00:01Hello, welcome to the CV's Flight Channel.
00:10Point down in the championship, it's between those two, they're both on track next.
00:18And how about that man, Hunter Lawrence needing a bounce back ride today.
00:22Ken Rockson, winner a week ago, one point.
00:24Closer we get to Salt Lake City and the goal of winning this championship
00:29gets more and more realistic, the harder it is to keep your mind focused on the right things.
00:34And Hunter has had an experience in his career that's built this perspective
00:40that allows him to be so even keel, to take the mistakes in stride.
00:44But this undoubtedly would be the biggest bounce back of his career so far
00:50with the most on the line, with the most pressure.
00:52So I'm excited to see how the 96 responds.
00:55And we were talking about it earlier, the momentum that Ken Rockson has right now.
01:00You and I both watched last weekend and thought that may be the best Ken Rockson has ever ridden,
01:06especially in main event number two, Justin Cooper got the win.
01:10But just the fight that Ken has, if somebody passes him, he often passes him right back,
01:15responds in the right way.
01:17And so for Ken, it's the same story for Hunter.
01:21He's got to put last weekend in the rearview mirror, remain focused on what has got him here.
01:27And it's been a long time since he's been in championship contention.
01:31So a little bit of a new position for him.
01:33I'm excited to see his response as well.
01:36And finally, Cooper Webb, 22 points back.
01:41He's still in this thing and we might get some rain later tonight.
01:45You know, it can be very chaotic from a point standpoint for Hunter and Ken Rockson in the
01:50rain.
01:51A lot of things outside of your control.
01:53And Webb, I love the way that he's fought late in this championship.
01:57Look, he hasn't got a win since Houston earlier in the year, but he's riding probably close
02:04to the best he has in his career, just from a pure speed standpoint.
02:08And a lot of guys, especially guys of his caliber, Hall of Famers, three-time Supercross
02:13champ, they could have mailed it in a few weeks ago.
02:17But he stays on it.
02:18He gets the points when he can.
02:20And he's still 22.
02:21It's a long shot with three races to go.
02:24But if anybody can do it, it's that man.
02:26How about this qualifying session so far?
02:28We're fueled by Acme, qualifier number one here in 450 Group A.
02:32What they do is they line them up based off points.
02:34So Hunter Lawrence, Ken Rockson, and Cooper Webb, they're out front early.
02:37And you can almost feel the tension already between these three on track.
02:41Oh, you can, absolutely.
02:43And you have to think, if you're Cooper Webb, he's the only man in this championship battle
02:48that doesn't feel really any pressure at all.
02:51He's not expecting to win the title come Salt Lake City, but he's going to do everything
02:55he can to do that.
02:57It's going to allow him to ride free.
02:59And he hasn't quite been on level speed-wise as Ken Rockson or Hunter Lawrence.
03:04But if the pressure starts to get to those guys a little bit, and they're thinking about
03:08not making mistakes and riding smart, not taking too many chances, Webb could get in there,
03:14scoop a win up, and gain some points, and be right back in it.
03:17Remember how much speed he had last week in Cleveland?
03:20He was fastest in qualifier number one.
03:23That was his first session.
03:24Which is not the norm.
03:25Which is not the norm.
03:26But we noticed it right away.
03:28Lap one or two of qualifying a week ago.
03:30He just looked great.
03:32He looked aggressive.
03:33Hunter Lawrence looking good so far as well.
03:34And I think a big thing I'm looking for today for the 96, we have 11 whoops.
03:40Most of the time, we only have nine.
03:42So a more technical set of whoops that are going to be a big separator tonight.
03:47And everything that I've seen from Hunter Lawrence so far this year, I think with his bike setup,
03:54he has to be pretty perfect in the whoops.
03:57If he messes up a little bit, gets offline, it's easy for that back end to step out on him.
04:02And we've seen a couple big mistakes in the last six weeks or so in that area.
04:06So I'm looking to see if Hunter can find a little bit more comfort in the whoops.
04:11Just a setup that allows him to not have to be so perfect.
04:15Haley, Ken Rockson riding that wave of momentum.
04:17Three wins in the last four races.
04:19That's what it's all about, JB.
04:20It's about winning.
04:22He tells the media post-race last week,
04:24I'm staying in my lane.
04:26I'm not detouring from my mentality.
04:28It's the same thing from here on out, winning.
04:30And he joked with me and he said, you guys might try to get me to change my mentality,
04:34but I'm not referring to.
04:35We're always asking him post-race, as this championship goes on,
04:38are things changing for you mentally?
04:40No, he has stayed in that lane.
04:41And it's just a marvel to us who are observing.
04:44Yeah, thank you, Haley.
04:45Love to see Ken Rockson staying in his lane.
04:47How about this guy a week ago?
04:49Chase Sexton had a pretty good race in Cleveland.
04:51Ran up front.
04:52That second and third main races there in that triple crown.
04:55But Monster Energy, Kawasaki, Chase Sexton back in action, looking pretty good so far.
05:00I like it.
05:00And I think that the thing that is holding Chase back a little bit that I've seen so far
05:06in the last few weeks, he's been riding pretty good.
05:08But I'm looking at that front end of the bike in the middle of the turn,
05:11especially on conditions like this.
05:13These guys, they carried so much momentum and so much lean angle into these turns.
05:18They have to have confidence in the front end of the motorcycle,
05:21again, especially in conditions like this.
05:24So if Chase can clean up the middle of his turn a little bit,
05:27we know he can go out there and win on any given Saturday.
05:29Third so far today, 49.9 for Chase Sexton.
05:32Hunter Lawrence going inside in that option lane.
05:35I like that line, a little creative.
05:37On the inside, if you go table single, that lift is very steep.
05:40You're catching a lot of hang time.
05:42So I like him going table, three in, staying a little bit lower, getting creative.
05:47Goes to second, 49.2, only a tenth of a second off of Ken Rockson.
05:52And no surprise, first, second, and third in the championship.
05:55They're one, two, three right now.
05:57Hunter Lawrence second.
05:58Ken Rockson in first.
05:59And Cooper Webb in third right now with that 49.2.
06:03Look at how close they are.
06:04One-tenth of a second, AC.
06:06This is unbelievable.
06:07And Malcolm Stewart, he's had some speed lately.
06:09Had that injury.
06:10And one, as we all know, but it's starting to come around for Malcolm.
06:14And this is a guy that could get on the podium sometime in these next three races,
06:19especially as this championship battle is kind of transpiring.
06:22And the actual race win itself isn't as much of a goal as the points for the top guys.
06:28Malcolm Stewart could get in there.
06:29And welcome back to the 51 on that Red Bull Troy Lee Designs Ducati ride.
06:34Justin Barsha, so good to see him back on track.
06:40Go back to Chase X on that Monster Energy Kawasaki.
06:43He's sixth right now, 49.9.
06:45The top seven guys hitting with Christian Craig.
06:48They're all in the 49s right now.
06:49Love that line going right.
06:50It's going to open up this left-hand turn,
06:52create a little more corner speed through the middle of this corner right there.
06:55And you saw, because the corners are flat, not a lot of ruts,
06:58you can kind of steer with that back tire a little bit.
07:01But this is where throttle control really comes into play.
07:04You saw in the corner before the whoops there, he broke it loose.
07:07Almost the back end started coming around on him a little bit.
07:10Too much, robbed some momentum.
07:12Those are the little things you have to do right to be on top of the board.
07:16That last turn is going to be interesting once we start racing
07:19as Chase Sexton goes to 449.6.
07:22But if you go wide, then you're able to jump the finish line.
07:24But you leave the inside way open for a guy to go inside of you and make the pass.
07:31Justin Barsha comes over the line.
07:32He's 11th, 50.5.
07:34Once again, welcome back to the 51.
07:36So good to see him back out here racing.
07:38How about Chase Sexton's teammate, Garrett Marchbanks, coming around as of late.
07:4312th right now, 50.5.
07:46Rookie season as a full-time 450 rider in that premier division.
07:50It can be difficult, Adam.
07:51You and I have lived this, where you jump up to the 450 class.
07:54You're racing guys you've looked up to for so long.
07:57It's so competitive.
07:58And when you're not in the top 10, it can be frustrating.
08:00But Garrett's been pretty good as of late getting in the top 10.
08:03I think so much of it is what you said right there, JB.
08:06As Marchbanks gets a little out of control in the moves,
08:09luckily didn't get in, didn't go head on there with Malcolm Stewart.
08:14But as you said, when you get to this class and you're racing all the legends that you've watched growing
08:20up,
08:20there's a part of you that, you know, kind of asking yourself, like, am I really this guy?
08:25Can I really be this good and run with these guys?
08:27And I think I've seen some more confidence from Garrett as of late.
08:31And he's a guy that does have elite speed when he's comfortable and confident.
08:36So we take another look.
08:38See, enters him good.
08:39And right there, he just hits an edge right there.
08:41Rear end steps out a touch.
08:43And that's all it takes.
08:44That's all it takes, folks.
08:45A tiny little mistake.
08:47Not ready for it.
08:48Marchbanks goes down.
08:49And so much of it is just having the confidence in the bike and yourself for when a technical set
08:55of moves,
08:55we get a technical set of moves like we have here in Philadelphia.
08:58The back end is going to step out on you.
09:00You are going to hit some edges.
09:01And it's going to feel a little bit sketchy at times.
09:04But the guys that are the most confident, that have the setup that allows them to be their best,
09:08they're able to adapt when it goes bad.
09:11They'll drop the front end.
09:12They'll pick it back up.
09:13And that's why we always say try to stay as neutral as you can on the bike.
09:17Because if you're a little bit too far back, it's very hard to control where the bike goes.
09:23Hunter Lawrence on a fast one.
09:2449.1.
09:25He's fifth.
09:26But look who is first.
09:27Red Bull KTM's Jorge Prado with a 48.3.
09:30He's had a lot of speed this year.
09:32He's top three sessions.
09:34This would be his fourth.
09:35It stays like it is.
09:36But Hunter Lawrence wants to get in the 48s.
09:39And what have we said about Jorge Prado all year long?
09:43He went from being maybe one of the worst guys in the whoops last year to one of the best,
09:48undoubtedly.
09:49And with a whoop section like we have here, we didn't get his lap on camera.
09:53But I have to imagine he's close to the front in the whoop segment.
09:57It's Hunter Lawrence.
09:58Only a tenth of a second.
09:59Awful Jorge Prado.
10:00He jumps up to second.
10:02Ken Rockson still third.
10:03Cooper Webb and Malcolm Stewart found out your top five.
10:07Prado needs this today.
10:09Get a good start.
10:10Have a great ride after the week ago in Cleveland.
10:13And look, when Ricky Carmichael was up in the booth with us during race day live, all three of us
10:18were talking about Jorge Prado.
10:20It was a great setup for him a week ago.
10:22Just didn't really turn into anything when the gate dropped.
10:24And it was uncharacteristic.
10:26He was up there in the first main event.
10:28And it seemed like halfway through, kind of lost the flow.
10:31And he never really picked it back up again.
10:33In the second race, I believe he was 15th and way off the pace.
10:37So not sure, maybe hurt himself a little bit or just wasn't feeling it.
10:41I think Jorge is a guy, when he's not super comfortable on the bike, he's not going to push too
10:47hard, put himself in position to make more mistakes.
10:50But we know he's got speed, and when he's on and engaged in what he's doing, he's one of the
10:55best in the world.
10:56Love that whoop speed right there.
10:58And hopping off of that second-to-last whoop over the last one to set up for the corner better.
11:03Love his angles to this track right now.
11:05His turn speed is incredible.
11:06Over the tabletop, then he goes triple.
11:09What do you think right there, inside or outside?
11:10Love to put a stopwatch on that.
11:12Looks pretty similar.
11:13I think it all depends on how that outside berm forms up.
11:16But sometimes with those short berms, you only get really one rut.
11:20It can start to get deep with a lot of acceleration bumps.
11:22But for the flow right now, when you're trying to do your fast lap, I love going outside and carrying
11:27that momentum.
11:28Folks, just for reference, that last lap that we got on camera, great job from our camera crew, was a
11:3348.392.
11:35So he's got two 48.3s right now, both of them fastest on track.
11:39And that lap, it looked really repeatable.
11:41He didn't do anything special.
11:43Wasn't riding out of control, so the 26 feeling good here today.
11:46As Ken Roxton comes over the line, last lap around for Ken Roxton, 49.5.
11:51His fastest is a 48.7.
11:53As Hunter, he's on another one.
11:54And I love the way that he was able to come out of that corner on the inside and stand.
11:59Very important to stand so you can keep your momentum through that tabletop and see what it is here.
12:04Able to jump that double from the inside.
12:06And he goes fastest by one-tenth of a second.
12:09Hunter Lawrence, your championship points leader, goes to the top here in Q1 in Philadelphia.
12:15And how about this?
12:16Hunter Lawrence did not top one single session until Daytona.
12:21Already that point in the season.
12:23Since then, five of the last 14.
12:26Oh, that has to be frustrating for Cooper Webb as he makes a big mistake going into that final turn.
12:31Gave up a couple tenths of a second but still goes to fourth with a 48.7.
12:35Cooper Webb, let's see if Hunter maybe, yep, sometimes on the slow lap here.
12:40These guys know as these whoops break down, as Justin Cooper jumps through, you want to have that line in
12:45your back pocket.
12:46Get comfortable with some of those things so you have a plan B when the track gets kind of beat
12:51later in the main event.
12:53Justin Cooper making it look easy jumping through those whoops.
12:56And I can promise you it is not.
12:58Justin Cooper has a lot of momentum right now getting a podium a week ago in Cleveland, getting that second
13:03race victory.
13:05Fifth right now, 48.7.
13:07Can he better his time?
13:08Love how Hunter Lawrence was able to jump that jump from the inside.
13:11Last lap around for Jacob was a 49.1.
13:14It does not match his best of a 48.7.
13:16But that man right there, Hunter Lawrence, going to top Q1 here in Philly.
13:2148.2, one-tenth of a second, better than Red Bull KTM's Jorge Frato, Ken Rocks, and Cooper Webb.
13:28And Justin Cooper, round out your top five.
13:31Stay tuned.
13:32We're going to come back.
13:33Talk to Hunter.
