00:00I wasn't thinking about Baker Mayfield when I was watching Deshaun Watson on Sunday, though.
00:05No, I wasn't either.
00:07Like, that wasn't my first thought.
00:09I will say I cringed for Baker when he ran to the end zone
00:16and about the three-yard line fumbled the ball into the end zone.
00:21That's rough.
00:22He's not real happy.
00:24He fumbled three times.
00:25Yeah, is he going to take that out on the Browns end?
00:27I think that's an overused statement, too.
00:30Oh, man.
00:32Two things I heard this weekend.
00:33Man, I feel bad for the Browns because of what happened with Baker.
00:38And Baker fumbled three times.
00:39And the other one I keep hearing that I keep laughing about is,
00:41man, I feel bad for Kent State because they got to play Ohio State after that Texas game.
00:47Man, they are just going to run the score up because they got to get style points back.
00:52Man, I don't buy that stuff.
00:54Sounds good, right?
00:56Sounds like it's something you'd say at the bar.
00:58Or, oh, man.
00:59After a few.
01:00Yes, right?
01:02I mean, if you think that's reality, it's not.
01:05I mean, yeah, Ohio State could run the score up on Kent State, sure.
01:09I mean, that's reality, too.
01:11I just – but I don't know that, Baker Mayfield, you get one play into the game
01:15and you get hit by Jared Verse or somebody.
01:18And all of a sudden, you can't care that the other team is the Browns.
01:21You better care about helping the Buccaneers win.
01:24I just think sometimes when you get so caught up in what the other team's doing,
01:28you forget what your team's doing.
01:29And that causes issues.
01:31I think there's more to that reality than, oh, here comes the payback.
01:35Man, look at that.
01:37Baker Mayfield.
01:38Oh, he's going to eat up his old team.
01:41He's going to show them.
01:43Show who?
01:44The players on the field?
01:45They have nothing to do with Baker.
01:47You're going to show up at the front office?
01:48Okay.
01:49Well, they'll feel bad.
01:50Okay.
01:51They already know they messed up by bringing Sean Watson in.
01:55They know it.
01:56Come on.
01:57We all know it.
01:58It was a bad move.
02:00And now we're just kind of –
02:02Waiting it out.
02:03Yes.
02:03That's exactly what we're doing.
02:05What else did Mary Kay say that piqued your interest there?
02:08I thought she was very – and I agree with her.
02:14She was defending just – and not defending Todd Munkin or the Browns or Deshaun,
02:21but defending the notion that he gets another start.
02:24And I agree.
02:27They were awful.
02:28They played a terrible football game.
02:30The offense wasn't good.
02:31No aspect of the game was good for the Browns other than special teams.
02:39And that's great, but obviously special teams won't win you a game all by itself, usually.
02:46And I agree with what she said.
02:49If you went ahead and named the guy the starting quarterback before the season started,
02:54then he gets more than one game.
03:00I'm surprised – and you tell me, I don't know what it looked like after –
03:04on the post-game show on Sunday.
03:05How many people were screaming for Shador after the game on Sunday?
03:10Not –
03:10I haven't heard nearly what I thought.
03:12Not as many.
03:13People were just screaming against the Browns and Deshaun.
03:17It was the most volatile post-game show I think we've ever had.
03:21Just – I mean, did you have to hang up on a lot of people or did you –
03:24I mean, you tend not to do that.
03:26I hung up on one guy, Dan, and what was it?
03:29About a minute and a half, two minutes into his thing
03:32as he was going through the entire history of the Browns since 99
03:35and why it was bad.
03:36We could have definitely put battle him of the Republic under it.
03:38And the next guy who called yelled at me for cutting off the other guy
03:41because he said he was making great points.
03:43And I thought, can we talk about today's game, please?
03:45It's a post-game show.
03:49Did you say it like that?
03:51No, I didn't.
03:54I don't know.
03:55I just – I know that when I filled in for you on that show,
03:57the venom on that show is pretty –
03:59Oh, it's nasty, man.
04:00It's pretty deep.
04:01You know who is great to have with me on that show?
04:05Tyvus.
04:06Absolutely.
04:08Tyvus is level-headed, man.
04:10Did you –
04:11I love having him on this show.
04:12Did you think –
04:14I don't –
04:15I think Mary Kay was pointing out facts.
04:18I don't think –
04:19People don't want facts, Andy.
04:20I mean, was it a hardcore defense, though, for why Deshaun is?
04:25No, but I –
04:26Or just trying to explain why.
04:27I agree with what she said.
04:29Andy, they –
04:32Again, if it were me,
04:34Deshaun wouldn't have been named the starting quarterback.
04:37I don't think any of the options are good ones, though.
04:39You know, don't get me wrong.
04:41I am not saying that Shadour is the clear-cut starting quarterback of this team.
04:47But if I'd have had a choice, I'd have picked Shadour.
04:51Deshaun's not going to be here next year.
04:53So why are you playing him?
04:54I know.
04:55There's money.
04:55There are all kinds of things.
04:57I wouldn't have done it.
04:59I would have started Shadour.
05:00Heck, I'd have made the competition between Shadour and Dylan.
05:05You know?
05:05But they didn't do that.
05:07So under the situation that they laid out for us since day one,
05:13I would have picked Shadour.
05:15They didn't.
05:17All right, so Deshaun should get another couple of starts.
05:19He should.
05:20Honestly, Andy, I think he needs to start the home opener.
05:24I do.
05:27Otherwise, it's one of two things.
05:28He either starts the home opener or he never plays here again.
05:34It's one or the other.
05:36Well, remember he said it's like having 17 road games.
05:38Well, okay, fine.
05:40You know, other guys have been booed in their home stadiums.
05:42Yeah, that's not the first time.
05:44Yeah, I mean, come on.
05:45You got 230 million reasons not to really care.
05:48Was Texas not booing the Longhorns early?
05:51I heard some boos early in the first half of that game.
05:54Well, that's okay.
05:54I honestly, that's a hurdle that he's going to have to get over
05:58if he's going to have any kind of a season at all.
06:02And if they don't let him get to game three and start it,
06:06then he's done here.
06:07And maybe that's the way it should be.
06:09But if he doesn't start that game, Andy,
06:12you'll never be able to roll him out for a home game, will you?
06:16No, not unless somebody's hurt.
06:18I wouldn't think.
06:18You'd be in a very, very awkward.
06:20You'd have to have three guys get hurt.
06:23If you don't roll him out for game three.
06:25Yeah.
06:26And Shadur were to start and get hurt.
06:29And Dylan comes off the injured list and gets hurt.
06:32I would start tailing green over Deshaun.
06:35If you don't start him in game three, then you're just kidding yourself.
06:42I would give him game three and then some.
06:45Let's see what he can do.
06:46If he can play better, great.
06:48Then you've got your guy.
06:49They're clearly not sold on Shadur, Andy.
06:51If they were sold on Shadur, he'd be the starting quarterback.
06:54Wouldn't you say that 90% of the people out there think that if they don't win this week,
06:58that they are ready to see Shadur start?
06:59Oh, 90% don't matter.
07:01Only one guy matters.
07:02And that's Todd Munkin.
07:03The majority of the people have watched this team every week.
07:07Or maybe Jimmy Haslam.
07:09True.
07:10The majority of folks think.
07:11Well, but that doesn't matter.
07:12I'm just saying, Jeff.
07:14The majority of the folks thought Shadur should start in the first place.
07:18Well, that's true.
07:19But we talk to everyone.
07:20We're the ones talking to everybody every day.
07:22We care.
07:23I care what people think.
07:25That's why we do what we do.
07:26Because we care what people think.
07:29It's not why.
07:30I care what you think.
07:32Gives me points to argue off of.
07:34Yes.
07:35Again, if he comes out and looks like dog mess again, then you're going to have a decision.
07:41Yes, you are.
07:42Yes.
07:42Yes, you are.
07:43But I would start him again.
07:45Why not at this point?
07:46Right.
07:47I wouldn't, but I wouldn't have done it to begin with.
07:50I'm where you guys are.
07:51I understand this is out of my hands.
07:53If I am the Cleveland Browns, though, I'm sorry.
07:55If he's going to go out there and play like dog mess once again, like he did on Sunday,
08:00and he's going to do that at Cleveland Browns Stadium, I'm not doing this.
08:04So here's two of my points.
08:05I'm not having, ladies and gentlemen, your starting quarterback, Deshaun Watson,
08:10lead every single news story coming in.
08:14If I'm Jimmy Haslam, you're going to see that on ESPN, NFL Network, CBS, NBC that night, Fox, all the
08:21highlights.
08:22We're going to talk about this later on.
08:23And we're not bringing up what might be the most valuable point of all.
08:30The more they lose, the more likely it is that they get their choice of quarterbacks next year.
08:35CBS put out a mock draft.
08:38We'll talk about this a little more extensively later on.
08:41And we're going to look at quarterbacks.
08:43They put out a mock draft yesterday.
08:45They had five quarterbacks going in the first round.
08:49And they had the Browns drafting 11th in the first round.
08:55Now, don't ask me why they had the Browns drafting 11th.
08:58Yeah, I don't see it.
08:59But they did.
08:59Yeah.
09:00And they had three quarterbacks coming off the board, one, two, three.
09:04And the Browns took a quarterback at 11 that, I'll be honest, I had never heard of.
09:10So, the more they lose now, nobody wants to say this, the more they lose now, the better their chance
09:17of getting the guy they want at quarterback next year.
09:20And then good luck convincing him to come here.
09:25You have another point on that, or no?
09:27Because I saw you going back on that.
09:28Oh, I mean, I echo everything except for the last one on good luck.
09:33I don't know if anybody's going to play that card.
09:35I don't know if anybody has the real say to play that card.
09:38Oh, there's a guy named Manning who has a little family history of doing it.
09:44Yeah, that feels a little different, though.
09:46I don't know.
09:47Again, I don't know.
09:48I'm not, hell, I can hardly predict the present.
09:51Why in the world am I going to try to figure out the future?
09:53The one disaster is people not coming to the game.
09:55Like, let's say he looks bad and Baker destroys the Browns.
10:01Are you going to boo, or are you just staying home watching on TV?
10:06I'd hate to think that there'd be empty seats for the home opener, but you never know.
10:11You never know.
