00:00This program is unsuitable for young children.
00:40Beyond the Tape will be back after these messages.
01:15That's a night.
01:17Watch now this.
01:34Good evening Trinidad and Tobago international audience and of course our brothers and sisters in Grenada.
01:40This is Beyond the Tape. I'm your host Whitney Husbands.
01:43Now first of all let me send some love to Tobago.
01:45Tobago is love. I had the opportunity to be in Tobago early this morning into this afternoon.
01:51And it was a pleasure being there from everyone that I met.
01:53From Frank also to persons who were able to let us know that they enjoyed the show so much.
02:00We appreciate you.
02:01Now we are never in a moment where it is we could say we have a ease.
02:07Reason being there are no dull moments on the show.
02:09Once a week we see something that pops up that make us say this surely came out from a movie.
02:14We will discuss this and more but of course joining me each and every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
02:19We have our favorite co-host ASB Russell here with us.
02:23Good evening to you sir.
02:24Good evening Miss Husbands.
02:25You forget that sometimes all week.
02:27Good evening Miss Husbands.
02:28I didn't want to push it. I'm being honest. I didn't want to push it.
02:31I was going to her and I was like you know what let me just make sure he keeps that
02:35smile on his face.
02:36But you said it so that means it's going to come to life.
02:39Good evening Miss Husbands.
02:42Trinidad can I give her a compliment please without you all thinking anything crazy.
02:46You look beautiful in your dress today.
02:47Thank you sir.
02:49Good evening.
02:49Is it a bagel globe?
02:50Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, our international.
02:53Viewers on behalf of our Commissioner of Police, Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners and First and Second Division Officers of the
02:59Trinidad and Tobago Police Service as usual.
03:02It's a pleasure to be here and stand by for a great show.
03:07Yes it's going to be a fantastic one.
03:08Were you in the, you were playing in any powder last evening?
03:12No I was.
03:14You had the opportunity to take our national instrument.
03:17Actually when I left here I went to the gym.
03:19You know gym is very important to me.
03:21So I went to the gym.
03:22And at an early morning because you know I do double duties on media on a Thursday.
03:29It should be just one.
03:30But you know I like what I'm seeing here.
03:33It just goes to show when we want to be loving, calm, joyful, happy we could do so.
03:40Yes.
03:40We have to understand the gem that Trinidad and Tobago is you know.
03:46I don't even think that we fully grasp this country yet you know.
03:52And how beautiful here could be and what we have to offer.
03:57Well I can tell you the city was alive with our national instrument, the beautiful instrument.
04:03We call the steel pan and of course you must have a little powder.
04:07When you have mass you must have powder you know.
04:10Well I am not into the powder, the mud, the oil.
04:16Only if it's where?
04:17No I want to, no not even if it's there.
04:20I want to come out in the prettiness where it's bright and I can really see everybody.
04:27To be alert.
04:28Yes to be alert.
04:29Alright.
04:30Now I mentioned a few minutes ago when we opened with regards to something happening coming out of a movie.
04:36And let's just say this is something that we spoke about literally.
04:40I believe it was yesterday a caller call and was speaking of persons breaking the red light.
04:44But in this case let's just mention this.
04:48A ttps was there, they were close by and they were able to see what transpired and then we saw
04:54everything played out movie style.
04:57Yeah yeah yeah and well I wish the driver a speedy recovery first and foremost.
05:06I, from what I recognize, I observed one of the government's brand new vehicle, the electric vehicle, brand new, brand
05:18new.
05:24And this is just the, this is what we have here, the end result, you'll see the damage of the
05:29brand new vehicle that we're seeing there and the person who, oh jeez.
05:34Yeah, because the officers were on patrol and let's me speak about increasing visibility.
05:41So what did happen, what you recognize there, they were observing, they observed the driver put down a particular type
05:47of drive chasing sued.
05:51Bulletin.
05:52Bulletin.
05:52Yes, I sure they gave them alert and they didn't call it.
05:54Cut off vehicle.
05:55Yeah.
05:56It's just that he ran into the cut off vehicle and I mean.
06:00Expense there, no?
06:03Serious expense there, no?
06:04That's another vehicle from our fleet.
06:06Now let me ask you this, in this case this person clearly broke some serious laws there.
06:13The offenses that we are seeing before us, what could be the charges for this individual?
06:19Well, based on what I've heard, you know, I understand he lacked some sort of documentation, so we'll start there.
06:25So that's why you can ask him.
06:26It would be dangerous and reckless driving and it's, it's going to be a cost, it's going to be heavy.
06:34And you may have to pay back for the TPS vehicle.
06:38Maybe we'll have to, yeah, well, the sad part of it, and just if, I'm just saying just if, because
06:44I don't have all the information, right?
06:47If he is not, and that's the thing about it, eh?
06:52The insurance only insures a driver with a driver's permit.
06:59So even though the vehicle has insurance, because that individual, if that individual is not the whole of a valid
07:08or issued driver's permit, then that person is not insured.
07:14Yeah.
07:15But, I mean, you don't have the lights and they can just pull over.
07:20Oh, look what you caused.
07:22Well, I, you know what, two mishusbands, and it just goes to show there are a lot of persons out
07:27there who are taking chances, and of the opinion, I wouldn't get caught.
07:33He may have been doing it for quite some time.
07:35Yeah, but you're worse off position now, because if the police realize they know pursuing you, and you say, all
07:41right, let me pull on your shoulder, because you don't have your documents.
07:44Yeah.
07:45Look what happened now.
07:46This is, you could be facing some serious jail time.
07:49And you're now in a hospital.
07:51And then your life at risk.
07:52And as you say, plenty days for teeth and one day for police.
07:55So I guess today was the day for the police.
07:57But he left, in his wake of his excitement, a lot of carnage on the nation's roadway.
08:03So he damaged two vehicles.
08:05It's just, and, you know, I wonder what his relatives and his loved ones are already saying now.
08:10And now you're putting them in debt, because who's going to help you?
08:13More than likely the same family members.
08:15Well, not only that.
08:16You're looking at charge.
08:17You're looking at bail-eye.
08:18You're looking at lawyer.
08:19When you could have just pulled that money.
08:22Not even that.
08:24Make the sacrifice and put that money towards obtaining your job's permit.
08:27No, but, ASP, even if that is the case, right, but she is already in the wrong.
08:31All right, you see, police pursuing you.
08:34You went and said, I'm a pullover.
08:35What would be the case of being or receiving a ticket if you don't have a valid insurance or a
08:43license?
08:44Yeah, I hear that.
08:45But sometimes persons don't think before the act, and they believe that...
08:50You're carrying drugs, are you getting on there?
08:52I don't know why he thought he could have outrun the police.
08:55I don't know what was his thinking at the point in time.
08:59I would love to know.
09:00An expired permit?
09:01I don't know if it was expired, if it was ever issued, but I know there was some document he
09:06was lacking.
09:07And then look at this.
09:08You're worse off now.
09:10Now, we had the situation with the bomb threats that took place yesterday.
09:14Any updates now that you could give us, if you have any at all?
09:18No, not at this moment, but another organization within the government ministry, they also received one today as well.
09:29So I don't know who is behind it, and I would like you to stop, because we will find you.
09:34We will find you shortly.
09:36We will find you, because it is very, very, very disruptive, Miss Husbands, and a bomb threat is no joke.
09:44Is this under, like, a terrorist act?
09:46Yes.
09:47Will it fall under you there?
09:48Yeah, but speak to terrorism as well.
09:51I don't know what is the person's intention behind it.
09:54I don't know if it's the same people.
09:56Yeah, but it's just so disruptive.
09:59What is the humor?
10:00What is the enjoyment?
10:01What are you getting out of that?
10:04This is what I would like to know.
10:07To what end?
10:09Planting seeds of fear, I assume, is something that they're trying to place in the hearts of the nation.
10:16I don't know, Miss Husband, and I hear you, but the amount of resources that we have to now get
10:21is a cordon, it's fire services, it's the police services, it's the bomb squad, it's the bomb dog.
10:27It's the amount of resources we have to engage just to make safe that particular property again.
10:35Oh, my gosh.
10:37I mean, as you always say, we have to try to do better.
10:40We are in a state where it's not normal.
10:44The country doesn't feel normal.
10:46Persons are acting out in serious ways.
10:48We're seeing road rage where it is spiking.
10:51And it is clear a lot of people are extremely angry out there.
10:55And apart from that, we are dealing with the crime situation within the country.
11:00And I saw also that the Minister of Homeland Security was stating they're going to be the mobile posts.
11:08Some of them will not be mobile.
11:10It will be permanent.
11:11So, we will see how things go with that because we're seeing maybe some response.
11:16I'm going to assist with that.
11:18And persons are happy for it.
11:19I understand also persons who actually brace me a resident in the Urapun area who said that they want a
11:26police post in that area, even though they're different police stations around the area.
11:32The Minister of Homeland Security has, he himself has indicated that there were persons calling him as well.
11:38Well, whilst I was on the program yesterday, I got a request on my phone as another area that they
11:42suggest that one should be in as well, you know.
11:45So, I am, whilst some persons are looking at it negatively, I am happy to see how many persons are
11:53really embracing it and look forward to that safer feeling throughout their communities as a result of the deployment of
12:01these police posts.
12:02And, you know, as things go on, we continue to improve, continue to tweak, continue to analyze and, you know,
12:06make sure that we're getting the best bang for the buck.
12:09And you look at that situation today that occurred on the highway.
12:12There's a cutoff of that vehicle being strategically placed there in that archery.
12:17That's usually placed all the time.
12:19So, anything coming out of Port of Spain that happens, we always have a vehicle there that could do a
12:24cutoff and stuff like that.
12:26Even if you get a flat and all.
12:28And these are some of the things that persons would benefit from with respect to the police posts being strategically
12:34placed throughout the country.
12:35But I hope you could pass that on to the relevant authorities.
12:39I'm delivering the message from the lady.
12:42She said, Oropun needs that police post.
12:45Oropun needs a police post.
12:46All right, so send that message on.
12:48Now, this is skills on skills.
12:50And persons, if you're not paying attention, you could end up like this because wrecking is happening throughout the country.
12:57Look, you all look at this.
12:59Watch your skills.
13:00This is in St. James, a popular spot.
13:05And the person clearly was not supposed to be parked where we are seeing this vehicle overlaunch.
13:14Woo!
13:17These wreckers are experts.
13:21They have their masters in wrecking.
13:24Watch this, smooth.
13:28And in this case, more than likely, the person is parked too close to the corner because I know that
13:34street very well.
13:36And if you're not looking at the markings, you will be wrecked as we're seeing here.
13:42But with this video, I'm sure Jackie could take us back just a little bit after this.
13:49It's that I didn't really see the officer come out and announce, I'm not saying to walk into stores.
13:55Because you know, ASP will come and say that they want people to walk in and knock on doors to
14:00say who parked there.
14:01But I did not see, as usual, I always tell you that.
14:04And I've witnessed it with my own two eyes that the officers sometimes don't come out and announce anything.
14:10They just jump out, take out their phone, snap and wreck.
14:18So, this is a legal drive that this wrecker is doing here.
14:22This is very dangerous.
14:24This is very reckless.
14:25You will recognize that there's a vehicle block in the arm, the path of the wrecker.
14:31That's a reckless if you're reversing across the major road.
14:36That's a bit reckless though.
14:38Across the major road.
14:39That's a bit reckless there.
14:41Right.
14:41Where was the announcement?
14:46Maybe there wasn't any announcement.
14:48I mean, based on what I'm seeing in the video, we don't know what happened before.
14:52But as I'm seeing in the video here, there wasn't any announcement.
14:56Right?
14:58That's the one I'm going to say.
14:58No, no, no.
14:59I just, I know you said that usually they will make an anonymous word.
15:03It's in the law that they're supposed to really, you know, just make some checks to see.
15:07But the law does not say you have to check ten places, five places, six places, you know.
15:13But what then, in this case, what should be done?
15:16It's just, who owns this vehicle?
15:19The driver of this vehicle?
15:21And no one comes out, says anything, then wreck?
15:24Or they could just wreck?
15:26No, well, if somebody comes out, then the thing about it, you are supposed to issue them a fixed penalty
15:30ticket.
15:31And if the vehicle is in the process like that, being hooked up, and the person comes is supposed to
15:36still issue them a fixed penalty ticket.
15:39But in most cases, the ticket costs more than the wreck.
15:44Yes, and you might have told you that I had a friend who got wrecked, and the officer was very
15:49nice, by the way, very, very nice.
15:52And he said, if I, what's that?
15:53You got a best wreck.
15:54Well, I don't know about all of that, but he said, if I release it, you'll pay more than just
16:03going to collect your vehicle.
16:06So, it got wrecked.
16:08It was cheaper with it being wrecked than receiving the fixed penalty.
16:11Because I believe the fixed penalty is $2,000, if I'm not mistaken.
16:14If they release it, then you will end up paying more.
16:18So, the best thing to do, to not pay anything, is to park properly in an area that was so
16:25designated for parking.
16:28But I know we have some improvements to make on street signs as well.
16:32This is really terrible.
16:33Because especially like in places in Henry Street, I mean, I've had a lot of complaints like that when I
16:37was in Complaints Division,
16:40where the sign is at the bottom of Henry Street.
16:42So, if you access Henry Street from Duke Street, you wouldn't see the sign.
16:46You wouldn't see the sign.
16:47Yeah, we have a signage problem.
16:48So, we need to really improve, make that improvement on the road with respect to signage.
16:55That is of significant importance and something that we should look at in the near future.
17:01So, you all could use this question sometimes with that.
17:03Because it's clear that you didn't see the sign.
17:05All right, it's time for us to take a look at what's making our SOE update today as of August
17:1020th, 2026.
17:12Number of operations, 11,902.
17:16Number of targets prior to offenders, 3,052.
17:20Searches conducted, 4,228.
17:24Traffic operations, 7,324.
17:27Total persons arrested, 5,250.
17:32Total persons charged, 1,258.
17:37Firearms recovered, we're seeing an increase with the revolvers, giving us a total of 292.
17:43Ammunition recovered, we're seeing an increase with the 12 gauge, also the 5.56 and the 0.38, giving us
17:52a total of 5,899.
17:54And dangerous drugs seized, we're seeing an increase with the cannabis and cocaine.
17:59Yes, B?
18:00When you look at those figures for the year, it's really, really alarming, you know?
18:05Yes.
18:06It is really, really alarming.
18:09And to know that we still haven't seized all that are out there.
18:17It's really, really a cause for concern.
18:20And I want to take this opportunity to really encourage the public.
18:24I don't believe we'll ever get all, but we need to get as much as we can,
18:30and we could do much more better than this if we have the assistance of the public.
18:34So when you're sitting down in the gallery, or you're just looking through the window,
18:37and you see them putting it down in the bush,
18:40or hiding it under the old vehicle on the road,
18:42or putting it in the garbage can, or behind the garbage can,
18:44wherever they decide it, 800-655-5999,
18:48just give us a call and say, hey, you know, don't give us your name.
18:53We don't want your name.
18:54Just tell us where, if you know who, and where they placed the item.
19:01And we would thank you for that.
19:03Alright, it's time for us to take a look at what's making today's headlines.
19:54And those are your stories making today's headlines.
19:57Just a reminder for persons in the library area,

20:09come out, sorry, and talk to your officers,

20:18be present.

23:25Hi, good evening.
23:26Hi, good evening caller.
23:27How are you?
23:29Okay.
23:29Good evening, sir.
23:31Yes.
23:32Good evening, sir.
23:34I would like to hear
23:35Jack and everyone
23:36who lost a feed in Nam.
23:39I was in my entire radio
23:41to feed everyone
23:42in Port of Paine.
23:44Do you remember that?
23:45Yes.
23:45But it does been.
23:46Yeah, it does been.
23:49Yes, sir.
23:50Yes, yes.
23:53I...
23:53Yes.
23:54But it does been.
23:55Yeah, no.
23:56He's asking if anybody
23:56was ever held for that.
23:59That is a while ago.
24:01I would have to do
24:02some research on that
24:03to find out
24:03if we ever held anybody
24:05for that.
24:05Okay.
24:07Do you have a...
24:08Do you have a...
24:13Do you have a...
24:37So, he supports the wrecking?
24:41That's great.
24:41No, but I mean...
24:42All right, then.
24:42You might have
24:43persons living in the area.
24:44Thank you, caller.
24:45I am not...
24:45Thank you, caller.
24:46I am certain that
24:47you and me have had
24:47many complaints
24:48with persons
24:49sparked, um...
24:51ASP.
24:52In a particular manner
24:53that would have...
24:53ASP.
24:54Hamburg, disturbed
24:55the free flow of traffic
24:57and the ease...
24:59No, but when he said
24:59that, why are you watching
25:00me like the person
25:01shouldn't have been wrecked?
25:04My husband's...
25:05No, I'm trying to understand.
25:06You feel like what you like that?
25:07Yes.
25:08You sure?
25:09I agree.
25:09If you're parking
25:10in the wrong place,
25:11you must get wrecked.
25:11We have a caller.
25:12Caller, good evening.
25:15Hello?
25:17Hi, good evening.
25:18Good evening, caller.
25:19Hi, good evening.
25:20Good evening, sir.
25:21I was, um...
25:222.3.4.
25:24Mm-hmm.
25:26So...
25:27We're going to have
25:28to do this
25:28in Westwood.
25:31So, we...
25:32Christmas after 15.
25:35Then after...
25:35I lost...
25:37And every one of them
25:38and some towns
25:41or British
25:42I crashed
25:43the report
25:44to increase
25:444.4.
25:46Now,
25:46anything you need
25:47to demand
25:47by the power
25:49of the 4.4.
25:52And, you know,
25:54I often get to
25:55get to
25:56go on to the case
25:58and they have
25:58that character
25:59because
25:59anyone have
26:01officers
26:01who hold
26:03and they make
26:04my child's
26:05a very clear
26:06of consultation.
26:07And, you know,
26:08there is a way
26:08that we can
26:09go on to the
26:10right now.
26:12instructions
26:12and folks.
26:14That is what.
26:16Number two.
26:18We can't
26:19not be that
26:20for this
26:22when we
26:23control that
26:24because we're
26:24ready to
26:25want to
26:25let's have
26:25them.
26:28Why does
26:28that give
26:29the answer
26:30to great
26:32the chance
26:32like that
26:33the enemy
26:34cannot
26:34even
26:35let's
26:36need
26:36an
26:37And why can't they let somebody like us as a boy
26:39for a little bit of a little bit, especially at this time,
26:42to cause us, uh, in our city, they turn on to be closed.
26:45And for us to reach out, as a second point.
26:50And you think what is the number I told you to be in a school?
26:55Now, we, in a particular area,
26:58where our country is now where we start, right?
27:02And we thought you'd sit in the class yet.
27:04You know what?
27:07You know what?
27:08The number I told you is,
27:10is that the people that are in the country,
27:14and the people that are in the country,
27:15and the people that are in the country.
27:16You can't even be muffled on the last one.
27:18Could you repeat the last?
27:19Could you start off on the last one?
27:21The Polish Jibia del Sikoro.
27:23You came in a bit muffled.
27:24Okay.
27:25We have the master political path.
27:33On an old standard.
27:36Now, it's not all right.
27:39But if you can then,
27:40it's not all right.
27:41well, I'm going to take part from the full way.
27:43I would now be a trainer that the speaker should part
27:47on the entire council.
27:48So when I'm talking about the clerical way to the country,
27:51if the entire speaker's part is taking inside the council,
28:10Yes, thank you so much, Kohler. ASP, where you would like to start?
28:14All right, Kohler, let me start with the first point. I can recognize my screen, but let me take it
28:19while it's hot in my head.
28:21I understand that, yes, indeed, there will be some level of strain, as you spoke about, with respect to demand
28:28power, but 200-plus officers recently, 232 to be exact, passed out this week, and they, too, will help bolster
28:37the strength.
28:37So it may not be that much of a strain, and I believe crime deterrent is a big part of
28:45it, and visibility is a big contributor to crime deterrents, looking at public safety, pillar number four.
28:53And we get to marry that with the community partnership by where they are placed as well, because they are
28:58placed not only for public safety and reduction of crime, but also for engagement in the community.
29:04So we're hoping that by placing the officers closer to the persons, we see a reduction, a significant and immediate
29:12reduction.
29:13With respect to vacation leave, officers are allowed to take vacation leave.
29:18If you're looking at one of them here, I love vacation leave, Kohler.
29:22Who doesn't?
29:22So, we are just, what is Jackie laughing at, I'm here, and Jackie, come back here.
29:29Is one coming soon?
29:31We're just, you know, managing it a little better, you know, to make sure that we still have our sufficient
29:36force to tend to the needs of the public.
29:38So persons are indeed allowed to go on vacation leave.
29:40The vehicle's being escorted, the heavy equipment, and I don't know why they're breaking the light.
29:45To be honest, I think it's something that we should not practice, because it's not an emergency.
29:49It's not an emergency.
29:50And the escort is only there because it's mandated in law, due to the size of the vehicle that they're
29:56escorted, that due to the size of the vehicle that they are moving, that they are mandated to pay for
30:01an extra duty to get an escort.
30:03And with respect to the GB and police vehicles being parked outside, and I understand because that in itself is
30:09a threat.
30:11But some vehicles, due to the size of the vehicles, because a lot of our buildings, a lot of our
30:17facilities, how to put it, boy, don't have the capacity to pack all of the vehicles.
30:23And you will see police vehicles.
30:26And certain, and I know you said you see private cars as well, there are certain officers, and once you
30:31have a certain rank, you're a traveling officer, etc., you are given permission to pack on the compound of the
30:39police station.
30:40If you'll remove the wrecked vehicles, you'll have a lot of space to pack.
30:43As you say wrecked vehicle, Ms. Husband, I want to say good afternoon to Mr. Giff, Senior Sub Giff, Superintendent
30:50Jai Karan, ASP Joshua Pierre, and the persons in Charlotte of the North Central.
30:58I passed, I was in a position where I got to take a view of the St. Joseph police station
31:06this morning, and I observed all the wrecked cars.
31:09I thought of you this morning, all the wrecked cars, somewhere around that area, they are gone.
31:15I felt so good, it warmed my heart.
31:18I sure it brought some ease to your officers as well.
31:21Listen, the place just looks so nice and clean and light and clear.
31:26Good job, Mr. Giff, you and your team.
31:30Maybe you could share it with the rest of the police service so that we could keep the exercise rolling.
31:36Yes.
31:36But that was, that's a good job, and I really, I love the house.
31:39Is it St. Joseph?
31:40Yes, St. Joseph police station.
31:42I love how the area looks.
31:44Yes.
31:44A job well done.
31:45You all keep up the good work.
31:46I mean, as you said, you all are trying.
31:48And that's all we can ask for.
31:49Of course, Mr. Husband.
31:49We'll continue pushing through.
31:50We take that break.
31:51We'll be back.
31:52As parents and teachers, we came together to establish the National Council of Parent-Teacher Association
31:58because we firmly believe that there is greater strength in unity.
32:02Today, our schools face real challenges, bullying, violence, and fear.
32:09No parent should send a child to school and wonder if they will be safe.
32:14No teacher should walk into a classroom afraid of losing control.
32:19That's why we welcome the Trinidad and Tobago police service into our schools.
32:25They bring expertise.
32:27They bring skill.
32:29And most importantly, they bring the reassurance that learning can happen in peace.
32:34We believe in unity.
32:36Now we are stronger.
32:38We are on board with the police.
32:41The School-Oriented Policing Initiative.
32:44Securing our schools.
32:46Securing our future.

34:32And we are back.
34:33This evening into tonight.
34:35All right?
34:36ASP, we are realizing that we are having some issues when it comes to elder abuse in the country.
34:43Yeah.
34:44And we have seen videos upon videos where even the criminal elements, they have no respect for those when it
34:51comes to the elderly in our society and those that we can't see and how they are treated.
34:56And I understand on Wednesday in the media briefing that Acton ASP Jones was able to speak more on that.
35:05And I want you all to take a listen to this.
35:08Elder abuse is something that is of concern to me because I grew up with some of the older heads.
35:15And I have value in the elders in society because they paved that road for us to work on, which
35:21I'm enjoying right now.
35:23In terms of where they are abused, usually we share those investigations with our station partners.
35:29And I say that because you may have a scenario of elder abuse that stems from domestic violence in the
35:35sense of it being an intimate partner scenario.
35:38So that falls within the limit of the Special Victims Department.
35:41If it's a case of elder abuse where that elderly person is abused for, let's say, a relative is taking
35:49their pension and they cannot access their senior citizen's grant.
35:56And they are held in a scenario where that grant, they are only held there for the benefit of that
36:01grant.
36:02That can enter the realms of trafficking in persons.
36:06And that can be also investigated by the counter-trafficking unit.
36:10You have scenarios where elder abuse may become a result of a relative who's just violent and behaving in a
36:18manner to abuse the adult.
36:20That can be investigated, whether it be by one of our CID departments, whether it be at a station.
36:25So it depends on the scenario and the evidence how it flows.
36:28It can be directed accordingly and referred for the appropriate investigation.
36:32From all indications, it does not appear to us that there is an increase in elder abuse.
36:38But I give the assurance that if we have those reports, they will be investigated.
36:41And I say that because I recall a particular case, and I'll mention it, about two years ago in my
36:47former dispensationality department,
36:48where we had a case of a victim who was in her 80s, late 80s, and the offender was 90
36:55years old.
36:56And there was a protection order against him.
36:59And in this 90-year-old state, he was seriously abusing his wife.
37:03And he was investigated and charged by our then Northern Division gender-based violence unit.
37:10Persons who may be in a state of domestic servitude, and it's not what we are here for, but it
37:14falls within the line of human trafficking,
37:16is that sometimes it is difficult to reach into the household, into that setting, to even get access to that
37:23person.
37:24But wherever someone has the suspicion, you don't need to have evidence, you know.
37:29Once you have the suspicion of this crime taking place, of course, to be reported, you don't even have to
37:33disclose who you are.
37:34We have a number of anonymous means of reporting to the police.
37:37And once those reports are received, they will be investigated appropriately.
37:41And as I indicated earlier, we are not waiting for you to come to us.
37:46Based on the intervention required, we will send our officers to the victim,
37:49or to a location where the report can be taken, and dealt it appropriately.
37:53All right, that is acting ASP Jones speaking at the media briefing on Wednesday.
37:58ASP?
37:59Well, first of all, let me say thank you to the members of the special victims,
38:05Superintendent Rez, ASP Leith Jones.
38:10There was another female that accompanied them.
38:13The name just escaped my mind.
38:15And I hope that persons paid attention, Ms. Husbands.
38:18Once you have a suspicion.
38:21Mm-hmm.
38:21To report it.
38:23For persons who are holding people at the homes just for benefit of their pensions, that too is an offense.
38:33Listen to the age of gentleman that was charged at age 90.
38:3890, yeah.
38:40Not 19 at all.
38:42So, so, so, so, and we want to even put it out further.
38:47The persons out there, we want you to be observant and to be that extra eyes, extra pair of ears
38:54for the elderly ones in your neighborhood who cannot protect themselves.
38:58Nothing is wrong with looking out for the neighbor, making sure the neighbor is okay.
39:01You have to show that love in your neighborhood and understand that there are a lot of things.
39:07There are a lot of incidents when we are taking this elder abuse.
39:10I'm very, very, very, very serious.
39:13Because as he said, once you have a suspicion, call.
39:18Yes.
39:18You don't have to leave your name.
39:20Just call.
39:21I don't play with two things.
39:23You see, the elderly and children.
39:24I mean, they have a soft spot there.
39:26We have a caller on.
39:27We'll call her.
39:28Good evening.
39:29Good evening, caller.
39:31Very good evening to ASK.
39:33Good evening, caller.
39:34ASK is a police officer.
39:38This initiative and focus on elder abuse.
39:43But I'm coming to you directly now with you wearing your second division vice president hat.
39:51And this is directly at the operations of the Commissioner of Police,
39:58of both committees that is doing a culture.
40:02Let us go back to 2010.
40:052010, we are the new Commissioner of Police, Mr. Dewey Gates and Mr. Amor Key.
40:13This is then, second division president at St. Louis-Norway ACP.
40:21Publicly said he lost all confidence if he said you did.
40:28And I am going to be directly now at your association with the president have full confidence in our commission
40:38unit.
40:39And I am giving all the hands of the board because we are trying to thank you now.
40:44And everybody in this city here, let us know you and your managers must support our commission unit.
40:57Yes, please.
40:58Well, caller, let me say without a doubt that the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Welfare Association,
41:08with President Mr. Pitt and Vice President Uwe Russell and the entire of the executive and the Trinidad and Tobago
41:15Police Service,
41:16we support our commission now 100%.
41:20And you can see it even in our performance, the way we do things, the way we police our own.
41:27Because as they slip now, you all realize you all see them on TV.
41:30Even this evening.
41:31As they slip, it's lock up and out before the court.
41:36So you are seeing that movement.
41:38You are seeing that support for the commission of police.
41:42And we will continue to support the commission of police and the entire executive position and Tobago Police Service.
41:48I hope that answers your question.
41:50All right.
41:51And with that being said, remember, you can still give us a call at 623-1711, extension 1996 or 1997.
41:58We need to take that break.
41:59When we come back, we continue with more.
44:05So a police constable has been charged in connection with a reported shooting and assault in the Port of Spain
44:12area earlier this month.
44:14One of your own.
44:15I mean, it's embarrassing, eh?
44:16Yes, indeed.
44:17It's not a gloot.
44:19It's not a gloot.
44:35It's not a gloot.
44:42It's not a gloot.
44:54It's not a gloot.
45:08It's not a gloot.
45:10It's not a gloot.
45:18It's not a gloot.
45:21It's not a gloot.
45:24It's not a gloot.
45:31It's not a gloot.
45:33It's not a gloot.
45:33It's not a gloot.
45:34It's not a gloot.
45:35It's not a gloot.
45:54We were able to assist 51 families.
45:5951 families?
46:00Yes, 51 families through our initiative which reflects our commitment to supporting our communities
46:07in making a difference in children's lives and families.
46:17We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our officers, civilian staff, members of the community
46:25and our generous sponsors who contributed to our Back to School Drive 2026.
46:30Your support has shown that when we come together, we can positively impact the lives of children
46:35and families in our communities.
46:37On behalf of all the families and children benefited, thank you for believing on this initiative,
46:43supporting our vision and helping us make a difference.
46:47Together, we are not just equipping a child for school.
46:50We are helping equip them from right to future.
46:55All right, and of course, we saw that Back to School Drive from the Mountain and K9 branch.
47:01A beautiful initiative.
47:01A beautiful community partnership, and we also have the hearts and minds.
47:04We also have the police youth clubs.
47:05There are a lot of back to school initiatives that the police service that we are engaging in.
47:11A lot of it is funded by us, contributions made by us and from our fundraising activities.
47:16So we continue to show the police service in a different light.
47:19Not just luck, but we want to develop, we want to change, we want to nurture, we want to love,
47:24we want to help, we want to show.
47:25We want to really put that service out there.
47:27That person will be so inclined to really do the right thing and to also have that interest in joining
47:32and being in listed as a member of Chantinico Police Service.
47:35And as they continue to give back the TTPs blood, sweat, and tears and knowledge,
47:40this is your opportunity to get involved in the Community Justice Clinic.
47:44And this is for you to know, please, it's on on August 29th in the Southern Division
47:49at the Mount Repo Regional Complex at Tyler Smith Street, Mount Repo from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
47:56And also in the Central Division, look out for that at the Orange Valley Community Center
48:01at Orange Valley Main Road, Orange Valley Coover from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
48:09So go and ask as many questions, get the information that is needed,
48:12and also you can follow them on their social media platforms.
48:16That is the TTPs.
48:17We have a caller on hold.
48:18Caller, good evening.
48:21Hello?
48:24Hello?
48:26Hello, good evening.
48:27Hi, good evening.
48:28How are you?
48:28Good evening, caller.
48:30Good evening, everyone.
48:32I'm Mr. Osler again.
48:33Yes.
48:34Good evening.
48:34Yes, sir.
48:35You're a real politician.
48:37By the time you're there, I think you won't be there.
48:39It's better to have half-assed little people.
48:41Hmm.
48:43But I asked to aggravate the public comment,
48:46when I didn't get there, because I got to be school.
48:48The police officer was put in a building at that court of property.
48:51Hmm.
48:53Pressure.
48:53Is that it, sir?
48:55I'm going to look at one more action,
48:57and if you don't need to have a corrective center,
49:00please, you don't need to have a corrective center.
49:02When you say a corrective center,
49:03as in when they commit an offense?
49:06No, it shouldn't be lacking.
49:08Oh, okay.
49:09It has to have to offer people.
49:11Okay.
49:12So that's public relations.
49:14You get to have a line to contact you,
49:17but if you want to report an accident,
49:19that will be your victim.
49:21The one you want to send in the house picture,
49:24and you can offer a department.
49:25All right.
49:26Thank you so much, sir.
49:28All right.
49:30The suggestion of a car park is a good idea.
49:32I live in Arimas.
49:33I understand that situation by the dial there.
49:37Based on how close to the corner the officers are parked now,
49:40how they understand the needs of the officers and the vehicle,
49:44that Arimas police station is two police stations close to each other,
49:47but they don't have that amount of space,
49:48and more and more officers have vehicles.
49:51So let's say about 60 persons on duties.
49:54We would never have 60 parking spots.
49:55So they have the vehicle parked facing the station,
50:00not as normal facing west, which is the port of Spain,
50:05as would usually be parked.
50:06So they are parked like you are in...
50:08Almost like a horizontal.
50:09Right.
50:10But there is a park that is a bit close to the dial
50:14that if a vehicle is coming around,
50:16it may hinder them based on the size of the vehicle.
50:18So, Carla, I understand what you're saying.
50:21And with respect to the corrective center,
50:24we have a customer service policy,
50:26and we have spent hundreds of thousands of customer service training.
50:30And within that policy, there's a corrective measure,
50:35a rehabilitative measure for officers who have been found wanting
50:38what we want you to do.
50:39Rather than just saying that you experience it,
50:42come, make the complaint so that we can investigate it
50:44and have the officer engage in the correct and appropriate remedial training
50:50so that he or she would not do it to another person.
50:55Yeah, I mean, you can't let all that money go down the drain, right?
50:58Of course not.
50:59It is clear that you all are trying.
51:01But I think this is just common sense, though.
51:03It's a human being.
51:04You would not want someone to treat you in that manner.
51:07Everyone has bodies.
51:09I, myself, may have a body, and I still have to come on the show.
51:12Imagine somebody call this show,
51:14and I already go into whatever in my mind.
51:16What are you calling here for?
51:17Hurry up!
51:19What are you taking so long for?
51:22Isn't people going to understand that?
51:24No.
51:24The position that I stand is one way.
51:26I have to make sure that I'm also polite.
51:29Even though, whatever I'm going through.
51:30We have a call on hold.
51:31Call on, good evening.
51:35Hello?
51:36Yes.
51:37Hi.
51:38Good evening to you, sir.
51:39Good evening, caller.
51:39Good evening, sir.
51:43Good evening, sir.
51:45Good evening, sir.
51:46I am calling with the deed.
51:50But, sir, of the proliferation of these electric actors that have taken over all roads,
51:58Yes.
51:59Yes.
52:00As the city, as no end, and you, they think.
52:04And I am asking, I don't know what I am currently doing.
52:10I would leave you to buy, and get in and out of space.
52:16To a truly different way.
52:18This one is a magical one.
52:21You're living in and out of space.
52:24I don't know where it is.
52:25I didn't care in one world.
52:28I was a mad at a car.
52:30This is something you never know, I'll give you a shot here.
52:33I have to call that workforce.
52:34I have to create a shot here.
52:36and there is no cancer, and the same thing that is being allowed to happen with you,
52:44imagine they are all over and tragic that, and it is really secure,
52:50people are carrying children, they are living in and out of the night,
52:56going through and from the miles of Europe and the environment,
53:00they have no life, they have no health,
53:03they are living in and out of the place,
53:07are we going to wait until it reaches a catastrophic area,
53:13that something really happens, that we are going to do this,
53:17why can the Lord do it with his body,
53:21what do the customs do it with it,
53:23it is giving all patients advice,
53:25what do the police do it,
53:27what do the license officers do it,
53:29and we are going to kill the people of the country and the people of the country,
53:33we are going to kill the people of the country,
53:34we are going to fight, and we are just feeling like nothing is happening,
53:39with these bikes, this is a danger,
53:41with this disaster, this is a danger,
53:44I don't know if you have any interactions with these bikes on the road,
53:49– Yeah. — I agree with this.
54:03Does he agree with that?
54:05I agree with that.
54:06We do need to be immediatelystorm our bodies by.
54:11Is that he will not care in the hands of theç›´æ’?
54:21On the northern end of the federal nation, three police school clubs were allowed to shut up.
54:31It was not for one of the tribes of the leaders who have retired
54:36to get other people to leave you to the club.
54:41Namely, Unopia Police Club, Calgary Police Club, and the Loma Police Club.
54:48Those three police clubs are both doing great work and great services in the area that were allowed to shut
54:57down.
54:58And the leaders who were there tried their best.
55:02They tried their best. They went to the highest level.
55:07The best people to take over is you to the club.
55:10And nothing was done and resulted in the closure of these three police clubs.
55:16But at the last point of the club here, that was shut up in the area of people who reached
55:21our home.
55:22Right? So you need to pay.
55:26A lot of people pay for this to listen to what you do about them.
55:29They pay for this to listen to and the police to develop this subject that is a serious, serious aspect
55:37of politics.
55:38All right. Thank you so much, sir.
55:41Yes, please.
55:41All right, caller.
55:43I have stood right here, caller, on this same show and advocated, just as how you advocate.
55:50So I hope that somebody in authority heard you this evening because they are indeed a menace.
55:59So you can't recommend?
56:01I reached out to somebody, a friend of mine in licensing office, and he told me that it's a continuous
56:08discussion that they are having with respect to these e-bikes.
56:12But I think they need to hasten the discussion.
56:14Yeah, it was.
56:15I stood here.
56:16There were several accidents involving those e-bikes and motorists.
56:22And they're not insured.
56:25I understand, caller.
56:27I understand because I, too, am a motorist, and I don't want to face what you would have encountered with
56:32respect to that.
56:33So it is something.
56:34Maybe we have to raise it or continuously raise it in certain quarters.
56:38But I ask that you continue to raise it.
56:40Don't let it go silent because eventually something will be done.
56:44Caller, the police youth clubs, they are all in need of funding.
56:48When I was in the Western Division as the assistant superintendent there, I had responsibility for the youth clubs.
56:54And I know you talk about the leadership of the youth clubs, but there are persons who...
56:59I remember the Marvel Youth Club needed a home for the longest while.
57:03We beg, we beg, we beg, we quarrel, we beg again.
57:08Because the police youth club is something that really needs funding.
57:12And this is where we are asking the private sector to step in to help us.
57:16Now, you are there, you are running the youth club, you have your family, you have your mortgage, you have
57:21your rent, you have your car payments, etc.
57:23You have your children to see about.
57:25You are still taking from your pockets to make sure that the police youth club is functional.
57:29I remember one person brought to my attention a female who excelled in a particular field and was invited to
57:36a trial abroad and couldn't go.
57:39So funding is an important thing and we ask the private sector to step up and if the public want
57:45to, you know, give something, we would appreciate that.
57:49Anything you'd like to say before we close things off? We have a few seconds.
57:52I'm trying to be here tomorrow.
57:53And we'll be here tomorrow.
57:54Exercise some patience.
57:56Be safe on your roadway.
57:57Remember, your first step of safety is your awareness.
58:02Know what is going on around you.
58:04Be careful.
58:05Think twice.
58:07And if it's too good to be true.
58:09It is too good to be true.
58:10And sending love to Kendrick's Real Homemade Ice Cream in Tobago.
58:16Sending love your way and I hope that you have a fantastic evening and I enjoy the ice cream by
58:21the way.
58:22News up next TNT.
58:23Be safe.
58:23Continue being a hot target.
58:25We're out until tomorrow.
58:26We're out.
