00:00My takeaway was he was basically excluding all of these practices anyway.
00:05He's excluding everything he's seen so far and is saying,
00:07I know that Deshaun Watson has started at the NFL level X amount of games more than Shador has,
00:14and that's the reason why he'd go with him.
00:15It's all about experience for Coach Hsu.
00:17It was nothing to do with anything else.
00:19Now, if you want to talk about the idea that he has to be 110% better than Shador,
00:23or Shador has got to be 110% the version of Deshaun, I think that's insane.
00:27Yeah, absolutely insane.
00:29Ty goes to Shador in this, not the other way around.
00:31Not just Ty, close game.
00:32Close game, exactly right.
00:3452-48 to Deshaun, it's still going to Shador.
00:38If you just sit there and think about it for more than three seconds,
00:40then just give the job to Shador.
00:42I also wonder if your preset is, I want my quarterback to have experience,
00:48and so that's what I'm going to fall back on.
00:50I wonder what can Shador do to take the job.
00:54He can't counter experience until he gets more NFL experience.
00:57Yeah, but that's kind of the problem with this setup to begin with anyway,
01:00is that if some of these things, like experience, are just going to be weighted so heavily in Deshaun's favor,
01:05then Shador is almost drawing dead, and that's a problem.
01:08And why I think it matters that Coach Riz is saying that is that Coach Riz is thinking like a
01:12coach.
01:13Coach Riz is thinking like how Todd Munkin will be thinking, not how you and I will be thinking.
01:17Well, and I think it's very important, like we were talking about Coach here previously before the show,
01:23and he was like, you know, I love some of the things I'm hearing because it sounds like stuff my
01:27dad and I would say, right?
01:29Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:29And so I do think for Coach, this is a great spot for him to be covering the Browns
01:34because I think these guys are more in line with how he coaches.
01:40Well, I think Stefanski, there was always a, you know, I've got to try and understand what Stefanski's thinking.
01:46It's not that, I mean, you know, Coach had a lot of respect for Coach Stefanski,
01:50but everything I keep hearing about Munkin and Warhop and all these guys is that, like,
01:57football guys are telling me these guys are doing it the way football guys do it.
02:02Well, I mean, think about, you know, you're under Harbaugh for so many years.
02:05Harbaugh's got a way of doing things, and it's a little bit more old school, is it not?
02:08And Stefanski, Stefanski was at the heart of it.
02:11He was a younger head coach.
02:13He really was.
02:14Like, the combination between Barry when he got the job and then Stefanski when he got the job,
02:18Barry was the youngest GM in NFL history, and Stefanski, as far as youngest head coach,
02:23McVay had that title, but it wasn't too far behind.
02:26Like, there was a youth attached to that, and I'm not going to say Munkin doesn't have the youth part
02:31of it.
02:31He's a land man.
02:31He can adapt to anything, Nick.
02:33Cartels.
02:34But there is an old school way of thinking, and Coach thinks that way,
02:37and Munkin thinks that way, too.
02:39I just think it's really interesting.
02:40I mean, at the crux of what Coach Reisland was saying this morning is that he's not considering the future,
02:45and I just think that might be the difference between levels of coaching.
02:51Well, so are they looking at it through a one-year silo?
02:53That's the big question I have then, because if you're not considering the future,
02:56if you think to yourself, Shador's not the quarterback in 2027 the same way Deshaun's not the quarterback in 2027,
03:00does it change your mind on who you go with?
03:02No, because I think it's so tough when we have these conversations,
03:07because you're trying to gauge, here's where Deshaun is today, here's where Shador is.
03:12The whole point of choosing for the future, the future is not 2027.
03:17The future is Week 10.
03:19You know, Deshaun is a developed quarterback.
03:21I'm sure he can knock some rust off if he hasn't played in two years,
03:26but Deshaun at this point in his career is going to be Deshaun.
03:29The question is, once you get, you know, can Shador, if it's operational stuff,
03:36or if it's, you know, how quickly he's processing stuff,
03:40can actually playing games make him better?
03:43And I think the answer is always yes in the NFL.
03:46If you've got a guy that says, okay, by Week 8, Shador's going to be better than Deshaun,
03:51then it's not even a question the answer is Shador.
03:54Yeah, and there's a lot of growing that you have to offer up a quarterback
03:57from going from year one to year two, whereas with Deshaun, I think we know what he is.
04:01And I don't, there's not, there's not much growing that's left to be had there.
04:04And I think there's this idea, I know this is going to happen,
04:07and I'm sure I'll do it, and I'm sure you'll do it, and every show will do it,
04:11and everybody with a TikTok will do it, that if Deshaun beats out Shador,
04:17that, you know, that is an indictment on Shador.
04:20Or what I struggle with that is this organization might have an agenda with Deshaun
04:24because of the contract and because of the optics of the trade
04:28that they might just want to see that one last time.
04:30Well, that's why people, there's people out there, national people,
04:34that believe that the finger's on the scale already as we get this thing going,
04:37as if Jimmy Haslam has already basically punched it in,
04:40and he's going to try to get some value out of what you see with Deshaun Watson.
04:44That is not even, that's not even like a hot take.
04:46That's not even like a tinfoil hat theory.
04:47That is almost the predominant thought that people have when discussing this battle.
04:51But that's what kind of drives me crazy is right now there's a lot of people saying
04:55very, you know, the most, what is it, the most competitive quarterback battle
04:59or the most honest quarterback battle, and it's like there will be a part of me
05:03that thinks if Deshaun gets this, hey, is this about things other than
05:07who's going to be the best player in six weeks or who's the best player now?
05:10So I don't think it will be, obviously I reserve the right to change my mind
05:14when we get there and see how this whole thing unfolds.
05:16It's a good disclaimer there, very strong disclaimer.
05:19Well, you know what I mean?
05:20I mean, we've got to see how this rolls.
05:21But a week from now he's like, it's Deshaun Watson,
05:23and I don't want to be beholden to some of these comments.
05:25You've got to see how it plays out.
05:27We do.
05:27But 50% of the reps right now, and they're rotating back and forth between the ones.
05:31I mean, think about it.
05:32You wouldn't do that if you really already thought who you were going with.
05:35I don't fundamentally believe that you would do that.
05:38Now what I think is going to be interesting.
05:39It's way too many reps just to give off.
05:41What I think is going to be really interesting is if we do that in reverse,
05:45whether people feel like if Shador wins,
05:47whether the anti-Shadorians are going to have a same similar spin.
05:52No, because it's easy for them to say, all right, Deshaun Watson was cooked.
05:55I think it's very easy for people to just look at it for what it is
05:59and the reality of Deshaun Watson not being very good at football at this point,
06:02if that's the reality.
06:02I mean, I guess that is a way of not giving Shador credit for winning the job.
06:06That's what they're going to do.
06:07They're going to say, you didn't beat out Deshaun Watson.
06:09Deshaun Watson hadn't played in 750 days.
06:11Deshaun Watson, last time we saw him, absolute garbage.
06:15He's coming off two different injuries.
06:17He can't play football anymore.
06:19I mean, honestly, that's, you know, we saw Jason out here today, Jason Lloyd,
06:22but his article today with The Athletic kind of hinted towards that idea of,
06:26like, he thinks that Deshaun can't even play football anymore at this point
06:29and then added on the bottom part of it is like, all right,
06:31so if Deshaun beats out Shador, what does that say about Shador Sanders?
06:34Like, no one's really going to leap.
06:37If you're an anti-Shador guy, you're not going to leap to give Shador credit
06:40for beating out Deshaun Watson.
