00:00Over the weekend, it's one thing for me and Lyman to say it.
00:03It's another thing for a former football coach to say it.
00:06A guy who actually has wins and losses on his record in Coach Lance.
00:10And I heard Coach Lance over the last week and over the weekend.
00:14And he said kind of the same thing that you and I have toyed with.
00:17Well, I've toyed with it.
00:18I don't think you have.
00:19I think you've disagreed with me on whether or not Deshaun being in the lead
00:23could end up being not such a bad thing.
00:26Here's Coach Lance on that over the weekend.
00:29But Deshaun being in front is something everybody should kind of think of as a good thing.
00:33Even if you're a Shador fan, this is a brand-new offense.
00:36Understand that Deshaun has had injuries.
00:38And I had mentioned a couple weeks ago I got a lot of pushback because I said he looked good.
00:43And what I meant by that is his health looks good.
00:45It doesn't matter, you know, what he's doing.
00:48And obviously he's got to play better in games, and I get all that.
00:50But when you have a brand-new offense and you have a guy who's been in the league 10 years
00:55and he's just going to know more.
00:57It doesn't mean he's better.
00:58It doesn't mean he's automatically going to be the starter.
01:00But if you're asking who's in front, you would hope it would be Deshaun Watson at this point in time
01:05with all that veteran kind of knowledge of multiple offenses, terminology, how to get in and out of the huddle.
01:11You saw the thing I would tell everybody.
01:13They were signaling doing two-minute already.
01:15They're killing plays on the line of scrimmage.
01:16So there's a lot of things that have been installed already with these guys,
01:20which is a great thing because there's going to be hopefully mistakes early,
01:23and then that's taken care of late.
01:24The part he says about you would be hoping, I disagree with,
01:28because I'm not hoping that Deshaun Watson would be in the lead for that position.
01:31However, him saying, well, it could possibly be taken as a good thing.
01:35Like, it would be if you felt, if you were Todd Munkentone,
01:40that Shador just is not ready to run my offense.
01:43Okay, don't put him out there.
01:45It would be even worse if you said he wasn't ready for your offense,
01:50whatever your offense may be, and then you still put him out there,
01:53and then you put him behind the eight ball.
01:54Like, if he's not ready, if that's your belief, then don't put him out there
01:59because I don't want to put him out there and have a situation,
02:01not even have a chance to get up off the ground.
02:03I don't think it was set up in the right way to begin with going back to last year.
02:07I really don't want to double down on bad mistakes last year
02:10and then actually overplay the hand and force him in a position he's not ready to play in.
02:15And that was a thing we brushed up against a few weeks ago.
02:19Going well, it gives him a chance.
02:21It could be a good thing.
02:22If you sat him, Deshaun goes out there, say Deshaun is still Deshaun,
02:27and he ain't that great.
02:28And then you go, all right, we've had five weeks for you to get ready.
02:31Here we go.
02:31Off you go.
02:32You could gather your breath.
02:33You could kind of see it again, and then there you are.
02:36There's going to be certain fans out there that hear this,
02:38and they're just not going to accept that as an answer.
02:39Okay, fine.
02:40I can't make everybody happy, but I can accept it going,
02:44hey, one guy you might be more excited to see,
02:46but if he's not ready yet to take over the offense, we do have to go.
02:50We do have to try to go out there and win football games if we're Todd Munkin,
02:53so I have to accept the decision that he makes.
02:56Well, I've been making the case for a while now
02:59that I think this could be a really good thing for Shador.
03:02If he truly wants to have a career in the NFL,
03:06like I don't know that this team with a overhauled offensive line
03:12with all the young pieces and parts on that receiving core,
03:18two brand new receivers that are going to get ample time,
03:21like if you were to ask me in sincerity when those guys could potentially gel,
03:26it's not before game one in September.
03:29You know, that would be almost more throwing them to the wolves.
03:32Now, look, there are guys that can come into the league and play well instantly.
03:35I mean, Jackson Dart was able to do that last year,
03:37but there were ups and downs, obviously,
03:39and, you know, there are plenty of guys where it doesn't work out,
03:42where the start is brutal, and then you're just a battering ram,
03:46and it's a new offense, and you're getting the terminology,
03:49and a bunch of penalties.
03:50Like, I would not be shocked, even if you believe in Todd Munkin,
03:54I would not be shocked if this team struggles out of the gates
03:58with all these new pieces and parts.
03:59So, if you're Shador, would you want to be subjected to that
04:04in the opening month of the year, where before you know it,
04:07I mean, we said they're going to be underdogs in all these games.
04:10Before you know it, you're 0-4, and then they have to make a move,
04:14and Todd Munkin's going to go to the bench?
04:15If you're Shador, you probably do, because I want him to be a competitor.
04:18But if I just don't feel that he's ready yet to take over the offense,
04:22then I don't want to put him in harm's way.
04:24He should feel like he could take over at any point.
04:26I want him to feel that way, because I want him to be a competitor for it,
04:29so he could feel that, hey, I'm going to raise the tide on this boat.
04:32We're going to be just fine.
04:33Even if I don't believe it, he may, I want to still hear it from him.
04:37However, that said, I think it could be seen as the right thing to do,
04:40where, hey, we've got all these new pieces coming in.
04:42You have the veteran quarterback who's supposed to know these things,
04:45and it's argued before that he hasn't.
04:47We know that Bill O'Brien story and everything like that,
04:49but he should know these things better than a second-year quarterback there.
04:53So it may very well be advantageous for him to catch his breath,
04:57then come in later in the season, and maybe Deshaun takes off
05:00and we never have a conversation about Shador again.
05:02Like, these things can happen.
05:03Who knows?
05:04But when you get to this level, I want to make sure we're careful
05:08and we're doing this the right way.
05:09Not kid gloves, but trying to do this the right way to bring anybody along.
05:14Not just to bring anybody along, but to try to go out there and win football games
05:17and give the rest of the team a good chance to win.
05:19And if Todd Munkin were to decide to do that, I could see the rationale in being this way.
05:23However, if Deshaun Watson were to go out there and just look completely listless,
05:26and he has before, if he looks completely listless,
05:29like, you could still see people by the end of September, that early, going,
05:32what are we doing here?
05:33This is pointless.
05:33Yeah, he'll get benched.
05:34Yes.
05:34I mean, he'll get benched, and then Shador will get his opportunity.
05:37Yes.
05:37Like, I would be stunned if Shador doesn't get a decent sample of games this year.
05:42I would be stunned.
05:43You know, it's hard for me to see, you know, Deshaun playing so well
05:47that he's able to stave off Shador, and, you know, it's the Browns.
05:52And by the way, it's not just the Browns.
05:53In 2026 in the NFL, like, the backups all get to play now.
05:58They all get starts.
05:59The season is so long that it's incredible how few guys are able to go the distance.
06:05Because you're still at six wins, I'm at seven, right?
06:07That's still not a lot more.
06:08Like, I heard Jonathan last week say it, where he thought that –
06:12listen, this is a YouTube clip.
06:14I didn't see him on – or I didn't hear him live, so I can't give all the context.
06:19But the comment about Todd Munkin taking credit for this being so much better,
06:25like, I do think you do have good young players.
06:27But the most important player is giant question mark, and that's quarterback.
06:31And more than likely, it's a negative for your football team.
06:34So if it's a negative for your football team, if they win seven games,
06:37like, I don't think that Todd Munkin is out there bragging and puffing out his chest
06:40that this team was able to win seven games.
06:42There might be some talent on that football team,
06:44but it doesn't mean that they're ready to compete just right now.
