00:00It feels like Deshaun is feeling himself a little bit here.
00:04Deshaun comparing getting back out there and kind of playing again
00:09and getting ready to play for the first time in almost two years to riding a bike.
00:12You know, it's like riding a bike.
00:14You know, it's just kind of getting back and just playing football, playing free.
00:17I think the biggest thing is just really mental.
00:19My mental side is really just coming in and taking it one day at a time,
00:22not worried about what's going on outside and just focusing on my opportunities.
00:26All right, so here's what's interesting.
00:28Yeah.
00:29He's been saying the same thing since OTAs.
00:33Yes, yeah.
00:34The only thing that has changed is that he went from looking unplayable
00:38to at least looking like an NFL quarterback in the last week.
00:43The confidence has not been lacked from him the entire time.
00:46That's one of the key notes on this.
00:48I even noted it myself.
00:50I'm like, wow, he sounds incredibly confident.
00:51We've heard him do this a lot.
00:53He constantly sounds incredibly confident.
00:55And my goodness, it's like riding a bike line.
00:58Are you kidding me, Deshaun?
01:00Does he mean getting hurt?
01:01Are you kidding me?
01:02It's your quarterback in the NFL.
01:03It's not like riding a bike.
01:04Anybody can ride a bike.
01:05Playing quarterback in the NFL is not that.
01:08And it's not as simple as riding a bike.
01:09You know the amount of hours and time people have spent into that concept alone,
01:13that playing quarterback takes so much and so much energy.
01:17Tell Tom Brady it's like riding a bike.
01:19See, it's funny.
01:20I want to see Brady's head explode in the spot if you say it's like riding a bike.
01:23It's funny that you took that angle on it because I took at it and it's like,
01:28we haven't really known how to ride a bike for about five years now.
01:31Every time he tries to ride the bike, he completely crashes the bike.
01:34I was like, well, at some point, if it was like riding a bike, you would remember how to pedal.
01:38If it was as easy as riding a bike, wouldn't we have seen it in any of the years he
01:42has played football in a Browns helmet?
01:43And any of those games, any of those times, wouldn't we have seen him just get right up on that
01:47horse and go for it?
01:49Now I'm changing bikes to horses, but you know what I'm talking about.
01:51I think Deshaun is similar to Kevin Stefanski in that when Kevin would say the same thing over time,
01:58even if something changed, you would think to yourself, he's doing the same old song and dance.
02:03So there's a part of me that's like, yes, the football looks at least a little bit better than it
02:10had,
02:11but Deshaun's never really changed.
02:12Like this isn't like if Todd Munkin changes his tune in his press conference, that is something worth tracking.
02:18Because Deshaun's been saying the same thing, it's like we're still stuck at, I don't believe you, go out there
02:23and prove me wrong.
02:24Well, so what's funny about it is that he then goes on to talk about the mental side of that
02:27in that clip, right?
02:28Like mentally is where I need to get there and mentally is where I need to be the strongest,
02:31which is funny because from what we've heard, it seems like the mental part of it should be the strongest.
02:36I just think he's lying to us and he's lying to himself.
02:39And in the past week, I do feel like something has changed with him from a mental standpoint,
02:44whether that is them setting up the practices so that he can actually make completions
02:48and not turn the ball over as much, making it easier on him, build up his confidence a little bit
02:53more.
02:53But something has changed with Deshaun Watson, and it doesn't mean it'll change when the games get going.
02:58That part still scares me.
02:59When the lights are on, I think his decision-making is poor, and I think he's going to struggle mightily.
03:05But you can tell over the past week or so, that confidence that he's been talking about mentally, it's getting
03:10there.
03:11Everything from the play to him going and signing autographs for the fans on the side
03:14and feeling like the whole world doesn't hate him, you can tell it's a little bit of a different Deshaun
03:18Watson.
03:18I agree, and that actually is something that I think today was a bit of a missed opportunity with Deshaun
03:24because he's been espousing these same cliches for, I mean, and to what you're saying, five years.
03:31It's been, I feel great, and I feel different, and it's never entirely felt real.
03:37What I think is interesting about now is that he does look different.
03:41He does look like there is.
03:42And again, I don't want to make him into being Deshaun Watson of Houston.
03:46He just doesn't look as absolute dog butt as he did last, what was it, was it Wednesday?
03:52Or no, it was Tuesday, where it was done, it was over.
03:55And I, we kept talking about it's getting late in the game to flip the switch,
04:00and then Wednesday he seemed to flip the switch.
04:02Well, it seems like.
04:03And so I think the missed opportunity here is, hey, you know,
04:06I just had a point where I was dog bleep for the first ten practices,
04:10and I just realized I was, like, I think that's an opportunity where if he had came out today
04:15and was like, yeah, the last week feels different,
04:18I would have been impressed and to understand what changed for him.
04:22Well, this is where I want to know whether or not Munkin should deserve praise
04:25or criticism for how this thing has gone.
04:29Not necessarily in the big picture for how this has gone,
04:31but with Deshaun in particular, clearly he was trying to do some of those stress tests
04:35with Deshaun Watson.
04:36He was really trying to see what he has, what he doesn't have,
04:38of what can we work with, what can't we work with.
04:40And Deshaun failed that mightily.
04:42A million interceptions, way too many bad throws.
04:45They put as much pressure on him in trying to get him to do actual 11-on-11 stuff
04:49with real pass rush, with real defenses, and everything you could possibly think of.
04:53And now it seemed like after Tuesday, Munkin realized, like, oh, no, I'm killing this guy now.
04:58This isn't good.
04:59We're going backwards.
05:00We're not going forwards.
05:01We're going backwards.
05:02And I felt like he's made the practices much easier since then,
05:05and then Deshaun has been able to, quote-unquote, rise to the task, if you will,
05:09because it's set up.
05:11This part of the offense right here, this is set up for the offense.
05:13This is not set up for the defense.
05:15You should look good in this part.
05:16And so Deshaun, and to his credit, he's looking better.
05:19But I just wonder Munkin's role in this, at what point he realized.
05:23Maybe it was after Tuesday.
05:24I've got to set this up differently for Deshaun.
05:26I've got to get him to mentally a spot where he feels like he can actually do right.
05:302-1-6-4-7-4-00-9-2.
05:33The question here is, does Deshaun believe he is back?
05:37Deshaun Watson was saying earlier today, it's like riding a bike,
05:40which, again, he just forgot how to ride a bike for five years.
05:44By the way, actually, now that I think about it, I think he said, like, riding a bike, before.
05:48Oh, really?
05:49I think he's even used that before.
05:50He's in reruns for his cliches, too.
05:52I don't know if it was his shoulder injury.
05:53I don't know if it was after the – I actually think it might have been his first year
05:58after the suspension, where it came back and people were talking about the time that he was away.
06:04I distinctly remember.
06:05It is jostling free now.
06:07I'm sure.
06:08Now we're saying it.
06:09I mean, in fairness, Deshaun – and I don't mean this in, like, a mean way –
06:11Deshaun is the clichΓ© quarterback.
06:13Like, he speaks in fluent cliches.
06:16That's why I always thought –
06:18All right.
06:18I got it.
06:19December 1, 2022.
06:20I knew I wasn't imagining it.
06:22Deshaun says it's like riding a bike.
06:24Looks forward in preparation for Texans and Joku misses second day of practice.
06:27Is he a robot?
06:28Did he just – did he have programming reset?
06:32Maybe it's just one he really likes.
06:34You know, maybe he doesn't like to think too much,
06:37and he doesn't like to stress himself too much.
06:39And so it's funny because this is coming after nearly – not playing for nearly two years.
06:44The same situation he's currently in right now, and Deshaun said,
06:48it's like riding a bike.
06:49Same thing.
06:49So clearly at some point he's decided this is the one he likes.
06:53But he couldn't ride the bike.
06:55The last six games of that year he couldn't ride the freaking bike.
06:59Yeah.
06:59So this is where the lesson's on everybody listening right now.
07:02He's done this before and then showed us he couldn't ride the bike.
07:05Are you going to pay attention this time,
07:07or are you going to believe that, no, this time will be different?
07:09The clichΓ©, it'll mean something different because now he says it, I don't know,
07:13four years later in the same exact situation after not playing for 700 days.
07:18Is it going to be different this time?
07:19I would say it's a little silly to think that it would be.
07:23216-474-0092.
07:24Does Deshaun believe he's back?
07:27While we're out here, Jake actually has to really – sorry about the actually there.
07:31It wasn't meant as a stray.
07:33Jake asked a question in the pre-show that I thought was really interesting,
07:38and it was whether or not if the competition continues to drag out,
07:44whether that's better for Deshaun or whether that's better for Shador,
07:48I would imagine it's better for Deshaun, right?
07:52Well, I mean, in the sense that it's still existing maybe,
07:55and so then he hasn't lost it at any point.
07:58I'm of the belief that the Browns want Deshaun Watson to win this thing,
08:01and so if I live with that mentality, then the longer this thing goes on,
08:06the more doubt that is creeping in.
08:07If it hasn't already crept in, that he's supposed to be the guy.
08:10I mean, I think you could probably engineer it either which way.
08:14I mean, I do imagine, like, if nobody's claiming the job,
08:18that means Deshaun is sticking in there, and just from what Munkin has said,
08:23maybe that's where he defaults, and maybe that's where he decides to go with Deshaun.
08:28But, I mean, we are about a week and a half away from that spot where it's just,
08:32all right, a decision has to be made.
08:34I'm thinking.
08:35And then you go there.
08:36Everyone says the 23rd.
08:37It seems right to me.
08:38After the second preseason game, you see what happens under the bright lights.
08:42You see what happens.
08:42I mean, Munkin's not giving these guys a series to figure it out.
08:47The starter for the Bears game is going to play a whole first half,
08:50and then the other quarterback is going to play the third quarter.
08:53This is not a tiny amount of action that these guys are getting.
