00:00The question was asked before the show, quote, does anyone really believe that Shanoor will start by week three?
00:08My answer, yeah.
00:10The answer to that was, why?
00:13And I was like, well, I saw Deshaun Watson, and then the answer to that was, I'm going to quote
00:18this.
00:20I think that's the stupidest thing I've heard all day.
00:23Now, it's only at that time, 5.30 in the morning, but.
00:26I will live up to that quote and tell you that it was 5 something in the morning.
00:31If you'd like, I'll let you set your scene for why you.
00:35I just, oh, so you're going to let me lay my own trap?
00:39No, go ahead.
00:40Why in the hell would Todd Munkin start a guy for two weeks and then just move to the other
00:45guy?
00:45Well, my only reasoning, I don't think that he would, like if Deshaun Watson throws four touchdowns a game in
00:51each of the first two weeks, like, no, he's going to start week three.
00:55Like, if it's four touchdowns and no picks.
00:57I'm not saying, I'm saying, I don't care if he throws three picks in the first two games apiece.
01:03I don't think they're pulling him out.
01:04Really?
01:05Yeah.
01:05Oh, see, that.
01:06Not by week three.
01:08Why would you do that?
01:09Why wouldn't you just start the year with Shadur?
01:11If you were going to be that quick with the leash, why wouldn't you just start the year with Shadur?
01:15I think that's what a lot of people are wondering.
01:16Yeah.
01:17So, why didn't he do it?
01:19Because he's going to stay with Deshaun for at least a month.
01:22Well, I think, okay, all right.
01:23So, I think that I get what you're saying now.
01:26Because my thought is, I have.
01:28But you already admit, you were wrong and I was right.
01:29Here we go, champion post.
01:31Well, yeah, that's fine.
01:31That's fine.
01:32You wait all weekend to do this, huh?
01:33Well, no, because I just didn't, I have no faith that he's going to perform well.
01:36And if he doesn't perform well on the road, I don't have any faith that he's going to perform well
01:40at home.
01:41You're getting things twisted.
01:42I am.
01:42Because I have no faith that he's going to perform well either.
01:45I also have no confidence that they're just going to go, okay, Shadur, it's yours now.
01:49Okay, they will.
01:50Here is the thing.
01:51They will get universally ripped if they just go to Shadur in week three.
01:56We've already done that, though.
01:56No, it'll be national.
01:58Like, the local, yes.
02:00The local's happening now.
02:01Like, everybody here that wants nothing to do with bringing back the psychological trauma,
02:08which we saw just a taste of, in that preseason game against Buffalo.
02:14Locally, there just isn't a lot of interest in that.
02:18The national story will go crazy.
02:20They'll go after Munkin.
02:21They'll go after Andrew Barry.
02:22They'll go after Jimmy Hatton.
02:24They'll go after everybody.
02:25If they have good reason to, fine.
02:29But I could see us getting a little defensive if they're just one-and-one
02:33and people think that they should go to Shadur Sanders in week three.
02:36They won't do it at one-and-one.
02:37They shouldn't, nor should they, at one-and-one.
02:41You've just started your season.
02:42At Owen's not my thought is, I just keep going back.
02:46Like, one of these two games, it's going to be hot.
02:49It's going to be balmy.
02:50But I think in one of these two games, you'll probably have some sort of a threat of weather.
02:54I'm imagining Tampa is more the threat of weather.
02:57It seems to be there's a horrible thunderstorm that rolls through there at least once a day.
03:01And so I would imagine it's that way, even though it's not that terribly far from each other.
03:06It's a long state, not a wide state.
03:08Still probably three hours.
03:10Still, yeah, still a ways.
03:11Right?
03:12Right.
03:12So I think that there is a threat of rain, and there's probably a threat of bad weather.
03:18He just doesn't play well in bad weather, and he doesn't play well regardless.
03:21And so I'm thinking if they're 0-2, and he, like, say he's got, like, two touchdowns and
03:26five picks in two weeks, and you're getting boat raised.
03:31He's getting pulled by, he's getting pulled in that second game, don't you think?
03:35Yeah, he probably does get pulled.
03:36Do you think he doesn't start game three, though?
03:39We're talking about things that are totally different.
03:41If he gets pulled in the second game, Owen, I feel like he's done.
03:47Why would you even go through the rigmarole, then?
03:49Todd, what are you doing if you do that?
03:51I would question Todd Munkin as a head coach.
03:54Okay.
03:55Every day.
03:55But I do think.
03:56Because you made a decision, and then you didn't stick to your gun.
03:59Yeah, we're thinking, real quick, Ken, we're thinking of it from probably too much of a
04:04fan perspective.
04:05And, oh, no, what if the boos come in week three?
04:08But you do owe it to the locker room.
04:11Yeah, you owe it to the locker room.
04:12You owe it to the players.
04:13You owe it to all these guys that you don't want to pull the wool over.
04:18Like, the whole thing was supposed to be who believes in who.
04:23And it's not to say that, like, all right, Shedorden win the job.
04:27Nobody believes in them.
04:28It just might be right now they might believe in Deshaun Watson more.
04:31But if you pull the plug on that experiment in record time, one and a half weeks or two
04:36weeks, then there's going to be a bunch of guys in that locker room going, what is going
04:41on?
04:41You're exactly right.
04:42It's one thing for Todd to lie to us, to lie to fans, to lie to the media.
04:46It's another thing to lie to the guys in the locker room.
04:48And that's what it'd be.
04:50That if you go through the whole preseason, well, even the offseason, right?
04:55They went through as Deshaun was number one.
04:58Shedore was gaining ground.
04:59And he even, Todd even admitted last week that they basically started offseason last
05:04year of, it was Deshaun and Shedore, you know, you get to be the backup, but you're
05:11pretty far away.
05:12And Shedore made a lot of ground up in that time, right?
05:15Like, and he was impressed by the things that he did.
05:17But obviously he wasn't impressed enough to just start him at the beginning of this season.
05:22That's true.
05:23I just, I mean, you even said it, Ken, you said they're a five-win football team this
05:27year, right?
05:28You said that.
05:28And you said it's because Deshaun struggled against the third-team Bills, right?
05:32I agree.
05:33I agree with you all that.
05:34I actually think it's probably a four-win team, but even better for those who will just
05:39want to go after quarterback next year.
05:40With all that said, yes, Deshaun struggled against the third team.
05:44And then Deshaun imploded in the post-game press conference.
05:46And through all of that, they said, we don't care.
05:49We're starting him week one.
05:51When the whole, the whole world said, do not start Deshaun Watson.
05:55The people that were on Deshaun over Shedore flipped at that point and said, well, it's
06:00probably time to start, start Shedore.
06:02Yeah, but I remember this room feeling differently, and I remember this room saying, hey, it's
06:11going to be tough, but we all thought that he was still going to start Deshaun that Monday
06:16before the show, before they made the announcement, because they made it right as the show ended.
06:19Because it was his gut feeling.
06:20Yes.
06:21He was going to stick to his gut.
06:22That's why, that only, I feel like, backs me up in my thing of saying that he's...
06:27You bring up a hell of a point.
06:28No, it's a good point.
06:29Listen, it's a good point.
06:30Listen, I can't, I'm not fighting you.
06:32I think I'm fighting Todd, because what you're saying makes sense with what a football coach
06:37would do, all right?
06:38I just, I don't think he should be so inflexible.
06:41So I'm looking at it from a big picture standpoint.
06:44All right, I'm two weeks into the season.
06:46My offense hasn't budged.
06:48My starting quarterback is bad.
06:50I'll leave it there.
06:52I don't need to say he's a pariah to the fans, because Todd doesn't care about that.
06:55If he cared that much, he would have just started Shedore, all right?
06:58So I got to leave that part out, and let's leave that part out, all right?
07:02So now I have my quarterback in, who's gone two weeks.
07:05He's done terribly.
07:07Now I have to wonder whether or not my young backup is ready to go.
07:11If he's not ready to go, then yeah, I'm going to start in week three.
07:14All right, I'm going to start Deshaun Watson week three.
07:17That's all well and good.
07:18I just have no faith he's going to be able to do it, and I don't want him to be
07:20so inflexible
07:22that, well, I made my decision, I'm just going to go with it.
07:25Even though that's definitely a way that a lot of head coaches think.
07:29It's the only reason that Deshaun's starting now is because I made the feelings with my gut,
07:34and I'm going to go with it.
07:35What do you think about this?
07:38I want to know what the fans think, 2-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-92.
07:41And I think that it's just, it's hard for me to fathom him playing well.
07:47Now, I don't think Shador would have necessarily played all that well either in the first few
07:53games, and you know, this whole debate about going from what order of these quarterbacks,
07:59and I know people have gotten mad at the notion that it's easier, this talking point,
08:05that it's easier to go from Deshaun Watson to Shador than vice versa, but I do think it is.
08:10I do think it is.
08:11Now, I've also heard over the last, like, week and a half that you can't go to Deshaun Watson
08:17after you start Shador.
08:18That I don't really understand.
08:19Why couldn't you?
08:21Like, what happens?
08:22I agree with you there.
08:22What really bad thing happens that wasn't already happening?
08:26If you go with Watson after Shador?
08:28Yeah, if you started Shador for, he'd probably get longer leash, maybe he'd get six games.
08:32Because it feels like, even though you can go back, it just feels like you can't.
08:37You can't always go back.
08:39There's no rule that says you can't go back to a quarterback.
08:43It just feels we've already been through it before.
08:46And if there is a feeling, this is where, yeah, the outsiders start to creep in.
08:51Their opinions, the fans' opinions start to creep in.
08:53Is that you start to think, all right, he just doesn't have it.
08:57Because the guy backing him up, we just think so badly of.
09:00That there's no way that he's so bad, if they're going to him, that he just must be terrible.
09:07And this has all been a great big waste of breath.
09:09Which very well it could end up being.
09:10But there's still, now that you have Deshaun Watson there.
09:13And we got two clips of two former NFLers who were going to play at 723 that backed them up
09:17on this.
09:18There is a feeling of anticipation of something better.
09:21Now that's for the fans, but there's also a thought of, hey, I can get this guy ready in this
09:25new offense.
09:26And he'll be more prepared to take the field when we have to break the glass.
09:30Because Ryan Fitzpatrick, I think he shocked everybody with what he said on Thursday night.
09:34Where he's like, this isn't going to work.
09:36And then we'll get to Shador Sanders.
09:37Like, he was just so a matter of fact.
09:39I think it blew Kirk Herbstreit's mind to actually hear him say that.
09:42Like, just so a matter of factly.
09:44He also didn't say, Shador's going to work.
09:46He just said, definitely, Deshaun's not going to work.
09:48Yeah.
09:48216-474-0092.
09:50Should he be guaranteed the first month?
09:52Or is there any guarantees that he should be coming in?
09:55Because it could get a lot harder for Todd Munkin if Deshaun Watson goes out there.
09:59And I'm not going to use the pariah thing, even though that's the way a lot of fans feel.
10:02We talk to a lot of fans.
10:04But if he goes out there and Deshaun Watson struggles in these first couple of weeks,
10:07you're 0-2 getting ready to come back home to Cleveland.
10:09Or even at 1-1.
10:11And say they won one of these games out of spite of the quarterback,
10:14which has happened in Cleveland before.
10:16Could there be that conversation?
10:18Could it get even worse for Todd Munkin?
