00:01Hello, welcome to the CV's Flight Channel.
00:10What you're going to get with Cole Davies in his podium speech.
00:13I like it, he's been simple, kind of black and white this year.
00:17He's kind of got that Terminator thing going on.
00:19It reminds me of a young Cooper Webb.
00:21Absolutely.
00:23450s here in Nashville, top storylines.
00:26Yeah, Tomac, so when Tomac qualifies inside the top five,
00:31basically, we don't have the actual stats up on the screen,
00:34but his qualifying, when he's bad in qualifying, he's been bad in the race.
00:38So for me, it starts right now with Eli.
00:41I need to see that aggression that we saw at the start of the season.
00:44And look, he's got the red plate on his motorcycle,
00:47but he knows the way he's been riding the last few weeks,
00:50if he doesn't turn it around, that's not going to get it done for the championship.
00:53Of course, anything can happen.
00:55We know how special Eli is when he's on.
00:59I like what I'm seeing already here on lap one in the mid-turn.
01:02But Eli Tomac, he's got to get back on that race-winning form we saw to start the year.
01:07And just as you said in the opening, JB,
01:10I was so surprised to look at points last week and only see Cooper Webb 25 back.
01:16He's had a lot of little mistakes, some crashes.
01:18And I just thought he was probably 40 points back, 45 points back,
01:23but only one race back.
01:25And it's motorsports, it's dirt bike racing.
01:27Anything can happen.
01:29And this is normally where Cooper Webb comes alive.
01:32Remember last season going down to the wire with Chase Sexton.
01:35So as you said, I would not count the one out.
01:38And for Justin Cooper, we saw a great ride through the pack last year.
01:42It looks like he's got a little more confidence on the starts.
01:45That's always been one of his strengths.
01:48Been inconsistent so far this year.
01:50But if he can keep getting out of the gate, good.
01:52It's only a matter of time until he wins a main event.
01:56He rode so good last week and one of the best guys in the turns.
02:00And I really like this track for him.
02:02Kind of tight, make up a lot of time in the turns.
02:05He's confident.
02:06You can see it in his riding.
02:07So Justin Cooper, he has a win coming.
02:09Will it be this year?
02:10And this is going to be so fun to watch, this 450 class.
02:15So many questions.
02:17450 Group A qualifying fueled by Kroger.
02:20But this man is not a question mark of how good the 94 is riding right now.
02:24He is on form.
02:26Maybe his best form of his entire career.
02:29Got an awesome feature with him later on in Race Day Live that he goes to the pump track,
02:33hangs out with his two boys and his wife, Courtney,
02:36and kind of take a peek behind the curtain of Ken Rockson's life.
02:39It's going to be fun to check that out.
02:40Yeah, very cool.
02:41And I think Ken has been kind of slept on in the whoops.
02:45The last few weekends he's been, since Birmingham really,
02:48I think he's been the best guy in the whoops in this class.
02:51And so to have a nice set of whoops right out of the corner like that,
02:54he's going to love that and see that as an opportunity for him to make up time.
02:59We know he loves his motorcycle, hasn't changed it much.
03:02He made a change a couple weeks ago to try to get a little more feel with the clutch out
03:07of the gate.
03:07Seems like that has fixed his start.
03:10So I think the key for Ken is just to keep that chip on his shoulder.
03:13Keep the underdog mentality and look at it as, you know, if I win, I win.
03:18If I lose, I lose.
03:19And I think that's one of the reasons why he's really come alive here late in the year.
03:23Two wins in a row the past two weeks.
03:25Ken Rockson has got the victory.
03:27He did go three in a row at Indianapolis, the residency, in 2021.
03:32So Ken's done it before.
03:34Look, he's won basically everything in the sport.
03:37It's this Supercross championship that he has not won.
03:39And look, he's not putting the pressure on himself to get it done.
03:41He's almost accepted, like you said off the open of the show, that, you know what,
03:46kind of just shed that pressure and game on, ride the best he can each and every week.
03:51How about this guy, though, the 96 of Hunter Lawrence?
03:54How about that?
03:54That graphics kid?
03:56That's a good look right there.
03:57That's what I was about to say.
03:58Head to toe.
03:59We should have a segment where we rate these guys' kids.
04:02Because shout out to Alpine Star, SKDA, graphics on the motorcycle.
04:06Looks good.
04:07I thought he had a black background for a second on his numbers,
04:11but it looks like it's just a dark red.
04:13I love the look.
04:14Yeah, that is really cool.
04:15And there's something about that, right?
04:16As a racer, it's kind of under-told how much we care about our look.
04:20And when you show up and you know what color gear you're running and you like it,
04:24like this kit right here, Eli Tomac, looks good.
04:26You even called it out just when he was rolling around the first lap
04:28of how good he is looking not only on the motorcycle but also his kit.
04:32So this is going to be fun to watch the three.
04:34Look, there's no secret that he's been struggling, but what's your thoughts so far?
04:37Oh, I love what I'm seeing.
04:38He's carrying a lot of speed.
04:39He's got that aggression back.
04:41You see, there's no pause in the middle of his turn right now.
04:44He's so fast through the sand section and goes to the top of the board.
04:4952.4.
04:50It's a little early.
04:52I don't know.
04:52What is it?
04:528.30, 8.45 right now?
04:54But is it too early to say that Eli Tomac is back?
04:58Let's wait until the end of the session.
04:59Let's wait until the end of the session.
05:01He's fastest so far.
05:0252.4.
05:04as Hunter Lawrence goes to second, 53.7.
05:07That's the 94.
05:08Ken Rockson on a fast lap.
05:09Malcolm Stewart bumped Hunter Lawrence.
05:11Malcolm's been on a roll lately as well.
05:13Ken goes double-double into that section.
05:15Watch this whoopsy from the 94 right on top.
05:18Wheelies the first three in right there.
05:20Now watch this sand section.
05:21We saw Cole Davies triple in here.
05:23What does Ken Rockson do?
05:24He just doubles, but there's a lot of time to be made right there.
05:27And Ken's one of the best sand riders in the world.
05:28There is.
05:29You see how he stayed low in the berm right there.
05:31Did not bury the bike at all.
05:33Carries his momentum.
05:34Gets his feet back on the pegs quickly.
05:38Shifts up.
05:39Little hesitation there in that turn.
05:41Very slick, as Cole Davies said on the podium.
05:44The hard base.
05:45And Ken Rockson goes to second, 52.7.
05:47Three-tenths off the lead, so it's close between one and two.
05:50How about Dylan Ferranes?
05:52That Red Bull Troy Lee designs Ducati ride.
05:54Just when I say that, Hunter Lawrence goes to the top.
05:57Wow.
05:58The top three in the championship.
05:59Top three in qualifying so far here today.
06:01And I think this is important, a little more important than it has been in the past.
06:06With Hunter Lawrence, Eli Tomac tied in points.
06:08And, of course, Ken Rockson right there.
06:10But kind of an off race for Hunter Lawrence with how good and how fast he's been as of late.
06:16So these guys, both of them kind of want to assert dominance over the other.
06:20And you see them both kind of, they're pushing pretty hard here this morning.
06:25Well, I'm going to say it, I think he's back.
06:27Just from everything we've watched so far, we still have just a little less than six minutes to go.
06:31But Eli Tomac looks to be absolutely on form here today.
06:36Second fastest so far in qualifying.
06:38Let's see what he does through the sand.
06:39There we go.
06:40He goes for it.
06:40Triples in.
06:42Nice.
06:43That is fast right there from the three.
06:44There is nobody better through a sand section than Eli Tomac, too.
06:48You see him, how he kind of sits, waits the outside, sits on the side of the seat, kind of
06:53gets his hips and shoulders, everything turned in the direction he's going.
06:57He's so good at controlling the bike, turning down.
07:0051.5.
07:03We have an Eli Tomac sighting.
07:05Oh, he is back, ladies and gentlemen.
07:07The first one in the 51s.
07:1051.5, nearly a second faster than everyone.
07:13As Malcolm Stewart goes to second with a 52.3.
07:17And here's Ken Rockson goes triple, double, double.
07:20That's going to be interesting.
07:21You mentioned not liking to single into the turn.
07:24Some guys going triple, triple, single.
07:25Other guys going triple, double, double.
07:27And when you single into the turn, as you see Hunter Lawrence make a little mistake right there,
07:31when you single into the turn, you kind of have to wait for the suspension to decompress before you get
07:38on the gas in the middle part of your corner.
07:40So I like personally, like going double, double, get the bike settled so you can prioritize your exit speed going
07:47into the whoops.
07:48You don't want to rush the corner, get in there too fast, which can be tempting because you know the
07:53whoops are coming up,
07:54but you want to prioritize the exit of the turn.
07:57Hunter Lawrence has topped four sessions this season.
08:00And look, Hunter Lawrence doesn't really take much stock out of qualifying.
08:03He does his best work when the lights are the brightest at night.
08:06Points are on the line.
08:07There's that quad over the tabletop, double into the turn.
08:10You want to kind of stay off that berm right there, just catch the back half of it.
08:15Let's see what Kenny does right here in this rhythm lane.
08:17He's going to triple out of the turn.
08:20And let's see if he goes, he goes triple again, triple, single.
08:22So that's the way he's electing to do it here so far.
08:2552.7 for Ken Rockson, fourth here in Q1.
08:29Seeing very, staying very neutral in the whoops.
08:32And it's difficult, but I think right now with the whoops, as he backs it down, slows it down,
08:37he's got a little bit too much traffic in front of him.
08:39For these guys, it's a little counterintuitive.
08:42But most of the time you're supposed to stay neutral in the whoops.
08:45But with the dirt being so hard packed, it's actually okay to get a little further back on the seat.
08:51Maybe it'd be a little lower in the RPMs, just so you're not getting that extra wheel spin.
08:55Malcolm Stewart, look, he's one of the guys we talk about that could get in the mix
08:59in this championship battle up front between Eli Tomac, Hunter Lawrence, and Ken Rockson.
09:04Another guy, Chase Sexton on that Monster Energy, Kawasaki.
09:07He could absolutely be on the podium or get a win on any given Saturday.
09:11We mentioned Cooper Webb, Justin Cooper.
09:12This season has been so epic so far, and I think we're just getting rolling.
09:17Oh, we're just getting started, JB.
09:18There's storylines for days.
09:20I enjoy our content calls with Ricky, James, Lee, Mead, JT, Will, Haley, the rest of the crew.
09:27We're all geeking out on what we've seen on our screen so far this year
09:31as Chase Sexton sets up a fast one.
09:33I like this kid, JB.
09:34What do you think?
09:34Yeah, he looks good as well.
09:36Sexton has topped three sessions this season.
09:38He goes double, triple, and he's going to go over that tabletop right there.
09:42That jump looks so fun.
09:43It does, but you've got to watch.
09:44You see that little shelf right there, kind of the end of that berm as they're sliding.
09:50If you get that back wheel up high in that berm, you're going to see some guys make some mistakes,
09:55potentially high side.
09:56You see Chase going double, double, stays low in the turn.
09:59I like what I'm seeing.
10:01Chase Sexton so far eighth with a 53.1.
10:04And take a look at the left side of your screen.
10:06Tomac on top, 51.
10:07Fox.
10:07Oh!
10:09Tucks the front going into that single.
10:11It looks like he got a little high side.
10:13JB was maybe a little far forward on the bike.
10:17Got the back end a little bit loose.
10:19And on these 450s, so much power off the bottom end.
10:22Just spun a little bit.
10:24Then probably caught some traction.
10:26Let's take another look.
10:27All right.
10:27Chase Sexton comes out of the whoops.
10:28He goes triple.
10:29And he goes triple into that turn.
10:31This 90-degree turn right here.
10:32He just starts to lose his balance in that middle of the turn.
10:35Tucks the front, hits the single, and down he goes.
10:38And I've seen that with Chase.
10:39Since he's been struggling this season, you notice a lot of it in the middle of his turn.
10:45He's normally super balanced on the bike.
10:47Head completely still over the bars.
10:50And right now in the middle of his turn, sometimes he's getting his weight a little too far to the
10:53outside,
10:54a little too far to the inside.
10:55You saw right there.
10:56Just got a little ahead of himself.
10:58Got his weight on the inside.
11:00And with it being as slick as it is right now,
11:03those are things that you just can't afford to do on a track like this.
11:07We're at that man right there on that Red Bull KTM.
11:09Number three of Eli Tomac.
11:11He's so back.
11:11He is absolutely back.
11:1351.5.
11:14But look at his teammate there in third, Jorge Prado, 51.8.
11:18He's another guy that could get in the mix.
11:20And keep your eye, and I told you this yesterday,
11:22as we see Chase Sexton, mechanic Rango there,
11:25making what looks like a little adjustment to the front brake.
11:30Keep your eye on the 46 of Justin Hill as well.
11:33You see him right now in eighth place.
11:35I just watched back the day race from my time here in 2023.
11:39He was up inside the top ten, inside the top five for a lot of the race.
11:43And I think this technical track to see Jorge Prado make a mistake,
11:47I think Justin Hill is going to be really good.
11:49That's a great call right there.
11:50Jorge Prado, third, 51.8.
11:53He has been so impressive all season long.
11:56And I know we've talked about it off air, but this guy in pro motocross here,
12:00in a month's time, this is going to be a lot of fun to watch.
12:05So take a look at your top five.
12:06Tomac, Hunter Lawrence, Jorge Prado, Ken Rocks,
12:08and Malcolm Stewart in the top five.
12:10There's Malcolm, number 27.
12:12Rockstar Energy, Factory Husqvarna ride as the checkered flag comes out.
12:16Malcolm goes 52.3.
12:18Cooper Webb, your three-time and defending Supercross champion.
12:21He's six.
12:21That's a solid start for Coop, Joey Savace, Justin Cooper.
12:25And there's you got Justin Hill.
12:26He's in the top ten.
12:27And Chase Sexton, after that crash, is going to end up tenth.
12:31So Eli Tomac, he is back, ladies and gentlemen.
12:34He's on another fast lap.
12:36Kenny Better is 51.5.
12:38Let's see.
12:39And I love that.
12:39A very shallow rut.
12:41He had to get in there in that left-hand corner before the finish line.
12:44Throws it in there, leans the bike over.
12:46And last.
