00:00Hello, welcome to the CV's Flight Channel.
00:30I'm going to start stamping it right here.
00:31A Moto 1 win has put Levi Kitchen in a perfect position to maybe take hold of this early
00:37and show everybody that this year, this title is his.
00:42Well, for Cole Davies, number 37, full transparency, I wasn't sure what we were going to get from
00:48him because we didn't have a lot of information to go on.
00:50We had some really poor motocross results and we had one fantastic win at Bud's Creek.
00:55I feel a bit foolish because after one moto, he's on the podium and he looks like the same
00:59guy that we saw in MonsterJu Supercross.
01:01So no more of that.
01:02I'm going to expect him to firmly be in this fight today and the rest of the other 10 rounds
01:06in this championship.
01:08There are some questions coming in that Joe Shimoto, we knew he was probably on paper,
01:13your favorite, finishing second and then winning that XMX World title.
01:17But the injuries, the rough supercross season, and we know with Joe, he only gets better.
01:22I thought he rode great that first moto, but statistically, he is better in the second moto.
01:27So I suspect that number 30 is going to be up near that front if he gets a great start.
01:31And so many contenders that everyone talked about.
01:34No one talked about this one.
01:35Nick Romano, who was just hoping to stay on with his team as a fill-in rider, was running
01:40in a podium position for a lot of moto one and ended up fifth.
01:43So a solid performance by the rider from New York City.
01:47And let's see if he can continue that.
01:49And if he does, I think you're going to be seeing him racing for this squad throughout
01:52this year and maybe even next.
01:54No pressure, Nick Romano.
01:56As the rider's ready, the mechanics start to back away.
02:00There's Seth Hamaker, who is a runner up in moto one.
02:03That was actually a career best in pro motocross for him.
02:06Remember, both motos count together for the overall.
02:10The fly racing 30-second card is up.
02:12Who will be the first overall winner of the year in the 250 class?
02:16We're going to find out because the rims are up.
02:21Gates down.
02:28Julian Bommere leads him in.
02:30But he goes a little wide, still able to control it.
02:33Michael Moseman there with him at Hamaker.
02:37Great start by Julian.
02:38Rough start that first moto, so better start for him.
02:41We saw him earlier today having some speed.
02:43Been your third fastest qualifier.
02:46Good start for him.
02:47And is that, you said, Michael Moseman?
02:48Yeah.
02:49Good to see him up.
02:50He was on the far inside gate, close to it, so was able to sneak around.
02:54And you got the second moto, first moto, finished second place.
02:57Seth Hamaker up there in a good position.
02:59I don't see Levi Kitchen.
03:00No, that's who I'm looking for.
03:02That has been the problem with Kitchen the last year and a half has been the starts.
03:06Wasn't a great one in moto one, but not bad enough to stop him.
03:09Julian Bommere off to the race.
03:11He's already pulling away from Moseman and Hamaker.
03:14Yeah, this is pretty easy.
03:15When you have that speed, you come out, get the whole shot.
03:17You're young.
03:18You just go for it.
03:19And you realize, man, I'm pulling away from these guys.
03:22But it's a long race.
03:23Want to make sure you have enough for the tank.
03:25And Julian always has had the speed as he's starting to pull away.
03:29Well, he led seven laps in the second moto at this race a year ago, Bommere.
03:34But this is a little different because he's coming back from a devastating back injury.
03:39Looking good as Hamaker attacks Moseman.
03:41Uphill.
03:42Right hand turn coming.
03:43Can he get it?
03:44Yeah, a great pass.
03:45I thought he almost had that pass.
03:47He did now.
03:48Yeah.
03:49Yeah, just a racing incident.
03:51You know, Mike was trying to close that door, but Seth was moving forward.
03:53I thought he had to pass earlier, but tough break for Michael.
03:57Looks like he's got a couple more guys.
03:59Is that Levi?
04:00Yeah.
04:00It is Levi.
04:01Good eyes there, James.
04:02So that's the Moto1 winner.
04:04And the bike, he goes down a second time.
04:07So I'm going to say bye-bye to the overall win for the 47.
04:11Oh, man.
04:11Something's wrong.
04:12Yeah, it looked like his bike spun out of his hand the way he was looking.
04:15But, yeah, this is it.
04:17I mean, if that bike runs, this is that championship.
04:19You've got to get up and move forward.
04:22That front break issues, maybe.
04:24You see the handguard is pointing almost straight down on the right side.
04:29Oh, disaster.
04:30And you're right, it quickly shifted from, you're right, forget the overall.
04:33You've got to salvage points.
04:35You've got to get into the top 20 to score any points at all as Bomer continues to roll.
04:41Yeah, just a great opportunity for Gosling.
04:43Julian had a tough first moto.
04:45You know, finished it, but it wasn't where he wanted to be.
04:49But a great opportunity for the guy in second place, Seth, finishing solid.
04:54Now you've got Julian.
04:55You probably feel like you've been racing.
04:56He might come back towards you, but your biggest competition and your teammate was on the ground.
05:01You've got to make it work.
05:03Well, how about this story?
05:05What a comeback from Julian Bomer broke his back early in the SMX playoffs last year and was told, first
05:12doctor he went to, you're not even going to touch a motorcycle for 12 months, which would have been September
05:17of this year.
05:18Well, here we are in May, and he's not just on a motorcycle.
05:21He is leading the best in the business.
05:25Out of track, he's logged a lot of laps on, but he pushes back against that.
05:29He believes he can get it done anywhere.
05:31Right now, he's getting it done for sure here.
05:33Yeah, he's getting it done.
05:34And the biggest thing, he's always had speed.
05:36It's just really the injuries.
05:37And I said earlier, when that doctor said that, he probably said, have a nice day, because we believe we
05:43can overcome anything.
05:45And with Julian, like, you just stay out here.
05:47You know he's good at this track, and you never know what might happen if you roll this thing off.
05:52Great start, dope.
05:54Kanan Dudley is third.
05:55That's the rookie who is very strong in Moto 1.
05:58Now, the overall results are probably going to get quite jumbled from here.
06:03And some of the good contenders that we saw in Moto 1 who have bad starts.
06:07He's now beginning to move forward.
06:08But at least at the moment, you're looking at a Hamacher-Bomare-Duddy podium.
06:14Yeah, that door is open.
06:16They've all kicked it in.
06:17And look how close it is.
06:19You know, and these rookies right here, they'll only get better.
06:22First Moto, you know, solid finish.
06:25Now in that top three.
06:26And no real pressure behind him.
06:28So if he can just keep it going, this race will open up.
06:31You've got to think about fitness that comes in.
06:33So far, it's pretty good.
06:35Oh, that's Dax Benick.
06:36He was running well, I think right around that fifth-place spot.
06:39And now he is crashed.
06:41Yeah, it looks like it's in the same section that Eli went down.
06:44It's a high-speed section.
06:46And he's off the racetrack.
06:47So either he got a little bit of help or he went in too hot.
06:50Nonetheless, tough break for Daxton.
06:53So here's Dudley, originally of Iowa, then moved to Texas.
06:57And they got picked up by this Monster Star-Yamaha team.
07:01That means you head to the Cairo, Georgia, Tallahassee, Florida state line area.
07:07And he's been doing the work.
07:09And it's paying off right now, running third.
07:11And a lot of hype about his speed.
07:14But we've seen so many young riders who have the speed and aren't translating it to the racetrack.
07:19So far, so good today for Dudley.
07:21Yeah, and all it takes is a race like this.
07:24If I'm going to finish this, he does have the speed.
07:26I mean, he's riding with Hayden Deegan, Justin Cooper, Jordan Aweek.
07:30So he knows that speed.
07:32And I think with these young guys, just that confidence to believe.
07:35Just one finish, it could propel you to a whole different level.
07:39So I'm excited to see if he can hold this thing off.
07:41Well, you mentioned that theory in the 450 class.
07:44You thought how Deegan gets his 450 career started is really going to be a fork in the road.
07:49Same theory here?
07:50Yeah, absolutely.
07:51I mean, I feel like this whole 250 class is a reset for all these guys.
07:55And unfortunately for Levi, it's almost a reset of the past.
07:58You know, you're like, man, I'm so fast.
08:00And then he's going to walk away unless a miracle happens with a day that he should have won overall.
08:05But he ends up off the podium and not even close.
08:08So, but back to Cade, Julian, even Seth Amaker, this could spawn him.
08:15Spawn on to a career and really set them up.
08:19Just one race.
08:20Yep.
08:20And for Bomer, there's certainly no doubts about what he can do.
08:23Coming back from injury, his career best is a fourth.
08:26He leaves the moto right now.
08:28Here's Dudney in third, you see, with the drone count.
08:31And Amaker up ahead would be the overall winner with two two scores.
08:37But only six and a half minutes of this race have taken place yet.
08:44Yeah, it looks really good.
08:46Really clean.
08:48I'm trying to get another view here of that crash with Moseman battling with Hamaker.
08:56Hamaker got aggressive.
08:57Yeah, I mean, I thought Seth had the pass and then he gets in there.
09:01Michael just goes in there.
09:03That berm kind of gets in.
09:04And that line that Seth was on just funnels into Michael.
09:07Just a racing incident.
09:08But unfortunately, Michael, it's a bad situation to be in.
09:13This is another spot right here.
09:15And the big moment of this race, you know, watch Levi Kitchen go in here.
09:20Runs in the back of you.
09:21You see Joe Shimoda.
09:22But for Levi, it just seems like that's the way last year was.
09:26Unfortunate for him, that second moto starts the same way.
09:29But he's got to keep fighting.
09:30It's kind of funny how that worked.
09:31It wasn't hitting Moseman.
09:32He came together with Cody Schock.
09:34But maybe that was because Schock was trying to stop to not hit Moseman.
09:39Then the second time when Kitchen went down was due to Moseman.
09:43Yeah, it's really easy to happen, especially with opening laps.
09:46They're in a pack.
09:48So you imagine yourself in a crowd of people and somebody in the middle of them just stopped.
09:52You run in the back of it.
09:53Easy to happen.
09:54And, you know, whatever the case was, it's really costly for Levi.
09:58But you see that every race, a pileup on those opening laps.
10:03So Dundee rolling right now in third.
10:05JT.
10:06Yeah, this has to feel good for Caden Dundee
10:08because Weege, remember, in Supercross, yes, he was the rookie of the year.
10:13But ironically, let's say he got pulled for a poor performance.
10:17It wasn't actually going the way that Monster Yamaha Star Racing wanted it to.
10:21And they said, hey, let's take some time.
10:23Let's get ready for pro motocross and let's come out swinging there.
10:26And Weege, it's hard to argue with his qualifying performance
10:29and the way he's riding right now that he's not coming out swinging at the opener.
10:33Well, he is.
10:33And, JT, a lot of people are talking about what they saw,
10:36even with his social media clicks of how fast he was going in the preseason.
10:41But you never know if that's going to mean anything come race day.
10:44But he's making it reality now because he could be on the overall podium.
10:49He's right in the fight for it.
10:50But the rider to watch is actually Davies.
10:53Cole Davies has climbed to fifth.
10:54And that would be enough to get him to second overall.
10:58And for Davies, he definitely wants to win this title.
11:02He's showing solid points.
11:04Maybe not his best day.
11:06Davies just putting it together right now.
11:08That's exactly what he did during the Supercross.
11:10And you got to know, like, he didn't race a lot last year.
11:12So he's only going to get better.
11:14And if he brings that confidence from Supercross, it might end well
11:18because he ended up winning a championship pretty easily over there.
11:21Yeah, remember, Davies didn't start the Supercross season on fire.
11:24It took to round three to get a win.
11:26Here he is at the 37 wheel.
11:28I think a lot of the reason that people didn't really want to have him
11:31on their bingo card here for the outdoor season is because last year,
11:36well, it wasn't good.
11:37But at the same time, he didn't really get a chance to show it.
11:40He only was there for a few rounds at the end.
11:42He was coming off injury.
11:44He talked to me yesterday and said how he wasn't prepared
11:46because of that injury, wasn't able to set the bike up,
11:49so they were behind on that.
11:50And he said just, you know, he kind of scrambled his way
11:53through those last rounds there.
11:54And I think a lot of people think, oh, well, in that case,
11:57he's the Supercross guy.
11:58But he reminded me, too, he's from New Zealand.
12:01And he was on motocross just like everybody else kind of growing up.
12:05He said really it was only when Ben Townley sort of took him under his wing
12:08and started teaching him the Supercross skills there.
12:11But that's where he switched over to.
12:12There are very few Supercross tracks in New Zealand near where he lives.
12:16And so he said, I grew up a monokid.
12:18So I think it's kind of narrative that that's not where his skill set is.
12:22He's out to plan for all of those people wrong.
12:25And he's doing a great job here, especially if he hangs on to this overall second.
12:28Yeah, I agree.
12:29And for the people that don't have him on his bingo card,
12:32I'm sorry to say you probably should stop playing bingo
12:34because this guy is that good.
12:36I mean, you can see it.
12:37And really, it just comes down.
12:39These guys get on the track.
12:40They get that momentum.
12:41This is what you're going to get.
12:43And he's trying to challenge Ryder de Francesco for fourth.
12:47There's Francesco on the white rock star energy.
12:50Husqvarna Ryder from California.
12:52Definitely rode this track a lot.
12:54Throwing up from Bakersfield.
12:56And he's held down fourth, giving the running order of that team.
13:00You got Cochran, who had a tough first moto back in this one in 18th.
13:04And then Benek, who had a good moto going and crashed,
13:07officially credited right now in 38th.
13:10So that's the Rockstar Husky team,
13:11which has announced they will not be racing next year as a full factory outfit.
13:17Now, Husky is looking to perhaps supply some of the factory motorcycle components
13:21to another team if there are some takers out there
13:24that want to lease the components.
13:27But the rumor is that some of these young 250 riders will just move over
13:31to a KTM 250 factory team.
13:33So I think that de Francesco and Benek are going to be okay
13:37and have a home next year.
13:38There are some other riders, like I believe Cochran,
13:41who are going to be looking for work.
13:42And it's all about this season to show everybody what they are capable of.
13:47Ryder dee riding pretty well right now in fourth.
13:49Yeah, Ryder dee had a breakout Supercross season, finished third.
13:53But, yeah, it's a hard spot to be in with all these young guys,
13:57even the rookies that, like, there are so many good guys coming up
14:00in the amateur program that hold next and out here
14:03that if you're not performing, it's sad to say,
14:06you'll be looking for a ride no matter how talented you think you are
14:08because the next guy is just as talented and it just continues to go.
14:13Yes, that next program you mentioned where the amateurs get a chance
14:16to race on race day in their own race in the same track.
14:20You're not seeing nearly as many ups and downs.
14:22Almost everybody is either good or great of these young riders coming through.
14:27We don't really see the complete bust, as they would say, in other sports.
14:31And that just makes it more crowded at the top.
14:34No, absolutely. Absolutely.
14:36You'll have the incidents like we all have, but what just Levi, you know, up and downs.
14:41But there's no bust, JT.
14:45James, watching Ryder DeFrancisco going on.
14:47I had an opportunity to grab Max Anstey up here in the Mechanics Tower.
14:50Max, not the opening round you wanted.
14:52We saw that huge crash on race day live this morning.
14:56Pulled off there early in Moto 1.
14:57Was that just due to the soreness you were experiencing in that Moto?
15:01Yeah, I mean, of course, could have been way worse.
15:03I'm still, I'm not broken, but, yeah, I'm pretty sore and beat up.
15:08I couldn't really breathe when I was riding.
15:10I mean, it was the jumbling around, but, hey, it's what it is.
15:14I'm up here studying, watching.
15:15I'll get some physio done this week, and I'll be back next week.
15:19The Alpine Star medical crew, honestly, they did a fantastic job with me,
15:22and they were like, look, get some physio done this week.
15:24You're going to be okay.
15:25But, I mean, yeah, it was just, they can't really drain it
15:28or get any of the blood out of it.
15:29It's just my butt is pretty big at the moment.
15:32So, not ideal, but, hey, it could have been worse.
15:36Still, watching my teammates, they're doing well.
15:38Damien 3rd and Coling in 5th.
15:40The boys are, yeah, cadence up there.
15:42I'll tell you what, these boys are ripping.
15:43So, good to watch, and hopefully I'll be back out there next week fine.
15:47That drill, it'll be okay.
15:48We'll see you at Hangtown.
15:48Let's put a little bit of perspective on what Max is talking about right here.
15:52He had a crash earlier today in practice,
15:55and when he's talking about he's a little sore,
15:57check out to the left of your screen right here.
15:59This is Max Dancy.
16:01It's the instant stop.
16:03So, you want to know how tough these guys are?
16:05He got up, rode off the racetrack, came out, and lined up for the first moto,
16:09and it was a tough day for him, but good to see him happy.
16:14Got another moment.
16:15Yeah.
16:16Looking through traffic a moment ago.
16:19Oh!
16:21And stalled it.
16:22Yeah, that's a tough spot to be at.
16:24We saw Nick Romano do the same thing.
16:27There's a big kicker right there, so they didn't lose too much time,
16:31but that was costly for him.
16:32All right, and now Hamaker has caught Bo Mair in a battle for the lead.
16:37Shimoda is 11th after the mistake,
16:39so a tough one for him after a good first moto,
16:41a tough one for Kitchin who is just trying to get into the top 20.
16:46He's 21st right now, so it could be Hamaker's day,
16:49and he's looking to make it a little better.
16:51As the man in the green, number 10, looks for the moto win.
16:54Yeah, he looks good.
16:55He was able to close that gap, and as I mentioned earlier,
16:57he probably figured Julian would get out there,
17:00but because he hasn't been racing, that race fitness,
17:02especially in the second moto opening race,
17:04he might come back towards him,
17:05and Seth is probably like, okay, so this is what Levi felt like that first moto.
17:10Has the speed closing in on the guy.
17:12It looked great.
17:14Halfway through, reminder to stock up a Monster Energy drink at Stater Brothers.
17:19Which way is this going to go?
17:22Hamaker looking for an opening on Juju.
17:25Yeah, you saw Seth really charge into that section,
17:28and I think he missed his line.
17:29I believe he wanted to get close to him because there was an opportunity to pass.
17:33Another one here.
17:35But Julian did a great job at kind of keeping Seth guessing right there,
17:39but nonetheless, Seth makes that pass.
17:42He's going to close this door, and he's into the lead.
17:45He guessed right.
17:46He guessed it.
17:47Keep him guessing.
17:48Well, how about this?
17:50Hamaker has never won an overall, has never won a moto,
17:52and he might get both today, Will.
17:55A great performance regardless, right, Jason?
17:58But especially considering that we're talking about a guy who's had very little seat time
18:02to set up this bike for pro motocross,
18:04and that was due to the injury that we sort of referenced earlier.
18:08It was a badly torn trapezius.
18:10That's that kind of muscle there in the sort of middle center,
18:13sort of upper side of your back over your shoulder area.
18:15And he said that the rehab that he had to do was basically two weeks long
18:20with Doc G, who we got to speak to earlier there, also Jet Lawrence's physio.
18:25He said he was there every single day, Monday to Friday, for two weeks straight,
18:29go in there in the morning, three hours of therapy, go get some lunch,
18:32come back for two to three more hours of therapy.
18:35And this is away from home in California, so he couldn't even go home further at this point.
18:39So really committed to getting back here to racing fitness.
18:43But when I said to him, kind of, you know, what toll does that take?
18:46He said, it didn't really matter, because at the end of the day,
18:48I need to come here knowing that I have done everything that I possibly could.
18:52For Seth right now, guys, it is paying off big time.
18:57You know what? That's a pretty wild story.
18:59But at the same time, anyone who knows Seth,
19:02the main thing that people say about him is how gritty and how tough he is.
19:06So it's almost, in a way, not a surprise that whatever was thrown at him,
19:10he didn't even notice when he's out of the racetrack.
19:12No, that's why I was just listening, like, finding this out.
19:15You know, Seth does a great job at keeping the main thing the main thing.
19:18He goes out there, focuses on himself, doesn't let all these distractions.
19:21And for most riders, I mean, that would be a gnarly story and an excuse coming in here.
19:27And a legitimate one, but not Seth.
19:29He comes out here and he's fighting.
19:31I think he also probably knew with Julian coming back from injury
19:35that he probably wouldn't fight him that much.
19:38But Seth is here and got his best finish that first moto
19:41and might top that the second one, winning this thing
19:45and winning overall if you hold on.
19:47We just saw Ryder, sorry, as this battle is going on,
19:51you got Romare, Dudney, DeFrancisco, and Davies.
19:55Just saw Dax Benick ride off, had a crash early in this moto.
19:59He is done, at least for this race, but he rode off the motorcycle under his own power.
20:04This bottom box, let's see what Davies can do.
20:06How far forward can he go?
20:08He's already second overall, but championship points still on the line with each position.
20:13You got to give a shout-out to Cade in third place.
20:16These guys have been here for a few laps now.
20:19And as much as we talk about the Supercross champ and Cole Davies,
20:24he hasn't been able to close the gap on him.
20:26So, and Ryder D is trying to put that pressure.
20:27So, again, as I said, as these laps goes on, just a little bit of belief in these guys.
20:32You'll get a finish like if Cade can hold on.
20:35You'll get rods like this, and then it'll only get better.
20:38Next thing you know, he'll be battling up there with Seth Handmaker for the lead.
20:42And that's a good move for Dudney because the Supercross campaign, as JT mentioned,
20:46did not go as expected.
20:47Davies makes a mistake.
20:49Yeah, loses front end and buries it.
20:51Luckily, he's got a little bit of time.
20:53Now maybe, I think he was getting to the point where I believe he was faster than Ryder D,
20:57but he was so close, he wasn't able to ride his normal line.
21:00So, we'll see if he has that pace, if he can close back up with about 10 minutes left.
21:05Still fighting for that podium position.
21:08You can see how the overall podium would turn out on the bottom left of the street.
21:12It'd be Handmaker, Davies, and Dudney, top three.
21:17Bomero would be fourth overall.
21:19Romano would be fifth.
21:20Romano's best in his career overall is a seventh.
21:23So, it's still a great race day for the 141, running sixth right now.
21:27We'll see if Davies can reset the teenager out of New Zealand.
21:31Talk to his dad this morning.
21:33And really echoing what Will had said in her report, they are confident that they can do this in motocross
21:40just the same as Supercross.
21:42And what he said is, if you really look at the Supercross races where he's really excelled,
21:46the nastier, the more rutted the track is, the better Cole Navy has done.
21:51So, his dad, Wayne, kind of thought this track would be a weakness.
21:54He thinks as we go east, even to Colorado, where that track's pretty rutted, he thinks Cole will get even
21:59better.
21:59Yeah, I mean, he will, but he was right.
22:03I mean, Cole wasn't as good, to me, in my honest opinion, in some of those nasty spot tracks like
22:08Daytona.
22:09He was really rushing it, but what he did was go to work.
22:12And we talked about during the Supercross, like his interest rate was really low.
22:16He worked on that, and as he did, you could see that growth during the Supercross season to where he
22:21was untouchable.
22:21Nobody in that field was even close to him.
22:23So, he will get better.
22:25I think it's more about the hard work of Cole Davies rather than just the track conditions.
22:29He adapts, and he doesn't usually make the same mistake over and over, and he definitely won't stay in the
22:35same spot.
22:35He's moving forward.
22:39Yeah, I think he's shown enough here to everyone realize, all right, he's going to be in it in motocross
22:44just like he is in Supercross.
22:46And what's wild about this right now is that it would be the first overall podium for all three riders,
22:53Hamaker, Davies, and Dundee.
22:56And to get back to what I was saying, now, Dundee, you mentioned how fleeting that confidence can be after
23:01those tough Supercross races.
23:03And all be gone, Dundee can hold on for a podium.
23:06Yeah, it will be.
23:08You know, it's maybe not like the pro circuit where you solidify a ride because, you know, Bobby has a
23:13lot of guys up there looking for that opportunity.
23:14But for him, you know, I believe it's a lot.
23:18You see just these little gains as Cole makes another mistake.
23:22It doesn't take much because these guys are so close to where if he finishes this thing off, don't be
23:28surprised a week or two that we're talking about Kate Duggan winning his first ever race.
23:32That's how good and close these guys are.
23:34They just got to believe, and this moto might be that step towards that.
23:40Amazing how quickly things can flip in this game when you start talking confidence and momentum.
23:46Davies Mechanic likes what he sees.
23:48Third in the moto.
23:49Second overall.
23:50Seth Hamaker tried to bring his first win in pro motocross home.
23:54And by the way, as you watch this battle, another one of the young riders on Monster Yamaha Star Racing,
24:00Kate Meneer,
24:01battling with the 43 of Lux Turner, who's been great today.
24:04On the Toyota Redlands Bar-X Yamaha.
24:07By the way, I just want to add that Hamaker is the only non-Yamaha rider to win this year.
24:11He won Daytona.
24:12Yamaha won every other Supercross.
24:14Now he's looking to win in motocross.
24:15Look at Lux turning up the heat.
24:18Turned out for what?
24:19He's like, my sister's going to be there in a couple weeks as well.
24:22I've got to show up.
24:22But, you know, this battle right here, I mean, Lux wants that ride that Kate's on.
24:27So there's a lot of pride for these guys.
24:30And I'm sure for, you know, Kate's race, he's starting to get to the second moto.
24:35He's starting to make a few mistakes.
24:36But still top 10, great, great finish if you can hold on, JT.
24:40Yeah, I think, Leach, remember Lux Turner telling us that story about how, you know,
24:44before things turned for him and he really started to make progress, he was having to race part-time.
24:50He'd have to go home, work a part-time job just to make enough money to go chase his dream,
24:56go back to riding for a couple weeks, and then rinse and repeat that cycle over and over and over.
25:01And you watch him now.
25:03He was really turning the corner at Supercross, becoming a top 10, top 5 guy.
25:07Now he's trying to challenge and move towards the top 5 at pro motocross.
25:11It's just a remarkable story of a guy that wasn't even good enough in this sport to be doing it
25:16full-time.
25:17Look at him now.
25:18Yeah, and as we watch Shimoda challenging Muneer, JT, also, this is no disrespect to that Bar-X Yamaha team,
25:24but in pro motocross, having the factory full engine is such a huge advantage.
25:29So when you see Turner well up in the top 10, you know that guy can ride.
25:34There's a great motorcycle, I'm sure, under him, but there are tricks that the top teams have,
25:39and he's taking it right to all those guys.
25:42Shimoda looking to take it to Muneer now.
25:44Yeah, Joe's doing what he did that first moto.
25:46Just unfortunate for him, that mistake cost him earlier, but that was a great pass.
25:51He can hold on to it.
25:52He'll be on the outside, so he should have the momentum to get through his corner pretty clean as he
25:56does.
25:57But, yeah, you know, going back to the Yamaha, the better you do, the more parts you get from factory
26:03Yamaha.
26:04And in this class, those little bit of parts, you see, you notice that difference on the racetrack.
26:09So the team is getting better, the rotter's getting better, and, yeah, great start for him.
26:15And now it's Romano battling.
26:17Turner's not settling.
26:19He's just moving forward.
26:20He gets Muneer, and now he's going after Romano.
26:23He hits the break square bump right here.
26:25There you go.
26:26Cut him off.
26:26Cut him off.
26:27There you go.
26:27Nice pass.
26:29You can see that one coming.
26:30Nick got a little bit of wide.
26:31Lux since that.
26:32That was a pass to quarter pass.
26:33And, yeah, continue moving his way forward.
26:37He's got Chance Hymus.
26:38You had the in-ear communication one of them.
26:40I'm talking to him right there.
26:42Yeah.
26:42Get the sense out here.
26:44And there's Hymus.
26:46Have not seen much of him today.
26:47He's up ahead in sixth.
26:49But, look, you can't tell the story both ways.
26:52With Hymus, the story has been you've just got to get points, be consistent, be there.
26:56So he's actually doing that today.
26:58So even though it's not a podium or a race win, is that all right for the 29?
27:02I don't know.
27:03Yeah, I don't know.
27:05This is a battle for third right here.
27:07Router D is closing in.
27:09I don't – you can't – all these results aren't equal.
27:12Okay.
27:12And I think Chance, yes, consistency, health is the number one.
27:17But he's been kind of lost in the mix.
27:19You know, where he kind of started, he's just been here.
27:21But there's really nothing that I believe, from what I've seen, that he can pull out
27:25as this battle is getting really good here, that he can pull out and be like,
27:28yeah, I have the speed or I have this.
27:31I just had this happen, bad start.
27:33He's just been kind of stuck there.
27:34So, you know, we'll see.
27:36But he's got to get through it, and we'll see what happens next week after this one.
27:40JT.
27:41And we just – you remember at the top of the show we were talking about the parody in this
27:44class
27:45and the inconsistency in years past that allowed guys like Hayden Deegan and Joe Shimoda
27:49to build these gigantic gaps over everyone else?
27:52Well, look at the way it's shaping up just here today.
27:55Now, Seth Handmaker, now he's doing his thing.
27:5747 points, that's a really respectable score.
28:00That's the type of score the championships are made of.
28:02But look behind him.
28:03It's already a 10-point gap to a guy like Cole Davies.
28:07And you think about the other people that we consider contenders, the Joshimodas, the Levi Kitchens.
28:14It's not that they're necessarily riding poorly, but they're not having a great points day.
28:18So is this going to be the norm?
28:20Is Seth Handmaker going to be super consistent, build up this huge lead,
28:23or is it going to be this yo-yo effect where a lot of 30-point days and who can
28:28manage the best of those?
28:29It still really feels like 2025 and prior where inconsistency will reign.
28:35Yeah, I agree with that.
28:37Jason, yeah.
28:38Go ahead.
28:39No, I agree with that.
28:40You know, and especially for Levi's.
28:43These guys are still battling right here.
28:45It reminds you of what didn't happen in his whole career pretty much, the last couple of years.
28:49So for him, you know, he talked about on the podium consistency.
28:54You know, I want to work on stars.
28:55Don't worry about getting the whole shot.
28:56Just be up there.
28:57Well, he did get the best star.
28:59He goes down in the first lap, and now he's battling for 16th place,
29:02and his teammates running away.
29:04And as JT mentioned, that points gap.
29:06So it's going to be difficult for him, especially the guy that doesn't nail his stars
29:10as Ryder D turns the scrub.
29:13He was hustling to get Dougie there, and he finally got it.
29:15Yeah, you've got a sense here, like Ryder D knows, like,
29:18if I can get him now, put in a sprint,
29:20then I pretty much have this third place wrapped up in his moto
29:24because Cade's going to start just trying to hold on, top five, finish for him.
29:28It would be a great day.
29:29All these riders, they know their competition and probably what their mindset is.
29:33So great ride by both these guys.
29:36DeFrancisco, third in the moto.
29:38That would be a career best for him.
29:40I feel like it's a day where we're constantly mentioning career best.
29:44Maybe that is the effect of Deegan moving out of the class.
29:49DeFrancisco would, after the tough first moto, it might have been.
29:52He was up there on the first lap of the first moto,
29:55then crashed with all the way back to the last.
29:57Was just able to get it inside the points.
30:00A good bounce back for him here.
30:0319th in moto one and third in moto two.
30:06Yeah, I'm sure he came in this season, you know, whether he said it out in publicly.
30:10But inside, he probably felt like just a great opportunity for him,
30:13especially off of that Supercross season.
30:15And I know the results haven't been there, but we're stubborn.
30:19You know, he's always had speed.
30:21And to have that opportunity and know who you're going to race against,
30:24he's beat everybody in this field straight up and down.
30:27So it's not like he's afraid of anybody.
30:30Opportunity might be now.
30:31That first moto was tough for him, but great bounce back for him.
30:34Set him up soon.
30:36We have found Levi Kitchen.
30:38He's into the point.
30:3916th right now.
30:40He's got Landon Gordon right in front of him.
30:43And every position he can make from here on out would be one championship point to the good.
30:47He would be down after a day where he was the fastest rider, I would think.
30:52Be down 15 points on Handmaker if it ends like this.
30:55Fifth overall.
30:56Let's see if he can move up a bit.
30:57Yeah, this is what I want to see from Levi.
31:00Just as I mentioned that first moto with Chance Hyman, that grit.
31:03I want to see him get a bad start.
31:05You know, things aren't working out.
31:06And just fight your way up.
31:07You know, you look at this motorcycle.
31:09It's bent, you know, but he's out there fighting.
31:11And if he can somewhere get up, maybe close to the top 10 or just top 15,
31:16it would be a disappointing day for him.
31:18But I think overall it would be good for him in the championship, JT.
31:21Yeah, and you see that rider there, 872.
31:24That's Matisse Bois-Romey.
31:25Now, he's an MXGP regular.
31:27He's actually a French national champion as well.
31:30But he's over here kind of making a wild card appearance.
31:33We'll see how many races he ends up at this summer.
31:35But this is a rider who has a lot of experience.
31:37He was actually on the Factory Kawasaki MXGP team at one time.
31:41So it's, you know, interesting to see him up here battling with the likes of Bland and Gordon.
31:45Guys that are much, much younger than him.
31:47He has a ton of experience.
31:48But, yeah, just another aspect of this, you know, SMX World Championship we always talk about.
31:54Yeah, when I saw 27 years old on the graphic there, I would have thought he was north of 30.
31:59Because it does feel like he's been racing overseas for a long, long time.
32:03Good to see him out here and representing well on the KTM.
32:07Now, if this ends like this and Hamaker wins the race, he'll also be the points leader.
32:12And I cannot believe this one.
32:14That team has not led the points since Adam C. and Cerullo won the title in 2019.
32:20Oh, what's happening here?
32:22Lux Turner just not giving up.
32:25He has now caught Cole Davies for six.
32:28This guy doesn't get tired.
32:30Yeah, no, Lux doesn't.
32:32Yeah, that is a strange stat.
32:33But I guess he's been having, you know, Mitch, he's been having a hard time finding his riders.
32:37So, you know, he finds himself up in the lead.
32:40But we found this one.
32:41We found this one out front.
32:42But, yeah, Lux Turner, you can see it coming in his body language compared to Cole Davies.
32:48Lux is on the move.
32:49Cole seems like he's struggling with two laps to go.
32:51But this guy isn't.
32:53No way.
32:56I think he just needed to show kind of like a Davies light that he can do it in motocross.
33:01He hasn't had disastrous results in motocross, but no podiums.
33:04A couple of fourths for Hamaker last year.
33:08Kitchen.
33:09Now, wait a minute.
33:11He is getting close to the podium here.
33:13He's made a couple moves.
33:14Now he's going after Derek Kelly on the MX6 Kawasaki.
33:18And look at the podium map there.
33:20He is one point off of Dudney.
33:24He just made up that point.
33:25They'd be tied.
33:26Now, Dudney has the tiebreaker with the better second moto.
33:29Kitchen needs one more spot.
33:31And he will somehow have salvaged third overall.
33:35This is it.
33:36You know, he's got two laps.
33:37His mechanic is going to tell him.
33:39And he's got what?
33:40Let me see.
33:41This is my strongest suit.
33:43About six seconds to bowl it, it seems like, in front of him.
33:47Good job.
33:47This is chin.
33:48Yeah, I made it.
33:49You did it.
33:50Five out of four people, baby.
33:53Six seconds is going to be a lot to make up in two laps.
33:56But what a dig from Kitchen.
33:59Get some clean laps.
34:01And, yeah, I think this is a very impressive ride by him.
34:05This, again, what we want to see.
34:06It'd be disappointing.
34:07But with a bit motorcycle and how the day was, great start.
34:13Now, what could also happen is, Hymus, we said how quiet he is.
34:17He's at the bottom of the screen here on the Honda HRC number 29.
34:21If he passes Dudney, that would also give the podium to Kitchen.
34:25Yeah, it's actually a great moto by chance.
34:28He made a lot of passes.
34:29They both of those guys got around, well, they're ahead of Cole Davies.
34:32So if he can get him, as I was saying, that championship mentality and just that grip,
34:38just that chance, Hymus, and it'll go a long ways for him if he can get around Dudney right here.
34:44Now, we're saying it's going to be tough for Kitchen to make up six seconds in two laps.
34:49But guess what?
34:49He just went three seconds faster than Max Follin the last time around.
34:53So if he can replicate that and make the pass, he could salvage the podium.
34:57I don't know if Habaker cares about any of this.
35:00He's headed to the win.
35:01And I don't know if Hymus really cares that he's affecting the podium.
35:06He's just riding for himself here.
35:08Yeah, all these battles right here is about your mindset going into next week and the next weekend.
35:13So these are the little battles.
35:15So it might not be a win, but this could be a win for them to all be like,
35:18oh, we're close, good second rod, good second moto.
35:22Just build, work on the bike and then come out next week.
35:27Let's see what they're saying to the Kawasaki pit.
35:29Will?
35:29I was curious.
35:30I just came over here to his mechanic just to see what they were writing there,
35:33to let him know, to see how away Levi was that he was that close to that third spot.
35:38And he's just written on the pit board that he had one spot for third.
35:41So they want him to keep pushing, no doubt.
35:43Levi's putting the work in anyway, but they just want to let him know where he's at.
35:46I'm just going to tell everybody why.
35:48The teams pay bonuses for podiums.
35:50Generally around, say, the $20,000 mark for a third overall in the 250 class, give or take.
35:56So that's the reason to go for it.
35:58In the next minute to two, he can make himself 20 grand if he can dig deep.
36:05And there's that stat I was talking about.
36:08The last time this team, one of the best ever in the history of the sport, has led the points
36:13in this class was 2019 when our man, Adam C. Cirulo, won the opener, led the points all year, won
36:21the title.
36:22Seth Hamaker is looking to carry the red plate into round two and hanged out.
36:26Yeah, what a great ride.
36:28I mean, overall, the whole Pro Circuit squad has been awesome today.
36:32I mean, their bikes look good.
36:33Levi looked great earlier that first motor ride.
36:36Great to Sekumoto.
36:37Seth has gotten better as well.
36:39Nick Morano, like, I mean, it looks good.
36:41So just hope they can continue this thing.
36:44But so proud of Seth and happy for him.
36:47This guy is a beast, man.
36:49I've seen him take some hits.
36:51And he keeps fighting just like this battle for fifth place.
36:54You think Chance knows that this is possibly a podium as well?
36:57I don't think he cares.
36:58He's doing the best he can.
37:00And you already know what that's going to say.
37:02He's going to take the positive.
37:03Forget the first 48 minutes he rode today.
37:07He's going to be thinking about these last couple laps where he's looking a lot better.
37:10Oh, he changed my mind.
37:12He totally.
37:13I picked up on that.
37:14All of a sudden, you're like, eh, not anymore.
37:17Yeah, I'm very fickle.
37:18Chance, this is great.
37:19This is what I needed to get out of here.
37:21Exactly.
37:21We finally saw it.
37:23And just as he got close to Dundee, a couple of mistakes, Dundee pulls it back out.
37:28It's the last lap, podium on the line.
37:30The win is already decided.
37:31It's going to be Seth Hamaker, the only non-Yamaha rider to win in Supercross.
37:36He's going to do it again in motocross.
37:38Congratulations, Seth Hamaker.
37:40You're a winner outdoors.
37:42Great job, Seth.
37:44And a great job by Julian Vermeer.
37:46Only five seconds behind him.
37:48Great second moto.
37:50Coming off injury.
37:51You can see how much that means for Seth.
37:54We're waiting.
37:55Here's Joe battling.
37:57The indefatigable Lux Turner right to the line.
38:02Turner is sixth on the Bar-X Yamaha.
38:05What a wrong...
38:06What a wrong...
