00:00Hello, welcome to the CV's Flight Channel.
00:30But 20-25, and I paid a lot of attention to how he looked right after that first moto.
00:36He wasn't tired.
00:37He was completely unbothered by that 35-minute effort.
00:40A great starter, but so is the 96 of Hunter Lawrence.
00:43When I asked him yesterday about the emotions of losing that Supercross title,
00:48he says he's gotten past that.
00:50It was actually the physical side.
00:51He had never raced the full seven.
00:52This momentum going in the right direction because this year has been tough.
00:56Let's see if the number four on the Kawasaki can bounce back this next moto.
01:00Well, Mikkel Harup, he really started the 450 pro motocross season for triumph
01:04in the best way possible, grabbing a hole shot.
01:06And I'm sure a lot of people are like, wait, who was that 31?
01:09Well, yes, that is Dane Mikkel Harup,
01:12and he's really trying to make a dent in this pro motocross championship.
01:16And I tell you what, he keeps getting starts like that.
01:18He will find himself in the top 10 more often than not.
01:22Yeah, that was impressive.
01:23He has been logging a lot of laps in training, said he couldn't wait to go racing.
01:27He did very well on that first moto.
01:30The flat racing 30-second board is up.
01:32We started the day saying this is probably the most anticipated opener ever
01:36in this pro motocross championship,
01:39and there's still half of it left to run.
01:42450 moto two.
01:44Hunter Lawrence, Jorge Prado, Justin Cooper, top three in moto one.
01:49Will it change for the second moto?
01:51There's a lot of riders capable of doing it.
01:53So here we go.
01:55It's time to go racing.
02:04I think Hunter's got it this time.
02:07And Prado as well.
02:08No changes.
02:09Plessinger third.
02:11And that's Webb, I think, right there.
02:13Yeah, Cooper Webb.
02:14Great start.
02:15But Jorge Prado, exactly where he wanted to be.
02:18If I'm him, I think I'm going to attack Hunter Lawrence early in his race.
02:22As he tries to go up the inside, he understands.
02:25He knows the playbook with these guys.
02:27I think Jorge's got to be really aggressive with his opening moto, his second moto.
02:31Here it is around the outside.
02:33Prado looking for running room.
02:35All over Hunter.
02:36He goes from outside to inside.
02:37Hunter cuts it off.
02:39Great ride by Hunter.
02:40He's used to this.
02:41We saw with Ken Rockson how good he was at Supercross.
02:44Hunter had a few times.
02:45Got it again, though.
02:47And Prado shoots to the lead.
02:49Put the power down.
02:50You can see the urgency of Jorge.
02:53He probably sat behind Hunter thinking that he might be able to get him later in the moto.
02:57And I agree with JT.
02:58He definitely saved something.
03:00What he saved was a pass that was waiting to happen this second moto.
03:03Great start.
03:03And you can see, James, he is trying to sprint now.
03:06Yeah, he wants to be out front.
03:08I mean, is this one of the first times that we've seen him out front to moto cross?
03:13If not, at least like this, it has been.
03:15Yeah, but it's got to feel like old habit because back in Europe where he won multiple titles,
03:18this is where he did his best work from the front.
03:21And that was the playbook, and he executed it perfectly.
03:24Yes, he did.
03:25You can tell they put down some water on the track.
03:28Some sections a little bit more.
03:29Another, that lat section was really slippery.
03:31So Hunter Lawrence is the smart rider.
03:33He's very patient.
03:34He knows it's a long race.
03:36See how this company lapsed play out.
03:38Probably regroup.
03:39And then he knows he's got to battle with the number 26.
03:42Third is Plessinger, Hampshire, then Webb.
03:46Ferrandez battling sixth and sixth.
03:49Deegan is in tenth.
03:51Jet Lawrence is eighth.
03:52So they're near each other again, but not the starts they wanted.
03:55Yeah, I think everybody, especially if you're, you know, hey, Deegan, you're probably more aggressive trying to get up,
04:01especially if you're close to that Jet Lawrence.
04:03You don't want him to get comfortable.
04:04You saw what happened that first moto, but it looks like Ferrandez moved up.
04:09I don't know if Cooper Webb went down and made a few mistakes, but he definitely slipped down.
04:13Battle.
04:14Look at this battle.
04:15I'm going to say that's going from Hampshire in fourth to Harrah back in tenth.
04:20They're all wheel to wheel right now.
04:21It looks like Cooper Webb made the pass, I mean, got passed by his teammate.
04:26So just like that first moto, hey, Deegan, Jet Lawrence in the pack, battling for eighth and ninth.
04:31I believe same position.
04:33Yeah.
04:33A little earlier and closer to the lead.
04:37And Hunter Lawrence doing all he can to keep Prado in sight.
04:40He knows what Prado wants to do.
04:42He's not going to let him break him, and he's going right back after him.
04:45Look at this.
04:48Yeah, it goes outside.
04:49Let's see if he can slingshot around there.
04:52And one of the narratives with Jorge during Supercrosses, he's very tough to pass.
04:57We're going to find that firsthand.
04:58The race craft, I think it's more race craft than anything, but he's in a position where he's leading and
05:03dictating the pace.
05:04Let's see what he does as he's going to get passed back in the same spot.
05:08How about that same area on the track?
05:11Hunter gets him back.
05:12Prado up the inside, down and up.
05:14Hunter Lawrence back in the lead, JT.
05:17Well, if Jorge Prado's defensive riding was a football team, it'd be the 85 Bears.
05:21Like, that's what he's bringing to the table.
05:23And as soon as I say that, Hunter made a move on him.
05:26But I'm just telling you, there are some things that are very difficult in life, and then there's passing Jorge
05:30Prado.
05:30But Hunter Lawrence just did just that.
05:33Yeah.
05:33Now Hunter's turn to try to get away.
05:34Go ahead, Jim.
05:34Well, Jorge's 85, and Hunter's the greatest show on turf.
05:402001 Rams, or Kurt Warner Rams right there.
05:43We got offense versus defense here.
05:45Offense winning it at the moment.
05:47Now let's see if Hunter can pull away.
05:49Bottom box, JT. Lawrence going out there.
05:51Sexton.
05:53I mean, normally when you're talking about Sexton and JT. Lawrence, that's the battle for the moto win.
05:57That's how deep the field is this year.
05:59It's fifth and sixth.
06:00Yeah, crazy.
06:01Go back a year from now.
06:02Your defending champion was Chase Sexton.
06:04We thought he would be the only one that might be able to beat JT. Lawrence after battling for seasons.
06:10And now they're battling it back in the pack.
06:12But it shows you how deep it is.
06:13But to me, JT. Lawrence looks a little bit more aggressive in the opening few laps this moto than he
06:19did that second one.
06:22And I don't know if he made a mistake, Will.
06:25I was talking to Lars Lindstrom, team manager, Honda HRC there, James, just to see if they had made any
06:30adjustments for JT.
06:31You heard me in the ground, the burn there, talking about the adjustment they made on the clutch for the
06:36start.
06:37But as far as the bike goes, there was some suspension changes made.
06:40He said it was a little bit soft in that first moto, and he did get arm popped during that.
06:44So they're just obviously trying to avoid that, avoid that sort of fighting the bike and sitting back on it
06:50there,
06:50just to try and give him a little bit more comfort and, you know,
06:53give him that ability to be able to kind of push through and late into the moto.
06:56That actually makes sense.
06:58And it's expected when you think about a router who hasn't raced all year,
07:02becoming soft as he almost loops out right there.
07:04He hasn't been pushing his pace at all at home.
07:07So it's not surprising he would come to a race, pick up the pace, and his bike beat too soft.
07:12Looks a lot better this second moto.
07:15But then you got the riding partners coming off injury.
07:21RJ and then the cowboy, Aaron Plessinger.
07:24And they're still right behind Jorge.
07:25So yeah, they're hanging in there, actually.
07:28Plessinger had a good start.
07:29And as he's dealing with his buddy, Hampshire, they've got the 26 in sight.
07:34And here's RJ doing what RJ does, just fighting it with everything he's got.
07:38Yeah, if anybody knows what RJ does, you know he's always going to be there.
07:43But then you got this battle of Chase Sexton and Jet Lawrence coming up on these guys.
07:49So I don't know about you, Jason, but I just sense Chase looks a little bit better this moto,
07:53but also Jet as well.
07:55And they're close to second place right there.
07:57You know, one of the big questions I had this morning, just running through my mind,
08:00thinking about this, is where would the Plessinger-Hepshire types fit it?
08:05Oh, no!
08:06And down goes Sexton.
08:08Yeah, tough break right there.
08:09I mean, they put some water down.
08:11But it's a small crash.
08:14But for Chase, I just know for him, after that first moto, top three,
08:17it's a big crash just mentally for him.
08:20He just seems like he can't get the ball rolling, especially this year.
08:25Hopefully he gets back up and keeps charging forward.
08:27I think he'd have Perandis and Deegan behind him when he picked it up,
08:30see if he can get back up to pace.
08:33And actually, that would move Jet Lawrence to third overall.
08:36But it's very early right now.
08:39Plessinger and Hepshire are still battling, and there's Jet.
08:43Jet can finish on the podium today if things stay the same,
08:46and it would be his worst finish ever here at this race.
08:50So podium is terrible.
08:52Terrible.
08:53Yeah.
08:54But back to what I was saying, with this field being so deep,
08:57we talk about all the riders that have won titles,
08:59either the 250 or 450 class outdoors.
09:03Plessinger does have one.
09:04But I was wondering, where would the likes of these two fit right in?
09:08And honestly, pretty darn well right now.
09:10Yeah.
09:11I mean, both these guys got talent.
09:12You know, that question, I would be more concerned about Aaron,
09:15how healthy he is, and just with the thing.
09:18With RJ, you know, you're going to get 100% no matter what it is.
09:21So if he's in 10, he's in 10, he's leading.
09:23He's going to ride the same.
09:24So for him, he would be where he's at.
09:27Aaron would be more the wild card there.
09:28But great to see him there, especially coming off an injury.
09:31And they're going to have their hands full with the 38.
09:34I think all these guys are going to end up closing up.
09:36Of course, ended his moto.
09:39Deegan battling Miranda.
09:40This is the pro motocross debut for that bike.
09:42The Tati Desmo surely designs it Red Bull Racing.
09:46But Deegan's got to go.
09:48And he makes the move.
09:49Yeah.
09:50No.
09:52Miranda's trying to get him back.
09:56But Hayden's got it done.
09:57Yeah, he got the power down.
09:59But Ben John said earlier how when Hayden comes up and past these guys,
10:03like he's just going to get the best version of them like a champion.
10:06You can see how aggressive Dylan.
10:08Dylan didn't want that pass to happen.
10:10And they all want to beat him.
10:11I mean, at the end of the day, you know where this guy is going towards the future.
10:15And there's a lot on the line for Dylan and the Ducati.
10:20That's the name to hold him back there.
10:22Hey, we've heard Malcolm Stewart, your brother, out of this photo.
10:24Not sure what happened.
10:25Actually just rode past our booth here on the motorcycle, at least under his own power.
10:30That's a bummer there for the 27.
10:34A lot of battling to watch as Jett continues to close on Hampshire and Blesinger.
10:39Yeah, I'll find out what's going on with Malcolm.
10:41Big J's on my flight tonight, so he'll tell me all about it.
10:44Yeah, Jett lost a little bit of time that last laugh, but he must have made a mistake
10:48because he clearly was able to close in on RJ and hit him with the jet effect right there.
10:53RJ made a mistake.
10:55It's good to see the number one riding like this.
10:57I can tell you, looks a lot better than he did that first moto,
11:00but as we talked about, he's been getting better all day long, JT.
11:03He has been getting better, but I wonder what percentage you would put on Jet right now.
11:07I'm going to say 85% to 90% of full Jet Lawrence power right now.
11:12He just, he's not doing the magical type jet maneuvers on the racetrack.
11:16I think he just looks a little tentative, and that could be lack of riding.
11:20That could be protecting his foot.
11:21That could just be, hey, I can't make a big mistake and hurt myself here,
11:24but I'd like to know your perspective on that, James.
11:26And he just, yes, he looks fine, but Jet Lawrence is usually far from fine.
11:31He usually looks like one of the greatest riders I've ever seen.
11:33Yeah, well, he still looks like that to me, and I think what it is is that, yeah,
11:38he might be a little bit faster if he was 100%, you know, attacking things,
11:42but what it is is that how easy he usually makes it look, you know,
11:45where he's able to repeat these laps over and over,
11:48and all day we've just seen it.
11:50It looks hard for him to repeat.
11:52To me, the second moto and the end of that first moto,
11:54he's starting to look to where he can ride this pace,
11:56and obviously he's fast enough to close in on these guys.
11:59So I think the rust is coming from, not necessarily he's lacking speed,
12:02but lacking that the Jet Lawrence, I can do this in my sleep kind of, you know,
12:09you know, action that he's going to have to grow with and keep working on,
12:13but he looks good to me.
12:15Certainly looked good there.
12:17He closes in on Plessinger.
12:19Nice return, running third for AP, who had a hip injury in Supercross,
12:24just a rough Supercross campaign for AP altogether.
12:28I talked to him yesterday, he said, yeah, I got a few motos under my belt.
12:32I don't think he's coming here in a full 100% fitness,
12:36but he's riding well, at least at the moment.
12:39That's the good news.
12:40The bad news is there's still 19 minutes and two laps to go.
12:43Yeah, and, you know, APs, like, I've seen this scene before,
12:46you know, Jet Lawrence, that's, yeah, lets him go.
12:50So sometimes as a rider, especially in AP position,
12:52he doesn't want to hold him back,
12:53and he kind of knows he's not 100%.
12:55This guy's going, so it makes that pass a little easier
12:59than maybe some other times,
13:00but Jet's moving towards the front,
13:02and the next person is Jorge Prada.
13:05About five seconds in front of him.
13:06I don't know if he has anything for his older brother.
13:09Hunter Lawrence looks great, but still, great ride by him.
13:13Yeah, last time around, Prado's laptop was actually a little quicker
13:16than Jet Lawrence.
13:17We'll see if it changes now that he's not in a battle.
13:20And here's Jet talking about just being happy,
13:22being back on the motorcycle.
13:26Yeah, I can't wait.
13:28I've been telling my team all I want to do
13:30is just get on the bike, just get me on the bike.
13:32That's all I want to do.
13:33Like, you know, we always have all the media stuff and all that.
13:35I'm just like, I couldn't care less about that.
13:38I just want to be in my happy place on my dirt bike, you know.
13:41That's where I have my most fun.
13:43I've had a lot of fun here, obviously, at Parler as well.
13:46So I just can't wait to go out there and get the, you know,
13:49that adrenaline rushing again, you know,
13:51because you just don't get the same feeling when you're practicing
13:53to when you're racing.
13:55So I'm just, I'm just excited, man.
13:58I'm like a little kid just really wanting to go race on the weekends
14:01as an amateur and stuff like that.
14:03So I'm excited to get back out there and just race
14:05and have those first race, like, jitters again and stuff like that.
14:10And I just honestly just can't wait.
14:13Jet, they're excited to go racing.
14:15But as far as actually being on his motorcycle,
14:18it was about nine weeks kind of post sort of getting back on it to this point.
14:23And I think a lot of people, including myself,
14:25thought that meant a lot of outdoor testing.
14:28And we know that translates not just for Jet,
14:30but over to Hunter's bike as well because their setups are so similar.
14:34But checking in with crew chief Grant Hutchinson today,
14:37he said, no, that wasn't the case because they had to wait so long
14:40for Jet to sort of get back to pace after the injury
14:43that really that testing time didn't exist.
14:46So he said, what we're looking at for both the guys really
14:48is mostly post Salt Lake City, which was just a few weeks back.
14:53So incredible really to think that they're in this comfort point
14:57that they are right now with the motorbike,
14:59both Hunter running up front there and Jet in third,
15:02with really just a few weeks prep.
15:03And he reflected back to sort of this time last year and he said,
15:06to look back where we were then at the season opener
15:09and how far we've come and where we are now with the motorcycling,
15:12except that's just a night and day comparison.
15:14Yeah, it is.
15:16And again, as I said earlier, when we're talking to JT,
15:19so if you watch Jet Lawrence here and if you watch him in his past,
15:22what he does really good, he's very patient.
15:25He's very light on the motorcycle.
15:26And what I noticed today is that he's sitting down
15:29a little bit more than normal, a lot of these sections.
15:32And where he's sitting down is anywhere where it's a lot of force
15:35on his lower body.
15:37And you can tell, like, he's on the back.
15:38He's overjumping things, which tells me when he overjumps it,
15:42you can see his body collapse.
15:44So he's kind of protecting that foot.
15:46Again, this guy is dealing with a life, career injury.
15:52So no mistake, I mean, not really harping on him,
15:55but a lot of this is coming down for him just rust
15:57and learning how to be the new version of Jet Lawrence
16:00with this injury until he gets a go, gets it back 100%.
16:05The broken talus in his foot, yeah, that's expected to take,
16:10they were thinking a year.
16:11They knew they could take time off of it
16:13with all the rehab technology that they do have.
16:16But this is a pretty tough sport.
16:18It hurts every time you land one of these obstacles to deal with.
16:21When I heard him say yesterday that it hurts when he's riding,
16:25you know, with his toes, the ball, the foot, and the foot peg,
16:27and he lands and jumps.
16:28And I'm thinking, well, he's riding like that
16:30all the way around the racetrack.
16:31That's a lot.
16:33Yeah, it is.
16:34And if you, again, you watch him off that tabletop,
16:36you can see him just squatting a little bit.
16:39Some of these areas were last year.
16:40I think he'd be standing up.
16:42And a lot of that's just from not riding.
16:43The lower body's got to build it.
16:45But if you watch his body language, he's gotten better all day.
16:48But any time he gets in, he's really a lot of G-forces on his body.
16:53You can see him kind of moving his body around and absorb that.
16:56And that, to me, it's just going to take a little bit of time.
16:58But this is the worst he's going to be.
17:00And he's in third place.
17:01Then these guys are going to be in for a long summer.
17:04Maybe not him.
17:05Yeah, exactly.
17:07Got a long way to go to get to Hunter, who's 10 seconds up the road.
17:10Deegan.
17:12Makes work of R.J. Hampshire.
17:14He's still digging.
17:15Got a lap or two ago.
17:16The entire pace picked up.
17:17Everyone jumped into the two 18s.
17:21Deegan's still going for it.
17:22Fifth.
17:23Now, fifth in Moto1.
17:25Yeah, I think it's, again, good ride for Hayden.
17:28And what he's going to end up doing is learning how this 450 works out,
17:33you know, during the second motos.
17:35Because it's one thing, you can have all this talent,
17:37but just the bike and being at this level,
17:39Hayden's got to learn how to work on that.
17:41His whole team.
17:42So he'll get better with the motorcycle as well.
17:44And for the spotlight here,
17:46Kyle Webster on the Quad Lock Honda team,
17:48filling in for the injured Joey Sabacci.
17:51Multi-time champ of racing down in Australia.
17:54Going to give him the Rocky Mountain ATV
17:55Provincial Profile hookup here.
17:58Good to see Kyle races a couple of races in America a year
18:02because he's been a big part of the Australian team,
18:04along with the Lawrence's at the Motocross of Nations.
18:08Talked to him yesterday.
18:09He admitted it's going to be tough against his field,
18:12but he's riding well right now in 13th.
18:15So hovering around that top 10.
18:17Yeah, he's riding really good.
18:19You talk about how difficult this racetrack is.
18:21When he's going down that hill and that drone shot,
18:23you can see his bike swapping back and forth.
18:26and us normal folks,
18:28you just want to, you would think,
18:30slow down and he can't.
18:31So you have to almost pick up speed to bring that out.
18:33And it's the opposite of what your body
18:35or your mind tells you to do.
18:36But these guys are always dealing with these challenges.
18:40Another challenge is this racetrack.
18:43Yes, Deegan.
18:44That's the challenge toward Plessing or now.
18:46This would be for fourth.
18:50Sexton still back there in seventh.
18:51Justin Cooper, great in Moto 1 with third.
18:55is back in eighth right now.
18:57So we're looking at a Lawrence Prado-Lawrence
19:00overall podium today.
19:02Deegan would be fifth behind Cooper,
19:04but making some moves right now.
19:07Yeah, I think Aaron,
19:09Hayden's got to try to get around him if he does.
19:11In the same place he made that pass on Dillon
19:13because the number four Kawasaki, Chase Sexton,
19:16is coming back up.
19:17He can see those guys.
19:19Aaron's not so fast, young kid.
19:22Coming back.
19:23But I think Hayden should have the momentum
19:25and that inside line is a little bit slower
19:27going in that corner.
19:28So he's got him clear.
19:30I'll put Deegan into fourth in the Moto
19:34and now would jump him to fourth overall
19:37ahead of Justin Cooper.
19:40Halfway through the Moto,
19:41reminder to stock up a monster energy
19:43at Stater Brothers.
19:47Yeah, Jett's got about six, seven seconds
19:51in front of Hayden.
19:53Hayden takes a peek.
19:53He can see him,
19:54but it might be hard to run that number one down.
19:59Never count this dude out, though.
20:00Oh, you know he'd like to.
20:02Yeah.
20:03And Prado wasn't able to cover Hunter Lawrence in this one,
20:06but Jett has not really made up any time on him
20:09when he got to third.
20:11So Prado, as expected, a player today.
20:14And, you know, he's thinking he's going to be a player
20:16in it all year.
20:18Yeah, really impressed with, you know, all these guys,
20:21but even Hunter Lawrence just running these two 18s consistently.
20:25Fastest guy on the racetrack
20:28holding all these guys at bay.
20:30They've got R.J. battling with Plessinger again.
20:32They've been battling all day,
20:33and Sexton is back,
20:36closing the gap.
20:38And R.J., quick move.
20:40Yeah, good move by R.J.
20:42You can tell Aaron being off pretty much most of this year,
20:45it seems like, definitely with a lot of injuries,
20:47starting to stand up, laboring a little bit.
20:49Easy to happen.
20:50First motor of the year.
20:51Coming off injuries, tough for him.
20:53Chase is going to have to try to make this pass
20:55really quickly as he does at the inside.
20:59All right, yeah, it's coming unraveled a bit.
21:01Almost understandable for Plessinger.
21:04Not too much riding coming into the opener
21:06of Pro Motocross.
21:08Sexton trying to salvage something.
21:10Really hard to rate the day for Sexton
21:13because of those two crashes.
21:15Who knows, he could have been in podium position.
21:17Yeah, but I think Chase can kind of salvage the day
21:20if he's able to make the pass on R.J.
21:23It's not going to be where he wants to be at,
21:25but he's getting a lot of info on the motorcycle.
21:27Give him a direction.
21:28Are we close?
21:29And he looks like he's aggressive,
21:31but every time he's been in that spot,
21:32he's kind of gone down.
21:33So is that him or maybe the motorcycle?
21:35But I love to see the number four moving forward.
21:39It's very important.
21:39And Deacon's only a few seconds up the track.
21:41Oh, that could be a spicy one.
21:43Still 10 minutes and two laps to go
21:45as Sexton makes that move on Hampshire.
21:50Now let's flash you back to Moto1
21:52while we have a moment here.
21:53The one rider we expected to be in this battle
21:55that is not is the legend Eli Tomac,
21:57the four-time champ.
21:58This is the first lap of the year,
22:00left side of the screen.
22:01Yeah, just a racing incident.
22:03And the last time Eli was on the racetrack
22:05in Salt Lake City,
22:06something similar kind of happened to that.
22:08So a tough break for him,
22:10but more on Eli.
22:11Let's go down the wheel.
22:13Thank you, James.
22:15Well, he did leave the facility here
22:17and he went for further evaluation
22:18and it was the neck area that they were looking at.
22:21But X-ray showed that there are no broken bones,
22:25which is obviously very good news.
22:26But there is a neck strain
22:27and they will be taking a further look at that this week.
22:31So we'll go for further evaluation this week.
22:35Thank you, Bill.
22:35Yeah, that's the scary part, right?
22:37This is now three times have you seen Tomac go down.
22:40He crashed in the whoops
22:41at the qualifying at Cleveland Supercross.
22:43Then the crash early in the night
22:45at Salt Lake City.
22:46Now this.
22:47So they're starting to stack up there.
22:49Certainly hope for the best.
22:51Yeah.
22:52Yeah, that's tough.
22:53And as you get older,
22:55it's the healing, the recovery part
22:56that maybe takes a little bit longer
22:57to compare it to where you're young.
22:59But I like when we showed that camera,
23:01you notice Hunter Lawrence,
23:02his mechanic was smiling out there.
23:04And he should be.
23:05His rider looked great today.
23:07Making it look just like he did in Supercross.
23:09Pretty easy.
23:10Still got, you know,
23:11almost nine minutes left plus two laps.
23:13So far, man, the 96.
23:15Strong performance.
23:18I don't know.
23:19For some reason,
23:20he's always a little undervalued.
23:21But I think everybody's just come to realize
23:23this is who Hunter Lawrence is.
23:25Indoors, outdoors,
23:27hybrid tracks,
23:28motocross the nations.
23:30It's been a long time
23:31since this guy has not been up front
23:33on any type of track.
23:35Yeah, and I think you can
23:37look at that because of Jet Lawrence.
23:39I think so.
23:40You know, I mean, it's hard.
23:41You look at Hunter Lawrence,
23:43I mean, without his brother there,
23:44he's got, what, three, four championships,
23:46especially, you know, last couple years.
23:49But it's hard to be in the shadow
23:51of your younger brother.
23:52But because he was in the shadow,
23:54man, to be out here fighting
23:56and never give up
23:57and to be supportive of your brother,
24:00keep that family relationship
24:01and continue being better yourself,
24:04this is what you're seeing.
24:06And I'll go back and say what I said earlier.
24:08No one has raised this version of Hunter Lawrence,
24:11not even Jet Lawrence.
24:12And if this is the version of Hunter Lawrence,
24:15I don't know, even healthy.
24:17This guy's going to be hard to beat right now
24:19because he's only getting better.
24:21and you can see it starting
24:22from Supercross to here.
24:23Yep, and it was getting much closer
24:25in Pro Motocross last year between them
24:27than it was the year before
24:28when Hunter was a 450 rookie.
24:30And then we saw the steps he took indoors.
24:32He just keeps improving
24:33and he's looking to go 1-1 today.
24:36I wouldn't quite say dominant fashion
24:38because Prado's been close,
24:39but he did top the qualifying sessions as well.
24:42Will, it's about as close as he can come
24:45to a perfect day.
24:46It is indeed.
24:47And rookie seasons,
24:48you just talked about it there,
24:49and Jason, they're very telling, right?
24:52When we look back at Jet's rookie season
24:54and it was clear,
24:56that one was clear.
24:57First, the fastest qualifying goes 1-1.
24:59When we look at that rookie season
25:01that you talked about in Hunter there
25:02back in 2024,
25:04he was third fastest qualifier
25:06and went 2-3 for second.
25:09And that was obviously against his brother.
25:11So really, we don't have to look very far
25:13to find why Hunter Lawrence is as good as he is.
25:18We just look at the stats,
25:19but like you said,
25:20it's kind of his brother
25:21and his incredible performances
25:22sometimes confuse that a little bit.
25:25But it's right there,
25:26and it has been since 2024
25:27when he was a rookie, JT.
25:30Yes, Will,
25:31and for more on that Hunter Lawrence story,
25:33Johnny, I want to ask you about
25:34the days following that Salt Lake City round.
25:37and I'm sure it was really hard
25:39to digest for Hunter,
25:41but what went on
25:42in the first couple of weeks
25:43that we were trying to just get Hunter back to zero,
25:46back mentally back to normal
25:47before he can even start thinking
25:49about coming and winning here at Fox Raceway.
25:52Yeah, that's a good way to put it.
25:54I mean, definitely, you know,
25:56we were so close,
25:56but then Kenny was a little bit better at the end.
26:00And yeah, like it takes a while
26:02to get over that for sure.
26:03I mean, we don't sit there
26:05and dwell on it for a long time,
26:06but Hunter's pretty tough on himself.
26:09I'm a lot like that also.
26:11So, you know,
26:12I don't have to scold him
26:13and say anything to him.
26:14Just kind of that downtime,
26:1648 hours or so.
26:18And I think he waited about three days
26:20to get on his outdoor bike,
26:22but it was pretty much already ready for him
26:24because Jed has done a lot of the work for him outdoors.
26:27Great job,
26:28and this is a heck of a way to bounce back.
26:30Okay.
26:31Yeah, I had a chance to talk to Johnny
26:34and even those guys,
26:35and when you think having,
26:36I think what helped Hunter
26:37is one,
26:38his brother coming back from injury,
26:40even with Hayden coming in,
26:41there was a lot of hype.
26:42So Hunter,
26:44you know,
26:44knew he kind of had to come out here,
26:45but I think there was a lot of pressure
26:47that maybe wasn't on him
26:49because of what Jed was coming back.
26:51There was a lot of talk about him
26:52and Hunter slots underneath that radar,
26:54but even more than that,
26:56I think having that extra week off
26:58between Supercross and Motocross this year,
27:00I think it eliminated to that hangover effect
27:04that we kind of said from the Supercross,
27:06and it gives him time to kind of get over
27:08what he went through,
27:08that heartbreaking Supercross,
27:10and he's back out here.
27:11But again, man,
27:13you said you didn't want to say it,
27:14but I'm going to tell you right here,
27:16this is a beat down.
27:17This is dominant.
27:18This race is,
27:20I know it's only seven seconds,
27:22but it's not even close.
27:23This guy's in a whole different league
27:24of his own right now,
27:26and if he needed to pull it out to 10,
27:27he could do it.
27:29He's on rails today.
27:31And he did go right back after Prado
27:35as soon as Prado got him in this moto.
27:36It did not take him long to regain control,
27:40which maybe does show what he has under the hood
27:42if he needs it.
27:44Yeah.
27:45Yeah, absolutely.
27:46JT.
27:47James, I was just listening to you say that
27:49about the beat down,
27:50and this looks scary easy
27:52for Hunter Orange right now.
27:54I'm just watching, you know,
27:55kind of the way he's going,
27:56like he's riding around,
27:58and I know that sounds a little hyperbolic,
28:00but I'm just telling you,
28:01he is on full cruise control mode,
28:03and if he needed to pull it to 10 or 12 seconds right now,
28:06no problem.
28:06He could do it two laps.
28:08Yeah, no, it is.
28:09And again, if you look at his brother,
28:12and even some of races, Hunter's one,
28:13I mean, it's not like he's out there,
28:15he always wants to pull out to 30 seconds.
28:18This is how they kind of win races.
28:20They kind of keep it close,
28:21but he can turn up the screws really easy,
28:24and like I said,
28:26I've seen this guy get better
28:28throughout the Supercross season
28:29to where there was races that it looked just like this,
28:32and yeah, this race isn't even close.
28:35Jorge's doing a great job,
28:36but he'll watch this and understand
28:37he's got to pick it up to attack that 96.
28:41There's the gap.
28:42Seven seconds now to Prado on the Red Bull KTM.
28:46Jet now has it down to five seconds.
28:49It's been a lot of work,
28:50and for all of it,
28:51he's made up about one,
28:53maybe one and a half seconds
28:55in the last 10, 15 minutes.
28:57So Prado's showing some strength,
28:59enough to hold Jet from,
29:01you can just see him back there,
29:02really getting a hook in him.
29:04Yeah, I think, Jorge,
29:05the same thing kind of happened at first motor
29:07as we take a look at Hayden Deegan.
29:09You know, it's that rabbit.
29:11Hunter Lawrence is gone,
29:12so it's hard for him to chase.
29:14And speaking of chase, yeah,
29:16you know, chase sector,
29:17I think it'd be a win
29:18if he's able to get around Hayden Deegan,
29:19but yeah, Jorge Prado,
29:21it's hard to race four,
29:22and it's easy to see Jet close in,
29:24but maybe still think Jorge
29:26is probably overall better.
29:27If he needed to,
29:28he'll hold this thing on,
29:30but at the end of the day,
29:31still a great ride by him,
29:32all three of these guys, actually.
29:34Yeah, Prado 2.0 here,
29:36much better in year two in America
29:38than last year.
29:39Last year was just around the top five
29:41in this race,
29:42which actually seemed fine,
29:43but it kind of went sideways from there.
29:45Back to this battle,
29:47Chase Sexton digging,
29:49and look,
29:50most of the fire from Deegan
29:53has been aimed squarely at Jet Lawrence,
29:55but I cannot imagine
29:56that any of these proud guys
29:58that have won this title before,
29:59like Chase Sexton,
30:01are fans of the brash talk from the rookies,
30:03so let's see if Sexton could dig deep here.
30:07I'm sure he would be smiling under the helmet
30:09if he could make this happen.
30:10Yeah, trust me,
30:11Chase wants to get to him.
30:12It's whether he's set up,
30:14feel comfortable in the motorcycle
30:15to push that extra little bit,
30:16but, you know,
30:17I don't think it's maybe,
30:19Chase is probably upset
30:20that Deegan wasn't talking about him
30:22because he's like,
30:23man, I just won this championship.
30:24I am the guy,
30:25and it's almost like he's got replaced,
30:27so if he can get close to him,
30:29he's going to want to beat him
30:30for a lot of different reasons,
30:31but, again,
30:32I think it's important for Chase
30:33to just mentally,
30:35if he wins this,
30:36it would be somewhat
30:37of a silver lining in this day
30:39if he can recover after two crashes,
30:41knowing that he possibly
30:42could have been on the podium,
30:43but was able to show that speed,
30:45run down Hayden Deegan,
30:46and, you know,
30:47finish it in at top five.
30:49A lot of work with that motorcycle.
30:50Chase told me yesterday,
30:52a lot better than where they were
30:53even just a few weeks ago
30:55with the outdoor testing.
30:56He made some major changes to the bike,
30:58but he kept cautioning that look.
31:00It feels good at home,
31:01but you'd never know
31:02until you go racing.
31:03I would say, overall,
31:04a positive day speed-wise for him.
31:07It just crashes.
31:07He is not giving up,
31:09and Deegan doesn't want to let him get it.
31:11No, it isn't,
31:12and, you know,
31:13you look at his teammate.
31:14Unfortunately, Garrett,
31:15that first motor,
31:15he got into it with Eli,
31:16but he's actually been riding really good,
31:18and that's when you know
31:20Kawasaki as a team
31:21has made the improvements
31:22because Garrett's looking good today as well.
31:24So does Chase Sexton,
31:25and I know for Chase,
31:26this is like the worst position.
31:28If you can't get around Hayden,
31:30you're that close.
31:31You knew you had enough time
31:32to be able to get him,
31:32and you couldn't.
31:33It's tough.
31:34You might as well just be like,
31:36I either want to pass this dude
31:37or I don't even want to be close
31:38to where it's like that
31:39carrot tango in front of you.
31:42He's a little bit quicker than Deegan.
31:44Last lap around.
31:45It looks like he's closed up
31:46a little more on this one,
31:47but running out of time.
31:49Yeah,
31:50I made a mistake going down the hill,
31:51and to me,
31:52Chase bikes a little soft,
31:54looks like a little off,
31:55because you can tell
31:56when he starts pushing it,
31:57you see he makes those mistakes
31:58as he's going down the hill,
32:00but when he's open flat part
32:01of the racetracks
32:02where he can use his legs,
32:03use his body,
32:04he's able to close in on Hayden,
32:06so hard position to be in
32:07because you have to pick up
32:09that pace to close that gap,
32:10but when you do that,
32:11it's easy to make a mistake,
32:13and Chase is trying.
32:20two lap board is out.
32:22Clock expired for the leader,
32:23Hunter Lawrence.
32:24I wasn't sure if he was going
32:25to beat the clock or not.
32:26He did not,
32:27so it is two to go,
32:29and Sexton's still digging.
32:33I think a lot of people,
32:34James, were worried.
32:35They just,
32:36anyone who wants to see this field
32:37continue to have these contenders in it,
32:39wanted to see a good day from Chase.
32:41Is this enough to see some positive signs?
32:44Yeah, I think so.
32:46I mean, the bike does look better.
32:47I mean, you've got to build somewhere.
32:49He looks more racy to me
32:51than he did at for most of the Supercross.
32:54Usually, if he went down,
32:55he would just kind of fall back in the pack,
32:57so to me, he's having that charge.
33:00I like that.
33:01I know Chase,
33:02and I know he wants to win,
33:03but man,
33:05he's got to find that silver lining.
33:07You know, it's not going to sit well
33:08and paint Deegan riding away from him.
33:10It's not going to sit well,
33:11but at the end of the day,
33:12I think him and Kawasaki
33:13got a lot to build on,
33:14and both those guys are within the top 10.
33:17Going to a place that,
33:18remember what happened a couple years ago,
33:20had one of the greatest rides ever,
33:22coming from 40th to 1st.
33:24We just had some experience
33:25and some good times up in next week's race
33:27and hang down.
33:28Yeah, I think keep in the game,
33:29keep improving that motorcycle.
33:30It would be great to have a summer with Sexton,
33:33doing Sexton-like things.
33:35But the ante is up
33:36with the improvement of Hunter Lawrence.
33:39What Supercross hangover.
33:40what Supercross heartbreak.
33:43Right back at it.
33:46Send a hello out there
33:47to Ken Rockson,
33:47the new Supercross champ.
33:49Maybe we'll get him back later in the summer
33:50for a ProBotocross event,
33:52but you know you'll see him back
33:53for the SMX playoffs.
33:56But Hunter Lawrence has it on lock today.
34:00And what a bounce back it is.
34:02We're not going to talk about that heartbreak.
34:04He says that it still stings,
34:06which is understandable.
34:07But that is not going to be a storyline
34:08going forward.
34:10Yeah, it's not.
34:11And, you know, honestly,
34:12I don't even know if it's a bounce back.
34:14I don't know if Hunter even believes in that
34:16because this is what I saw
34:17all Supercross.
34:18We've been witnessing it.
34:20Like, this is more like Hunter Lawrence
34:22most of the year.
34:23and just his attitude,
34:25his mindset.
34:26I don't think he sees this bounce back.
34:28He's back on track
34:30where he's belonged.
34:31And, again,
34:33it looks very easy to me
34:35watching him smile
34:36on camera.
34:37Candy's camera.
34:39Mad dogging it.
34:41You're right.
34:42We've seen that in the pit board
34:43a couple of times.
34:44The wins for Hunter
34:44won a bunch in Supercross.
34:48This will be the first 1-1
34:49of his 450 career.
34:51He won the overall at Ironman
34:53with a 2-2 in the past.
34:56Somehow it's only the second ever
34:57450 overall win for him.
34:59Although he's been on the podium,
35:00it feels like just about every time
35:02he's lined up in 450 motocross.
35:06Yeah, absolutely.
35:07Just going back to your point real quickly,
35:09as we talked last year
35:10and Hunter Lawrence,
35:10you know,
35:11finishing second to his brother.
35:13If I'm Hunter,
35:14when Jeff was healthy,
35:15I was right there every weekend,
35:17week in and week out,
35:18almost one point for winning
35:19the X-Men's world title.
35:21last couple of years,
35:22I'm better this year.
35:23So I don't think he looks at it
35:25as like,
35:26yeah,
35:26I'm only winning because of Jet.
35:27I was close to beating him
35:29last year when he was fully healthy.
35:31I'm better.
35:32And this is the results you're seeing.
35:34So Hunter Lawrence is on point today.
35:37Yep.
35:37He is going to be one to reckon with
35:39no matter how much
35:39everyone else can improve.
35:41You know they will.
35:43But they got a long way to go
35:44because he's got it up to
35:45over 10 seconds over Prado.
35:47Now Chen Lawrence not giving up,
35:48still closing on Prado
35:50down to the end here.
35:52Prado's been around the block
35:53a time or two.
35:53You got to figure he's got that
35:55under control though.
35:57Yeah,
35:58it was at some point.
35:59Jet was closing
36:00and then Jorge picked up the pace
36:01and stretched it out.
36:02But he lost a lot of time
36:04in the last lap and a half.
36:06So I don't know if that's
36:06lapers that he made a mistake.
36:08I think he had him pretty,
36:10you know,
36:11pretty covered at that point.
36:14Hunter Lawrence,
36:15as I said in Moto 1,
36:16the king of the left brain
36:17thinking,
36:17very analytical,
36:19logical,
36:19unemotional about it
36:20that paid off
36:21in the face of some
36:22heartbreak in Supercross.
36:24He just focuses on process
36:26and lets the results
36:29unfold.
36:29And today that process
36:31was perfect.
36:32Fastest in both
36:32qualifying sessions
36:34wins Moto 1
36:35and with an even bigger lead
36:37here in Moto 2,
36:38he's able to cruise it
36:39on home.
36:43Hunter Lawrence,
36:44he's the man today.
36:46A much hyped opener.
36:47Not enough talk about him,
36:48but he's got all the
36:49headlines now.
36:511-1.
36:52And look at this battle.
36:54Jet Lawrence gets to
36:55the rear wheel
36:56of Jorge Prado
36:57right at the end.
36:59And Chase Sexton
37:00getting to the rear wheel
37:01of Deegan.
37:03These guys want it.
37:04They want it.
37:05You know what I like to see
37:06from Jet Lawrence?
37:07I like that aggressive
37:08tear-off pull.
37:09He was mad.
37:10That means he's feeling
37:11back more like Jet Lawrence.
37:13He don't like to lose.
37:13Good start.
37:15Already not satisfied
37:16with third.
37:16Yep.
37:17I mean, in his case,
37:18I mean, he's struggling
37:19today, right?
37:20Yeah, yeah, by those
37:20standards.
37:22Hunter Lawrence
37:23getting it done.
37:28The Lawrence is still
37:29undefeated here.
37:30Yeah, Lawrence wins.
37:32Not in a row.
37:32Yeah.
37:34Man, throw it down.
37:37Yeah, this is the face
37:38I saw at that press conference
37:39yesterday when talking to him.
37:41That arrogance right there.
37:44Just something about him,
37:45that belief.
37:46He wanted it.
37:48He wants this title.
37:49Well, we've talked
37:50to the team manager,
37:51Lawrence Lindstrom,
37:51many times as he goes
37:53over to congratulate
37:54Prado.
37:55And Lawrence says,
37:56man, he believes even more
37:57sometimes than we believe.
37:59Yeah.
38:00And you usually hear
38:01the opposite with teams,
38:02but this guy has been
38:03down in the dumps before,
38:04never gave up on it.
38:06There's Jet.
38:09Yeah, no, a great ride
38:10by Jet, HRC, Jorge Prado.
38:16I'm just excited
38:17for next weekend.
38:18I know.
38:18I'm excited to see these guys,
38:19but I'm also excited
38:20to see them ladies race
38:21next weekend.
38:22Yeah, WMX is going to be good
38:23and you see Sexton
38:25digging deep there,
38:26Jet digging deep there.
38:27It's just getting started
38:28this summer,
38:29but Hunter Lawrence
38:30fires first.
