00:25decided to to go ahead and double down on that when speaking to the media yesterday

00:33this one for a good little bit but you know the whole bulletin board material and thing like that
00:37i'm just ready to go get put them hands on i'm just gonna keep it simple like that did you

00:41cam hayward's comments the other day about what you had said after the game i'm not worried about cam
00:45i'm not worried about their whole line i'm not worried about nobody they got on their team
00:48we're out there to go to dominate we're about to make pittsburgh guys on sunday
00:53yeah like that's the type of thing when i hear it i'm just like uh jared like you don't have

00:59you know go through it and give them anything extra to play for and like yeah listen jared's
01:03gonna go out there and talk and i like a player with the the utmost confidence i i do enjoy

01:09there is something to this now where i look at those type of comments though
01:14and i kind of think to myself it doesn't jared verse now have to play a really nice game
01:17like a somebody who statistically has not produced and i think it's played pretty good football even
01:22though i think a lot of fans are generally pretty upset with the way that he's played
01:26i think he's played pretty well right he's gotten pressures on the quarterbacks and played
01:31particularly well in the run game uh in a way that even miles garrett was not producing this way in
01:36the run game and being able to to set the edge now the browns aren't very good against the run
01:40but a
01:40lot of that's up the middle uh mason gray malik collins really good at getting off to the pasture
01:44that group not necessarily really good at bringing down running backs but still like i i've liked what
01:50jared versus done but i now kind of look at this game when you tell me not scared of their
01:54own line
01:54not scared of cam hayward not scared of anybody on their team and you make the claim we're gonna
01:58make pittsburgh ours well yeah now i think jared versus kind of putting himself into a box if you
02:03go better go out there and play damn well like i better not see you on your backside i better

02:26the flip side of it is if you lose this game i think everybody's looking at jared versus comments
02:31so like you've put yourself in an all or nothing scenario but i i wouldn't be surprised if we have
02:37some callers on monday and tuesday across the station uh being like hey they might have won but
02:43jared versus better stop talking crazy at teams because uh he's not exactly going to back it up
02:48and i already see people on social media you know highlighting the jeffrey simmons trade being
02:52like how did they get more for jeffrey simmons than the browns did for miles garrett i push back
02:56on those i think you got more because i like jared verse but i also understand that people are looking
03:02at it and going well you got two first round picks for jeffrey simmons you didn't get two first round
03:05picks for miles garrett i get that side of it but like that is where the jared verse actually has

03:10show up and do his part comes into this i think desperately the guy could probably use a good game

03:17like you could use uh just a statistically strong game to maybe get some people off your back
03:22quiet the noise surrounding you but like jared verse right now if you go and look at he has 17
03:27total tackles he has zero sacks i i mean again i think he is creating pressure i do think he's
03:33playing well in the run game but when you go through and obviously get rid of the all-time single
03:40season sacks leader from that season right miles garrett setting the record and you go after jared
03:45verse i don't think a lot of people are going to be very happy when you're seven weeks into this
03:49thing and you don't have a single sack to show for it like that is part of hey i mean

03:54and told you i don't need jared verse to go out there and put up stats right like i'm not

03:58to be staring at the sack numbers for jared verse going that was a good year that wasn't a good

04:02how did you live up to miles garrett but i do expect you to bring the quarterback down a couple

04:07times this year like we are bordering on halfway through the season and jared has yet to get there
04:13so it is just kind of this spot of now you are putting yourself into a position where i do

04:18you need to go through and produce by the way against a team very hard to produce against like
04:22aaron rogers is not the type of quarterback that i necessarily want to hear my defensive end
04:26uh sitting there being like yeah this guy not scared of this guy we're gonna have a great game
04:32like and listen aaron obviously isn't what he was even five years ago he's still a quarterback
04:37that's going to get the ball out tremendously quickly that he's still a you know a run game right
04:40now in pittsburgh that is very strong with jalen warren defense is coming off of the worst game
04:46they've played all season and jared's talking about the fact like this entire defense is going
04:52to be inducted into the hall of fame that is the type of confidence he is talking about right now
04:56and he is speaking with conviction on it it just is a little bit of a hairy spot now again

05:04rivalry aspect of this i like that somebody goes out there and you know what if this is what jared
05:08versus got to do to put a little bit extra of a chip on his shoulder i mean we had

05:13mayfield here for what four years uh we know what you know a guy who needs a chip on his

05:18when he gets that chip what it can turn into so like any way you got to find it if

05:22extra motivation if you need a little extra something to play for on a sunday i'm all there
05:26like go find the extra thing to play for but it now comes back to backing it up and i
05:32think obviously
05:33the big part of this is you didn't only just have a target on your back you now most definitely
05:38have a target on your back and you have given the sealers bulletin board material like that is
05:43the definition of bulletin board material when you go out there and say hey i i'm going to take
05:48not just any team but my divisional rival their city and make it ours that is the thing that every
05:56single player is thinking about when they run out of the tunnel that is the thing that they have on
06:00their mind from a pittsburgh standpoint so that's obviously going to be front and center that's
06:04obviously going to be something that they talk about you you just have to be ready to sit there
06:10and be able to back it up because now the bulletin board stuff is something major that is something
06:15you have to pay attention to and i just don't ultimately love it now of course uh jared first
06:20was asked about the bulletin board material you know basically whether or not you're worried about
06:24handing it to him and here's what jared had to say nah i think if you uh get too focused

06:29bulletin board material if you need that to kind of hype you up and to get ready for a game
06:32if you
06:32need a coach to come up there and be like oh this is what they said then you're not ready

06:35i live for the type of football that you just have pure aggression for it i live for the type

06:38football where the fans are yelling at you and screaming at you where the coaches are you know
06:42getting at you you're in the coach's face the coach is in your face everyone just has pure passion
06:46and pure love for the game if you need bulletin board material then you're not part of the game i

06:59board material to wake you up and get you ready to play for a game then yeah jared's absolutely right
07:03the problem is when you're already awake and ready to go for a game and somebody goes out there and
07:08talks about i mean i played sports growing up you try to get ready for every single game you try

07:13awake for that game these are ones that are easy to get ready for if i'm going through the opening
07:18lines or something and somebody starts talking trash or i know somebody on the other team that's
07:22talking trash before the game you don't think that gets you going a little bit more like that is not
07:26just the the cherry on top of you know what uh i was already dialed up to 100 i'm gonna
07:31find a way
07:32to give 110 in this game like i'm going to reach for something that i didn't even know was there
07:36and push myself to the brink yeah that's what you're putting into these that's what you're giving
07:40them i don't understand the bulletin board material giving in the first place and especially when
07:47your head coach is like opposite of bulletin board material right todd the entire time he's been sitting
07:52here he's not kevin's the fancy that that is the ultimate uh you get no bulletin board material
07:56period totally say some things but like you go look at todd munkin everything he said this week is
08:02that we're basically not giving pittsburgh anything this is just a normal game this is a sunday
08:07in the nfl that we are prepared to play they told us we're getting up into playing at one o

08:11we're gonna be ready to get up and play at one o'clock no matter who they put in front

08:15ton is keeping this as level-headed as possible and it does seem like i would say most of the
08:19players on the
08:20team have kind of i don't know just fit the mold on that approach not going outside the bounds pretty
08:26much sat there and dealt with it jared has been the opposite of it right he is the guy that

08:33now is like todd is saying one thing and jared is on the complete opposite end of this where
08:38todd's like ah we don't have to get up extra for this game and jared's basically sitting there like
08:42this is what i live for this game individually is why i play football i i just don't know that

08:49those extra things to be going on right now i the team's playing well uh you already have a good
08:54game in front of you i'm sure jared's ready for that as he's ready for every single sunday
08:58but that is a little something extra to i had to get the sealers going these are the big games

09:04when you go out and trade miles garrett and have to have a player involved this is kind of the

09:09where you need that player to start to to show up right you need him to step up in big
09:13moments you
09:13need him to produce when big parts of the season are on the line so jared needed that already i

09:19you've only amplified that and brought so much more attention to it when this game was not going
09:24to be about jared verse like so much of this week it was going to have nothing to do with

09:29because the stakes the big picture idea of it is already so large and jared has brought a lot of

09:35attention to himself so like he goes out there and doesn't play well and he's getting ripped apart
09:41on monday and tuesday this week there's not going to be a part of me that feels bad for it

09:45i'm not going to sit here and feel like you know sympathy for jared verse because
09:49you walked into this like you were asking for the extra attention to be there it is now your job

09:54show up and do it and todd munkin was asked today about sort of his thoughts on verse talking a

10:00bit of trash leading up to this game and here's what todd had to say i really haven't seen any

10:05really don't i mean i i've got a lot of respect for the stealers and the physical style of play

10:10they play with and i would hope that we're trending in that direction to be that kind of team because

10:15think that carries i think physicality mental stamina and that toughness carries especially as
10:21the weather turns so i don't speak for another man he speaks for himself i know this we're looking
10:27forward to playing here in a couple of days and like i said i've got a lot of respect for

10:31stealers and i expect a great environment and the reason that it's going to be that great environment
10:36is because we're playing better right i mean you get those environments the better you play
10:40the better the match up and we've earned that by the way we've played and now we've just got to

10:46and play james that sound like a guy who's about to go chew out jared verse you man he he
10:52he's trying
10:53to keep all fires down he don't want no smoke signals he's trying to not uh uh he doesn't want

11:05first you know what throughout the years for having miles garrett and for as great as he was
11:11we all i think could want a little more fire from him so i'm not mad at jared verse and

11:19with todd man 17 tackles is a lot and it'd be different that the defense as a whole wasn't
11:24producing at the same rate as last year the fact that the the defense hasn't fallen off independent of
11:30his individual um production i'm i'm okay with him being the the vocal leader like somebody
11:36sometimes has to be the guy to be out there and be your mouthpiece think of like draymond green for
11:41as impactful as he is you can look at the box score and say what did he do but everybody
11:46on his team
11:47will say we wouldn't have won xyz game without him yeah there's something there and like maybe i look
11:53at this team and they're i don't know let's say they're three and four heading into this game right
11:56still absolutely in the mix but maybe the last couple of weeks haven't gone their way they could
12:01use a little bit of a pick me up they maybe you know some of those sneezes some of the
12:04seasons that
12:05you play maybe you need to be snapped back into reality every once in a while like get woken up
12:08teams five and two they're awake like this team has everything to play for right now like in seasons
12:14like those that's where i maybe invite some of these comments right now i don't think you look at a
12:18browns player out there who needs a wake-up call right like they should be amped up ready to go
12:22they're playing good football those are the teams that are aware of hey we know what's on the line
12:27every single week we are playing with that fire and this team certainly is playing with that fire
12:30right now it just feels like i don't know this didn't feel like the week where i needed it where
12:36i have to point and also for guys to go out there i mean listen i like the chair versus
12:40a vocal leader
12:41and he has been that i do have to question right now just given the the state of you know
12:45one coming
12:46off your worst game uh defensively is a unit that you've played all season there's no argument
12:51against that they were i mean i guess you could throw jacksonville in there but that's kind of
12:55been wiped out my memory at this point like at least since week one the worst game that they've
12:59played defensively to then go out there and jared verse be the guy again like he's a vocal leader so
13:06i appreciate it in that aspect i just don't know if after the week you just played with the lack
13:11of
13:11production that you've had that jared verse should be the guy stepping up and talking for this team
13:16draymond can miss five three-pointers 16 layups and three free throws and he's still going to be
13:22the leader your production doesn't always impact the influence you have over your teammates but i
13:28appreciate the fact that he's the same guy from day one as he is today and with a young team
13:33as well
13:34i would argue that they more so would need that hey let's not get too comfortable in our spot where
13:41we
13:41are because yes even if we lose we still for the most part control our own destiny but let's not
13:46even let it get there let's go ahead and handle business i don't mind the wake-up call because it's
13:52such a young team i would say he's probably well not probably but he's one of the more veteran guys
13:57who has experience of playing in games that matter so i can i can appreciate him understanding this
14:02moment and wanting to press that upon his teammates especially since we got so many young guys yeah i mean
14:07there are a ton and like i do respect it in that aspect too but i don't know it just
14:12feels like a
14:13team right now like if casey concepcio now he's not the guy who's gonna go out there and talk trash
14:17because that doesn't really seem like who casey is but like he's coming off a game where he had 130
14:22receiving yards he's having a good season right now you want to go talk trash talk trash deshaun
14:26wants to go talk trash right now dude you you've led five game winning drives you want to be the
14:30guy
14:31might not be the right area and maybe i think deshaun should probably just lay a low profile but
14:37your gameplay can step back in and deliver the trash talk if you wanted it to now i'd make a
14:42pretty strong argument that i don't want my quarterback being the guy to go out there and
14:44talk trash uh a little bit too many free hit opportunities and dirty plays that can come
14:49your way from that so you just stay out of harm's way as much as possible like i think that's
14:55the
14:55danger of what i'm looking at right now too right when you say hey steelers play dirty and you put
15:00these extra implications like there there's a target on jared versus back like could there be a blind
15:04side block a chip block at his knee coming his way there absolutely could be but you don't only
15:09just put yourself in the way of fire you've entered the whole team into that you know ring of fire
15:14now
15:14too you put the defense more in the ring of fire but i think there's no unit that's better prepared
15:19to handle whatever blowback is the defense they've only been carrying the load for the team for the
15:25last four seasons yeah probably pretty close to that but the probably like cam hayward's the guy going
15:31back and forth to them like cam hayward plays defense you've now put quince on judkins in
15:35jeopardy you've now put sean watson and like i talk about it from a quarterback perspective because
15:39there are too many opportunities for a quarterback just to get lit up unsuspectingly right like i don't
15:45know that we're getting dirty play in this game jared verse will tell you they play dirty no matter
15:48what like are they going to go out there and take a cheap shot to take a cheap shot i
15:52would think not
15:53i would think there's a respect level in the nfl that usually those type of plays
15:56i would say for the most part across most games that you watch most weeks you watch
16:00really don't exist in a massive way like there there's been certainly players we can point to
16:05that aren't afraid to take those shots yes vanta's perfect i'm looking at you uh but most of the guys
16:10there's like that respect level if you're in the nfl i'm in the nfl i would want my career to
16:14go down
16:14that way i would want my season to be ended by that we're not going to play that game the
16:18other way
16:19but like you open the idea of it you open the possibility for that to be the case
16:23like you want to see what dirty play looks like i don't know how many guys around the nfl have

16:29a moral you know upstanding of ah deshaun watson's been in the league a long time i'm not going to
16:34take a cheap shot on him i i could think of a different way players might lean the other way
16:39uh i i just don't know you want to open that up while your team is playing well that's where
16:43you start to walk into a dangerous spot you start to run your mouth into a place where
16:49if a player wants to determine hey if cam hayward wants to go out there and play dirty again
16:53not the type not the the player across the nfl i would necessarily highlight but if he wanted
16:59to be he certainly could be and right now i don't know this team wants a quarterback change
