04:13at home I think the Browns would be even less likely to start Deshaun Watson because I think they
04:18know like the best benefit to putting Deshaun out there at the beginning of the season is he has two
04:25games to maybe not look like crap where maybe he won't get booed out of the building and we can't
04:30you can't let the boo birds get in the way of any of this that's the that's the big thing

04:33though I just gave this campaign of like if you want to let the Browns know you're disappointed and
04:37upset make like make your voice known but ultimately don't listen to that part listen to this part but
04:41no well no because the Browns are swayed clearly they have it hasn't been swayed by what the public
04:45sentiment is before but like I I just think that's fundamentally and this is where the Browns have a
04:50a different way of this good teams don't care about whether or not you boo or cheer I can't fun
04:57I can't across the board say the Browns fall into that bucket of good teams that don't pay attention
05:01to whether you boo or whether you cheer and so maybe maybe they would be scared out of the first

05:06but if they're scared out of the first two games and and and part of the reason why like if

05:10two games are at home they would go with your door over Deshaun the way that you're implying if that
05:14is actually in their calculus it's why they stay bad good teams do not care about that type of thing

05:24means they don't care right clearly but but I can also understand they look at this and go
05:30all right the first two weeks he'll be on the road and maybe he's in a rhythm by the time

05:34week three and that gives him a chance with fans yeah the problem here is that you just you can't

05:39at whether or not the fans sentiment is going to be everything and I really don't think I think for
05:44years now they've showcased the first part of what you said is that they just do not care what the
05:48fans think when it comes to a lot of this stuff but I would be really surprised if they're worried
05:52about the boo birds and that factoring into the equation we heard Mary Kay Cabot say on the morning
05:57show that Deshaun starting the preseason off with the preseason game number one says he has a slight
06:04edge Charles Robinson agreeing and I don't know I'm just not there I just it's weird like I am very
06:11invested in this quarterback battle but I just I think a lot of the jostling for who's number one
06:17and who's number two or who has a slight edge I just nothing has come off what I've actually seen
06:22with my very own eyes no it doesn't match up she'd always been the better quarterback in these
06:26practices but here's what I would say if you think that Deshaun is the advantage right now I'm not
06:31going to tell you that you're wrong I think the important part of this happens in the next nine
06:35days though I think the next nine days is what shapes everything about this quarterback battle
06:39and so if you think he's got a slight edge or you think it's neck and neck either way doesn't

06:44matter what's going to matter is the next nine days yeah well and I like here's the thing guys

06:54plays well on Saturday and it what is it uh canonizes the idea in your head that maybe you can

07:26Deshaun's going to take care of business and again like I don't think he's going to look like a
07:31train wreck you mean by take care of business you mean not be good or you mean I think he's

07:35look like an NFL quarterback but I think you're going to be able to look at this and go is

07:39really what we're risking it for you know what I mean like is this really we're going to upset
07:43everyone for maybe take a couple games away from Shador which is going to slant his development
07:48like and that's another thing that I mean I kind of pushed back with Daryl when we had him at

07:53o'clock yesterday this narrative of Shador is going to get seasoning on the bench and he's going to
07:59get dramatically better one of the more confusing storylines that people continue to try to push and it
08:04runs contrary to this whole media narrative that is that has been in the NFL the last
08:11decade that the guys don't sit anymore because the only way you actually get seasoning is if you're
08:15on the damn field the other thing that's become increasingly annoying with this is like well you
08:18have to find out if the old Deshaun exists I would argue that you have to find out whether or
08:24not
08:24Shador Sanders can play football that that should take a a better priority for this team than whether
08:29or not Deshaun Watson can find the fountain of youth like whether or not Shador Sanders can play football
08:33should be how we be how we're phrasing this but for some reason that just gets cast aside as if
08:38nobody cares to find out that answer I'm sorry I feel like I care to find out that answer after
08:42watching how the left tackle battle went where you know Spencer Fano had to really uh work to go ahead
08:49and get up with the ones we've seen this with other younger players in the roster I just have a
08:54feeling
08:54that that's that's why Deshaun's starting this weekend that that Todd Monk is giving the edge in
09:00in who starts first uh to Deshaun Watson but that is a razor thin margin and it doesn't mean that
09:08Deshaun is definitively ahead it just means he wants Shador to get to a point that Shador is not
09:13too yet I mean I'm at the spot where I'm not going to toss away everything we've already seen
09:17in these preseason practices because they do matter and it matters that he Deshaun was unplayable a week ago
09:21and now seems like he's found it a little bit but ultimately I I'm really just trying to focus in

09:26the next nine days I think that it's going to tell us everything that we need to know within this
09:30answer I think the Browns decision is going to come in the next nine days if they are if they

09:35decision to be made that is unless if they if the thing's been rigged for Deshaun the whole time
09:39the nine days won't matter but assuming this is a legit on the up and up competition then I think
09:45the next nine days is where it all comes to play all right if if Deshaun looks decent on Saturday

10:53the idea that they at least made a decision I don't know that they'd be celebrated for it being
10:56Deshaun Watson and them being so emphatic about it all so I don't think they'd be celebrated by
11:01Browns fans because I again I still think I don't I don't know that the Browns have really thought
11:06about how bad this could go with Deshaun because they only seem to consider the upside with things
11:12so like well if it works out and then they just assume things are going to work out
11:15they've done this they always do like the pie in the sky version because they're so confident

11:41if the Browns were to name Deshaun the starter on Monday after even a mediocre performance on
11:47Saturday I think around the NFL there would be a round of applause for them so I'm just I'm just
11:53the guy sitting in the corner booing and yelling at people saying do you not remember he wasted four
11:57years of all of our lives has that not been the last six months of you and me by the
12:01way well I know
12:02I know it's kind of it's just maddening is what it is and and it's understandable from the national
12:06perspective because they're not like you me and every fan listening right now that have
12:10legitimately gone through four years of our life of trying to tell people that Deshaun Watson cannot
12:16play football watching him not play football and then them telling us no but he can and us seeing
12:22it not work out and that it's the maddening part about all this but if you can have one preseason
12:26game be enough to shift into Deshaun's favor convincingly enough to say he's the starter for
12:31week one then this wasn't a real process uh or they have already made a decision you made up your
12:37decision and they just needed to kick it over the one yard line at some point then you had to
12:40have
12:41made it in the last six days because last Tuesday he looked like he couldn't play well you see there's
12:45a lot of context this happened really quick if that was the case there's a lot of context that you
12:50just don't understand JP yeah it's not that the Browns have cooked the books in any way it's the
12:55context this is the idea I mean a lot of this and a lot of the reason why Deshaun leading

13:01uh just kind of like a hold on can we can we take a second can we just can we
13:04just stop and take a
13:05second is that idea that exists in a lot of people's brains that it was always going to be
13:09Deshaun no matter what happened in the field confirmation bias and it would well it would
13:13just it would continue to exist if after him looking unplayable last Tuesday and then you
13:17see him in one preseason game you then give him the starting job does that not does that not
13:21continue on oh yeah yeah no I mean I would definitely say confirmation bias and but but all
13:26right there's difference from the media having it because again media folks if you're not in town
13:30are prone to uh narratives and you know talking each other in circles that stuff happens all right

15:15the way that it's looked so far where it's like all right but they at least were splitting reps with
15:18the ones and then we could see something in the preseason where maybe it was just a tie goes to
15:23Deshaun situation I won't get angry about that but I will get angry if after one preseason game
15:28if Deshaun looks mediocre at best and they're like yep all we needed to see that was pretty awesome
15:33no it wasn't I also so there all right so there's another angle to this which is if you were
15:39to do
15:40this meaning switch up in between when we're supposed to be in the thick of this quarterback
15:44battle again I've kind of given the old Peterland pass for whatever happened last Sunday where it
15:50was like Todd Munkin said Shador's gonna get the ones and then they went and Deshaun got all the ones
15:55because I was like all right that one practice I can understand things happen like well and they
16:00corrected that they corrected that because then on Monday then Shador got to go with the ones and it
16:04was everything was back in order and also this is why they probably shouldn't have
16:08pre-practice availability and probably should do the availability after practice but I'm just
16:14getting ahead of myself but I can give you the old Peterland pass on that until you do the old
16:19switcheroo for the actual job itself and then it's gonna feel like all right you don't owe us honesty
16:25but you certainly don't owe fans dishonesty you can do better than that yeah I know in saying all this
16:31I'm not expecting them to switch up on us and a Monday after preseason game number one have this
16:36happened and have me go crazy I'm not expecting that my blood pressure seems pretty good right
