00:42it was gonna be a scorcher i think it was like 100 degrees on the field with the humidity it
00:46probably felt like uh but this jets team man like what were your biggest takeaways from their win
00:54yesterday biggest takeaways has been a while since we've seen the jets actually dominate a game like
00:59that from the beginning to end i'd say the new england game um in 2024 on the thursday night
01:05you know which was the last win by robert sala ironically for the jets but it's been that since
01:10then really if you think about the wins last year they were all kind of i don't know fluky is
01:15the
01:16word or just kind of weird like they did have the monster comeback in cincinnati they really used
01:22kickoff returns and punt returns against cleveland to win that game and then they had a last second
01:26field goal to beat atlanta so none of those really felt like this this felt like a decisive win now
01:30we'll see i don't think tennessee's very good uh you know you didn't tell me ryan how bad they were
01:36when i made my prediction last week uh i did say they were bad i i said they were not

01:42team i don't think they're you didn't tell me they were that bad nobody told me they were that bad
01:45it was brutal we'll see we'll see you know the thing about week one like wins and losses is they
01:52look different in 10 weeks sometimes and so we'll see if tennessee's really really really bad like
01:57they looked like yesterday then you know this this might not have as much weight as it feels like
02:02right now but the jets took care of business and that's something they haven't done in recent years
02:06and you got to beat the teams you're supposed to beat and this feels like one that they should
02:10the beat so give them credit for sure uh and look i'm i'm old enough to remember the raiders beating
02:16the team that went to the super bowl last year in week one against the patriots so but i i'm

02:21comparing it to that what i would say is is i agree with you it was it was nice to

02:26football it was nice to see them dominate up front and i think that was my biggest takeaway the jets
02:31offensive line is something you had mentioned last week like ryan i'm anxious to see how they hold up
02:35because everyone's giving them tons of praise now look the titans defense at the end of the year
02:40could be one of the worst in the nfl uh but yeah jeff that's one right though i think they're

02:44think the titans defensive line is legit right like that's one where i'm like i'm okay going like yeah
02:49check that box off like because the jeffrey simmons is jeffrey simmons and we know jf and we know
02:55jermaine johnson so they're like and they they weren't coming near gino and then the holes in the
02:59running game so i'm i'm okay like the offensive line deserves all the flower for yesterday
03:03i have questions about like you know if you want to say oh the jet secondary looked good well
03:08i'm not so sure the titans right you know wide receivers and cam ward were the test like we're
03:14we're gonna know a lot more in three weeks about the the jet secondary yeah look and they're gonna
03:18be dealing with some injuries there uh minka fitzpatrick we won't know if he's gonna be out
03:22this week uh he's dealing with a quad injury they're still waiting to determine what that's gonna
03:25look like it's a groin it's a groin i thought it was the quad groin like that area he was
03:30reaching for
03:31i don't think there's any way like i'd be shocked if he plays this week right like soft tissue
03:36injuries you know he might be back in two weeks but he it's very tough to come back in a
03:40week and
03:41that looked like he was in some some pain and they kind of ruled him out fairly quickly so that

03:46me it's a pretty decent injury yeah and look that's a tough blow because he's a quarterback for
03:51their secondary uh but yeah i thought dane belton you know he had to step up uh andre cisco is
03:56obviously going to be have to step up here but uh yeah the offensive line is what i really took
04:01away from yesterday is how dominant they were up front like you said gino had a clean pocket all day
04:06about the offense and how it was called by frank reich we got our first sample of that yesterday and

04:12and i again i go back to what you mentioned about how do they adjust at halftime first half guys

04:18leaned on that that that jets offensive line they were running the ball really well and trying to
04:22round and pound them they come out in the second half and they start off back to back play action
04:27passes because they knew the titans were going to be aggressive probably thinking that the jets were
04:31going to come out with a run so i thought you know what it's nice to see a coach maybe
04:36making some
04:36adjustments and like hey i think they're actually going to probably be trying to defend the run a
04:40little bit more let's take advantage of that so what did you make and what did you take away
04:44from the jets offense yeah i loved what frank reich did really that there was hard to find many
04:51complaints um with how he called the game i thought the first drive was excellent set the tone right
04:56there he has the little screen to sadiq earlier in the drive and the third down crosser to cooper was
05:02was perfect and then the touchdown that's a player we've seen them run in practice when sadiq was
05:06practicing early in camp all the time so uh it was good to see that and then um you know
05:13the drive
05:14the 19 play drive it ends in a field goal so it's really not you can't go crazy about it
05:20but i thought
05:21it was just so impressive all the runs and you know when braylon allen comes i think it's the
05:26beginning of the second quarter they put braylon allen in and boom he goes through the line right
05:30and then the second night goes boom he goes through the line well then he goes from a third time
05:34and
05:34then a fourth time four runs in a row and it was like because how many times we watched jets
05:41football
05:41where a guy is rattling off like five yards of carry and then they decide to either put him on
05:46the bench
05:47or throw it right like they're they go you can't just keep doing what's working over and over and
05:51over again like i love that sequence where they do the four plays and he called 14 runs out of

05:56plays so i like that and then like you mentioned he shifts he shifts into you know um shot mode

06:03the in the third quarter with we hit going down the field to garrett and to mitchell so yeah i
06:09thought
06:09all around really really well done by by frank reich and you know the problems on offense were penalties
06:16really that that that's what kind of killed them and that held them back for having a bigger day you
06:20know that held them back from probably even winning by more points yesterday i mean i thought there was
06:25a lot even left on the field when it came to the offensive side yeah this game should have been
06:3040 to
06:30three yeah when you really think about it like i think they left 17 points on the field in the
06:35first
06:35half i thought you know they should have finished that 19 play drive off with a touchdown i thought they
06:41should have had points after the kickoff the fumbled kickoff by tennessee and they get the
06:45ball around the 45-ish 40 go down and score there and then i thought the two minute you at
06:50least get
06:50a field goal when you get the ball with 110 left and they messed that up so they left some
06:55points on
06:55the field um but that's a good thing you know they won the game like you know and and they
07:00they didn't
07:01they still feel like there's still another level for them to play better right and that's i think
07:05something you have to take out as a jets fan myself i'm looking forward to is is like can they
07:10build
07:10on this and and make a more solidified offense because i think the the baseline is here right if
07:18they can run the ball effectively like they did against other opponents it's going to set up a lot
07:22of what they want to do geno smith clean pocket all day you mentioned very decisive you know took
07:29some shots when he had the the chances to i think he had some nice scrambles as well when he

07:34flustered flustered out of the pocket what did you ultimately take away from geno's week one
07:38performance yeah just extremely accurate right like i thought he was on the money all day if you
07:44look i think he had what i have the stats here he had five incompletions right correct 19 to 24
07:48off the top of my head off the top of my head aaron smith dropped the pass right mason taylor

07:54taylor dropped that pass that was reviewed as a fumble yeah uh he at the in the two minute warning
07:59he kind of scrambled and threw it out of bounds when nobody was open so that's three incompletions
08:05right there and the other two i can't remember off the top of my head was the garrett uh pass
08:11deep cross and garrett drops it because he had it in his hands on the diving catch early in the
08:16game
08:16yeah and i think he had a dirt once here right i think there was a there was like a
08:19screen that
08:19hit the dirt so it wasn't like he was sailing passes all over the field that they were he was
08:24missing
08:24wide open receivers and they were all good throws so that was that's what really stood out to me
08:29about gino is just how accurate he looked yeah no doubt cause and i completely agree with you
08:33uh breeze hall was another thing you know 100 yards rushing for him he looked good in the second half

08:39think he really started getting cook in there and the change up from braylon allen to breeze we saw
08:43a lot of elements of that really impressive omar cooper dealing with an ankle injury after that big
08:48catch on third down tough blow for the rookie uh talk about him what you saw just on that play

08:55and also kenyan sadiq 20 miles per hour cause no jets tight end in the in the next gen stats

09:02has ever reached that that top mileage of 20 miles per hour on that end around it just shows off

09:08freakish ability that kid's got yeah yeah with cooper right i thought you know it was a great play on
09:14third down um and it kind of shows you i know you know the whole topic in training camp
09:20power doesn't translate in training camp speed does right so because they're trying to eliminate
09:25as much power as they can in training camp there's no hitting you know there's no real hitting there's
09:30there's no tackling like they're trying to keep people healthy so i think he's a player that with
09:35you know he's a guy who breaks tackles and he we saw the block on the first play you know
09:40i think
09:40is going around social media now where he had he elante taylor he knocks to the ground so you know

09:47think he he's we people overreacted to training camp because he's not a burner and he's not so
09:53that that's what kind of shows up in camp so i thought that was a great play wish we could

09:56seen more from him it stinks that he left after that and again if you know i mean i'm gonna

10:02he's gonna be out for a little while with an ankle sprain so then with uh sadiq yeah i think

10:08he's freakish right three four three nine speed with that body is hard to believe and uh i think
10:16there's a lot of ways that they're gonna use them and we saw that that that play is one and
10:20i think they're now you're just gonna add on and add on like he didn't play a ton yesterday because
10:26he's coming back from the injury but i think now each week they'll add a little bit more and you'll
10:30see probably a full complement by week four or something like that with sadiq it's uh it's exciting
10:35stuff for the young kids uh cooper like you said hope he can get back get some more reps for

10:40sadiq i'm looking forward to seeing them continuing build them into this offense let's switch the
10:44defensive side of the ball because we got aaron glenn's first taste of calling this jets defense
10:48uh you could tell how aggressive they were going to be they were blitzing early and often it felt
10:53like against the young quarterback in cam ward they ended up with three sacks on him they pressured him
10:57a bunch what did you see from glenn's defense yesterday yeah just swarming i thought they were you
11:03know like you said they were that never looked comfortable he almost looked like he was looking to run
11:08like he was counting like one two and then he was taking off running a few blitzes that were you
11:13know i
11:13thought the blitz with az thomas coming off the edge was an interesting one um you know i think
11:20they they really didn't have to blitz that much after like when the game got away i had to start
11:24playing a little more conservative but yeah lots of pressure um you know i thought they dominated the
11:30defensive line dominated the titans offensive line which is kind of what we expected they held up
11:34against the run they shut that down um and then they got a lot of time off ryan i mean
11:40the whole
11:40the second quarter the titans ran three plays like that's incredible yeah um so you know they and
11:48the heat was no joke in that in the post-game locker room like everyone was they were like
11:55you could tell they were zapped like they were excited but you could tell like i saw like they
12:00were talking i was talking to gary wilson who grew up in texas and he was like the heat was
12:04incredible
12:05like it was it was just unbelievable like the helmet was sticking to his head with it was
12:10he and then i saw two jets staffers who were on the sideline and they said like they had never
12:16felt
12:16anything like it um they got it was all just sucking down gatorade in the post-game locker room
12:22so hook me up with the iv coach and some gatorades like get me going that 19 play drive where

12:28were just leaning on the titans defense i think just you know kind of wore them out that was that
12:32was a
12:33huge sequence no doubt cause uh and like you said they didn't feel like they needed a blitz as much
12:38but they did uh and i think that's again part of glenn's mo he's going to be aggressive in those
12:43situations especially with the younger quarterback who he's going to try and see and test them and and
12:48and his throws were very errant he was not very accurate at all uh and they made him uncomfortable
12:53look i think one of my biggest takeaways besides how much they up dominated up front was will mcdonald
12:59turned into that pass rush specialist you saw the spin move he had on the sack i don't know how

13:03wasn't a safety but him being able to rotate in the in the way he was yesterday they're going to
13:10get
13:10outside back in the next couple weeks i could see this developing into three four rushers that you feel
13:17confident in to make to make the quarterback uncomfortable cause
13:22yeah um yeah i think they have a nice rotation on the outside for sure um and yeah i'm getting
13:29those side back will be huge so um yeah i think that's going to be a strength of this team

13:35the defensive line and uh we're gonna have to see how the secondary holds up that's going to be the
13:40key is is can they make the quarterback double clutch and give that those pass rushers a chance to get
13:47there next week they're going up against a you would think a much more high octane offense with
13:52the green bay packers compared to the tennessee titans uh special teams i want to hit on this
13:57quickly there were two things that i noticed one was very obvious in the kicker situation with
14:03sanders obviously being the the kicker yesterday misses that big one to start one of the worst kicks
14:09i've ever seen but then give him i have to give him credit cause he hit some field goals after
14:13that
14:14yeah so what did you make of that situation yesterday i think he gets another week right
14:19i'm not going past that but i think he gets another week on the job um and i was watching
14:25in the warm-ups and he was hitting them from 50 55 was like barely uh he was hitting some
14:31from like
14:3250 52 that were good and then you know one was an ugly knuckleball uh but then he was solid
14:38after
14:38that so yeah i think you gotta give him a chance i don't know what group he's doing behind the
14:42scenes but clearly it wasn't good last week it went back to sanders so i think he gets another
14:48week on the job and then the other thing i noticed for me and i'm sure you saw it too
14:52uh
14:53qantas stiggers he's turning into a real special teams weapon for them i saw the post game they gave
14:58him a game ball too this guy seems to be developing into something what have you seen from stiggers
15:05mccrary ball had the forced fumble yeah it's pretty important special yeah look like we saw last year
15:09they did a really good special teams unit last year that continues and yeah these guys who like
15:14make plays in special teams which is huge stiggers knocked the blocker into dk on that one punt was
15:21that was a big play and then and then they get the fumble where mccrary ball forces it and stiggers
15:27recovers it yeah i they didn't need those that much yesterday right and they ended up not taking
15:33advantage of the fumble but at some point that's going to come into play no doubt no doubt and i
15:38think it's
15:39going to be key for them is to continue into like those guys that they can find and they're bottom
15:43of the roster guys but they key contributors on special teams it really elevates everything and
15:48gives them opportunities that they needed uh overall aaron glenn managing it first half i thought was a
15:55little rough what did you make of his day yesterday overall as a head coach and calling the defense
16:00i thought he had a good day i i got the end of the half thing but it was kind
16:05of wonky the end of
16:06the half i'm not sure that was all on aaron glenn right because he had the catch on the sideline
16:11by mitchell and they stopped the clock and then they reviewed to see the catch and then they
16:15realized they shouldn't have stopped the clock so he had to take the time at his last time out there
16:19to prevent the 10 second runoff then they uh gino made a poor decision if you want to find one
16:25thing
16:25to rip on gino that throwing it on first down with no timeouts in the middle of the field
16:29was a bad decision garrett's all the way down the field so he's running 40 yards back to the line

16:34scrimmage he's not set when gino's gonna clock the ball so then there's six seconds and i didn't
16:40understand his explanation after the game like he didn't want to try home air because it looked like
16:44it certainly looked like they were lining up to try something so i didn't get that so but other than
16:48that right i thought it was i didn't see any management issues that were any problems yeah look
16:54uh it's it couldn't have gotten better in terms of what you saw last year compared to comparatively
16:59it's a week one here i don't know how much stock we can put into this after one win because

17:05feels in in my opinion yesterday they took a step in the right direction and it looks a lot better
17:12and look a lot more professional beating up on a team that you were supposed you maybe not supposed
17:17to but you should have beat and i i think that's what was impressive to me at for the most

17:22beats the alternative right because you'd be freaking out if they lost so that start there but i also
17:29think right like last year they played really well against pittsburgh in week one and they but they
17:33found a way to lose now pittsburgh was a better team than titan the titans i think this year still
17:39it's 10-3 at halftime and i think you're sitting there at halftime going man like the jets should be
17:44up by and it should at least be 17 to 3 right now not not 10 to 3 and oh
17:50my god they gotta let let this
17:52team back in it and the titans get the ball to start the second half and they have put together

17:57little drive they actually started moving the ball there and then the jets get the stop and then they
18:01go down and score and it felt like the game was over at that point so i thought it took
18:07a while but
18:07they finally stepped on their throats to win the game which was a positive sign that we didn't see
18:13last year when when they had some games they could have won and they couldn't close them out
