00:08Jets-Bucks joint practice day number two at the Atlantic Health Jets facility.
00:13This is Gangs All Here.
00:14I'm Ryan Sampson.
00:15That's our Jets beater, Brian Costello, and that's Frankie Vittery from U Stadium.
00:19Fellas, day two, I'll start with you, Kaz.
00:21What were your thoughts on, I want to start with the offense overall,
00:25their performance today.
00:27What did you think of it?
00:28Yeah, Ryan, I thought it was okay.
00:30And then the two-minute drill didn't go very well.
00:32Up until that, I thought they were okay.
00:34I didn't see anything glaring.
00:36I thought the second-team offense had some moments.
00:38Kate Klubnick, really nice deep throw to Arian Smith.
00:41But then they ended practice with this two-minute drill,
00:43supposed to be the end of the first half.
00:45Started with a drop by Braylon Allen, then a deflected pass.
00:48There was penalties.
00:50It was just kind of an ugly series there.
00:52So I think that leaves a bad taste in the Jets' offense mouth.
00:55Overall, would you say today was better or improved from what you saw yesterday
00:59from the first-team offense?
01:00Yeah, I thought so.
01:01I thought it was a little bit better.
01:02It wasn't spectacular or anything, but I thought it was a little bit better.
01:05I thought the protection struggled a little bit more today.
01:07Reuben Bain had some success against Membu.
01:10But, you know, overall, I thought it wasn't like,
01:13oh, my God, they're getting killed here by the Bucs.
01:14It was pretty even.
01:15And so probably a little bit better than yesterday.
01:18Yeah, I completely agree with you, Kaz.
01:19And it was certainly interesting for that two-minute drill, like you said.
01:23It was not good.
01:24There was a lot of pre-snap penalties again.
01:25That's been an issue, it feels like, a little bit early on with the penalties.
01:29We heard Glenn talk about it today.
01:31The Bucs had more penalties yesterday, but he had a look at today.
01:34What do you make of the pre-snap penalties that have been happening
01:36with the Jets on the offense?
01:37I think they're tired.
01:38I think it's hot.
01:39I think it's like this, what is this, like almost the third week of camp now.
01:42So I think it happens, but that's, you know, you've got to be mentally tough,
01:46and that's what part of training camp is, is getting through that.
01:49So I think they're just, you know,
01:51I think the Jets are ready to play a preseason game,
01:53and I think maybe after that they'll be a little refreshed
01:56in the next segment of training camp.
01:58And what's going to be certainly fun to watch
02:00is that the starters are going to be playing tomorrow.
02:02We'll see how much they do play tomorrow.
02:05Frankie, Garrett Wilson talked about how he's excited to be back on the field,
02:08get ready for a game.
02:09What did you make of him in the starting offense today?
02:11Well, listen, I think they need to do a better job of scheming
02:14some of these guys open.
02:15I think getting first downs or getting big plays
02:18seems to be a little hard for this offense at times.
02:21We just listened and watched Garrett Wilson.
02:24You know, I saw him for the first time today, actually.
02:27The guy just wants to win.
02:29You can feel the fire in him.
02:31He is just a guy that wants to compete at the highest level,
02:34and he wants to win.
02:35I just hope that Frank Reich and this offense can scheme him up.
02:38It seems like things get a little hard for them out there
02:41to kind of get their playmakers the ball.
02:43And that's going to be a storyline on Friday,
02:46right, for preseason game one.
02:47That's going to be a storyline the whole season.
02:48Or is Frank Reich going to be able to get Garrett Wilson
02:51and Brees Hall and Mason Taylor the ball in space
02:54so they can make some plays?
02:55Yeah, I mean, look,
02:56we saw some plays from the tight ends today as well.
02:58I saw Mason Taylor get targeted in the red zone a couple times.
03:01Ruckert had the great high point catch during the two-minute drill as well.
03:04Kaz, K. Klubnick is going to get his first real action
03:07in this preseason game.
03:09What are you expecting to see from him in his first action?
03:12Yeah, I think it will be ups and downs, right?
03:14That's what you expect from rookies.
03:16You just hope there are some ups, right?
03:18You hope that there are some highlights from him.
03:19I mean, the deep throw to Arian Smith today was beautiful.
03:22We've seen that a couple times in camp.
03:24So I think he's swimming a little bit right now.
03:25But the preseason game will probably actually be like a dial back for him
03:29because they don't do much in preseason games.
03:31It's vanilla.
03:32So he's probably been doing more in training camp practices.
03:35So, you know, you hope that he can go out there
03:38and have some good moments and limit the bat.
03:40And also, he's fighting for that backup quarterback spot.
03:44And do you think he's going to do enough
03:46or can still do enough to prove he's worthy of being that backup quarterback spot?
03:50Yeah, I think they want him to be the backup quarterback.
03:52I think everyone in this organization wants him to be the backup quarterback.
03:54So I think he has a leg up in that regard.
03:58You know, the preseason games are going to be big for him, though.
04:00He's got to show it there.
04:02Especially, you know, I don't know how they'll divide up Friday night.
04:05And the second one, I feel like the third one,
04:07he'll probably get a lot of run in that third preseason game
04:09because I doubt the starters play there.
04:12So, you know, and then I think Bailey Zappi is chasing him right now.
04:15And then there's obviously the idea of do they go out
04:18and get somebody from another team that we've talked about a bunch of times.
04:20But I think Klubnik's the leader right now, and it's his job to lose.
04:25And, guys, we've got to talk about the defense here.
04:28Would both of you agree David Bailey was the best player on defense these two days?
04:33Yeah, I honestly have not watched the defense a ton.
04:36They're on separate fields for most of the practice.
04:38So I've watched a lot of offense.
04:39But he's had some highlight plays.
04:41And I don't know, you know, I haven't watched every single person on defense.
04:44But he's made his presence felt, let's put it that way.
04:47And I've noticed, too, he's bothered the Bucs.
04:50Like, Baker was chirping at him.
04:52He came close.
04:53You know, you're not allowed to come near the quarterback.
04:54He came pretty close to Baker during the two-minute drill.
04:57Baker started yelling at him.
04:59Then Luke Gedeke came in, and there was a little more pushing and shoving.
05:02Not like the first day.
05:04But, yeah, he's definitely an irritant to offenses.
05:07And there were some false starts.
05:09I mean, even after he gets that first pressure, not in two minutes,
05:12but during one of the team drills in 11-on-11,
05:15he gets a pressure on the first play, Frankie.
05:17And then there's a false start as well.
05:20You could see how he's already frustrating, like Kaz said, the opponents.
05:24And he's going to get in their heads.
05:25What are you most excited to see, David Bailey, against the Bucs on Friday night?
05:29Yeah, man.
05:30You know what?
05:31I, being one of Bailey's biggest supporters,
05:33I didn't think he'd be able to come out of the box like this
05:36and just force pressures.
05:37It seems like almost whenever he really wants.
05:40You have veteran offensive tackles and linemen that are having issues
05:44with some of the simplest concepts from David Bailey,
05:46and he's just getting started.
05:48With that said, this secondary needs to do a good enough job
05:53where you're going to allow Bailey and Will McDonald
05:55to be able to do the things that they were doing today.
05:58Kaz, we saw them running those stunts with McDonald and Bailey,
06:02and they kind of go on and off with those,
06:03which is interesting to see, Bailey playing on the inside or McDonald.
06:06Those guys, if you give them enough time,
06:08they'll be able to get to the quarterback, if you give them enough time, though.
06:12It can't always be that Bailey's got to get there in one and a half, two seconds,
06:15or they're going to get the ball out and find someone open.
06:19So that's the one thing I think, whether it's this year, next year, the year after,
06:23I think if this secondary can hold up, you're going to see those guys get home,
06:27and they're going to eat.
06:28They're going to get 20-plus sacks amongst the two of them, if not more.
06:33But Bailey's looked fantastic.
06:35I mean, you never know when you draft someone how they're going to look.
06:38He looks right out of the box like he did at Texas Tech.
06:41I mean, he's giving veterans fits out there, like Haas is saying.
06:44They were pissed off at him all day, it seemed like.
06:47I thought that Marty Davis put it well yesterday.
06:49He said he looks like the number two pick.
06:51Like sometimes guys show up and they don't do that, you know.
06:54He looks like the number two pick.
06:57Final thoughts, guys, and I want to ask this to both of you
07:00because I thought it was interesting, Glenn, today, you had asked him,
07:03what's it been like calling the defensive side of the ball, calling the plays,
07:06and then also managing the game situation?
07:09So I thought it was interesting his answer there, Kaz,
07:11when he did answer that question because that was the two-minute drill,
07:14and that was not pretty for the Jets, obviously, offensively.
07:17So I wonder, like, how he is processing for this for the first time.
07:20He's going to be calling plays, and then, oh, I have to get ready now
07:23for my team's going to be running two-minute offense,
07:25how aggressive we're going to be, where are we on the field
07:27for field goal positioning and whatnot.
07:29So what did you make of his answer there?
07:31Yeah, I think Friday's big for that, Ryan.
07:33I think the preseason for Aaron Glenn is big because he's got to kind of figure out.
07:37He said he's going to surround himself with people that will help him.
07:39So he does have people in the booth in his ear that will tell him, you know,
07:42the timeout situation and challenge situation,
07:45which isn't any different than usually when you're calling,
07:48but when you're not calling the plays.
07:50But, you know, this always stands out to me in my memories.
07:52There was a preseason game when Rex was the coach,
07:55and Mark Sanchez threw an interception, and we asked him about it after the game.
07:58He's like, I didn't see it.
07:59And we're like, what do you mean you didn't see it?
08:00He's like, I was talking to the defense.
08:03And, like, so, like, that's going to happen to Aaron Glenn.
08:06He is going to be talking to the defense when the offense is on the field,
08:10and he's going to miss some stuff on the offensive side of things.
08:13So he's going to need to have Frank Reich.
08:15That's part of his job.
08:17You know, the people that are situational coaches are going to have to help him
08:20with that stuff.
08:21So it's going to be interesting to see how he navigates it.
08:23And I love what Kaz asked Aaron Glenn or told Aaron Glenn to do.
08:27This is the best comment of the day by far.
08:30Kaz goes, I'm getting in trouble with the fans, Frankie.
08:32I love preseason football.
08:34I love preseason football.
08:36Follow him on Twitter.
08:37You'll see how much he loves preseason football.
08:39Ryan, what was the rule?
08:40You know what the rule was?
08:41It was no timeouts, no challenges.
08:43In the fourth quarter.
08:44In the fourth quarter.
08:45In the fourth quarter.
08:46I got places to go.
08:48I got a bedtime.
08:49I'm old.
08:49I can't be out told, you know,
08:50I'd be watching fourth quarter preseason football.
08:53As you can tell, we're getting ready for the regular season here, folks.
08:56This is preseason.
