00:13Hello and welcome to Gangs All Here. My name is Ryan Sampson. That's Brian Costello, our Jets beat writer.
00:17Today is Monday, October 19th. Cos, the Jets fall to 2-4 after losing to the New England Patriots on
00:22Sunday, 26-19.
00:24And we're here to break it down. A lot of things from yesterday's game and some comments from Aaron Glenn
00:28today.
00:28But before we get to any of that, as always, how are you doing today, sir?
00:33I'm good, Ryan. Good. Good to be home after a nice, nice long ride from Foxborough last night.
00:39Yeah. Look, and the weather finally wasn't horrible on a Sunday, which is nice that you don't have to go
00:45out.
00:45Yeah, you don't have to watch a game in the rain.
00:49Cos, look, there's a lot to talk about for yesterday's game.
00:52But I think we have to start with your question, Aaron Glenn, about Frank Reich's job as offensive coordinator and
01:00his response on how he thinks Reich has done.
01:03How would you assess the job Frank has done through six games?
01:07Say it again.
01:08How would you assess the job Frank Reich has done through six games?
01:11I think he's done a good job. I really do.
01:15Obviously, there's a number of things that we can improve on.
01:18And I think I just told you guys that from short yards to two-minute.
01:23But that also goes on me also when it comes to the defense side, me and Duker, on some things
01:28that we have to get better at, too.
01:31Obviously, we've got to improve on some things.
01:33And that's what this season is. That's what practice is.
01:35And, I mean, after six games, it's hard to just say, okay, we have to see how this thing plays
01:42out.
01:44But, obviously, I think he's done a good job.
01:46Obviously, Geno has done some good things.
01:49And you've got to give a lot of credit to Frank, Musgrave, Merck, and those guys, and plus Geno himself.
01:55So, as we continue to go through this season, I continue to see us progress and get better on the
02:01things we've got to get better at.
02:02But, to answer your question, I think he's done a good job.
02:05So, Kaz, he says he's done a pretty good job.
02:08What do you make of that?
02:12Look, as the person who asked the question, I understand the coach can't really give you a full answer on
02:17that, right?
02:18He's going to defend this guy.
02:19That's what he has to do.
02:20I asked a similar question last year about Steve Wilkes the week before he was fired.
02:26And he backed him, right?
02:28So, you're going to back the coach publicly.
02:29So, I understand that.
02:30I think it's more, from my perspective, just letting the coach answer the question, right?
02:36I think it's something fans are talking about.
02:39Frank Reich, it's something I might be writing about.
02:41I wanted to give him a chance to answer the question.
02:43But, look, this is not a well-coached team, Ryan.
02:47And, you know, I think the – we talked about this a little bit last week.
02:52The Brown – beating the Browns sort of was a deodorant for a lot of things.
02:56And people didn't really want to look at it.
02:59Like, if you really looked at that game, the Jets should have lost 12 to 10.
03:02The punter – the ball goes over the punter's head.
03:04The Jets get the ball to 23.
03:05Yes, they scored a touchdown.
03:06Kudos to them.
03:07They won the game.
03:08They found a way to win, which you have to do in the NFL.
03:10But if you're really looking at that game, the offense was not good.
03:13And I know people say, oh, it wasn't a rainstorm.
03:15But the offense wasn't good the week before in Chicago.
03:18It's been pretty much in, like, spurts.
03:22We've seen some good offense.
03:23The second half in Detroit was pretty good.
03:25They did some good things against Tennessee.
03:29Green Bay, I don't even really remember if they had a good spurt in that Green Bay game.
03:33But it's been – it just hasn't been consistent.
03:37And situationally, Ryan, they are terrible.
03:39They are a bad team on third down.
03:41They are a bad team in the red zone.
03:43They are a bad team in two-minute.
03:46And those are areas where you go coaching.
03:49I'm a big players guy.
03:51I think you know this.
03:52I push back against you and Frankie.
03:54You do.
03:54I'm coaching stuff a lot because I think it's the easiest thing that fans do is go,
04:00fire the coach, fire the coach.
04:01It's the coach's fault.
04:02It's the coach's fault.
04:03They don't really want to see – I think a lot of this is players.
04:05But when it comes to situational football, that's coaching.
04:10And I thought the chasm between the two coaching staffs was on display yesterday
04:15with two minutes left in the first half.
04:17And the Patriots score a field goal.
04:19Jets get the ball.
04:20I think it was 143 left.
04:21They have a timeout.
04:22They go three and – they threw three and out.
04:24Patriots get the ball at their own 29 with 124 left.
04:28And they just go boom, boom, boom, 15 yards, 11 yards.
04:32They just had the perfect plays dialed up by Josh McDaniels.
04:36David Bailey helps them with a rough-in-the-passer call.
04:40But they go down and score a touchdown.
04:41And that was 17-3 at halftime.
04:43And that game had flipped.
04:45It had been seven to three two minutes before.
04:47And that to me was like, wow.
04:49Like, not just Mike Rabel.
04:51Josh McDaniels is a great offensive coordinator.
04:54And they just out-coached the Jets in those last two minutes.
04:57It's well said by you, Kaz.
04:58And I think you're pointing out to the key situations and areas that the Jets
05:03just have been lacking in and in execution.
05:06So I think there's two parts I would love to go here.
05:09The first being on the coaching side.
05:12You know, everyone's seen the stats now about the final two minutes of the
05:15first half.
05:16And at the end of the game, the Jets are being outscored in an astronomical
05:19rate.
05:20They don't score themselves.
05:21100-6, Ryan.
05:22100-6.
05:23It's cosmic.
05:24In the last two years.
05:25It's 20 to nothing this year.
05:27100-6 in the last two and a half.
05:28When I saw that number yesterday after the game, I was like, wow.
05:33I didn't even know it was going to be that bad.
05:34I'm sure you were surprised, too.
05:36It was that high of a margin.
05:38Well, I did a story on this toward the end of last year.
05:42I kind of figured it out toward the end of last year, how bad they were.
05:44And it's just continued into this year.
05:47So it's something I pay attention to.
05:49And, you know, they actually call it the middle eight, if you want to do that.
05:53Extend the first four minutes, the second half, last four minutes, first half.
05:57They're bad all around in that, too.
06:00But, yeah, it's just staggering.
06:02And it's hard to figure out, Ryan, like why they're that bad.
06:05Because they practice it.
06:06I see it all summer.
06:07They practice two-minute drills.
06:09I go back, though.
06:10If you remember, there was a practice against the Buccaneers in the summer.
06:14Oh, yeah.
06:15And there was some negativity coming out of that practice.
06:18And there was a two-minute period at the end of the practice.
06:22I was at that practice.
06:23And the Jets looked like they had never practiced before.
06:25They couldn't move the ball at all.
06:27And then Baker Mayfield, he missed like the first throw.
06:30I feel like Bailey was in his face.
06:32Missed the first throw.
06:32And then all of a sudden, it was like, oh, he just sliced and diced the Jets down the field.
06:38And I was like, whoa.
06:39And at that point, I thought the Bucs were going to be a good team.
06:41They're not even a good team.
06:43And so, yeah, it's the two-minute thing is something they have to figure out.
06:47And what's fascinating, too, is look, there can be arguments that offense has a little bit more of advantage in
06:51too much because they do like to do a lot of no huddle in that situation.
06:54They're trying to get you up on the line of scrimmage before you can get substitutions in.
06:57And try and get the ball out and move the ball downfield.
07:01And I think what's interesting, too, Kaz, is that the start of that game, you know, in the first half,
07:06the Jets crossed midfield three times.
07:08And they only end up with three points out of all those situations.
07:12Yeah.
07:12That's where, like, we talked about, I think, on last week's episode about the sustained drives.
07:16They keep having these killer moments where, whether it's short yardage situation, mistimed penalties, miscommunication, whatever it may be, they
07:26are just not executing at a high enough level.
07:29So I'm curious from your standpoint, what did you think about the fourth and two run in the shotgun, again,
07:36with Braylon Allen, and then the Geno Smith QB sneak, which felt, again, I know it was fourth and one
07:41on the field.
07:41It felt more like a fourth and two, and I would not have called the quarterback sneak in that spot.
07:47I'm curious what your thoughts were on those two situations.
07:51Yeah.
07:53I was okay the first one.
07:55I was okay with trying Braylon Allen.
07:57I mean, Braylon Allen was a 250-pound running back.
07:59I think if they had lined up and thrown a pass downfield and it was incomplete, everyone would have screamed,
08:05you have a 250-pound running back.
08:06Just run him up the hole.
08:07And, look, Spillane made a really nice play.
08:09I think you tip your cap on that one.
08:13So the second series, I'm going to take you back, though, Ryan, to second and one on that one.
08:18They have second and one.
08:20Now, if I'm a play caller and I get second and one, that's a dream, right?
08:25That is every single play on your play sheet is in play at second and one, right?
08:30Like, what do you have to lose?
08:31Like, you don't get it.
08:32You're going to have third and one.
08:33You have, like, so you can take a deep shot on second and one.
08:37You can call your best trick play on second and one.
08:41You can call a screen.
08:42Like, you can do so many different things.
08:44Maybe target Garrett Wilson.
08:46He hands the ball to Isaiah Davis, who runs into the guard.
08:50And I'm just like, ugh.
08:51Like, it's just the last thing I would want to do on second and one.
08:56Like, I just, I would love, I would just love to try something there.
09:00So then it's third and two, I think.
09:02And then they run the ball in the middle again.
09:05And then, like you said, it was a fourth and a very long one.
09:07I do not know in that instance if Geno called his own number, Rod.
09:12Like, sometimes the quarterback, right?
09:13A lot of times quarterback has the right, if they go to the line of scrimmage and they
09:16see the A-gap is open, to call a sneak.
09:19And then sometimes it's just him in the center, right?
09:21He gooses the center and that's a sneak.
09:23So I don't know that.
09:25If it's called, that's a good question for Reich on Thursday.
09:27Yeah.
09:27Was that called?
09:28Was Geno called it?
09:30And it looked like, you know, I know in the broadcast they were kind of getting all over Geno.
09:34Like, he went low.
09:34If he stayed high, he could have gotten it.
09:38He's not the most strongly built lower half person, I would say, in terms of driving the
09:43pile forward, if that makes sense.
09:45But it wasn't a bare front, right?
09:47Like, he wasn't running to the teeth of the defense.
09:48There was two holes there.
09:49Like, he could have – I understood why there was a sneak there.
09:53To me, it's more that second and one would drive me freaking crazy because that's the
09:58one.
10:00And, yeah, like you just like to see some creativity on these short yardage situations because
10:03they are terrible at them right now.
10:05And I would also say Geno Smith's not the best right now in terms of knowing where he
10:11is on the field in certain situations.
10:12We've seen him run out of bounds before the first down marker.
10:15We've seen him slide before the first down marker.
10:17He's – sometimes the awareness is not –
10:19I don't think Geno wants to get – Geno doesn't want to get hit, right?
10:22He's 36 years old.
10:24It's something we've – like, we covered Aaron Rodgers for two years.
10:27I mean, maybe basically one year.
10:30The difference between Aaron Rodgers in 2024 and Aaron Rodgers in, like, 2019 was he
10:35no longer wanted to get hit.
10:36And I have not watched Aaron Rodgers this year, so maybe you'll tell me it's different
10:39if you've watched him.
10:41But, like, with the Jets, Aaron Rodgers didn't want to get hit.
10:43So, the ball was always coming out really fast out of his hand.
10:45He wasn't trying to take deep shots down the field.
10:47He wasn't really running the ball.
10:48You understood it.
10:49He's an older quarterback.
10:50Like, you get it.
10:51Like, the hits – everything feels different when you're old, Rod.
10:53You'll get there someday.
10:54Like, when I get out of bed, everything hurts.
10:56And I'm not playing football.
10:58So, I get it.
11:00But, yeah, that's something with Geno right now is he looks like he does not want to get hit.
11:05That's fair.
11:05That's a fair assessment.
11:06But I would also say, too, on the getting the ball out quickly is something Geno has not been doing
11:11well either.
11:12It's true.
11:13He's getting sacked.
11:15He's getting sacked.
11:16And, look, the interior of the offensive line was another issue I feel like today.
11:19I thought Moses – Moses – Membu and Fashion were okay.
11:24But the fact that the interior got beat up again, Kaz –
11:29I don't think they got beat up right.
11:31There was one series where they were backed up, right?
11:33I think it was their second series maybe.
11:35And they gave up two sacks.
11:36Tippman got run over, and they didn't pick up the blitz.
11:38And then there was the third down in the second half that ended a drive.
11:42That was the sack.
11:44But other than that, I didn't think they were getting destroyed yesterday.
11:46I thought the offensive line kind of held up okay.
11:49And there was – they obviously opened up some really big holes for Braylon Allen.
11:52In the first half, they got away from running the ball in the second half for whatever reason.
11:56I was told it was because they were trailing.
11:58But, like, Jesus Christ, you're trailing by four points.
12:01Like, run the ball.
12:02So, that's so funny.
12:03I was talking about this with Frankie on the post-game show.
12:05I go, if we were with Kaz right now and I said, Kaz, why would they get away from the
12:09run in the second half?
12:10They were doing it so well in the first.
12:11You would have gone to me, Ryan, they were trailing.
12:13You got to try and throw the ball and try and score some points.
12:16But I agree with you.
12:18I don't understand why you just completely abandoned the run in the second half.
12:22If you're down by 20 points, I get it.
12:24Go ahead.
12:24Throw the ball.
12:24But they were down by 10 at the most.
12:26And third quarter, it was seven points.
12:29Then four points.
12:29And, like, just run the ball like you were getting.
12:32He was – Braylon Allen looked awesome.
12:34He did.
12:34He looked awesome the last two weeks.
12:36Like, this is the Braylon Allen we've been talking about for two years, three years.
12:39Amen.
12:40Give him the ball.
12:41Give him the ball.
12:43I could not agree more with you, Kaz.
12:44And I don't know if we're going to get into Garrett.
12:46That's where I was going to go to next is about the Garrett Wilson of it all.
12:49Two targets in the first half, one catch.
12:52And then it was too little too late at the end where they were targeting him
12:54and peppering him with some throws.
12:56Look, I think Garrett's taken the high road a little bit in terms of his postgame comments.
13:01But I think you could see the expression on his face and you could see him on the sideline.
13:06It doesn't look good right now, Kaz.
13:08And I didn't love Aaron Glenn's answer today, again, about why Garrett Wilson's not getting targeted as much.
13:13You know, he's saying, hey, there's only one ball.
13:15It's like, okay, but you paid Garrett a ton of money.
13:20Why aren't you getting the ball more?
13:23Yes.
13:24And I think if you look at it, A.J. Brown was targeted 10 times yesterday.
13:29A.J. Brown might have had the worst game of his career yesterday.
13:32He did not look ready.
13:32And he still kept feeding him the ball, right?
13:35Like, you got to find out if Garrett Wilson is Garrett Wilson for a reason.
13:39He's going to be open.
13:40He's going to get open, even against Christian Gonzalez.
13:42Get him the ball.
13:43And I won't get into too much detail of this, Ryan, because it's a little bit eavesdroppy of me.
13:49Yeah.
13:50But when Garrett – I was in the tunnel as Garrett came off the field yesterday.
13:54He was not happy.
13:56And I'm not going to quote him, but he was not happy.
13:58He was talking to his teammates, and he wasn't happy about the way that game went for him.
14:04So, he's very frustrated.
14:06And when you saw him speak to us in the locker room, that was a long time after the game
14:12and after many conversations with Jets public relations departments, you know, trying to make sure he was going to say
14:21the right things.
14:22And Garrett is a good company man, and he did say the right things.
14:26He's a good teammate.
14:27But he's frustrated as hell right now, and you can't blame him.
14:30I mean, he's lived this now for five years, right?
14:34Is this year five for Garrett?
14:36Year six?
14:36What is it?
14:37It's year five.
14:38Yeah.
14:38Year five for Garrett.
14:40It's a lot of losing.
14:42And I think Garrett's frustration comes from a place of he believes he can help the team win the game,
14:48but he needs the ball in his hands to do it.
14:50And they're just not figuring out ways to get him the ball, and they got to do that.
14:55Even, right, like, run a wide receiver screen.
14:58Yeah.
14:59I don't like wide receiver screens that much, but it means you're going to get the ball to Garrett.
15:03Go for it.
15:04Like, go for it.
15:05Like, if you just dial up some easy completions just to get him in the game.
15:09I mean, I saw Kevin Byard said after the game, one of the most important things was getting number five
15:14out of the game, and we did it.
15:15Like, so, like, you know what they were talking about on the other side.
15:19Like, they're that.
15:20So, I do think if they get Mitchell back this week, they get Brees back this week, right?
15:26The offense looks a little different with those two guys in there, although Braylon's done a great job in place
15:31of Brees.
15:31But Brees is just more dynamic in the pass game, and Brees can break a run for a touchdown at
15:38any point.
15:38So, the offense will look better once they get those guys back in there, and par.
15:43I would include par on two in there.
15:44Yeah.
15:45I mean, those will be necessary reinforcements, but at the end of the day, you got who you do on
15:50the field, and Garrett Wilson's one of the best ones in the NFL, I would argue.
15:53And they still just, like you said, they just are not getting the ball enough, and he's not part of
15:57the game plan right now in the way that you would hope that they would want to put them in
16:00the game plan.
16:02I want to hit on Omar Cooper first before we get to the defensive side of this cause.
16:05Omar Cooper comes back, and wow, what a game.
16:08Should have had two touchdowns.
16:10I think that was a bogus OPI call.
16:12I know you're going to say that's a letter of the law.
16:14That is offensive pass interference because he's trying to run block because he thought Gino was going to scramble.
16:18I think the refs, you're either looking for that or you're not looking for that, and that felt very forced
16:24in that call.
16:25But what did you make of Omar Cooper's day yesterday?
16:29Yeah, great.
16:30I mean, he had an instant impact, right?
16:31And I think you've got to feel good right now.
16:33You've had three games this year where a rookie first-round pick was one of your best players, if not
16:39the best player, with Sadiq against Detroit, David Bailey against Cleveland, and now Cooper.
16:44So, you know, these guys can do it consistently.
16:46You've got three really good players there.
16:48I think Daryl Jackson has been very good as a, you know, fourth-round pick, fifth-round pick.
16:53He's been very good.
16:56I do think you'll see more pawns now.
16:58Pawns played a lot more in the second half yesterday with, I think, Brownlee might have been responsible for that
17:03one touchdown where Hunter Henry was wide open.
17:05So, I think you'll see more pawns.
17:06So, you've got to feel good about the rookie class.
17:09And, yeah, Cooper had a big impact.
17:12In fact, I actually would love to ask a referee about the OPI call, right?
17:18Because I do not know what the rule is there.
17:21It didn't affect the play at all.
17:23So, that would be my argument of, like, why are you calling it?
17:26But they do call – sometimes they call stuff on the other side of the field that doesn't affect the
17:29play.
17:31And, you know, yeah, you can see what Tim Patrick was thinking.
17:33He thought Gino was going to run, so he started blocking.
17:36I just don't – it just had no effect on the play.
17:38So, that's why the call bothers me the same way, you know, a holding call bothers me on the other
17:43side of the field when it's not where the run is going.
17:45But, technically, I'm sure that is the rule.
17:48And it's convenient when the refs miss a blatant face mask.
17:51That would have set the Jets up on first and goal later in the game as well.
17:54So, it's funny how that works.
17:56Let's switch to the defensive side of the ball.
17:58Kaz, I think the biggest thing for me was the Jets got zero pass rush on Drake May.
18:04And he had no sacks yesterday after you had a great game last week.
18:08We can get into the Bailey dropping in pass coverage.
18:11I know it was a quote-unquote miscommunication on the touchdown to Romeo Dobbs.
18:14But, I don't know if you saw this, Kaz.
18:17I went down into the stats.
18:19Aaron Glenn called the second least amount of blitzes yesterday.
18:23Yeah.
18:24All season long against Drake May.
18:27And I find that curious when you're going up against the backup and the backup to the backup tackle.
18:33Yeah.
18:34And right tackle.
18:35And really a banged-up offensive line for the Patriots.
18:39Curious what you think about that.
18:41Yeah, I'm okay with it, Ry.
18:43I'll tell you what.
18:43I think May is good against the blitz.
18:45We talked about that, right?
18:46He's been very good against the blitz.
18:49And I think your argument, when you have the backup and the backup to the backup in there, is my
18:54front four should be able to win against that offensive line without having to do blitzes.
19:00Like, I should be able to win with four people on the pass rush there.
19:04They got backups in there.
19:05And they just weren't winning yesterday.
19:09And so that's a problem.
19:10I think this week, when you get Malik Willis, he's going to dial up the blitzes like there's no tomorrow.
19:14I think it'll be like the Deshaun Watson game.
19:16I think what we've seen is when they play a quarterback that, I don't know if he, fears is the
19:21right word.
19:22That he respects, that he thinks can do some damage to them and can throw over the top of them.
19:27He's going to play two deep safeties.
19:29He's going to play back.
19:30He wants to keep everything in front of them.
19:32I think when he plays a quarterback that they think that they can rattle, he's going to blitz.
19:38And so I would think Willis is going to get a lot of blitzes this week.
19:42Can I retort there just a little bit?
19:44The defensive line has to win, right?
19:46The defensive line has to win.
19:47And they were crap against the run, too.
19:49No doubt.
19:49The pass rushers got 148 yards.
19:51They had rushing.
19:52Horrible.
19:53This defensive line was getting pushed around yesterday.
19:55And, yeah, I actually had my binoculars right on David Bailey on that touchdown.
20:00It was interesting.
20:01And I'm like, sometimes I pick a play where I'm going to watch a player.
20:04And I saw my binoculars on Bailey.
20:06And right before that, he was lined up like wide nine.
20:09And then right before the snap, Sherwood walked over.
20:12And I don't know if Sherwood said something to him or what.
20:14But, like, Bailey kind of looked at him.
20:16And he moved inside.
20:18And then I saw him drop.
20:19And Sherwood came.
20:20And I'm like, what the heck is this?
20:22And I think it was supposed to be – I think that was supposed to be an overload blitz with
20:26Sherwood and Bailey coming together.
20:28And Bailey, for some reason, Bailey got confused and dropped in the coverage because, yeah, that play was a mess.
20:33And then the safety bit underneath and the guy was wide open.
20:36No doubt.
20:37And I think that's a good point by you.
20:39And I will say this.
20:41Aaron Glenn, though, the superpower that he proclaimed he has is defensive play calling.
20:45And I hear you on the Drake Mays good versus the blitz.
20:48But I also think if you're going to play into your strengths as a team, without Joseph Asai in that
20:54lineup, you have to be able to generate pressure via the blitz as well.
20:58It can't just be versus four because I don't think they have the dogs right now.
21:01And that's just – you saw yesterday the Patriots were chipping Bailey almost every single pass rush snap he had.
21:07They had a tight end or a running back chipping him at the line of scrimmage.
21:11They said, that's the guy we cannot let beat us.
21:13So, yeah, if you're going to drop him in pass coverage on a miscommunication, thanks.
21:17We'll take that.
21:18But I think if you're Aaron Glenn, wouldn't you want to be a little more aggressive?
21:21Like I think of like a Brian Flores who blitzes all day and all night.
21:25No matter who the quarterback is, I'm going to get after your ass.
21:30That's what the Jets' strength is.
21:31Wouldn't you agree, Kaz, is blitzing and forcing those mistakes by the quarterbacks.
21:36I understand Drake Mays is more polished.
21:38Joshua Daniels probably has more outlets built into their offense for him.
21:41But wouldn't you think you should play more into your strength as a team defensively?
21:47I don't know if I agree the strength is blitzing.
21:49I think Will McDonald should have played more.
21:52He only played 23 snaps.
21:54Like – and I get it.
21:55They don't think he's the greatest against the run.
21:57But you gave up 148 yards against the run with Will McDonald barely playing.
22:01So, how much worse can it get?
22:02And it really – they weren't running outside.
22:04They were running right up the middle on this defense.
22:07And so, you know, you have two first-round picks as edge rushers with McDonald and Bailey.
22:13Like, that should be good enough.
22:15And you should be able to get there with that.
22:17And they spent a lot of money on the interior.
22:20They made a trade for sweat.
22:21Like, they should be able to push the line.
22:25And this one, to me, wasn't the play calling for Glenn.
22:29I thought Glenn – I thought he did a really good job against Cleveland.
22:32And that was a blitz-heavy scheme.
22:34This one, to me, was more about the players on defense.
22:38Like, I just felt like there was just guys wide open at times.
22:43And, you know, Glenn's not drawing it up like that.
22:47Like, guys are screwing up.
22:49I'm not exactly sure who, and I'm not actually sure what they're doing.
22:52But there's no way that he's designing the defense to look like that.
22:57And maybe you could say, well, the miscommunications are his fault because he's the coach.
23:01I understand kind of the buck stops there type of thing.
23:04But this defense, Ryan, like, they played much better than I expected them to.
23:11But I still think there is a lack of talent on the defensive side of the ball for the Jets.
23:16And that's going to be exposed at times when they play good offenses.
23:19And I think that's kind of just what happened yesterday.
23:22Okay.
23:22I hear you.
23:23But maybe we – I think we have a different viewpoint there.
23:26But I'm totally okay with that from your perspective on that.
23:30They're heading into two weeks here, Kaz, back-to-back games.
23:32You would think could be winnable games for them.
23:34They're playing the Dolphins.
23:35Yeah, the Raiders are – Raiders look different, huh?
23:38Right.
23:38But the Raiders also had a competitive game against the Bills yesterday.
23:41So, they're not – they are, I think – huh.
23:45I had this thought yesterday because my buddy's a Raiders fan.
23:47He goes, I'm really excited that they're in every game and they're competitive.
23:52Stinks that we can't win, but we don't have the talent yet.
23:54Hopefully, in a year or two, they can have the talent to win some football games
23:57and close these out.
23:58I don't feel like the Jets are there yet, if I'm being honest with you.
24:01Like, I don't think they're there where they're actually in these games.
24:05I don't know about you, Kaz, but it was going to take a real miracle for them
24:08to win that football game yesterday against the Patriots, it felt like.
24:10Like, even though the score says it was a seven-point loss.
24:14I remember the Packers game.
24:16I remember that they should have won that one.
24:19The Lions, you know, it was a tough fight back.
24:21Talk to me.
24:22Like, can they win these next two weeks and prove that, you know what,
24:26they're better than in the bottom of the league still?
24:29Yeah.
24:30Well, like, this week is – I separate the two games.
24:33Sure.
24:33The Dolphins are a winless team.
24:34They look like they're heading to Jeremiah Smith country, right?
24:38Like, they're going to have the number one pick in the draft.
24:39So, that's a different animal than the Raiders.
24:45The Raiders are competitive.
24:46The Raiders have won – what are they?
24:47Are they three?
24:47Three and three?
24:48Yeah.
24:49I think, right?
24:50So, they're three and three.
24:51So, give them credit.
24:51I saw the highlights of the Bills game.
24:53It looked like Kirk Cousins is playing amazing right now.
24:56So, they're different.
24:57So, this week, like, I know, like, you asked me week one.
25:02You asked me against the Bears.
25:03Like, is this a must win?
25:04Is this a must win?
25:05Like, you got to win this game.
25:06There's no excuses.
25:07You got to win this game.
25:08Like, you're – this is a team you are better than.
25:11And there aren't that many of those teams in the NFL.
25:14The Jets are better than this team.
25:16Beat them.
25:16Step on their throats.
25:18Blow them out.
25:19Have a convincing victory.
25:21Don't let this be, you know, any question.
25:23Like, you should just beat them up like you beat the Titans up in week one.
25:26It should be the same type of thing.
25:28The Raiders, that looks trickier.
25:30And it's interesting.
25:32I was looking at the schedule.
25:33Yeah.
25:34And they have – like, you can go, oh, the Jets have – they play the Cardinals.
25:38They play the Dolphins twice.
25:41You know, the Chargers look like they're – I don't know if we believe it,
25:45but they're in the bottom of the league.
25:46So, like, you're looking at these teams and like, okay, these are all games
25:49the Jets should slash could, like, whatever you want to say, win.
25:53And then they have this other group of games who are, like, the top five teams
25:59in the NFL.
26:00Like, the Bills twice.
26:02The Chiefs, they play.
26:04Obviously, the Patriots are in that category.
26:06The Broncos are a little weird right now, right?
26:08They're struggling on offense, but the Broncos could figure things out.
26:11The Vikings are undefeated.
26:13They play them in December.
26:14So, they have this, like, this group of teams where you're like, man,
26:17do the Jets have a chance in those games?
26:18Like, I'm not sure.
26:20The Raiders are, like, the one team that's kind of in the middle.
26:23And, like, they're hard to figure out.
26:25And that could – that's, like, feels like a big swing game for the Jets
26:28for their – when you're doing the win-loss game of, like, is this going to –
26:32is this team going to be 6-11?
26:34Or could this team be 8-9?
26:36Like, the Raiders game feels like a big one to me.
26:39But, yeah, I think these are winnable games.
26:41I think the Raiders are similar to the Jets, maybe a little bit better.
26:48And in terms of them, like, yesterday, could they win, Ryan?
26:51I was thinking – I always think about this.
26:53Like, there was ever a moment when I thought the Jets could win.
26:5717-10, they get the – they forced the fumble,
27:01and they get the ball back in Patriots territory.
27:05If they went down and scored there and tied the game at 17,
27:08now you're talking.
27:10Yep.
27:10Like, now you've got the Patriots on the ropes.
27:12Because the game felt over at halftime.
27:15It felt like, okay, this is over.
27:17The Jets had this huge advantage of time and possession,
27:19and they were down by two touchdowns.
27:21But then they came back, but then they, you know,
27:24they had to kick a field goal.
27:25And so once they kicked the field goal, all right, here they are,
27:28settling for another field goal.
27:29Like, you knew they weren't coming back then.
27:32So, yeah.
27:35For a brief moment, I thought they could win yesterday, Ryan,
27:37but not for very long.
27:38Yeah, I mean, the Omar Cooper touchdown, it was awesome to watch.
27:42And I'm like, hmm, okay, there's some fight in them.
27:44Let's see if they can claw their way back into this.
27:46But the defense could not respond, could not stop the run,
27:49and that ultimately led to them just turning – burning the clock out.
27:52And that was how the Patriots were able to succeed that victory yesterday, man.
27:56Third and 13, Ryan.
27:58Woof.
27:58And Hunter Henry's wide open.
28:00Woof.
28:02It's –
28:02I mean, yeah, you can't –
28:05like, it's when we talk about situational football.
28:06Like, that's – to me, like, my criticism of Glenn is not the play calling yesterday.
28:10It's the situational football.
28:12They're just – they're bad on both sides of the ball.
28:15And this isn't as big of a point as the other stuff, Ryan,
28:18but remember when this team used to be able to return kicks?
28:22Yeah.
28:22It's bad, man.
28:23It's bad right now.
28:25It's bad.
28:26And it's on coverage too.
28:28It's on coverage as well.
28:29Yeah.
28:30Yeah, their special teams are bad.
28:31Other than Jason Sanders, who we all panned all summer, he's doing great.
28:35But, you know, it shows what we know.
28:36But the special teams have been bad.
28:39The punter even has been – had some short punts.
28:41And I'm like, what's going on?
28:44I don't know.
28:45Yeah.
28:46Well, Kaz, we appreciate you hopping on here, giving us all your analysis.
28:49We're looking forward to your coverage.
28:50And we'll catch up with you before the end of the week
28:52as we preview the Jets versus Dolphins coming up next weekend.
28:55Thanks, buddy.
28:57How'd Frankie handle the loss?
28:58Uh, he's like – he is basically saying what he's always said is,
29:04Aaron Glenn's – Aaron Glenn's not the head coach of the Jets.
29:06He's – can't handle it.
29:08And he's not wrong.
29:10100 to 6.
29:12That's bad.
29:13That's all-time bad.
29:15Also –
29:15Can I ask you – can I ask you one, Ryan?
29:18Yeah.
29:18Did the halftime interview bother you?
29:21I just kind of shook my head, and I'm like,
29:24that's my superpower coach right there.
29:26That's what he says.
29:27I mean, he just – cut to black.
29:30I don't know.
29:31Anything else?
29:34I thought – yeah.
29:35I thought he misspoke.
29:37I mean, I did.
29:39Listening to it, just having heard him speak.
29:41I thought he misspoke, but, yeah, it wasn't a good look.
29:43It was interesting.
29:44You know, I didn't realize it at the time.
29:47Obviously, I'm in the press box,
29:48and then someone pointed it out to me late in the game.
29:51I was kind of like, ugh.
29:52Yeah, but –
29:53And they did get the ball back after the Bailey fumble.
29:56I will say that.
29:57They danced.
29:58Yeah.
30:01All right.
30:01Fun times, guys.
30:02Appreciate you, buddy.
30:03you
