:15:53they just lost to a terrible Dolphins team. I get that, but things happen in the NFL.
00:15:58Yeah. I hear you. Things happen, but I also think there's the, and this is something I'll say to
00:16:02Frankie. And even if they win these games against the Raiders, the chargers, the Cardinals and the
00:16:07Dolphins, you're not taking anything away and saying, yeah, that's the coach. I want to continue to
00:16:11build this roster around with three first round picks next year. Three, two of them look like they
00:16:16could be potentially top five or even top 10 picks. Why, why would I believe in this coach and
00:16:21what he's shown thus far, Frankie to, to build around that? Yeah. The, the problem and cause the
00:16:29reason why I think it's tough for fans, right. To kind of buy back in and you know, this obviously,
00:16:34but because the same mistakes are being done on a weekly basis. And at some point you chalk it up
00:16:41to
00:16:41it's a coincidence, right? You don't have an interception. That's a coincidence. The ball
00:16:46didn't bounce your way. Well, right now we're last in the league in interceptions. We have one
00:16:50interception out of the entire league. So we had zero last year, which we thought was a coincidence,
00:16:55but we have one this year and that's 32nd in the league. Like what the hell is going on? So
00:17:00there's
00:17:00gotta be something there. Late game situations cause you know, two minute drills are still an issue.
00:17:06We saw it this past week. Again, you asked the question, I believe to Glenn, right? That was
00:17:12your question about using the timeouts. Uh, I don't think I asked it someday. I don't,
00:17:17I don't remember. Rich said you did. That's why I thought you did it. Yeah. It's not. It's the,
00:17:22yeah, I may have it. It wasn't, that wasn't the, you know, Walter Cronkite moment. Anybody would
00:17:26ask. Yeah. Like, look, I think, I think I wrote this the other day, the path for Iron
00:17:32Glenn, right? Like, cause yeah. And I'm not saying this is going to happen to be clear.
00:17:37I'm saying if you're looking for why you have reasons to think this could turn around, I'm
00:17:43kind of like, he can't have any more embarrassments. Okay. And then when I talk, the embarrassments
00:17:48are what you're talking about, Frankie, they got to start getting interceptions. They got
00:17:51to end that, that conversation. They can't lose a game. Like they lost Sunday to the dolphins.
00:17:56They can't have a game like they did against the bears where they team ran 89 plays on them.
00:17:59And those are embarrassments. They need to be past that. He needs to figure out the end
00:18:03of half management. There can't be, this, this can't be a story every freaking week that
00:18:08you box the end of the first half. Like you just can't be like, you got to figure that
00:18:11stuff out. Um, they got to stay out and win some AFC East games. They got to beat the
00:18:16dolphins. They got to be either the bills or the Patriots at home. When, when, give me two
00:18:21AFC East wins, they got to surprise us, which is, we just talked about when, when a game
00:18:26a winning, they have not since, since 2023, since they beat the Eagles in 23, that way
00:18:31we had, Oh my God, I can't believe they won this game. Okay. Figure out the Garrett
00:18:35Wilson thing, get them the goddamn ball already. Like, I don't understand why this is still
00:18:39being, we're still talking about this. Uh, and then the young players have to keep looking
00:18:44good. That's a lot to happen, but if all that happens, but it has to happen for him to
00:18:51make a case at the end of December to Woody Johnson and say, Hey, look, I turned it around
00:18:56mid season. You know, I think I'm better at the time management thing, but it's a lot
00:19:01like it is a, it is, he is in a deep, deep, deep hole at this point to climb out
00:19:07of.
00:19:08And Ryan, what to, to what cause is saying is, is correct. I look at it as like, there's
00:19:13two scales here and he has his scale of things that have gone wrong. That's piling up. You
00:19:19have to, you have to balance it with, with things like cause just said. So hypothetically,
00:19:23if you were to do those things, then you start balancing things a bit in your favor. But
00:19:27the other thing cause and ride the last thing I'll say that that's mind boggling short yardage
00:19:33is, is just completely been butchered in important situations, man. It's like, you know,
00:19:39the Andrew Beck thing we know. And that's the drive that Garrett really got mad at. And
00:19:44cause I believe you were right. He was shouting towards Seth Ryan more than it was directed
00:19:49at Gino. Um, I agree with you. I think he was shouting at Seth Ryan to shout at Frank
00:19:53Reich. Shout at Gino. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. So like if people are like, why is he shouting
00:19:58at Seth Ryan? I think Seth Ryan is the link from Frank Reich to the offensive players. So
00:20:03I think I got to give, I'm guessing Garrett's yelling, you know, what the hell are we doing
00:20:07at the one yard line with those plays? Yeah. Or on third down, just throw me the ball,
00:20:11man. Like throw it up to me. Like not long developing play action in the red zone type
00:20:16of place where again, I think this is what happens when you hire a offensive coordinator
00:20:22who is a little bit antiquated. This is not the current NFL that he is. He is used to
00:20:27in my opinion. And I know you're going to shake your head cause, but it's the truth. It
00:20:30is the truth. There's a reason I'm with you. I'm with you on something like the motion
00:20:34thing. I'm with you a hundred percent. He's antiquated on the motion thing to me, throwing
00:20:39the ball up to your best receiver. It's not that in the red zone. It's not that we did
00:20:43that in 1991 at Jefferson high school. Like that's football. That's since the forward pass
00:20:49has been invented. The offensive coordinator has known, Hey, that guy's my best player.
00:20:55Okay. If I throw the ball up to him, we're probably going to score a touchdown. Like that's
00:20:59not antiquated, right? That's just, I hear you. But what is it, but what is antiquated
00:21:03is not having a quarterback sneak slash tight end sneak in today's NFL on short yardage situations,
00:21:10because you have a guy like Jelani Woods, who is a monstrous human being. If you can teach
00:21:16him to snap the ball to himself, he can run forward for a first down. I've seen a lot of
00:21:21teams be able to build those packages into their offense. Short yardage should not be an
00:21:26issue for this team. And yet it is. That is on the offensive coordinator. That is on Seth
00:21:30Ryan as well to bring that part of the game and have it as a part of your game plan
00:21:34in
00:21:35terms of yes, throwing to your best player. Shouldn't even be a question. That's not something
00:21:39that's, that's antiquated, but I will say this in terms of how he is developing the offense.
00:21:46I think it's good for moving the ball between the twenties. When you get to the red zone in
00:21:51those short yardage situations, that's where your creativity really has to come in there.
00:21:55You have to be able to develop a play. That's going to confuse the defense. That's going to
00:22:00create the mismatches that you need in the red zone. And I just think guys, they have too many
00:22:04pieces right now for us to be like, why is this so frustrating when the jets can get into the
00:22:08red
00:22:09zone or when they get into short yardage, they can't, they can't score and they can't convert.
00:22:13And that that's the ultimate indictment there. I thought they did better in short yards before
00:22:18that goal line situation, right? They had the, remember the Gino rollout one. I can't remember what
00:22:23quarter it was. That was like a, that was, that was a short yardage situation. I thought that was
00:22:28good. They did better than they did new England. That was a Mason Taylor. Remember?
00:22:32Mason Taylor, yeah. It was like a little rollout. And he missed Kenyon Sadiq for the long touchdown
00:22:37actually on that same point. I mean, he wasn't even looking there. He wasn't even looking there.
00:22:41Which is a, which is a common theme, by the way. With like the, the idea, I get the idea,
00:22:46the sneak and the tush push or the, you know, what's the weakness of the jets offensive line?
00:22:51It's the interior of the offensive line. I agree. I think that's an issue guys. I think when they
00:22:56look at it, I don't think they trust those three guys to be able to get a push for, for
00:23:01whether
00:23:01it's Gino, whether it's woods, I think. So I don't think it's just corner. I think it's roster
00:23:05construction here too. I think that's the weakness, probably the weakness of the entire offense is
00:23:10the middle of the offensive line. The other thing to me, and again, this is simplistic. I feel like
00:23:16I've never seen anyone stop the play action to the tight end from the goal line. Right? Like
00:23:22I say that all the time. You do the hard play action and you hit the goal, you hit the,
00:23:25you hit
00:23:26him going to the pylon, you hit the pylon. Like I've seen that play work 8,000 times. I don't
00:23:32know.
00:23:32I would do that at the one yard line. Like I said that to Ryan, Kaz, when we were doing
00:23:38our,
00:23:38remember Ryan, when we were doing the live watch party, I go, this is a perfect opportunity to call
00:23:43that. And they just ended up all these tight ends. You love all your tight ends, right?
00:23:47They got five totally cause and the other thing I'll say too, is how they're whether this, and
00:23:54this is a combination, I think on both Gino and Frank Reich. If you watch the film on Garrett
00:24:01Wilson, all 25 snaps and routes that he ran this past week, he's not the first and he's not even
00:24:06the second read on a lot of these play plays for the passing attack. That's concerning because that
00:24:12is coaching, basically taking him out of the game plan. And that's why I call BS on Aaron
00:24:17Glenn when he's speaking to you guys and you guys ask him, why aren't you getting the ball
00:24:20to Garrett Wilson? Well, defenses are taking him away. I'm calling BS on that because that's
00:24:25not the truth.
00:24:26My BS on that is I watched Seattle the other night, right? And JSN got the ball. How many
00:24:33times did JSN catch the ball? Everybody from the defensive coordinator on the other sideline
00:24:38to us sitting on our couch knows it's going to JSN and they can't stop it. And you watch
00:24:43other, other teams. I think how many, I haven't watched a lot of Giants games, but I've been
00:24:48reading that Malik neighbors is getting targeted a ton, right? Like these guys are great wide
00:24:52receivers. They're getting targeted a ton. You can't tell me that those defenses aren't
00:24:57rolling coverage to JSN. Every time they play, they find a way. And I do think Frank Reich
00:25:02schemed Omar Cooper open. Yeah. Yes. Right? Like there's a touchdown when Cooper lined up
00:25:06in the backfield. Do that with Garrett Wilson. Why can't you do it with him?
00:25:09No, Garrett. Like I said, this is somebody the other day inside the Jets. I'm like the
00:25:12first play of the game bubble screen to Garrett. Yes. Like getting the ball. Cause I'm going
00:25:17to, I'm going to say this. I was looking a bit into this exact conversation and kind of
00:25:22going into a little bit of a deep dive. Do you know what Seattle does that we don't do
00:25:26at all to get JSN the ball? They don't target him right off the bat. Quarterback
00:25:31says hike. He's not looking at JSN. It's they go through ghost reads to then
00:25:36ultimately throw to JSN a ball at a spot. Regardless, like Darnold's like, I'm
00:25:42going to go one, two, knowing I'm going to JSN three, no matter what. When I heard
00:25:46Garrett Wilson in the off season, talk about this Frank Reich offense and how he
00:25:51likes that he's going to be targeted in a more traditional sense. Do you guys
00:25:56remember that? I remember that. Yeah. The lights went off for me. Like, boy, I think
00:26:01they're going to do something like, you know, the, you know, the Texans used to do
00:26:05with Andre Johnson. Like just look at him off, read one, wait, wait, wait. And then
00:26:09just try to get him the ball. That's what they're doing. Like they're running that
00:26:14kind of offense and cause it's not, it's not conducive anymore. Cause I think Gino
00:26:19says hike, they have the safety there. He's looking at Garrett and then he waits.
00:26:24That's why Omar Cooper jr is doing well because Gino's got to be forced off. The
00:26:29safety's probably, you know, shine towards or, or, or, or playing more towards Garrett's
00:26:35side. And then you have openings. I saw the other day, by the way, the San Francisco
00:26:3949ers, they have Kittle running these long, you know, crossing routes or post
00:26:44corners. Brock Purdy just instantly is going to Mike Evans. Regardless, Kittle gets the
00:26:50safety out. Mike Evans is right there across the middle of the field, but they
00:26:54know they're going to Evans, but they're not targeting him right away. If that makes
00:26:58sense. I was looking into it. Cause I, I agree. It's how, it's how you set up your
00:27:03other plays, Frankie. And I think you're hitting something here that again, you
00:27:07have to question. I think the jets right now, they're, they are really, really good
00:27:11at moving the ball between the twenties. But for some reason, again, I think the
00:27:14conversion, the red zone, and then not targeting your number one wide receiver who, if
00:27:19you pay attention to some of the analytics and metrics, ESPN has him as the
00:27:22third highest grade in terms of open score and open rating. If you want to
00:27:26believe in a stat like that, that is where he's currently right behind JSN and
00:27:30Mike Evans, who we just talked about. So get Garrett Wilson, the ball, like
00:27:34cause said, and then I want to transition now fellas into the comments from
00:27:38Garrett Wilson yesterday cause, because the trade deadline is a couple of weeks
00:27:41away. Now we just saw Jeffrey Simmons get dealt for two first round picks and a
00:27:45monster deal. Garrett Wilson point blank said to you guys yesterday,
00:27:49no, I don't want to request a trade from the jets, but from your sense in
00:27:53talking to him yesterday, how do you read this whole situation right now?
00:27:57Well, wait, wait, wait, follow it up. I like being here, but do I like it more
00:28:01than winning now? I don't, but look, I think I told him he's like, I don't
00:28:06believe you. Garrett wants to win here, right? Like he wants to win here. I
00:28:14think Garrett is like a lot of you right now. And he's looking at it and
00:28:17going, when are we going to win? Like, how are we going to win? How is this
00:28:21going to turn around? And I think for Garrett, you got to start like going, am
00:28:27I wasting my entire career? Like how many years does Garrett have left in his
00:28:32career? Five, six, seven, you know, like in this prime, he's been playing since
00:28:362022. Like most receivers, you have a 10 year career. That's pretty good. Like, so
00:28:43at some point, Garrett's got to be thinking a little bit about that is like, am I going
00:28:47to spend my entire career here and not get into the playoffs? And you get it. I think
00:28:51you can understand where he's coming from. I don't think he has it in him to go. I want
00:28:55to be traded. I just don't. Maybe he gets to that point some, someday, but Garrett, I
00:29:01think wants to be successful here. He wants you guys to love him. And he's, but
00:29:06he's, you know, it's been two weeks now. He's been visibly, visibly frustrated with
00:29:11what's going on. And you understand why. I don't think you blame the guy. So do I
00:29:17think he's going to get traded, Ryan? No, I do not think he's going to get traded. Do
00:29:21I think Garrett Wilson is going to be a lifetime jet? It doesn't feel that way. So
00:29:25like, is that next year? Is it the year after? Is it's like, I don't know. I just, I just
00:29:30feel like this will come to a head at some point. I don't think we're close to it right
00:29:33now, but if this thing doesn't turn around, like he's going to be playing with a rookie
00:29:37quarterback next year. How is that going to go well? Like maybe they get lucky and they
00:29:41get a CJ Stroud situation or a Jaden Daniel situation where the guy comes in and hits the
00:29:46ground running. But typically, you know, it takes a little more time than that for, for
00:29:51rookie quarterbacks to have success. Go ahead, Frankie. Yeah. Do you see that happening this
00:29:57year potentially if they keep losing? Because I'll say this, there is one point that the
00:30:02anti-tankers say that I sort of agree with to a degree. The more you lose, the more, you
00:30:09know, discontent you have with, with guys, you know, like Garrett Wilson, the young guys,
00:30:14does that really matter? I think specifically with Garrett more than anything. Yeah. Right.
00:30:19Like we've seen it like Jamal Adams, Quinton Williams, like guys have Jamal was about money
00:30:24as well. Um, you know, Jamal losing war on him a lot. I think he was frustrated. Didn't
00:30:30see the direction of the team. I think Quinton last year absolutely was in that boat. Um,
00:30:35so yeah, it's, it's not good. Um, it's not going to happen this year, Frankie, cause I think
00:30:41we've got 10 days or whatever, or, you know, two, I guess it's a little under two weeks
00:30:46now. Um, so I don't see that happening right now. And I think if you're the jets, you feel
00:30:52like you're pretty well positioned for next year that when you get that quarterback here,
00:30:56he's got a good offense around him and Garrett's a big part of that. Like, yeah, I think you're
00:31:00excited about what Omar Cooper's doing. Omar Cooper's not number one receiver right now.
00:31:05I don't think you're looking at him as that. So, but when you think about what this organization
00:31:10did with Sam Donald and Zach Wilson, they were put into very difficult situations because
00:31:14of the team around them, you feel pretty good outside of the coaching staff right now about
00:31:19what's going to be around this quarterback next year with, you've got two good running
00:31:23backs. If you have Garrett, you've got three potentially good receivers of AD Mitchell.
00:31:28You know, he's had a weird season. Can he get going? You've got two good tight ends. They
00:31:33got to do some work on the interior offensive line, but you have two tackles that you believe
00:31:37in. So he's that quarterback is going to come into a pretty good structure.
00:31:44Losing Garrett would mess with that in my opinion.
00:31:46And, and I don't think anyone wants, no one here as a jets fan wants to see Garrett Wilson
00:31:51go. Like, I think you're silly if you're, if you're saying, ah, get rid of him and get
00:31:54all the, like, it's ridiculous. It's a ridiculous sentiment. I think like cause is saying, and I
00:32:00believe in, in, in what Garrett's saying too, is I want to win here. And, and that's someone
00:32:05I'd want to keep in that locker room. Like that's someone I want to get behind. And I
00:32:10think that's something that Woody Johnson, like he would have to have serious, like,
00:32:14Whoa, you guys want to trade Garrett? Like Mouji approached him like, Hey, this team
00:32:18called and they gave us two, they're going to give us two first round picks. And he's
00:32:21like, hold on. You want to trade our star number one wide receiver because someone's
00:32:26giving us a ridiculous package. And don't we want to build around someone like that?
00:32:30Like that's where I get frustrated. And like this team is like you said, cause I feel like
00:32:36on, especially on offense, we're missing the key component, which is the quarterback in
00:32:39my opinion, and probably a better offensive coordinator slash maybe offensive minded head
00:32:44coach. Um, but it's, it's, it, you could see it. You could see somewhat of the light through
00:32:50the, through the, the dark tunnel here. Um, let's talk about Aaron Glenn and the game management.
00:32:56Cause I thought he had some interesting comments as well, cause this week about if, and this
00:33:00is something we had highlighted plenty of times on this show. And I thought it was nice
00:33:04that he actually talked about, or he got asked about it too, about does it become distracting
00:33:09or does it become a challenge when you're calling the defensive plays and you're trying to also
00:33:14manage these end of half and end of game situations, the two minute drill. And I I'm curious,
00:33:21again, I want to hear what you have to say about what he had to say about it.
00:33:26Yeah. I mean, I thought it was interesting that he acknowledged that it is tough, but he
00:33:30wasn't using it as an excuse. Uh, but I definitely think it's hard. Right. And I think, you know,
00:33:35I had someone tell me the other day that a head coach told them once that when the four
00:33:39minute mark hit, they were kind of like, Oh shoot, Oh shoot. I gotta start. I gotta get
00:33:43off my play sheet and kind of manage the game. And I think that's tricky to do. I think it's
00:33:48tricky balancing all these things. Um, that being said, it's the job of the head coach and
00:33:54he does have a support system around him. That's why he has, that's why he hired Duker,
00:33:58right? He hired Duker cause that's a guy he trusts. And I think Duker can help him in
00:34:03those situations when he's managing the game. Duker can be making adjustments with the team.
00:34:08Um, that's why he hired John Berger as his game management guy, you know, so.
00:34:13But is he listening to John Berger cause though? Is he listening? I don't know. Yeah. I don't
00:34:18know. I mean, I have, I find it hard to believe that John Berger is making all these decisions
00:34:22that, that don't look smart. Like his job is game management. We all kind of know what the sheet
00:34:27says. Right. So if there was one or two instances where Glenn went the other way, go, okay, he's
00:34:33going with his gut, but it feels like every week he's doing something that doesn't make
00:34:37sense. And I think the timeout thing wasn't that hard the other day to me. Um, if you
00:34:43didn't want to take it when Willis ran to the sideline and slid, then you take it on the
00:34:49next run. Like you can start taking timeouts there, but you have to do that to get the
00:34:53ball back. That's pretty easy game management. Um, but yeah, I think, I think he recognizes
00:35:01it's an issue, right? And he's not being defensive about it. I'll give him that he is
00:35:06acknowledging stuff, but it's just amazing to me that we're talking about this every
00:35:11single week. It's crazy. Like, yeah, it feels like we'll remember Herm Edwards had
00:35:16this and then Herm hired Dick Curl, who was my older guy called him father. They called
00:35:21him father time because he was an older guy to help him with it. He was one of the first
00:35:26game management people I can remember, but yeah, he's got to figure this out. He's, this
00:35:31is 25 games will be this Sunday, right? I mean, it's, it's, it's, and every kid who
00:35:38plays Madden kind of figures this time management stuff. So that's the problem
00:35:42everyone's facing right now. I do think guys, I've always had this theory about
00:35:46coaches. They don't watch games like you and me. Yeah. They watch all 22 all week
00:35:52alone and all 22 doesn't have any time management stuff in it. It's like, so they're
00:35:58not programmed. Like we are like, we're watching so many games. We know that stuff. We, you
00:36:02know, guys play Madden or whatever. It's, it's a little different for coaches, I think.
00:36:07And, and I think it's a very big challenge when you go from a coordinator to head coach
00:36:11to do that, but he's 25 games in at this point, he's got to figure this out.
00:36:15And I think Frankie, I'm going to go to your, hear about this. When you're talking about
00:36:20defensive minded head coach, right. And he is calling the defensive plays defense.
00:36:24They are, they are trying to be aggressive, but they're also reacting to a lot of what's
00:36:29happening and like, how do we adjust and how do we stop whatever's about to happen from the
00:36:33offensive personnel, the, the, the adjustments they're making offensive minded head coaches
00:36:39and offensive coordinators. They know the situation no matter what, what's my down to
00:36:43distance is second in three. All right. I have a second down package. I'm ready to rock and roll
00:36:47with this play call. It's, it's a different mindset. And I just wonder if there's, there's an
00:36:52element there of an offensive minded head coach knows that the game management more than what
00:36:57a defensive minded head coach would know. I mean, offensively, absolutely. That's for certain
00:37:03within the two minutes of each half for sure. Four minutes, whatever. I think the mentality though,
00:37:09now is different in the NFL with these offensive guys in terms of what they want to do defensively,
00:37:16Uber aggressive, get the ball back. Even if they score, it's fine. Cause we're going to come
00:37:21right down and score Jacksonville and Chicago are perfect examples of that. They force a lot of
00:37:25turnovers. Some games, they give up a lot of yards and points, but they come right back down. I think
00:37:30Glenn and even Reich, I'm sure he confides in, in this whole kind of approach. Generally speaking,
00:37:37I think they look at it in a more of an old school way, control the clock, limit the turnovers
00:37:43on
00:37:43offense. Let your defense, you know, dictate the pace of the game. I don't like that anymore.
00:37:50That was cool. Like, or worked better 20 years ago. Now, some teams do it still Seattle. Sometimes,
00:37:58especially last year, tried, tried to do that a little bit with, with McDonald and that run game.
00:38:04When they had Kenneth Walker, you were able to control things and be a little bit more patient
00:38:07in approach. But I think for this offense cause and rise specifically with these pieces,
00:38:13you got to look into a guy. That's going to think that way. Fast pace. Yeah. You have the weapons.
00:38:19Here's the problem. Sadiq, Cooper, you know, Garrett, et cetera. Brees, Braylon. Sorry. We have a bunch of guys.
00:38:25Here's the problem, Frankie. Here's the problem. Yeah. In my eyes. If Aaron Glenn came out after the game
00:38:32and said what you just said, we wanted to control the clock. We wanted to run. I think people could
00:38:38live
00:38:38with it. What he said was we were going to get the ball back. Like, no, you weren't. Unless you
00:38:45took the
00:38:45time out. No, you weren't like, there's no cheap. True. Like we're going to get the ball back with
00:38:51two seconds. Yeah. If, if a coach has an explanation that you don't agree with, you can say, I don't
00:38:58agree with that, but I understand what he was thinking. And I think Sala and Gase, they were
00:39:04like that. Like they, they could explain their thinking and you didn't always agree with what
00:39:07they, their decisions they made, but they, you didn't feel like they weren't sure about
00:39:13what they were doing. I think with Aaron Glenn right now, it feels like is, is he convicted
00:39:18in what he's doing at the end of the half? Cause he even said, maybe I should have taken
00:39:21a timeout. It's like, no, no way, man. Like, don't say that. Like you didn't take the timeouts.
00:39:27You got to come up with that podium and go like, this is why I didn't take the timeouts guys.
00:39:31I knew we were getting the ball back. I didn't, I wanted to regroup. We didn't have a good
00:39:35first half. Didn't like the flow of the game. I wanted to get my guys in the locker
00:39:39room. I get it. I get that the chart says, take the timeouts. My gut told me my team needed
00:39:45to get in that locker room, regroup. And we were going to score when we came out of
00:39:48the locker room. Perfect answer. It wouldn't even be a story. You guys are like, you guys
00:39:52are okay. I don't agree with it. I get it. We don't like it, but yes, move on. You know
00:39:56your team better than I do. He's not answering questions like that. And he just compounds it
00:40:03with, with, with just being kind of wishy-washy is how I would describe it.
00:40:09And, uh, it's, it's, it's very different than how he had started his Jets tenure when
00:40:13he came out speaking to you guys, where he was very matter of fact, like where the freaking
00:40:17New York Jets were built for this crap. And, you know, like, uh, he was very aggressive
00:40:22and combative and that's changed because he got advice that, Hey, you need to be better
00:40:27to the media speaking to them.
00:40:29He also got punched in the face, right? He lost a lot of games, right? I know. And
00:40:34that's, everyone's got a plan until you get punched in the face. Right. And I'm not asking
00:40:38to go back to that, that bowl. I'm not asking to go back to that, that way either, but I
00:40:42agree with you. You have to be convinced. You have to have conviction in what you believe
00:40:45and what you're doing on the Dan Campbell, but, and exactly. Right. And Dan Campbell the
00:40:50other day, I don't think anyone thought what he was doing was the right thing, but he came
00:40:54out and said, this is why we did it. This is why I made the decision. And I don't regret
00:40:57it
00:40:57one bit. I knew like, and it's like, okay, all right. You can kind of respect that, but
00:41:02he's got to, yeah, he's, he's scuffling right now.
00:41:07Kaz, the Jets are coming in a little beat up. Uh, Tavondre Sweat did not practice yesterday.
00:41:11David Bailey didn't practice with a groin. Uh, Joseph Esai still week to week. Max Mitchell's
00:41:15in concussion protocol. Demario Davis and Harrison Phillips at rest days. Brees Hall, uh, we,
00:41:20do you expect him to come back? Talk to me about the injuries that the Jets are coming
00:41:24in versus Raiders matchup. Yeah. Look, I thought Brees was close last week. I was, I thought
00:41:28watching him run last Thursday, he looked good. I think they probably just said, let's give it
00:41:33another week to be just to be safe, you know, and not, so I do think he'll be back. I
00:41:37think,
00:41:38uh, I think Brandon Allen will be fine. Like they, they both, I was watching them yesterday
00:41:42in practice. They're both moving. Okay. I think you need to see Brees have a full practice. Like
00:41:47he's got to get either today or tomorrow, see if he has a full practice, then you'll feel really
00:41:52good about it to laundry sweat. That injury did not look good. They ruled him out really
00:41:56quick within the injury. I'm thinking a guy that size with a leg injury, it's going to
00:42:00be a while. Uh, so we'll, I don't think you're going to see him for a, for a bit here.
00:42:05Joseph
00:42:06Esai, you don't see him for a while. Um, was there anyone else really quick? Oh, is it going
00:42:12to be out the rest of the year? I don't think so, but it's a, it's an ankle. What's his
00:42:17injury?
00:42:18It's a sprained ankle. That was the injury at the beginning of the season. He hurt his
00:42:22ankle against, uh, the Browns. Got it. So yeah, it was a different injury. He hurt his
00:42:27ankle in that game. So yeah, I don't know. I mean, I've seen him. He's running on the
00:42:31side field. He looks like he's kind of going to come back. Like you don't do that stuff
00:42:35if you're not coming back. Um, so I think he'll be back at some point. He's got to have a
00:42:42full
00:42:43practice. Like, I think you're, I think that's what you're looking for is he practicing fully
00:42:46Thursday or Friday. Then you feel good about him coming back. I put him kind of in the breeze
00:42:50category. It felt like they were giving him an extra week. He was close to giving him an extra
00:42:54week. So yeah, they should get some guys back this week. David Bailey's one to watch. Yeah. I
00:42:59don't know. I mean, he didn't pray. He wasn't out in the field at all yesterday. He wasn't doing
00:43:02anything on the side. So I think that's one you got to see. Does he, is he not practicing at
00:43:07all
00:43:07again? Thursday. Now you're, you're unlikely to play if you're not practicing Thursday too.
00:43:12Where did he sustain that injury cause? Was that a game? Glenn said he finished the game
00:43:16and then he came out of the game and he felt the groin injury. I think he said Monday he
00:43:20came in and said it was bothering him. So, um, and if Brees comes back, I had talked about
00:43:25it with you on Monday. How does this work with the roles? Braylon Allen's been playing
00:43:30really well the last couple of weeks. That's the next one you feel coming a mile away guys,
00:43:35right? Like that's going to be a story. Oh, they're not giving this kind of ball.
00:43:39They're not giving this kind of ball. I guess that's, that's, you can, I wish I could bet
00:43:44money on that storyline. Yeah. I don't know. Right. It's going to be tricky. I think it's
00:43:48going to be tricky. Can they get them both on the field at the same time? I mean, we talked
00:43:52about
00:43:52the other day, I haven't really been impressed with Wright's personnel package management. I think
00:43:56that's part of the issue too, is you see like, why is Tim Patrick the only wide receiver on the
00:44:02field? Like if you're going to have one wide receiver on the field, why is it Tim Patrick?
00:44:05Um, the, the tight end usage has been strange to me a little bit. Sadiq got to get Sadiq more
00:44:12involved and now you're going to have two running backs. So it complicates facts. It can, and the
00:44:17complicate things more with personnel usage. Do you have pony packages with both of them in,
00:44:22but now who are you taking off the field? Right. If you're doing that. So it's going to be
00:44:26fascinating to watch. Um, cause Braylon Allen has definitely earned a bigger role.
00:44:32No doubt. Ryan, I have a solution. I have a solution for Brees Hall. It's simple,
00:44:36simple solution for Brees Hall and the team change positions, become a wide receiver. We need a slot
00:44:43wide receiver and wide receivers get paid more money too. Right. Maybe, maybe his next extension
00:44:48he'll get, he'll, he'll make some more money. Seriously, become a slot wide receiver right
00:44:52underneath. You know, he can run those crossing routes. No, no, no, no. You're, you're, you're not
00:44:58entertained. No, I think the Detroit lions were very, they were able to handle with Ben Johnson,
00:45:05with David Montgomery and Jameer Gibbs. There's no excuses here for Frank Reich, manage your
00:45:10personnel the right way. Call your plays on your play sheet for guys who you think are put in the
00:45:15best position. If you're going to run the ball hard and short yardage and also like sustain some
00:45:20drives, give it to Braylon Allen. And then Brees Hall is your belt. It can be your bell cow and
00:45:24other
00:45:24spots where if I'm third down, he's your dump off guy to take advantage of that too, because I think
00:45:29there's really some special abilities for both of these players. The Jets offense should be better
00:45:35with Brees added to it. And in addition to what Braylon Allen's given you, speaking of running backs,
00:45:40Ashton Jenty decided to give some huge bulletin board material for the Jets this week. Brian,
00:45:46let's play that sound. Can I think about the Jets defense that you like see as opportunity for
00:45:52yourself to get back on the track to like 100? Yeah, I think we can definitely get the run game
00:46:00going, you know, get back on track and, you know, just really get after these guys. A couple guys out
00:46:08there that don't really want to tackle, but I'm going to say names. I mean, that's the ultimate
00:46:15indictment on this Jets defense. If you see that clip, which I'm sure they all have on social media,
00:46:20you got to be sharing that clip and saying, guys, we cannot let this guy go off this week
00:46:25in terms of where the Jets right now are in rush defense. They give up the ninth most rushing yards
00:46:31from the line of scrimmage on the year. They've given up Andrew 94 yards on the ground. And then if
00:46:36you
00:46:36want to go into yards after contact, because you're saying, quote unquote, the Jets don't like,
00:46:41you know, tackling, this is always a good stat, in my opinion, for in terms of the Jets and where
00:46:46they stand and giving up the most rushing yards after contact. It's not true. They're actually 26th
00:46:52in the NFL. They've only given up 172 rush yards after contact. So that is the actually the six lowest
00:47:00in the NFL in terms of giving up rush yards after contact. Cause why would Ashton Gentry give that
00:47:06type of material to a Jets team that's reeling right now? And no idea. And their run game has
00:47:11been terrible for the Raiders. So yeah, one of the worst in football. I thought the Jets were
00:47:17really good tackling for the first part of the season. I think the last few weeks it's been
00:47:21lacking like the Patriots and Dolphins. I don't think it's been great, but overall, I think they've
00:47:25been very good. Um, yeah. I mean, do people still have bulletin boards? I don't know, but that that's
00:47:30bulletin board material. I don't understand it. Um, you know, it's, I'm sure the Jets are all
00:47:36talking about it and it's going to look, should light a fire under them. I know I haven't seen
00:47:42any effort issues. I've seen some just bad tackling in the last couple of weeks, but I don't think it's
00:47:47because of anyone's afraid of tackling. Frankie, I don't, I don't, I haven't seen bad tackling, but
00:47:51I've seen just bad play in terms of guys being bullied up front on. And that really comes from
00:47:58the interior of this, this defensive line. When sweat went down, it got really bad. When Juwan
00:48:03Briggs came in that game, uh, he got manhandled on that, on that defensive line. And I will say
00:48:09this to Mario Davis is not getting any younger and he is looks a step behind and he gets swallowed
00:48:15up in on these interior rushes. Sometimes I don't know, Frankie, I don't like where this
00:48:21Jets rush defense is right now. Yeah. You know, when it comes to stopping the run, you need a
00:48:28bunch of different variables, but the one thing that the Jets definitely need is somebody to kind
00:48:33of deliver a hard hit, man. Like, remember when we had Quincy here, he did, he would just hit
00:48:38somebody. Yeah. He, he would get the guys going. He'd get you juiced up a bit. You want somebody on
00:48:44the opposing side that has a back and backs have spoken about this. Remember Curtis used to speak about
00:48:48this too. You're always worried about that safety flying up, just nailing you or that linebacker.
00:48:53That's just going to make you think twice about running in a gap again, or bouncing it outside
00:48:57to a corner that can, you know, knock your head off. The Jets really don't have anyone on their
00:49:03defense that is imposing their will on the offensive guys. And, and, and you don't see hard
00:49:09hits. Have we seen really any hard hits this year? Bailey had a nice play last week.
00:49:12It's got to cost one or two, a few, but it's got to be more, right?
00:49:17Yeah. Brownlee plays like that, but there's just other issues. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
00:49:23Glenn hates Brownlee. It seems like, or they have a love hate relationship. He loves them
00:49:28one week and can't stand on the next, but yeah. Right. I just think Jente's not scared
00:49:32of this Jets defense and why should he, he shouldn't be scared. There's no one out there
00:49:36that again, puts fear in your eyes. Why was Ray Lewis as good as he was? Not only was he
00:49:42able to make a lot of plays, but he put fear in opposing running backs and, and, and
00:49:47offenses, you know, head man. And we don't have anyone that does that. And I
00:49:51think that's really where his comments are coming from, because if you look at
00:49:54all the metrics and tackling metrics, et cetera, the Jets aren't even close to
00:49:58being one of the worst tackling or, you know, rush defenses in football. Actually
00:50:02the team he plays on has a bad tackling, you know, rush defense.
00:50:06The Raiders have given up the second most rush yards all season long, right behind
00:50:10the, behind the Cowboys all year. So yeah, the Jets ground, ground attack
00:50:14should have a field day, especially Braylon Allen versus this right
00:50:16Raiders defense, but cause I, I, again, the film doesn't lie. I've seen
00:50:21Demario Davis struggle against the run. Bless you. I've seen Harrison Phillips
00:50:25get dominated up as well. Jawan Briggs, I will not be playing him really much
00:50:29in this upcoming week. How do the Jets have to play him?
00:50:33Who are you playing? Daryl Jackson Jr. Actually looked pretty solid. I
00:50:40they're, they're light now with, you know, I don't think Sweat's going to play
00:50:43obviously on Yamada is out. So like, you're, you're starting to get down the
00:50:46depth chart. Like they're going to have to bring some guys out to practice
00:50:49squad. You know, Peyton page will probably be active. Uh, you know, they
00:50:53signed somebody on Tuesday. Maybe he's active. Like you have to play Briggs.
00:50:57Like you don't have much choice right now. It's not pretty.
00:51:01On Yamada retired, Ryan. Did you hear he's retiring? No, I'm kidding.
00:51:06That's a terrible joke. Well, where is on Yamada? We always say he's out, but
00:51:11nobody has any update on why he's out. Nobody knows where he is. He had surgery.
00:51:15He's not coming back anytime soon. Okay. All right.
00:51:19Kaz had lunch with him. Sorry. I saw him come out of the cafeteria yesterday.
00:51:23I think there's, there's some reality to the situation right now with the Jets
00:51:27and the rush defending the run. They have struggled the last couple of weeks.
00:51:30Like you said, Kaz, the film does not lie though. They have to have more effort.
00:51:33I think total as a team. Uh, and I think Aaron Glenn has to get these guys ready to
00:51:37rock and roll, especially against Ashton Gentry talking that kind of trash against
00:51:41them. Like that's, that's a point. Ashton Gentry has not been running the ball well
00:51:45this year, by the way. I completely agree. He's averaging like under three yards a
00:51:48carry or something. I know I haven't been fantasy, unfortunately. Take offense to it
00:51:52though. Show some effort. Show some, like this is not okay. Did I see a breakdown from
00:51:58you on David Bailey's run defense? Well, that became a big topic yesterday on Jets.
00:52:03media landscape, uh, where I guess I should say fan media landscape. Uh, there's some
00:52:08certain, certain content creators who think David Bailey's a bust already and that he'll
00:52:11never be a, uh, a, a good edge player because he doesn't set the edge versus the run. He
00:52:16struggled yesterday. He was the worst, worst graded run defender this past weekend for the
00:52:21Jets in terms of PFF. And then in terms of his overall season, it was the second worst
00:52:26on, on true media. So I looked through his plays. There's some ugly ones there. He gets pushed back
00:52:32and doesn't set the edge on certain plays, but then he also made some other plays against the
00:52:36run where you're like, that's pretty impressive. That's setting the edge. That's what you want to
00:52:41see. So like with any rookie, you can't judge a book by seven games and say, this guy can't do
00:52:47this the rest of his career. I think you have to let him continue to progress. It sucks that he's
00:52:52hurt right now. I'm hoping that he can play because the Jets are a better team when, when he's
00:52:56playing. I believe that. And it, it, it, in my opinion, when you're playing the run, like Frankie
00:53:01said, it's a mentality. You have to be willing to stop the run. Otherwise teams are just going to
00:53:05continue to do it to you. And they're going to have a field day against you all day.
00:53:10Ryan to that Bailey point. I looked at your video. You did a good, good job, by the way.
00:53:14I told him cause you should have had me on there. You know, we could have, we could have,
00:53:18you know, tag team and made the video even that much better. No, I'm just kidding. But, um,
00:53:23I'm messing with you today. You're like, you're not making me laugh, but right. Let me say
00:53:27something with your point, right? That clip you had of Bailey getting pushed back. What
00:53:34Bailey was doing was he was trying to rip off of the guy to get into that B gap. And
00:53:40that
00:53:40was causing leverage issues for him getting over. Now that is an undisciplined tactic on
00:53:45his end. You don't always have to try to rip out of your gap or get across someone's face
00:53:50lineman's face to try to make tackles. And that's what I see from Bailey more than anything
00:53:54is again, he is more of a disruptor pass rusher style guy, a little bit on discipline, or he
00:54:01actually, excuse me, he is on discipline versus the run at times. And I just think it's unfair
00:54:06when people are out there posting, like you just said, six or seven clips. Of course, you're going
00:54:11to see him getting washed down at times. Overall, his body of work against the run this year
00:54:17has been solid for his sake. Like it's something you can work with. He's never going to be a premier
00:54:22run defender or at the point of attack. They're literally taking the weakness of his game and
00:54:27trying to like expose it on a few plays to say why in totality, this edge is not worth
00:54:34it. What about him having the most forced fumbles out of edges? What about him having
00:54:38one of the highest pressure rates or him fourth and sacks in the league? Don't bring that up.
00:54:42Bring up him not being at the point of attack in a four, three alignment. Yeah. That's going
00:54:47to happen. That's his weakness. It was a little bit too much. Like, yeah, I could do that for
00:54:52every player in the league almost, by the way, there's a, there's a team totally in defense
00:54:58that just right now, I don't like the way they look mentality wise. I don't like the way
00:55:03they play defensively against the run. It needs to be, it needs to be corrected. Cause I think
00:55:08cause this is going to be ultimately how they, if they can wife, they want to win this game
00:55:11against the Raiders. They're going to have to be able to stop the run against them.
00:55:14They're going to have to stop Eshin Gente out of the backfield. Um, the Kirk cousins of it all,
00:55:18he's still slinging it. And I, and I think while it, you do have to pay attention to Brock Bowers
00:55:25cause he's going to be their number one wide receiver slash target. They're going to try to
00:55:31run the ball out of it down your throat. I think that's exactly what's going to happen.
00:55:34We're both backs. Mike Washington jr. To look out for him. He's a home run guy.
00:55:38Yeah. Well, one thing I would say guys is my experience with players talking to players
00:55:43and what Ashton Gente said yesterday, he didn't come up with that idea on the spot.
00:55:48That's something that the Raiders talked about in their meeting. And someone highlighted some
00:55:52plays where jets guys didn't have a lot of effort against the run and said, Hey, look,
00:55:57these guys don't want to tackle like, so that's, you know, that's me reading in between the lines
00:56:04there. Like that's from coming from a coach. So that's a talking point in Las Vegas this week.
00:56:09And it's up to the jets and Aaron Glenn ultimately, because he is calling the plays and this is his
00:56:13defense. You've got to get your guys ready to rock and roll this weekend, guys. Let's do some
00:56:17over-unders and then game predictions last week. Cause you were three and one.
00:56:26He's back. And I handed out it. I handed out an anytime touchdown score. Sure did with Mason
00:56:31Taylor times to times to Frankie and I both went one in three in terms of the season causes now
00:56:38up
00:56:39to nine and 18 slowly working his way. Like Aaron Glenn's hopefully trying to work his way out of a
00:56:44hole. Uh, I'm 14 and 13 and Frankie seven and 16. Not good for you guys. You guys need to
00:56:51start
00:56:51with puts more three to one together. Um, so let's start with Gino Smith. He did hit his over last
00:56:58week. His over under this week is 221 and a half pass yards again. Cause over Frankie over. They have
00:57:09the worst passing defense. I'm going to go with that. I think over is a safe bet there. I'm going
00:57:15to go over as well. Let's talk about Brock Bowers. They got them at 70 and a half receiving yards
00:57:21for
00:57:21the tight end guys. That's it. It's funny. I was looking at the jets against tight ends. Cause like,
00:57:27it feels like Dulcich was all open all over the place last week, but they've been pretty good against
00:57:32tight ends overall. I think they were fourth in the NFL against tight ends. Um, I think they've only
00:57:36given one, the Hunter Henry touchdowns, the only one Bowers is more like a receiver though. I'll go,
00:57:42I'll go over on that one. Cause I just think that's, that's where the Raiders offense is going
00:57:47to be flowing through all day. Frankie. I'm going to agree with cause over. I'm hitting over on that
00:57:52one as well. All right. Since, uh, Garrett Wilson doesn't seem to be targeted much and I'm not going
00:57:57to force you guys to make a prediction on him. If they give him the ball again, uh, Omar Cooper,
00:58:01jr. Let's go to him. 41 and a half receiving yards cause over on one play. Wow. Frankie.
00:58:13I'm going to go under in typical jets fashion. He'll have a 15 yards. I actually kind of agree
00:58:20with you. I don't think he's going to be talking as much. I'm taking the under on Omar Cooper jr.
00:58:23Why would they target him? You know, for what? He could get one catch for that. He could. He could.
00:58:29That's true. Um, Ashton, Jenny, so jets speaking of the guy who thinks he can run against this jet
00:58:35defense, Ashton, Jenny, they got him at 50 and a half rushing yards cause under nice. They're going to
00:58:43tackle him. Frankie. I'm going to go over. I think he'll make it a point to try to have the
00:58:49best game
00:58:50of, of his season. So far, I'm going to barely get over, but I'll get over. I think I'm going
00:58:55to
00:58:55take the under there. I think he's been a terrible rush running back this year in terms of rushing
00:58:59the ball. And I just think this jets defense is going to be ready to ready to, to prove it
00:59:04to him
00:59:04that they can, they can stop the run. All right, let's do some game predictions. Uh, the jets are
00:59:08somehow one and a half point favorites to the Las Vegas Raiders. Uh, they are not changing their
00:59:13quarterback. Like we said, they're sticking with Kirk cousins. Um, despite what, how they've lost a
00:59:17couple of games here recently cause give me your game prediction for this one. I'm going to start
00:59:22with you. Yeah, look, I know I've given a lot of positivity out. I've tried to zig when you guys
00:59:29are zagging, but I'm going to go back to being negative here. Uh, I can't pick the jets right
00:59:34now. I don't know how you can pick the jets right now. They're just after last week, I have no
00:59:39belief
00:59:40in them. Uh, I think the Raiders are, you know, similar team to the jets coming off a four straight
00:59:47losses. They're going to be a little desperate here. They've been close against the bills,
00:59:51close against the chiefs. I think got their doors blown off by the Rams and the Patriots. But,
00:59:56uh, I think Kirk cousins is going to carve the jets up and I think it will be 28, 24.
01:00:04For the Raiders. Wow. Frankie, how do you follow that one up?
01:00:13You did, by the way, Frankie did pick the dolphins last week. Everyone just to give you all a heads
01:00:17up. Frankie's five and one on his picks this year. Cause and I are both four and three.
01:00:22Also, I thought I was nuts. I did. I wanted to cut my mic last week when I was giving
01:00:26that
01:00:26prediction, by the way, just throwing that out there. I almost got my mic cut. And I will say
01:00:30this cause I did. I was, and then cause you also tried to predict a jet scoring a touchdown inside
01:00:35two minutes. I wrote it down. Like he did not get that one at all. Frank, Frankie, go ahead, buddy.
01:00:50All right, man. I mean, this game is trending where in typical jets fashion for the, uh, for the tankers,
01:00:56they win this one just to officially knock us out of the drew mess to maker running, which should be
01:01:01the running that we're all in right now. It should be the most important thing that this franchise is
01:01:05looking at. But, um, listen, I won't go on and on. Like I usually do. I don't think the jets
01:01:10have
01:01:10enough right now to compete with the Raiders offense. Kirk cousins leading is leading the NFL in passing
01:01:17touchdowns. Don't sleep on Trey Tucker. You got, you, you guys know, I like to throw a little name
01:01:21out there for you guys to kind of look at, or, you know, listeners. Um, I think Trey Tucker is
01:01:25someone
01:01:26that could have a big day, a lot of speed. And I don't see the jets corners being able to
01:01:30run with
01:01:30him. If David Billy doesn't play, they're going to be at a big loss because you're going to have
01:01:35to get pressure on cousins because any little extra time that he has there, you're going to have those
01:01:40receivers and Brock Bowers getting down the field and they're all very athletic jets. Don't have
01:01:45enough. This head coach is a defensive coordinator, you know, disguised as a head coach. He should do that
01:01:53on, uh, on Halloween, by the way, or it's the day after Halloween. Like he should show up as a
01:01:57DC
01:01:57because that's all we really get on Sundays. Unfortunately, um, I'm picking the Raiders
01:02:0427 jets 20. That was not short at all. Like you said, it was going to be by the way.
01:02:11Um,
01:02:11I did like you. It wasn't. No, I'll give you a Glenn dig. That was a good one though. Um,
01:02:18boy, finally, do we all, do we all go on the Raiders? Don't do it. Right. This would
01:02:25separate me from you. I gotta catch up. I'll pick the jets. I think the jets offense is
01:02:29going to have a field day against the Raiders. And like Frankie said, they're going to ruin
01:02:33the tank. What does a field day look like to you? By the way, 28 points. Cause you, the jets
01:02:38offense scores 28 points, they score four touchdowns, 28 jets Raiders. I'll give them
01:02:4520. Um, and I think, I think there's some reality to the situation that they're actually
01:02:51going to Gino Smith's going to have a field day. I get this will be the day that he looks
01:02:55like, Oh, there's good Gino. We haven't seen that a while since like Detroit. So, um, I
01:03:01think that's a real possibility this week against his Raiders last week. Cause look at the tape.
01:03:06That was bad. Gino. That was not good. I get it, but he wasn't bad. Gino took two amazing
01:03:10Mason Taylor touchdown catches for them to have a good day on offense. He was, he was mediocre
01:03:17Gino last week. It was, it was, you know, mediocre. He needs to be, he needs to be better. Um,
01:03:25all right, that's a show. I don't know where to go from there guys. Thank you so much. I'll
01:03:30say this with a Gino thing really quick playing his former team in, in Vegas. I think
01:03:35if I had to make a prediction, just throwing this out there, I think we're going to get
01:03:38one extreme or the other with Gino. I think it could be a situation where it goes that
01:03:43bad that we're talking about Cade, Cade, Cade, Cade, put them in, baby, put them in for
01:03:50a few drives at the end of the game. Right? I'm telling you, don't be surprised.
01:03:54It stinks, man. They're worse than that. It's a perfect defense for him to come into.
01:04:00I'm not calling for Cade, by the way. I'm just saying there's Jeff fans right now. You
01:04:05know, it's getting rough on those social media streets, guys. There's, there's a lot of stuff
01:04:09being thrown out and Cade's right up there, you know? So hopefully we get to hear, uh,
01:04:15cause you do great in those spaces. By the way, I listened sometimes after and, uh, I love the
01:04:19way you just had cause handle the kid the other day. Like, like, Hey man, sit down. All right.
01:04:24I've been doing this long enough. Don't worry about what I'm asking. All right.
01:04:27That's what he does to us too. Yeah. Guys, that's a show. Uh, hit that, like it subscribe
01:04:33button. All you Jets fans out there, we're obviously going to be covering you throughout
01:04:37the rest of this season. Looking forward to your coverage throughout the weekend cause
01:04:40and we'll catch up with you next week. Thanks fellas. All right, guys. Thanks.
