00:00We heard from a former NFL quarterback on his podcast just yesterday.
00:05This is some really great stuff.
00:07This is why Ryan Fitzpatrick's on TV.
00:09This is why he does a lot of great things with him.
00:12And Andrew Whitworth, Fitz and Wit, is their podcast.
00:15And Ryan Fitzpatrick, this is a very nice detailed breakdown of why...
00:21I know.
00:22Owner of $40 million.
00:26Here's a nice detailed breakdown about why Deshaun Watson actually won the job.
00:30Rarely is he playing on time.
00:32I think this is probably why he lost the job to Deshaun.
00:35Rarely is a play getting operated like it's supposed to be operated.
00:38Your read is 1-2-3.
00:40That ball's got to come out.
00:41You've got a bunch of young receivers and you've got a bunch of young skill position guys.
00:44Deshaun Watson's delivering it on time and he's putting it in the right spot more often than not.
00:48Shador, antsy in the pocket a little bit.
00:51Wandering eyes.
00:52Those are things he can improve at.
00:53You've seen it in the preseason.
00:55He's seen the field a little bit better.
00:56Outside the numbers, 10-20 yards, you just don't see Shador throw it out there much.
01:01Preseason, what do we see right away?
01:02He gets a little comeback to the left side in that range.
01:05He has the arm to do it.
01:07He has the talent to do it.
01:08We've just got to see it a little bit more.
01:09So that's Ryan Fitzpatrick.
01:11I thought that that was about as fair as you're going to get.
01:14Totally measured.
01:15From anybody outside.
01:16And he also, he basically killed Deshaun's inability to throw the ball down the field too.
01:22He says he just can't do it anymore.
01:23No.
01:24And I think that that probably makes a lot of sense.
01:27Like you asked me, you know, what's worse than all this?
01:30Is it Shador not being able to beat Watson or Watson having to compete with Shador?
01:36And I think it's absolutely Watson having to compete with Shador.
01:39Well, there was a bigger conversation there though.
01:41The bigger conversation was in the afternoon show.
01:46They went after Watson for taking so long to win the competition.
01:51And I'm like, well, wait a second.
01:51You guys wanted both guys to get a start, right?
01:55So when was this decided after both guys got a start?
01:58So why all of a sudden is it, this is embarrassing for Deshaun.
02:02What would you have said if Deshaun Watson would have been named the starter a week ago?
02:06Which I think Todd Munkin probably wanted to do.
02:08What would you guys have all said?
02:09You guys would have all said, this is the most unfair quarterback competition in the end.
02:12And then they wait a week.
02:13And now you're still saying.
02:14Well, you're talking about you guys or them.
02:16All the people in that camp.
02:17And in the end, you're still saying it.
02:19So Todd Munkin, I guess, should have just named Deshaun Watson the starter a week earlier
02:23and then given him all the reps to get him truly prepared for this next game,
02:28you know, for the actual season opener.
02:30I see where you're coming from, but I think it's kind of embarrassing.
02:32If we're using that word, I think it's kind of embarrassing for Deshaun Watson no matter what.
02:36Well, his career here has been embarrassing.
02:39That's what I mean.
02:40That stuff's over.
02:40But I'm talking about in the actual competition, if the fans are all in Shador's corner
02:46and they all want him to play, right?
02:48But all he needed to do was come out and look, you know, look better than Watson.
02:54And he really didn't, according to everybody who's been there.
02:57And, you know, that's what we just played the clip.
02:59Detailing the differences between the two.
03:01And again, Fitzpatrick's not saying Shador can't get there eventually.
03:05But he's not there now.
03:07You know, this was a golden opportunity for him to be able to win one of the easier jobs
03:12there is to win in the NFL.
03:13And if he couldn't win it here, he wasn't going to win it anyway.
03:16I think that what Ryan Fitzpatrick just gave us, though, was kind of an inside glimpses
03:20to why Shador wasn't day one.
03:23And it wasn't conspiracy.
03:27It wasn't preconceived notions.
03:29It wasn't nastiness.
03:30I think he gave it why.
03:31That's why, like, listen, I called it a race to the bottom because that's kind of what
03:35it is in so many ways.
03:37I think we've turned this into a huge, nasty gutter fight over a couple of guys that probably
03:44won't be here next year.
03:46Like, one guy, he will leave a legacy because of the dead cap space.
03:51But two guys that probably won't be here next year will clear out that room and will probably
03:55bring in somebody else.
03:56And we'll probably bring in another veteran from somewhere else.
03:58So, by the way, like, for guys who are looking for another crack at it somewhere else that
04:04we haven't talked about, kind of now is the time to put your best foot forward and see
04:07whether or not maybe a Gardner Minshew starts out the season next year in front of a rookie
04:13if you don't want to start that rookie right off.
04:15Which you could turn right around and go, well, how is Dante Moore that good if he can't beat
04:19out Gardner Minshew?
04:20Well, not ready is not ready.
04:21And I think that that's what Ryan Fitzpatrick is saying.
04:24You know, you're not ready yet.
04:26That's exactly what Ryan Fitzpatrick is saying.
04:28And that's kind of the thing I was saying yesterday is that, hey, I'm not going to turn
04:33around and make the situation worse if I really just don't believe right now that you're ready
04:38to go out there and conduct it.
04:40It's not week 14 where anything goes, who the hell cares?
04:44We got to do what we can.
04:45It's week one.
04:46And you have a first year head coach.
04:48And he's trying to get started off in the best foot he possibly can.
04:51So he's going to go with who he trusts more.
04:53And if he trusts Deshaun Watson more, then I'm going to say it's not a very good quarterback
04:58room.
04:58But if we're talking about the embarrassment overall, it's got to be more embarrassing for
05:02the guy that had to go after the fans, got mad about it, but honestly, that won the competition
05:08for a team that they won a competition that they have no intention of keeping him after
05:15this year.
05:16Well, that, but that's what I'm saying.
05:18That's pretty embarrassing.
05:19The whole thing was set up, how easy would it have been for this directive coming from
05:24the Haslams?
05:24How easy would it have been to go with the guy that could sell all the jerseys that was
05:29a fan favorite?
05:30Well, yeah, you and I have been lockstep on that one.
05:31This would have been the easiest thing in the world, but he wasn't good enough, so they
05:34couldn't do it.
05:35They couldn't even get him ready for week one.
05:37But again, I go back to, this is probably the reason he was more day three than he was
05:43day one.
05:43Of course.
05:44Okay.
05:45But is it embarrassing for a guy who's a fifth rounder?
05:48Stay with me.
05:49I understand he's got a big name.
05:51Who was supposed to go number two overall, according to his fan base.
05:53He didn't.
05:54Well, according to Mel Kiper Jr. as well.
05:56So I don't know what else to say about that.
05:57That's a guy who's made a hell of a lot of money that everybody wanted to put in the
06:00Hall of Fame two years ago.
06:01And now all of a sudden, he doesn't know his ass from a hole to ground about players.
06:04Okay.
06:04So I'm not trying to get petty about that.
06:06I'm just trying to give a reasonable explanation.
06:08If we stick to the facts of the matter, then he was a day three choice.
06:12All right.
06:12How many fifth round guys end up being the starting quarterback week one the next year?
06:16Not very many, not very many whatsoever.
06:18So I don't look at it as this giant mishap and this giant mess of a QB where the NFL
06:25has
06:25told you over and over and over again, what they think of them lack of a trade market.
06:30If there were a trade market, do you think that that would have happened already?
06:34Do you think that they might've done that?
06:35Do you think that they would, he would have been taken higher?
06:37Yes, yes, yes.
06:38So I don't want to hear about that.
06:40You're getting a former quarterback who played in this league a long time, who made good money
06:45in this league for a long time.
06:46At one point was a starter and one team thought he was a high level starter for them, but it
06:50still knows what he's talking about.
06:52Giving you a reasonable look into why one guy won the job over the other.
06:56And it's not about embarrassment to me on one side, because it makes sense that a fifth
07:01round guy is going to be the week one starter the next year in his second season, but it
07:06doesn't make sense to a lot of people that the 30 year old who used to be an MVP candidate
07:11is now battling it out, quote unquote, with a fifth round guy.
07:15That is more embarrassing.
07:16One guy's made a hell of a lot more money than the other one, but that's still more embarrassing.
07:20I guess I'm just reacting to the pity party.
07:21I heard, I've been hearing.
07:22I'm not trying to have a pity party.
07:23I'm trying to give it to you as straight as I possibly can.
07:26It's just immediately once he lost the job, it's, well, it was, it was solidified from
07:30day one.
07:30I'm like, well, but everybody who has been there every day and who's talked to teams
07:34that have faced him have said that Deshaun was better.
07:36So we're just, we're just saying things now to make us feel better about the prospects
07:40of a quarterback who, by the way, will get the opportunity.
07:42I don't know why there's a pity party.
07:44He's going to play, but we all agree.
07:46And most of us think he's going to play more.
07:48Can I get into your psyche though?
07:49We've agreed with each other on a lot.
07:51So I think you're kind of looking for a fight and I'm not fighting you on it.
07:54And I think you might be getting a little bit frustrated.
07:56And so that's why you're going after some people who've been pretty pro-Shador Sanders
08:00here over the last couple of months.
08:01I'm enjoying that now we have to put out marching orders for everybody to agree in
08:04unison that his name is not to be said again.
08:07Now we violated the backup quarterback.
08:08He's the more popular person.
08:10Unfortunately, we've violated the terms of the, we were going to say that we're not going
08:16to mention him.
08:16There was going to be a cutoff here, but we violated that already, unfortunately.
08:21Yeah.
08:22Cause he's the backup and people want to see him start.
08:24And if we're talking about the guy playing in week three, the moratorium has
08:27everybody said he's like Ryan Wilson was on CBS sports HQ.
08:30He's like, I don't expect Deshaun Watson to get to week three.
08:33How many people have said they don't expect Deshaun Watson to get to week three?
08:36A good fair majority of people, 75% of people say they don't expect Deshaun Watson to get
08:41to week three.
08:42Well guys, week three, ain't that far off.
08:43So guess who we're talking about?
08:44So I'm not having some weird party and some internet type.
08:47It sets up so much better for Shador now because they will have
08:51given that offensive line time to gel for another month.
08:54Well, no one wants to see that.
08:55And then he gets to go out there and be the hero with the fan base going nuts.
08:59If it all goes how we think it's going to go, Deshaun, I don't know where he's going
09:03to be.
09:04I don't know where he's going to be watching the game, but he will not be the starting
09:07quarterback by that time.
09:08If it goes the way we all think it's going.
09:09And no one wants to see that.
09:10And you know why?
09:11Because of what the quarterback did on the starting quarterback did back on Saturday.
09:14See, it'd be a lot easier to take had he had not done that back on Saturday.
09:17And I guess you could turn right around and say the fans shouldn't boo.
09:20That's the biggest line of BS I've ever heard in my life.
09:22It's an entertainment sport.
09:24They make good money to play this game.
09:26You have every right to boo.
09:27You don't have every right to do other things, but you have every right to boo.
09:30We will have this discussion.
09:31If they were 2-0 and this went like none of us thought it would, and they're 2-0 and
09:35he's actually playing well, then we'll have a different discussion on whether it makes
09:38sense to boo him going into week three.
09:41But I'll eat a hell of a lot of crow if he goes 2-0 because I don't think anybody
09:44out
09:44there, including the Browns think he's going to go 2-0.
09:47So if we're all getting ready for somebody else to take the job in the month of September
09:51for crying out loud here, then I guess his name's going to get brought up and get brought
09:55up several times over.
09:58And I think that there will be a natural die down around next week because you're going
10:02to have this odd week in between the game week that's coming up.
10:06That's going to be natural unless something else crazy happens.
10:10Who the hell knows?
10:11But I don't know if it's going to be any he is doing, but until then, yeah, because the
10:15starting quarterback went out and went after the fans.
10:18And that's something that all the people, either the folks that are Shador fans that really
10:22don't care for the Browns or mad at the Browns, that Browns fans who really don't care for
10:26any of them, that's what they can all agree on, that they don't want to see the other
10:30guy start.
10:31And if he wouldn't have said anything, it would have been a hell of a lot easier to take
10:34and people wouldn't have been having a pity party.
