00:00I think this shows that at this moment in time, Deshaun Watson has the slight edge in the
00:05competition. I think you would probably go ahead and start who you think might be your starting
00:09quarterback in the first preseason game. That's what makes sense to me. But next week is a pivotal
00:14week with that practice and with that game against the Bills. Once those two things are over,
00:19I believe that they will know the identity of their starting quarterback. I don't think they
00:23will necessarily announce it by then, but I think they will know. Well, it doesn't mean it's Deshaun's
00:28job to lose. 216-474-0092. Says that he has the inside edge. How did we get here, right? And
00:36I
00:36asked her if it matched her eye test every day, and she admitted the stuff that we're not privy to
00:42could be the ultimate determining factor here because there's not been some huge gap in terms
00:48of the throws. I mean, obviously we know Watson has way more interceptions. There have been some
00:54nice flash plays recently by Shador the last few days, but she continues to say that there really
01:01isn't a whole bunch of separation, although Deshaun might have the edge getting them in and out of
01:05stuff. Okay. So if there's not that much and he's got the, so what are we, what are we saying
01:13here
01:13then? What are we, what are we pointing out? What are we upset about? No, she's making it sound like
01:17he's earned it. He's, he's earned it and it's his job to lose at this point. Okay. Well, that doesn't
01:23make, make me a very merry man, but that's not going to make people feel good at all. Well, yeah,
01:29but if, I mean, if he takes a job, I said the whole time now I'm not going to go
01:33back on what I said.
01:34I said the whole time. If he, if he wins the job, wins the job legitimately. And it seems that
01:38he would
01:38in this case, going off what Mary Kay said, I'm willing to accept that again, there's other scenarios
01:44that we have to play out, but they're not really for Deshaun Watson. Cause I wanted to ask her
01:48point blank. Does his salary have anything to do with it? She said, no. So that goes away from it.
01:54They're not doing it to upset the fans. I do think the organization is sensitive to booing their own
01:59player. People said, I'm afraid of, I ain't afraid of damn thing. You guys been booing them for 30 years.
02:05Why the hell would I be afraid of that? Won eight games the last two years. What am I, I'm
02:09afraid you're
02:10going to boo. I'm afraid. I mean, if I think is whether you boo them at the start, one thing
02:13that's been
02:14universal since 99 is we ended up booing them at the end. Yeah. I mean, hell I, I know we've
02:20had
02:20boo fights before and even miles called out people booing. It's like, yeah, you get, you paid your
02:25money. You got every right to boo. Now they don't want the team to be booed in preseason or even
02:29one
02:30player, but yeah, you got every right to do it. It's not all booze. When Deshaun Watson plays,
02:34sometimes it's cheers, but that's when they're scraping them off the field and put them on a flatbed
02:37and wheeling them out. That's not, does that actually happened? It was not. It was
02:44a gaggle of people. It was not. You guys make it out to be, it was the entire stadium.
02:50It's not a golf cart. What do they use? There's no thing for your bags in the back of it.
02:54It's a
02:54flatbed. It's not a flatbed. Does this mean, does this have any meaning? Because Mary Kay,
03:02we played the Mary Kay clip. Now I still thought it was very much open. Mary Kay is saying differently.
03:08Do you feel that this is a, that he has the inside edge? I think we'll find out more during
03:14the, during the joint practice. Maybe I'm naive. I'll be the naive one here. I thought this was
03:19the opportunity for Shador to win the job by getting a chance to have his start against Buffalo
03:26and the joint practice. I mean, I guess it'll be very telling how the reps are partitioned.
03:31But why would you, I mean, it's all going to be a hindsight thing anyway, or, right. Um, we're
03:38going to know later, but why would you roll out your first time as the head coach of the
03:43organization, roll up the starters, right? It's all the starters and not roll out the guy
03:49that you plan on starting the season with as a starting quarterback. Yeah. He want to do
03:53that. It's true. It's true. But devil's advocate, somebody has to start these games and he is
04:01alternating. They will fill that position. But, but what Owen's saying is the absolute truth of
04:07what the locker room should be. He cannot care about Kenny Carmen or Anthony Lima, rant and
04:11raving on the radio, or even Bob from North Royalton who's sitting in one 36 booing from the stands.
04:18Here's what we need. Cause you, cause you, if you're sitting there worried about people booing
04:22you or worried about anything that's said on the radio or people online, then you're really,
04:26you don't have a chance to win a whole lot of games anyway, considering your quarterback room.
04:31You damn sure really don't got a chance anyway to do it because of that, because then you're
04:34responding to the wrong people. You're acting responsible to the wrong group.
04:38Quite frankly, if you wanted the other guy, if you wanted Shador to be the starting quarterback,
04:44wouldn't you let Deshaun go out there and potentially be booed?
04:48In, in week two?
04:52I, I think it would be a giant test because if I'm coming in, I'm the new head coach,
04:59probably this is what, what would, would not get me the job. I go, I don't, I'm not responsible
05:04for things that happened here before. My last year here was 2019. I've been gone ever since.
05:08So I'm not responsible for trading for Deshaun. I'm not responsible for the fans, not liking the guy.
05:14I'm not responsible for the fans and their arguments over Shador every day. I'm responsible.
05:19If I'm the head coach of the Browns, I'm responsible for preparing this team to go
05:22out there and win. So I don't give a damn whether or not guys in the radio or guys in
05:26the stands are upset. I'm upset about trying to win football games and I'm upset about trying.
05:32I'm emotionally moved to try to get 53 men to move together. The best chances to get 53 men.
05:38So I don't, I don't care where we're playing it, where they're going to boom, whether it's
05:42Cleveland, whether it's Houston, whether it's Neptune, we got to try to go out there and get
05:45prepared to win damn football games here. Some of this stuff is silly and I am a full
05:49participant in the silliness. All right. So one of the components about me, not if I were
05:54Tom Munkin. Yeah. One of the components that we had talked about, you know, earlier in the
05:59off season was that you can't fool a locker room, right? Like you can't give one guy the job if
06:04the
06:04other guy's clearly outplaying them because then you'll lose a locker room. You'll lose all
06:09credibility. Ultimately it undermines you deteriorates, you know, everything you stand
06:14for as a football coach, where you're supposed to put teams in the best position to win games.
06:19With all that said, would you care if you could do a poll and ask the players, the actual starters
06:27and maybe the backups, like you were to ask all the guys on offense, limit them to offense
06:32because, you know, defense, defense, whatever, even though they do go up against the guys.
06:36So maybe, maybe you could ask the defense and say, which one scares you more when you're
06:39lining up every single rep in 11 on 11. Would it matter to you who the players would
06:44pick? Like if me and you could do a straw poll with the players, why wouldn't it matter?
06:48Well, just compared to the coach, like some would say, no, I only care what the coach
06:51thinks. Yeah. But there's been times where the coaches picked a guy. If we're talking
06:56Brown's history, they've picked guys plenty of times that the players have not trusted.
07:00Sure. Including Johnny Manziel. Sure. But that probably wasn't even Mike Pettis' decision.
07:05Are you trusting Jerry Judy or Todd Munkinmore to make that decision?
07:10Fair point. I'm trusting Todd Munkinmore, but you didn't say it was one player. You gave
07:14me all the players. So I, I would hope that if the culture is on its way to where it
07:19needs
07:19to go, there's a lot more Carson Swessinger, Jared, uh, Jared Verse and those guys than there
07:25are Jerry Judy. How about Verse getting stonewalled yesterday? A bunch of, a bunch of reps.
07:30Did we get beaten in this trade? No, by a rookie. So then it's like, ah, it's, it's
07:35the, yay, boo, boo, yay.
07:40Jared Verse is an exceptional football player. So I'm going to be very excited that the rookie
07:44was able to do what he was able to do. That's a feather in the cap for Andrew Barry.
07:48Do we have major controversy here? Like guys, I hear you. I hear you guys. I do. Like
07:54I get it. Like, why are you guys making a big deal about it? Cause it, cause it's the quarterback
07:57of the football team. And we got to talk about the quarterback of the football team, even
08:00though I know neither of these guys are going to be here next year. Let's just call it what
08:03it is. Hold on now, Kenny. What are the chances that either of them are here next year? Was
08:07it a year ago? Was it a year ago at this time that we were at training camp and Jimmy
08:12Haslam
08:13got up there and admitted that this trade was a disaster for Deshaun Watson? It was a swing
08:19and a miss. Okay. And when he said a swing and a miss, what if a time traveler from the
08:26future, instead of using their time traveling abilities to, to earn billions of dollars in
08:33various markets, prediction markets, whatever, instead of that, they came back just to monitor
08:39the Browns quarterback competitions. And they came to warn you that, Hey, Jimmy said swing
08:44and a miss, but Deshaun Watson is going to start week one a year from now. What would you
08:49have said?
08:50I honestly don't think I'd be surprised.
08:52Really?
08:53Nah, I would have been surprised.
08:55I don't think I'm surprised by anything anymore. Not with them, but on this, that
09:02would have been a whole cycle and a half to be able to bring in a new quarterback of some
09:07sort. What about what in, in the draft, in a trade, in free agency. Yeah. And yet here
09:13we are Deshaun Watson, who nobody, if we run out the phone lines right now, he asked, does
09:18anybody want him to start? Does anybody actually want him to start? Even if he's better, even
09:22if it was definitive, which nobody seems to think it's definitive, wanting him to start
09:26and accepting he should start are two different things. They're not the same. I don't want
09:33him to start. I will accept him starting.
09:35Man, even if I told you that he could win four of the first six games this year and do
09:42it without
09:42a laugh. Even if I told you that ahead of time, yeah, you know, he's going to win four of
09:46the
09:46first six. I'm sure the number would come down of outraged people, but I still think there'd
09:51be a lot of people that said, no, no, no. That makes us have to consider signing him.
09:55That, that makes us have to consider. No, it doesn't. Giving him another contract.
09:59No, it doesn't. Does anybody out there really think that there's a threat that he's going
10:02to play exceedingly well? Does anybody out there think that Shador Sanders, I still think
10:07he'll be on the team. Obviously. Does anybody who think, I mean, who, how many people think
10:12that Deshaun Watson is going to play more games than Shador Sanders this year? This is where
10:17any of you guys say like, this is a giant waste of time. You guys are totally right. That's
10:22why I'm not going to sit here and end friendships and, and, and get nasty with people on the
10:27internet over this. I'll get nasty with people on the internet in January when we're arguing
10:31Dante Moore or Arch Manning or Julian Sand or CJ Carr. That's when I'll get nasty with people
10:37because you know what? Then it'll matter. That's what this doesn't matter in the grand scheme
10:43of things. Tell me I'm wrong. Can you ask that question again? What? Who thinks that
10:50Deshaun's going to play more than Shador this year? Why do you want to use that for
10:53later? No, I just, a month ago, I didn't think so. Who thinks Deshaun Watson is going
10:59to play more games than Shador Sanders this year? The way that the chips are falling right
11:04now, barring an injury and season ending injury, I think Deshaun's going to play more
11:10games than Shador right now. I don't. I don't. Cause if he's ahead, he ain't ahead by that
11:15much. So I'll accept these ahead, but he ain't ahead by that much considering what we've seen.
11:20And it may very well be a race to the bottom, but I think that Shador Sanders will play more
11:25games. I got very little faith in the guy who is according to Mary Kay leading the quarterback
11:32battle. And if I'm wrong, fine. We, I guess we all get to celebrate winning, but we have
11:38a great big argument to have later on. I don't even know that we'll celebrate winning.
11:42Okay. Well then there you go. I'm, I'm starting to feel like we are, I shouldn't say starting
11:48to feel like we already knew this, but we were at a horse race and these are two mules, right?
11:53We brought oxen to the horse race.
11:58I mean, yeah, they're in the race. They got the shoots. They blew the trumpets and everything.
12:03Bugles. Sorry. Twin Spires lovers, but now you're just hurting Todd's feelings. They'll start
12:09the race. And then yeah, out the, out the gate, they come and put those two in the back.
12:15Yeah. And there's a Shetland pony still in the stable.
12:19That's a good line. It's just a whatever. If he's, and by the way, if he's the best one
12:26they got, I'm going to accept Todd Munkin's decision. Cause you know why? Cause I was right
12:31about all of it. And if I was wrong, you guys would be the first ones to tell me who
12:36was,
12:36who was, who was, who was, they'll go get mad at me on the internet. Who was Shador Sanders
12:40best friend going into this year? Kevin Stefanski would have kept the status quo. I bet Kevin
12:45Stefanski would probably be starting Shador Sanders. I know though the Shador fans don't
12:50agree with that. They don't agree with that. But again, do you disagree with me? Do you
12:54disagree? No, I, you love to disagree with me and tell me I'm wrong. Do you disagree?
12:58I think that could have been a better avenue for you love it sometimes more than he does.
13:02Do you disagree with me? The best chance for Shador to start is down in Atlanta. The guy
13:08who had the best chance to start him is down in Atlanta. Now you have a new coach coming
13:12in. He ain't got no time for anything. He ain't got time to be messing around. I still
13:16think we'd be, we'd be doing this, but it'd be Dylan and Shador right now instead of
13:20yeah. Okay. Fair. That's a fair point. Fair point. Nicely done. Cause Dylan Gabriel. Yeah.
13:26People boot them. They don't dislike them. Like they like the other, they like, they
13:29dislike the other guy. They, they dislike the person. Yes. Football player. Dylan's
13:34more, they just don't care for his football. Yeah. Teams normally don't write off starters
13:39after just a top 100 picks after five games. Correct. Usually they don't. And so I go with
13:45what was said yesterday and like, or excuse me, two days ago with what Zach said. And I
13:49go, yeah, maybe I should have known better about that. That about him being traded at the
13:52end of the off season or at the end of the training camp. I will admit, I'm probably going
13:56to be very, very, very, very, very wrong about that. Hate say it for tailing green. Cause
14:01okay. I love tailing green. He's a fine young man. He was a great interview back on Monday,
14:05but I think that I might have to accept that, but we set it back in January. I set it
14:09back
14:09at the end of last season. I've been ridiculed for it ever since. And all it's doing is proving
14:13I'm right. Cause if Kevin Stefanski were still the head coach, I think Shador Sanders would
14:16be the leader in the clubhouse to be the starting quarterback this year. So he's not because
14:20you have a new head coach. You have a new head coach. It's usually going to go with
14:23a veteran and here we are. Okay. Cause they want to give the power to their head coach
14:32and the head coach has worked with mobile quarterbacks before he has worked with guys
14:37who have been athletes before. And as much as Deshaun Watson hasn't done any of that over
14:41the last six years, I'll never accuse him of not being an athlete. He's an athlete design
14:46runs or worked into that offense. I, we will find out more coming up in the joint practice.
14:51Like if Deshaun Watson goes out there and is terrible on Saturday, folks, we, we need
14:56to reevaluate this, but Mary Kay saying that he's the leader in the clubhouse, or he would
15:01have the inside edge for the job. Mary, I don't believe Mary Kay is wrong about that.
15:08So fine. But in the end, do any of us see these guys being here next year?
15:16Chidor? Maybe. You? Maybe. Maybe. Hell, I, I, I'm about one call away from saying Dylan
15:26Gabriel has the best chance to be here next year out of all these guys. Wouldn't that be
15:30something? That's the guy who's supposed to be the career backup. That's the guy who's
15:33supposed to be able to get him in and out of the auto. I think he could be here through,
15:35as long as Andrew Barry's here, I think he could be on the roster for a while.
15:382-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-92. Like I'm not trying to be mean. I'm not trying to
15:41be nasty. I'm just
15:42trying to tell the truth here. That's what we've been saying for a long time.
15:46And I, I know what I want. I want Chidor Sanders to start, but what I want and what I'm
15:50going
15:50to get are obviously very, very different. And I can accept that. That's why, like,
15:55when I got, when you said that I was afraid of booing, I had afraid of a damn thing.
15:59I had afraid of losing football games this year. I am mentally and emotionally prepared
16:04to have these games not go our way this year. I don't want it to happen, but I'm mentally
16:09and prepared for it to happen. I am mentally and emotionally prepared for fans to boo Deshaun
16:14Watson out there. I've been through all of it. I've had the fights already about whether
16:20or not fans were cheering when he tore his Achilles. I've been through the fans booing
16:24him when he was introduced. Hell, you and I, when they brought back Nick Chubb, do you remember
16:27we had the show? It was, oddly enough, the same game that Deshaun Watson tore the Achilles.
16:34But remember, we said, you got to introduce Nick Chubb before so they aren't booing. And
16:39what did they do? They introduced him before. That's right.
16:44I mean, we did it. We did it. Deshaun Watson. And guys, that was, that was 2023, 2024. It's
16:53ancient history. Back then. I am not afraid of anything. You know what I'm most afraid of
17:02about the Cleveland Browns? Us picking the wrong quarterback next April. That is my fear.
17:07You want to know what I'm afraid of? That's what I'm afraid of. I'm afraid of Arch Manning
17:11going out there and having not such a great year and us getting the first overall pick
17:15and us still insisting to get Arch Manning. I am afraid of CJ Carr playing terrible ACC
17:22teams with the exception of Miami, maybe getting lit up by Miami and that dissuading us or we
17:28overdo it and we take a guy who's not ready from Notre Dame. I've been through all this
17:32now because we've done it so many times. That's what I'm afraid of. I'm afraid of the baby-faced
17:37assassin Julian saying and the arguments we're going to have where, is he just throwing to
17:41Jeremiah Smith or is he really an NFL quarterback? That, I'm afraid to, I'm not afraid of that
17:46discussion. I'm afraid of the wrong decision. That is what I'm afraid of. You want me to
17:51admit my fears? That's my fear. What are you afraid of, Anthony? I bet it's the same thing.
17:55You ain't afraid of this competition. No, no. Oh my god, they're going to boo. You've booed since 99.
